We had the pleasure of having our engagement shoot, welcome party, and wedding day captured with Leah behind the lens and we could not be more thrilled with our decision! Leah is an unbelievably talented artist to her core. She has an innate propensity for storytelling and capturing a moment in time in such a beautiful way. Everything she does is truly heirloom quality.
We had a lengthy wishlist when it came to photography: we cared deeply about interesting architecture, space, and light, we wanted artistic and editorial-style portraits while also having candid family and guest moments captured, and we wanted the movement, ambiance, and emotion of our day to be captured through a photographic medium. Throughout my search, Leah’s work really jumped off the screen to me for all of those reasons. When I first chatted with her, I shared what my husband and I wanted our wedding to feel like and what the inspiration was for our vision. Wedding weekend finally arrived a full 19 months after our initial conversation, and Leah captured the feeling to perfection.
Throughout her planning process, Leah provided helpful questionnaires and other tools to really get the sense of our collective style as a couple and make sure she was aware of elements and moments most important to us on our wedding day. I had zero doubt in my mind when I woke up on our wedding day that Leah was going to cover everything we were looking for and then some, so I was able to completely let go of the mental timeline and be present with my loved ones. We had such peace of mind knowing we were in the best hands because she really knew and understood us. She brought such a warm and welcoming energy to our day.
We knew Leah was a savvy veteran but her depth of experience really shined the day of. She is masterful at directing shots, creating beautiful ideas on the fly, and on top of her artistry, is incredibly organized and intentional. We finished pre-ceremony family and couple portraits with 20+ minutes left to spare (when does that ever happen on a wedding day?!) so we were able to shoot additional locations pre-ceremony and most importantly, relax and enjoy each other.
When we received our gallery, we were completely blown away. Leah’s intuition as an artist is unmatched. She cultivated the perfect blend of artful portraits and candid moments. She somehow captured the intangible emotions and ambiance we felt in the room - our photos feel very much alive. Our guests were also so lovingly captured and we had so much fun sharing those shots with them. She didn’t miss a single element that we had shared was important to us. It was nearly impossible to choose favorites to print and share. Her work is truly art, worthy of being framed and hung all over our home. We will treasure these photos forever! -

Leah Hewitt is simply extraordinary! She was our wedding photographer for our special day, and we couldn’t have asked for a more talented, professional, and personable artist to capture such meaningful moments. From start to finish, Leah went above and beyond, and the results were nothing short of spectacular.
Our wedding reception took place in the stunning Baltimore Museum of Art, utilizing both the Fox Court and the Antioch Court. These spaces are gorgeous in their own right, but Leah’s photography truly brought them to life. She expertly captured the beauty of the venue, ensuring every detail—like the warm lighting, intricate architecture, and overall atmosphere—was preserved in her photos. Her ability to highlight not just the space, but also the love and joy of the event, is remarkable.
Leah didn’t just photograph the reception. She followed us earlier in the day at our home, where everyone was getting ready. Those candid moments—our family and friends bustling about, the hair stylist and makeup artist working their magic, and the quiet, happy anticipation in the air—were all perfectly documented. Every time we look at these photos, we’re transported back to the laughter, excitement, and warmth of that morning.
One of the standout aspects of Leah’s work is her ability to balance posed and candid photography so beautifully. On the front steps of the museum, she directed us and our family members with ease and grace, ensuring everyone looked their best while also keeping the mood relaxed and joyful. At the same time, she had an uncanny knack for capturing those fleeting, unscripted moments: the laughter between friends, the tears of joy, and the way our adult children and their partners connected with each other and with us throughout the day.
The final collection of photos is nothing short of a treasure. Leah’s work isn’t just photography—it’s storytelling. Looking at the pictures, we’re reminded not only of the major events of the day but also of the smaller, quieter moments that made it so special. From the love and closeness of our family to the joy and celebration among our guests, Leah managed to encapsulate it all.
Beyond her technical skill, Leah is a pleasure to work with. She’s incredibly professional, organized, and attentive to detail. She listened to what we wanted and also brought her own creative vision, which elevated the entire experience. She has an easygoing, friendly demeanor that made everyone feel comfortable, which is so important on a day that can feel hectic and emotional.
We’re so grateful to have worked with Leah Hewitt. Her photos will forever remind us of the love, happiness, and togetherness we felt on our wedding day. Leah and her team are absolutely incredible! The photos they produce are immaculate. This is due to not only their immense talent at photography but also their ability to make their subjects feel completely at ease. I am so happy we decided to hire Leah and her team because the photos we received are beyond our wildest dreams and Leah's assistance throughout our engagement and on the wedding day allowed us to fully enjoy ourselves without reservation. Unreal is the only way I can describe our engagement and wedding photos. We chose Leah because she immediately put us at ease (via Skype-- no less!) with her professionalism and friendliness. She was the first and best decision we made in the planning process. Leah made us feel comfortable in front of the camera, while also gently directing us. She also somehow made our dog look good in every photo. My many questions were met with a prompt and calming response. As many others have shared, her photos are a work of art. She has the perfect blend of creativity and artistry, while also giving you some of the 'traditional' wedding photos your parents and grandparents expect. We can't thank Leah enough for her work, vision, and expertise which shines through in each of our photos.

