Laney was an amazing officiant for our wedding day! My partner is nonbinary and we are both not religious so we were looking for someone that was inclusive and affirming of both of us and Laney absolutely hit that mark. She was extremely professional and wrote an incredible speech about both of us after getting to know us through our meeting and questionnaire. We also hired her to do a few premartial counseling sessions which were extremely helpful in identifying some areas to discuss that we will definitely use moving forward in our marriage. Those sessions also helped us get to know each other so that on the wedding day she was another familiar face. I really appreciated that she has a clinical psychology background (as I'm a therapist myself) because I think it really helped her understand us and facilitate both counseling and our wedding. I would absolutely recommend her for any engaged couple! -

We found Laney pretty quickly after getting engaged, knowing that we were interested in a secular officiant for our wedding ceremony. Our initial meeting went so well we decided to hire her immediately. She was responsive throughout the whole process and understood exactly what we were looking for. We are really happy with how our ceremony turned out. It was very beautiful. She even stayed beyond her allotted time for the rehearsal because she could tell that I was too flustered to pay attention on the first go round! Everything went very well and I got many comments from guests on how beautiful our ceremony was! -

We couldn't be happier with our decision to choose Laney as our wedding officiant. Laney's approach is extremely collaborative; from understanding our needs and allowing us to work together to craft the perfect wedding narrative, all with a story-based, humanist approach. We had so many guests afterwards tell us that the ceremony was their favorite event of the evening, and so much of that is a direct reflection of the care Laney took to make sure we had the best possible wedding day. We can't recommend Laney enough! -

My partner and I loved having Laney Margolis as our wedding officiant! The two of us are so appreciative of her dedication and thoughtful attention to our big day, and in particular to helping us design our non-religious wedding ceremony. Through a couple of pre-event meetings and a questionnaire about our story as a couple, Laney carefully collected information about our relationship that made it feel like we had known her for much longer than we actually had. She used these details to craft a beautiful script for the ceremony, dedicating time to describing what we each loved about the other and our vision for married life together, and providing a set of vows that felt meaningful and true to us (we were not interested in writing personal vows). We had several family members tell us how special and profound the ceremony was, and we couldn't agree more!
Laney was also very helpful with the non-romantic elements of getting legally married, reminding us about the deadlines for applying for a marriage license and purchasing a certificate, and making sure our witnesses signed on the line immediately after the ceremony ended. She also took care of mailing in the signed license for us so we had one fewer thing on our to-do list after the wedding. Laney is a warm, organized professional with a talent for her work as an officiant, and we would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone. -

We are so happy that we went with Laney as our officiant for our wedding! After just our initial meeting with her, we knew her approach to the ceremony and just who she is as a person would totally jive with us as a couple. Laney offered multiple options for the ceremony and really listened to what we wanted. She allowed us to provide feedback and modified elements of the ceremony based on exactly what we wanted. It was important to us that the ceremony was non-religious and inclusive of everyone. She wrote a beautiful ceremony that included elements of our story, elements that she created, and traditions that were important to us. The ceremony was simple but meaningful and we just loved it! We are so thankful to Laney for her responsiveness, organization, calm demeanor, and perfect words for our ceremony. -

We had an excellent experience with Laney. She was recommended to us by our wedding planner, Premier Party Planners. I really appreciated how great of a listener she was while also making great recommendations for how to make the ceremony as impactful as possible. She asked us thought-provoking questions to have us reflect on our relationship and love and was able to seamlessly integrate our answers into her speech. So many of our guests came up to us after the ceremony to tell us how much they loved the format and how personal/sentimental it was. Logistically, Laney was very responsive and professional. We got married at the Oaks at Salem in Apex, NC on 10/14/23. Within minutes of meeting with Laney for the first time, we knew she was perfect for our wedding. We wanted a simple yet meaningful ceremony, and her script was amazing. She was so attentive to us as a couple, our story, and what we wanted. It stopped raining right before our ceremony, and Laney was flexible with the situation- which we appreciated SO much, as it was our dream ceremony to be outside. 10/10. We were very lucky to work with Laney for our May 27th wedding. She was communicative throughout the whole process and allowed both my husband and I to include our own voices in the development of our ceremony script, which was very precious and important to both of us. Laney felt like the right officiant from the first time we met. She gave us all good vibes. We are no good with words and chose for her to right a story for us. She did fantastic. What she got out of the interviews with us was truly amazing. She made us both cry (in a happy way of course). She shared in our laughter and happiness and seemed to truly understand our love. A ceremony that truly felt like a reflection of us
We are SO happy we chose Laney as our officiant! From the beginning, she was responsive and organized. We decided to go with the scripted option that Laney put together for us and it was perfect. It was meaningful and thoughtful and such a perfect reflection of how we wanted our union represented. She focused on the life we’ve already built together and the continuation with the days we have ahead of us. It was very special and many of our guests complimented the sentiments she incorporated. On top of a wonderful ceremony, Laney walks you through signing the marriage license then sends it in for you once completed. She listened to what we wanted, sent us a script well ahead, and contacted us to make sure we were good with everything. Beautiful ceremony
Laney was so kind and ready to talk to from the first phone call we shared. She wrote beautiful words for our ceremony, and made sure to share the draft well before or wedding day in case we wanted to make any edits - but there was no need to, it was perfection! My husband and I wanted to keep the ceremony very short, as we both don't love standing up being center of attention, and Laney made sure to work with us on that while still making it meaningful. She offers a version where she writes a story about you as a couple, which we did not go with but i can only imagine what dreamy story it would have been! My husband and I eloped with just two witnesses in our friend's backyard. That's the wedding reality in a pandemic - and for us, it was absolutely perfect. Laney truly leaned into the intimacy and privacy of our tiny ceremony. She gets to what marriage is really about, stripping away all the trappings of what we think of as a wedding. Her script is beautiful and meaningful, no pomp and circumstance, just reverent commitment. That's exactly what we wanted. We opted to use the vows Laney wrote because they spoke to exactly what we wanted to promise each other. We added a section before the vows where we said some remarks to each other that we wrote. Laney was extremely helpful and responsive as we finalized the script together.
Her presence is very calming and centering. As Laney spoke, the world melted away and it was just my husband and I locking eyes, listening to Laney's voice. That's a powerful thing -- and Laney's vibe helps foster that magic.
If you, too, care about a meaningful, personal ceremony more than anything else, I highly recommend Laney. She'd be a fabulous choice for any secular commitment, but I think her superpowers really shine in the context of an intimate ceremony or elopement.Laney Margolis, Humanist Celebrant's reply:

