We celebrated our marriage with friends and family at Makray Memorial Golf Club on October 1, 2022 and it was an absolute dream! Our theme was “Autumn in the Mountains;” commemorating where my husband and I met, lived, adventured, and fell in love out West in Colorado. I have included a detailed venue review below, but if you are looking for the condensed version…I highly, highly, highly recommend this amazing venue with its impeccable service, exquisite food, gorgeous surroundings, and the creation of memories that will last a lifetime.
Venue Team
The dynamic duo of Leeza and Laurie (L&L) were the best to work with – they were exceptionally professional yet easygoing and went so above and beyond their titles of Catering Sales Manager and Manager of Banquet Sales, respectively. From the initial tour in early 2021 all the way through our last dance on 10.1.22, L&L treated my family and I with respect, sincerity, humor (lots of perfectly timed “dad” jokes), and transparency. I worked directly with the duo on each aspect and detail in the planning process from inception to execution. I live out of state, so communication was very important to me when selecting a venue, and L&L were always available with timely emails and phone calls. They were our contacts throughout the entire experience, including our “I Do” day. We did not hire an external wedding coordinator or day-of coordinator as L&L superbly provide that service as well (included in the “package”). I cannot write enough accolades to express how seamless and stress-free L&L made our entire experience…seriously the BEST duo to work with and I am so grateful they were the two on this wedding planning journey with me!
Onto the banquet staff. Two words…absolute pros! The entire team was efficient, skilled, and kind. This well-functioning and professional team had zero issues with service and many of my guests commented on how they felt so well taken care of by the team, especially my guests with special dietary needs. The bartenders were swift and friendly, and my guests experienced little to no wait times for drinks. We even had a guest unknowingly leave her phone on the balcony at the end of the night, and a banquet staff member found it and ran it outside to her before she left. The entire team went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful experience.
Venue
I would describe Makray as the perfect blend of mini castle and elegant ski chalet. From the stunning stone vine-covered exterior, to the classic and cozy interior with modern upgrades, this venue is an absolute dream for many different aesthetics. The comprehensive venue package included the gorgeous ballroom with newly renovated balcony, refinished dance floor (which is huge and a beautiful dark stained wood), two built in bar stations with access via ballroom and pre-function space, round and rectangular tables, banquet chairs (can upgrade for Chivari however the “in-house” chairs were much nicer than other venues I toured, did not look like office chairs, were comfortable, and the dark green padding even blended nicely with my color palette), conveniently located bridal suite, elegant grand stairway, intimate pre-function space with beautiful wood floors at the top of the stairway featuring a fireplace and piano nook, elevator, plenty of parking, and so much more!
There were 2 outdoor ceremony sites to choose from, both offering stunning and magazine-worthy backdrops. We elected for the “Lake Site”, and it did not disappoint. The more intimate of the 2 sites, it was a bit of a longer stroll from the building, however the venue provided a golf cart/driver to assist guests if needed (this came in handy with elderly attendees). The grounds were immaculate and well-maintained, and the backdrop to our ceremony included the lake and lovely tall rye grass (perfect for our fall themed wedding). Included in our package was a guided golf cart tour to the wooden bridge on the course for photos with our entire wedding party.
Food and Drink
My husband and I are total foodies, so this was an important consideration for our venue selection. Makray has amazing food and drink options. Chef John Hennessey elevates the typical wedding food offerings and provides innovative elements to each dish. This humble and talented Chef has many career accolades and experiences, my favorite being his time spent as team chef for the Chicago Cubs!
Our first experience with the cuisine was at our tasting which included SO MUCH FOOD. The tasting was not a separate cost as it was all included in our package, and we were able to adequately taste all options we considered for our day. My parents, sister and bridesmaid accompanied my husband and I, and the entire experience lasted a few hours. We never felt rushed by Leeza or Chef, and they paired the tasting with marking items off the planning checklist such as linens, timeline, etc. We had several options to try for each course which included a soup, salad, and entrée. Our cake was also included in the package; however, it was provided through Lovin Oven Bakery, a local establishment that provided a separate tasting experience.
Each course at Makray was customizable, for example Chef and Leeza suggested an off-menu pomegranate vinaigrette for our salad instead of the raspberry vinaigrette to better harmonize with our overall menu. For our main entrée, we could select the combination of meat, starch, vegetable, and sauce that we wanted, and after tasting the wide-variety of options, we elected for the chicken piccata with angel hair pasta (with Romano cheese, fresh basil, and oregano), honey dill carrots (which were an off-menu creation of Chef’s that he came up with the day before our tasting!), and lemon caper butter sauce. This paired exceptionally with our tomato bisque soup and club house salad of field greens, pomegranate vinaigrette, candied walnuts, Gorgonzola cheese, and sliced apples.
We also elected to upgrade our package to include passed hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour, a few reception surprise snacks, and a late-night bites. Everything was excellent and our guests raved that the food quality was wonderful!

