Guys (especially gay ones), don't settle for a boring band! You deserve it!

When it came time to choosing our rings, we had a bear of a time finding anything we liked. We initially looked at the mainstream jewelry stores in the Milwaukee area, which was a complete waste of time. Milwaukee is the seventh level of hell for retail in the first place, and as a gay male couple, no mainstream jeweler had the slightest interest in serving our needs. Wedding sets? Only “hers-and-his”, with the “his” being some boring gold band that looked like it came from the claw pick-up game at Wal-Mart.

We wanted something of good quality and unusual, eye-catching without being gaudy. We wanted our rings to be similar enough to look like they belong together, and yet not identical, each being unique. In other words, like us! After an extensive online search, we found our answer with Jewelry by Johan. Located in St. Paul, MN, they weren’t exactly next door, but close enough to make a fun weekend trip that also allowed us to reconnect with some old friends.

We met with Brittani for our consultation. She brought out about 30 different rings of a wide variety of styles and materials to get some idea what we wanted. She also had another 5 that we picked out from the website, which helped to narrow our choices down. They have a truly amazing selection of stones, metals, even woods, dinosaur bones, meteorites… the sky is the limit in designing something that’s completely custom. We ordered tri-banded rings with lapis lazuli, meteorite, and a turquoise mosaic for my husband, and lapis lazuli, turquoise, and turquoise mosaic for me. We chose gold for the separating bands, and titanium bodies for durability. We were also given plastic sizer bands to wear home to be absolutely sure of the sizes.

Most importantly, Brittani made us feel welcome and respected, and priced our rings as a set. When we received our rings, they fit perfectly, and we were absolutely delighted with them. After all, why shouldn’t we be? We’re going to be wearing these for the rest of our lives!

Amazing & unique rings!

We ordered my husband's wedding band from here as he wanted a more unique material (meteorite). The ring is absolutely beautiful - so well crafted and unique. They are also extremely helpful and quick at responding to inquiries. Would recommend!

Beautiful Rings

My husband and I ordered our rings online from Jewelry by Johan. They custom made my ring with a slice of wood from one of my favorite backyard trees, and it turned out beautifully. They have a responsive emailing team and fair prices for the quality of their work. They send sizing kits so you can be sure that your ring will fit when it arrives. Make sure to order a custom sizing ring!! My ring fit perfectly when I received it.

Out of this world wedding band.

Wow. In love with my ring from JBJ. I studied aerospace engineering & am always inspired by science fiction. When I saw that meteorite was a material available for my wedding ring, I looked far and wide to find something that looked classy & manly, all at the same time. I went with JBJ's Rose Gold, Sandblasted Titanium, & Meteorite (3763) with a rounded profile and 2 months later I still can't stop looking at my ring.

The entire process was worldclass, from their customer service answering my questions, to getting a custom sizer, and the end quality. I can't recommend this company or ring enough. Thank you for making my wedding ring extra special with the engraving as well!

Bonus plus - my wife got me the JBJ Meteorite wedding tie pin as a wedding gift surprise that is also incredible. Thanks JBJ team!!! You all rock.

A Timeless Gift

Few and far between are the times I have been excited to write a review. This is one of those rare exceptions. Great service

We bought a custom ring that came apart 2 months of wear due to a sizing issue related to the warmer weather. We reached out and they were very helpful and offered to extend their sizing guarantee to us in order to solve the issue, even though the initial period was over. The ring is unique and beautiful and they were able to make sure that th is issue didn't interfe with out closely approaching wedding date.

Great Customer Service

The husband of a friend of mine got his wedding band from Jewelry By Johan and I was intrigued when I investigated the website. There are many different unique combinations of materials available for men's wedding bands, including meteorite and wood. I ultimately decided to go with a ring that includes Titanium, Purple Box Elder Burl Wood and Gibeon Meteorite. It looks beautiful in the pictures (see attached) and I can't wait to wear it once I'm married.

The post-purchase process was a little confusing at first because I had to pay an extra $24 for shipping insurance through USPS, which I either wasn't made aware or skipped over during checkout. The customer service team informed me of this.

