Perfect venue for our wedding!
We fell in love with this place almost at once! It offered flexibility of options for where to hold our ceremony, take photos, and hold the reception. Staff was amazing and so communicative and made the process incredibly smooth! I would absolutely have our wedding here again!! -

Perfect Venue
The Howard County Conservancy was the perfect venue for our November 2025 wedding reception. The staff was amazing and responded quickly to all of our questions leading up to our event. We got married at our church while our vendors set up for the reception, then had our cocktail hour on the deck and dinner/ dancing in the main ballroom area. Because the space is so beautiful on its own we were able to save a lot of time and money by keeping all of the decorations simple and minimal. We highly recommend this venue.

Thank you for the lovely review! So happy to hear everything came together smoothly. The flow of your reception - from cocktail hour on the deck to dinner and dancing in the ballroom - was perfect, and your photos captured the day beautifully. We are glad the natural setting made it easy to keep things simple and stress-free. Wishing you both all the joy in the world as you begin married life, and thank you again for letting us be part of such a special day! -

Great Venue, Great Staff
My wife and I are so happy to have chosen Howard County Conservancy for our wedding venue. The staff were great to work with, and these venue is beautiful with great outdoor and indoor space. We also thought it was very affordable given many other venues were crazy expensive. Loved our experience here and will always cherish coming back.Howard County Conservancy's reply:

non-traditional wedding
I am so glad we booked this venue. We had a non-traditional wedding party with no ceremony and the space was perfect. Our event was in the beginning of May and the gardens were stunning - the highlight of the night. We also loved the massive deck area as the weather was gorgeous on the day of our event. If we had had the ceremony at this space, there were multiple beautiful areas that would have worked perfectly. The indoor space was a good size and was able to be dressed up nicely. The staff was easy to communicate with and was very responsive with all of our questions. Highly recommend for a great space with beautiful gardens!Howard County Conservancy's reply:
Thank you for the lovely review! We are happy to hear the venue suited your celebration and that the gardens, deck, and event room all contributed to a great experience. -

Beautiful Wedding Ceremony & Reception Location! 1000/10 recommend!!
My husband and I recently got married here at the Howard County Conservancy in October of 2024 and it was so wonderfully amazing!! We held our ceremony in front of the Montjoy Barn which was the perfect location for us since it fit our vibe nicely! We also had Blossom & Basket Boutique make our beautiful flower arrangements that we were able to upholster on the sides of the barn doors and hang on the aisle chairs! Our reception was held in the Gudelsky Center which has a partially covered deck where we held our cocktail hour! One note- you are not allowed to have shots served on the property, only seltzers, beer, wine, etc. just so you know it advance. We ended up purchasing our own alcohol and hiring bartenders to serve on the grounds. We were able to fit 8-10 chairs per table (8 comfortably) and we brought our own sweetheart table, since the Conservancy does not have one for you to use. We have about 150-160 guests at our wedding and I felt that the Gudelsky Center was perfect for that amount of guests! Our dance floor was the perfect size as well! Additionally, the grounds were absolutely beautiful for us to take our family and couples portraits on, especially at sunset!!
Kat (our Events and Marketing Manager) was so lovely and kind. She was super flexible when it came to scheduling meetings, and made sure that all our questions were answered in a timely fashion. During our tour of the property, she showed us a book with many wedding photos from the different seasons which I found so helpful, since it gave us useful ideas for our wedding day. Additionally, the Conservancy has a handout on their website with vendors that they have used for weddings, which we used for our big day! We had mission bbq cater our wedding and it was the best decision ever! Overall, everything about our experience with the Conservancy was amazing and it made our wedding day the best day of our lives!! Thank you again for helping us make our day possible!!

