Wonderful officiant

Jan was a wonderful officiant and day of planner for our wedding. She was professional and gave timely communication. She walked us through the whole wedding process, always making sure we knew what was happening. She got to know us and wrote a beautiful ceremony that was funny and inspiring.

Beautiful ceremony!

Jan was incredible! She wrote a beautiful ceremony for our wedding. She was also so professional, organized, and prepared. We really appreciated how she made sure the wedding party knew what they needed to, gave us unique and thoughtful ideas to use during the ceremony, and truly made us feel comfortable. She was responsive to emails and always answered any questions we had. We love that she took the time to get to know us, and her ceremony felt unique and perfect for us. She was such an important part of making our wedding day special. I would not hesitate to recommend her! Thank you Jan!

Jan made our ceremony so unique to us and special!

Jan was organized and friendly from our first meeting. She helped us figure out all the things we weren’t even aware we were supposed to be doing! My husband and I have 4 children between us and we really wanted them to be as much apart of the big day as we were. Jan did just that. We got multiple compliments on her when the ceremony was done. I highly recommend.

A great officiant, coordinator and a truly wonderful person.

We were so happy that Jan came into our lives. We liked her immediately when we met her and knew we wanted her to be a part of our wedding. She's warm, friendly, helpful, and obviously truly enjoys what she does and we could tell she really cared about us as people and as a couple. We hired Jan to both officiate our wedding and to be our day-of coordinator and honestly couldn't recommend her highly enough. She was amazing. She will make absolutely sure your wedding day is every bit as special as it should be.

When we first met with Jan we were in way over our heads with wedding planning and were just about to be out of the country for almost a month and wouldn’t return until shortly before our wedding. Although at first we were only interested in hiring her to officiate our wedding it quickly became apparent from her questions and suggestions and interest in our situation that she would be perfect as our coordinator as well. She was immediately invested in us on a personal level. She’s easy to talk to, easy to trust, easy to open up to, and funny. She was like a friend who we knew would have our backs while we were gone. Jan made the day run smoothly and put together a truly thoughtful, touching and sincere ceremony. She really took the time to get to know us and the words she spoke during the ceremony were beautiful and perfectly appropriate for the two of us. Obviously we were both really impressed with her and would recommend Jan to anyone who wants to make sure their wedding day is full of good vibes! She’s great!

Absolutely Wonderful Officiant - Will Move Mountains To Bring Your Ceremony the Value it Deserves

Jan was fantastic for our wedding. Not only did she take the time to understand us, our story, and our vision for our wedding, but she then went the extra mile to surprise us and make the ceremony more than we expected it to be. Beyond perfect!

Jan helped make our wedding so incredibly special. She captured our love perfectly and we couldn't have dreamed of a more perfect ceremony. We received complements all evening regarding Jan and her beautiful ceremony! We are so thankful for her and would choose her again and again!

Jan is such a lovely and sweet person who makes you feel warm and welcomed from the moment you meet her. You know her heart and passion is in making each couple she works with feel valued, special, and that nothing matters more than YOUR big day! My husband and I are extremely thankful for Jan! Jan had us meet with her in person and was extremely sweet and easy to talk to. We are a young couple and planned to have a very small wedding, so we didn’t really know how we wanted the ceremony to go. Jan asked questions to get to know us and created the perfect ceremony for our small family setting. She made us feel so comfortable while we were up there and walked us through every bit of it. I would 100% recommend Jan to anyone getting married.

Wonderful Ceremony, Amazing Service

Jan is simply awesome. I had to plan my wedding from 4 hours away. Then add on navigating my complex family relations, it was overwhelming at time. Jan was there to reassure me that everything would be just fine and she always had a plan. Our ceremony was wonderful. She made a beautiful, personal, and non-religious ceremony (as per our request). If I could go back I would have hired her as my coordinator as well. She's worth it.

A great experience!

Planning a wedding long-distance wasn't easy, but Jan made our ceremony one of the highlights of the day. We hired her after exchanging a few e-mails and we met with her in person several months before the ceremony. She was very warm and personable, and asked us both questions that made us think about our love for each other. I would highly recommend her to anyone who needs a wedding officiant in the Tacoma area!