I also wanted to get an engraving in Hebrew lettering on the inside of the ring. I wasn't aware at purchase that this needed to be done via.n image engraving as opposed to lettering, and that cost an extra $53.

However, what gives Jewelry By Johan a five-star rating in my book is that, when signing up with the website, I was sent a 20% off coupon, which got stuck in my spam inbox. I didn't see it until after I made my ring purchase. When I told the team about they retroactively applied the discount! What a treat.

I'm really looking forward to receiving my wedding band (purchased Dec.21, and they say it should ship around Feb. 5). Thanks for the great customer service!

Beautiful Custom Work!

We ordered my husband's wedding band from Jewelry by Johan and were incredibly impressed with their process and quality of work. So much so, that I had his tie clip and cufflinks custom made to match for the wedding. They were great in working with me on the creation - even sending me photos of the different pieces of flame box elder burl so I could pick which piece I wanted to use. Everything turned out perfectly! Would definitely recommend 100%!!!

Rings with creativity

The staff at Johan's helped us design the perfect ring for my husband. We loved the different selection of materials and that we could see a sketch before we decided on the right ring. Great customer service! I made a mistake when ordering and they were quick to help resolve the issue. They also offered amazing customer service when my husband's ring was dropped and broke about two weeks after the wedding. Great customer service goes a long way.

Great ring!

I purchased my husband's wedding band here, gold with a meteorite inlay. These kinds of rings can't be resized, so absolutely buy the custom sizers and wear them for several days before deciding. Make sure you wear it when you're both hot and cold.

He loves his ring and gets a ton of compliments. They were great to work with.

Stunning Ring

My husband wanted something traditional but unique for his wedding band. When I found Jewelry by Johan I knew it was the place! The staff is all very friendly and accomodating. I ordered a custom wedding band from them. I loved one of the designs but the width of the ring was too large for my comfort so I got it reduced a few millimeters. I thought the price would go through the roof since that meant the ring would now be a custom design but the price actually dropped appropriately! I love my ring. The quality of the final product and their excellent customer service leaves nothing else to be desired really.

I live in FL and was scouring the internet trying to find the right ring. We went to EVERY jewelry store locally with no luck. We wanted something different, something that would make a lasting impression on both my hubby and myself. We found that specially ring at JBJ. The ENTIRE process was done over email and online. They made it so easy for me to order it, proof it and figure out the size. I don't know how i would have done that without the help of Megan and Kristen at JBJ. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS GREAT!!!!!! Any custom ring order that i have in the future i will definitely be using JBJ.

I had heard about Jewelry by Johan and their dinosaur bone rings online and my fiance' was immediately hooked into getting one as his wedding band for our nuptials in March. We decided after much back and forth and several emails with the helpful staff at Jewelry by Johan to purchase one of their sandblasted titanium rings with dinosaur bone and meteorite with an inner engraving all for a reasonable price. The ease of ordering and purchasing the ring with the refundable sizer made the whole process stress-free and eliminated any worries or concerns about ordering a ring online that we would have to return. The ring arrived on time and exactly as pictured, in additional we were able to choose the shade of dinosaur bone we wanted from the available options. My husband is so happy with his ring that we cannot thank you enough for all of your help. It is truly a unique and one of a kind ring that reflects our tastes and interests and made our big day extra special.

They were quick to respond when I requested a custom order and worked with me throughout the process, which was very easy. I never felt lost or unsure. They sent a free set of ring sizers, and when we'd figured out our sizes, they made our custom rings to order. The rings just showed up today, and they're brilliant. Everyone at Jewelry by Johan is amazing! I spent several months chatting with different ladies and emailing with different ladies in order to design the perfect 'his and hers' custom wedding bands specific to our different heritage. Talk about patience and being knowledgeable! I even made a mistake with my band by not measuring out the width on my finger first, and they were completely accommodating when I sent it back.
2 pieces of advice: 1) order THEIR sizers and follow the directions before you order your rings because they will shape the sizer to the style of ring you're interested in (because we chose rounded bands, they fit differently than the angular and quite beat-up sizer we tried on at a random jeweler's), and 2) literally take a ruler and measure the width of the ring you want to wear, this way you make sure you like it (I accidentally ordered a style ring that, although beautifully striped with the materials I chose, was way too wide for my finger, especially when worn adjacent to my engagement ring).
I highly recommend these folks... not only because they can custom every unique idea out there, but also because they are so kind and genuinely helpful.