Perfect wedding venue!
We had the MOST amazing wedding at the Howard County Conservancy. From the initial tour, the walk throughs, the rehearsal, and wedding day, it was a seamless process and everyone at the HCC was great to work with. The venue itself is absolutely perfect - nature surrounding the venue for perfect photos, a covered patio with beautiful overlooks, and a all wood indoor reception hall. We had our ceremony on the partially covered deck, our cocktail hour in the garden, and our reception in the main hall. We had about 110 guests and it was a perfect fit. Everyone commented on how magnificent the grounds were and how beautiful of venue it was. We could not recommend this place enough!!!Howard County Conservancy's reply:
Hi Caitlyn! Thank you for sharing your experience. It was truly a pleasure working with you, and we're thrilled to hear that the venue's natural beauty made for the perfect setting for your wedding. It means the world to us that your guests enjoyed the space as much as you did. Your kind words and recommendation is much appreciated. Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness and unforgettable memories! -

It’s a beautiful setting.
The setting is beautiful and our coordinator for the venue was very helpful. They have some restrictions about what the caterer can use for service (like no single use plastics) so make sure the caterer has worked there or is willing to follow the rules). The restrictions are minor and understandable.Howard County Conservancy's reply:

Lovely, peaceful venue
HCC is not a typical wedding venue, it's primarily a nature center, and we loved it! We wanted nature to be part of our wedding, but most of the venues in the area were barns or wineries, neither of which resonated with us. HCC was great because it's beautiful and simple. We also loved not having to rent tables or chairs. Grace was very responsive to our questions, but she did end up leaving a few months before our wedding. If you're looking for a venue that is pretty much a blank slate, HCC is your place. I will note that there are a lot of rules, which is understandable because it's a nature center. However, we worked with our planner/coordinator who has done tons of weddings there (Sleeping Bee Designs, Sarah Rosier) and she made it a breeze! We love that we can go back and enjoy a nice day at HCC. Photo credit: AnnaLiz Photography Florals: La Fleur Enchantée, Inc.Howard County Conservancy's reply:

Ultimate modern nature setting AND it's DIY (in the best way!)!
To be honest, when I walked into this venue I knew it was the perfect fit for us. We wanted something that involved nature but had a reception venue on site that wasn't old and outdated. HCC was perfect.
The other thing we loved the most about this venue was the ultimate flexibility. We could bring in and use whatever vendors we wanted to: we were in no way limited to their list, which allowed us to work within OUR budget, create OUR menu, and use OUR drinks.
We had a whiskey and cigar bar, a coffee truck with donuts, and a champagne wall. We wouldn't have been able to do that at any other venue. This also being partially a Russian wedding, we wanted the ability to have wine and vodka on the table, so guests wouldn't have to gets up and go to the bar constantly to make toasts. The venue worked with us on this.
And we were able to hire Ranger the owl to make a special appearance at our cocktail hour! It made for some fun for our guests :)-

Best venue, full of nature
Loved everything about this space!! It was unique, beautiful, spacious and so much nature.
I liked that there was an outdoor and indoor space the guests were able to go.
Grace was our point of contact for the venue, and from the start she was so nice, helpful and very responsive.
We love that it's also a place we can revisit and build future memories.

Gorgeous venue, just right for us
When we went to go visit HCC, even though it was a freezing cold day in January, we knew this was the place we wanted to get married. We are outdoorsy, nature-loving people, and the grounds and property are very special and lovely. If you want a beautiful setting with a flowering garden, meadows, forest, and indoor/outdoor options, HCC is your place!
Grace was extremely communicative throughout the process and helped with my many questions. She was easy to work with and so helpful! We had rain on the day of the wedding and had to move the ceremony indoors to the main hall, but the room was spacious enough that we could have the chairs set up in the middle and the tables set up on the side. If the weather is in your favor, there are so many gorgeous areas outside to have the ceremony. Also, the deck overlooking the garden is such a nice feature so folks can be inside and outside.
We can't imagine having our wedding anywhere else. Now, we get to go back, walk the grounds, and remember our wedding day! -