Jan was wonderful!!! Our ceremony was beautiful. Jan made it so personal and it was like a close friend was performing it for us. Everything we could have ever wanted and so much more. She included our hand fasting and our own vows and it flowed so well with the portion she wrote. I would recomend Jan to anyone who asked. If you want a personal, romantic, heart warming ceremony that speaks to who you are as a couple Jan is who you should choose!

Jan is a consummate professional. Even though she has a lot of clients, she always made us feel like we were the only ones! Our ceremony was beautiful and went perfectly, no small part to Jan's hard work in organizing it. Her words during the ceremony brought both laughter and tears. We'd recommend her to anyone!

We are so glad that Jan officiated at our wedding, our ceremony was perfect. She worked so hard to create a memorable day and a ceremony that was uniquely us. Jan is wonderful! The best advice I got from my venue owner was to hire a day of coordinator. We hired Jan as our officiant and day of coordinator and she made sure everything ran smoothly. Jan kept us on schedule throughout the day and evening. I don't know what we would have done without her! There were so many moving parts both before and during the wedding, she kept us on track. I strongly recommend hiring her.

Jan was absolutely wonderful! We knew within the first few minutes of meeting with her that she was the officiant for us! She showed genuine interest and care when it came to getting to know us as a couple, our journey, our culture/religion, and our wedding overall. Jan was there for us as more than just an officiant, offering advice and resources for our wedding planning process. Our ceremony was personal and beautiful because of Jan's sweet words and all the time she invested in our story. If you are considering Jan as your officiant you will be in love with how personable, accommodating, and kind she is from the moment you meet her through even after your ceremony. We hired Jan to our wedding and it don't regret a thing. Jan met with us prior to any contract being signed for a couple of hours. After that meeting, we decided to book her. She was super helpful and the ceremony was perfect. She was very responsive via email and phone when needed. High Recommend!

Jan was AMAZING! At our first meeting we felt an instant connection to Jan that screamed “she’s the one!” Throughout our subsequent meetings, she took the time to learn our background and really understand our love story. She offered valuable tips and ideas that she had accumulated throughout her years of experience as an officiant and a wedding coordinator which helped make our wedding day that much more special. Throughout the entire wedding planning process, we
felt that Jan was working with us, not for us, and it was nice having that kind of relationship in which we could trust the advice being given was in the best interest of our wedding. For our wedding ceremony, Jan wrote a beautiful ceremony that included our 8-year-old daughter. It was such a special moment that it brought tears to our daughter’s eyes, and to many of the guest in attendance as well! Even though you know we both love to write, words will be hard to find to express how grateful we are for the service you performed at our wedding July 7th, 2018. Jan was an amazing officiant. She met with us, learned about us and custom-tailored a ceremony for us that everyone loved. It hit all the right heart strings and we felt it especially captured our feelings towards one another and our family. She was willing to work with us in changing her schedule to accommodate our late rehearsal dinner. She integrated everything we asked for and even offered her own opinions on what we should add. She was very professional and made us feel right at ease. She made sure everything on our big day ran smooth. I would not hesitate to refer Jan to anyone that needed an officiant for their wedding. Where do we begin? Now that the wedding is done, we look back and are so happy and thankful to have had Jan as our officiant. When we first met her, she was all smiles and very welcoming, especially to us as we’re a same-sex couple. She took the time to really get to know us, our history, our backgrounds, religion and so forth. Jan asked more questions than we had thought of and for every question we had, she was open and patient. During our rehearsal, our large family was impressed with how well she was able to handle a huge crowd, while staying professional and friendly. She was super organized and detailed, which made our wedding ceremony to turn out exactly as we hoped it would be. She offered her ideas and listened to ours. Jan was early and spoke with our wedding party and vendors to ensure things would work well. Her words were touching and she had triple checked with us that a few dates and details were spot on. A big bonus is that she has a great sense of humor. We recommend Jan to all couples who are looking for someone who won’t give the general ceremony… she will give you a ceremony to remember full of love and happiness. 5+ stars and more for sure! Jan is AMAZING! I felt an instant connection with her and immediately new she was the perfect person to officiate our wedding. She was both professional and personal at the same time. It was evident that she has a passion for marrying people and is invested in their personal story to create an intimate/special ceremony completely catered to who they are as a couple. She supported and helped us create a ceremony better than we imagined with very personal touches that were meaningful to my husband and me. She is a wealth of knowledge and experience. She understands the structure and flow of a wedding ceremony, whether it's large or small. She exudes warmth and kindness and has a beautiful heart. I like to think of her as my "wedding angel"! Jan was fantastic! She was prompt, responsive and flexible. (You know how the weather can be in WA). And she even made sure we understood what to do with the paperwork. Additionally, the ceremony she wrote was sweet and specifically tailored to us. It made my spouse cry. I highly recommend Jan, and if you retain her, you'll be glad you did.