I have the coolest wedding ring on the planet. The absolutely beautiful meteorite, green box elder burn, and beveled black ceramic ring weighs next to nothing, but it's sturdy. It is super unique and fits perfectly. I can't stress to you all enough: If you are looking for something different, something greater than the mundane gold band your fiance might have suggested (mine actually loved the meteorite idea), order your ring from Jewelry by Johan. There was a small crack in my meteorite strip, so they emailed me a shipping label, fixed it to literal perfection, and mailed it back; the whole process took 5 days. Johan is a BOSS and I will cherish my ring for the rest of my life. Also, thanks to Kirstin, Michelle and Leanna and everyone else that makes their customer service so on point. As far as best decisions I have ever made in my life, this is right up there with buying a motorcycle and proposing to my future wife. Much appreciated, Dan

My husband and I purchased matching rings made of titanium, with wood and gold stripes from Jewelry by Johan. His is slightly wider than mine - they worked with us on the widths to the best of their abilities. The rings are beautiful and really special to us. We've only been wearing them for a month, so I can't give a long term review, but so far, we're both really happy with them. I imagine we'll have to send them in to be Ring Armored (a service Johan provides to protect wooden rings) every once in a while, as far as upkeep goes, but otherwise, they seem pretty durable and are still beautiful. If you're looking for something unique or that might make a statement, Jewelry by Johan is the place to look!

Awesome experience. They are the inlay masters! I went to a couple of other vendors I found on pintrest, and those vendors had no customer service. It was as if it was "their way or the highway" vs "the customer is always right." I was recommended Jewelry by Johan by a work associate. The team at Jewelry by Johan was very professional, answered all my questions (and I had plenty as I have never shopped for jewelry before), and was able to customize the ring exactly to my specifications.

The team of Jewelry by Johan was amazingly helpful and friendly: We ordered our wedding rings really shortly before the ceremony and they were able to send us our rings just in time. We are very thankful for their efforts! We love the design, quality and fit of our rings and couldn't wish for anything better. During the process of deciding on the design, I called them often and they were always nice and eager to help and provide assistance. My husband chose a ring with meteorite and dinosaurier bone and the office send us several pictures of possible bones that are in stock such that my husband could choose the texture and colour he prefered. When I found out that meteorite contains nickel, to which I am highly allergic, they helped me to redesign the ring I wanted with stardust instead of meteorite and now, I really love my ring and couldn't imagine a more beautiful ring! I purchased the METEORITE WEDDING BAND WITH DINOSAUR BONE-1696 ring. It took about 6 weeks to come in, which was stated when I bought the ring. Its a mix of meteorite, dinosaur fossil and koa wood. The ring is spectacular. I am concerned about up keep, you are supposed to use alcohol on the meteorite but keep it away from the rest, soap on the bone but not on the wood, but the armor should help, however, I am just going to take it off when I have to get my hands wet or dirty.

Wonderful ring and I can't wait to wear it.

I ordered my fiance's wedding band from Jewelry by Johan and I am very very happy! The red, white, and blue ring with meteorite was crazy difficult to custom make anywhere else and the other prices were through the roof! On our first dating anniversary, my now husband gave me a necklace with a heart on it made from a meterorite. When we got engaged, it seemed natural that we would get wedding bands inlaid with meteorite. I did a search, and Jewelry by Johan kept coming up. I looked through his catalog on Etsy, and found a wide range of offerings in every price range. Since we were trying to stick to a strict budget, we decided on simple bands made of titanium and inlaid with meteorite. Jewelry by Johan was very responsive and communicative, even providing sizing bands made to our specifications to make sure the rings would fit perfectly, since the meteorite bands can't be resized. Once we confirmed our sizes, we received our rings within a month, and we are thrilled with how they turned out. They are exactly what we wanted, and even came with specific instructions on how to properly care for them. Very high quality work at reasonable prices.

