Fun, Creative, Flexible, and Incredibly Talented

We looked at a lot of photographers for our wedding. Kathy was recommended through our planner, and we went with her because we felt like her energy and personality were what we were looking for...not to mention her incredible talent for photography! From early planning to our engagement shoot and finally through the wedding and final delivery of photos, we were blown away by her creativity, talent, and the FUN that she brings to taking pictures (particularly as we're more camera-shy). Kathy will not only make the experience an absolute blast (definitely recommend grabbing drinks with her and hearing about all her amazing stories), but she's full of ideas, captures the personality of her subjects, and just generally does a fantastic job and delivers a final product you will marvel over. A wonderful photographer and person

Kathy is amazing!!! We reached out to her when our original photographer bailed on us as we tried to switch gears to an elopement and postpone our original wedding due to Covid. Kathy is so friendly and immediately put us at ease. She helped us organize our elopement and scout locations in DC. She also included an engagement shoot in Ellicott City (where my husband and I met) when she found out we never had one. Her demeanor, kindness, and talent are so wonderful that we also booked her for our postponed wedding this past weekend. She helped calm my nerves when I was freaking out due to traffic from the Secret Service closing streets as we were returning from first look portraits (typical DC), quickly took over in making sure everything ran smoothly and on schedule, and corralled both our families. Not to mention her amazing photography skills. She did so much more than we ever thought possible, including killing a stink bug in my bouquet. We love Kathy so much and cannot wait to work with her again in the future!

Kathy is the BEST!

Kathy, more than any one of our other vendors, went well above and beyond what I would expect from a photographer. We didn't have a formal wedding planner/coordinator, so she helped us come up with our whole day schedule. When COVID hit, Kathy proactively reached out to ask how we were doing and helped us re-plan the wedding following a year-long postponement. She was helpful the entire way through, and our photographs are INCREDIBLE. She was so friendly during the wedding, yet completely un-intrusive. She managed to capture activities all around the house the entire day. We're so grateful for Kathy's help through all of it.

Book Now! Best Photographer You Will Ever Meet

If you want to hire the best photographer that you’ll ever meet in your life, LOOK NO FURTHER!!! Kathy is the best there is. She will capture every special moment and you will have the most jaw-dropping photos that your family and friends will ogle for years to come. We met Kathy pre-COVID over a beer and knew immediately that she was our photographer when she got excited about our idea to do a wedding photo shoot for our cats. What I love about Kathy’s photos is that they are psoded just enough to make you look your best but not so posed that you look fake, not yourself, or are in cheesy “prom like” poses that make you look like every other couple out there. For our engagement shoot, we had the idea to travel around DC eating our favorite foods while she photographed it, and she loved the idea. We got up extra early to do sunrise pictures on the National Mall that came out spectacularly. I got comments from family, friends, even near strangers saying how incredible our engagement and wedding photos were, even from people who said “I normally don’t like people’s engagement photos, but I loved yours!” When our wedding had to change due to COVID, Kathy was responsive, accommodating and so easy to work with that we never had to worry. She did a walkthrough of our new venue and even made fun suggestions like a bubble gun exit and popping mini bottles of champagne for a photo op. Kathy is a delightful magician of a photographer

Cannot say enough good things about Kathy!!! We stumbled across Kathy's photography when we were browsing wedding venues, and though she was a bit outside the price range we had hoped for we fell in love with her work...and we're so grateful we bit the bullet on price! We had originally scheduled our wedding for June 2020, but because of COVID changed it to a small family-only backyard event in September 2020. Kathy was phenomenal every step of the way. She took the time to get to know us both as individuals and as a couple well before the wedding, was immensely supportive as COVID upended our initial plans, and was flexible to change her timeline as we adjusted our date and run-of-show. We didn't have a wedding planner, but Kathy has so much experience with weddings and offers such great advice that we felt like we did. The day of the event she made us feel safe (even despite the pandemic), relaxed, and happy. She knocked our family photos out and focused in on the fun stuff—and doing a photo shoot with Kathy really is fun! She makes you laugh while she's shooting you, and she somehow manages to capture all of your best moments without ever feeling invasive. And the photos themselves...wow. Fantastic engagement session!

Kathy is the absolute best! My fiancée and I had our engagement shoot and from the beginning of the process to the end we were in great hands. Kathy did a Zoom call with us when we reached out and immediately put us at ease, getting the details of our story and helping us pick out the best locations (plural!) for our shoot. We took some pics at Gravelly Point Park in DC – the site of one of our first dates – with a classic shot of an airliner flying right over our lovestruck heads. Then we headed to Annapolis for some downtown shots and what we planned would be some sunset shots on the beach. When it suddenly started downpouring, we ended our session and agreed to try to find another day to come back. As we were driving away, the rain slowed and the most beautiful full rainbow appeared in the sunset’s glow. Kathy called us to tell us to turn around and meet her at a cute little waterfront park with an absolutely BEAUTIFUL backdrop of a double rainbow dipping into the bay. She even got down into the water to capture our love from a perfect angle. Our pictures looked like a postcard.

When my fiancée mentioned that the rain stopped us from wearing a couple of the outfits we had brought, Kathy agreed to meet us at another park a few days later for another session. She knew exactly where to get the best pics, and how to use lighting and nature to bring out our best features.

The whole time, Kathy was friendly, fun and just easy to talk to. We enjoyed every minute of our session – and LOVED the pictures when we got them a couple days later. Thanks Kathy!

A m a z i n g

OMG, where can I start? Kathleen was AMAZING! My fiance and I had the first part of our engagement shoot in Washington DC. Right from the start I knew Kathleen would be the PERFECT one to capture our vision for our engagement photos and she most definitely delivered. She has a creative eye for capturing beautiful photos that are truly one of a kind and display her skills in her profession. We went to various locations (which I absolutely loved) and she took her time with us ensuring that we were completely satisfied.
Part 2 was at a Wizards game, we were only given a few minutes to do our session on the court, but she went straight to it and worked her magic and YES once again, we were super happy with the way everything turned out.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words and well, Kathleen took hundreds of beautiful pictures of us and well if you do the math 100's x 1,000 = well, let's just say we're going to be doing a lot more photoshoots with her! Thank you Kathleen from Love and Adventure Photography :)

Truly Wonderful!