My husband and I had our wedding reception here on 4/18/26 and we are still getting compliments on how amazing the wedding day was! This would not have been possible without the wonderful team at Makray. Laurie, Leeza and Stacie were great to work with from the first tour of the facility, to organizing the food tasting, answering all of my questions, and all the work that went into the wedding day itself. They made every step of the way very easy. I would definitely recommend them. Makray is the perfect location and really offers so much! -

BEST DAY OF MY LIFE! Our wedding at Makray on 5/30/26 was an absolute dream! I can’t believe it actually happened and was such a perfect day! The Ivy on the building was so lush, I cannot wait to get back our professional pictures, it does not look like you are in Barrington, IL rather it looks more like a mansion in Scottland. We had our ceremony and reception at Makray which was the move! The wedding coordinators, Chef John and all the staff at Makray are phenomenal, very kind, and very easy to communicate with during your wedding planning process answering all your questions along the way, offering advice and making the day itself flow seamlessly. So many of our guests came up to me and said this was the BEST wedding the have ever been to! If you are a foodie like my husband and I are you will die for their menu and enjoy the tasting dinner with 6 guests so much! Also their partnering bakery offers the most beautiful cake and the raspberry buttercream white wedding cake we had tasted HEAVENLY - and I am not really a cake kind of girl. The venue also gives you a list of their recommended vendors which also made the planning process much easier. CANNOT RECOMMEND MAKRAY ENOUGH! We had our daughter's wedding reception at Makray Golf Club in Barrington. Laurie was amazing to work with and they really have everything down to a science in terms of set up, the delicious meals prepared by their in house chef and guiding all the details so the evening flowed perfectly. I highly recommend anyone looking for a wedding venue to check them out. We had an excellent experience. -

Finding Makray Memorial Golf Course was the answer to our prayers. After getting engaged in the South, we dreamed of a "Lowcountry Elegance" wedding, complete with a Southern-inspired menu and lush, verdant surroundings. From the moment we approached the property and saw the beautifully manicured greens against the ivy-clad, English cottage-style architecture, we knew we had found a special place.
The interior is equally breathtaking; the dark wood accents and floor-to-ceiling ballroom windows bring the outside in, perfectly echoing the atmosphere of Palmetto Bluff - the place we were engaged. It provided a rare sense of intimacy for our 150 guests while maintaining a grand, storybook feel.
As luxury hospitality professionals ourselves, we have exceptionally high standards for service and organization. The "Dream Team"—Laurie, Leeza, Stacie, and Chef John—exceeded every one of them. They operate with a "family-feel" synergy, providing impeccable follow-through and seamless communication that is hard to find. They didn't just listen to our vision; they embraced it. Chef John even curated a bespoke Southern menu just for us, hitting every mark from the crab cakes to the jalapeño cornbread. (A testament to his talent: our Southern Georgia Peach Caprese salad even made it to the official menu at the Oak Terrace Grill—it is a must-try!)
Planning a wedding is inherently stressful, but working with a team this organized and genuinely kind gave us a profound sense of relief. We knew that every detail was being handled with extreme care and professional precision.
While there are many beautiful venues to choose from, it is the people who set Makray apart. If you want a seamless planning experience, world-class cuisine, and a team that treats your wedding as if it were their own, choose Makray. You will leave with a thousand priceless memories and a full and happy heart. -

Best team!
From start to finish, our experience with this venue was exceptional. Planning our wedding from out of state should have been more stressful, but the entire team made it surprisingly easy. Communication was seamless, and they were always extremely responsive over email, which gave us so much peace of mind throughout the planning process. A special shoutout to Leeza, who was an absolute joy to work with. She was so cheerful, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our day perfect. Her customer service and attention to detail were top-notch.
One thing to highlight that was incredibly personal and thoughtful was the tasting day. The food was outstanding and exceeded our expectations. We love Chef John!
On the wedding day, the staff was so professional, kind, and everything ran on time to the minute. Everyone enjoyed the night and guests were able to enjoy themselves, which meant a lot to us. We are so grateful we chose to have our wedding at Makray. We couldn’t recommend this team, and venue more. A very unforgettable day. -

Planning a wedding requires great attention to detail and a lengthy and continuous process of paying attention to infinite details. The team of Laurie, Leeza and Chef Hennessy were tremendous partners during this process, and we cannot thank them enough for all their help and support. They were all OUTSTANDING!
The wedding venue (lawn) and the reception area are very convenient and all of our guests had a great experience. Meal presentation and quality were exceptional and the overall experience was great. We highly recommend the dessert and Ice Cream option!

