We hired DeGroot Film Co. for our wedding in Baileys Harbor, WI on June 4, 2022. Katie and Devin were amazing to work with and the wedding photos and videos they delivered are incredible beyond words. We were extremely impressed with their portfolio and from our first video call, we felt their excitement for us and their work. They traveled for hours (with their baby, who was only a few months old at the time!) to take our engagement photos in negative 19 degree weather. We had never taken professional photos before, and Katie’s coaching helped us feel natural and have fun during our shoot. The portal and planning documents they provided were easy to use and helped us both plan for the wedding day and keep everyone organized on the day of the wedding. The team was extremely personable and helped everyone feel comfortable in front of the camera while simultaneously being assertive and keeping us on schedule, ensuring we got every shot we wanted. Our wedding album and videos are stunning. Looking through our photo album I can’t believe how many little moments they captured; our personalities and love shine through in every photo, and we love seeing all the happy moments our guests experienced. During our wedding many guests commented on how professional and organized the DeGroot Film Co. team was - they were unobtrusive yet extremely thorough. The video editing is done perfectly and we look forward to reliving this day over and over through their beautiful work. Our wedding day was a dream, and we’re in awe of how beautifully DeGroot Film Co. captured every moment. If you’re not hiring DeGroot Film Co., you’re doing something wrong.DeGroot Film's reply:

My husband and I decided last minute to hire a videographer for our wedding after some important friends and family members were unable to attend our wedding in person. Our wedding planner reached out to her connections to see if anyone was available - and thankfully Katie from DeGroot Film Co responded that they could make a last minute booking work! Katie and Hannah filmed our day. Based on some of the sneak peeks, I can't wait to see the final product!! I was blown away. It is going to be so special to share the video coverage with our families and friends; as well as for us to have forever as a couple. Katie and Hannah were friendly and professional; they worked well with our existing photography team, despite being thrown into the mix just a few days before. They gave us clear directions with posing, and since we aren't natural supermodels, this was super helpful. I can't tell them enough how much it meant to me that they were there with us to document the best day of our lives.DeGroot Film's reply:

Katie and Devin left us speechless, in the very best possible way. Capturing our wedding celebration with both film and photo, we felt that they were the biggest blessing of our day. They captured the love, joy, laughter, emotion, and happiness of our day. Their work is flawless, and uses natural light to highlight the best features and locations. The photography is romantic, whimsical, natural, sexy, and sultry. Looking at our photos, we feel like a million bucks! Most of all, we can SEE our love. We know that these moments will last a life time.
When it comes to video, it was by far the most valuable part of our day. To hear each other's voices, see what happened behind the scenes, and to watch our loved ones celebrate, there just are no words. The video will live with us when we are old and our memories start to fade. It will be our personal vessel to travel back in time and fall in love all over again. Having our parents' voices on the video warms our hearts knowing we will always be able to hear and see them. If you're a bride and you think you can't afford videography- my best advice: MAKE. IT. HAPPEN. It's worth every penny and you won't regret it.
Our experience before the wedding was just as wonderful as the day of. Katie is top notch with communication. She is organized and has great tips on how to have a wedding day run smoothly (isn't that what we all want?). Her and Devin were professional, timely, fun, and helped us 'look naturally romantic' - something we giggle about because we are two people NOT used to PDA or an 'audience' while feeling lovey-dovey.
Katie and Devin, I could write a novel. We appreciate you, we love you and we will forever and always sing your praises to all couples!

Couldn’t recommend Katie + Devin DeGroot enough. My fiance (now husband) surprised me and found Katie to shoot our surprise engagement and the photos captured how we were feeling and the excitement of our whole family. She was so professional (and hid in plain site so well!), we knew it was a no-brainer to ask her to shoot our engagement + wedding. We aren’t used to having our photo taken but Katie made us feel comfortable and went with the flow, even when our dog was being crazy :) Leading up to the wedding, the communication from the DeGroot team was clear and friendly. The online portal was easy to navigate with our invoices, contracts, and even Questionnaires that allowed us to organize which photos we wanted / where, etc.
Due to COVID, we had to adjust our wedding twice: once with moving the date and once with the location to an entirely different city. I was fearful to tell our vendors but Katie couldn't have handled the switch any better than she did. This put us at ease and gave us one less thing to worry about. She worked with our Wedding Coordinator to finalize details, times, etc.. Day of, Katie + Devin were a dream team. Working with so many personalities of our friends and family is no easy feat but they worked as if they could read my mind. Their associate was professional and a great sport, working in the cold November air to shoot photos after the ceremony! They knew when /where to be and how to capture the day flawlessly and were a great team to work with!
Thank you, thank you, thank you DeGroot team! 110% recommended!