I wanted a courthouse wedding but none of the judges got back to me so i went online to look for an officiant. I read reviews and Jan seemed like a good choice. I sent her an email and she replied back shortly after. The next day i had my wedding. She even found a really nice chapel for us. She is a really nice person. I definitely recommend her.

Jan was absolutely amazing to work with! My husband and I decided to elope prior to a big move across country and while planning a large wedding later for friends and family. Jan is absolutely the best choice we could have made to officiate our wedding . Professional, down to earth , flexible and all together a very easy experience. She met with us to talk about what we wanted or didn't want in our vows. She was getting to know us as a couple to personalize our vows and we had fun chatting with her as well .
When the day arrived she absolutely made the day special with the vows she wrote for us . it seemed as if she knew us forever as i could tell she really listened to our story when we met one on one. I absolutely loved it!!
She defintely has my highest recommendation for anyone looking for a wedding officiant.

Jan did an amazing job by making our elopement meaningful and customized to our needs. She really listened to us and our story and tailored our ceremony to fit our wishes. Jan went above and beyond for us she was more than our officiant. She helped keep everyone on track and made sure that everything ran smoothly during rehearsal and the day of. She had an upbeat personality and was easy to communicate with.

Jan is kind, sweet, and very professional. She will tailor your wedding to your wants and needs. From the moment we contacted her, she was prompt with her communication and was willing to go out of her way to make sure that we were all set before the wedding; even offering to meet us at the venue before our wedding date to talk through the details. She was also very accommodating to the fact that we were blending families and made the ceremony just as special for the kids as it was for us. I am so glad she was a part of our special day and highly recommend her for future weddings!

We first experienced Jan as she officated our friends' wedding, and we immediately sought out her contact information as we both knew we had to have her officiate at our wedding. From the very beginning we absolutely loved working with Jan! She is not only professional and kind, but she took the time to meet with us on several occasions to learn our story and ask us questions to get to know us better as a couple. Jan went above and beyond our expectations in personalizing our ceremony through what she had gleamed from our previous meetings and she was instrumental in preparing us for the big day. It was so reassuring to have her there with us, knowing she had everything under control during the entire ceremony. Jan also helped communicate with our DJ and Caterer throughout the ceremony & reception to make sure the rest of the evening flowed smoothly. Our family and friends all complimented her telling us what a wonderfully fun & entertaining ceremony she had helped to create. Several of our friends have already expressed interest in having Jan officiate at their upcoming ceremonies. Jan stayed and enjoyed the entire reception with us and our guests, and needless to say, we now view Jan as a true, close friend. We cannot praise Jan highly enough, and we would absolutely recommend her services. Thank you, Jan, for a beautiful, unforgettable wedding we will cherish forever.

I can't say enough good things about Jan Smillie. She is truly heaven sent. My husband and I had the pleasure of having Jan officiate our wedding just a few weeks ago and I still have my guests commenting on how absolutely beautiful and touching it was. From the very beginning we absolutely loved working with Jan! She is not only professional and kind, but she is extremely easy to talk to and has a great sense of humor! Jan always returned our calls, texts and emails quickly, she was very understanding about last minute changes that we made and overall is completely amazing. We highly recommend Jan for your Officiating needs! She was absolutely the best! We met with her a few weeks prior to our ceremony- she learned our story and asked us questions to get to know us better as a couple. She made our ceremony so personal and funny and we received so many compliments from our friends and family. We did not get to have a consultation or even meet Jan before our ceremony because we were working on a VERY short time frame. We scheduled her on August 3rd, to do our ceremony on August 15th. Also, at 9 in the morning!!! Jan was so willing and easy to get a hold of.
I emailed her our information and a little story about how my fiance and I grew to fall in love. We were actually LATE to our 9am ceremony - and family was late as well - so we didn't start until 9:30am. Jan was totally easy going and never made us feel rushed even though it was our fault for starting late! We were also worried it was going to rain (outside ceremony), and Jan said she was totally fine with getting lightly rained on (as long as it wasn't down pouring!); she was SO willing to help make our day perfect. Luckily, the rain stayed away!