A Dream Wedding
I cannot say enough incredible things about this venue. From day one, Stacie Leeza and Laurie tackle each and every part of the planning like you are the only couple on their radar. I have never felt so special.
My highlights:
1) simply the venue - absolutely stunning. European castle vibes.
2) the team - every single thing we asked for, these angels figured it out. From flipping the ceremony backdrop to driving a vintage car on the the golf cart path to coordinating a 12 person band.. they made every single dream come true.
3) the planning. The team at Makray keeps you on task and answer your anxious emails within a day every time.
4) The pricing package was incredibly straight forward. Other venues we toured required extensive excel spreadsheeting to get to a bottom line. Makray gives you a very straightforward price including champagne toast, wine, napkins, literally everything.
5) THE FOOD. I can’t believe this is 5 on the list. Chef John and his team are incredible. We received glowing reviews.. and our Italian families are very hard to please. The steak simply cut with a butter knife. Perfectly medium rare. People loved the chicken.
Cons:
1) The bridal suite is too small to get ready in. We got ready at the hotel, but it was a bit clunky.
2) if you have a band, you’ll likely have to put the bridal table on the dance floor. They cleaned it up without me even noticing, but you can’t keep bridal party stuff on the table in that case. N/A for DJ weddings
If you are getting married at Makray, please invite me to your wedding so I can experience this iconic place as a guest. I beg you. -

I cannot say enough amazing things about the team here at Makray! From the moment I saw Makray and met Leeza, I knew that this venue is where I wanted to get married. Not only is the venue absolutely stunning, Leeza had amazing communication throughout the entire process, was accommodating with all of our requests, and helped make my wedding day a literal dream! When we dropped off our deposit, my husband and I sat in the office with Leeza & Laurie for over an hour and got to know one another better. It truly showed us how much they cared about getting to know us, how passionate they are about their jobs, and how committed they were to giving us the best wedding day possible. While wedding planning can be overwhelming and stressful, Leeza + her team made it such a fun and enjoyable experience. We received so many compliments about how great the food was, how beautiful the venue was, and how amazing the guest experience was. I cannot say THANK YOU enough to the team here, they are simply just the best!! -

Cannot recommend enough!
We were so lucky to be able to celebrate our wedding reception at Makray. From the very beginning, event coordinators Laurie and Leeza impressed us with their kindness, professionalism, and attention to detail. We chose Makray over other available venues because everyone at Makray was so kind, and it was reassuring to feel that they were personally invested in making our wedding day go well and our guests feel comfortable. Their team went above and beyond to make sure everything came together, working seamlessly with our other vendors to keep the day running smoothly. They were also so easy to work with in the months leading up to the big day.
Chef John was especially kind as well, and the food was plentiful, beautifully presented, and delicious. We had several guests with dietary restrictions and allergies, and the staff made sure everyone was accommodated without a single worry on our end. Our guests commented not only on enjoying the food, but also on how well cared for they felt throughout the evening.
Makray was also a beautiful backdrop for our wedding photos, and staff was so kind when taking us and our photographer out on the course for photos. We are so grateful to the entire team for making our wedding day so memorable and for creating such a wonderful experience for us and our guests! Highly highly recommend choosing Makray for your wedding! We have already recommended it to other couples! -

Absolute gem!
We had an absolutely wonderful experience hosting our wedding at Makray Golf Club! The venue itself is stunning, with beautiful views that created the perfect backdrop for our special day. The best!
Makray Memorial Golf Club is absolutely stunning! We couldn’t have picked a better venue to celebrate our special day. The wedding coordinators - Leeza, Laurie and Stacie were the BEST. They were so easy to work with, always available, and happy to walk us through any detail, no matter how big or small. The chef is AMAZING as well. Our guests raved about how delicious the food was! We still enjoy coming back to the venue for dinner dates. If you are looking for somewhere reliable with exceptional service this is your place!! I cannot recommend this venue, and all of it’s staff, enough. I wish we could host more events there! We had our wedding at Makray and it was an absolute dream. Laurie and Leeza made a great team and helped everything to run smoothly. I was planning a wedding all the way from San Diego and didn't even have to hire a separate coordinator. They were both punctual, organized, positive, friendly and everything you would want in a vendor for your wedding. The whole process was so much fun. The food was amazing and the space was gorgeous. Makray makes a spring/winter (cold) wedding in Illinois look so beautiful. My photos turned out great. I highly recommend Makray. Amazing team and venue. -

