So Glad We Picked Hotel Viking!
Wow, what a great experience from start to finish! We’re so glad we chose to host our wedding at Hotel Viking. Everyone at Hotel Viking was respectful, kind, and professional with every interaction. We held our wedding ceremony in Kay Chapel, which is a nondenominational chapel now owned by the hotel. It was beautiful. We then had our cocktail hour in the Thames Room and our reception in Bellevue Ballroom. Linda from Hotel Viking answered every question, accommodated every special request, and supported us the whole way through. As I was getting ready to walk down the aisle, I was psyched to have her nearby. All of our guests LOVED the food and expressed that the hotel staff were friendly and helpful. My husband and I had a blast and felt like it was truly our dream wedding. Guests had a blast, too. The bridal party had an enormous suite to get ready in and it allowed the hair and makeup to spread out and still left room for the girls to gather, take photos, eat, drink, and lounge. Thank you for a GREAT day, Hotel Viking, and for your partnership throughout the planning process! -

Beautiful venue with wonderful service
I worked with the staff at Hotel Viking as a wedding planner (rosandco.com) for months leading up to my clients wedding and on the wedding day. Linda F. was both abundantly helpful and accommodating. They honored all of the requests we had leading up to the day and made my day of set up go so smoothly. The staff was professional and helped me ensure everything went according to schedule. I will definitely be recommending to my future couples! -

Newport Wedding - Charm & Convenience
We had our wedding at Hotel Viking and from start to finish, everyone involved was super helpful and attentive, especially Linda. Our big day felt so special and we could not have chosen a better venue for a winter wedding. We had our ceremony at Kay Chapel and the proximity to Hotel Viking added such value, we received so many compliments from the guests about this too. We always knew we wanted our wedding to be in Newport and at Kay Chapel and Hotel Viking, you definitely get that historic charm. Since these places were so naturally pretty, we didn't need to go over the top with decor.
The food & drinks at the hotel were absolutely delicious. They had plenty of options for everyone and were super accommodating for guests that had allergies.
All in all, we had our dream wedding at Hotel Viking and I would definitely recommend it to anyone else looking to get married in Newport. I cannot compliment the staff enough from to the valet staff to the front desk associates, and everyone in between. -

Couples Choice Awards
My husband and I were so very thrilled by the team at Hotel Viking! First, Linda was a joy to work with. She was professional, kind, and honestly felt like family. The team helped us feel comfortable and answered all of our questions and made sure we had what we needed to make our day truly special. Second, the venue was stunning! Having our wedding at the hotel was easy for our guests, and incredibly special for us. From gorgeous photo opportunities, to just having all things ready and at your finger tips, it made for a memorable day and for simple logistics. We loved the romantic feel of the Kay Chapel, the upscale feel of the Viking Ballroom, and the boutique feel of the hotel. Lastly, the food was amazing! The chef was very responsive to our suggestions during the tastings, and helped us build a menu that made our day feel extra special. We look back at our wedding day as truly one of the happiest days of our lives, and are so grateful to Linda and the team for making it all possible. We highly recommend Hotel Viking to anyone else considering a venue that really goes the extra mile to help you make the day special, and for a place that will be beautiful for you and for your guests!-

Spectacular!
The day we toured Hotel Viking, we knew it was the perfect spot for our wedding. Everyone at Hotel Viking was so kind, patient, responsive, and professional. Throughout the entire wedding process, Jordan (Hotel Viking’s Event Coordinator) was extremely communicative, organized, and helpful. She answered every question of ours in a timely and professional manner. She made us feel valued and heard. Our wedding day was absolutely perfect because of the staff at Hotel Viking. The food was also spectacular and we enjoyed dancing the night away in the Viking Ballroom. We highly recommend Hotel Viking for all weddings and events! -

An absolute dream venue!
The Hotel Viking was an absolute dream! Throughout every part of the process, the staff went above and beyond to make our day special! Linda started out as our coordinator, and she was nothing but a class act. She’s a calming presence, and she was able to answer all of our questions (usually same day or next day!) Jordan took over as coordinator for the week of our wedding, and her professionalism not only met but exceeded our expectations! The front desk staff and valets were always friendly and welcoming. Chef Kevin’s food is unbelievably delicious! They also have immensely talented bartenders (big shoutout to Laura!) Kay Chapel is what initially drew me to the venue. It’s just as magical in person as it is in photos, and the Bellevue Ballroom gave us all of the classic Newport elegance! I could go on and on, but I’ll end with this: if you’re thinking about booking Hotel Viking for your wedding venue, you won’t regret it! -

The staff is incredible and very accommodating. It was a seamless and beautiful wedding.
I was my daughter’s wedding planner and we started our journey at the Hotel Viking for my daughters wedding with Linda Ferguson. She was extremely responsive and helpful. Then towards the end, Jordan joined the team, and she was equally as professional and accommodating. It was a beautiful wedding, and the staff was wonderful to work with from the front desk, to the room, staff, to the banquet of people, bartenders, especially Frank , and of course the wedding planners. -

Excellent coordination, services, and venue for an amazing wedding event!
The Hotel Viking was an amazing spot for our wedding in August 2022. Linda Ferguson, the Wedding Day of Coordinator and Event Coordinator, is a great asset to the hotel. The Hotel has a great style for guests to enjoy the ambiance, the food options are amazing and tasty, and the wedding options can really be customized. The on-site chapel is beautiful and great for guests to have valet parking all night, walk to the chapel or courtyard for a ceremony, and then walk to the ballroom of your choice for the reception. The rooms and suites are beautiful as well. Rooftop bar is also a great perk for guests who arrive early or stay the night to enjoy!-

Romantic, Historic, Attentive, Absolute Perfection
From the moment we pulled up to Hotel Viking my fiancé and I fell in love. We were so impressed with the responsiveness and professionalism we experienced with the staff from our tour through checking out after our Wedding. Linda was amazing to work with and made the planning process feel effortless. She was extremely accommodating to any of our needs and requests for our day and helped bring our dream Wedding to life. We had our reception in the Viking Ballroom and held an after wedding bunch in the Thames room. The food was amazing and hospitality was exceptional. The staff were very attentive from the moment we checked in for the weekend and made sure everything was executed flawlessly. I highly recommend Hotel Viking to any couples looking for a romantic, historic, all in one venue. -

Dream come true
A wedding day is something that a girl begins to dream of far before the day is on the horizon. I know that was the case for me. When my husband and I had gotten engaged we looked at two venues local to our home but shortly after made our way to Newport, Rhode Island after seeing photos of Hotel Viking on Wedding Wire and The Knot. It’s safe to say our visit was another one of those love at first site moments. Linda Ferguson spent three hours with us on our preliminary visit to the venue and it was clear to us that she puts as much effort and dedication into her clients weddings that her actual client does. Over the next two years we remained in near constant contact with Linda. She would answer any questions I had and something I appreciated even more is if she didn’t have the answer she would find it for me and get back to me.
Just four days before our wedding my husband and I both got Covid. We reached out to Linda and she and the team at Hotel Viking approached our situation with the utmost care and compassion. They were incredibly gracious and empathetic of our heart break but very quickly helped us to put the pieces back together. Just six weeks to the day of our would-be wedding date, we were married in the Kay Chapel at Hotel Viking and had a welcome reception the day before our wedding and a brunch to send our guest off the morning after.
Weddings are made up in your mind to be fairy tale moments and Hotel Viking is committed to that. The caliber of hospitality offered by Linda, Christian and the supporting team members comes unparalleled by what I have seen before. My husband and I as well as our parents are all eternally grateful for the phenomenal experience we had at Hotel Viking with Linda at the helm. It was a weekend of sheer perfection and I couldn’t imagine it any differently.
Thank you to Linda, Christian and the team at Hotel Viking, you really did make our dreams come true. -

