I booked island glow for my October wedding and I cannot say enough good things about them. Michelle the owner was very responsive and quick with replies to any and all questions I had. Laikyn was my hair and makeup artist and I don’t think I’ve ever felt more confident in my own skin. Besides glamming just me, they also glammed my whole entourage which was a total of 9 people. They stayed on track with time, even with going to two different places to do our hair and makeup and everyone looked GORGEOUS. Highly recommend!! -

Island glow bridal glam team made me feel so beautiful on my wedding day! I was nervous about my look leading up to the big day and Michelle consulted with me to help me decide what I wanted and did a beautiful classic Hollywood glam curl and beautiful bridal makeup! She went above and beyond to ensure I loved how I looked that day! They got me, my mom, and our bridesmaids ready for the reception quickly, and are very sweet. I am very happy I found them for my big day. -

Island Glow is a wonderful company for hair, makeup and spray tans! They even offer bridal packages which helped a lot! I booked the package that included airbrush makeup/hair for myself and traditional makeup/hair for 5 people and I had 5 bridesmaids, so it worked out perfectly! We added my mom to get her hair and makeup done, too. We had 2 people to do hair/makeup for 7 people and they were punctual, professional and very nice to work with! We all looked fabulous and I couldn't be happier with how we all looked! -

Amazing and absolutely perfect
I booked Michelle and the team for my wedding on 09/18/2021. I had my bridal spray tan the week of and I couldn’t believe how well the color turned out. Michelle did my makeup the day of and I honestly couldn’t have been any happier with the way it turned out. I was amazed at how well everything stayed on considering how hot it was. When planning everything out I considered just doing everything myself and I am so glad I didn’t. She was even able to do one of my bridesmaids who was having a hard time with her makeup -

I have never felt more beautiful than on my wedding day and I am so thankful for Island Glow! They were so sweet, fast and flexible! Michelle really worked with me and also made sure we had a great timeline for my bridal party. I had ALOT of bridesmaids! I also know some of my bridesmaids had spray tans done a few days before and all had great experiences! I would definitely recommend them to anyone wanting to look and feel their best on their wedding day! -

Michelle and her team are pros and will guide you every step of the way. I got a custom spray tan a couple of days before the wedding with Bailee and she did an amazing job! I knew Michelle had a great reputation, but I was blown away with my bridal hair and makeup as well as my entire bridal party! The team spent extra time after they finished my hair and makeup to provide last minute touch ups. Most importantly, they were on time and prepared for a crew of 11 women! I highly recommend this talented and experienced team! -

Michelle was so kind and gracious! From the moment she first responded to my initial email inquiry I could tell she was so passionate about her work! Since I live in San Francisco and was only in Richmond for one weekend to do a trial before the wedding, she graciously fit me into her busy schedule and helped me (with some caring but honest feedback) plan a hair and makeup look that I absolutely loved!
As a curly haired gal with a slightly darker complexion, I was worried about how to make my locks look elegant, and making sure the makeup palette fit the summery, natural aesthetic I was going for. But Michelle listened to everything I was looking for, helping me create a beautiful look that maintained my natural curl texture and complemented the floral headpiece I'd already purchased. And I felt the makeup look she crated was absolutely classic. She also did a lovely job with my sister/MOH's super fine curly hair. Both of our make up stayed put throughout the day in 90 degree heat!
We absolutely loved working with Michelle and completely recommend working with her to make your wedding beauty dreams come true! -

