Wow....I can't begin to write what an amazing wedding I had at The House of Refuge. Firstly, I will brag about Ericah. What an amazing, caring, positive, professional, responsive and just awesome person she is. Secondly, many people that attended the wedding asked, "Why did you select The House of Refuge?" Now that was the easy question of the night. 1~Natural setting 2~no high rises 3~not a busy beach that means that bystanders were not going to be in your pics 4~(One very important reason) for what The House of Refuge represented; a safe haven, shelter, protection, simplicity, light in the night, and sunny days after the storm. 5~ Where else can you have the bay on one side and the ocean on the other with little to no traffic? 6~The most important reason, when we were selecting a venue, we wanted our venue fee to go to a cause. The Hiltons, Hyatts, and Marriotts are already rich. So we are proud to say that our fee went to the Historical Society of Martin County to help preserve History. When selecting a venue think about who you are supporting and how the venue represents you.

We had our wedding ceremony here in October 2010. The location is absolutely beautiful. Everyone we dealt with was friendly and accommodating. The location is on the beach, but there is a brick paver area so your guests and your dress don't get filled with sand. There are gorgeous rocky outcroppings that make for the most beautiful pictures! They also opened the location for us to rehearse the night before the wedding. Thanks to Lisa and Jim for making this an amazing experience!

My wedding was absolutely stunning! The guests are still talking about how storybook it was! We had the ceremony on the beach on the southside of the museum. It was breathtaking. The reception space was beautiful, facing the ocean! Liz, the coordinator, was the most wonderful and accommodating woman, and very calming, might I add! All in all, it truly was the perfect day. You MUST get married here!

The House of Refuge is an amazing place to get married. Everything stays with the Historical Society of Martin County (if you're into local's only vibe, like we are). They were very helpful in explaining the process of having a wedding there (since everything is outside) and provided a list of vendors that went with any budget. Lynn, the museum liaison, was great to work with, we squeezed in a tour for cocktail hour, and our guests loved it. If you are looking for a small, beach ceremony with a historical twist, this is the perfect place!
