We had our wedding on an absolutely stunning early fall day at The Stage and we are so thrilled with Horning’s Hideout!! We got incredibly lucky with this venue. Nancy Horning was prompt, professional, and so helpful. We were able to visit the venue multiple times, which helped us determine our set up and decor. Horning’s is a popular spot and this was helpful for curating the absolute best vendors for our wedding day. It was so important to us to be able to have the freedom to pick our different vendors and Horning’s made this easy. The grounds are kept in impeccable condition, it was easy to guide guests to our specific venue, and the bathrooms were stocked with the necessities all night! Our guests raved about our venue and it’s because Nancy and the rest of the HH staff are clearly dedicated to maintaining their different venue sites so that everyone gets to enjoy the beautiful space. The Stage site itself was spacious but still felt intimate with our 50 person wedding. Really this venue has it all- I wish I could throw my wedding here on repeat because it was such an incredible day. -

I couldn't say enough good things about HH!! From beginning to end, we found the staff easy to work with and helpful with details and logistics of our Friday wedding. We got married down in the grotto at their Creekside venue and it was perfect! We got so many compliments on what a unique/beautiful venue it was and the cherry on top was being able to camp with our family and friends the night before and of the wedding (since we were on a Friday). It was so beautiful that we didn't even need that many decorations which helped with setup/tear-down as well as keeping cost down. Our wedding party brought tents & campers and we got a glamping tent through City Lights Glamping and it was perfect! Only tough part was a place to get ready but us girls just got a airbnb the night before and that allowed the boys to camp/party and have the venue to chill at and get ready at the day of the wedding. All and all, THE DAY AND VENUE WAS PERFECT and I would HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND HORNING'S HIDEOUT TO ANYONE!!!! -

We were very pleased with the experience at Horning's Hideout. From the beginning of the process of looking at venues, we viewed the three venue options they offer and decided to book! Nancy was very responsive throughout the whole process. You get a lot of bang for your buck and the camping option sold it for us! We had such a magical serene day and are so so thankful this is where we got married. -

The most GORGEOUS setting
Bob and Nancy were so helpful. The booking process was so easy. We booked Lakeside and my goodness, it could not have been more perfect. I got to have a dream wedding in a whimsical forest and our photos came out more perfect than I could ever imagine. Bob helped during all the site visits, including the rehearsal, with any questions we had. He also came by to help with the trash during our event. So very kind and considerate. Price includes the arbor and 80 people worth of chairs, tables and linens. A bargain for how gorgeous the place is. They also have additional rental options like extra linens, chairs, tables, string light poles and more. Thank you, thank you! Highly recommend! -

Absolutely stunning. Horning's provided everything the party and guests needed in a wonderfully clean, accessible location. The one changing room/shed is a bit crammed and dusty, but we made it work with a tablecloth to cover the floor. There are so many spaces for incredible photos and exploration :) -

Bob Horning made our wedding so easy and enjoyable! He really understood what was important to us—creating a fun event full of love and with minimal stress. We paid for camping and were pleasantly surprised at how many people wanted to camp! It was wonderful to be able to party late, crash a short walk away, and clean up the next morning. The informational videos on Horning's Hideout really tell you everything you need to know, but Bob was also very responsive. And when our tire blew on the way to tour the venue, he was flexible and accommodating. -

Highly recommend
Bob Horning (the owner) was great. He was communicative, and really helpful with suggestions throughout. He's clearly been doing this a long time, so if you have a question, he'll undoubtedly have the answer. He was there on our wedding day, guided guests, uber drivers, and us! The venue itself was beautiful and clean, the supplies we requested (chairs and tables) were neatly stacked and ready for us upon our arrival, and, of course the price is unbeatable if you're looking for an affordable venue. Highly recommend getting married at the Creekside location at Horning's HIdeout! -

Amazing venue!
Horning's Hideout was absolutely fantastic! The location was gorgeous, the perfect backdrop for an outdoor Oregon wedding. The pictures don't do the place justice! There is plenty of space and we didn't even realize other weddings were going on elsewhere on site. Bob and his team were very helpful and friendly, and always quick to respond to any questions we had. Vendors were also able to get to the space with ease. One note: it will be difficult to get Uber/Lyft out there for pickups, so set up transportation ahead of time. You can leave your car overnight, so we had a party bus pick up everyone, and it worked out great.
We couldn't imagine a better location to get married. -

