    Amazing Venue!

The Liriodendron Mansion was the second venue we toured back in 2024, and we instantly fell in love with it.

Tucked away in a quiet Bel Air neighborhood, the mansion was once home to Dr. Howard Kelly — one of the founders of Johns Hopkins and the inventor of the Kelly clamp — before being sold to the county.

The exterior is breathtaking, with two elegant porticos framing each side of the house. Behind the mansion, you’ll find a spacious patio that can comfortably seat 60–70 guests for dinner, surrounded by lush greenery and soft string lights overhead.

The staff were wonderful throughout the entire process — from our initial walk-throughs to day-of coordination — and made everything feel seamless.

If you’re looking for a venue with timeless charm, romantic ambiance, and a covered outdoor space perfect for dancing and cocktails, this is it.

I highly recommend visiting — you’ll fall in love just like we did.

As a photographer, this was a beautiful venue to work at! Grounds are big for different backdrops and the scenery is amazing, especially a sunset. very helpful staff as well.

    Absolutely Amazing!!!

We chose The Liriodendron as our wedding venue and it was absolutely amazing. The mansion is stunning and the outdoor ceremony space and terrace are so romantic and magical. The staff are great to work with too, especially Cathy who really went above and beyond to help make our day go smoothly.

    Liriodendron's reply:

Congratulations! We are thrilled to be part of your celebration and your new beginning as husband and wife. Thank you for your kind words and we wish you all the best.

    Perfect Location

The Liriodendron was a perfect location! They were so accommodating with our change of plans during the pandemic. The venue is gorgeous and perfect for both indoor and outdoor events. The bridal suit was great for my bridesmaids and me to get ready, and take pictures. The backdrop of trees made it feel like I was a fairy princess. There is plenty of parking and it's tucked away right in the town of Bel Air where my husband and I both grew up. In walking distance to our favorite brewery and cute shops and our favorite trail.

Thank you so much for the review, Meredith! We are happy that you had a wonderful experience for your big day. Best Wishes!

    Perfect Venue

The Liriodendron was the absolute perfect venue for our winter Beauty and the Beast wedding. It is beautiful, perfect, and amazing in every way possible. The staff is so helpful, they were on top of it throughout all of the pandemic restrictions, and were so accommodating. We not only had our ceremony and reception there, but also our rehearsal dinner! Due to Covid's restaurant restrictions, we were having the hardest time scheduling our rehearsal dinner - Leslie saved the day by offering the Liriodendron for an extra hour on our rehearsal day! Thank you all for bringing my princess, fairytale, winter wedding dreams to life!!

    Liriodendron's reply:

Hello Roni, and thank you so much for the kind words! We are happy to have been a part of your special day. We can't wait to see photos! You and both of your families were a pleasure to work with. Best Wishes to you and Hunter!

    Accommodated our changes through COVID

We had booked Liriodendron more than a year in advance of our Oct 2020 wedding date. Working with Leslie over the course of over a year has been super easy. She and her whole team was very accommodating to our needs, especially during the stressful COVID times. I'm sure the process has been stressful for them as well. But they could not have been more professional and patient. Can't recommend them enough!

    Liriodendron's reply:

Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm glad we could help make your day special, even though you had to change your plans. Best Wishes!

    Magical! Stunning!

We want to tell you how amazed and delighted everyone was with the Liriodendron Mansion. The layout was great for those who wanted to be a bit quieter to converse with family, and everyone enjoyed the fireplaces, lol, as the night air was a bit chilly. The architecture and careful restoration were major topics of conversation and appreciation. Leslie & her crew helped make the fairy tale setting even more magical! We were very glad to have the golf cart to bring folks back & forth from the lower parking lot.

    Liriodendron's reply:

Thank you for the kind words Chirs! We are so glad you and your guests enjoyed your special day with us. Come back to visit sometime! Best Wishes to you both.

    Wonderful venue

The liriodendron in itself is a gorgeous venue. You need very few decorations because it is stunning by itself. Their prices are great and you get a very whimsical wedding. Our event ran very smoothly I worried about nothing that day. Leslie is so quick to reply to any and all questions. My only concern with the venue was the bridal suite because it was so small, but when we visited the venue during our rehearsal Leslie excitedly informed me the expanded it, and it is so beautiful. The liriodendron was so accommodating it made our wedding so less stressful, we were even able to add an extra hour on short notice. Definitely recommend if you would love a beautiful, stress free venue.

    Liriodendron's reply:

Perfect venue for a relaxed wedding

My husband and I went to high school together in Bel Air and I am so happy we decided to go back to Bel Air to look at wedding venues. Leslie was amazing to work with, didn't mind us calling her multiple times to ask her thousands of questions and worked with us on the day of our wedding. We got married on a Thursday which saved us a little bit of money, but the venue is perfectly priced and you get all the chairs and tables from the Liriodendron! It's also a gorgeous venue if you are looking for something on the relaxed/nature/vintage side. My guests (especially ones from out of town) kept talking about how beautiful the mansion is and really enjoyed the history too.

    Liriodendron's reply:

Thank you so much for the nice review, Kayla. It was our pleasure to host your special day. Best Wishes to you!

    Beautiful Venue

I am so glad that my husband and I chose this venue to have our wedding. It is beautiful inside and out. It’s been a month since I got married but I still hear about how beautiful the wedding was. The staff was super helpful and Leslie gave me a great list of vendors to chose from. I believe it is affordable compared to other places in Maryland. My husband and I did the brunch wedding package and it was great. The only downfall is that the price is for only 3 hours and time just flew by. Either way, it was an absolutely beautiful day and I’m very happy with my decision.

    Liriodendron's reply:

Thank you so much for the nice review, Tiffany! We are happy to have hosted your special day. Our Brunch wedding option is very economical and couples love it. Best wishes to you!

    Most Beautiful Venue

This venue is stunning. The ceremony was outdoors, dinner was indoors, and the reception was indoor/outdoors. We got so many compliments on how beautiful the venue was. It is very reasonably priced. It is a small venue, but it was perfect for our number of guests. Our only complaint is the groom’s suite was very tight.

    Liriodendron's reply:

Thank you so much, Clara, and we are very happy that our historic site provided a wonderful setting for your wedding. Best wishes, and please come back to visit!

    Beautiful Venue, Incredible Service

Leslie and the team at the Liriodendron were attentive to whatever we needed and flexible with our request to come in early and set things up the day before. Communication was easy and they offered great suggestions for our other vendors. We had our wedding on a Friday and it was totally affordable for the space and amenities. We couldn't have asked for a better location to celebrate this new chapter of our lives.

    A Fairytale

We recently had our wedding at the Liriodendron Mansion. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. The venue itself was absolutely beautiful and well maintained. Our questions and concerns were promptly answered as we were from out of town. We showed up the day before the event for the rehearsal and they were working hard to prepare the grounds which looked like a page out of a fairytale. They even went out of their way to ensure the fountain was working despite the cold weather coming in. The house and the grounds were so well taken care of, it’s clear that they love this property and care about maintaining the history of it. Because of the great experience we had we would definitely have another event at the Liriodendron Mansion and we highly recommend them to anyone looking for an elegant location hidden by the woods.