BEST Make-Up Artist!
Michelle from Island Glow did an OUTSTANDING job not only on my bridal makeup, but my entire bridal party’s as well as my Mom and Mother-in-Law for my July wedding in Washington, D.C.! I knew Michelle would be my forever go-to makeup girl, when she agreed to do my makeup for our sunrise engagement pictures last summer. She arrived at our apartment at 3:30 AM to do my makeup and made sure that I looked amazing for our engagement photos in D.C. She even helped me do my hair! On our wedding day, Michelle arrived early and set-up quickly in our bridal suite, all the while chatting and getting to know everyone who was there. She was incredibly friendly and such a joy to be around! Her positivity and contagious personality made everyone feel at ease and comfortable in her make-up chair. She even let some girls and my Mom bring some of their own make-up to use. Everyone’s makeup lasted ALL DAY and looked flawless in the D.C. summer heat! At the end of the night, my make-up looked just as it had that morning when Michelle did it. I felt like an absolute princess and didn’t want to take my make-up off that night! Michelle is THE BEST wedding make-up artist and she will forever be my go-to makeup and beauty girl! -

I would highly recommend Michelle and the Island Glow team. I first used Island Glow services for engagement photo hair and makeup - I loved it so much I immediately booked for my wedding. As a "covid bride" Michelle was amazing and so flexible. Our original wedding plans were changed and Michelle great about working with our new plans. The makeup for my wedding was incredible and I also loved my up-do. I'm looking forward to using Island Glow again for our big wedding and reception. -

I had Island Glow do my wedding hair and makeup, and they worked so efficiently. They were all really kind and they were also so flexible, which is really helpful when you're dealing with wedding stress left and right.
I am also so grateful at their responsiveness and willingness to make changes in the schedule when we had to change our wedding date. We had a wedding date in January but my husband and I both got COVID just 6 days before the wedding and had to postpone it. Michelle responded so quickly to the change and was able to accommodate the change. On the day of the wedding, I made a mistake on the number of people doing both hair and makeup as opposed to just one of the two services and they were able to accommodate my mistake and get everything done in time. They were so professional about it and their work reflected that professionalism. -

The girls at Island Glow were truly amazing. Alex, Kayla, and Star did hair and makeup for myself, my six bridesmaids, and four guests of honor (moms/step-moms/aunts). They did an excellent job and finished right on time! I was a little nervous because I did my trial with Michelle, who owns the company, and I have heard horror stories about doing a trial with one person and being serviced by another on your wedding day. That was not the case here! These girls worked so hard and were so patient, even with my mom who rarely wears heavy makeup and was nervous about looking too glam. Every single one of us looked stunning! -