Kelsey Sent on 03/19/2018I decided that I wanted to work with Leah on my wedding before I was even engaged-- that's how much of a legend she is. While working for an event planner a few years out of college, I noticed Leah's work and promised myself that when it came time for me to get married...Leah would be a part of the equation. Fast-forward a few years and Leah was the 4th phone call I made after the proposal (after mom and dad of course!). In true Leah fashion she packed up her gear and met us in Paris for our engagement shoot two weeks after I contacted her. The images were some of the most beautiful I have ever seen. Leah also did a boudoir shoot for me (gift for husband) and our rehearsal dinner and wedding in Sonoma. It's hard to articulate how much she means to us in a quick review-- but know that she exceeded every expectation we had and has become a lifelong confidant in the process. I have already asked her to shoot our upcoming maternity pictures and newborn shots because I know she will knock it out of the park again. She gets that you want something different. She gets that you can't explain what that is. I trust her to chronicle the rest of my life! Every second of our time together during wedding planning and other shoots was positive-- her energy is infectious and she captures moments that you don't even realize existed until you see them through her lens. She turned our images around in one week and made selecting a holiday card image near impossible. Leah is the most talented photographer I have ever seen and I feel so lucky to have worked with her. Hire her! You'll never look back.

I met and saw Leah’s work through a friend and fell in love with her utter raw beauty she puts into her art work. Every photo she took of my wedding was described by everyone as an “art piece” they felt they would see in a magazine. We were beyond ecstatic and were happy with her fast turn around time. Misty Sent on 07/12/2012To say that Leah is talented is truly an understatement. She not only has a technical appreciation for her work, but her craft is very artistic.
I felt incredibly comfortable and confident in Leah's capabilities within the first few minutes of meeting her. My fiance met her for the first time when we had our engagement photos, which we were both naturally nervous about. Leah's fun and laid back attitude put us at ease immediately and we had a blast. The pictures came out beautifully. The range of emotions and moods that she caught in an hour was stunning.
On our wedding day, Leah was early and with her fantastic second shooter, Nat. They captured every single detail -- every tiny aspect about the day was beautifully captured. We did not take a lot of formal shots, but Leah knew who the close family members were and captured some priceless shots of our parents, grandparents and siblings. They were both there until the bitter end, missing no detail along the way.
Did I mention the turn-around time? We received our pictures faster than anyone I have ever spoken to!
If it sounds like I'm cheerleading for Leah, it's because I can't imagine a better perspective on our day. For the most important day of our lives, I'm so happy we chose L. Hewitt Photography, and I would absolutely recommend to anyone. -

We found Leah through Instagram, and immediately fell in love with her work. I was looking for someone who could capture both stunning documentary-style moments and beautiful classic portraits, and her portfolio showed me she could do both effortlessly.
My husband and I are not natural in front of a camera, and we usually look stiff and awkward in photos. But when working with Leah, the experience was completely different. Before our engagement shoot started, she sat down with us at the cafe we'd chosen as our backdrop and just talked with us over coffee. She took the time to get to know us and make us feel at ease, which made all the difference. When we finally started taking photos, we actually looked like ourselves—genuinely happy, not forcing anything.
On the wedding day itself, Leah helped keep everything stress-free when it came to photos. The group portraits were especially impressive! I've been to weddings where that part drags on forever and everyone gets restless, but Leah knew exactly how to direct people and keep things moving. It was over before we knew it.
What I appreciated most was her flexibility. She asked us upfront what we envisioned, and since we loved everything in her portfolio, we told her to go for it. She delivered an incredible mix of timeless portraits, dramatic shots, and lively candids. Whatever your style or vision, she can definitely make it happen.
Looking at our photos now feels like reliving the entire day from different perspectives, many of which we didn't get to experience ourselves. The emotions and energy of the day come through in every image, and we couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. We'd recommend Leah without hesitation to anyone looking for a wedding photographer. -

Leah. Leah. Leah. She’s a magician.
My fiancé and I looked through her work, got on a call with her, and booked her services before we even got engaged!
We have had our proposal shoot and engagement shoot with her thus far, and each time she has knocked it out of the park. You’ll go into the sessions with her and her energy just makes you ease into a comfortable place to get photographed. Most of us aren’t used to being photographed, so this is very very important and let’s you take more natural photos instead of unnaturally posed ones.
She also spent a lot of time listening to our vision and stylistic preferences and worked with us to get the kind of shots we were aiming for.
Her editing is flawless and she’s been on time in delivering photos both times.
Needless to say, I have full confidence that our henna night and wedding photos will come out great! Very excited for that in September. -

Heidi Sent on 09/10/2010I used Leah for my engagement photo session, my wedding photographer was not available at the time, and I had a great idea and needed a photographer fairly quickly. Leah was extremely responsive through email and was pleasant to work with. But once we received our photos back in an astonishing quick turn around of less than 12 hours both my husband and I were less than pleased. This is what we found to be wrong with our photos once we had a professional review our pictures: There were blown highlights on over HALF the photos (that is the white part of the photo that has no detail due to the "photographer" overexposing that part of the photos), and the terrible composition of the photos ( She hid us BEHIND tree bushes for our engagement photos!!!) She tries to compensate for plain mundane photos by over photoshopping ever single photograph and over saturating them. If you notice in many of her group shots under the Hirsch gallery the back ground is all blow out white that reason you can't see the background is because she doesn't know how to set her exposure and blows out the photo. Needles to say after many emails back and forth I was able to receive a 50% refund of the session fee, to say the least this was after she wanted to offer a 10% refund. Please beware I would hate for the most important day of your life to be ruined by the pictures!!!! She is correct and offered to do a re-shoot I said that would be fine and that i would like my pictures taken with our dogs in Old Town Alexandria because thats were we live, she was not up for driving all that way and wanted to meet at so Rose Garden more convenient to her, our dogs were not allowed and personally if I am the client, and you advertise that you are a Washington DC photographer and you live in Baltimore and are unwilling to travel for your clients why would anyone want to do a re-shoot.