What she said at our ceremony was BEYOND what I would have even hoped or wished for. I was expecting a quick "I Do" traditional verse, but Jan added SO much more. Great stories, and the "red string" legend - she also made it personal for my fiancé and I based on the story I wrote her via email. She dressed appropriately and was not late even though we were! She gave us great information about our marriage license and she TRULY blew us away!

She also carries tissues for the bride and groom just in case =)

I HIGHLY recommend her. She went above and beyond for us, and also emailed me what she said during the ceremony so I can remember it forever.

Jan was great! We threw our wedding together in less than 6 weeks and she had no problem accommodating us on such a short notice! We ending up having a very small ceremony in Pioneer Park in Puyallup and Jan helped make our ceremony unique and special for us. The day of the wedding called for rain :( and Jan was in contact me with the day before offering back up plans which I thought was great! She went above and beyond for our small ceremony! Thanks Jan!

Jan went above and beyond to make our ceremony truly memorable and special. We started later than scheduled and not once did she show impatience or make us feel rushed. Jan took her time with our ceremony to ensure it was personal, impressionable to our guests and encompassed the meaning of committing two souls to one life together. She took into account spiritual beliefs, history of the relationship, personal values and incorporated them into the vows and ceremony speech to really allow it to reflect the personality of my Husband and I. I cannot express how much we LOVED working with Jan, or "Aunt" Jan as she was affectionately named by the end of our time together. Her level of professionalism and knowledge put us at ease from the early planning stages to the rehearsal through the wedding day. Jan was amazing with taking charge, and making sure things ran smoothly with our venue as well. We received so many compliments on our ceremony which she worked to personalize for us. We felt like Jan went over and above her officiant duties. My only disappointment is that "Aunt" Jan won't be at our next family gathering, because that's how she felt by the end, just part of the family.

Jan did an amazing job officiating our wedding. The ceremony was touching and heartfelt and was so incredibly perfect for us. She took the time to get to know us and really helped make the day our own. Our guests were also extremely impressed with how well she seemed to know us and how well the ceremony fit us. She added the perfect amount of humor and love and gave us a ceremony that was unique and beautiful.
She was very flexible with scheduling appointments and allowing me to pop into the chapel to take a few pictures and show the space to my family before my big day.

We did not have an officiant when we went to meet with her for the Chapel tour. We loved her personality and willingness to make it our unique special day so much we decided to ask her to marry us. We planned a small wedding and had concerns that the ceremony would be too short. She customized it to fit our personalities and customized it to fit our needs. With all the stress that goes into wedding planning I can honestly say the ceremony was the easiest part for us. Jan was able to adapt on the fly and help us get our vows out which is easier said than done. Liz and I thank you for making it so easy.

Our wedding was PERFECT! And we have Jan to thank for that!!! We planned our wedding in 5 months and everything went so smoothly. I actually found Jan through weddingwire.com. I was looking over reviews and was impressed with hers. When I reached out to Jan, she responded quickly and we picked a date to meet. When my mother emailed her, they found out that they know each other from years back! It felt meant to be! Our first meeting was wonderful, my husband and myself were laughing along with Jan! She made us so excited and created a ceremony that was perfect for us!
The rehearsal went very well! It was so exciting to go through the motions and reveal the wine box ceremony that Jan helped us put together! Jan was able to wrangle up the wedding party and rehearsal went wonderfully. So happy that she was there for the walk through!
The day of the wedding went flawlessly, I still hear each day how everyone absolutely loved our ceremony, it was PERFECT for us! I couldn't imagine our big day without Jan there! Jan was absolutely amazing!! She was very responsive and super organized. When I first reached out to Jan to request services she set up a meeting to meet myself and my husband, as she wanted to ensure she would be a good fit for us. We spent an hour just chatting with her, getting to know each other. She spent the time asking us about ourselves, how we met etc., and we had not even solidified her services yet. By the time we got home she had sent us examples of vows, as well as a script for a remembrance ceremony (which we were planning on doing). At this point I knew she would be a good fit for our ceremony. She was always responsive to emails, and was great at kindly reminding me what I needed to be doing (as my bride brain often forgot). The day of the ceremony, she arrived super early to get a feel for the venue. She spent time walking my husband and I through what we needed to be doing, and even did a dry run with the bridal party and family to ensure they knew what they were supposed to be doing. She even brought color coded copies of the vows for my husband and myself, and carried them down the aisle so we didn’t have to worry about it. After the ceremony several people asked where I found Jan because they thought she knew us personally, she did such a phenomenal job with our vows. I would highly recommend Jan to anyone getting married, she was awesome!!