We are beyond thankful to Makray and their staff for holding our wedding reception 5/30/21! Everything was a dream and so beautiful!! We booked our wedding in 2019 with plans to have it in 2020, and chose to move it due to Covid. Laurie and Leeza were so communicative and understanding every step of the way. Their team truly has the utmost attention to detail and went above and beyond to make our wedding day absolutely perfect. We couldn't have asked for better partners in planning our wedding or a more gorgerous venue! We'll forever recommend them for all celebrations to come! -

I hired this venue for my son's brunch reception which was supposed to take place in June of 2020. Because of Covid it was first moved to December of 2020 and then rescheduled for June 26, 2021. EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING was perfect! The food was delicious: We had the full breakfast buffet, plus one chicken dish and one beef dish and an omelet station. The sweets for the sweet table were all incredible and bountiful. I cannot say enough about the support of the entire staff there, starting with Audrea who I worked with from the beginning. She was supportive, helpful, informative and there for me not matter what I threw at her last minute, including seating changes as well as asking for valet service the day before the ceremony (which she did get!) The prices she quoted were accurate, no hidden surprises at the end and I thought very reasonable. The rest of the staff who helped on the day of the event and the night before (Audrea was there the entire time, too) were also so helpful, starting with Laurie and Leeza, Maria, and all the wait staff, who even helped me set up some of my decorations in the morning. The room looked beautiful! I would highly recommend this venue for a wedding, shower, or any other occasion. -

The Wedding of Our Dreams!
I always wanted to get married at a beautiful venue with beautiful scenery and Makray Memorial Golf Club exceeded our expectations. Laurie and Leeza are truly an incredibly duo. They were so accommodating and understanding with planning a wedding during COVID. When we had to cancel the first time we met with them and they laid out all the options for us. We decided to just do a smaller ceremony only at Makray and the views were just incredible even on a very stormy day! Laurie and Leeza answered every question we asked them and were just the best to be around. They honestly are invested in their careers and want their customers happy. Without them our beautiful wedding wouldn't have been possible. We are so honored to have worked with these two and will be referring others to Makray as well! -

I always drive passed Makray Memorial Golf Club and think that would be an amazing place to get married. That is just what my husband and I did. From the beginning Laurie and Leeza were extremely helpful. They were like my helpers in planning my wedding with them. They had very helpful suggestions and thoughts they wanted me to keep in mind. These helped me plan out my wedding to be my dream wedding. Any time I emailed one of them, they always got back to me within 24 hours. They constantly had me at ease.
And then COVID hit...when most vendors spiraled out of control, Laurie and Leeza remained professional and extremely helpful. In turn, this helped me to keep a level head. They kept track of government orders and numbers and how this would effect our wedding. We got married in August when there was a maximum of 50 guests allowed. They helped me navigate through this tough and trying time. We figured out how to make the room look amazing still with only a fraction of the people. They maintained safe and comfortable standards within their establishment for COVID. I can't even begin to explain how easy they made the planning even when this pandemic hit. Even though it wasn't the original plan, Makray Mermorial Golf Club was still the perfect and dream wedding! Thanks Laurie and Leeza (and everyone else who helped navigate through this!)
Would 100% suggest you can't go wrong with Makray for your wedding. Beautiful grounds to take pictures and the price was very reasonable. Included all food/wedding cake/drinks. I just had to find my other vendors. Makray has worked with many vendors before, so they really know what they are doing! -

We had a great experience working with Makray for our August 2019 wedding. We had both our ceremony and reception at the location and chose to have an indoor morning wedding. We chose this venue because of how beautiful and affordable it was. They also provided a lot of services in house (including catering and a day of wedding coordinator). For the services they did not provide, they have partnerships with a lot of great local vendors that are also affordable and good quality. Laurie H. was amazing and worked with us from start to finish in the planning process. She was very personable and professional and helped us see all of our options. Everything was very customizable, which we appreciated since we had a specific budget in mind for our wedding. Audrea M. was also amazing to work with and she did a wonderful job organizing the details of the event. Overall we had a great experience and so much fun. We felt so supported by the Makray team throughout our planning process and our actual wedding day. I would recommend this venue to any of my friends for ceremony and/or reception. -

Leeza, Laurie, and Linda are phenomenal. They go out of their way to assist you in every way possible. The venue itself is beautiful and well maintained. The ranger takes a lot of pride in his course and it shows and makes for great photos. Even after the event was over the team on-site was extremely helpful in the clean-up and getting us all our stuff to go home. We couldn't thank this team enough for making our day everything we dreamed of and more. -

