  Thank you Joy Abendmode!

  I cant say enough about my experience at Joy Abendmode Bridal. I traveled all the way from Pittsburgh, PA for my visit and the selection at the bridal shop is sooo amazing! There is literally something for every bride. My visit to the bridal shop was great! Meredith and Cydney were extremely prompt, warm, friendly, and they really made me feel like a star during my visit. The ladies were also very honest and knowledgable about the dresses, order timeline, and sizing which is very important during this process. My only gripe is I wish my visit could have been a little longer than one hour. I went in with a game plan and very specific dresses/ brands that I wanted to try on. However if I didn’t know that in advance, 1 hour would truly have not been enough time to find the dress of my dreams. I chose a Millanova dress that was not available in Pittsburgh, and I was so very happy that I was able to try on the gown prior to ordering. Meredith followed up after my visit and has been very communicative throughout this entire process. I truly cant wait to return to pick up my dress and hang out with ladies again. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  Best Possible Experience

  My experience at Joy Abendmode was better than I ever could have imagined, especially because I was dress shopping during the pandemic. I brought my sister and fiance with me, and we had the full store to ourselves with the AMAZING Meredith. I've watched a lot of "Say Yes to the Dress" in my time, and I was so worried about getting the right consultant - someone who got me and my insecurities - and Meredith was like a straight up fairy godmother. She put me at ease, she let my sister and fiance be their crazy selves, and she really, really paid attention to how I responded to each dress. She did not rush me or pressure me, and the salon had one of my favorite designers ever (which a lot of other places did not have). I said yes to my dress, and it was my very first appointment trying things on. Meredith also picked the perfect veil, and the whole thing came together more flawlessly than I could have hoped for. As someone who doesn't always feel beautiful, I couldn't have felt better about myself after leaving my appointment and saying yes to the absolute perfect dress and veil.

  Wow. I have nothing but great things to say about this shop! I had a bridal appointment with Meredith and Dianna and it couldn’t have gone any better. These ladies made my dress experience easy, fun, and completely stress free. I can’t recommend this store enough. They have a pretty large collection of dresses and they are all so stunning. I found my dress quickly and Meredith caught all the good angles of me in my dress and sent all the photos to my phone at the end of my appointment. If I could give them 100 stars, I absolutely would!

  My Dream Dress

  When I got engaged in April, I already had an idea of my dream dress. However, I thought I would have to go out of the state to find it. Boy was I wrong….after a quick google search for black owned bridal boutiques…Joy Abendmode Bridal popped up. I looked through their collections and booked my appointment. From speaking with Linda regarding my appointment to my actual consultation….the experience was amazing.
  I thought I would have to go to other stores, but I found my dream dress in one appointment. I’m so thankful for Meredith & Dianna for providing me with an experience I will never forget. I highly recommend Joy Abendmode to all future brides.

  Amazing!

  Being very picky, I did not have much hope I’d find a dress that I absolutely loved. But they found me the dress of my dreams!!! And I couldn’t be happier with the team! They even helped me customize the dress to fit my personality.

  Amazing Experience!

  I had a great experience picking out my dress here! It was the first place I tried on any dresses and their selection was stunning. There was a dress that I fell in love with, but was hesitant to commit to, since I never thought I'd be that lucky to find a dress at the first place I shop. I went to a few more stores, but inevitably came back a couple weeks later to finally purchase the dress I loved from the beginning. Meredith and Diana were both great and so helpful during this process. Neither were pushy, even when I was scared to commit to the dress at my first visit. I would definitely recommend coming here if you want a unique, beautiful dress!

  One of a kind!

  Diana and Meredith are so knowledgeable, sweet, and overall amazing to work with. They were so helpful and made my experience with them so much fun. I felt like I was trying on dresses with my dearest friend. These women truly love what they do and it’s very obvious in the way that they work. I would recommend this store over and over.

  Best Bridal salon ever!

  Joy Abendmode Bridal was a dream. I always knew picking out a wedding dress would be amazing..but not like this!! They went above and beyond to make my experience personal and special. I wanted to keep on every dress I tried on! I fell in love with one, but wanted them all! They carry the top designers, I felt like I was in a million dollar dress but was pleasantly surprised with the price. If I had to do it all over I would go to the same place every time! I can't stop thinking about what a dream it was. Thank you to all the staff at Joy!!

The entire experience, from the moment I booked my first appointment, to the day I walked home with my perfect dress was professional, fun, and easy! Meredith always listened to what I had to say, and took my feedback to heart. Every dress she pulled was exactly the style I was looking for, and was within my budget. I had trouble committing to my dress the first day because it was the first place I had looked. Meredith did NOT pressure me at all, and I could just tell all she wanted was for me to find the dress of my dreams. I was able to make an appointment the next available day to come back and purchase my dress. The already amazing process ended with a celebratory champagne toast & a photos. Could not have had a better experience at Joy & would highly recommend this to anyone looking for dresses, no matter what style dress or budget you have. Thanks for everything!