Jan was AMAZING!! When the pastor that I grew up with was unavailable to officiate our wedding, it was then important to us to find someone that would fit us and most of all "get" us. We were able to meet with Jan before we actually hired her, which was wonderful. Jan was so accommodating and genuine! She made our ceremony so unique and special. My husband and I were very pleased with the choice of an officiant our only child and her new husband chose for their wedding. Yes! I gave Jan a perfect 5 stars in every category! This is not your run of the mill review though, allow me to recount how amazing Jan was for my event so you can see how deserved the rating was! So I was planning a surprise vow renewal for my wife, and in putting the plan together mostly last minute I contact Jan on the Wednesday prior to my Saturday night event . Not only was she able to accommodate my last minute request for Saturday night, she was able to go right to the location I had picked out. Even in the last minute planning of the event she took no short cuts in her preparation. She texted and emailed consistently up to the event In order to get the details just right. Not only was she able to perform the out of the ordinary event I had planned exactly how I had pictured it, but you could tell in her words she had put a great deal of thought into saying things that matched exactly my wife and I , and had even friended me on Facebook so that she could secretly gather Intel on my wife to get to know things about her! All of the effort paid off when Jans words hit so close to my wife's heart she broke down into tears! As if all of that had not been enough, she was thirty minutes early and had brought a photographer along that she recommended since I was having trouble finding one that was reputable and fit in my price range!!! Jan was more than I could have ever hoped for, please please take my advice so that your special day can turn out just as memorable!!!!

Jan was absolutely WONDERFUL! We loved her from the moment we met with her and couldn't wait to include her in our day. She was flexible, willing to add rehearsal to the contract only a month before our big day, and helped us think through our ceremony. We reached out to Jan on recommendation of the chapel we had booked for our wedding. She was quick to respond and provide us with questions and feedback that had us thinking about what we wanted from our ceremony. I considered our situation somewhat challenging, given that we were from out of state and were working on planning a wedding sight unseen. Jan was able to provide us with recommendations on other vendors she had worked closely with in the past. She even arranged to pick up our wedding flowers and bring them / set them up at the chapel on our behalf. So thoughtful, ready to jump in and do what needed to be done and left us feeling confident that our wedding was going to be everything we had dreamed of. On our wedding day, Jan was incredibly easy to work with, we were immediately comfortable in her presence and the ceremony went ahead exactly as we discussed. Given that we hadn't even rehearsed (our choice), everything went smoothly and beautifully. Jan took great care to get our marriage certificate to the county auditor's office and then personally mailed our certified marriage certificates to us in the mail the same week. If you're looking for a celebrant who is easy to work with, who is able to embrace the uniqueness of the individuals involved and listens and encourages the wants and needs of the couple, then Jan is the officiant for you. We were impressed with Jan immediately. We spoke with her on the phone then met soon after so we all could get to know each other. She had wonderful suggestions and was also flexible for how we wanted the ceremony conducted and written. The best compliment we can give her is that the other guests attending our wedding thought we had know Jan for a very long time.

Jan Smillie at simplysayido.com is amazing. We were able to really make our ceremony personal and unique to us as a couple because Of Jan. She was fun, friendly and touched our hearts during the ceremony. Jan was always really responsive and easy to get ahold of before the wedding!! She even proof read our vows (since we wrote our own) and wrote our sand ceremony. She really went above and beyond a wedding officiants duties, and all for far less than what other people were charging!!! Definitely recommend her!!!