Choosing Kathy was the best decision we made during wedding planning! Her photos are so creative, unique, and truly capture us. She's super easy to work with and has such a great sense of humor. We joined her in Yosemite for our engagement photos, and my husband and I were both sick. Kathy was super flexible-- we still had a great time, and no one believes we were sick looking at the photos! Kathy is very laid back, but is great at navigating family dynamics and coordinating large groups. We felt so calm on our wedding day because of her. She's awesome!!

Outstanding wedding photographer!

Kathy is phenomenal! She was our photographer in our winter wedding in Manhattan. Hiring her was one of the best decisions we made throughout the wedding process. We met her at the Baltimore wedding expo and we initially wanted only an engagement shoot in DC. We had already booked another photographer from NYC (before we met her) however, a week from our wedding we ended up letting go of our previous photographer. For a moment we did not know where that would lead us so we took a leap of faith and emailed Kathy to check her availability. It was very short notice and out of state so we didn’t have our hopes up. Thankfully she was available and agreed to cover our wedding! She truly saved our day! During our wedding, she was a calm presence, it was very comforting to have her guide us, and her directions for the poses were very natural and made us feel comfortable. We spent all day taking photos and it was such a blast! The photos were so beautiful we received many complements and it definitely looks great hanging on the wall. Instead of an engagement shoot, we ended up doing a post wedding shoot in DC recently and we can’t wait to see the photos –I’m sure it will turn out amazing! We absolutely recommend Kathy and her outstanding photography skills, she will not disappoint!

Best decision we made

Hiring Kathy was the single best thing we did for the wedding. She was our longest relationship with any of our vendors :-). I first met Kathy at a wedding expo over a year before our wedding, and her pictures stood out way above everyone else’s. We then met again, over coffee, and started to get all the details. It was the height of cherry blossom season and we told her we were thinking of just getting a friend to rub around with an iPhone and take pictures of us. She quickly changed our minds, and from that moment we started to realize her talent. She booked us the next weekend for a sunrise engagement shoot. We got some quick shots, but because it was freezing rain and we looked miserable in our shots. She agreed to take us out when it was warmer out for no additional charge. The second time around was a blast. We did another sunrise shoot all around DC, and ended up using a majority of her photos for our wedding table cards, save the date, ketubah background, and really anything we could think of. Then came the wedding day and she went absolutely above and beyond our expectations. Not only were the shots amazing, but she also created our wedding timeline and stuck to it almost perfectly. It was easy to put confidence in her and trust that they were going to come out great. Side note: there are shots she got of the ceremony and reception where we are looking directly into the camera, and neither of us remember looking into it. She does a great job of hiding. You won’t be disappointed!

Kathleen is incredibly talented. She makes you feel comfortable, listens to your requests and captures the perfect moments. We love her !

Kathleen has been our wedding photographer, family photog, and has become a family friend. She captures every moment. She gets every piece of detail of your wedding from the food to candid shots that make you smile from ear to ear. She captured moments that still make me smile and my heart flutter, when I look through photographs of my wedding. She does our family photos as well and can magically make my stubborn daughter smile. I have proof! She has a warm and calming personality. The Perfect Match

We worked with Kathleen for our recent wedding. She was such a dream to work with from beginning to end. From the first time we met with her she was fun and personable, and yet she clearly had a handle on time management. We wanted someone that was going to keep us focused and on task but that we were going to have a lot of fun with. We had our engagement session at Walt Disney World. Kathleen came up with some of the most creative elements for our photo shoot. The pictures turned out incredible. For our wedding Kathleen and her second photographer Sam were flexible in adjusting the schedule to deal with the possibility of rain. We thought that the rain would ruin our photos but Kathleen proved how stunning the rain could look. We could go on and on about the positives of Kathleen, and we would definitely recommend her to anyone not only looking for beautiful photos but to have a great experience too.

Fun and adventurous!

So wonderful! We did our engagement photos last spring with Kathy, and it was a super fun experience. She was able to get us out of our comfort zone to capture some really great moments - and my fiancé hates taking photos. Highly recommend!

Amazing experiences & photographs

Kathy was amazing to work with! Our engagement session was an all-day adventure where we moved from venue to venue to capture the best parts of each day. She did research to find locations that tied together both of our personalities and loves. Kathy is extremely easy to get along with and she is nothing short of amazing with large groups! She even got the children to look at the camera! We are in love with all of our photographs and can't wait to use Kathy again for future life events!

Kathy is phenomenal! We were referred her after our friend's wedding. She traveled to us in Omaha for our engagement shoot and then to New York for our wedding! Her photography skills and creativity are amazing! She was very reasonable for the quality of the work that she does, the amount of photos that we received, and the time that she took with us. For our engagement shoot, we spent ~7 hours together and had hundreds of photos to pick from!! She is so easy to work with and you will immediately feel comfortable with her-- a huge factor to make sure you get genuine photos. We love that she incorporates some classic posed photos, but she really excels at capturing those genuine real life moments as well. Everybody commented how great all of our pictures came out-- and we got them ALL (thousands!) back ~1 month after our wedding in the middle of wedding season. If she is available, book her! Kathy truly encompasses the meaning of EPIC! From our first meeting, she helped us setup our wedding day timeline and a fabulous engagement shoot. She’s really fun to grab a drink with and talk wedding- bonus! Our pictures are AWESOME! She is so creative and so easy to work with. She's not afraid to try something new and get into the pool, dirt, etc to get the perfect shot. She makes everyone comfortable and not feel like they are posing--it really shows in the photos. Kathy is one of the people we feel the most fortunate for having stumbled upon during our wedding-planning process, and hiring her as our photographer was one of the best decisions we made, no question. I should start by saying I took the search for our wedding photographer very seriously. Being a hobbyist photographer myself, I value authentic, quality photographs, and so talent and style were important to me. But equally important was finding someone who could vibe equally with my Type-A self, as well as my Type-B husband. And also equally important was finding someone who we aligned with; it is important to us that we put our money into companies and individuals who support the type of world we want to live in, and it was of utmost importance to us that hiring a photographer was no exception. Well, I can’t tell you how many people told me this perfect person didn’t exist, that’d I’d have to bend! I’m thrilled to say they were wrong. <3 I spoke to too many photographers to count—all were lovely, all were talented—but I didn’t have my ‘ah hah’ moment until Kathy came along. I found her website, and her wedding work was authentic and raw.... I found her social media pages, and she’s a wildlife photographer as well... and then I read her blog, and learned of the work she does to support wildlife rehabilitation programs and bring awareness to the people of different communities around the world>>>and I was sold. I emailed her and then quickly emailed my now husband: “She’s the one!”