Could not have picked a better venue!!
Could not have picked a better venue, not only because of the beautiful property but also because the extremely friendly staff!! My husband and I fell in love with this venue right away, it suited our needs in many aspects. It had that beautiful modern simplicity we were looking for; I liked having the indoor and outdoor options, and it didn’t need much decoration for it to be beautiful. My guests were allowed to roam around most of the property and enjoy the scenery. My guests have not stopped letting me know how they loved the venue.
Since COVID had pushed our wedding back (suppose to be a 2020 wedding, but became a 2022 wedding), I worked with different people, and each person I interacted with had been so nice. I originally worked with Denise, then Allison, Taryn, and ultimately Grace. Each person was very kind and responsive, and introduced themselves to me and provided me with whatever updates they had with the venue. Grace had been so kind to us, and made sure to re-clarify everything I could not remember (since it had been 2 years I’ve signed the contract) and was very quick to respond to emails. When I finally met her face to face, she was very friendly and knew so much about the property and was very informative which made me feel at ease. Top notch communication and helpfulness throughout the entire process and all the staff we’ve interacted with. I’ve recommended this place to everyone, and will continue to. -

Perfect Winter Venue
We recently celebrated our daughter's wedding at the Howard County Conservancy. We fell in love with the natural beauty of the venue and were happy to find that planning our event for February came with some perks in flexibility and affordability. The Gudelsky Room was a comfortable size for our 145 guests and it didn't take much to make it look really special. We really loved the many large windows, the ambiance of the permanent string lights on the deck, and all of the indoor natural wood...floors, beams, and even the natural wood chairs. And even though it was really cold, we were able to get some really pretty outdoor photos. Grace is very much to thank for our positive experience. She was professional, responsive, encouraging, and so very calm and kind. We were so happy to have found this wonderful place for our special event.Howard County Conservancy's reply:

Beautiful views and terrific responsiveness/flexibility
We recently got married at the Howard County Conservancy and it was the perfect venue for us. Being able to book the Guldelsky Center at the off-season rate helped us to stay within our budget, and even in the winter months, the grounds are beautiful and provided a tranquil and scenic backdrop for the evening. The partially covered deck was the perfect location for cocktail hour - spacious enough for our 80+ guests and a fully stocked bar with plenty of room to spare, plus an incredible view of the sunset. In terms of aesthetics, the space is also easy to work with since it can be dressed up or kept simple/clean, depending on what your vision is. The beams are gorgeous and with a little uplighting and basic decor, you can make a lot of impact with not too much effort. As others have mentioned, the venue is a dark sky facility so guests should take care navigating the parking lot at night, but there are several lamp posts on the paved section of the lot so it's not pitch black.
Grace (the Marketing and Events Coordinator) was extremely responsive and went above and beyond to answer any questions we had. The venue was also flexible and willing to work with us when certain things didn't go according to plan. On top of it all, we're glad that what we paid for the venue will go towards the Conservancy and its great work. Everything about our experience was positive and we are so thankful to the Conservancy for hosting our big day!

Absolutely beautiful, natural venue.
Howard County Conservancy is a rustic wedding dream! The grounds and buildings are gorgeous. HCC has various trees, shrubbery, and flowers throughout the year, along with stone and brick walk ways. Take advantage of this hidden gem. We couldn’t have found a more beautiful venue for such an amazing price.-

We used the conservancy for our wedding venue. Got married in the barn & had our reception inside the hall. We were able to come the day before for a rehearsal and set up the barn for the ceremony ahead of time. They were extremely flexible with us, worked well with the catering company & helped out when we had some weather issues. Even though it poured down rain we were still able to get married in the barn.
We rented the barn for the ceremony ($250) & rented the farm house for a bridal suite ($250) -

Beautiful private setting. The staff were very easy to work with. There are many places for beautiful photos. The room comfortably sat 130 guests with a dance floor. There are tall windows and two decks as well as a loft. The bathrooms were large and clean. You use your own caterer and bring you own alcohol which is a big cost saver. -

The wedding was on a Monday morning at a nearby church followed by brunch at the Conservancy. Price was right and we included rental of the Nature Center downstairs which children and adults loved. It was a wonderful location and staff was very accommodating. It was a rare warmer winter day so the photo scavenger hunt went off super. Loved the location! -

Choosing the Howard County Conservancy as a venue is one of the best decisions that my wife and I could have made in lieu of our wedding. We wanted to marry somewhere outdoorsy and rustic - options in this part of the state seemed pretty limited, in that respect. Everywhere we tried to option that was 'outdoorsy' was either obscenely overpriced or attached to a luxury bed and breakfast.
The conservancy was the exact mix of rustic and convenient that we needed. We held our ceremony in their barnhouse, and the light hitting the barn in late September is absolute perfection in mid-afternoon. We were illuminated by rays of light, while the attendees were able to bask in the shade (Wear sunscreen!) This made for some stellar photographs.
They were easy to work with, reasonably priced, professional, and everything about our wedding somehow went off without a hitch, venue included.