Absolutely perfect!! From the moment we showed up for our initial tour to midnight of our wedding night a year and a half later, we had the BEST time planning our wedding not to mention the fun we had on the day of. I can't speak enough kind words about Leeza who we worked with a majority of the time, but her fellow teammates Laurie and Lynda were absolutely amazing as well. We have gotten non-stop compliments on how beautiful Makray is and how well the entire ceremony and reception went. The food was delicious - so many people have mentioned how impressed they were that wedding food could be that tasty! The cake from the vendor that Makray works with was gorgeous and delicious as well!! I'm still in shock at how smoothly everything went. May just have to get married again in 5 years for an excuse to throw another epic bash at Makray - We love you Leeza!!! -

Lisa Sent on 10/15/2017I can't begin to describe how amazing it was to have our wedding at Makray. They worked with us for almost 2 years to make our wedding day a dream come true. The food was AMAZING from the tasting to the day of. The staff is responsive, flexible, and worked with me & all our decor set-up to make it absolutely flawless. They even took pictures of the ballroom for me before the photographers got there. They went above & beyond. Laurie Hudak is absolutely amazing and just the sweetest human. And the grounds are immaculate and great for photography. And for the price?! Very reasonable for everything you are getting. I can't rave enough about Makray. Thank you for making our wedding dreams a reality!!

First of all, the venue is beautiful… the rooms have a lovely view, and the décor matched our daughter’s vision to a tee. While rain prevented us from taking golf course shots, there are plenty of other great locations for photos.
Laurie and Leeza in the Catering Office were so easy to deal with: They kept us on track, advised us of options and were attentive to our needs. They are just the detail-oriented gals you want keeping tabs of your event! And so sweet and pleasant to deal with! HONEST – When I went to settle the account, they kept an accurate tab of what was still owed me!
On the day of the event, the execution was flawless. Lynda, our wedding coordinator, was so calming and even helped with my daughter’s hair since I was all thumbs! Audrea and Maria had the room looking spectacular and maintained an exceptional level of service for us and our guests. Maria and her team even packed all of our decorations carefully and had them ready for us the next morning!
But what really had our guests talking was the food: My in-laws from NY couldn’t stop talking about how great the appetizers were! The whole meal was delicious and beautifully presented. Chef Walter’s team gave us wonderful options at our tasting, and his team followed through for our event. Every course was a hit with our guests!
Makray exceeded expectations in all aspects of the event: From planning, to preparation, to execution, Makray was the perfect venue for our event!

Caitlin Sent on 08/18/2012I can't say enough great things about Makray! I can't even imagine having our reception any where else. They were so easy to work with and fast at responding to every email! Several of our guests told us that our food was the BEST wedding food they had ever had...and I have to agree! Since several of our guests ordered vegetarian, (and my husband and I are vegetarian) it was very important to us that we have a great vegetarian option...and we definitely did! The chef at Makray is the best! Like I said, everyone at Makray was incredibly easy to work with...they were incredibly accommodating!
Probably our most memorable part of the night is when a golfer on the course decided to scream at us while we were taking our pictures because we interrupted his golf game...the man said some of the most vulgar and disgusting things I have ever heard anyone say, but Makray handled it very well. They immediately apologized and kicked the man out. They also told us that the man was never allowed to come back to Makray ever. In retrospect, our wedding party thought the whole thing was really funny, and of course, that wasn't Makray's fault, but they handled it incredibly well...they also told us that nothing like that had ever happened before!
Overall, I can't say enough great things about Makray! Krystal and Laurie in the sales department are both amazing! The food is absolutely amazing! And of course the venue could not be more beautiful! We received several compliments on how beautiful the venue was! -

Jazmin Sent on 08/23/2011I chose Makray because I attended a wedding back in 2008 and loved every minute of it. The staff are great, extremly friendly and very accomodating. There was a little confusion with last minute details but having a lil extra time over the due date of when you had to pay for everthing worked out great. For the rehearsal we rehearsed outside, the weather was a bit chilly and was hoping it wouldnt be like that 2 days later. As the bride, I didnt think of doing a rehearsal indoors, hoping the weather would be great. As the staff, i beleive they should have mentioned it to me if we would like to do an indoor rehearsal. The day of the wedding, it stormed and the grounds were too wet to have my outdoor ceramony. So we winged it indoors. Although everything went well, I did wish we rehearsed it. Overall the food is amazing, including the cake that is provided, the staff is very occomadating to every need, and the venue is goreous inside and out. Not to mention, you will be the only wedding of the night!!!