We met for beers a few weeks later, and a few months later, Kevin and I were hopping on a flight to Iceland to meet Kathy for our engagement session. One second I didn’t think I wanted engagement photos, and the next second I committed to a several day session! Kathy is absolutely incredible! From our first skype to the venue walk through, Kathy was wonderful. She worked with us as our wedding plans changed. She is friendly, detail oriented, and extremely creative. Kathy does her research to find locations for more unique pictures. She doesn't rush and if focused on getting the best shots for you. The images she can capture during a sunset will blow your mind. After seeing our engagement photos, our family and friends raved about the photos and the quality of work. Love and Adventure Photography by Kathleen Hertel should be everyone’s first choice in wedding photography. Kathy is an extremely talented photographer, who is easy to work with, responsive to emails and requests, and just an all around wonderful person. Kathy goes out of her way to give the client exactly what they ask for. My husband and I moved out of state 6 months before our wedding, so Kathy adapted to our stressful schedule by driving to Raleigh, North Carolina to do our engagement shoot and scheduled our walk through the venue a few months early while we were in town. She is masterful behind the camera- we asked her to take creative pictures that captured the emotion of the day and oh my goodness did she deliver. She also got both our engagement and wedding photos to us within 3 weeks of the event!! I can’t put into words what an amazing photographer Kathy is- she’s definitely the one that you want ☺ Oh, and she knows how to bustle your dress if your Mom and Maid of Honor are nowhere to be found!

I cannot say enough about Kathleen. When searching for a wedding photographer my husband and I were looking for someone who took more "action" pics with personality. Pics that showed our love for each other. Her work s outstanding!! She did our engagement shots as well as our wedding photos. Her imagination, ideas and connection was like none other. She even made movie posters for us which ass our guests loved. Her "eye" for photography is like nothing I have ever seen. If you want someone fresh and innovative then hire Kathleen. WE were 100% pleased with all her work!!!!

I was always told the most important thing to get when planning a wedding is a great photographer…it is the one thing worth spending the extra money for as it is the way to capture your memories and you can never redo it!! I met Kathy randomly at a Wedding expo when I had already found a photographer. I fell in love with her style. She was such a great person and she was going to do a complimentary anniversary shoot for my parents! After a little drama made me part with my other photographer, I was lucky enough to able to search Kathy out and get her to photograph our wedding!

From the start it was beyond the best decision we ever made! Her personality fit perfectly with mine and my husband’s! Our engagement shoot was different and exciting…I couldn’t wait to see what she had planned for our wedding. And boy was I right!!! It was out of a magazine! She captured every moment!! Every person that saw any picture from our wedding was beyond impressed! Not only was she fun and professional but she had this amazing eye! She saw things and was able to put into film what people were feeling. She got the photos that really captured each moment. She also thought outside the box, getting some incredible stylish pictures that really just are beyond amazing. She will always go the extra mile to make your day the most unforgettable day!

Since then we have used her for two puppy photo shoots and, again, she captured the heart of our dogs! Kathy is the most fun and professional photographer and if she is available we hope to use her to capture every special occasion in our lives!

Kathy did such an amazing job with the photos for our engagement and wedding ceremony/reception. It was surprisingly hard for us to act natural in front of the camera at first but Kathy knows exactly how to get you to be comfortable and just go with it. With our wedding planning, she was one step ahead of us and did a really good job in keeping everyone and everything on schedule. She took so many beautiful photos and it's hard to choose which ones to frame since there are so many good options. We would definitely recommend her!!

Kathy is amazing! We booked her after seeing what a wonderful job she did at our friends' wedding and we were not disappointed. She was so responsive and attentive throughout the entire wedding planning process. She was also extremely understanding when we had to reschedule our engagement session multiple times due to weather. When you have Kathy take your photos, be ready for anything - whether it be climbing into a waterfall, sitting with your feet hanging over the edge on a bridge or hiking into the woods in your wedding dress to find the perfect picture setting. She always has so many fun, creative and unique ideas for photos. On the drive to our wedding ceremony, I found out it had to be moved inside due to rain. My entire vision for how the day would go was ruined. I had planned our first look and pre-ceremony photos outside and had no back up plan. Kathy was incredibly reassuring and told me she would make it work... And make it work she did. I let her take control and am so glad I did. The pictures came out better than I could have planned or imagined. Not only is Kathy a talented photographer, but she is a great, fun person as well and someone you definitely enjoy sharing your wedding day with. Working with Kathy is an incredible adventure and I would recommend her wholeheartedly to anyone.

Kathy is the best of the best! There's no other way to put it. She did our engagement photos in April and they turned out phenomenal. I received so many compliments on them! I don't know what to say, so I guess amazing, awesome, and phenomenal will just have to do. Her work speaks for itself, but my husband and are beyond satisfied and extremely happy that we found Kathy. I feel in love with her photos before I feel in love with her. She traveled to Charleston with us and captured every magical moment of our wedding weekend. When we looked at the photos, which we received a few weeks after our wedding, we were able to relive the weekend as if it were yesterday. All of our family and friends LOVED Kathy, she became a part of the family that weekend. She found the perfect light and scouted out the perfect spots to take our photos and even managed to get shots I wanted so badly in a location the venue said I couldn't. She's so adventurous, pays attention to details and knows what's she doing. This is her passion and it shows. This girl is incredible!!! We used her for both our engagement and wedding pictures and they look straight out of a fairy tale magazine. She's adventurous and never takes the same photo twice, so you know that your pictures will be stunning, fun, and uniquely you. She ended up trampling through mud and climbing over trees to get the right angle for some of our pictures; and always manages to sneak pictures of the small, tender moments. Kathy takes time to get to know each couple personally, get a feel of what they are looking for, to the point where you want to keep hanging out with her after all the photos and events are over. On our wedding day itself she went above and beyond, kept a fun and calming atmosphere, even when things got hectic. I got married over six months ago and still have people gushing over our wedding and engagement pictures. BEST PHOTOGRAPHER EVER.