What a Stunning and Magical Place!

The moment we set our eyes on the Liriodendron, we knew this was the place we were getting married. The venue is not only picture perfect for such an event, but the staff was communicative, kind, and made sure we were happy with everything. They coordinated with our other professionals and worked as a team. I cannot express just how grateful I am to be part of this historic mansion and it will always remain a special place to us. Thank you Leslie and the team!

    Beautiful Venue!

The Liriodendron is just a beautiful place to get married. It's such a hidden gem with so much history. We came to this venue during an open house and I envisioned the entire wedding. It was the one! We booked our date and then found our caterer from their vendor list (Dean & Brown is the best!). We opted for a daytime wedding with the standard four hours. If you have alot of speeches or want to enjoy a long reception, I recommend booking the extra hour (s) at the additional cost. Your wedding will go by so fast! . Leslie was so helpful during the entire process. She even allowed us to bring wedding items the day before which saved so much time and stress! I 100% recommend the Liriodendron if you have a guestlist of about 100 or under. You won't be disappointed!

    Liriodendron's reply:

Thank you so much for your kind words. We were happy to host and contribute a beautiful setting for your special day. Best Wishes for a great future together!

What an absolutely breathtaking venue at an affordable price. I lucked out an was able to have my wedding on the beautiful grounds. Leslie was a pleasure to work with despite my contact indecisiveness. I was also the perfect size for my 75 guests. It didn’t feel cramped and each space gave me a different vibe. From the wisteria drapped portico to the dining room with the fireplace this plac definitely has the vintage romance feel.

What a beautiful venue, inside and out. The Liriodendron has a charm that you won't find anywhere else. The mansion makes a beautiful backdrop for the wedding ceremony. We had a 100% chance of rain on our wedding day and were able to put our tables on the patios as well as a few inside. The weather cleared up right before our ceremony and we were still able to manage to have it outside. You can guarantee beautiful pictures here and the elegance of the venue means you don't need to do much decorating.

We couldn't have asked for a perfect venue for our wedding. We worked with Leslie from the initial tour all the way through to the wedding itself. Very professional, good communication, and always prepared! It unfortunately rained on the day of our wedding, but Leslie called the day before and helped get everything set up for the day of.

The Liriodendron will provide chairs, tables, and stands if you require them, which is a huge plus. They allow you to arrive early to setup for your wedding and give you plenty of time for tear down. The location is very easy to get to and there is also plenty of parking.

We shopped around looking at quite a few venues in Maryland, and not only did the Liriodendron impress with how gorgeous it was, it was very economical as well.

Although we really wished the wedding could have been outside to show off how beautiful the mansion and surrounding area was, the interior is just as beautiful. The mansion is well kept, clean, and feels very classical. When the wisteria is in bloom, you simply cannot find a more beautiful place to host a wedding.

    Liriodendron's reply:

Thank you so much for the lovely review! We're glad we helped make your wedding day wonderful. Best Wishes to you and Shannon.

We loved this venue! We had a late March Sunday brunch wedding ceremony and reception with Dean & Brown catering and can't say enough positive things. If you go with Liriodendron, I highly recommend also going with Dean & Brown because they work so well together. We spent a long time looking for affordable options and didn't think we would be able to have something this beautiful in our price range. It was much colder than expected (snowing) on our wedding day but even without the outside space, the inside was beautiful and there was plenty of room for just over 50 guests. We got married in front of the main fireplace and I was able to bring my own decorations for the mantles and the stair railing . Since we were coming from out of town, they allowed us to drop off most of our things the day before (even though they were setting up for another wedding). We were able to make payments when it was convenient for us. They were so accommodating and the value was amazing!

    Liriodendron's reply:

Thank you so much for the great review, Courtney. We are so glad that the Liriodendron could provide you and your guests with an elegant, yet warm and intimate setting for your special day. And your wedding was absolutely beautiful!

In our search for the perfect venue we came across this gem for our July wedding. This was the first venue that was reasonably priced but didn't feel like we were settling. Everything was beautiful and the staff was very helpful. They were able to accommodate us by adding an extra hour (for a cost of course) to how long we could use the venue. The venue was stunning with the historical look and atmosphere combined with the wooded feel that we were looking for. All of our guests enjoyed the venue and really felt it was such a lovely place. The only downside was that we were expecting that the outside fountain would be running which it wasn't (due to mechanical error, pump wasn't working). But overall this venue was perfect for us and we are very happy we had it there. The pictures were done by James Trudeau who was amazing! Our wedding coordinator Marta Kasner was phenomenal setting up our decorations with our caterer Dean & Brown. Racheal Zajac made our ceremony so personal and fun! Everything turned out better than expected and all of our venders worked great together!

    Liriodendron's reply:

Thank you so much for the great review! We are very glad that your special day here at the Liriodendron turned out so well. (I can let you know, we have a generous friend of a Board member who is going to completely renovate and improve our fountain!) Best Wishes to you both and please come back and visit us.

We had our ceremony and reception at the Liriodendron 2 days ago (August 2017). Everything was amazing and beyond our expectations!! The mansion and grounds are absolutely gorgeous and all of our guests enjoyed the historical significance and architecture. We started working with Glenda and then Leslie took over the position. Both were great to work with. Cindy was our staff on site for the wedding. She was very nice and very accommodating to anything we or our vendors needed. They were able to let us bring the decorations early and drop off multiples loads. You cannot use real candles here but that did not bother us at all. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone. It is cost effective too for the gorgeous setting and you can bring in a caterer off of their list and bring your own alcohol.

    Liriodendron's reply:

Hello Tammy, congratulations to you and Jeff! And thank you so much for the wonderful review. We are happy that we could help make your wedding so special. Just to clarify, we do require a caterer from our approved list, and you made a great choice with Dean & Brown - as you experienced, their service is outstanding. And we agree, the Liriodendron offers great value for the beautiful setting. Thanks again, and best wishes to you, Leslie

The venue was lavishly beautiful, and you can't beat the price-to-quality ratio! Every inch of the mansion is meticulous. Our guests loved the architecture as well as the historical photos in one of the rooms. We fit 112 seats on one of the porticoes for the ceremony, used the 3 larger rooms inside for seating during the dinner, removed a few tables from one room when it was dance time (yes, there was room for a 6-piece band!), used one of two smaller rooms for the buffet and the other of the two smaller rooms for a photo booth area. The other portico was used for the open bar and overflow dancing. The grounds were gorgeous! We had a fall wedding, but I've seen this location in spring and summer, and it's equally beautiful. We LOVED the arch of wisteria that covered the front porch; it made a perfect backdrop for photos, as did the front entrance, even at night! Lighting and air conditioning inside were perfect. We highly recommend the Liriodendron Mansion for your wedding and reception.