  I stumbled upon this shop on a Tuesday afternoon and walked out with my dream dress! I happen to live less than a mile away from its location and while scouring the internet for dress ideas I came upon a Viero gown that I loved and after realizing this shop carried that designer I called and asked if they had that specific gown available (which they did, #score!) and if they had any appointment openings later that day. They got me right in! When I pulled up to the shop, I realized I had walked by it many times but had never been in! It is beautifully decorated, unique, classy and you feel special from the minute you walk in the door. The appointments are individualized and the dressing room is a circular drape;quite the experience! Once getting my gown on, I didn't want to take it off and the consultants were in no rush for me to take it off either! They were so patient, allowing me to take pictures, stare in the mirror for far too long, try on different veils and were never pushy or pressured me into making a decision or "getting the sale" which was so refreshing after having been to a few other bridal salons previously. They even personally contacted the designer, in real time, to ask about specific modifications that could be made to the gown and what the pricing would be. It was amazing! After saying yes to the dress, we popped some champagne and ended up leaving long after the shop closed. It felt like we had known each other forever. It was such a fun day and an experience I will never forget; so thankful for the sisters at Joy Abendmode!

  Relaxed atmosphere, great salesperson

  We meet with Meredith at Joy Abendmode last Friday. The appointment time was right as scheduled. It was only us in the bridal salon. Very personal, loved that. Meredith took down what my daughter was looking for in her wedding. She hit it out of the park on the very first dress. She tried on several others & even went to another appointment and tried on about 6 more dresses. But nothing compared to that first one. Meredith was available the next morning to have us come back and do measurements etc. our experience at Joy Abendmode was outstanding. I would recommend them to anyone

  Found the dress of my dream here! They were so nice. Especially during a time like this, it's so nice to have people that genuinely put time and care into you.   I would say overall, I had a positive experience with this shop. Here are the pros and cons:
  - They're professional; from the beginning of the appointment, they ask you questions to get a better feel of what you have in mind, they ask if you have a specific silhouette in mind, what fabric, etc.. they then bring out so many options based on your answers. I ended up finding a dress that was exactly what I had envisioned for my big day because they were so specific and understood what I wanted.
  Cons:
  - The packaging of a wedding dress is extremely important to properly protect the delicate fabric, especially for brides who will be traveling with their dresses, unfortunately this shop only gives you a thin, non-durable bag. I had to invest in a proper garment bag later on.
  - I ordered a veil from the shop, and it turns out just to pick up the veil, I had to take an official appointment, I ended up having to wait 3 weeks after the veil was ready just to pick it up. I feel like something simple that doesn't require fitting shouldn't be such a hassle.
  But all in all, it was a good experience, and I found my dress.

  Bad communication

  I have mixed feelings about this place upon my arrival. The two ladies that help me were very sweet, helpful understanding, and found the dresses that I absolutely liked. The problem came in when it was time for me to purchase my dress, there were miscommunication to whether they do payment plans or not. She told me they can honor that. and then turn around and say she never told me they do payment plans. After going back-and-forth about the communication we had Meredith agreed on a certain date for me to make my payment she agreed to a certain date, and then a couple days later she act like we never had that conversation that made me very unhappy. I felt very uncomfortable after the phone call I had with her. I made my payment in full and decided to pick my dress up the next day, and Meredith told me I had to make an appointment to get my dress which I had no idea about. She made a big deal about me coming to the shop without an appointment so I talked to one of the young ladies about my issue and I just felt as if they blew me off . If you decided to get a dress from here ask all the questions that you have so there won’t be any misunderstandings. I will not recommend this place to anybody.

  Joy Abendmode's reply:

  1. During her appointment the bride requested a payment plan and was told that we do not do payment plans at Joy. In order to accommodate the bride, we granted the request to make a payment arrangement.
  
  2. The date agreed upon for the second payment was March 13th. Meredith understood that the due date was March 6th. This is the on miscommunication that occurred. She communicated this on the phone call and stated that she would honor the 13th date. She underlined the importance of making payment on time, as this was an exception to the rule. This conversation took place on March 6th and the bride paid a week later.
  
  3. Upon payment completion the bride was sent messages, stating that she would need an appointment to pick up her dress. Joy Abendmode Bridal is by appointment only. It is stated in our emails, on our website, and in a text message sent to the bride. The bride showed up without an appointment and was told that we would, again, accommodate the bride. Within 5 minutes the bride had her dress and stood on the sidewalk for around 20 minutes dressing down one of the sweet ladies that assisted her.
  
  3. The Bride told Meredith that she shouldn't have allowed a payment plan, if Joy doesn't do payment plans. The bride also stated that the sign on the door, the emails, and the text messages were not sufficient communication to let her know that Joy is by appointment only.
  
  4. Joy has done all they could think of to accommodate this bride at every turn only to be told, by the very person benefiting, that we should not have made accommodations. This has been a heartbreaking and demeaning interaction.
  