2022 Winter Wedding Wonderland
Our wedding at Hotel Viking was absolutely beyond what we had hoped it would be! Linda and everyone involved made sure everything was handled just as we wanted. They were responsive, courteous, and absolute professionals at every step of the way. We particularly appreciated how they honored their word despite some COVID scheduling hiccups the year before and how they worked with us to accommodate changing plans. On top of all that, they were a GREAT deal financially. We cannot recommend them enough. -

Great Experience!
Our wedding and reception at Hotel Viking were perfect, and both events were organized and ran smoothly due to the help from the staff at Hotel Viking, particularly Linda Ferguson. She went above and beyond to make sure every detail was accounted for. Our wedding had to be rescheduled for a year because of the pandemic, and Hotel Viking was incredibly flexible and accommodating during this difficult time. Beautiful venue; helpful staff! -

A Perfect Wedding at The Viking Hotel
We had the privilege of having our Newport destination wedding at The Viking Hotel on November 7, 2021.
Given the state of the world sand the pandemic, to come together and celebrate our marriage was even more meaningful to us. Our entire weekend was joyful with flawless service because of the entire staff. Every interaction was positive, warm and welcoming. You could tell the team was excited for us and happy to have us at the Hotel.
The journey at The Viking started in February when we made appointments to see two venues to determine if Newport was the right fit for us as no one is local to Rhode Island. I reached out via the website and Linda Ferguson was the first to respond and schedule a site visit. She was also the first to send me menus and additional information and some availability for October and November of 2021.
We arrived at the hotel for our appointment and Joe at the door was waiting for us and knew we were here to see Linda. As soon as we walked in I knew it was the place for us. The Viking has done many renovations and enhancements and our wedding colours were pink and blue! We had an extremely thorough tour with Linda of Hotel and Kay Chapel and I fell in love with the Bellevue Ballroom. The Hotel felt more of a boutique manor than a hotel.
We went back to the car and I wanted to cancel the other appointments but I didn’t. We came back the next day which was Saturday and Joe was there to greet us again as I wanted to look at space one more time as we are not local. He was a terrific ambassador and went into great detail of what to expect in the fall when the hotel was back 100% operationally in a peak season.
Cut to the next week where Linda and Robin worked with me on my dates, budget and room block. I signed within the week!!!!
Over the next few months, Linda and Cassandra were there to answer all questions, refer vendors, make rooming changes, schedule tastings and tour my family again in April. They always responded quickly and thoroughly and I felt that the whole team was working with me.
In October we came and spent the night for the first time for our tasting. Linda once again walked the space with me and we diagrammed the layout and went through my questions. We were delighted to meet Chef Kevin who helped us select some alternatives for my Italian groom – and went off the menu for some items we really wanted. When we fell short of our F&B minimum Linda and the Chef worked with me on adding a seasonal soup and late night cheeseburgers and fries for my guests.
Finally the big weekend arrived….most guests arriving early Thursday and Friday and spending 3-4 nights to celebrate with us and see the sites of Newport. We held a dinner at Sardella’s and Lobster Boil and then the main event.
The staff at Front desk and housekeeping were amazing. The Director of Ops introduced himself during our tasting and remembered us. All the housekeeping and last minute requests were handled perfectly. All my guests loved the hotel and at least 10 of them are also hospitality professionals so they are very picky. Linda made sure my suite was serviced as we had quite a few guests all weekend long. The amenities sent to us were lovely and I thank you.
The ceremony was amazing and Linda was there to calm any nerves and help get everyone down the aisle in one piece. She was also there to witness a very emotional groom during the rehearsal so I am sure she knew she had her hands full.
The Ballroom looked beautiful and the vision I had was brought to life by Linda and the banquet team. I did not get the name of the Banquet Manager but she was so lovely. She made sure everything was going smoothly and checked in with us and explained what needed to be picked up and gave me until the next day to do so. The food was not only delicious but hot. The specialty meats on the charcuterie board were greatly appreciated by all guests. The chef took time to come see us and the banquet captain was there to make sure me and Kenny had everything and helped me with my chair each time I got up…..which was a lot. They worked fabulously as a team.
I use the word perfect every time I am asked how my wedding was and it really was. I was not stressed and really enjoyed my time with my guests and on the dance floor. I truly wish we could do it again!!!!!
We are so grateful for everything The Viking did for us and I cannot recommend this hotel and team enough. I am a twenty year hospitality professional and event planner and it was amazing!

We are very happy that we went with the hotel Viking for our wedding. It was very easy to plan with their coordinator and the grounds themselves were quite stunning. Very good experience. -

First Choice!!
From the very first message to Hotel Viking as a vendor, I knew I was going to want them. I sent the request for information through wedding wire and Nancy with Hotel Viking responded right away with details of the hotels history and pictures of their spaces and the wedding package and menu options. I liked that they gave us all the information up front rather than having to ask for it in pieces. Then when we went for a tour the employees were friendly and prompt and they had drinks and an appetizer for us to try!! It was an experience like no other, they truly wanted us there. The spaces were beautiful, they have several options to suit any size, and they also have the beautiful Kay Chapel on property, so if you want a classic feel but nondenominational this was perfect! The hotel staff made sure to keep in touch anytime there were further details we needed to be filling out, so I didn't have to worry about forgetting something, and they were very responsive when I had questions. They did a good job coordinating with my other vendors to make sure everything went smoothly. The staff in charge of the day made sure to introduce themselves to me and let me know they were taking care of things. It was perfect and beautiful. They have also been renovating the hotel so things are a little newer while keeping the historic charm, they have some rooms that are now pet friendly. -

Our New Year's Eve wedding at the Kay Chapel and Hotel Viking was absolutely everything we had hoped for and more. Let me just start by saying how Nancy is one of the best in the business and absolutely made the experience easy and fun. She remembered every last detail and kept me calm and at ease the day of. The Kay Chapel is gorgeous and made for stunning night pictures. The Bellevue Room was setup exactly how I envisioned it, and Nancy made sure that we were taken care of the entire night and that we had nothing to stress about. Food tasted exactly how it did during our food tasting and we got lots of compliments about it afterward. Words can't thank Nancy enough for how wonderful she was over the last 14 months. If you are a bride looking to work with a wonderful team, you should absolutely consider Hotel Viking -

