Jack was so great to work with! He captured our December wedding at Mount Ida, and the photos are amazing! Many guests told me that they loved interacting with him - he made everyone feel included, is so easygoing, and took so many photos of us, our families, our guests, and detail shots, which all turned out beautifully! I feel like our whole event was captured perfectly through photos, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the experience of working with Jack as well as the results from both our wedding and our engagement shoot. Can’t recommend enough!! -

We feel so lucky to have had Jack Looney as our photographer for our wedding at Montfair Resort Farm this summer. From the very beginning, Jack was professional, kind, and so easy to work with—he immediately put us at ease and made the entire process stress-free.
On the wedding day, Jack was everywhere without ever being intrusive. He captured every moment—big and small—with such artistry and attention to detail. Our photos are absolutely breathtaking; he not only documented the day but truly told the story of our wedding through his lens. The way he captured the light, the setting, and the emotions of our friends and family still takes our breath away.
Beyond his talent, Jack has such a calm and warm presence. He made us and our families feel comfortable in front of the camera, and he somehow managed to wrangle our energetic crowd with ease and humor. We’ve received countless compliments from guests about how wonderful he was to work with, and of course, everyone is blown away by the photos.
If you are looking for a wedding photographer in Charlottesville (or anywhere, really), we cannot recommend Jack enough. His work is timeless, heartfelt, and extraordinary—we will cherish these photos forever. -

Jack is so wonderful. From our first call, we knew that he would be our guy. He is so laid back yet still professional. It was easy for all of our guests to approach him for photos if they wanted. He kept an eye on the sunset and whisked us away for a few amazing shots. He quickly got the obligatory family shots out of the way, very painlessly. He even suggested another local place to go for our first look that was more private and so beautiful. He really looks out for you and what you want. Also, he works insanely quickly. He is really fast to reply to emails as well. You cannot go wrong with Jack. He did such a great job and helped us to relax. HIGHLY recommend him. Book him already!! -

We could not have had a better experience with Jack as our wedding photographer! He's relaxed, creative, supportive, encouraging, welcoming, and an incredible capturer of moments! He traveled to NYC to meet up with us for our engagement shoot and we had such a fun time with him in Central Park. That got us even more excited to work with him come wedding day. He was a dream to work with from start to finish and helped us feel comfortable and natural on our wedding day. We told him that we didn't want a ton of posed, stiff photos, and he effectively captured the liveliness and spontaneous joy of the day. 10/10 recommend! Thank you, Jack! -

We LOVED working with Jack!
Picking Jack to do our wedding photography was an easy choice because he had previously helped me with another project. He is so easy and fun to work with and so was his second shooter, Justin. They just made us so comfortable the whole time. The pictures they captured are INCREDIBLE and he had them back to me within a few days after the wedding. I really wanted to have some portraits but have the focus be capturing all the little candid moments of the event. I really cannot thank them enough for really capturing all the love from every single person present, I will treasure these photos for the rest of my life. -

Jack and his second photographer were incredible to work with! From our introductory phone call, I knew that choosing Jack was a great decision. He was incredibly professional, communicative, and put us at ease on our wedding day. I do not love being in front of the camera, but he made it feel natural. I was thoroughly impressed with Jack the day of the wedding and was even more impressed when we received our pictures. I absolutely loved them - and he sent us so many to choose from. We also really liked his hourly pricing and flexibility the night of to extend the time based on how the evening was progressing. I would highly recommend hiring Jack Looney as your photographer! -

Jack was outstanding from our first meeting. He worked with us through the pandemic-induced rescheduling process and was flexible with the number of hours we wanted for the day. He and his second, Ashley, made everyone feel so comfortable every step of the way with their kindness and gentle direction, so the wedding photos are natural and don't look forced. Even the photos where I (the bride) inevitably made weird faces look great! Which is a miracle! Everyone we've shared our photos with has been blown away -- and we couldn't be more grateful to Jack and Ashley for capturing so many special moments on our big day. Thank you, thank you. 10/10 -