  Please remember ladies, whatever you are going through, the staff you work with are people. The golden rule is something that we hold dear here at Joy, treat people the way you want to be treated.

  BEWARE: Strict No Photo Policy. Drove to Ohio to avoid purchasing from Joy Abendmode.

  I would not recommend this shop to any bride. The owner's no-photo policy combined with a $25 fee for each appointment had me to driving to Ohio to purchase the same dress instead of buying from Joy Abendmode. First off, I called asking if they had a specific dress in stock, so clearly, I already knew the designer. I paid $25 and went to the appointment with one friend. I tried on the dress and fell in love. I had a feeling it could be THE dress. The consultant was very nice and helpful and reminded my friend of the no-photo policy (which I was made aware of a few hours before my appointment). I did not buy the dress that day, as I had two other appointments already lined up over the next three weeks. After those appointments, I couldn't stop thinking about that dress from Joy Abendmode. I wished I had a photo of it to remember all the things I loved from three weeks earlier. I called explaining that I thought this could really be THE dress and asked if I could come in again, try it on, and take a photo. The answer was, "you can pay another $25 to try it on again but you can't take any photos." I visited several boutiques and none of them enforced policies like this. In fact, they were appalled when I told them about my experience at Joy Abendmode. I am a visual person and truly needed to compare all the photos of my favorite dresses to make a final decision. It was also important for me to send a photo to a family member who wasn't available during the time of the appointment to get her opinion. I offered to pay for the photo the consultant took during the appointment. The response was "we can send you the photo when you purchase the dress." (Seriously?) It's like they weren't even listening to my concerns. When asked, no one knew of the reason for the owner's no-photo policy. A little research suggests it is an outdated way of deterring brides from figuring out the designer of the dress and shopping elsewhere. In my case, I called THEM to see if they had the dress, so it made no sense for my situation. Luckily, a family member found the dress 4 hours away in Ohio. I was happy to make the trip to avoid buying from Joy Abendmode. The shop in Ohio also has a contract with the designer and allows photos no problem. Of course, the owner of Joy Abendmode is free to enforce their own policies (however outdated they may be), but at the end of the day, I want them to know those policies and lack of accommodations and support drove me to buy the same dress at another shop. I would advise interested brides to look for a boutique with better, more current business practices.

  When you sign the contract you sign that they aren't responsible for any mistakes!!

  When I first came to this store I fell in love with their pleasant attitude and willingness to accommodate to my short notice. I was so excited to my dream dress. When I agreed to buy it they had me sign on the contract that states they are NOT RESPONSIBLE for any kind of manufacture delays or mistakes. I ordered a pricey custom made gown. After 4 and 1/2 months The gown arrived 2 weeks late. it was so tight under the arms and not my size at all. The waist seem line was little under my breast instead of around my waist. You could clearly tell that the measures weren't correct. Diana and Meredith expressed their sadness and frustration and said that the designer changed the measures. When they called the designer she said they didn't take the measures correctly and they don't know how to take measures. The said that they will cut ties with that designer. But why would they hire an unreliable designer from the beginning. To fix the problem they suggested adding a matching belt to correct the waist, and offered to fix it for free for me. They made it feel like it was a courtesy that they are doing that for me and they are not responsible for designing mistakes made by the designers they hire. However the tailor was able to adjust the sleeve size but it showed that there was an alteration made, also the sleeve was very sing that i could barely dance in my wedding. They said it should be snug so it looks good, I believe this is not true because the bride has to be comfortable in her dress. The dress was ready 2 days before my wedding, and the belt they suggested didn't work, it kept shifting up when I was dancing so my mom had to use a pin to stable it. Unfortunately the belt adjustment was very obvious the entire wedding. When I called them requesting some refund, they said that we gave you discounts so we can't give you any discounts. They also said it's not their fault, it's the designer's fault. When I send them picture of how ugly the back of my dress looked because of the adjusted belt they simply ignored my email. They did work so hard to fix the dress I have to be honest, but I ended up with and altered dress, not very flattering wedding pictures regardless, and not one penny refunded.

  I want to thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry this situation occurred. As you said (to me in your last appointment and in your review) Joy Abendmode Bridal has worked very hard to resolve this situation. Thank you for recognizing our effort and care for our brides.
  
  Joy Abendmode has covered the $1000.00 alterations cost to resolve the manufacturer’s mistake. In addition, you received $600 in customizations and fees at no cost, and you were not charged a rush fee, which is normally over $300.
  
  This was the first such case with this designer, so there was no way for us to know this would happen. The clause in the agreement regarding manufacturer defects is a standard clause at most bridal boutiques. However, we have shown in good faith, we are with the bride until the end. As a result of this issue, we are getting rid of this designer. They have betrayed your trust and our trust, and as a result we are discontinuing them. We take this very seriously.
  
  We stand by our clients and care deeply that our brides’ big day is a success. We are very sorry for this unfortunate situation.
