This is a longer review, so TLDR: Joshua Rainey Photography is great, and you should hire him for your event or wedding!
After scouring the internet for portfolios and searching far and wide for a wedding photographer, I eventually stumbled upon Joshua Rainey’s website. I was extremely pleased with the clarity and detail of the photos, which maintain a realistic yet refined image without appearing over-processed in post. Upon contacting Joshua, my wife and I were met with prompt and courteous communication, which was maintained up to and through receiving our gorgeous finalized wedding photos.
Joshua lives in Oregon, but was able to travel to the Bay Area on two separate occasions for two full day photo shoots - one for an engagement shoot (which we partially decided to do to get to know him before the big day) and again a few months later with a second shooter for our wedding. You would think that this would be quite expensive, but we found that even with the travel and engagement shoot the final cost was actually less than what we were being quoted for by local bay area photographers to do the same thing.
At our first meeting in San Francisco, Joshua proved knowledgeable about the local area, provided good insight on what to bring and where would be good locations for the shoot. He also kept it not super formal or posed, which allowed us to feel more at ease and unstaged, leading to more natural photos. He is funny, kind, and compassionate, while still being professional. Once the finalized and edited photos were returned to us, we knew that we had definitely made the right decision.
Our second meeting during the “big day” he arrived early and ready to go, along with the second photographer he brought, and was able to capture great getting ready shots. He was able to direct the groups of people quickly and efficiently to get the photographs that we requested, along with many more that we wouldn’t have thought about. At the same time, he did not over-run or try to take control of the entire day, which is something that some other photographers are not quite as good at.
All in all, Joshua was a great photographer at a more than reasonable price, and a wonderful human. If either of us had to get married again (which hopefully we won’t), we would both make the same decision to hire him again, and you should too.

oshua made us feel comfortable and relaxed, yet he was totally efficient and professional. We had only chatted via telephone/email before our wedding day, and he had never even been to the venue, but he quickly understood our vision, our vibe and energy and captured it so perfectly. And most importantly, we LOVE how our photos turned out. We have so many to choose from! Highly highly recommend! -

Josh made all of our dreams come true with his album! He captured our first look, which is a memory that is forever ingrained as the happiest memory of my life. His shots were beautiful, and he got some amazing bubble photos! An absolutely outstanding photographer that was punctual, got good work done quickly, and was very friendly. All in all an amazing photographer! -

The total package photographer
My husband and I are so glad we hired Josh as our photographer. He is the total package - punctual, kind, flexible, responsive, and fun to spend time with - which is a pretty big deal on one of the most joyous days of your life! The photos that we got absolutely blew me away. I don't consider myself to be particular photogenic, but somehow Josh captured this magical glow to the entire day. He has great instincts and was so patient with my grumpy toddler. Everyone in my family loved him (including the kids and the dog!). Best decision of the day, hands down. -

Joshua is just great to work with. Wonderful man who is easy going and up to do anything. We had to deal with covid and then fires days before our wedding and he was still game to do anything and be anywhere. The day was beautiful and he captured it all. Your doing something of your not booking him! -

Josh seamlessly fits in with your day and captures every emotion and look - though you barely know he is there. He has such a gift for making everyone comfortable and finding genuine interactions to photograph. He’s super easy to coordinate with, very responsive, so great to work with, and gives you an insanely HUGE library of photos with no additional costs. (Also every photo is so beautiful it is unreal)
Hire Josh! You will have zero regrets and your pictures will be all the more perfect because of it! -

Josh is a very talented, professional, creative and fun photographer! I reached out to his business when I was first looking for a photographer for our wedding. He responded back to me super fast and he was very informative on what his style was and what the wedding packages included. He was very patient, didn't rush me into any decisions, and followed up with me on questions I had for him etc. I love how he related on a personal level and is very down to earth. Super easy going and excited about his work! I couldn't have been happier with how our wedding pictures turned out and how he interacted with us and our guest on the wedding day! -