First, I can assure you that there are not enough characters allowed in this review for me to adequately sing Kathleen’s praises. I adored all of my vendors, but Kathleen was my favorite. My first meeting with her was great. She brought albums and examples of her work. Her pricing was clear and she helped me plan my wedding day timeline out right then. That timeline helped me piece the rest of the day together and simply having it relieved a lot of anxiety on my part. My now-husband and I didn't even bother meeting with anyone else. We had seen enough of Kathleen's work on our social media (he knew of her for a few years before we got engaged) to know that she did absolutely phenomenal work. Once we met her, we knew we'd work well with her. We actually changed our wedding date so that she could be our photographer, as she was not available on our first choice date!

In looking through it, I loved Kathleen’s work, but I was a little bit nervous about photos with my husband as he has a really hard time smiling genuinely in posed photos. I need not have worried – Kathleen sang and made jokes until he could do nothing other than GENUINELY smile and laugh. Kathleen includes an engagement shoot in her packages and there’s a very good reason – when the day of our wedding came she wasn’t spending time figuring us out – she already knew! Kathleen has an eye for photographs that are different from the ones you see from every other wedding photographer. Her photos just always have something a little different (in the BEST way) from everyone else’s. This eye and creativity helped create photos that are both photos and works of art than can be hung throughout our home. She also managed to get my post-ceremony photos done in record time. I watched as family photos ate up my sister’s whole cocktail hour, while Kathy managed to get mine in less than 15 minutes. This was very important to me, as my husband and I wanted to enjoy cocktail hour.

Kathy is hands down THEE BEST PHOTOGRAPHER EVER TO WALK THE FACE OF THE EARTH!! I honestly dont even know what else to say. I got married December 17th and met her the January before at a wedding expo. I was IMMEDIATELY drawn to her because this one picture she had posted at her booth of a dog with a pair of wedding rings sitting on his nose stood out so clearly to me. So many things ran through my head in that brief moment: "How did she get the dog to sit still and pose for that?...that idea is so cool!...the quality of the image is simply perfection." And I knew right then and there she would be my photographer for my wedding! Her amazing ideas and worldly knowledge fit perfect into our travel themed wedding. She sent a few sneak peaks of the wedding photos and I am slowly dying from anticipation to see more! i cant even take it! And her personality is the greatest! We had soooooo much fun working with her and my wedding party loved having her with us throughout the day! There are no other options out there if you are looking for stellar photos! KATHY IS IT!! Kathy did my brother's engagement pictures and his wedding pictures and I knew that when it was time for me to get married I was going to have Kathy be my photographer. There are not enough words to describe how incredible it was having Kathleen as our engagement and wedding photographer! Her extraordinary talent is witnessed through the wedding, family, and travel photographs available on her website, so I am going to focus on three aspects of her you may not be able to see from just her photos.

GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND: In addition to her incredible photography skills, Kathleen was an absolute pleasure to work with throughout the entire wedding planning process. From her willingness to travel across the entire state of Virginia (and back) so we didn't have to choose to have engagement photos done where we met or where we got engaged, to the prerp-kit we received in the mail before the wedding with a not only a timeline of events but a bottle opener, chocolate, etc., Kathleen always goes above and beyond your expectations.

FRIENDLY/FUNNY: While my husband and I were initially worried that the photo-taking process would be awkward, as we rarely pose for photos, Kathleen kept us smiling and laughing the entire time we were taking pictures and made the process fun rather than awkward.

PROFESSIONAL: Kathleen was incredibly professional throughout the entire process and ensured everything went smoothly during the wedding. She not only met us at the venue a week before the wedding to determine where we could take the best pictures but also met with wedding planner to go over the timeline for the big day of to ensure (1) that she caught all of the big moments, and (2) that she could pull us away for couple shots throughout the night at times that wouldn't clash with any other events.

Kathleen's talent combined with her award winning personality, flexibility and professionalism make her a fantastic person to work with and we would highly recommend her to any one looking for a photographer!

Words can't describe how happy with are with Kathy's talent and wonderful service she provided to us. We heard of Kathy through a previous bride whose attending we attended. We had been following Kathy for a few years when we got engaged she was one of the first people we contacted. Kathy truly captured the moments that mattered most to us - including me walking down the aisle and capturing my grooms face or the moment I had with my Dad.