The Hotel Viking was the third wedding venue my fiancé and I went to see, and immediately something just felt right. First, Linda Ferguson was welcoming, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. Throughout the entire tour she was helpful but never pushy, she knew the venue would speak for itself. A few days following the tour of the Viking my fiancé and I booked our wedding reception with the ceremony at the Kay Chapel.
The planning process was seamless. Linda answered every question I had quickly and completely, making suggestions along the way. I loved that the Viking really caters to what you envision your wedding day to be. Linda always told us what was offered, but always mentioned that we could modify to suit what we wanted (from where the bar is located in cocktail hour to what side is served with an entree).
The food, service, and attention to detail at the Viking was impeccable. Following the wedding so many of my guests came up to me to tell me how much they loved our venue, charming chapel, and delicious food!
I truly could go on and on (if space allowed) about how great my experience was with the Viking, and especially Linda! (I knew that if Linda was involved with something, it was going to be perfect.) There is not a single thing I would change about my experience at the Viking and Kay Chapel! I highly recommend giving the Hotel Viking a look if you are searching for the perfect venue! -

The Hotel Viking is an IDEAL location for your wedding. Linda went above and beyond for us from start to finish. As I write this, I remember looking at endless venue reviews just last summer, trying to find the best fit for my wedding. You needn't look any further. You will be treated like royalty at the Viking. The food, the ambiance, the estate rooms...not a single stone is left unturned. Our guests (we had a small wedding -- 60 guests) LOVED Newport and the picturesque beauty of this seaside town. The Viking hosted the majority of our guests and they raved about it. Our cake was perfect, the ballroom exquisite (black linens with gold charger plates and chivari chairs -- trust me on this one!), the chapel stunning...our photographs are incredible. Again, Linda was the star of the show. She is patient, poised, knowledgable, kind, encouraging and above all, a strong and confident leader. You will LOVE having your wedding at the Viking. I wish it was already our anniversary so we could have an excuse to return! Thank you times a million, Linda! With love, your greatest "phans," the Phams <3 -

We had our wedding at Hotel Viking on Dec 31, 2016. Everything went very smoothly from the very beginning of the process to the end, and exceeded our expectations. The process of organizing the event was laid out to us when we booked the venue. We worked with Nancy Rusiloski - who I can't say enough good things about! She made the wedding day as stress-free as possible. I completely trusted her and her team to do the set-up and she did not disappoint. The food was absolutely amazing, and all our guests raved about it! I would highly recommend a wedding at Hotel Viking, and I am already looking forward to going back to visit. Also - the Kay Chapel was the perfect ceremony venue! -

We chose the Hotel Viking for a room block and also to host the groom and his family in the days before the wedding. They were very helpful to our out of town guests, delivered letters to our guest's rooms with information for the big day, and were just generally friendly to work with. Thank you for making our weekend easy! -

My wife and I could not have had a more positive experience in working with Joanna to plan our wedding. Since we were on our own in throwing this party, and having never gone through the experience before, we were understandably quite nervous about our ability to pull off what would in essence be a destination wedding. Joanna calmed our nerves immediately upon our first meeting. Her patience, sense of humor, judgment, and professionalism in handling every aspect of our wedding made us feel confident that we could actually pull the whole thing off. She was with us every step of the way – from initial planning, to helping us find local vendors, to managing the ceremony – and every step in between.
Our wedding weekend could not have turned out better, and we could never have done it without Joanna. For that we will be forever grateful, and we will always remember the huge part she played in making it all happen.

I am not at all surprised to see all the rave reviews here. My husband and I could not be happier about our decision to get married at Hotel Viking. We had our ceremony in the beautiful Kay Chapel, our cocktail hour in the courtyard, and our reception in the Thames room. (We had a small wedding of only 33 guests, which is why we did not use the ballroom.) I liked how we could do everything in one location. We even had drinks with our guests on the rooftop the night before. Planning was a breeze. Linda Ferguson is as great as everyone says she his- super responsive and accommodating. And most importantly, everything was perfect on the big day. The food was delicious and the service was phenomenal. I would highly recommend Hotel Viking for anyone wishing to get married in Newport. -

Our rehearsal dinner was absolutely magical and beautiful! We had a cocktail hour in the courtyard with fire pits and gorgeous lighting, then moved inside for an absolutely delicious dinner (all with the best drinks!) I cannot say enough great things about the entire experience! It was a BEAUTIFUL venue, fantastic service, delicious food, great drinks and very reasonably priced! Linda was by my side every step of the way and made the entire planning process incredibly easy. She was so helpful and attentive, as was everyone on service. All of our guests raved about how truly wonderful our rehearsal dinner was. Everything was flawless! Highly recommend this location for a wedding or rehearsal dinner! -

My husband and I had our dream wedding at the Hotel Viking in Newport. We worked closely with Linda Ferguson, the event coordinator, throughout the entire process. Linda was extremely helpful during wedding planning and if we ever had any questions always provided a prompt answer. The day of wedding rehearsal and wedding we didn't have to worry about anything! Linda knew exactly what we wanted and coordinated with all our vendors to make our vision come true! We had our ceremony in the Kay Chapel which I fell in love with the minute I saw. The chapel is adorable and gives the feeling of a beautiful little church while being non religious. You also can't beat the proximity to the Viking. We had so many guests tell us how beautiful the chapel was. Last, but not least, all the Viking staff went above and beyond for us. They were always making sure we were comfortable. Our guests loved the food! Can't say enough good things about the Viking! -

We couldn't have possibly had a better wedding planning experience if it weren't for the expertise of The Hotel Viking's wedding planner, Linda Ferguson. Living in a different part of the country than where you're planning your wedding can be incredibly difficult but Linda made everything so easy. Knowing I had her to rely on gave me the peace of mind that not only was everything taken care of but also that I hadn't forgotten anything. She made me feel so comfortable in making decisions, giving me advice whenever I needed it. I liked Linda from the first phone call I had with her until after my wedding. When calling wedding venues, my interaction with Linda Ferguson was one of the main selling points for my husband, my mother and myself in choosing The Hotel Viking.
Other factors in choosing The Hotel Viking included their reasonable prices (for Newport, RI), their incredibly beautiful, historic Kay Chapel, as well as the timeless elegance of the hotel itself. The food was outstanding with very generous portions. There is not a doubt in my mind that we chose the right place for the wedding of my dreams. I couldn't compliment them enough: Linda Ferguson, The Hotel Viking, and their entire staff. -

We loved everything about our experience at the Hotel Viking. Linda was wonderful and attentive to our every request. Our only complaint was the no one in the party seemed to like the Lobster Bisque we selected as our soup. Perhaps we should have tasted it before? But the rest of the food was absolutely fantastic. -

We had an absolutely lovely experience having our wedding at the Hotel Viking. When I initially inquired, Linda Ferguson emailed me back with the package and pricing information. We went to Newport to meet with Linda and decided that this was where we wanted to have our wedding. We had our rehearsal dinner in the Colonnade Room, ceremony at Kay Chapel, and dinner/dancing in the Bellevue Ballroom. We had a lovely suite which was the perfect size. On Friday night we held our rehearsal dinner. Since our wedding was the week before Thanksgiving, we had a plated turkey dinner. I am still hearing about how good the meal was – (especially the stuffing!) Saturday was a whirl-wind, but looking back the day it couldn’t have been more perfect. Having the Touro Room for hair/makeup worked out great and was really convenient! The Kay Chapel was so cozy and charming and looked amazing. When I walked in to the ballroom before dinner/dancing with my new Husband and Photographer to take some photos, I literally gasped. The room (which is already beautiful) was transformed in to the most glamorous ballroom that I have ever seen.
The food was delicious – we started with lobster bisque, caesar salad and gave (3) choices of entrees – everyone enjoyed and raved about the food! Last but not least, Linda Ferguson was truly wonderful to work with. She was approachable, responded quickly, and helped us every step of the way. I can’t say enough nice things about her. I would also like to make mention that the valet service/bellman that were especially helpful to all of our friends and family.
A beautiful hotel in a beautiful place. We will cherish our memories at the Hotel Viking for a lifetime.