After Michelle responded to a facebook inquiry I made in a wedding group - I checked out Island Glow for our Hair/Makeup needs. I loved the pictures on their website, and so I shared their info with my mom (who wanted to book and pay for the hair/makeup as a gift to me.)
Michelle spoke with my mom and then after she chose a package that made sense (Bride+5 including 2nd look, trial, and teeth whitening) Michelle sent her an invoice asking her to pay for everything (including 18% gratuity and what *looked like* a travel fee for 3 stylists) up front. My mom, not wanting to lose the booking - paid the whole bill (approx. $2000)
AFTER all that - I wrote an email to Michelle asking to discuss all the specifics. She was confused about who I was... fine... and seemed frazzled, asking for my wedding date when I'd already included it in the email's subject line. Whatever - we all get busy and don't read. She invited me to book a phone call with her, which I did. She then rescheduled it twice, so I had to juggle around work meetings to actually speak with her.
When we did speak, I told her about my bridesmaids, and how some of them wouldn't need both hair and makeup because they had short cropped hair, or braids. She said I could combine 2 makeups to equal 1 hair/makeup. I also told her that a handful of the wedding party was unsure of their ability to actually make it to the wedding because of COVID restrictions on travel, and also military obligations. I said I didn't know if I would even be able to fit the "Bride+5" need, and that really we probably should have had a consult before she asked my mom to pay. Michelle didn't even have my contract in front of her (in fact... they don't give contracts... just itemized invoices) and was confused about the actual package my mom had booked. I had to correct her multiple times - and she also has a tendency to try to condescendingly speak over people - multiple times saying "honey I've been doing this for 30 years" which had I'm sure the opposite effect on me than what she was going for. rather than re-assure me of her "expertise" it just made me understand her abrasive and cocky personality.
When I tried to schedule my trial to make sure that I liked their style (a trial which was included in our pre-paid package) Michelle informed me that I could only come Mon-Fri during the day and I had to come to Richmond (from Annapolis) I said I was unable to do that because of my work obligations and she said that she couldn't do anything about it. I asked if she could refund the trial and she said "no - it's just a freebie that we put on that package" she recommended that I send them photos of what I want and they'd just make it work. - so flash forward to my wedding day and you can imagine what anxiety I was feeling.
Our wedding ceremony was during the day - at 1pm and the bed and breakfast we rented served breakfast at 9. I asked them to serve an hour earlier, but Michelle wanted to start services at 8am. I asked her to bring three stylists to handle the 6 people we booked, but she kept insisting that she was the one who got to choose the amount of stylists. I told her that I didn't want it to be rushed and stressful in the morning, and that handling 12 services with 2 people in the 3 hours I could give her was too much. ESPECIALLY when she insisted that each service needed 45 minutes and no less. She finally agreed to bring 3 stylists. This conversation happened in June.
In early July I finalized with her the amount of services we'd need (Hair/Makeup for 4, makeup only for 3 - a total of 11 services) and said the timeframe was 9-12.
on the WEEK OF my wedding, she woke me up with a text that laid out a very different timeline and only included 2 stylists. I asked her why things changed and she said "we only need 2" and I told her how uncomfortable that made me feel - and also told her that we absolutely had to start at 9 and end at 12. She then sent me another schedule with the end time being 12:30. I corrected her once more and then just got exhausted and handed the situation to my coordinator.
When my coordinator tried to reach her to talk about it - she wrote back that she was on vacation.
It wasn't until I sent her a very lengthy text stating how much I didn't trust her, how If I didn't have a shoulder injury preventing me doing my own hair/makeup I'd just feel more comfortable doing it myself - that she immediately called me, seemed so surprised at how upset I was, and didn't understand what the issue was.
I spent about 30 minutes on the phone with her in tears because she was stressing me out so much. I mentioned that I didn't trust that she was going to do what she says, that she's shown how she just does what she wants regardless of what's talked about, and how uncomfortable I was with the whole situation.
specifically I said "I don't trust you. I don't know you" and her response was "who's fault is that? you could have come down here and met us and had a trial" (which - like I've said, she made very difficult and I would have had to take a day off of work to drive 5 hours RT to Richmond)
There was a lot more to that stressful conversation, but bottom line is I said I felt more comfortable with 3 people in 3 hours performing 11 (45 minute) services, She maintained that if she brought a 3rd person, that they'd just sit there doing nothing, so again - the conversation ended with me feeling very anxious and unsure - and her doing what she wanted regardless (and many times talking over me and contradicting other conversations we'd had - like telling me that she only needed 30 minutes per service)
about 90% of the anxiety I felt the week of my wedding was due to Michelle. The morning of the wedding, she and 1 other stylist showed up at 8:30am, and the first interaction we had was her laughing and making fun of the typos that were in the driving instructions she'd received from my coordinator. I didn't appreciate that, and I just asked her to find the correct spot and set up while we finished breakfast.
To be fair to them, the hair and makeup looked nice. It wasn't extravagant or difficult by any means. we had a very classic/elegant style to the wedding, and most were soft curls. Only 3 of us actually needed our hair done. While my mother in law asked to be included in both services - she has a cropped (about 3inches of hair) so there wasn't much to do with it. Makeup was simple and natural.
All looked nice. They were able to match my hair to the Pinterest picture i showed them. I was happy with it.
For the "2nd look" they would only stay 2 hours past them concluding the initial service - which didn't leave much room for it. We needed to be done by 12 so that we could get dressed and prepare for the processional. The ceremony was from 1-1:45 and then we had photography/videography before the reception.
Michelle and her stylist just sort of impatiently hovered by the photography/videography and it felt very uncomfortable and rushed so that I could have them check my hair and makeup to make sure nothing had come undone with the veil and such.
Really - I wish we'd never booked them. The whole experience with them was a nightmare. Michelle is rude, but just sweet talks and says all the things she thinks you want to hear and then argues with you (in a sickly sweet way) until she breaks you down and does what she wanted to in the first place. I don't feel like we got what we paid for - but I guess we got hair/makeup for the purpose of looking pretty for the wedding. Nothing to be done for it now - but save yourself the anxiety and the arguments and steer clear of this unprofessional. -