I fell in love with the Liriodendron Mansion as soon as I saw it driving up. The venue is a historic mansion, so it comes with a number of typical restrictions on decorations and access, so if you have your heart set on candles centerpieces, a sparklers send-off, or a specific caterer, you have to look elsewhere. (That said, Dean and Brown is one of the caterers allowed at the venue, and they are absolutely fantastic). Lirio is affordable, incredibly photogenic and can boast awonderful staff, who are as flexible as the rules of the venue allow them to be. They are helpful, responsive and supportive throughout the planning process. And on the day of the wedding, they largely stay in the office unless you require their assistance. The Bel Air area doesn't have a ton of restaurants or the type of hotels you would ideally want to stay for your wedding night, but Havre de Grace is a short ride away, and the local hotels, while not upscale, are clean and comfortable. And most importantly, those wedding pictures are going to look awesome!

We had our ceremony and reception at the Liriodendron and it was more beautiful than we could have ever dreamed. We worked with Dorothy until she retired and then Glenda, both very knowledgeable about the history of the grounds and were easy to work with. Most people who attended our wedding were wowed by the beauty of the venue and could not believe we found such a beautiful hidden gem. If you decide to book the Liriodendron, please consider choosing Dean and Brown as your caterer as they are very knowledgeable with the venue and receive an amazing wedding coordinator in Terry as well.

My husband and I wanted to have a small wedding so that we could instead have an amazing honeymoon and not break the bank since we are in the process of saving to purchase our first home. I didn't want to get married at the courthouse and was searching for a venue that was intimate and beautiful so that I could share the day with a few close family members and friends and still have amazing photos to look back on. The Liriodendron Mansion was the perfect alternative. They offer a petite wedding package for a 3 hour period for a very reasonable price. We got married on a Wednesday in the early afternoon in late May. The house itself is old, but historic and beautiful with lush green grounds and lovely wisteria growing over the back terrace. It was picture perfect. We were fortunate to have a beautiful, sunny day. We got married outside on the side portico which is covered and has a beautiful view of the lawns. Flowers were blooming everywhere and it was just such a pretty location. Our photos came out so well with vibrant green backgrounds. Apparently I missed the purple blooms of the wisteria by about 2 weeks, so I think the best time would be the first two weeks of May. Dorothy was amazing. She answered all of my many questions via email in a very timely manner. Glenda was also wonderful - sharing the amazing history of the home and the family that lived there as we explored all of the rooms during our visit. If you are having a small wedding and looking for a beautiful location and want amazing photos, but don't want to break the bank, then I highly recommend you check out the Liriodendron!

We recently had our wedding (Jan. 17, 2014 ) at the Liriodendron Mansion in Belair,MD. It was the perfect setting for an intimate winter wedding. We had 75 guests and the coziness , fireplaces and feel of the mansion were exactly what we, as an older couple, were looking for as a setting. It was a pleasure working with Dorothy to set up the date, there were photo albums available of other weddings to get a feel of the venue and the mansion was open different times on the weekend to go and visit. I would highly recommend this venue for a wedding.

Love love love this venue! From the moment I stepped foot on the property I knew this was the place for our wedding. We signed our contract a year and a half in advance and never once had difficulty with this venue. Dorothy was amazing and much more flexible than many have stated. The grounds are pristine and add so much to the wedding backdrop. The arbors outside were amazing and our guests loved eating dinner under them. Dorothy was our night of attendant and she stood in the background waiting to help if needed. I couldn't be more pleased with Liriodendron and all it has to offer. To brides looking at this venue please remember it is county property and does have some strict regulations. If you want candles or cords running across the floors then this is not the place for you. If you are ok with LED candles and enjoying the beautiful landscaping then I would highly recommend this venue!

I loved the Liriodendron, this was the first and only venue that I looked at. Dorothy from Lirio was incredibly helpful and easy to work with. The Lirio is incredibly reasonably priced, I still cannot believe how beautiful my wedding was for the total amount we spent on it. A few tips for anyone considering this venue......consider booking your wedding on a friday rather than a saturday because they only book one wedding on fridays, but two weddings on saturdays so you're much more constrained when it comes to getting additional time. If you're having your ceremony and reception at the Lirio consider booking 6 hours rather than the standard booking of 4 hours. In addition to the 6 hours we also booked additional time so that we could get pictures on the veranda before the tables got set up on it; I haven't seen the pictures yet but it was difficult to get good pictures on the veranda earlier in the day because the sun was shining through the wisteria. If you're having a spring/summer wedding and it doesn't rain the wedding will be priceless; sitting under the Wisteria vines on the veranda is one of the most beautiful things you could ever think of, but prepare yourself incase it does rain because you can't control the weather. This is a wonderful venue and if you're willing to risk the weather I would highly recommend it.

This place is so incredibly beautiful and classy. I couldn't believe how affordable it was and that it was available on such sort notice. The Liriodendron is so beautiful and has soo much character that you really don't even need flowers for decorations. The staff was wonderful, especially Dorothy.
There were only a few cons...No candles what so ever and they have their approved list of caterers, you cannot use anyone else! We lucked out using Dean and Brown! They also did a fantastic job! Their food was delicious and there personal service was amazing.
    This place is perfect!!!

Liriodendron is absolutely beautiful. Though I would have loved to see the wisteria in bloom for a spring or summer wedding, we (wife) opted for a fall wedding. Not only is my wife amazingly beautiful, our photographer captured the historical attributes of the Liriodendron mansion with a few black and white shots that everyone will not stop talking about. They have a 1920-1940s feel that is classic and elegant. We lucked out and had 68 degree weather with clear and sunny skies - so we got married on the portico. Our tables were all outside lined up on the patio/porticos - AMAZING. You just have to see it, don't rent a hall - give your fiancee what she wants - because let's be honest here, she's going to be the boss anyway!

Honestly, I don't know why this place isn't 3 times the price and booked for years in advance. Not only was Liriodendron so beautiful that I almost didn't even need a florist, but I was absolutely stunned to see that it was also the cheapest venue that I looked into renting.

Needless to say, I booked it right away. And thanks to Liriodendron and its very competent staff, the one word everyone has used to describe my wedding has been "perfect".

Still, every place has its pros and cons, so here is my official list:

    PROS:
    - Lirio has two huge, covered, open-air wings so that you can have a plan A, B, or C based on the weather.
    - Gorgeous interior, with large, wide doorways downstairs and a hidden kitchen
    - The porch area is wide enough to fit tables on with plenty of room to spare, and has four huge metal arches covered in wisteria going over it, like a private garden
    - There is a ridiculous amount of free on-site parking
    - Close enough to Baltimore to be within 15 minutes of pretty much whatever hotel you want to stay in
    - Surrounded by flowers, flowering bushes, urns with flowers, flowering trees... you get the picture. No additional decorations were necessary.
    - The staff was very friendly and professional, and had plenty of advice and suggestions to make everything as seamless and stress-free as possible.

    CONS:
    - You cannot choose your caterer, period. The caterer we chose, however (Dean and Brown) is fantastic and incredibly affordable (see my review of them)
    - You have to pay extra for the rental of tables and chairs
    - It's a bit hard to find at first
    - Standard no-fire, no hanging, etc. historic mansion rules apply

Overall, if I could point to a reason that my wedding was absolutely flawless, it would all stem back to my choice of Liriodendron as my venue. I absolutely cannot say enough good things about it.