Bob is very approachable and responsive. He lets you access the venue to measure and plan in detail. There are two things I remember the most when interacting with Bob. First, him not penalizing me for the missing check in the mail. I was able to drop it off in person. Second, when I was getting dressed after setting up the venue, the DJ showed up and forgot to miss their table, and Bob immediately brought an additional table for the DJ all during my absence. Thank you Bob for all your help. -

I started my wedding search on Instagram. I googled "weddingsporland" and this venue popped up. I'll admit, When I originally viewed their website and instagram page, I wasn't too impressed. I thought this was more of a "Concert" venue than wedding. I then went back to instagram and looked at their tagged photos and saw one that inspired us to drive out there.
Approaching the venue, I felt like I was lost and wasn't sure if it was the right area, I felt like I was driving through people's property until I made it to my destination. The Lush smells of the woods hit me the second we got to the venue. The Peacocks were so beautiful and owned this property. When we got there, I was told there are 3 different wedding sites and we toured all three. My husband and I had intimate wedding which was around 80 people. The "Creekside" Venue was absolutely beautiful. We knew the second we went down there that this was the spot we needed to have for our wedding. The creek was beautiful, the pond, the TREES WERE SO BIG AND BEAUTIFUL! Everything was just perfect. There is RV parking, Camping and hotels that are roughly 20 minutes shy of the venue. Food was catered, we did have to purchase something to have an open bar. Bob had every question answered the second it was asked. Exceptional host for this place. This Venue is a literal hidden gem and nothing but compliments came to use about the wedding venue we selected. I suppose if you are a "heavy" partier, this place may not meet your standards due to the check in time the day of to set up (unless wedding is on a friday) and you have to do the clean up the next day. For us, It was the best and accommodated our needs for a spectacular wedding. I'd give 10 stars because of how special our wedding memories are, but unfortunately it only allows 5. -

June Wedding
My husband and I got married here last June and had a wonderful experience. We chose to have our ceremony/reception at the stage location. Best decision ever as we had an unexpected drizzle the day of. The flowers were all in bloom and the grounds were really well maintained. I would say the only downsides were the bridal suit was very cold (especially if you have a lot of exposed skin in your wedding dress) so we wish that was a little warmer, as well as there were some people walking behind the stage past the bridal suit as we were getting ready. Overall maybe a little more division on wedding days would be nice but definitely didn't put a huge damper on the day. Overall, would recommend this location!!! -

Incredible setting, perfect for a laid back campout wedding
We learned about Horning’s Hideout at a bluegrass festival years back and we’re surprised to learn it was also a wedding venue! PERFECT spot if you want to have guests camp overnight. There are 3 wedding locations at the venue, all are beautiful and spread out so you won’t see one another. Bob was super responsive and helpful through the process. As long as the bass was down, we could play music all night! Which we did. :) forest like setting, absolutely gorgeous surroundings. Covered areas too just in case!! It’s affordable, which means everything else is DIY...but if that’s your thing, come check out this venue! We couldn’t have asked for more. -

From the moment we signed the contract to last hour of our event, Bob was there making sure everything was perfect. Horning's Hideout was magical and we could not have asked for a better venue. My daughter wanted the perfect rustic wedding and it was delivered. It was almost magical, the weather was perfect and location was perfect. The wedding was at Creekside all three locations were available but we loved having the ceremony by the creek and then the reception was under the patio and the dining tables were in the grass area. The patio was beautiful all lit up with lights - We were able to dance the night away. We even had our rehearsal dinner at the venue, luckily our caterer was able to cater our dinner - it was lovely eating with our wedding party at the venue. -

Perfect outdoor wedding location
My husband and I had our wedding at the creekside location, and we were so satisfied with every aspect of our special day at Horning's Hideout. It is naturally beautiful and the grounds are well kept. Bob was attentive to all our requests and needs and helped to make sure our rehearsal and wedding day went smoothly. Beautiful wedding without the big price tag
Every venue at Hornings hideout is beautiful and well maintained. Bob the owner is attentive and quick To respond to any questions. This helped planing our reception less stressful and more care free. The venue included chairs, tables and linens. Our party had such a great time, one of our guest decided to get married their this summer :)