This beautiful venue was perfect for our outdoor ceremony/indoor reception. The only possible issue is that there is no "dress up" room, but it's worth it to get dressed before you get there. The grounds are private and stunningly beautiful, and the staff is very helpful. -

I had my ceremony at Howard County Conservancy's in front of the Montjoy Barn on August 17, 2013. It was a beautiful outdoor ceremony with the barn & nature being our backdrop. I got so many compliments on the venue!
We then had our reception in the Guldesky Room. We had 110 people for our wedding, but I believe it can hold up to 130 for buffet style dinner. Looking out the surrounding windows at the beautiful landscaping and nature, made it easy to keep the decorating to a minimal. They also allowed us to use our own caterer & bartenders, which was a great way to save money!! I highly recommend them!!
Only deal is that have some more strict rules than most places-but still worth it. And they are sure to tell you everything up front so that there are no surprises! -

Denise was extremely helpful with scheduling our ceremony and reception. The honors garden was absolutely beautiful, but we would have been equally happy with the wheat barn if the weather had not cooperated. The value is beyond compare, with other venues costing more than twice as much. -

We chose the conservancy based off the value, as well as the gardens. Unfortunately Mother Nature was not cooperative with the blooms this year so we held the wedding inside. Everything turned out great! The space was more than we needed and the staff that helped was incredible. -

Beautiful venue at the right price. Tables and chairs included in the cost. I love that the money for the rental doesn't go to big business wedding places. They are a local non-profit organization that does environmental education.
The barn was the perfect backdrop to our rustic wedding and the guildeski center was beautiful for the reception with local artists work on the walls. -

We had our wedding reception at the conservancy on a beautiful summer day, and the Gudelsky center and honors garden were just gorgeous. This is a very special place, and it feels like you're in a rural area without being too far from the city. We found everyone very easy to work with, accommodating and laid back, especially compared to the wedding factories in and around Baltimore! The rates were very reasonable. We used My Thyme Inc. for catering, chosen from the Conservancy's catering list, and they were wonderful.
The only recommendation we have is that having outdoor lighting between the ballroom and the parking lot would really help evening guests find their cars. We were notified that it would be dark, but didn't put the time into getting outside lights. -

The Howard County Conservancy was an amazing venue for our June Wedding. The flowers were in full bloom and the setting provided a relaxed natural setting for our wedding. After searching the central MD area for an old barn to hold the ceremony in we found exactly what we were looking for in the Montjoy Barn on the grounds. Many of our guests found the barn to be a unique choice for the wedding ceremony. The old beams and old farm tools gave the barn character which meant we needed very little decoration. The reception was held in the air-conditioned Education Center which offers a large room that has plenty of space for dinner and dancing. The room has lots of large windows which allow the natural light to come in.
The staff at the Howard County Conservancy were amazing and made the planning very easy. They were available to answer questions and concerns as they came up as the wedding drew closer. On the day of the wedding they were available to answer questions and ensure that the facility was maintained throughout the event.
We are still receiving compliments from our guests on the uniqueness of our venue. An added bonus to using the Howard County Conservancy is that it is open to the public and our friends and family can walk the grounds when they want to remember our beautiful day. -