Absolutely beautiful local piece of harford county history! The Liriodendron is the perfect place to hold a wedding if your guest count is around 100 range. It's very affordable compared to the prices they charge in Baltimore city.

I was married at 7pm on May 19th and while we lucked out weather wise and were able to be married and dine outside, there were enough alternate indoor options for our 130 guests that I was comfortable come rain or hail. Best of all there were NO mosquitos/bugs! I was looking for an affordable venue that we would not need to decorate ourselves outside of the usual flowers/table decor and this fit the bill perfectly – it is breathtaking and the grounds are very well kept. Our guests were blown away, it was a magical day, our pictures are amazing and we did not blow our budget on the venue. Yes, they do have rules regarding outdoor speakers and candles are a no but we had no issue with any of them and found Dorothy and her staff were always available and friendly! I feel fortunate to have been married here and highly recommend this venue!!!

Many thanks to the staff of the Liriodendron mansion and Dean and Brown caterers. My daughters ceremony and reception exceeded all of our expectations. The food was excellent and servers were professional and kind. The historic mansion and the lush grounds are beautiful and Terry, our coordinator, kept everything on point from beginning to end. Family and friends repeatedly told us how much they enjoyed the venue. I was at first concerned about tables divided between the porch and patio, but this was not a problem in the least. Dancing was great in the piano room and guests enjoyed chatting in the adjoining rooms and on the porticos. They loved it! We were blessed with excellent weather, but I am sure that even with a little rain, the staff at Lirio and Dean and Brown would make any event unforgettable.

Patti and Dorothy were great! We had so many positive comments from our guests on our choice of venue for our winter ceremony and reception. I liked having the bridal room upstairs and it was great to be able to walk down the staircase to the fireplace room for the ceremony. We had 85 guests and while it was a bit tight inside, we enjoyed the space. The outside areas are very nice, too, and we took some pictures on the portico, front porch, and near the fountain.

Ray and I only looked at one venue...the Liriodendron. We did choose a Friday night in January and found the cost to be wonderful since we were not looking to put a lot of money into a venue...but got the perfect venue at an amazing price. Dean and Brown are accepted vendors for the Lirio and knew it perfectly..this helped allow the night to flow so perfectly.
My Sister was married at the Lirio 27 years ago...it was just as amazing then as it is now. To walk down the spiral staircase to my waiting groom standing in front of the lit fireplace...we did not need to spend a lot of money on other decorations...we let the naturalness of the beauty and ambiance be our back drop.
Dorothy was wonderful to work with and I appreciated her assistance several times.
I would recommend the Lirio any time of the year...we had 40 guest and were married in the entrance hall in front of the fireplace...nothing could beat it for us!!!!
Thank you Lirio for just being yourself!!!!

Our party grew so large that we had to move to a different venue. We ended up on the family proprerty with tents, dance floor, lights, etc...it was beautiful. If you have 125 or less, you MUST go to the Liriodendron!!!!

The staff was friendly and easy to work with. They have a caterer list that you need to pick from, but there were a huge variety of price points to work with. There are white padded chairs for the ceremony and several indoor and outdoor options for ceremony placement. The layout of the mansion and porches worked well for our cocktail-style reception. On the day of our wedding the weather was "iffy" and they were wonderful about waiting until the last minute to make the indoor/outdoor decision. It really paid off because the storm passed and wee were able to go outside!

We were recently married at the Liriodendron. Rain was in the forecast, but everyone made designated Plans A, B, and even (on the day of) C. The only anxiety I had was awaiting the contract for the venue months ago, but it was smooth sailing from there--and I'm sure Lirio is quite popular and busy given it's location and serene atmosphere. Everyone was enthralled by the Prussian architecture, and especially entranced by the wisteria which was in peak bloom. Thanks for being budget-friendly and for making our wedding a memorable one!

We stumbled upon our dream venue - the Liriodendron mansion was a beautiful setting for our outdoor ceremony and dinner. The architectural detail of the house is stunning and I highly recommended the fall here as the greenery is just vibrant. It also provided the flexibility to move indoors for dancing and cocktails when it got chillier later in the evening. Dorothy was professional and easy to talk to from the start. Great venue!

The Liriodendron is a charming mansion that's located on beautifully landscaped grounds in Bel Air. It is a venue for smaller weddings (we had 50 guests) and we were able to use both the inside and outdoor spaces. The outdoor porches are gorgeous, the bride enters the ceremony from a lovely second floor staircase, and all the nooks and crannies of the first floor are utilized to provide unique spaces for dining, the cake set-up, photo booth (highly recommend), DJ, etc. If you love old architecture and appreciate the beauty of a different era you should definitely check out the Liriodendron for your wedding. Patty and Dorothy are very easy to work with and helped guide us with all our wedding details. The one draw back is because the mansion is open to the public, we had to have the rehearsal on Thursday, rather than the day before the wedding. Not a big deal, but some of the out of town wedding party were not able to attend.

Liriodendron was a great place to have our wedding! It was beautiful, unique, and a great value. The only thing that would have made the venue exceptional is if their time slots were a little longer; their base time slot is four hours, which is a little short for a wedding reception. You cannot buy additional hours, you have to purchase the other four hour slot, too, if you wan to extend your time period or have a flexible start date.

All that being said, it was a minor issue, and the place was a great value and pretty venue!

    Gorgeous venue!

We originally didn’t visit the Liriodendron because of the capacity (120), but there was a Wednesday open house that we were nearby and decided to stop in. My husband and I just looked at each other and had that feeling- the venue and grounds are absolutely stunning. I love that it’s right next to the woods too! The only hiccup we had was regarding email communication with the prior manager, but we were able to get in contact via phone very easily such that it wasn’t a problem! The wedding day and day-of staff were wonderful- the weather was perfect so we could go with our plan A outside and it was just the perfect magical venue for our romantic wedding.

    Liriodendron's reply:

We are so thrilled you selected the Liriodendron to be part of your celebration. We wish you both best and hope to see you at one of our concerts or special events. Congratulations!

    Dreamy space for wedding

We had an intercultural Indian-Korean wedding at Liriodendron and everything about Lirio was wow factors. We fell in love right away as soon as we walked in and Cathy and Chris were accommodating on all the moving parts. We highly recommend Lirio!

    Liriodendron's reply:

Congratulations and thank you for your kind words. It was truly our pleasure to work with you and be part of your celebration. We wish you both the very best and hope to see you at one of our Music At The Mansion Events! Thank you and CONGRATULATIONS!

    Beautiful venue!

Leslie was great to work with, and the venue was so beautiful. This is a great place to get married because of the flexibility of moving the event inside or outside. The building has a great bridal suite and groom’s room for getting ready. Lots of beautiful options for choosing where you want the ceremony, reception, dancing, etc.

    Liriodendron's reply:

Thank you for the review and kind words, Rachel. We were happy to provide a beautiful setting for your big day. Best Wishes!