My husband & I are both science educators, so when we found out we could get wedding rings made of dinosaur bone, we knew they were perfect for us! Jewelry by Johan worked with us from the beginning, answering questions and recommending sizes. They even sent us a few pictures so we could pick which piece of dinosaur fossil we wanted our rings to be made from. When our officiant announced that our rings were made of titanium and dinosaur bone during the ceremony, a knowing chuckle came from most of our guests! My wife and I ordered rings for our wedding bands from Johan. The process, payment schedule, and option to design our rings ourselves was seamless. The detail of the meteorite and dinosaur on our rings is superb. My fiance loved his meteorite ring. I have a moissanite stone so we thought it would be cool to have an alternative stone/ metal for his ring as well. He can't stop telling everyone about it. I am so excited about my husband's wedding ring, from www.distinctlyjohan.com I had to post this review. We're a very unique couple - my husband is an animator/video artist, and I work in advertising, and we wanted a wedding and jewelry to reflect that. Making the wedding unique and reflect our love and personalities was easy (well, it wasn't easy, it was a lot of work, but I could control all of that); finding rings that suited our styles and reflected our individual and unique personalities was not easy - until I found Johan's shop: www.distinctlyjohan.com. His products are gorgeous, but that's not what compelled me to write the review - the experience was so easy, stress-free and rewarding, I needed to share.

I created a custom ring for my husband - they worked with me on every detail, from materials, to metal polish to edge profile. They know their materials inside and out, so they gave great advice on how to care for the ring, and strongly suggested I get the ring armor (waterproofing for wood - I got it and I'm so glad I did!). It's absolutely perfect in every way, and I know I'll never see another ring like it.

We love the ring and the experience so much, we're in the process of designing one for me too - a bit more traditional since it has diamonds in it, but unique and individual all the same.

We ordered both our wedding bands from Jewelry by Johan through Etsy.com. The work took a surprisingly long time because of the small nature of the business, the custom product, and the demand for their work. It was absolutely worth the 12-week wait though, because we adore our rings. We wanted something totally different and meaningful to us. Johan and family were very accommodating, creating our custom rings from redwood and titanium (his) and redwood and rose gold (hers). They arrived the week of the wedding, but the rings looked and fit great, so we had no problems.

I recommend contacting them as early as possible, in case you need to resize your ring or if there is a problem with the order. You'll want to avoid having to rush the shipment and worry about its arrival.

Johan was prompt, professional and personable. Our rings were ready for pick up when promised. We had wood delivered to him, as we live out of state, and he handled the entire transaction as promised.

We love the rings and to have a wooden inlayed band from the tree in which we stole our first kiss under is very memorable for us.

Johan, we thank you for delivering for our wedding. I would recommend you to anyone. As a woodworker I have tried to make a wooden ring in the past with no success. I had a great experience with them. Highly recommend. Both my fiancé and my rings were purchased from them, and they are gorgeous. His was meteorite and dinosaur bone with a gold pinstripe that was a design off their website, and mine was a custom piece, meteorite and a trillion cut Mozambique garnet. Both of them exceed our high expectations. We got to choose between several dinosaur bone samples, and I was able to be very specific about the kind of garnet I wanted. My ring was the same price range as the similar ring I used as a basis for the design, but Scott's was more expensive, though his ring size is very large- he's a big guy, 6'6"- so it made sense. Our rings took 8 weeks, and arrived a week before the 9 weeks we were told. I recommend getting a ring sizer- they make them in your specific size and ring width and finish, so you can tell exactly how the final ring will fit.

I recently purchased my wedding band from JBJ, there was almost as much anxiety over selecting my ring as picking out my fiance's. I knew that I wanted something unique, something that would stand out amongst a crowd of standard traditional metal rings. I consider myself an avid outdoorsman and sportsman and found JBJ's antler rings to be right up my alley. The staff at JBJ was very helpful and patient through the whole process. I know I probably wasn't the easiest client to work with as I was very particular about my specifications. I was sent several sample pictures via email of the materials that were going to be used to create my ring. This made things easier and more difficult at the same time. Easier because I could see what would be used but more difficult because they have so many options to chose from which I guess is also a positive.