Josh is a true Pro!
My wife and I feel so fortunate to have had Josh shoot our wedding. We were like so many who didn't know if we should get one or multiple photographers. He was up front with us about the advantages and disadvantages, and ultimately we only hired Josh. He was somehow all over the place, able to take many different angles, all while not being intrusive or noticeable (literally didn't know he was there). He was very friendly and easy to work with. He put us at ease during the whole process, and we couldn't be happier with the results! Thank you, Josh! Highly recommend :) -

Both my husband and I don't really like having our photo taken but Joshua made it a totally comfortable experience and we ended up with hundreds (literally over 1300) photos that we will treasure forever. He captured both the formal Catholic wedding and the outdoor reception beautifully. Joshua blended in so well at our wedding that guests thought he must be a second cousin and the beautiful photos showed how quick and comfortable he made everyone. Thank you for capturing our day! -

Josh is amazing and so talented!!!
When I first contacted Josh I had already contacted many photographers -- the difference with Josh, was that Michael and I both immediately felt a connection with him.
I found Josh online and his page got my attention because it was everything I was looking for in our wedding photographer! The style and just everything he was about when it came to his clients getting their photos!
Like I mentioned before, connection was huge for me when choosing our vendors for our wedding! Especially a photographer because they are capturing some pretty special and intimate moments. Josh was very easy to communicate with and he has been so fun to work with and get to know over this last year. We had fun hanging out with Josh for our engagement pictures and when it came time to our wedding day 5 months later we were both so comfortable with him!
For our wedding day we had both Josh and his wife Rachael! What an awesome couple!!!
Both Josh and Rachael are so talented and have an eye for detail. Michael and I being the way we are we appreciated every fix of our hair or making sure the little details were showing (for example Michael's watch)!
We love what you guys are about and love that you share a passion for photography and can do it together!

Josh is amazing to work with, takes incredible photos, and makes a great team with your vendors. I had the pleasure of meeting Josh while he photographed my best friend’s wedding in November 2017. After working with Josh, watching him interact with the wedding party and the guests, there was no question I had to have Josh photograph my wedding this year. Josh makes things so effortless, and you can trust him to get the best photos of your perfect day! Josh helps you think about the photos you want and ensures he captures your wishes. Absolutely amazing photographer
Keith captured our big day and we could not have asked for a more personable, talented person to do so! He made us all feel so comfortable, kept the day moving in accordance to the timeline, managed cranky kids in pictures and had the most unreal eye for where pictures would look best! He sent us sneak peeks the same night of our wedding and now we are DYING to see the rest! Keith does amazing work and we are so happy we found him to capture our big day! -

Great photographer for racially diverse families!
We were so lucky to get Joshua for our wedding! We got a ton of pictures, and they are so full of color! Joshua really listened to what we were looking for and then did that, with his own style and expertise.
Like most racially diverse couples/families, we were concerned about whether everyone would show up looking like themselves and not too washed out or too blurry--Joshua nailed it! No issues at all, just great pictures. :)
We asked for and got mix of candid shots (really important to us) and posed family and couple shots. Miraculously, everyone looks great in the group pics which I just can't believe! That never happens! And in the candid shots, Joshua was so unobtrusive that we didn't even know where he was and whether he'd captured those moments until we got the pictures back.
Joshua was willing to work with us for a reasonable price given that our event was so small (my mom called it a "micro-wedding"). He even went a step further and suggested we split the time and do a couple's photoshoot at another location that evening. We got two beautiful locations for our pics, and Joshua highlighted the best in each location, scouting out which areas would be the best backdrops. Even better, we were more relaxed when we didn't feel guests were waiting on us, and we got lovely sunset pictures at the location where we got engaged!
Joshua's wife, Rachel, is an amazing makeup artist and hair stylist (and apparently photographer, too--is there anything she can't do?) , and stepped in at the almost-last minute to do mine. She was so great to work with as well, and the confidence I got from having a professional do my make-up and hair showed through in our pictures. I would definitely work with them again! -