This venue is beyond gorgeous! The employees as well are so accommodating. Nancy in particular, who was our wedding coordinator from the hotel made sure that on the day of the wedding we had nothing to worry about. She assured us that on that day everything was in her hands, and afterwards we were amazed by how everything came together. We wouldn't change anything about our day. The hotel was gorgeous and our guests had a great time and they enjoyed their stay. The communication as well with the outside vendors and the hotel were flawless. Every vendor was contact by Nancy prior to the date to assure that they had everything the needed to complete our day. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone getting married in Newport, RI. The best thing is that the hotel provides almost everything in one package so it reduces the amount of vendors we needed to hire. And for those that were not contracted, we were given a ton of referrals for great vendors. -

However, the wedding staff genuinely cares about their couples and does everything in their power to make sure the special day goes off without a hitch. The space itself is gorgeous and the guest rooms are beautiful. A perfect upscale boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Newport.
Nancy, the sales woman, is precious. She accommodated every request I had, and believe me, I had hundreds. Andrea, the woman who runs the event the day of, is helpful ndn on top of everything. There was even a waiter dedicated just to my husband and I, he was there just to make sure we got everything we needed. He snuck me a 2nd bowl of soup and made sure our drinks were never empty. Just what we needed after a big day.
I LOVED the Hotel Viking and would 100% recommend them to anyone looking to have a Newport wedding. For an upscale boutique hotel right in the heart of downtown Newport, the packages were very reasonably priced. They were able to tailor the package to fit my ideal dream wedding and made sure every detail was what I'd always dreamed of. Guests loved the hotel and the group wedding rate. The rooms are gorgeous, and the honeymoon suite was perfect. I stayed in the room the night before and got ready in the room the day of. The suite has 2 bathrooms, a bed room and living room area. My 6 bridesmaids, mother, mother-in-law, 2 photographers, 2 hair and makeup ladies, 3 flower girls, 2 aunts, other miscellaneous family members and I all fit in the room while we got ready with room to spare. It was quite spacious!
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The day of I requested 2 dozen champaign glasses and 4 ice buckets to be brought to my room for a toast and they were there within minutes. I can't wait to go back to the Viking. LOVED it! -

It really was the perfect wedding weekend! Our ceremony was held at Kay Chapel, our cocktail hour was in the courtyard (thank god for warm September weather) and our reception was in the Viking Ballroom (downstairs). We also hosted a breakfast Sunday morning in the courtyard for our guests that stayed in the hotel.
I really loved the overall experience and style of the Hotel Viking, it definitely has an intimate, classy and charming feel to it, which was a perfect fit for our wedding.
Kay Chapel is simple and elegant, certainly a gem! Our guests also loved that it was a short walk from the Chapel to the Hotel for the cocktail hour/reception (no need to get back in the car). The cocktail hour was really nice, we had rented white lanterns from our florist, and he placed them throughout the courtyard. They looked lovely! The ballroom looked beautiful, the food was excellent (I received many compliments from our guests), and the staff was very friendly and attentive. Our waiter came over to us many times during the evening to see if he could get us anything else.
I worked with Linda Ferguson at the Hotel Viking, and she was a pleasure to work with. She was very helpful throughout the planning process, very responsive to my many, many questions, and certainly accommodating. The day before our wedding, our wedding day and at our Sunday breakfast, Linda checked in with us to ensure everything was going well. She goes out of her way, to make sure everything goes well.
Overall, our experience with the Hotel Viking was PERFECT…. I wouldn't have changed a thing. We had such a nice and fun weekend, certainly a time to remember!!!

My husband and I celebrated our wedding at Hotel Viking recently. The ceremony was at the charming Kay Chapel and the reception in the beautiful Bellevue Ballroom. We planned our wedding from Boston and I am a law student, so I was expecting it to be a very stressful several months leading up to the big day. Our event coordinator Linda Ferguson was amazing - responsive, accommodating, and completely on point. She made the entire process so easy and stress-free. She made great suggestions and knew exactly how to execute our beautiful wedding. Our day went off without a hitch, and my guests are still raving about the venue, the food, and how much they enjoyed our wedding. The staff at Viking was also fantastic. Servers and bartenders were friendly and helpful, and valets and everyone working at the desk was great. I really cannot say enough about Hotel Viking. We will remember our wedding day for the rest of our lives and look forward to returning to the Viking for our anniversary for years to come. -

Every detail of our wedding weekend was amazing! We were first drawn to Hotel Viking for the location and atmosphere. We also held the ceremony at Kay Chapel and hosted a brunch the next day in the Colonade room. The convenience of all the events was wonderful, as we had many out of town guests. The entire staff at the hotel was extremely friendly and accommodating. Our event planner, Linda, was THE BEST! Her attention to detail and responsiveness thoroughout the whole 12+ month process was wonderful and made the wedding seamless. Thank you! -

Linda far exceede all of our expectations. She was not only extreamly professional and excellent in her job. She was flexible , friendly and made us feel like we were her only priority. That our day was just as important to her as it was to us. Weddings are stressful as we all know and to know Linda was taking care of everything and was so dependable I sis to have to worry abt anything venue related. I could focus on other aspects only wedding. She really created a special memory for us and we will be coming back to the Viking to celebrate each anniversary. Linda is amazing without her we would have been lost. -

I planned my elopement package with Linda at the Hotel Viking and had my wedding at the charming Kay Chapel. Everything from the moment we arrived was just perfect! We met with the officiant and Linda, and when we arrived in our suite, there was champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. The next day was my ceremony and due to unexpected rain, the Hotel provided transportation for me to the Chapel which is only a block away. The gentlemen who work the valet area were also commendable, helpful and very personable. Our package included a wedding dinner and bottle of champagne in the Hotel's restaurant, One Bellevue. The manager, Frederico, was the best--he personally came over to make sure everything was to our liking and that we had a nice corner table. The food was delicious. Overall, we had a great experience and can't wait to come back for our anniversary, if not before! -

Our winter wedding at the Viking was so great!
We were married in Kay Chapel (simple, cozy, New England charm) and we hosted our reception in the Viking Ballroom. We also hosted a morning-after breakfast in the Bellevue Ballroom. Everything, from the moment we arrived on Thursday morning until the moment we drove away on Sunday afternoon, was handled with professionalism, wowing our parents, guests and us (the bride and groom).
Furthermore, the months and months of planning with Linda Ferguson were productive, efficient and smooth. Linda is on the top of her game. She is smart, kind, flexible and thoughtful. She works seamlessly with your vendors. She gets to know you and your family and then alleviates any doubts and ultimately delivers an experience that keeps to your budget and exceeds your expectations. As someone who somewhat works in the business, I had zero concerns when working with Linda.
Overall: The location in Newport is perfect, the hotel rooms are comfortable and nice, the food is delicious, and the staff (kudos to the front desk team and bells who didn't blink when we handed over our room drop spreadsheet) is focused and nimble.
Thank you, Hotel Viking (and thank you x 1,000, Linda)! -

