There is no question as to whether or not you should book Julie. You should. Period. We wanted very colorful photos and lots of candids and we were directed by two different people in Julie's direction. We ending up doing our engagement photos with her and fell in love instantly. We felt she was really able to capture our personalities and it was so nice to get to know her before our wedding day. It really made it feel as though we were old friends when the wedding day came. On the big day she was so organized and put everyone at ease. Not only did she give us the colorful photos we wanted but she also managed to catch a few artsy shots that we didn't even know we wanted/needed. We know a lot of professional artists and they were all in awe of Julie's photos from our wedding. The only problem we faced was how can we possibly frame 300 photos and fit them all in our house? Not only is Julie talented, she is also very professional, great with communication, and just a joy to be around. I know we will be reaching out to Julie again for all the photo-worth moments in our life. -

Shannon Sent on 06/26/2017Deciding to hire Julie for our elopement photos was easily the best decision I made throughout the entire process aside from actually marrying my husband! I ended up finding out about Julie Shuford Photography through a friend, and ultimately decide to book her services because it fit within my budget and the photos on her website looked amazing. To say that it turned out to be SO much more than that is an understatement.
This was my and my husband's first experience with professional photography, so we didn't really know what to expect or what the process would be. Julie was not only very responsive to my overwhelming amount of questions, but really took the time to get to know us prior to our ceremony and made us feel at ease from beginning to end. By the time we actually met her in person, it felt like we were old friends. Everything about hiring Julie for our photos exceeded my expectations, and I truly couldn't be happier with how everything turned out.
Her style of photography is natural while still being sophisticated and beautiful while still being real. Looking through our photos, my husband and I laughed and cried and rejoiced that these photos were so uniquely “us.” Julie was able to capture our special day in such a way that everything was exactly how I remembered it, only more beautiful. We laughed, we cried, and we made amazing memories on our wedding day, and I’m beyond grateful that Julie was there to capture it all. We now have amazing photos of our wondrous day, and I truly couldn’t be happier.
I would recommend Julie to anyone and everyone for any occasion - not only because she’s an beautiful person but because she is a spectacular photographer.

First: Julie is amazing and honestly such a beautiful person inside and out and will make you feel like you are too. I met Julie as a customer who came into my shop. She said it was an unplanned stop but that she was looking for a new top or two. As I got to know her I found out she was a wedding photographer! Funny story was that I myself was looking for a wedding photographer! After some hits and misses in the fitting room we ultimately connected over how much planning goes into a wedding and then exchanged information. Fast forward a year and a half later she arrives at my hotel room ready for the big day! Julie made every moment special, every minute lasting, and every second reminding this stressed out bride she was beautiful. From the time we met to the day of the wedding to even after, the communication and kindness was felt every step of the way. She radiates joy, she want you to know how amazing you are, and she will help you and work with you in any way she can along the way. Even driving me, the bride, to her own wedding because for some reason that wasn't planned for, but without hesitation she offered. I can't stress enough how much she did, and when the photos arrived I cried, because she caught everything I missed, everything my brain couldn't process, every moment I can fill in the blanks to, and I will be eternally grateful for that. This is the most important day of your life and she makes it that much more special. Trust me when I say I will be booking her again for my vow renewal and sharing her with anyone I can who needs a photographer for their wedding or even family. Thank you so much Julie for being amazing! -

We love Julie!! Was looking to schedule a last minute holiday photo shoot and Julie was there for the rescue. Our group of 8 (including 1 baby and 1 pitbull) booked a mini photo shoot and Julie was SO on top of it. She knew all the spots, all the arrangements, all the ways to make us smile and keep the baby and doggo entertained. The shoot was over and done with it all in what felt like no time at all! We were over the moon with the final product, and it's such a nice treat to offer our families while we're separated over the holidays. I've already recommended Julie to friends since our shoot! -