Kathy, was great to work with and totally took that awkwardness away from the situation during our engagement shoot! Kathy, even traveled for our wedding, which was awesome. We got married down in Key West FL. I believe my family members all said it best: "You truly captured not only all the little details of the day, but the true happiness of not only us (Bride & Groom) but everyone that was there. I can say nothing but amazingly good things about Kathy. From the minute we saw her pictures from a distance at a wedding expo, my now husband and I just knew we had to have her. Her photography ranges from whimsical and fun to dramatic and romantic. Kathy made our wedding day a fairy tale and the most perfect day of our lives! Photography was the most important vendor to me. I Searched through all the 5 star photographers online and interviewed so many photographers! When I met with Kathy she was so organized, her work was beyond incredible and she was truly interested in getting to know Will and I as a couple so she could provide the best services to us! Choosing Kathy was the best decision we made for our wedding. Kathy went above and beyond with our engagement session incorporating our dog and traveling throughout Baltimore to capture all of our favorite spots! My fiancé doesn't like pictures and it was the hottest day of the entire year; however, you can't tell AT ALL in any of the pictures. Kathy was always very prompt with her responses including answering all of my stupid questions. She even e-mailed us the night before the wedding to tell us how excited she was! On our wedding day Kathy arrived 30 minutes early, was extremely professional, and reassured me the entire day. She kept us on schedule while also taking more pictures than I could ever imagine. How is it even possible for 1 person to be so knowledgeable about photography while also being so personable, professional, easy going, and fun to be around! I feel like Kathy is a close family member, but that's just because she put so much love and dedication into capturing our wedding day. Not only did she capture our first look, ceremony and reception, but we also captured the sky at every possible beautiful time including sunset and late night under the stars! Kathy stayed well beyond the time in our contract because she is the best of the best! As the bride, I felt like Kathy's princess that she loved photographing! When I came across Kathy's booth at a wedding expo, I knew I had to have her as the photographer at my wedding. Her pictures are absolutely breathtaking and I was blown away by her talent. Not only do I feel like she is one of the most amazingly talented photographers out there, she is also fantastic to work with. Where do I even begin! Kathy could possibly be my favorite person ever! From day one, we knew that she would give us the most beautiful wedding photos ever. We did our engagement photos with her, which were BEAUTIFUL. She made us feel so comfortable in front of the camera. We absolutely love Kathy! For our reception, we also had a photo booth from her which all of my guests loved. The photos from that are perfect! Towards the end of the night, I felt like Kathy was more like family to us. She knew the best photos to take and we were able to go through all the photos that we needed to take before hand! She knew the best places and poses for all the photos, and knows exactly how to get us to laugh! We got our photos back quickly and I look at them all the time and am just amazed at how absolutely gorgeous they are. We had a second photographer, Brian, too, who stayed with the boys during the day. His photos came out amazing too!
I also worked with Kathy to do boudoir photos for my husband. I was so nervous but Kathy made me feel so comfortable and they came out beautiful! She knew exactly what she was doing with the poses and for outfits!! My husband also really loved them :)

Kathleen Hertel was outstanding throughout the entire process, before, during, and after our wedding. I came across her work long before I was engaged but knew that she was the one, that if I got married, would be the one that I needed to do the photography. She can do traditional wedding photography and it is stunning but she is such a creative individual that you need to take advantage of that. No matter what you want for your photos, however different, unique, or theme oriented , she can make it happen . We live a few states away but she was easy to correspond with via email or phone and always got back to any questions promptly. She went with the flow during our engagement session in NYC and during the wedding. If we got an idea last minute she was more than willing to do it, and she too came up with last minute ideas for photos. We got a destination wedding package that included engagement, day of the wedding and a day after wedding shoot. She was so flexible with who/what/when/ and where during everything that it made us have complete faith in her, not that I didn't already! I fell in love with her work immediately and new that during my wedding the last thing I needed to worry about were my photos because i KNEW that they were going to be beautiful. Engagement photos we received in about 2 weeks and The final wedding photos were done just under 6 weeks!!!!! I have never known anyone that got their finished photos that quickly, and I have heard some horror stories go people having to wait 5-6 months for all of their photos. And let me tell you there are so many amazing photos that to go through and order prints is going to be a task LOL and on the same note, to have those kinds of problems is welcome compared to what you hear out there on other couples experiences with their photographers. Kathleen is adventurous, kind, a joy to be around and has the greatest passion for what she does.I could rave about her endlessly!!

As the former wedding writer for The Baltimore Sun, I fell in love with Kathleen's work at first sight. Upon first reviewing her images for an article I was working on, I knew I had to have her for my own wedding (whenever that would be).

Her photojournalistic style truly captures the couple's personality and love story. Kathleen shot both our engagement session in Chicago and our wedding Baltimore. Working with Kathy was the easiest of all the vendors and all of mine were great. We first met when she photographed my best friends wedding June 2013, I was immediately sold. She made us laugh and feel comfortable. My BFFs hubby is shy and she put him at ease. My fiancé is super shy and I knew after meeting Kathy and witnessing how she put the grooms at ease that she could take on the job!

My BFF, I must credit, kept on top of me reminding me weekly that Kathy is awesome and I needed to talk with her soon if I wanted to hire her. I procrastinated but still managed to get super lucky. She offered to meet up a few times before the wedding but with my crazy schedule it hadn't made the time to. The week before the wedding we met up to go over details and ended up hanging out and chatting for at least 3hrs. She literally made me feel like I had nothing to worry about.

It is a true and proven fact that after all of the hard work and planning, aside from your new spouse & memories, the pictures are the only things that will last after your wedding day. And I am sooooooo glad that I chose Kathy to take those pictures and capture those memories. I cannot wait to see the final product, the sneak peaks are fabulous!

Aside from being enormously talented, Kathy is effortlessly sweet and friendly. She recently had a fundraiser for Dogs XL rescue, in which she photographed my fur baby. She was great with him and his non existent attention span. An absolute dream to work with.

Do yourself a favor and hire Kathy. You will not only be blown away by her talent but you'll smile and laugh all day!

We met Kathy for the first time at a Bridal show. Her portfolio stood out from the many others. It was fun, creative, inspiring and so much more. I don't even know where to begin with saying just how amazing Kathy is! I first saw her work when she photographed my sister-in-law's wedding. I fell in love with her work then. When my husband proposed, I knew she was the person I wanted to photograph my wedding! Kathy goes above and beyond not only to get the perfect shot, but to take photos that reflect her client's personalities. During our walk through of the venue, I told Kathy that the groomsmen had Avengers cuff links and that my husband and it would be an important photo to take. After leaving, I received a text for Kathy with a photo of an awesome factory building and she told me she had an awesome idea for a super hero shoot. We decided to go with it and the photos came out AMAZING! Kathy makes you feel completely comfortable when getting photographed and has such an amazing personality. We did engagement pictures last june (2013) she spent all afternoon with us, shes very funny and knows how to get you to really smile and laugh. she is so creative and loves trying new things, she got some awesome pictures of us lying down in our creek (we seriously look like were modeling). After spending a few hours doing pictures, she sat down with us and patiently explained everything about her contract and what everything was going to cost and what our extra options were if we wanted to higher her to do our wedding. After we were finished talking it had started raining outside and she wanted to go take some pictures of us out in the rain. she even went home and had a few up the next day on her facebook page. All of the pictures we got from her for our engagement were phenomenal.
For the wedding she met me at the venue a few days before and we walked around and got a good idea of what locations we wanted to do our pictures. During the wedding she did a great job of getting all our little details and getting all our families together to take pictures in a very organized way. During the wedding she was not afraid to get her feet a little dirty to get the shots. We also got a photo booth at for our reception and her husband ran it, she brought a ton of props and my guests all had a ball taking extra pictures and got 2 photo strips with each group of pictures taken. At the end of the night she stole us to get some awesome long exposure shots with the barn and stars in the background and our party bus ended up leaving us at the venue. so as not to leave us stranded she volunteered to take us the 20 minutes to the hotel.