When we first started our search for wedding vendors, our first goal was to find a photographer that not only matched our needs but also our personalities. We hit the jackpot with Jack (no pun intended). Not only is he the type of guy you would want to grab a beer with, but he went above and beyond to help us with our wedding day. His journalistic style of photography captured the true moments of our wedding while allowing us to enjoy our wedding day with family and friends. Without his help and advice, we would not have been able to set up our own streaming for the wedding. Both my wife and I couldn’t be more pleased by his professionalism, kindness, and generosity. Jack will be the first person we call if we need a photographer!

Hire Jack. My husband and I were blown away by the quality of our photos. Hiring a photographer is taking a big bet, and no matter how much you like their portfolio, you just don't know what's going to happen for sure. I was SOOO blown away by Jack and his partner, Ashley. Not only was their output exceptional, the experience working with them was wonderful. Jack and Ashley made my husband and I as well as all our guests feel so comfortable and welcome. Multiple random guests approached me to tell me how wonderful our photography team was. He stole us away at key moments for photos, but things were so efficient that I barely remember being stolen away - it felt like we were fully present to enjoy and live in the entirety of the day. Jack's prices are very reasonable. THe service and experience he delivers greatly outweighs the price. He's worth every penny and more. A truly wonderful person and professional businessman. -

Working with Jack was a highlight of our wedding! My now-husband and I are not "picture people" and I was super concerned we would look awkward in all of the photos. Jack has the most calming energy - which was good for me since I'm a fairly anxious person. Everyone commented on how courteous and respectful he was. Even though he does a ton of weddings, he always seemed genuinely very excited about our wedding.
He finished editing our photos in about a week! He mailed us physical prints of some of his favorite shots and set up an online gallery for our family to look at. We had such a good time going through our pictures and reliving the best day of our lives. Honestly, there wasn't a single picture of us where my thought was "ugh". All of the pictures that he and his assistant, Ryan, took are so, so stunning.
We are so glad we had the privilege of working with both Jack and Ryan! -

Jack is a dream to work, very kind and easy-going
Jack photographed our May wedding near Shenandoah National Park. He came highly recommended by a friend. He is so easy to work with. He is really flexible and just wanted to make things easy for us. From the beginning, he was super relaxed over the phone and during the lead up to the wedding. On the big day, he was discrete and casual. He was extremely gracious and kind to our guests. He is very laid back, you don't feel like you're being photographed hardly at all, which is great if you aren't used to being the center of attention! He was able to round up family members for group photos, but did so in a very kind and subtle manner.
Our photos are absolutely stunning! He did such a fabulous job, they are breathtaking. He was SO FAST on the turnaround, we were able to relive our wedding within a few weeks. He also sends hard copies of the photos, which is so fun to look through, I realized how rarely I get to actually touch and see photos anymore, it's awesome! Our photos are more than I could have imagined!! Do yourself a favor, hire Jack, you won't regret it!. -

From the first time we talked with him, to our engagement photo session to the actual wedding day, Jack was always kind, professional and extremely responsive. We never felt like it was a chore to take pictures - Jack always made it fun, quick and creative and he could not have been nicer! He also set up a photobooth at the wedding which was a fun bonus. And most importantly we received our photos in less than a month after the wedding date!! Thank you Jack for everything! -