I can not say enough good things about DeGroot. We originally did not intend to hire a videographer, but when Covid hit we had to cut down our guest list significantly and we really wanted to be able to share a recap of the day with those who couldn't attend. We reached out to DeGroot the week before our wedding and they were completely on board to help us out! Devin was so amazing on the day off. He made us feel really comfortable and he was super fun to shoot with. He went the extra mile to capture breathtaking video for us and even convinced the venue to let us up on the rooftop after the ceremony. Having such a beautifully crafted video to look back on and share with those who couldn't be there is a gift I could never thank DeGroot enough for. I highly recommended them.DeGroot Film's reply:

We will start off by saying, we were one of the unfortunate couples who had a wedding scheduled when suddenly COVID-19, a global pandemic, hit. Our original plan was to elope in Santorini, Greece in May 2020. Our agreement with DeGroot was to pay for their flights to come and film our small ceremony. We paid in full, but unfortunately had to reschedule our trip due to travel restrictions from the U.S. to Greece. We notified DeGroot and stated that we needed to reschedule. Unfortunately, they were not going to be available from June to September due them expecting a child. Also unfortunately, we could not afford to push our wedding out beyond September 2020 as my wife’s Dad was battling terminal cancer and likely would not make it that long. DeGroot’s contract stated that the payments we made were not refundable, but that they would apply our payments to future services within one year of the original date (which really was 8 months since they weren’t available for June through September). Since we weren’t going to be able to push our wedding out, we had hoped there was some way they could work with us. We had obviously asked if there was a way we could be refunded (full or even partial because we understand having a non-refundable deposit for these reasons), and they stated that their contract protected them from situations like this. Fair enough. So, we then asked if they could help us find someone that could fill in for them since they were unavailable, but they declined this request as well. It seemed a reasonable request as our photographer did this exact thing for us, no questions asked. It also stated in DeGroot’s contract that if they are unavailable due to illness, they could find a replacement. However, since they were not technically “ill,” they weren’t obligated to help. They claimed they were trying to “work with us,” but their idea of working with us was clarifying their contract after each of our requests. Our other frustration is that because of COVID-19, the majority of airlines were issuing full refunds, or at least travel vouchers for future trips. So essentially, they would be able to use our funds for a future wedding event (since they advertise that they shoot destination weddings), or they could even use our funds for personal travel. This didn’t feel right to us. We understand that COVID-19 is not only affecting brides and grooms, but small businesses as well. All we asked was for them to work with us, and we didn’t feel they made ANY effort to accommodate. I’ll also add that every other vendor that we booked for our wedding was extremely helpful and accommodating, so we don’t feel we were asking too much.
The cherry on top to all of this was one of their emails to us stating, “We have multiple couples in the same, or worse, positions with multiple vendors involved, some not even offering any sort of solution.” This really made us feel like we were just another number and that they didn’t care. At the end of the day, we just wanted to feel like they were willing to try, and we NEVER got that feeling. They still have our funds, and we have absolutely zero desire to use their services based on how we feel we’ve been treated.
I would not recommend their services to anyone, especially in these times of uncertainty. DO NOT book with DeGroot Film Co.DeGroot Film's reply:
Cody, thank you for your review. We are truly so sorry that you feel this way! We wanted nothing more than to work with you guys & be able to capture your day, wherever/whenever it may be. We were so beyond excited to work with you both whether it was your elopement in Greece, or your at home celebration!
When you contacted us about considering rescheduling, we let you know right away how our contract/policy works and that we were unavailable to travel June through August since we were expecting our first baby in July (which was planned intentionally when we got pregnant to be after your elopement). Unfortunately, you guys still chose a reschedule date in July, knowing how our policy works and knowing we were unavailable.
Since you booked a special package that only covered our flights to Greece, it didn’t make sense, nor was it fair to ask us to pay for someone else to come film your wedding, as that would be all out of pocket costs for us at more than what you paid us. Our refund & reschedule policy was known and agreed upon when you signed the contract back in 2019. It allows you to use all funds paid towards rescheduling a new date within one year of the original date, as long as we are available. We were more than happy to reschedule your date when we were available, we offered that as well as working with you if you did a wedding here in Wisconsin or any other event that you wanted to use our services for. We tried to be as generous as possible, while also still following our contract to be fair to all of our couples.
We never heard back from you but rather from our payment processing company stating that you filed a dispute with your bank for your payment to us. They took that money out of our account and held it for nearly 3 months before a decision was made, siding with our contract/policy.
We sincerely wish that we could have worked something out and we definitely tried as much as reasonably possible. We are sad for you that you still couldn’t go to Greece in July since COVID is still very real and still affecting us all.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to come to a solution so that we can still serve you, we are honestly more than happy to work something out within reasonable measures.