Great place for a garden/mansion wedding

This was the most beautiful venue and was a perfect choice for indoor/outdoor as we were still trying to keep things covid-safe. The bridal suite was a great space too for my bridesmaids and mom to relax before and also during the reception. Lovely flowers and gardens for photos too!

The liriodendron was the perfect venue for our smaller wedding with around 70 guests. Anymore and I think it might have felt stuffy. There are some decorating restrictions but they were easy to work with and the venue is already gorgeous. The price point was also well below many of the other venues we had looked at. We loved it!

    Liriodendron's reply:

Thank you so much for the positive review Kaitlin. We are very happy that we could help make your special day a lovely one!

This location is gorgeous! I was lucky enough to have grown up right around the corner from the mansion so I knew from early childhood that this is where I would get married. It is a hidden gem and like something out of a fairy tale, especially when the wisteria is in blood. I would highly recommend this venue.

My husband and I had our recent July 25th 2015 wedding at the Liriodendron. First of all-- what a gorgeous venue. The weather was perfect, and we were able to take advantage and have our ceremony and dinner outside. Because of the extensive landscaping and beautiful scenery, we were able to save considerably on flowers and extra decorations. Had it rained, this venue has multiple options available for indoor ceremonies. Our guests were delighted with both the outside and inside and were able to wander the open portions of the mansion in order to take a break from the dancing. Since this venue is owned by Harford County Parks and Recreation, the price is a bargain compared to many other venues although the person in charge (Dorothy) did mention that fees are going up soon. The only glitch was a mishap with chair and table rentals. Those fees are due the week before the wedding, and we were not given a reminder, so couples need to be aware of this. Also, this is a historic home, so candles are not permitted in the décor. Beautiful venue and I would highly recommend it for a wedding in any season.

The Liriodendron was the absolute perfect wedding venue. The mansion itself is a real treasure tucked away in the heart of Bel Air. Just a gorgeous, old-fashioned manor with charm and versatility. The price is extremely reasonable for everything they offer, and it compares most favorably to other vendors in the area. Dorothy was great to work with, and always accommodated our needs. She also gave me last minute tips and pointers. We were married there October 23rd, 2010 in the morning (we didn't need candles, since it was daylight, so the "no candles" rule didn't hamper us in the slightest). The weather was perfect and the ceremony was outdoors in the most beautiful fall scenery. We had about 85 guests, seated primarily outside on the porches and one portico. We went with Dean and Brown from their approved caterer list. They were amazing. The beautiful piano room was perfect for dancing and the central room held everyone gathered for the toasts and the cake-cutting. The end room with the long dining table held some food (we went with a buffet option), but my absolute favorite part.... The BRIDAL room! Huge, connecting bathroom, vanity mirrors and an antique "fainting" couch. It was really a joy to have that wonderful space to get ready with my girls. Basically a perfect place to choose for a wedding day!

This was the most beautiful place for a wedding - it was like a scene from a movie, making for amazing pictures as well. The only reason I would give 4 instead of 5 starts for flexibility is because it is a historic site, with certain restrictions. These restrictions include no lit candles (we had flickering tealights instead), DJ speakers in only one room, and a big dining table that cannot be moved (but we just made that our head table). But my husband and I are both so glad that we chose this place.

The Liriodendron was the perfect place for our July outdoor ceremony and reception. The mansion is so beautiful, and we didn't need any flowers or decorations for our outside ceremony since the grounds were gorgeous. We were lucky enough to have our ceremony outside even though the weather was iffy, however, we opted to move our reception inside instead of having our tables outside on the veranda and porticos. We had approximately 90 guests seated inside for dinner and it was a little tight. Some of our guests seemed to be crowded in the corners, but it was the best we could do because of the weather. This is not the venue for you if you plan on having more than 100 guests. The Liriodendron was a great value for the Baltimore area and was by far cheaper than most of the other venues we researched, even after we paid for the chair/table rentals through the Liriodendron.

The Lirio does have a few rules and regulations that they will not bend on, but they didn't bother us. For example, ceremony start time for an evening ceremony has to be 7pm. We only had from 7pm-11pm for our ceremony, pictures, and our reception, which made the evening fly by. If I had to do it again, I would have paid for the additional hour at the end of the night and ha dour reception end at 12am. They will not allow you to purchase an hour before the 7pm time even if there is no afternoon event. Also, you cannot have outdoor music for the reception. Our DJ had to angle the speakers toward the outdoor portico so that our guests could hear the music when they were dancing. Another regulation is that you cannot have candles, which is a common rule for historical sites. We used flickering LED tealights in frosted glass votives, which gave the appearance of a real candle and was just as beautiful. The Lirio has a list of about 8 approved caterers that you can use, and you must select one from that list. We choose Dean and Brown Catering because they were very reasonable compared to other caterers and they know the venue very well. They were GREAT!

Overall, our guests said that the Liriodendron was one of the most beautiful places they had been to for a wedding and we were pleased with the way the ceremony and reception turned out.

Liriodendron was perfect for our classic, winter, vintage wedding. The house it self is ornatly decorated and needs very little added to it for a wedding to look beautiful. My colors went along great with the feel of the space. The value is great, we were able to use a winter special which included rental of all chairs and tables and the use of the 3 large fireplaces in the reception space. Several people asked how I had heard about the mansion and said that the sapce was perfect for our smaller wedding of about 100 people. Because the mansion is historic and doesoffer tours to the public during the week you can't really move any of the furniture or have candles lit so if that is important to you then this may not be the space for you. We used the battery opperated candles and it worked perfectly for us.

Our wedding ceremony and reception were wonderful at this grand historical mansion. Dorothy was wonderful. The decor in the mansion and the gardens were amazing, a perfect wedding setting. As the weather was a little weird this year, the wisteria bloomed before our wedding day. Dorothy had joked with the gardener about promising rhododendrun blooms and as promised, they did! ;) The wisteria was in full greenery making for a perfect backdrop. They had also ordered new chairs both inside and out..LOVED!
For 2 reasons we did not give them a perfect 5 stars:
One, we had discussed our requirement of air conditioning at our venue, due to my mom having MS and my grandparents being in less than stellar health. The AC was not on nor available during our reception. We did open the doors and windows creating some relief for them.
Secondly, our venue rep for the evening (I think her name was Pattie) was unaware that we had purchased the extra hour. She advised the DJ that the end of the night was nearing and suggested playing our last song. When I spoke to the DJ about the early song, she approached me asking if i was sure that i paid the Liriodendron and not just the caterer. I thought this quite unprofessional to first speak to my DJ, then to question my certainty of payment, when it was she who was miscommunicated.
These 2 hiccups did not ruin our wedding, and everything else was prefection. Don't sweat the little things.

The Liriodendron was the perfect setting for our May wedding! We loved that it didn't need much of anything in the way of decoration! Dorothy is very professional, but a little over the top. We had wedding planners and she would contact us instead of them. It was a little frustrating. There is a list of caterers to choose from and you have to choose from this list. The caterers on the list are a little on the pricey side as well. Other than that, our day was wonderful and it was a great choice for our outdoor ceremony and indoor reception!