My husband and I chose the Hotel Viking for our wedding and it was a dream come true! right from the start Linda was fantastic and was able to make everything that we wanted a reality. The room we had was big enough for all our guest to feel comfortable and not crowded. We went for a food tasting and was nervous that the food we had then wouldn't taste like the food at the actual wedding, we were wrong! The food was beyond delicious! Our guests really enjoyed what we chose and how it was prepared. We had a few guests that would need special accommodation's due to allergies and the Viking had no problem creating something as delicious as everyone elses dinners. -

While we had our reception elsewhere, we chose Kay Chapel for our ceremony for its history and simple beauty. We worked with Marianne from the Hotel Viking, who was fantastic. She was very thoughtful in helping us plan the flow of the day, making suggestions on how to proceed with music and décor. During the rehearsal and day of, she kept everything running extremely smooth and effortless. Kay Chapel is such a special place for a ceremony and their team is wonderful. -

We were married on July 22, 2012. The ceremony was held at the Kay Chapel and reception was at the Bellevue Ballroom. The chapel was renovated but kept the vintage (not "old") and classy feelings which were perfect for my wedding, or any wedding in Newport. The decor in the chapel is simple and elegant. I didn't have to add in too much additional touch and it was perfect. Similar to the chapel, the hotel also was renovated but kept the vintage and classy decors. It feels just right. The food was excellent. There were so many options that we could choose from. My father-in-law is a picky eater and he LOVED it! All my guests still rave about it today. The staffs were very nice and they did a great job! I have to give a special shout to our catering manager, Linda Ferguson. She is the best! I had visited a few venues in the Newport area before came to the Viking. None of the coordinators came even close to Linda. She is so attentive since day one. She really put her heart into the wedding. Throughout the entire process, Linda was also very responsive and accommodating. She paid attention to what we said and gave us many good ideas. Linda made sure every detail was just the way we wanted. On the wedding day, Linda constant checked in with us to ensure everything was going well.
Overall, our experience with the Hotel Viking was great and we were glad we chose this venue. I definitely will recommend to other brides.

We chose the Hotel Viking because of the atmosphere, location and overall level of service from the staff. I had always envisioned an elegant and classic setting, and fell in-love with the 1920's, great-American allure of the Hotel Viking. The chapel is perfect in size and demeanor, and you can truly bring it to life with your own style and character. We planned our wedding from out-of-town and the level of attention from the staff was unprecedented. It was exactly what every bride wants and needs, especially from afar. The experienced staff were true professionals and flawlessly brought our vision to life, especially our dedicated coordinator, Linda Ferguson. She provided excellent recommendations for other services including rehearsal dinner, hair and makeup, and flowers. The food was phenomenal for both the cocktail our and reception - large portion-sizes from an award-winning chef. The servers and staff made us feel like our wedding was the only one in the world that mattered that day. Our guests stayed at the hotel, which made for an all-inclusive weekend. Located in the heart of Newport, it felt like a romantic voyage back in time. Our wedding day at the Hotel Viking was absolutely magical - every bride should be lucky enough to have the same experience. -

I literally felt like a princess from the moment I pulled up on friday to the second I left on Sunday. It was the most amazing experience, I didn't want to leave. I worked with Linda Ferguson, the entire process, she was AMAZING!!! Such a sweet woman and would get back to me right away. Linda knew so much and her guidance and expertise helped us through the whole wedding process, not just the wedding day. She would help with anything from Linens to helping us with other vendors, she was fantastic. I also worked with Mariann a couple times and she was great!!!! The Bellman were fantastic! The staff at the Viking is the best The hotel is so beautiful and so clean. Spa Terre inside the Viking was AMAZING!!! I had a hot stone massage done by Catrina, that was fantastic and RELAXING!!!! I would recommend anyone to go there. The FOOD was amazing!!! When we went around to thank everyone, each guest raved about the food. I have people calling us asking what the marinade was in the salmon and how they make the brie passed hor dourves, everyone raved about everything. People keep emailing me and calling my parents about how great the Viking was. I'm so lucky to have gotten married there. I would not have changed a thing, it was the best experience and the best day of my life. -

Linda was absolutely amazing to work with, very helpful, responsive, and such a sweetheart. I cannot comment about this venue without saying this- The Hotel Viking has fantastic food!! Our guests are still raving about the incredible meals that that they enjoyed at our wedding. We have had several people tell us that they are willing to take the drive to Newport just to eat at the restaurant because they enjoyed the food so much. We spent the weekend at the hotel and loved the fact that everything was in the same spot and we had so much to do... the chapel is right there, the ballroom of course, our guests could stay right on location, even the spa and the pool was available for the bridal party to relax and enjoy. I highly recommend this venue to anyone who is considering it! -

We got married at the Kay Chapel and had our reception at the Hotel Viking in December of 2011. The entire event was everything that I hoped it would be! The Hotel Viking is traditional, outstanding and eloquent. Linda Ferguson was our wedding coordinator and she did a fantastic job!! I was so nervous that our guests would not know where to go but Linda made everything so perfect. Everyone was informed and escorted to where they needed to be. From the Chapel to the cocktail party to the reception, the night was flawless.
Our reception was in the Bellevue Ballroom and everything was beautiful. The staff was exceptional! They were there for us throughout the evening and payed such close attention to all of the guests! The hotel service was also outstanding. I am delighted to give the Hotel Viking the highest of reviews. -

Our wedding was at the Kay Chapel and our reception was at the Hotel Viking. It was so well done and the staff at the Viking was outstanding. Everyone I talked to said it was the best wedding they had ever been to. I can't thank the staff at the Hotel Viking enough! -

We got married at the Hotel Viking on November 12, 2011, and couldn't have more positive things to say about the whole experience, from start to finish. The most impressive asset of the venue is Linda Ferguson, who was straightforward and honest with us from the very beginning. Linda worked hard to make sure anything and everything we asked for could be done, and she was responsive, professional, and personable. Considering I was planning the wedding from the DC area, having Linda as my contact up there put me at ease about everything. We had cocktails in the Colonnade Room which was airy and delightful, and the reception was in the Bellevue Ballroom which was the perfect size for about 120 people. In short, at the Hotel Viking I didn't have to worry about a thing and everything went off without a hitch. I couldn't recommend the venue with any higher marks! -

We got married at the Hotel Viking in May 2011 and could not be happier with our choice of venue. Linda Fergueson, our wedding coordinator, was absolutely AMAZING!!! She responded to every e-mail so quickly and did everything to make us feel comfortable and to accomodate us. Our reception was in the Bellevue Ballroom downstairs, everything was beautiful and the staff did an excellent job! They were there for us throughout the evening, asking if we needed anything or if they could do anything for us. The hotel service was also outstanding, they were so readily available. I could not say enough good things about the Hotel Viking and Linda! -