Above and beyond in all the ways!
It was our lucky day when we found Julie for our wedding photographer! Our initial Zoom consultation call with her was so much fun - We found out right away that all of us love hiking, camping, and backpacking, we’re all into vegan/vegetarian foods, and that we’ve all got some full moon crystal collections going. These were three themes we wanted to tie into our wedding, so we signed Julie on board immediately! Communication and getting together all the clerical details with Julie was a breeze from start to finish, she is so professional, organized, and experienced in the wedding game. Early on her knowledge and experience came in handy - We got caught in some initial wedding coordinator confusion and suddenly needed to find a new coordination team later in the game than we had hoped, and although we already had a full list of vendor recommendations from Julie, she sent us another detailed list of specific recommendations based on what we needed! That totally isn’t in her job description, and she did it anyway to help and support us personally, which made us feel really cared for amongst all of her various clients. We weren’t sure where we wanted to do our engagement session, but during our first call, Julie got so excited at the idea of doing an outdoorsy shoot with us, we were then inspired to have it at the first campsite we ever went camping together! This was the best decision - Julie was a rockstar, we were all climbing over boulders and up steep trails behind camp while she also managed all her camera gear. And we all had *so much fun*, even though we’d just met in person for the first time, it was so easy to hang out, not to mention way easier than I thought it would be to be in front of the camera for so long! It really felt like we were all just hanging out and exploring the area, Julie is so fun and makes the photoshoot process feel so natural, there were times we hardly realized we were getting photos taken. We stayed the rest of the weekend to camp and were so surprised when Julie emailed us a few sneak peeks late that same night after she got home. The whole rest of the stay we kept looking at them and couldn’t believe that more were still to come. We got to use a bunch of them on our wedding website and holiday card, and everyone kept saying they really hoped the same photographer would be shooting the wedding! As we handled final preparations, Julie was still there to support us in a handful of random concerns, and we really appreciated her having a whole form to fill out for what specific shots we wanted throughout the day. (Again, her coming through with that organization and experience made our preparations so easy and lessened so much stress!) Come wedding day, I was so glad we had a familiar, friendly face in our photographer to help calm the pre-ceremony jitters and get things underway. The second shooter Julie brought, Kim, was also a great energy to be around! Throughout the ceremony and into the reception, we hardly noticed they were there - They did an excellent job at seamlessly navigating all the hustle and bustle and working their way into getting all their photos without getting in the way or disrupting any of the party vibes at all. For the planned family shots and the like, they were super quick and efficient, too! Family and friends are still bringing up what a great job they did, many have never seen wedding photographers get the job done so organically. And all this praise came before anyone saw the wedding sneak peeks! Once those rolled in, also way earlier than we expected, everyone was floored. None of us could believe how so many great shots were taken with no interruptions to the flow of the party! One of our specific shot ideas took a bit more planning and set up from Julie - Our wedding was on a full moon, and we had to have an epic moon shot! Julie was super into the idea and made sure to map out where and when the best visibility would be, then of course she and Kim had to set up some extra gear to make sure everything came out. All of her attention to detail in planning this came together in a gorgeous shot of us under our full moon! We cannot recommend Julie enough - She obviously loves what she does, that is made clear by how excellent her skills are and in how great a person she is to work with. We already know we want to have her do a first anniversary shoot with us somewhere epic! Thank you for capturing our day so perfectly Julie, our photos were one of the top priorities for our wedding, and you exceeded all our expectations! -

Julie Shuford is incredible!
Julie was recommended to us by my sister. Seeing the quality of her previous work made her an easy choice. After getting in contact, the entire process to build our wedding photography package was incredibly smooth and professional. Julie was flexible to our needs and provided her expertise when necessary to craft a perfect day. On the day, Julie was on time and provided exceptional service. The final photos were even better than we could have imagined. Her technical ability is tremendous and we ended up with a huge amount of gorgeous photos that we will cherish forever. I cannot recommend Julie Shuford enough. We will be booking her again for our reception. -

Perfection!
Julie gave us beautiful memories to last a lifetime! We did both our engagement photos and wedding photos with Julie, and she surpassed our expectations! I am not naturally comfortable being in front of the camera, but she put me at ease immediately. She’s so relaxed and easy to work with. I highly recommend her and hope we can have a photo shoot with her again in the future! -

Julie was the best photographer we could have chosen!
My husband and I can't recommend Julie enough! She photographed our family for a newborn/family portrait session when our baby girl was 2 weeks old. We were a total mess and Julie found the most beautiful and meaningful moments in and amongst the chaos. Not only were her photos of our baby gorgeous but she made me feel beautiful 2 weeks after giving birth. Julie was so kind and compassionate both in the communication leading up to the session and during the session itself. Julie also has no ego surrounding her work. We expressed to her that since 2 week olds were unpredictable and ours was not enjoying being disturbed from her slumber (basically she was screaming for half the time and spit up all down herself twice, which Julie brushed off like it was nothing) it was more important to us to have photos with our family as a whole than our baby alone. Julie even made sure to scout our house for the best space to pose with our two week old and our 130lb Bernese Mountain Dog. We are obsessed with our photos and already have plans to hire Julie again for another family session in a few months time.
I can only imagine how wonderfully calm Julie is during a whole day of wedding madness! No matter what occasion you are looking to hire Julie for I say DO IT!!! You won't regret it, she's wonderful! -

We Sooo Lucked Out Getting Julie For Our Wedding!
Seriously cannot express how lucky my wife and I feel for getting Julie to take pictures of our wedding. My wife and our team put hours of time turning our space into a beautiful wonderland, and Julie was able to capture the entire transformation. If you are planning an event or wedding that is filled with color, you need to hire Julie to photograph it! She is a wizard with all that. -