Laney married my partner and I for our backyard wedding ceremony. Our plans had changed due to covid-19 and it worked out in our favor because Laney was available for this wedding date! Laney was very easy to communicate with over Wedding Wire messaging. She incorporated aspects into our ceremony that were meaningful to us as a couple. My partner and I are a mix of non-religious and spiritual and the vows she offered during our ceremony fit our needs perfectly! Laney Margolis was an absolutely incredible officiant. We were planning our wedding from out of the country so we needed a professional who could work with us mostly through e-mail and Laney rose to that occasion flawlessly. She was always quick to respond to our e-mails and arranged video meetings via Skype so we could all get to know each other before meeting in person. She was also refreshingly honest; if we had an idea that she didn't feel would work out she would speak up and offer us alternatives. At the same time, however, she was very open to any suggestions we would bring up and really did everything she could to cater the wedding ceremony to meet our wishes. We cannot recommend Laney highly enough. -

Due to COVID-19, we had to cancel our original wedding plans, but we were determined to still get married! We had already hired Laney as our officiant, but we asked her with only a week to prepare if she could perform our ceremony at a last-minute backyard wedding in a town an hour away from her. She was more than happy to do it, and we were amazed by the beautiful ceremony script she created for us in such a short amount of time! She made our last-minute wedding feel incredibly personal and special, and we are so grateful for her.

My fiance and I had a special situation since he is of Christian faith and I am Agnostic so finding the perfect Officiant proved to be more difficult that we had planned. We wanted someone who we both connected with that would make the ceremony feel personal without leaning toward one any one belief system or another. My fiance was the one who came across Laney and after our first meeting I knew she was the perfect fit! Laney took into account all of the things that my fiance and I wanted to include in our ceremony as well as elements we didn't want to have. She didn't push us into anything that we didn't want and was so supportive throughout the whole process. One the actual wedding day, she was prompt, professional, and comforting. She also conducted the ceremony perfectly and helped my fiance and I through it step by step because we were both teary eyed and fumbling with nerves, emotions and excitement. Working with Laney was one of the best decisions we could have ever made while planning the wedding. We originally had a different officiant but my (then fiance) was conflicted about doing a religious ceremony, so he changed his mind; and we found ourselves back on square one with only a few months to go before the wedding. After searching online, he found Laney and had a good feeling about her, which proved to be right. After an initial phone conversation, we met up with her and clicked instantly. She understood where he was coming from and when he had the "Aha!" look on his face, it made me really happy to see that someone could articulate exactly what he was trying to say. She made the effort to get to know us and our family situations, all without judgment, but with so much care. She's personable, professional, eloquent, and it resulted in our ceremony feeling like "us" -- like a friend we knew for years had written it. She was so patient with me while dealing with some unfortunate circumstances on my end, and sent us gentle follow-up reminders that also had reassuring and uplifting messages. These seemed to find us in our inbox when we needed them most. I wish we had the chance to work with her for a longer period of time. Laney made our wedding day amazing!
My husband and I used Laney for our ceremony and were beyond pleased with her and the way she conducted our ceremony!She made sure the ceremony was authentic to us and our spirituality. Neither of us are religious, yet we are very spiritual which is why we went with Laney. She is very concise and open to suggestions and ideas you may have to add to the ceremony. Nontraditional wedding officiant
We were looking for someone to provide a simple yet touching ceremony for our wedding without religious additions and respecting our choice of day on Friday the 13th. My husband and I came across Laneys profile and were attacted to her non-secular profile and the option to create a "Love Story." The day went wonderful, we had a lot of fun and Laney worked hard to add everything we wanted and make sure the day was as it had been on paper. I was happy with our choice and love how everything turned out. -

Laney is cheerful, smart, compassionate, no-nonsense and clearly cut out for her work as a Humanist Celebrant. She met with us in person to get to know us, hear our story of how we met and how our relationship developed, and came up with a wonderful script that we barely changed. Our wedding ceremony was extraordinary because it was bilingual (with Spanish translation provided by my husband, and Spanish portions recited by the Best Man). We also had two deaf guests and an ASL interpreter, so our ceremony was more complex than usual. Laney took care of the format, English-language scripts, and helped us figure out how to make the ceremony work seamlessly during rehearsal and the ceremony itself. She was responsive via email and her fees are reasonable. You can include religious and spiritual elements in your vows, but Laney will not include religious texts or references in the parts she will read.