I have to say that there is not enough space to express how perfectly wonderful Jan was for our wedding! 110% there for us from the moment we met her all the way through to and including the most part, the wedding itself! She is Organized, Thoughtful, Thorough, Sensitive, Responsive, Personalble (not stuffy AT ALL), Respectful of our needs, and flexible! Jan really took the time to get to "Know US", so our service was truly reflective of who we are, not "just another service". The length of the service was perfect...she spoke clearly, and was not rushing through it...we have 3 couples who were that want to use her for their wedding too! We were supposed to have a practice Friday night, but only half of us could make it...so she ran through the practice with them, and the next moring ran through it again and again with everyone to make sure it was perfect, and it went PERFECTLY! Thank you Jan! If we ever decide to renew our vows, you will be called upon by us again! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We were extremely delighted with our wonderful officiant, Jan Smillie. She was always quick to respond via email, text or by phone, and she was very helpful where we needed ideas or guidance. Jan was SO amazing to work with! We could not have picked a better officiant for our wedding. Jan goes above and beyond for everything, we couldn't have asked for anything more. She gave us amazing ideas for our ceremony that we never would have thought of, she made sure to get to know US, not just what we wanted the ceremony to be like. She is very professional about her services and her responsive times are immpecible. We can't say enough great things about Jan. She is really great at what she does and will not dissapoint. Jan was a wonderful officiant. She sincerely loves her job and it shows! She was attentive and caring when it came to writing our ceremony. She gave her advice, but didn't push it on us, she wanted our wedding to be just that, OURS! She was prompt, professional and very personable. I know how overwhelming it can be to find "the right" person for this job, but with her it was a "no brainer." I highly recommend her!

First thing first, Thanks very much Jan, and Scott. My wife and I had a great wedding on 1/4/2013.

My wife and I decided to get married on 1/4/13 since this day has a very good meaning in Chinese. and we both are international students + a new mover to WA, so we can't count on firends' help and we have no clue how wedding process should be and what paper works we should prepare.
I called Jan to see if she could help me plan the wedding, but we just got two week to prepare it. Jan is a great planer. she and Scott drove us to the auditor's office and prepared the initial paper work, and showed us reserved church, and restaurant and met photographer Randy. We were very happy about wedding ceremony . To summarize, what we did was showing up on wedding day, Jan and Scott did the rest. haha,
We are friends now. Thanks to you two, we had a great wedding. :)

Jan is an absolutely amazing woman! She made our wedding ceremony into everything my wife and I had ever wished for! She helped us with everything. She was in touch with us almost every day. She had answers to every question we had. She made us feel at total ease. She did everything we asked without any hesitation. We flew from California to Washington for our wedding and Jan made sure to text us before and after our flights, telling us to have fun, and also sending words of encouragement. She really is everything you could ever ask for in an officiant. It really was "love at first sight" with Jan. She still keeps in touch with us as well, how many people can say that?? If you're reading this now, look no further, I can assure you Jan is the one!

Jan's service was incredible! We contacted her just 2 weeks in advance and that was no problem whatsoever. She provided us with everything we needed right away including a Venue, Caterer, Bartender, Florist and a Photographer. She always kept in contact with us and answered every question we had to ask. Jan is very knowledgeable and professional, make her your first call like we did and you won't regret it!

Jan is the most wonderful thing that I could have imagined in an officiant. She was great from the first call! She was willing to meet me at a place that was convenient for both of us! She took the time to listen to what we wanted in a ceremony and made it come to life. Jan was great at continuously emailing and making sure that everything was perfect. On the day of the wedding, she just whisked in and took over and really made me at ease. She performed the ceremony just as I had imagined it! Jan was wonderful to work with! I would highly recommend her!

She was very flexible when changes arose and kept in constant contact throughout the engagement/planning months.

She also provided a lot of choices when picking out the script for the ceremony and was very respectful of our wishes and concerns. Although she provided the script, we we encouraged to make any changes we felt liike making.

Like I said, I would highly recommend her!

In just the short time we had to get to know Jan before our ceremony I felt like she was part of our family.
Family members and friends alike all commented on how friendly and comfortable they felt with Jan.
During our first meeting with Jan she suggested we incorporate our 3 daughters into the ceremony. She was very reassuring and explained very easily to the children how the ceremony would go and even allowed our eldest to incorporate a Japanese ritual into the wedding. There wasn't a dry eye in the room.
There is no doubt Hsn added to the wonderful memories we will look back on with happiness