Where do I begin. We booked Kathy for our wedding as soon as we met her. My husband and I fell in love with her work and also clicked with her personality. Over the course of a year working with her on two engagement shoots, a boudoir shoot, and our wedding, we also gained a friend. Kathleen took the most AMAZING, creative shots! We could not be happier with our pictures and now I need to try to narrow it down for our album! Kathy could not be a more down to earth, sweeter person and does not stop until she has the best shots and her clients are 200% happy with the work. I would highly recommend her to anyone getting married, wanting family shots, etc as her work alone speaks for itself! It is simply the best!!

I haven't gotten my pictures yet back apart from a handful of "sneak peeks" posted the day after the wedding, but I can't imagine I'll have any complaints about them.

I saw Kathy's work at a bridal show I went to when I was first starting to plan this whole thing, and once I saw her portfolio I knew I NEEDED her to photograph my wedding. After a date change or two, we luckily managed to land on a date where she was available. She's exceptionally enthusiastic and passionate about her work, she seemed legitimately excited about photographing my wedding rather than treating it like the eleventy billionth wedding she's done in her career. She braved 10 degree weather with us to do all the outdoor shots she'd envisioned, and so far from what I've seen nearly losing a few limbs to frost bite was worth it :)

Kathy was amazing! I had seen her work from a friend's wedding that she did in New York and was impressed by her ability to capture "THE" moment. She is very easy to work with and every conversation was like talking to a friend. She not only listened to what I wanted but she was careful to note what I didn't want in my pictures. For example, my husband and I were married at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, Maryland and I was worried that our pictures would look cheesy with a baseball theme. Instead, Kathy choose several different locations around the baseball stadium that I would have never have chosen. The end result were timeless pictures with a contemporary touch. Every so often, I look back at our album and am thankful that we chose her to be our photographer.

Also, Ripken Stadium is using some of her pictures on their website from our wedding! She is an AMAZING photographer!!!!

Where do I start!? I first came across Kathy at a bridal show. I loved her photo on her card. So I tossed it in my bag along with all the others...But I never forgot that image. So I looked up her website and immediately fell in love with her work and knew she would be our photographer! We met and went over our package options and scheduled our engagement photos. We like to do things a little out of the ordinary and not your typical posed photos, having Kathy she was able to take us to places that fit our personalities. We will be able to see exactly how our wedding day was and how much fun everyone had and relive those moments with our photos! It's been said that a picture is worth a thousand words, so when the memories of the most important day of your life start to get a little fuzzy because let's face it - it's a whirlwind of a day, you're going to want to have the best words a picture can tell.

There is no one better than Kathy.

Yes, she’s award winning. Yes, she has up-to-date equipment that she services regularly. But that’s not what makes a great photographer.

Kathy was professional, energetic and creative but even more than that she made us feel comfortable in front of the camera. She made it fun. She is friendly and patient and talks you through everything you need to know. She has such a unique way of looking at things, that something you may never think picture worthy, is beautiful through her eyes.

We were so in love with our pictures from our Engagement Session, that we incorporated them into our wedding day by framing them and placing them all over the hotel lobby when people entered for the reception.

The comment we received the most after people viewed the proofs of our wedding was "I don’t know how you are going to choose." And it is true, they are amazing pictures. Memories that will last us a lifetime, thanks to Kathy. Every picture tells a story. People that weren’t there said they felt like they were after looking through our pictures.

Our wedding party enjoyed her, my family loved her. She is the vendor that becomes such a part of your day that you'll be sad when you don't have to talk to her regularly anymore. She becomes your friend.

Best photographer ever! Our first engagement session was rainy and gross at Camden Yards but she still did a fantastic job AND did another make-up session in Fells Point at no charge. The photography from our wedding was fantastic. We have received so many comments about how beautiful the photographs were. She was willing to go anywhere and do anything....and had some pretty great suggestions as well. Kathy was also flexible with what was in our "package".

Kathy was absolutely fabulous to work with. Neither my husband nor I are particularly photogenic, but we were so comfortable with her that we just relaxed and were able to be ourselves. The photos were absolutely fantastic. She'll work with whatever kind of crazy stuff you want to do - odd museums for engagement photos, morning/brunch weddings with dinosaurs and cookies galore, taking most of our photos on the Metro en route to the reception... She was great. Totally professional, absolutely non-intrusive, and just overall amazing. The sad thing about getting married is that if you do it right, you only do it once, so you can't go back and re-patronize vendors like her again!

Kathleen was absolutely amazing!! She did our engagement shoot and wedding!! She was FANTASTIC! Her ideas were super creative and it was a joy to wake up the day after the wedding with a sneak peak album already up and ready to view on Facebook! She was always on time for our appointments and easy to get in touch with. It rained on my wedding day for only a couple of hours, but that time happened to be the time when we were going to be outside taking the bridal group pics - Kathy was quick on her feet and had a backup plan ready to go at Union Station! My husband and I absolutely love the pictures. They turned out amazing!! She captured all the tiny details, the amazing moments and so much more!! I met Kathy at a bridal expo, and we immediately hit it off. She has a great creative eye and stays up on wedding and photography trends so you can get those amazing pictures you see in blogs and magazines. I met Kathy at a wedding show in Towson back in 2010. I immediately fell in love with her work. As I talked with her at the wedding show I knew I wanted to use her services. A couple days after the wedding show, Kathy contacted me via email to offer me a special on engagement pictures. I had never thought of doing engagement pictures but I figure why not. A couple of weeks later my hisband (then fiance) and I had our engagement pictures done. Kathy was very professional and reasonably priced. After seeing the quality of our portraits I immediately knew she was going to be our photographer for our wedding.