The Liriodendron is a BEAUTIFUL mansion. It is kept up well and doesn't really need any decoration to make a fabulous wedding. It was the perfect place!!! The only downfall is that there are only a few ways to set it up. If the weather is good you can have an outdoor wedding like we did and it will be so pretty.

We searched three states for just the right location - we never realized that we'd end up right where I grew up. It really is a hidden gem, tucked in an unlikely location. We were searching for a place that was affordable, private, elegant, where our guests could spread out but not feel overwhelmed by a big location. We wanted to be able to get married outside, but to have enough room inside just in case that would be just as lovely. I also did not want to share the day with anyone else, and wanted to pick my times. I ended up choosing a Friday so we could do this, and paid extra to add an hour, which ended up being a wise idea. The Lirio asks that you pay for chairs and tables, and ceremony chairs, but in total, the costs ended up being more reasonable than any other scenario we put together. They also have several pre-approved caterers, but we were happy with our choice, and they really knew how to utilize the space to the best advantage. We were lucky, and the weather let us have our ceremony, hors d'ouvres, and dinner outside, but I felt confident that if we did have to have it inside, it would have been just as elegant. It was easy to add to the decor and keep within the budget, and I got around the no-candles rule but using flickerless (battery) candles placed in frosted votives (looked similar and withstood any breeze). Another big bonus is that there is a bride's room, for the bride and her party to keep all their stuff in, and to get ready in (lots of photo ops). They also had a room for my husband and best man to get ready in. We were able to drop by on several occasions to do walkthroughs, and calm our nerves about if we made a good choice. There is plenty of parking, and it is well lit at night. My only worry was if the house would be clean and set up after being under construction for the winter, but when we showed up on our wedding day, they had cleaned the house and completely landscaped the lawn and flowers. We couldn't have been happier, it was the perfect location for us.

We had a lovely wedding at the Liriodendron. 4 hours felt shorter than I expected, but sharing the day with another wedding made this venue far more affordable than most others. We had 70 people for an indoor reception, and I wouldn't recommend having a lot more than that. I think it would have been less crowded if we did the reception on the patio but I didn't want tables cluttering up our photos. The venue fee was a good value for such a nice mansion, especially when you consider that tables and chiavari chairs are included.

    Liriodendron's reply:

Thank you for your positive review Jessica, and for choosing the Liriodendron for your big day. Best wishes to you and your new husband!

Please visit this venue in person! Their website and their advertisements in Weddings 411 for example, do not do it justice at all! We were not going to go visit because of the website but when we did we fell in love! Please go do a site visit and don't just cross them off your list because of the website. They are very helpful. The venue is so full of love and light! It is different and interesting and full of history! My husband and I didn't want to get married where everyone else gets married, we wanted something different and "ours", and we found it in Bel Air at the beautiful Liriodendron Mansion. I gave them a 4 out of 5 on the flexibility only because it is a historic home and so there are some rules and regulations you have to follow BUT we didn't mind at all, we were happy to help preserve the historic home! And the responsiveness is good, not great, so plan ahead--it is simply because their office hours are so limited so if you email after 1pm, you more than likely won't hear back until the next day, unlike some of my other vendors who got back to me in an hour! But it was fine, I am a planner so one business day didn't make a difference I jus thought I would mention it.

I don't know how this place isn't overrun with weddings. We used the Liriodendron for both our ceremony and reception, and I couldn't have been happier. We ended up having a beautiful evening, but if it had rained, we still had the option of moving the ceremony to either one of the porches or inside by the fireplace. It made it so much easier to have the outdoor wedding that I wanted, without having to think about renting a tent as a backup. If you're looking for something other than a cookie cutter ballroom, it will be hard to top this. I didn't have to spend as much on flowers because the place is so beautiful on its own.
Two really small things that had no bearing on the day of...one, there were a couple of emails that went unanswered, but they were really helpful as soon as I phoned. And two, being a historical site, they have some rules that they won't bend on. No candles, and no hanging string lights. We compensated by using a few chinese lanterns with fake candles as centerpieces. That way, we still got the "candle" glow without seeing the fake candle. In the end, I didn't even notice because everything was so gorgeous. Thank you Lirio!

We had a fabulous time at this beautiful location, and feel so fortunate to have been able to marry and celebrate here. We were married here on June 13, and were lucky enough to have fantastic weather. Slightly overcast, with a breeze. We got to hold our wedding outdoors, which was our dream come true! The setting is just gorgeous. So lush and green everywhere you look. We held our ceremony facing the woods, which makes for a fantastic grand entrance as you head down the steps from the mansion. We didn't even order any floral decorations of any kind for our ceremony - there was so much natural beauty with the white chairs set on the green lawn, and the Liriodendron has many urns that they plant with beautiful flowers. The wisteria on the porch were not in bloom for us (you have to book in May for that), but we got to dine under a beautiful leafy green canopy. (The Liriodendron requires that you use a caterer from their list, and we were very pleased with Dean & Brown.) The lovely blue porticos were open for cocktails and conversation, and we had dancing inside the piano room. (Unfortunately, you are not permitted to play music outdoors other than for the ceremony, but our DJ Michael Valenti did a great job working within the confines of the mansion and played it through the open windows so we could hear it outside during dinner. Still, that rule is a bit of a shame for an outdoor summer wedding, but I don't think they can do anything about it because it has to do with neighborhood noise regulations. Overall, this was only a minor inconvenience, and not worth passing up the Liriodendron for!)

The Liriodendron was the perfect size for our wedding of 75 guests. It felt intimate, but never crowded. However, if our wedding would have had to be held entirely indoors, we may have preferred a different location with a different layout. Still, this is just a charming, beautiful place, so you really can't go wrong, indoors or out. My girls and I really enjoyed getting ready in the private bridal suite upstairs. The architecture inside and out also make for great photos.

One thing I definitely would have changed if I could have would be to have an earlier ceremony start time. Unfortunately, you can only book to start your event at 12-noon, or 7:00 p.m. We knew we wanted an evening ceremony and reception, but 6:00 p.m. would have been strongly preferred. By starting at 7:00pm, we really had to rush to squeeze in all the formal photos before sunset. We booked for an extra hour, which extended our end-time from 11 p.m. till midnight - which I highly recommend! Four hours would have been way too short; as it was I wish we could have had even one MORE additional hour!

All in all, the Lirio was a wonderful venue for our wedding (even the pricing was reasonable). We are so glad we were able to book it, and will treasure the memories forever! If you call, speak with Dorothy; she was a pleasure to work with.

The Liriodenrdron is a beautiful historic home. Unlike many other historic home venues the rooms are very open so the flow is great for a wedding. The three porches add drama and additional space for your guests, a bar, an overflow dance floor... whatever.

The grounds are surrounded by a state park, so it's very quiet and peaceful. There are huge old trees that add so much warmth and character. The parking lot is huge and hidden from view. The leaves were raked for my outdoor ceremony.

You do need to use their caterer list (at least 8 to choose from), and candles are verboten, but as long as these aren't deal breakers for you then you'll be very happy.

It was so affrodable we rented it for the whole day rather then the 4-6 hour chunks of time so many other places have.