I am writing as a mother of the bride who handled most of the wedding planning due to the bride's career demands. Working with Linda Ferguson was a delight! She treated my daughter and her wedding like she was the only bride getting married there! My daughter fell in love with The Hotel Viking on our first visit, but it was working with Linda that sealed the deal for us. We knew immediately that she would work to give my daughter the wedding of her dreams, and she didn't let us down. On wedding day, the entire staff at the hotel couldn't have been more accommodating. They were kind and attended to even the smallest details. The food was amazing and it truly was a good value for what you received. If I could give more than 5 stars to Linda and The Hotel Viking, I would. Guest are still talking about what a wonderful wedding it was! -

I can't say enough good things about our experience with the Hotel Viking! From our initial site visit through the day after the wedding and from Linda Ferguson (the Viking's FABULOUS wedding coordinator!) to the hotel staff- I couldn't have been more impressed with the level of service, responsiveness, and attention to detail. We used Kay Chapel for the ceremony, the Colonnade Room for the cocktail hour, and the Bellevue Ballroom for the reception. The flow of the day was great- I loved that my guests didn't need to leave the property for any portion of the day. The chapel and hotel showcase Newport's history perfectly and there are dozens of gorgeous photo opportunities right within walking distance. The food and service during the cocktail hour and reception were amazing as well - I can't tell you how many compliments I received! I'd recommend the Viking without hesitation - we can't wait to return for our one-year anniversary! -

My husband and I decided on hosting our wedding at the Hotel Viking after we had looked into many different locations in RI, Newport particularly. We decided on the Hotel Viking for the central location, amenities at our disposal as well as that of our guests as well as the flexibility and professionalism of the staff. Looking back at our wedding day almost one year later, we would not have had our wedding any where else. Linda Ferguson, the wedding coordinator, was more than accessible via email, telephone as well as in person. She was outstanding! The week before the wedding, I was a bit stressed and had to call on Linda to check on things and I never once had to double check on something. Once I asked her something, it was done and I never had to worry or think about it again! She was considerate and hospitable at our tasting as my mother and father had joined us. She showed us the chapel again, walked us through the rehearsal as well as the day of events.
The rehearsal day/evening was a bit overwhelming trying to appease 30 people (children included) she gathered each one, maintained control and was calm and collected throughout the rehearsal. Let's face it girls, our critical mind is not working well the day before the wedding!
The morning of, my "bridal first aid kit" was on the trolley, the vendors were sent to my room as well as that of my husband's, my dress was always fluffed, and guests had no question where to park, directions to chapel, and the events to follow.
While the wedding party was at the photo shoot, I was up in the air about where we would host the cocktail hour. I truly wanted to have it outside, but Linda knew that it would be a little too cool outside and immediately set everything up inside in the Colonnade room. I have to say it was PERFECT!
During the reception, I was approached only twice to see how things were going. I had mentioned that I would like the band to play more instead of the DJ, BAM! It was like I rubbed a geenie bottle! She made it happen. My vendors were all very pleased at how things were run as far as their breaks etc so that truly the entire wedding was seamless.
I love watching the unedited video as I can truly see how much work went into our wedding behind the scenes even beyond what we had planned. Linda, Barbara and staff you are all wonderful!!!! -

We had our wedding reception at the Hotel Viking. The ballroom is gorgeous! The cocktail reception was at the outdoor courtyard which they recently remodeled. Linda Ferguson, Catering Sales Manager, worked with me from beginning to end to make sure our wedding day was beautiful! Everything came together and we had an amazing time. The Hotel Viking is a historic elegant hotel in Newport, RI. I recommend this venue!!!!! -

This is a beautiful place to have a wedding and the chapel adjacent to the Hotel is a perfect location for a ceremony and then an easy walk to the reception. Linda Fergurson was the event coordinator and she was so helpful and very calming which is what every bride needs:) The food was fantastic and not your very typical wedding food. Very gourmet. I was aiming for a vintage, antique wedding and the Hotel Viking was the perfect backdrop. -

The Hotel Viking really made our dream wedding come true. As New Yorkers, we have a deep connection with Newport and wanted to bring our family there to show them what we loved so much for our special day. The Hotel Viking not only provided a gorgeous, elegant, and classy atmosphere - the staff was responsive and quick to help. The gorgeous holiday decorations just enhanced our experience and contributed to the ambiance we were trying to create. The guest rooms were cozy, there is a spa on premises, an indoor pool, restaurant/lounge and is also pet friendly. Our pet is a very close part of our family so I was happy that she could be there with us as well. The Hotel Viking also owns a non-denominational chapel which can be rented for use - which is where we had our ceremony. You are free to create any ceremony that is meaningful to you. It is only steps away from the hotel, a gorgeous landmark, and extremely convenient for bridal party and guests. The cocktail hour and reception ran smoothly with a great staff, AMAZING food, and a gorgeous intimate atmosphere. At the end of the event, they brought everything back to my room with no worries!! Linda Ferguson was my catering manager and she was totally amazing, responsive, and friendly! We had the time of our lives at our wedding and all our guests have said over and over how wonderful and delicious everything was. I would absolutely recommend the Hotel Viking!! -

We can't say enough about our experience at Hotel Viking. Wedding coordinator, Linda, was absolutely the best! She made the process easy and smooth from the moment we took a tour to the day after the wedding. What we really loved was how everything took place at one location. The ceremony at Kay Chapel, cocktail hour in the courtyard, reception in the ballroom, after party at the hotel bar and rooms to stay the night. You need to schedule an appointment and let Linda show you all Hotel Viking has to offer. My husband and I promise you won't be disappointed!! -

We held a winter wedding at The Hotel Viking for 170 guests. We held both the reception and ceremony in the Viking Ballroom. We worked with Linda and we sooooo pleased. We and our guests were so pleased -- it truly exceeded expectations! Professional and courteous staff throughout the whole experience. The hotel itself is charming and loads of history. Our friends and families raved on how much fun it was. A big thanks to the Hotel Viking and even bigger to Linda Ferguson. -

Classic New England Elegance - - that was what my daughter and I were hoping to achieve - as we planned her recent wedding (ceremony and reception) at the Hotel Viking. And - without a doubt - both our expectations were exceeded by the time all was done.
Linda Ferguson, Catering Sales Manager, managed my daughter's wedding. Linda worked with us every step of the way - and made the entire process very easy. She was very warm, welcoming and genuine in her approach - - always available via email / phone - (even on off days). In the rare event she was unavailable - there was always someone who could help answer questions. She had a way of making us feel as if we were her only priority - every time we connected. She is highly organized, very professional, extremely flexible and accommodating. It was an absolute pleasure to work with her - - and I (as the mom) - was most appreciative of her guidance along the way.
The dinner was fabulous, received numerous compliments on our meal selections from our guests. Staff very attentive and accommodating as well. Centrally located in Newport - it was easy for our guests to get "out and about" and see some of the Newport sites in between wedding activities.
I have recommended the Hotel Viking to several of my friends who are just beginning their wedding planning journey - and encourage anyone thinking about Newport as a wedding destination - to take the time to explore the Hotel Viking. -