We met Joshua at a wedding showcase and liked him right away. We did an engagement shoot with him which was included in the package. He was professional, flexible, knowledgeable and made us feel at ease. Up until the wedding, he answered all of our questions and we felt confident he knew what we wanted. The day of he was much more than a photographer. He even helped us with other details like a dress malfunction and pocket squares! :) The second photographer was worth it, gave us different angles and more moments captured. We love the pictures and have a hard time choosing our "favorites". Our friends and family think they are amazing too. We would definitely recommend Joshua. -

Traci Sent on 04/03/2018Josh took beautiful photos of all of the fine details of the wedding, which, as a bride and groom, you don’t really get to look at on the big day. So, we were so thankful to have those photos.
Not only did Josh make sure to capture all of the precious moments throughout the day, he also put so much effort into the editing and quality of the photos. When we received our photos, we were shocked by how many we got back! However, we were also impressed by the fact that along with most photos, we were given multiple copies of pictures with different variations of editing.
Josh’s artistry and craft is beyond impressive! We are so in love with our photos, and would recommend him to anyone and everyone who needs photos taken! We hope to use him again in the future! -

He was also really good at knowing which poses and shots we as a group and individuals should be doing next, which helped with the timing of everything. Everything worked perfectly on the day of the wedding.
Then we got our photos back and they were out of this world! We had an idea we were getting some good shots at the time, but the final shots we received we just amazing. Josh is truly a great photographer and would recommend him to anyone! -

Tanya Sent on 03/31/2013Of all the things that are important about a wedding, the photography was close to #1 for us. We were 100% pleased with Joshua. Right from our first meeting we felt that he was easy to talk to and be around (important if you're spending the whole wedding day with someone). We had a blast doing our e-pics with him and were especially pleased with the pics. He even dropped off the pics at our house when they were finished! Joshua was great leading up to the wedding, answering long emails and questions really quickly. On the day of the wedding he was there early and stayed late. Him and his wife Rachel (2nd photographer) were absolutely amazing on the day of!! They were fun to be around and they were everywhere it seemed. My husband and I had a blast with them, they were great with our large wedding party (12 people), and somehow even managed to get the drunk groomsmen to cooperate for pictures with patience and ease :) Joshua and Rachel have slightly different styles which was a plus in that we got two approaches to our photos, both beautiful and amazing, yet different. They also were open to my requests and ideas, incorporating special pics that I wanted. Joshua had our photos edited and ready for us before we even were back from our honeymoon, in less than two weeks! We received almost 1400 (more than the minimum he promised us) amazing pictures. We ordered the package where we got a hard-drive with all the pics on it so we could do what we wanted with them, but after the wedding I also ordered some pics from his website (amazing quality) and the website was a breeze to order from and they came extremely fast. Bottom line, I would highly recommend them to take pictures at your wedding. In fact, their pictures were so good that Eugene Wedding Magazine sought out the pictures they took at our wedding and asked to feature our wedding. It was a pleasure having them at our wedding and we look forward to having them take pictures for other important events in our lives :) -

Jennifer Sent on 07/27/2011Joshua Rainey Photography is THE BEST! Joshua also did our engagement pictures in Nov. 2010. He traveled all the way to central Oregon to our family's ranch to do them. He and his wife, Rachel, are so fun to work with. His cost is very reasonable. He is creative and his pictures are beautiful! We have gotten so many compliments so far and inquiries about him from friends and family. My matron of honor even booked him right after our wedding for some anniversary pictures. Joshua Rainey Photography is EXACTLY what we were looking for in a photographer. We will use Joshua Rainey Photography for all of our family pictures, etc. in the future! -

Eric Sent on 09/16/2010Joshua is extremely professional, friendly, and his photography is amazing. For our wedding he produced exactly what he said he would. His style is photo-journalistic and that adds a really interesting angle to the pictures, and to the overall feel of the wedding album.
Aside from his great work, Joshua's prices and services can't be beat. He knows that all events work on different and often bizarre schedules, and so he makes it really easy to get the photography done by being on-call for the entire day around the event.