Beautiful place. It’s a nature center located in a nice area. We couldn’t believe this gem was hidden where it was. You have to visit. Great place
We had our fall wedding outdoors with the reception indoors. It’s a beautiful, quiet place to have a wedding. It’s a nature center surrounded by flowers trees and nature. The people there were very nice to work there. They are flexible with dates and payment. Kat was very accommodating and always got in touch with me right when I had questions.Howard County Conservancy's reply:
Happy we were able to host your special day! We're so glad you enjoyed your fall wedding and the peaceful natural setting. We appreciate you choosing the Conservancy and wish you all the best! -

We had our wedding at the Howard County Conservancy in August 2014 and loved it. Ceremony in the Montjoy Barn was beautiful and the Gudelsky Center was perfect and easy for the reception. The only downside is having to be wrapped up on the earlier side (11 PM). Would still highly recommend it if you're looking for an affordable outdoor venue with the additional option of an inside space. -

Awesome and beautiful wedding venue! We had our ceremony in the barn, cocktail hr in the Honors Garden and reception in the indoor center. Everything flowed perfectly for the day. We did have to rent a generator for music in the barn, and there are some other unique minor hurdles, but the venue is worth it and a great value. Our guests loved the food and dancing, but we got the most complements on the venue itself. Perfect! -

Fantastic venue. Gorgeous setting, excellent for photos and great facilities. Incredible value that includes rentals. Wonderful views and a big, big sky. Goats to boot!
We did want to bring in a foosball table for the reception, but were denied, hence the flexibility rating. Everything else was easy! Guests couldn't say enough good things about the setting.
It is a dark sky facility, which makes it a bit difficult for guests to get to their cars post-ceremony, but we solved that with lantern favors. Another couple I know used solar lights. -

We held our May wedding ceremony and reception at the Conservancy. Overall we were really pleased with the way things turned out! Denise was a pleasure to work with and went out of her way to make our day go as smoothly as possible. One of the main reasons that we chose Howard County Conservancy was because our rental fees were going to a non-profit organization, and not a wedding factory. The Conservancy is a unique place that isn't very well-known, another reason why we loved it.
The grounds are beautiful, and our guests LOVED the venue. We held our ceremony under a big tree in Theresa's garden, our cocktail hour around the fountain in the Honor's Garden, and our reception in the Gudelsky Center. We also had the option of holding the ceremony in the Montjoy barn in case of rain, which was a huge relief.
The only thing that would have made our day a little easier was having the option to store some of our supplies in the Gudelsky Center when the ceremony and reception were over. The rules are pretty firm, and we had to pack everything up ourselves at the end of the night and get it into people's cars to take back home. It would have been a lot easier if we had the option of coming back to get our stuff on Sunday or Monday.

We had our wedding at the Howard County Conservancy last weekend and couldn't have been more thrilled with how it went! Despite a rainy day, all of our guests had a blast and complimented us on how beautiful the Gudelsky Center and the surrounding deck and grounds were. We originally planned on having the ceremony outside, but given the rain opted to have it in the historic barn instead. We fit over 140 people inside comfortably with a PA system, arch, etc. The downside is that there's no electricity, so rent or bring a generator if you want to have your ceremony inside the barn. Denise from HCC was super friendly and helped us to arrange a perfect day. The venue doesn't really provide any assistance as far as setup or clean-up, and is pretty strict about time, the condition the venue should be left in, etc. which necessitates hiring some other vendors who will take care of that stuff. All of that was understandable. It's a great deal for the money; most venues in the area cost a lot more. It's nice to support a non-profit that has a lot of other great initiatives. Highly recommended!-

This was a great venue! We wanted something outdoors with an option for indoors in case of rain. and for our reception This was perfect! The grounds are beautiful and offer lots of choices for where the ceremony could be. We chose Theresa’s garden, as we had around 130 guests and that was the best space for that number. (We also held our cocktail hour there and it was lovely). Denise, the contact for wedding rentals there, was great and answered all of my questions quickly and efficiently. The rate was reasonable, especially compared to spaces in the city. We had the reception in the Gudelsky Hall on the grounds and it also worked very well!
We did end up renting a few extra tables and all of our chairs since we didn’t like the plastic ones on site, which added to the total expense -- something to consider when figuring out the total cost for your budget.