The Perfect Day
Words can't describe how amazing The Hotel Viking was for a wedding venue. Everything from the food to the atmosphere made for a weekend that was better than we could have ever imagined. When the weather appeared to be unseasonably warm during our November wedding, the event team let us move the cocktail hour to the courtyard making for an extra special experience. Linda and the team were extremely accommodating both leading up to the wedding and throughout the weekend. Additional kudos to the culinary team and the bartenders for making the cocktail hour/reception perfect. -

Great Experience
My wife and I got married at Hotel Viking in August of 2020, which is obviously during Covid. The hotel worked with us every step of the way, kept us informed, and did a great job of making sure our guests were safe, but that we still had a fun day. All of Rhode Island's guidelines were strictly followed, including mask-wearing, no dancing, and no shared food. We were nervous about how our wedding and reception would feel during a pandemic, but our experience at Hotel Viking and Kay Chapel far exceeded our expectations. We cannot recommend Linda and her team enough! -

Without a hitch
Planning remotely, I really wanted to make sure everything was as easy as possible to avoid any major issues on the day of. Nancy was our day of coordinator and was wonderfully responsive and professional as far as responding to my assorted questions and making sure that day of I only needed to worry about showing up. We choose the downstairs ballroom, the Viking ballroom because this came with the use of the courtyard space for cocktail hour. The weather was fortunately absolutely beautiful for the cocktail hour and the chapel is absolutely gorgeous. I can't say enough nice things about how convenient it was to have my hotel room, my chapel, cocktail hour, and the reception all together so that the whole day went off seamlessly. -

We had our ceremony & reception at the Hotel Viking. The Viking in every way far exeeded our expectations making our event so special that our friends & family are still talking about it two weeks later. We cannot say enough about how Linda Ferguson accomodated us in every detail from the moment that we first started to work with her. For our wedding weekend, the Viking staff went above & beyond making my wife & I & our guests feel special. No detail was too small. Even though Linda had multiple events going on at the same time as ours during the planning & implementation she was so attentive to us & Our event always responding quickly to our questions. We would highly recommend this beautiful venue for any wedding large or small - our experience was simply fantastic. -

My husband and I could not have picked a better place for our wedding! We had our ceremony in the Kay Chapel and reception in the Bellevue Ballroom at the Hotel Viking. Catering Manager, Linda Ferguson, worked with us and our personal wedding planners (Gracie Lou Events) to come up with a custom package to include what we wanted and to fit our budget. She was very nice and easy to work with. What we loved most about Hotel Viking was that we were able to have our ceremony indoors in a charming historical chapel and then being able to just walk on over to the hotel for the rest of the festivities. The food is delicious and high quality (I set my standards pretty high) and the hotel itself is historically beautiful. The hotel rooms are renovated and nicely decorated. I stayed in a suite and it was amazing- great size and layout for having bridal party get hair and make-up done. The king size bed (comfy mattress) was on an upper level with a bathroom and closet and the lower level (down a spiral staircase) had a large living room with desk, coffee table, fridge, and half bath. Flat screen TVs on each level.
The only negative I have is that the hotel is a bit pricey when you add in paying for overnight parking and I had to pay $3/room to have goodie bags dropped off for my overnight guests (they didn't even get to the rooms until after my guests had already checked in). Oh well whatever... not gonna ruin the memories!
We loved our wedding day so much, our guests enjoyed our wedding as well and those that stayed for the whole weekend enjoyed their stay. We love Newport and can’t wait to come back and visit Hotel Viking and reminisce our wedding day! -

We were married in April at the Kay Chapel, with our cocktail hour in the Colonade Room and the reception in the Bellevue Room. The Kay Chapel is a 'hidden gem' in Newport. We loved the beautiful simplicity of Kay Chapel. Given the Chapel has been around since the 1800s, it is in pristine condition! The Colonade and Bellevue were both very nice and functional for our party. The decor of both rooms could stand to be updated, especially since the hotel rooms are beautifully renovated and updated. However, both function rooms are elegant and very functional for a party!
We had the pleasure of working with Linda Ferguson at The Viking. She is experienced and knowledgable - not afraid to provide us suggestions or recommendations as we went through the planning process. She has a calm, relaxed demeanor and good sense of humor. We were so happy we selected The Hotel Viking has our wedding venue! -

The Hotel Viking was the perfect backdrop to our winter wedding. The staff was so accomodating. The whole entire weekend we were there went off without one misstep. I barely had to lift a finger while working with them. Working out the kinks to customize our wedding was only a minor headache, but everything was tailored specifically to us, including getting the cake that came iwth the package changed to pie and ice cream! Working with Linda was such a breeze; she is connected to her e-mail 24/7. The bridal suite was exquisite and there was always dessert on my pillow when I got back! The pirce was more than we had mentally budgetted for, but once we got a taste of what we were getting, it was all very worth it! I have already recommended this venue to several people. -

Our wedding coordinator, Linda Ferguson, was as professional as they come and a delight to work with. The correspondence between us and Linda was extremely easy and responses were quick (at most, a day!). As the big day draws closer for couples, the stressors and anxiety are heightened yet any concerns we may have anticipated were never a concern because of Linda's diligence throughout the entire process. I would highly recommend Linda and Hotel Viking for your special day.
The only criticism we had (reasoning behind not receiving 5 stars in "responsiveness" and "flexibility") is with the room accommodations. It appeared that there were "to many hands in the cookie jar" with respect to hotel room blocks and subsequent questions regarding said blocks. If it wasn't for one astute employee, our wedding suite may have been given to another couple booking a room under our room block. Moreover, check-in was a concern as our ceremony started prior to hotel check in (4pm) and when questioned management was less than reassuring which elevated some stress and anxiety. Understandable as any hotel cannot control guests checking out at the appropriate time but delivery goes a long way; however, in the end it all worked out fine. -

Linda was great! We had a few hiccups (as to be expected - the entire planning process can't be flawless!) and she handled all pop up items from the day we booked until the end of the event with grace and professionalism. We knew from the first site visit that we were in very good and capable hands with her as our Event Manager and we were at ease for the entire planning process of a year and a half. The front desk, and bell staff at this hotel were amazing!!! Our guests absolutely loved the level of service. The Kay Chapel was stunning for our ceremony and we had our reception in the Bellevue Ballroom (upstairs ballroom) The entire event was beautiful, and our vendors all expressed that Hotel Viking is very easy to work with as well! Our families traveled from all over the US to come and celebrate with us so it was very important that they enjoyed themselves at the wedding but were also comfortable staying at the hotel, and we couldn't be happier with our experience! Linda and the staff were great at making us signature cocktails, and tailoring the event to how we wanted everything. The room was everything I pictured and more!!!! We do have 1 thing we would change - and that is that the salads we ordered with the meal were not exactly what we imagined and differed greatly from our salad at the tasting. This was a bit disappointing only because we would have picked a traditional Cesar salad if we had known the execution of the spinach/Gorgonzola salad wouldn't be exactly as we had it at the tasting - but we did not let this ruin our day! It was still good, but not as delicious as the tasting. All in all it was the PERFECT place for our New England wedding!!! -