Dorothy and staff were wonderful to work with, always responsive.

    It honestly felt like home!

Gorgeous venue for a really good price (considering other mansions in the area start at $8k). The staff were really friendly and helpful. We had both our ceremony and reception there and it was awesome. If you plan to have the reception there, you are limited to picking caterers from a list of 16 places. That wasn't too bothersome for my husband and I because we weren't really concerned with having some super specific meal. There's lots of indoor and outdoor options for both the ceremony and reception and they don't make you make your final decision on that until the day before. Lots of great photo ops.

    Liriodendron's reply:

Thank you Jenny for the nice review, we are so glad you are happy with your experience at the Liriodendron. Best Wishes to you and Tim!

The Liriodendron is beautiful and Dorothy (the coordinator) is very easy to work with. We were able to take advantage of a fall special so the price/value was amazing. The down side to the Liriodendron is they have pretty strict rules (to be expected in a historic mansion) about amplified music, open flames and furniture being moved. We had one problem with our rehearsal, the Liriodendron typically only has rehearsals on Thursday (we got married Saturday, 11/2) but we made special arrangements to have ours on Friday since Thursday was Halloween. Unfortunately, that appointment got lost and when we showed up for our rehearsal no one from the mansion was present to let us in. Worked out ok because the weather was nice enough for us to have it outside so we did a run through with the officiant by cell phone flashlight. Overall the experience was great and the place is gorgeous and a perfect size for a smaller intimate wedding.

A beatiful, and beautifully priced wedding atmosphere

This is like the perfect fairytale location for a wedding - at least if was for mine. It works rain or shine (it rained on my wedding day but there was plenty of space to move everything inside - about 50 guests). The atmosphere is so beautiful that you really only need minimal decorations. There is room for dancing, dinner, drinking, and relaxing. The bride and groom's "getting ready" spaces upstairs are gorgeous and make for great photo ops (peep the iron bathtub upstairs!). A few downsides: they are not flexible at all with certain regulations (they do not allow any flames - no candles, sparklers, tiki torches, etc.; they only allow you to choose from about 8 different catering companies - NO EXCEPTIONS); the lighting inside in the evening is very poor, so make sure you have an experienced photographer with adequate lenses and equipment if you have an indoor/evening wedding.

    Liriodendron's reply:

Hello Jennifer - we were happy to host your special day! Thank you for the review and we are glad your wedding experience was wonderful. A couple of clarifications for future brides.... we can consider catering exceptions (to our list of 10) for specific cultural or religious dietary needs. We do have to keep to our "no open flame" policy due to the historic nature of our property, but again our only exception there would be for specific religious rituals for a wedding ceremony. Best Wishes to you and please visit us sometime!

Being a history nerd, I loved the hall! However, I arrived 30 mins early the day of the wedding to meet my florist there and I catch the 3rd degree about inconviencing the caretaker lady.

We originally booked Liriodendron in October 2008 for what was then to be our November 2009 wedding. Everything went well until we moved up our date, and the coordinator gave me a slight heart attack when I was checking for other available dates. She'd told me another bride was interested in my date, and when I'd expressed interest in a September date, but that I'd need to check with my vendors to see if they were available, the response I got was that she'd already rebooked the date for another couple who was "so interested in our date!"

To say that I had a small heart attack would be an understatement. Luckily that was worked out. The coordinator told me she hadn't rebooked the date yet (but that's what she'd said in her e-mail) and we did move up our date the next day when I'd checked with all my vendors. I will point out that Liriodendron allows you to move your date once with no charge, so I am thankful that they accommodated us when a lot of other venues would have charged us a fee for changing our date.

When we arrived on wedding day, our caterer and coordinator waiting outside. We were told that the "Liriodendron lady" working our event wouldn't let anyone inside until she arrived. There are two Liriodendron ladies, one that is more lenient and one that isn't. Well, if you're booking here, you might want to make sure you know which one is working at your wedding! The woman working at ours was a bit intrusive, telling my bridesmaids that they were holding their bouquets too low, telling me how I should pose, etc. On the day I was a bit too frazzled to remark on it, but the more I thought about it, the more it annoyed me! We booked the venue, not a venue coordinator. Her job as I understood was it to ensure that no one did harm to the mansion. She did stay upstairs and out of the way for most of the reception, but she did cause me some stress before the ceremony started.

Now that I've mentioned the negatives, I will talk about the positives. The space is gorgeous, and has many wonderful spots for photos both inside the mansion and on the grounds. On our wedding day it rained, so we had our ceremony on the gorgeous grounds and our reception inside. The mansion is beautiful, so if you need to go with a rain plan, you'll still have gorgeous photographs.

The venue is also reasonably priced for the area. The other nearby venues of note are all quite a bit more than Liriodendron, and in my opinion lack the charm that Liriodendron offers. This is especially true if you're willing to get married in an "off" month or if you're getting married on a Friday or Sunday. They do have restrictions, but none that bothered us in the least. They have an approved caterer list. Most brides go with Dean & Brown. We did and didn't regret it in the least. They know the space and offer wonderful service and a real value.

You really do have run of most of the mansion, and our guests loved having space to roam around. If you're looking for a private venue, you've found it. We had about 35 guests, so the mansion was perfect for us. Everyone had more than enough room, and we didn't feel like we had a lot of empty space because how the mansion is broken up. I would advise against the mansion if you're having more than 85 guests, otherwise it might feel a bit cramped. Another big reason I booked there was because they offer their own rentals at a very reasonable price. We had my beloved Chivari chairs at our reception for a fraction of what they would have cost at a traditional rental company.

I would recommend Liriodendron to other area brides, and I am glad we had our wedding there. But I felt I had to be true in my review and state that they were the vendor that caused me the most stress throughout the planning and on the day. In all truthfulness that stress wasn't THAT much compared to what I've seen other brides go through, but it was stress none the less!

The Liriodendron was such a beautiful site! We are still so happy that we picked the Lirio as our venue. The layout allowed people to mingle without having to shout over the loud music, and it allowed people to dance without feeling like all eyes were on them. Such a pretty site!

The Liriodendron is a hidden gem if you are looking to get married in/around Baltimore. Our guests were truly wowed by the beauty of this location and many of them - even the ones from Harford County - had no idea it was tucked away there. The venue is beautiful inside and out, with multiple setup options for both your ceremony and reception (gardens, fireplaces, a grand staircase, an outdoor patio covered by wisteria vines…the list goes on), which means there are also lots of easy options for backup plans (no need for a tent) should the weather not cooperate with your Plan A. It is handicap accessible for any guests who might require it, and on-site parking is ample (and free!). The rates are incredibly reasonable (downright cheap for this area!) for what you get with options for lots of price points, and chairs and tables are included in the rental price. The people at the Liriodendron are very nice and professional - they are accommodating to a point (they let us have a moon bounce, and let us play a little fast and loose with delivery times, which was very helpful. We were also allowed to leave some items there the night before the wedding), but it is a historic property, so there are some things they just can’t budge on, which was not an issue for us. (No candles/open flame - we used LED candles and it was fine, and no throwing anything at the ceremony - no flower petals, rice, confetti, etc. - just use bubbles or something.) We really enjoyed working with Glenda, the manager, and the others we met there. You do have to choose from their list of caterers, and they have a great relationship with Dean & Brown for a good reason - if you choose the Lirio, we recommend working with D&B, as the two businesses are great together and will take good care of you. We had a Friday wedding, which we definitely recommend as you will be the only wedding that day, allowing you a lot of flexibility on time and setup. I honestly think everyone should get married here!