Katie Sent on 01/22/2014Jack was one of our favorite wedding vendors and an absolute joy to work with! We got married at Verulam Farm in November, and Jack was able to capture every special moment of the day... and then some!
I'll admit that I was a little shocked at the prices of wedding photography in Charlottesville as it was more than all of the industry averages I had read online. But after speaking with 3-4 area photographers, we knew Jack would be the best fit for us because of his laid back style and amazing eye for artistic shots. Now I believe that the cost of the photography was worth every penny, thanks to Jack... they're really the only memories we have to take away from the day.
Jack came highly recommended from our wedding venue, caterer, and several friends who got married in Cville. I also love that he threw in a complimentary engagement shoot to get to know us beforehand, and a photo booth for our reception... we brought a few old Halloween costumes as props and it was like extra entertainment for our guests! Those are hidden costs that we avoided because they weren't included in many other photography packages we considered.
We also didn't want a photographer who would be ordering us around and asking lots of questions of us on the big day, and that's one of the reasons we were initially drawn to Jack when interviewing potential photographers. As my husband and I were reviewing the photos (which came just 2 weeks after the wedding), we both noted how surprised we were at all the details that Jack was able to capture while we were busy enjoying the festivities. Neither of us had even noticed him or his assistant, Ashley, as they were busy shooting every angle of our wedding party getting ready, the ceremony, first dance, reception... they were so unobtrusive and professional. Even our guests noted how incredible the pictures turned out and what a good choice we had made in our photographer. I highly recommend Jack to any Charlottesville brides-to-be!

Jack will go above and beyond for you and is extremely willing to help you get the most value out of your budget. Jack is so friendly, accommodating, and professional - he really knows what he's doing. Luckily for us, Jack was also really familiar with our venue (King Family Vineyards) and that definitely helped to make things run very smoothly. At the reception, we hardly saw Jack - he unobtrusively managed to captured SO many special moments without continually asking people to pose for pictures. We could not have been happier with his service! Our pictures are stunning and he really captured our relationship with such ease - especially for two people who don't love having their photo taken! Everyone in our families and wedding party could not stop talking about how nice Jack was and how he made the potentially stressful pre-wedding time so easy and worry-free. Lauren Sent on 11/07/2011Jack Looney was our wedding photographer, and my husband and I found him to be BRILLIANTLY TALENTED and very WARM!
His photos are so beautiful, flattering, and professional, and it is easy to see how so many of his photos have made magazines. His shots are incredible - he captured the emotion of our day and intimate expressions of family and friends, as well as getting gorgeous panoramic shots of our wedding ceremony against the backdrop of the vineyard and Blue Ridge Mountains, and in the ballroom. His playing with color was absolutely amazing - he gave us photos in regular color, black & white, sepia, and then tones in between I don't even know the name for. With Jack you get both quality and quantity - He took thousands of photos - everything we wanted was captured on film plus extra shots beyond our imagination. For example, he shot our rings in so many clever ways - placed on a curly vineyard vine, on a pumpkin, on logs, on the handlebars of our motorcycle cake topper - and more.
We loved his mainly photojournalistic style (capturing the wedding candidly as it unfolds), combined with a few requested posed shots.
While I was getting ready, I was a bit anxious about everything going as planned, and having Jack there with his professionalism and warm manor was really reassuring, calming, and fun. Since our wedding was in the evening, and there wouldn't be much light after the outdoor ceremony, Jack had suggested that my husband and I do a "first site" with each other and the bridal party in advance of the ceremony, so we had planned the schedule as such. Jack drove me up in his car, and his 2nd shooter Ryan took my husband up. He found such a perfect spot in the vineyard for that very special moment where my husband first saw me and me him - and he was able to stand back in a private way while capturing the looks on our faces that we now have for a lifetime. He also took stunning shots of my husband dipping me in his arms. My bridal party commented on how the shots he took of all of us in the vineyard (the bridal party came out after our first site) were the most fun wedding photography they have ever experienced. Jack helped us improvise photos of us with the groomsmen cigars, and got a ton of both funny and serious shots.
Second shooter Ryan was also amazing - very professional and got some really beautiful shots.
Jack truly went above and beyond. He provided a photo booth as well - which our guests loved! Kids and adults alike had so much fun trying on the feather boas, big glasses, wigs, and more that he provided. As a special request, since we couldn't afford a videographer, he managed to capture several important events such as our first dances on video.
I really can't say enough great things about him - we are just so happy he was available on our date! We had interviewed about 12 of the top photographers in the Charlottesville area before picking him, and we are so glad we did. -