A rollercoaster ride
First and foremost let me say that our day was beautiful, and the employees (special shout out to Carlington!) who served us that night, as well as the valet staff, were EXCEPTIONAL.
Management, however, is an entirely different story. Our coordinator was switched 3/4 of the way through the process, and while our second coordinator, Linda, was good, she ruffled my husbands feathers more than once throughout the process. She approached both of us, separately, lamenting that there had been complaints of our dog barking in our suite (its a dog friendly hotel). Not only did I immediately go to the room to bring him down to the reception to address it, she felt the need to reiterate to my husband later. It seemed incredibly tone-deaf; they placed us directly outside of the elevator and Top of Newport bar in one of their lowest level suites; of course that much activity, drunk people, and live music right outside the door would stir him up. It was poor planning on their end. In addition, my husband multiple times had to ask her what the point of their conversation was as we were interrupted through the night. She even told me that they don't typically make my favorite drink, but they certainly can, but "just in case I'd like anything else." If you can do it and the bride and groom requested it, why even mention it??
The room block was quite the headache. After finding rooms online for significantly cheaper than what was being offered to our guests, we had to fight tooth and nail to get our guests a fair rate (though in the end, Julie became quite helpful). The general manager, Mark, was completely non-responsive to both calls and emails to the point that I needed to find out the owner's of the hotel to contact them directly (Davidson Hotels, out of Georgia - Erin was very helpful). My husband and I almost took a day out of work to go in person and demand to speak with him.
While at the end of the day, we had a beautiful night, it was solely due to people like Carlington, going above and beyond to make our night easy and wonderful. The service staff there is truly superb, cannot recommend them enough. If you can deal with management long enough to get to the day of, that staff with come through for you tenfold. I can't say enough, it was the best day of our lives; it just could have been much better with more thoughtful management. -

Stephanie Gagliano the Banquet Events Manager was excellent and professional. My issues came when the Hotel recommended a vendor that always seemed to drop the ball. In addition our Honeymoon suite which was also used as the suite for the bridesmaids to get ready in was not put back together and organized like we had previously discussed. It was a mess when we walked in after our wedding reception. In addition, the late evening snack was brought out at 11:15pm, when we had discussed 10:30pm. My guests did not realize there were additional snacks as we were about to dance our last dance. Lastly we had a $75 Swarovski Crystal on our wedding cake instead of a cake topper for a wedding momento, and the Hotel did not return it to us. They think it was thrown out. Granted, this is one of the details I failed to put in the banquet event order, but I would think someone would ask the bride or groom if they would like the crystal. After all it was a huge beautiful crystal on our wedding cake.
All in all, the Hotel Viking is a great place to have your wedding. We loved The Kay Chapel and so did all of our guests. Our guests loved the hotel, especially the resturants and they said the staff were very friendly and helpful, which they were. -

Hotel Viking wedding
The venue is beautiful. I loved the chapel. I was disappointed with the quality of the food for how expensive it was. The food was cold, the salad was awful, queso for late night snacks wasn’t even melted. I’m surprised the hotel didn’t have more information on what to do or where to go. Guests were lost -

The Hotel Viking was everything I was looking for in my venue. It had a very old Newport and antique feel and is an exquisite building. Everything is in one location which makes everything very convienent for you and your guests. It also elimimates any issues that may arise if there is poor weather because everything is indoors. I was very happy with my wedding as a whole and everything came together beautifully. The food was absolutely delicious and I've heard rave reviews from all my guests.
The actual planning process is where I had some issues. I felt as though I needed to keep track of everything for my coordinator because she was consistently asking about things we had already discussed and decided on. She never seemed prepared for our meetings and never seemed to review my folder prior to our meeting so she knew where we last left off. Leading up to the day of the wedding rehearsal I had to respond to emails about rehearsal start times and cocktail hour start times. That is information that had been finalized in the weeks prior.
All in all I was very happy with my wedding. It was everything I pictured it would be and I do recommend this location as a venue for your wedding. However, please be prepared to be very well organized with all your information for your coordinator. -

Dishonest and disappointing
We our locals to Newport for the last 5+ years and wanted to get married in the same city. We booked the viking and planned for a 2 year engagement.
Ill start with the warning ⚠️ the %service fee in your contract if its gone up from your contract to your wedding date they dont keep track and dont pay attention and tell me the forms could not be changed so I had to have them manually fix all of the pricing a minimum of 4 times, each time a new person was involved. Easily they could have charged me more for not being diligent because weddings are expensive and i am sorry if they cant change an excel sheet or pdf in this day and age they need to upgrade to adobe pro and microsoft office.
Also when i signed the contract I was told certain things that would be done- windowsill candles, votives, signage for guests but when it came to wedding day none of that was done. When i sent in my review all they did was tell me i should have had a day of coordinator. Even when they listed these items in “hotel will provide” the day of contract person,Zachary. (Well our 4th one from signing the contract since it doesnt seem like they can keep someone on staff unfortunately.) decided he would not be in attendance for our wedding which he told us at the rehearsal the day before. Our contact person would be the banquet manager, Jose. Jose also had another event at the same time in the other hall so he was not even available for our 3pm wedding since that event went until 5pm. When working with my photographer and MOH he proceeded to yell at them that he wasnt in charge of weddings and it wasnt his job. The front desk also didnt even know a wedding was happening as they sent 5 guests to the wrong event. The valet didnt know it was happening as they charged myself and my guests incorrectly. There were no signs pointing for the wedding as we had seen for other weddings when we visited. We had to have the groomsman with handwritten pieces of paper directing guests. No one from the Viking to be seen until Linda arrived and started printing signs and doing anything possible she could to assist. She was truly the only bright spot
The month leading up to the wedding planning consisted me emailing Zachary for updates with no answers or replies. It would take a minimum of 2 weeks to answer and it would always be that day at 5pm so even if I answered instantly no reply after. He had deadlines for when timelines would be due but he missed every one of them. And i was just left waiting. No apologies were given just that he was busy with the current wedding. He would not read any notes or items we would discuss and I would find myself repeating over and over. Also things we had discussed and agreed like the menu when I would point out things were missing it was now an additional cost. Or fees were not included in the minimum as they had been with other planners, they would honor this “Atypical request” as a 1 time courtesy.
But then my wedding week he couldnt even help or even attend so it was just an excuse to be poor at responding Then obviously Zachary still use whatever discount the hotel gives him to hang out with his family because he didnt even have the decency to avoid for the day or even the few hours while my girls & I were running around.
Wedding day cocktail hour we arrived the space wasnt blocked off so hotel guests were there in the area. There was no assistance for the ADA guests, no coat rack for coats & only 1 bartender. All items that had been discussed with concerns i had. Jose did eventually get a second person for the bar but not until the line was out the door around the corner and i had to tell him we paid for 2 where is the other person. I addressed this with the viking in my event review & Zachary told me there was 2 to which i replied theres about 100+ people who can tell you otherwise & pictures & how would you even know you werent there.
The food was delicious all around best part about the viking was the food. Everyone was thrilled with that.
The banquet buffet there was no one there to host it or help guests or even instruct that both sides were the same.
The only complaint there with the buffet & cake is they cleared everything away so soon. You would go to dance & your cake would be gone. Even mine as the bride.
When i was checking out i cried to the front desk and Christy was so sweet & kind she made a note for the manager to call me and gave my moh his card.
Calls & emails have not been unreturned. -