After receiving my finished ring in the mail I just wasn't satisfied. The end result just didn't capture what I had hoped and wasn't reflecting the samples that I had been shown. When I notified JBJ they stood by their product/service and wanted to make sure I was satisfied. They asked me to return the ring and they immediately started the process of making me a new ring, one that I certainly would like and want to wear forever. They spent even more time and energy ensuring that my ring would be just right...I received my new ring this week and it is perfect.

They did a great job and were very helpful during what could have been a very stressful time when trying to get a new ring. They truly are masters of their craft and I appreciate their willingness to stand by their product and business and ensure my happiness which they definitely did. I highly recommend JBJ.

If someone had told me that's what they'd ordered for themselves prior to seeing this ring, I would've questioned their style and judgement. The moment my fiancé sent me a link to “meteorite wedding bands” I knew Jewelry by Johan would be making his band. He wanted to be an astronomer when he was a child, and even when he didn’t, he continued his interest and love in all things space related. If you do decide to go with Jewelry by Johan, I’d recommend submitting a quote once you pick out a style you like;it’s not clear on the site the prices for meteorite rings can fluctuate based on the price of the materials. I had started saving for the price listed and submitted a quote once I got closer in range, only to discover the price for meteorite went up. However, once I provided the width and size of ring, it was less than the listed price so it worked out in the end! The quality and look of the rings are well worth it; the look on my fiance’s face when he tried his ring on on proved it.

I wanted to get my husband a unique wedding band. When I stumbled across Jewelry by Johan on the internet I knew that I had found the right ring for him. I read that the ring would not be able to be resized due to the materials, so I was afraid to just order the ring. I called customer service and they told me that I could order sizers for $10 each, have my guy wear them to figure out his correct size, send them back and they refund your $10. I did what they suggested and the sizers came very quickly. I ordered a meteorite with black pinstripes (product #1661) that looked great on the website. I had several conversations with customer service with various questions and they were always responsive. We were very excited to receive the ring.
When it came it included a paper that stated that he should never get the ring wet. It seems that meteorite is made of iron and any chemicals in liquid could cause the ring to rust. They offer ring guard, but cannot guarantee that the ring won't rust. This would have been a problem regardless of who we ordered a meteorite ring from. They have many other materials that I'm sure don't react the same way. We ended up asking for a refund, which they did provide.
The customer service was highly responsive. They clearly care about the business that they work for and want to make your experience a good one. Although it did take a bit of back and forth in order to come to resolution, it is outside their policy to issue cash refunds. Ultimately we did receive the refund. I am giving Johan 5 stars in everything except for value, and that is just my opinion of the material itself.

We loved the idea of having custom rings made and were so excited to find Johan's meteorite rings on etsy! We ended up ordering via his web site, communication was a bit slow after we sent him funding as we found out he was on vacation by a posting on his etsy site - which would make anyone nervous with such an important online purchase! However, the rings arrived on time, fit perfectly and were gorgeous! We love them.

The only concern I had was the rusting factor of the meteorite, which wasn't fully explained (but scientifically understandable). Some of my detail photo shots of my ring shows a lining of rust. I now know from researching on my own, that this can be eliminated by soaking occasionally in alcohol. It would have been nice to have a 'how to care for meteorite' sheet included with purchase so I could have cleaned the bit of rust off before the wedding.

If you order any of the rings online above 7mm, they will need to charge you for additional materials via email after payment is processed. However, the rings are beautiful and are made with high quality materials (which is why increasing size costs more). Customer service responded quickly with my concerns via email and even called.

Unique Creations

Lucky me, I got to design my engagement ring. It is a really interesting piece with an opal and a diamond, in a swirling band with meteorite inlay. The designing process was pretty cool how they use a program to show a model. When we got it, the bezel needed to be redone and that took a long time. My husband was surprised they sent it in the condition they did but we got it all fixed up. I love meteorite, but it doesn't stay shiny and scratchy very long, just so you know if that's what you want. I'm very happy with my beautiful custom creation and now it's mine to cherish!

Started out great until the ring had a loose stone, even after the repair it wasn't "fixed".

First off, the ring itself is beautiful. I chose to get the Peridot meteorite ring and I do absolutely love it. We were married on 7/15/21 and by October 2021 the stone had already fallen out.