On October 14th 2011 my husband and I were married. Kathy and her staff were there from start to finish. I knew that Kathy had everything under control and that was one else thing I had to stress about.

I definitely recommend Kathy for all your photography needs, whether its maternity pictures, engagement pictures, family pictures, or just self portraits Kathy and her team will definitely exceed your expectations.

Kathy Hertel was amazing! She definitely had a challenge with our families. My husband and I both have big families, speaking different languages, and 3 sets of parents between the two of us. Kathy was able to please not only us, but all of them as well. She was there all day, and took so many photos we are having a hard time eliminating ones to not include in the album. And we loved the photo booth that she had set up, it is definitely worth it! The day was not about her taking pictures, it was about us. She and her team never stuck out or were in the way of anything. They blended in with everyone and we had a great time with them. We have AMAZING pictures, and still to this day get compliments on her photos and recommend her to everyone we meet. We will DEFINITELY be using her again for family portraits!

Photography was at the top of our list as the most important thing for our wedding day. We had many important list items but we believed that the most important thing was to have amazing pictures that we would have for many years to come and to aways remember our special day!

At firest, we actually had another photographer in mind. He was the photographer at my brother's wedding and at many of my other friend's weddings. Although, we decided to still meet with Kathy who was highly recommended to us by another friend. When we first met Kathy we not only fell in love with her work but we loved her personally. She was personable and understood us and our interests.

On the day of our wedding, Kathy came very prepared. She knew every picture we wanted and was super organized. She was also excellent working with young children, especially my crazy 3 year-old nephew!

The day after our wedding Kathy posted a few pictures on our Facebook pages. We fell in love with them right away. We also got many compliments on our photos and people loved how unique they were.

When we received the rest of our photos we were so excited because Kathy captured our special day perfectly. She not only captured pictures of us and our guests, but she captured our personalities in still life. They were amazing! Our families and guests are asking for copies of the pictures. I would highly recommend Kathy because of her professionalism and for her extraordinary talent!

Kathy is an Amazing photographer! She was highly recommended by a close friend for our engagement pictures. The photos were amazing. Kathy was able to take a cloudy day and make it beautiful. We have received nothing but positive comments from our pictures. On our wedding day, she and her team were punctual and professional. She was able to catch the moments that you as a bride miss and catch the moments that you want to remember. She captures the emotion of the event in every picture. Her work seems more like art. Kathy photographed my cousin's wedding, in which I was the Maid of Honor. She did a FANTASTIC job and I would recommend her to anyone who wants the best pictures possible for their wedding day, or any other occasion for that matter! Kathy was a dream to work with. She is extremely creative and flexible when it comes to trying new locations and techniques. Her work ethic is evident in all that she does for the bride, from the first meeting, to the site walk through, and not to mention her help on the day of the wedding. She makes the bride and groom feel at ease the entire day, plus kept the wedding party in line. Hiring Kathy was the best decision we made! Kathy is an absolute dream to work with! We've been raving about her since our first engagement shoot in 2008. She is completely thorough and captured every aspect of our wedding. I am so glad that I decided to go with Kathleen Hertel Photography for my wedding. She made it easy for us to meet her before booking so we could get to know her and her work. She was always available to answer any sort of questions that I had. Most importantly, she worked with us to know which pictures we absolutely needed taken and what pictures we would like if she had time. The day of the wedding she was everywhere taking pictures of anything and everything she could. She stayed longer than we had talked about just to take pictures of things she was seeing that she thought we would like (people dancing, etc.) The turnaround of the pictures afterwards was quick and easy. Within 3 weeks we had some previews of pictures and soon after that our website was up with all of our pictures so we could view them. We received our CD of pictures quickly and they were beautiful. I was highly impressed with Kathy's work and the absolutely stunning pictures that she took at our wedding. I still to this day look at my pictures in amazement. I would absolutely recommend Kathy to anyone and everyone and I fully intend on using her again in the future. Bravo!

All I can say is Kathy is amazingly talented! She was so much fun to work with! Kathy is very professional, responsive, flexible and most importantly creative. We did two separate engagement sessions (all over MD), pictures at our new house and of course wedding day pictures with her (and I want a trash the dress with her!). Since our ceremony was in Canton, we wanted pictures with the bridal party in the city and by the water before we all headed off to the reception in Towson. Kathy met with us 1 week prior to the wedding to go down to the church and plan exactly where we would have our pictures taken and to double check the lighting that time of night. On the wedding day she was able to get some amazing pictures of my dress and shoes hanging in a tree! She also got some fun pictures of my cat and dog; they couldn’t stay away from all of the girls getting ready! (She even made my very fat cat look skinny!) I would highly recommend Kathy to anyone! I just got married a week ago and she has already posted a handful of pictures from my wedding (and now I'm dying to see the rest). I could write about how wonderful those pictures are, but you can see that on her website or facebook page. What you can't see is the dedication she has to her field, the excitement she has when she gets a vision for a perfect picture, and for the good natured comfortable feeling she gives you during the whole experience. Its easy to get a hold of her and you immediately feel at ease once you meet her. I had complete trust in her and the pictures I have seen so far have proved that it was totally worth it. My friends and family said they hardly noticed her, but she was everywhere all at once. I can't say enough about her - I didn't know her until wedding planning started but I will be finding excuses to use her again! If you have interviewed tons of photographers and the only ones that seem to be meeting your needs are out of your price range - call Kathy - she is the best of both worlds!

Kathy listened to and incorporated our ideas for locations. She has a calming presence. The cost was very reasonable. She had extra meetings with us to ensure that we all understood each other. The product was amazing!

Kathy is not only an amazing photographer, but an amazing person. My matron of honor counseled me that when choosing a photographer, pick someone that you personally like, because in all likelihood this is the vendor that you'll have to continue to have a relationship with after the wedding. This is only one of the reasons I'm glad we chose Kathy.

Kathy is incredibly patient and has a fantastic eye. I put a very high value on our photography, figuring that it and memories (well, and a husband) are the things I would have for years to come. Kathy was receptive when I sent her over 150 pictures from other people's weddings that I admired and would like on my day. She even printed out all of these pictures and brought them with her as a reference. Kathy caught moments we didn't even realize we would think were special and had so many cute ideas, like bringing a white board to write "thank you" on so we would have a great photo to include in our thank you notes or to make thank you cards out of.