Such a beautiful place for a wedding
The conservancy is such a great place for a wedding. The venue is beautiful without being overdone like so many venues. The building is a perfect place for a reception or rain plan. Owl visit is highly recommendedHoward County Conservancy's reply:

The biggest problem with the Conservancy is that it's so beautiful you will wish your guests could stay there longer. We used Teresa's Garden for our wedding ceremony and cocktail hour and I kept wishing all of our guests could have come early/stayed late and gone on a hike around the grounds. It is so pretty and well taken care of. That garden and the Gudelsky Center (inside reception area) were the PERFECT size for our wedding of about 65 guests.
The venue has some policies that are a bit restrictive as it is first and foremost an educational center and not a wedding venue. However, if you can get over those things, it is a phenomenal location. Everyone that I talked to loved it and couldn't believe how pretty it all was - and the best part was that most people had not even heard of it before our day so what a nice surprise. You won't get an on-site coordinator as with many other wedding venues and I cannot recommend hiring someone for this role enough. We used Jenny from jpb Designs and she did an amazing job. They have some tables but you will probably want to rent your own chairs and all china/glassware/linens. The biggest hurdle is that you can't have anything delivered or left outside of the hours you have rented the place so you may end up paying a bit extra for the delivery or pick-up but it's worth it!!!
Beautiful venue! And you can feel good that your money is going to this very worthwhile non-profit. -

This venue is absolutely beautiful! The rolling hills, the perfectly kept gardens, the old wooden barn and the reception space with bamboo floors and wood trusses all create a beautiful setting for a wedding. Our day was gorgeous weather which just made for a spectacular evening. We had the ceremony in front of the old barn, cocktails in the Honor's Garden and the reception in the Gudelsky Center. The venue can get pricey because each space is an additional separate charge, so for us using multiple outdoor locations, the cost added up quick. Do keep in mind, however, that this is a nonprofit organization and the money you spend on your wedding at this location goes to a good cause. There are also some limitations with using the spaces, primarily because weddings are not their first and foremost priority. Be sure to ask a lot of questions and describe your true vision for your event up front to ensure that all your ideas can be met. All in all this was the perfect setting for our wedding and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. -

Highly Recommend for a DIY Wedding
My husband and I got married in the fall 2024. This venue allowed us the customization that we wanted for our wedding along with the space and responsiveness you'd expect from a venue. HCC was great in working with our vendors to make sure our day went smoothly. While they do have some additional rules with the venue being a conservancy, they are very clear and the team is extremely helpful in clarifying any questions you may have! We did add a few hours to make our day exactly what we wanted too -

We had our wedding reception here and I highly recommend it. It is a hidden gem. The Honor’s garden is amazing and the Gudelksy center has a lot of space especially if you reserve the bottom level. Our guests kept telling us how beautiful it is.
The only downside is this venue has a lot of rules that can be difficult especially for vendors so please read the contract carefully. For instance, nothing can touch the walls and although the venue allows up to 150 guests, it only provides 10 tables that seat 100 people.Howard County Conservancy's reply:
Thank you for your review and we heard the feedback. We have purchased 150 new chairs and tables to accomodate 150 people, and many folks have found our deck overlooking the gardens a terrific addition.
Also, congratulations on your upcoming one year anniversary!

My honest review
This venue is beautiful and our pictures here were breathtaking. The venue is on the low end in terms of price and here is why - you get the space for 8 hours but you get no additional help from the staff. They do not set up, clean up, move anything, etc. if you want more than 8 hours, you have to pay per hour. To add on the farmhouse, etc you have to pay extra. They were great about allowing us to set up appointments to meet our vendors there and very helpful with any questions we had. At the end of the night, two employees followed us around watching us like hawks to make sure we cleaned up. You also cannot use the dumpsters there so your caterer has to take all trash with them. It just felt rushed and stressful to get it all done after our wedding was over. With that being said, you could buy extra hours to allow for more clean up time. I just feel like since they only have one event per day, they could give you the whole day. If you were to hire a coordinator, I think things would go smoother.-