We are thrilled to have chosen Julie to shoot both our engagement photos and minimony this year! Every step of the way, from planning to the receiving the finished product, Julie was extremely communicative and helpful.
Shooting with Julie is like hanging out with a lifelong friend. She helped us to feel comfortable in front of the camera and truly captured our relationship in a way that looks natural, NOT overly posed or cheesy. Julie is also incredibly efficient and is able to shoot many poses in no time at all. The variety in our wedding photos is incredible! We can't choose our favorites because we love them all so much.
We can't wait to work with Julie again next year (and for many years to come)! We cannot recommend Julie enough. -

We feel very lucky to have worked with Julie for our wedding photography at Orcutt Ranch and engagement shoot in Santa Monica. From our time with her it’s clear that Julie’s an experienced professional with a technical acumen and artistic flair for capturing beautiful moments that will be cherished for a lifetime.
We knew Julie was the perfect person for us from the moment we first met her for coffee during a torrential L.A. downpour. She possess all of the traits you could want for a wedding photographer (and a vendor in general): reliable, responsive, accommodating, and decisive without being heavy-handed.
We also had a great time hanging out with Julie on the evening of our engagement photo shoot. She had a knack for putting us at ease to bring out our true essence, which made for wonderfully captured moments. It truly felt like hanging out with an old friend instead of some awkward, paid third-wheel. She always catered to our preferences, but also had wonderful on-the-fly suggestions when the moment called for it or when she found inspiration in a certain effect or object (like our neighbor’s fence and shrubbery, or the light pouring through a retaining wall).
On the wedding day, Julie and her assistant photographer absolutely hit a homerun. Several family and friends remarked how much the photographers had run around the grounds of Orcutt Ranch capturing all of the key ceremonial moments and reception fun. The quality and quantity of pictures we received were certainly worth the wait! -

Cannot recommend Julie highly enough!! She is an incredibly warm, kind, fun, funny, down-to-earth person and her work is just gorgeous. When we first met Julie over FaceTime, we told her our idea for our engagement photos (involving an inflatable dinosaur costume) and she was immediately as enthusiastic about the idea as we were! She had wonderful suggestions on locations for them and she made us feel so totally comfortable with the whole process. And she was such a joy to work with on our wedding day! So fun to have her with me and my bridesmaids as we were getting ready. She kept us right on schedule and was so great at wrangling our families and bridal party. We're completely in love with all our photos!! The portraits and the candid photos turned out equally amazing. I don't know how we're going to be able to decide which ones to frame! Best wedding photographer!!!
Julie is amazing. She photographed our wedding and took our engagement photos, and we feel so lucky to have worked with her. Not only is she incredibly talented, she is such a sweet person and we genuinely enjoyed spending time with her. For both our engagement and wedding photos, Julie scouted out the areas ahead of time to figure out good photo spots, so once we arrived she knew exactly where to take us to get some amazing shots. She gave great direction and made us feel totally at ease, and made the process so much fun. In the lead up to our wedding, Julie was so on top of everything - she checked in with us regularly and worked with us on our timeline so we could sneak away for some beach photos during our cocktail hour! She had such a calm, happy presence on the day of the wedding and really made the day wonderful. We are so obsessed with all of our photos - they are more amazing than I could have imagined. Choosing Julie as our photographer was one of the best wedding decisions we made, we highly recommend her!!! -

One of our best wedding decisions
Hiring Julie was one of our best wedding decisions. Our photos turned out beautiful, vibrant, and really captured all the fun and happiness of our wedding day. We received lots of compliments on the quality of our engagement and wedding photos, but more important Julie was able to capture so many wonderful candid moments of our wedding. Fantastic Photographer
Julie was our wedding photographer and our engagement photos in northern CA. I knew I wanted to use her as our photographer and was grateful that she was so willing to travel. She made my husband and I feel very comfortable and gave good direction for our photos. Julie is friendly, professional, responsive, and has a great eye. I absolutely loved our photos and will cherish them for a lifetime! More recently we had a mini session to do our maternity photos. I wasn't going to get photos taken due to the pandemic right now but I'm so glad I did. We got our photos so quickly and were able to use them for our holiday cards this year. I appreciated that Julie had an outdoor location already set that was beautiful and I felt very safe as she wore a mask the whole time and we socially distanced. You can't go wrong using Julie to document your special moments. -

Julie is not only a fantastic photographer on her own but she truly understands how to listen to what my wife and I wanted, as well both before and on our wedding day. Her experience helped us outline the types of photos we wanted to ensure no one got lost in the craziness of the wedding. She was patient, knowledgeable, and above all, friendly. She seemed to capture each moment at our wedding effortlessly finding the best light, authentic emotion, and enchanting angles by which my wife and I can relive our special day over and over again. In fact, we loved how she captured our wedding so much, we had her take our newborn photos as well. And they came out equally as marvelous. Our wedding was such a whirlwind, I don't think we would be able to look back and remember the beauty of the space, the charm of the people, and the enchanting ambiance of the day without having had Julie to capture it for us and with us.