I also requested photos that would make us laugh for years to come—vague, right? Not to Kathy. As we walked around the Inner Harbor she marched us right into Barnes and Noble where she pulled out pre-selected titles for us. I will always laugh as I read "Divorce Sucks" and my husband reads "Wedding Planning For Dummies". And some day we will embarrass our children as I read "Wedding Chic" and my husband reads "The Sex Bible". Too fun!

Our location, the National Aquarium, posed some unique lighting challenges. Not only did Kathy meet me there to do a walk-through, she bought an annual pass to the Aquarium so she could return multiple times before our wedding. That made our day so easy, because Kathy had already scouted shots not only at the Aquarium but throughout the Inner Harbor. And due to her prior experience in event planning, she even kept us on schedule since we did most of our photos before our wedding. The true testament—at the end of the shoot my husband said "that wasn't so bad" (trust me, huge compliment from this man who hates taking pictures!).

We have received so many compliments from our family and friends about our wedding photos. My brother is jealous of them and I even had a friend say she wished she could get married again just so she could hire Kathy. Not only do we have absolutely gorgeous photos that reflect us as a couple, we gained a friend in the process. We truly consider Kathy our life photographer and look forward to her documenting all of our future adventures.

Hire Kathy, you won't regret it.

Kathy was a phenomenal photographer. She makes you feel extremely comfortable and is very professional without being intrusive. Kathy is creative which brings even more magic to an already magical day (wedding). She truly captures the spirit, the love, the emotions and excitement of any day.

Words cannot express the beauty of my wedding pictures. Kathy was able to capture EVERYTHING from every angle and has managed to take everyone's breath away when they look at our wedding pictures. I am beyond pleased with Kathy's services and her enthusiasm and warmth was a bonus. I wholeheartedly reccomend this photography company to anyone who really wants great pictures. Her passion for photography is very evident in the end result. My family was raving about Kathy even before the pictures came out and when the pictures were developed they were not dissapointed. Imagine Photography was a wonderful professional company. Kathy is such a sweet person who is very passionate about her work. She went above and beyond to get great shots and was excited to do so. I would reccomend the company for any type of photo shoot. She has a great eye for artistic shots and plan to use her for shoots in the future.

I met Kathy at a wedding expo about 10 months before my wedding and was immediately drawn to her creative and unique style when it came to wedding photography. I knew I wanted to hire her right away! Between our engagement session, getting ready, ceremony, and reception she blew me away with her photos. She is truly an artist and captured everything from our special day. I would highly recommend her and hire her again for a special event!

Kathleen and her team did an amazing job on my engagement and wedding photos. I was and still am so impressed with my photos. Every little tiny detail that I didn't even notice were captured. To be honest I love looking at my photos more than looking at my video. I highly recommend her.

Kathy came as a reference from friends & after seeing her website I called & she came for a consultation. She brought great photos, but we worried she’d be out of our price range. To our delight, Kathy is reasonable (she could be charging more!) & we booked her. Our engagement shoot was in 10/11 & unfortunately the weather dropped down to below 20. Kathy was a trooper & got us to every location we planned & quickly. The poor girl even stood in a freezing fountain to get the perfect shot! We walked away excited, but anxious about the quality she would get from us freezing. Weeks later, Kathy sent us photos & we were delighted at how good they were. Everyone loved the save-the-date magnets & I think it’s great that she gives you a CD to allow the freedom to send away for those things. The week of the wedding, we met her at the Chapel so she could go over where we’d like photos & what light would be flattering. The day of our wedding she coordinated shots of my husband and me without letting us see each other & kept us moving to get to the wedding on-time. Once the ceremony started, I never even remember seeing her until saying thank you at the end. In the weeks following, my husband & I started to get nervous- did she get everything? It’s A LOT of pressure-you only have 1 night-a couple of hours- to have photos that will tell the story of your wedding & last a lifetime. Kathy sent us photos a couple weeks later & my husband & I were AMAZED. She captured beautiful moments, hysterical dances & facial reactions I didn’t even know occurred! It was like experiencing the night over again. The greatest compliment I can give Kathy is that she was a photography phantom- my family & husband agreed that we never remember her being there in the moments she caught & besides not capturing any moments at all, my greatest fear was that our photographer would drag out the staged shots & be in the way to capture the candid moments. Kathy captured everything & we couldn’t be happier.

Choosing the right photographer for your wedding is so important. You want someone that you can bear to be in your face for atleast 8 hours on one of the most important days of your life. We interviewed about 5 photographers and Kathleen's personality was an immediate fit with my now husband and i. Her photography package was one of the most inclusive that we was saw (included the engagement session). She has very flexible payment arrangements and is a joy to be around.

The day after our wedding, she had sneak peak photos posted for us to view and share with family/friends. The ideas she had and captured for our wedding reminds us every time we look at our pictures that we definitely chose the right photographer. i can't wait to see the rest of the pictures.

Our guests continuously comment on the professionalism of Kathleen and her staff as well as that she is an expert with her craft.

We did our engagement photos and wedding photography with Kathleen. We also set up a photobooth which everyone loved. She was very creative and quick to take pictures.... doesn't waste your time. Provides amazing photographs with many different styles. Also provides a guide and helps you make sure you think of every possible shot you would want on your wedding day. Very quick to respond and returns pictures in a reasonable timeframe.

Best decision for our wedding was hiring Kathy

Kathy is the absolute best to work with - she is fun, flexible, organized, adventurous, and fantastically creative and talented. I knew when hiring Kathy that our pictures would be amazing, but what I didn't realize was how influential Kathy was going to be in making sure our entire day ran smoothly. She had a plan which efficiently and seamlessly got us and our families through the entire day while still remaining easy going, flexible, and super creative. I would hire Kathy a million times over. Working with Kathy was a delight and our pictures were, indeed, amazing.

Kathy is my hero!

I met Kathy at a bridal expo and knew right away that she'd be great for us. She went out of her way to make our engagement session very unique and special and got the best pictures of our wedding day.