I got married this past weekend and it was nothing short of awful when it came to makeup, hair, and what was SUPPOSED to be a tattoo cover up. Michelle, the owner, was very nice when trying to find a new makeup team after my hired artists were unavailable after having to reschedule our wedding again due to Covid. My wedding party consisted of me, 3 bridesmaids, my mother and one flower girl and paid well WELL over $1700 dollars. She was very unreasonable and unwilling to bend at all. She had put a timeline together that had the entire bridal party ready by 11:30 when the wedding was not until 4:30. The photographer saw the timeline and was wanting/asking for things to be pushed back 30 minutes so she could get photos of me getting ready but Michelle was unwilling to do that. She had two other artists come with her for a 9am start time for such a small wedding party. Then obviously they finished quickly and were packed up so quick and out the door to go to another wedding. Michelle stayed to do my hair and makeup and cover my tattoos which are not colorful or extensive and was expressed from early talks with her that was important. I was charged 75 per tattoo. One saying in somewhat small writing on my inner arm “proverbs 31:25”. During my trial, it was suggested I get extensions to achieve the fullness needed for the updo I wanted. There was no discussion about an additional cost to put them in day of or anything of that nature. THE DAY OF THE WEDDING, the extensions were out all day and nothing was brought up about it until I sat down in the chair and handed them to her. She then states she will not put them in because I did not pay her for them. Luckily one of my bridesmaids is good with hair and makeup and put the extensions in for me as Michelle stood behind her on her phone and also critiquing the placement of the extensions. I had told her I wanted everyone’s tattoos to be covered thinking I paid 75 dollars per person for their coverups because no tattoo was complex with any color whatsoever, only to find out days before that it was 75 a tattoo, resulting in having to just cave and just have mine covered, then to have my maid of honor putting my extensions in while she just stood there was mind blowing to me. Someone I believe I overpaid tremendously for already, would not even as much as move an extension so it would not show. She just worked around it and kept saying she was doing this and that so the extension clip would not show. The photographer got there and there were no pictures being taken by her or anything. ALSO, my MOH (who did some of what I paid so much money for this company to do ) asked her to fix a part of her makeup that was that was not right on her cheek, her statement was “that’s not built into the timeline and I don’t think I have that color” I was ready by 2:30 and she was packed up so quickly and left without even trying to make sure everyone was happy with their look or offer to assist with any changes or touch ups that were needed or anything. It was left up to my MOH to help all of the bridal party fix their hair from so many hours going by due to being ready so early. ALL of my “getting ready” photos were taken with my MOH acting as the MUA which is sad because when so much money is paid for makeup. This cost being more than flowers for the ceremony and reception, my dress, DJ, AND photographer. I was not prepared for such unprofessionalism and feel I was robbed of money and everything had a hidden cost behind it. The tattoos were not covered up and actually made those spots just look dirty. I ended up wiping up the “cover up” right after the ceremony because it was transferring onto my husbands and guests clothes when I would hug them which just added salt to injury because I paid $225 dollars for them to be covered up only to wipe it off within an hour or of the actual wedding starting and now the photographer who feels bad over situation is photoshopping all the photos so they aren’t showing like I was wanting. My dress is also covered in makeup and was unable to get it off so the dress was dirty looking during the reception. I would never recommend this company for a day that’s so special -