Howard County Conservancy's reply:
Hi Shannon!
Your photos are gorgeous and we are so glad to hear you enjoyed our space and grounds!
We also appreciate your feedback. All venues have a defined rental period and eight hours is fairly standard, if not above the norm. We recognize that some folks might want extra time, which is why we offer the option to purchase additional hours. We also recognize that everyone wants different things for their wedding and everyone has a different budget. This is why we price our spaces (such as the historic barn and farmhouse bridal suite) individually, to allow folks the flexibility of renting what they want, without having to pay for everything else. This also allows us to keep our prices lower than they would otherwise be.
Thank you for saying that we were helpful and accommodating in allowing you to meet with all of your vendors in our space and answering all of your questions. We strive to take excellent care of all of our rental clients and appreciate you highlighting this.
Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your special day. Your wedding was absolutely beautiful and we wish you all the best.

Howard County Conservancy is an absolutely beautiful venue. It's not traditionally a wedding venue, just an event venue, but that's one of the reasons we really liked it. They are a non profit organization that offers nature courses and provides summer day camps for kids along with much more, and they are located on acres of picturesque old farm land. There are gardens and an old barn that we got married in front of. And the reception room inside is very open with bamboo floors and accents, and they have rotating local art on the walls which we loved. This venue has a few rules, but they are mainly just to make sure their grounds are maintained. We like them because we were able to bring all the rest of our chosen vendors in from outside and so had lots of freedom and options for planning our wedding. The director was quick to respond to our questions and requests by email. -

The Howard County Conservancy was an absolutely beautiful place to get married. Both Sheila and Denise were delightful to work with and the natural beauty of the Gudelsky Center and the Honors Garden made for a gorgeous outdoor wedding. They do have strict time restrictions - a 7 hour rental is part of the package and additional time can be added for a fee, but no deliveries may be made outside of the rental time. We incurred some extra delivery charges from vendors because of this. All in all, if you are looking for a naturally beautiful, rustic venue with a reasonable rental fee in Howard County, I would strongly recommend the Conservancy. -

Great Venue! but choose your event date carefully
This venue is beautiful and affordable, making it an excellent overall choice, and the staff is very helpful. However, it’s important to choose your event date carefully. We encountered some challenges due to limited setup time because our wedding took place during the summer when summer camps operate until 4 PM. The Bridal Cottage was unavailable during this period, but we were offered the main office as an alternative space to change or relax. Unfortunately, the office was cluttered with staff belongings, and staff members frequently came in and out, which made the experience less than ideal. Overall, while the venue has many great qualities, including its beauty and affordability, it's important for future clients to carefully consider their event timing. The limited setup time and alternate arrangements can impact the overall experience.Howard County Conservancy's reply:
Thank you so much for your kind words and for choosing Howard County Conservancy for your daughter's special day! We are glad you enjoyed the beauty of our venue and found it to be both welcoming and affordable. We are also grateful for your feedback regarding summer timing and bridal suite usage. Transparency is very important to us and we strive to clearly communicate details about rental timing and seasonal considerations—including bridal suite availability and time restrictions—from the very start. This information is available on our website and in our rental materials, and we are always happy to answer any questions to help couples plan accordingly. We strive to ensure everyone has a positive experience and know that our scheduling freedom is limited during summer camp season. The office room is an alternative gathering space provided for bridal or groomsmen parties to use but it's primary function is not the same as a bridal suite. For your event, we also offered use of the downstairs air conditioned nature classroom for guests to wait in before the ceremony given the high temperatures on wedding day. Hopefully that allowed for added guest satisfaction and positivity. Wishing your family all the best and much love to your daughter in her next chapter! -