I am very careful with it and don't even shower with it on for fear that I would lose the stone as I could tell that it was loose but thought maybe that was just the way the stone is supposed to sit, I didn't think anything of it until it actually fell out.

I contacted them and sent it in ($50 to ship it insured.) and they got back to me that it would be December 2021 before I got it back and that the stone was chipped so I would need to buy a new one. I did without question because I do love my ring. I received the repaired ring back on 11/29/21 and was happy to have my ring back. Within 2 days I can hear that the rattle is back and their solution is to send it back in to them. At $50 dollars to ship it I cannot keep sending the ring back. So now I have a very beautiful ring that I can't even wear as the stone is still loose.

They have been very good about responding and communicating, but the whole point of having a beautiful wedding ring is to actually be able to wear it. I have never had this or any issue with jewelry in the past so I don't believe I am rough on it or anything like that. Unfortunately I won't be doing any further business with them as it is just too costly if you have to send it back multiple times.

I will say that the men's wedding band with an inlay of dinosaur, green alder wood and meteorite is perfect and has no issues. It has held up just fine, and doesn't look to have any issues.

Scam. Don't buy from Jewelry by Johan. Bought 2 meteorite wedding bands from Jewelry by Johan in May of 2016. Meteorite is supposed to have naturally occurring widmanstätten patterns that make them unique. Such rings have specific care instructions in order to maintain their look. Well, after 3 months these patterns were already disappearing on our rings despite the fact that we babied them.

We ordered a Meteorite ring and they kept getting the order wrong. We had MANY emails back and forth making sure all the details were right on the order - for example the size, finish, and shape of the ring were wrong, then they'd fix one but not the others and so on. It took forever to get it right! Then they said the order would be ready to be picked up a full week before the wedding, but it was not. It ended up being ready the day before the wedding, but they did send us a "stand-in" ring because they thought it wouldn't be ready in time. We had to send someone else to pick the ring up because we didn't have time to go and get it, but they were fine with that.

Like we saw in other reviews, they increase the price after they charge you the initial amount. They refuse to provide any information after repeated requests about why and how it costs more... on the website they say the price is a starting point but we ordered the exact specifications and size on the website. When the time came that they requested more money, they took down the specifications on the website... I really wish I had taken a screen shot!!!
We saw many other jewellers that provided a similar service but had a less polished website... In hindsight we would have went with another similar (and less expensive) custom jeweller that does not demand more money without providing more details.

P.S. It wasn't the cost of precious metals, they went down from when we first paid to when Jewelry by Johan asked for more money.

Where is all the gold?!?!

I was a repeat customer of Jewelry by Johan, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I placed an order for a ring on November 28, 2025, and the ring was shipped on January 5, 2026 via USPS with signature required. On January 8, USPS marked the package as delivered and “signed for,” but neither my wife nor I were home that day. I immediately notified JBJ that the ring had not been received.

JBJ only became responsive after I opened a credit card dispute and filed a BBB complaint. During that time they told me a replacement ring was being remade, but later admitted that the remake had never actually been started.

On February 10, the original ring unexpectedly appeared in our mailbox weeks after it had supposedly been delivered. When I compared it to the same model ring I purchased from JBJ in 2023, the new ring appeared to contain significantly less gold, despite the price being much higher.

I requested a refund and returned the ring on March 2, 2026, with delivery confirmed on March 9. JBJ has acknowledged receiving the returned ring, yet they still have not issued the refund.

Overall: poor communication, misleading information about the remake, and refusal to refund merchandise that has already been returned. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Jewelry by Johan.

We were promised our ring by a certain date, and then were called 1 week prior to our wedding saying we wouldn't have it. During our initial consultation we told the sales rep that if they could not guarantee we would have the ring at least 1 week before our wedding, we would go elsewhere to purchase our ring. Since she guaranteed the date we had the ring paid in full, with cash, less that 1 week after our consultation (1 week prior to the requested date). When I questioned this guarantee the day I was told we wouldn't have the ring on time, they said they could never guarantee anyone a date when working with the product that they do. The offer of a 'stand in' ring that looked nothing like what we had ordered was a slap in the face. I will not purchase anything in the future or recommend this business to anyone.