Gorgeous site, with all the anmentities you could ask for in a venue. Slightly restrictive hours of operation and not very good at returning phone calls, though the caterer knew the answer to most questions. Definitely recommend for the atmosphere and a beautiful outdoor ceremony/reception site.

    Improvements Need to Be Made

The Lidiodendron is a beautiful old summer home with a cool history. I love the grounds and the mansion. However my experience with it as a wedding venue left me unsatisfied. On the day of my wedding, a sprinkler was on and in full view during the ceremony. After the ceremony, I realized a couple of brightly-colored hoses were laying out on the ground by the portico for everyone to see. I had to ask for them to be removed. The front of the house has an ivy covered walkway which was covered in dead leaves that I had to ask to be cleaned. Otherwise it was okay but these things made me upset because they could have been caught with a simple walkthrough by the management.

    Liriodendron's reply:

Hello Kyle, and congratulations on your marriage! We appreciate you choosing the Liriodendron for your special day. We apologize for the glitches that you experienced; these were oversights on our part which are not typical. We intend to have our mansion and grounds in top shape and ready for our guests, but obviously on that day we did not meet our usual high standards, We did address and take care of these issues right away. We will strive to make sure we do not have these situations in the future. Best wishes to you both!

I loved the Lirio. We wanted to make sure we found a nonprofit site for our wedding, and this gorgeous historic property was great for that. It was a good price to rent too (and supposedly tax deductible?), which freed up our budget for other things. It's absolutely breathtaking for photographs, with tons of outdoor space, a beautiful Gatsby-like facade, a gorgeous staircase that makes for dramatic entrances, a small bridal suite with a private bathroom, and plenty of space for outdoor dinner seating. They do make you choose from only 7 approved caterers, but Dean & Brown is on there, so we were fine with that (they were the best!). Our only complaints are about inflexibility on the part of the property "guardians" ... We were a little irritated that they refused to allow us on the property before 5:30pm, and just simply won't unlock the door, even if there's no one using the house or no tours planned. This means all the set-up, prep, and pre-wedding photos had to be done in a SUPER FAST RUSH for our 7pm wedding, which I feel in retrospect was too late to start a party, and made for a quick night that felt smushed together. But maybe that's all weddings! The house host was there to keep watch, but made herself scarce all night except for a few smiles and waves, which was welcome. The mosquitoes (in early June) were negligible despite the thick woods behind the lawn, and there were plenty of spaces for our 100 guests to move around freely. However, at the end of the night, the woman in charge of locking up asked our DJ to cut the music 15 minutes early, which we hadn't been informed of before, so we had to screech to a halt in order to squeeze in our last dance. We also had to have EVERYTHING out of the house by midnight, so there was a mad dash to clean up all our decorations and throw them in the back of a car. All in all, a little more flexibility on the part of the property watchers would increase the value of the place, but if you're alright playing within those

My husband and I thought the Lirio was absolutely beautiful and very reasonably priced. We loved the site for our wedding, but we had times where we felt the "customer service" was poor. We were off put several times during the planning of the wedding with feeling like we were treated rudely and as if the Lirio was doing us the favor of letting us have the wedding there, have meetings there, etc, versus doing the best to make our wedding planning go smoothly. We really did love the venue, but felt that the way we were spoken to was strange and rude at times. I would not hesitate to recommend the Lirio in terms of a setting for a beautiful wedding, but I would hope that the coordinate there considers approaching couples more gingerly.

When we saw the Liriodendron, we knew this was it. Off season pricing was very reasonable.

The good: the Lirio is beautiful. Even before everything was green and leafy, it was still gorgeous. A few plants had color and made for great photo backdrops. We had perfect weather, and an outdoor ceremony. Our reception was about the limit for size at 105 people plus vendors and catering staff (about 120 total) for a cocktail style service. The rooms provided ample space for people to collect, but allowed them to be broken up. We had a live band in the piano room and it worked well, without it being too loud in the rest of the building.

The bad: The director changed after booking, causing communication issues. To have an earlier than 7pm ceremony, we booked both the day's time slots (10:30-5, 5:30-Midnight), though that didn't entitle us to the whole day, just an extension of the evening slot. Dorothy, the old director, said that wasn't how it worked. Her replacement, Glenda, who we discovered by phone after a few failed email contacts, seemed better, but was similar about times. At our meet with her, we needed to move the times about an hour earlier to align with the catering schedule. We modified the contract, initialling specific times. 2-5 setup, 5-10 the event, and 10-11 cleanup. THE DAY OF THE WEDDING at about 3pm Glenda tells the band (not me) to end at 9pm instead of 9:30. When I ask why, she says we are only contracted for 8.5 hours (never signed anything as such), and ending at 9:30 would be too late. After about 20 mins of arguing in her office reviewing the specifically signed contract, she says that they "are getting ripped off", but will accommodate the time. Irony, with our ending time of 9:30 and an hour for cleanup, it was exactly 8.5 hours. Very unprofessional in my opinion. The contract should have been honored without issue or addressed long before then! 5 stars for the location, the rest is for staff issues.

The grounds are absolutely beautiful! We are so thrilled we had our wedding here.HOWEVER.. The stars are for the director of the venue. When we were considering the Lirio we were told by numerous people that the director was very difficult to work with. We did not have our reception onsite. We paid full retail price to use the site for 4 hours (got ready there and then took pictures after ceremony) and only had 25 guests. We had to dispute with the director about them providing chairs. At first she refused to provide them- until I pushed her and said it was in my contract (thankfully I read the contract in the beginning prior to signing and I had it written in there and her initial it). Def get anything you discuss in writing. My dad and step dad still had to clean and set up the chairs which was so ridiculous for them to have to do this considering it was 25 chairs and they have an onsite director there the day of. Care about your service to your clients much?
Very unclassy of such a classy venue. When you spend $2000 on a venue for such little time that is the least the venue could do. Every vendor we had except Lirio made our whole wedding experience a pleasure and we have raved about them to all our friends. So- beautiful grounds but a refreshing personality would benefit this venue well!

    Liriodendron's reply:

We would like to assure newly engaged couples that the Liriodendron is under new management staff! We strive for the best customer service possible and are as flexible as we can be. All of our current staff are cordial and helpful, and our goal for weddings is to make the experience with us stress-free for our couples and their families! Our rental rates now include all tables and chairs, and the caterers are completely responsible for setting up and breaking down. We invite all to visit our lovely historic site on Sundays during our Open House hours, 1 - 4pm, or we can make an appointment for you to come in for a tour and to learn how we can help make your wedding day wonderful!