Pros: The venue is beautiful. The combination of the barn, garden, and open reception space overlooking the beautiful green grounds will allow for some amazing pictures. The price is very reasonable – under $3k for all three spaces.
Cons: The Pros, you’ll see for yourself very quickly. The Cons you won’t, so I want to make sure to explain them here so you fully understand what this decision will mean for you. In short, the venue is completely inflexible. About anything. In fact, the people there are so inflexible that you can’t help but wonder if they’re inflexible just for the sake of it, or perhaps because they like to envision the bride and groom pulling out all of their hair. Denise, the events coordinator that you will interface with, seems pleasant enough at first and I’m sure that in her normal life she is a lovely woman. But, you will find that any appeals to logic, empathy, or even basic humanity fall on deaf ears with her and the rest of her cronies. Any requests to change the contract, even for common sense courtesies, will be denied. One example was that we wanted to add in a clause that allowed for us to non-destructively attach things to beams in the barn. Agreed to verbally, but when we asked to put it in the contract? Denied. Adding a very standard Force Majuere clause? Denied. For any requested changes, you’ll get the response: “our contract was written by an attorney and approved by our board of trustees” and that the process to change the contract is too cumbersome. To us, it felt like more of an indication that the people there couldn’t be bothered by it.
If we didn’t have a wedding planner to help us navigate all of their arbitrary rules, I don’t know what we would have done. Certainly, I think that coordination of all of the vendors to set up and especially to tear down, such that you comply with the venue’s restrictions, without a wedding planner would add considerable stress to your day.

If you’re going to go with this place, just make sure you truly understand the level of frustration you and your vendors will experience. A wedding planner is a must. And so is a punching bag.

Beautiful venue BUT
I want to start out by saying this venue is absolutely gorgeous, and the staff are very friendly to work with. Our wedding day was beautiful however there were so many restrictions and rules that must be followed. We were under a VERY strict timeline, as the rental period is x amount of hours and not one minute more. (Unless you want to pay extra) They have staff literally waiting by the door ready to lock/unlock right when the time starts. The bridal suite was beautiful however not practical in the slightest. There were maybe 2 or 3 outlets which made it difficult for my hair and make up team to get everyone done. We were rushed from start to finish and although I had a blast, I do have some regrets. Because of these restrictions they were difficult to work with and if I had not had a wedding planner and team of vendors, my day would have been a disaster. While although this venue is incredibly beautiful, I do not think it is worth the hassle and the price when there are so many other great venues out there that do not have the same restrictions.Howard County Conservancy's reply:
Hi Ally,
We welcome your feedback and know that 2020 was a very stressful time to plan an event. Thank you for commenting on our beautiful location. In response to your feedback, your contracted rental period was eight hours. We have worked very hard with our clients to be extra accommodating during the pandemic. In your case, we allowed use of additional space for your ceremony at no charge (this space normally has a rental fee of $300) and we allowed setup and pick up of rental equipment outside of the contracted period. As you are aware, all venues have a defined rental period and eight hours is fairly standard, if not above the norm. We are sorry if you felt this was not enough time for your event, and you did not wish to extend your contract for additional time. Regarding the bridal suite, its a lovely parlor in a historic farmhouse but may not work for all groups depending on your needs for the space.
We wish you the best and congratulations on your marriage -- -

Don't get me wrong...the venue is beautiful and I loved having my wedding there. But the planning was not at all enjoyable. Their rules are extremely rigid and they do not aim to please the bride AT ALL. There are several outdoor areas, and you have to pay to use EACH ONE. And you have to pay a month in advance, so you could pay the fee to use the outdoor venue and then not even be able to use it! There is no reason for this because they don't rent the facility out to more than one person, so it's not like they're missing out on additional revenue by you using the indoor and outdoor facilities. They provide a limited number of tables and chairs and do not let you take them outside, so you have to rent tables and chairs if you need any outside. We went a few times to the venue prior to my wedding and they had not mowed the grass in the garden where I planned to have my ceremony. We asked them to please mow it and they said that volunteers mow the grass, so they have no control over when it gets mowed. It was not mowed for my wedding. The regular rental is only for seven hours (2 hr set up, 4 hr event, 1 hr clean up). If you want more time, you can pay for an extra hour. But, this basically means that you can't get ready there (I got ready at home) and don't have much time to set up ahead of time.
I love the venue, but there are probably other venues out there that are beautiful that are more flexible and more willing to cater to your needs. It ends up getting very expensive having to bring all of those rentals in on top of the fee to rent the venue and the outdoor rental fees. -