Amazing Venue
This place was magical. The place is beautiful and very well kept year round. Leading up our wedding the owners were flexible with our visits to plan our big day. They had great insight on how to get the best use of the property for not only the flow of the wedding but for photos as well. Bob is so helpful and overall an amazing person to talk to. This experience will fallow us for the rest of our lives. We couldn't have had a more perfect wedding anywhere else. My wedding here in summer 2019 was just perfect--we were at the lakeside area and the combination of the wooded background, the spacious lawn area, and the views over the lake meant it was beautiful everywhere you looked. Located close to Portland, the price and location really can't be beat, and the people who work at Horning's are responsive, friendly, caring, and easy to work with. Bob Horning really went above and beyond for us both as the owner of the venue and as our officiant. When our poor photographer dropped her phone in the lake, Bob himself was the one to fish it out for her! We really can't praise Bob and Horning's Hideout enough. Everything from the beginning of the process to clean-up the next day was explained and laid out well to us, and was simple and easy. The peacocks that roam the grounds were fun to spot throughout the day, Bob was available for if we needed anything, and the location was absolutely beautiful. Thank you again so much to Bob! -

There are so many wonderful things I could say about this venue. First off Horning’s Hideout has three beautiful venues within the campground itself. Each venue is very affordable compared to many other venues my husband and I looked at. Bob Horning owns Horning’s Hideout and he is very responsive and has hosted weddings at his campground for years. He gave us many great vendor suggestions. If you buy additional insurance you do not need to hire bartenders and can serve your own alcohol at the venue. Bob is not strict on shutting the wedding down right at 10:00pm like most weddings venues do. He just comes by to make sure you turn off the bass if you are playing music. Also you can camp at your venue! We had lots of family members rent RVs (there are 10 hookups) and bring tents. Bob also supplies tables, chairs and linens for the venues.
My husband and I had our wedding at the “stage area” at Horning’s Hideout and it exceeded my expectations. There was plenty of parking and space for all of my guests. The stage is massive and so beautiful. We had our ceremony and dancing up on the stage that overlooks a manmade lake. There is plenty of tree coverage so that your guests aren’t in the sun the whole time. I 100% recommend this venue to anyone that wants an outdoor wedding!
* only things is ubers and taxis do not come down into the campsite. There is no service but for $5 you can get wifi.Horning's Hideout's reply:

What a great venue
Bob was excellent to work with and the venue was everything we had imagined and more. The website is a bit outdated but I was blown away with how beautiful the venue was in person. Bob runs a tight ship and is helpful in all aspects of wedding planning. We made the leap for a destination wedding and booked Horning’s Hideout Creekside sight unseen, it was a fantastic decision and I have not had a moment of regret. -

We fell in love with Horning's Hideout about four years ago when we slung up some hammocks in the trees and danced away the weekend to bluegrass music at Northwest String Summit. Every time we step foot on those grounds we feel the love and vibrate in the magic. It was very important to us that our friends and family experience this special venue. The owner, Bob Horning, made the entire process seamless, affordable, and so enjoyable. The forest at Horning's is a beauty that is almost indescribable, and we feel incredibly blessed to have our wedding in such an amazing place. -

Bob Horning (owner) is very fast at responding to emails. We loved him so much we had him be the pastor to our wedding. The location is very reasonably priced (I looked at a ton) and none compare to the natural beauty, flexibility, and time you get at your location. I recommend the creekside venue for fantastic pictures.

I got married in June and the rain was huge part of the day, the covered area was perfect for my guests. Bob went above and beyond and even drove me (the bride) in his golf cart so I could be hidden from my guests and not get too wet.
Horning's Hideout is truly magical and a breath of fresh air. A wedding venue that doesn't feel like a wedding factory. 10/10 would recommend! -

We opted for the lakeside venue, and it could not have been more perfect. Bob was super awesome to work with and very flexible. One of the things we loved was having control over what vendors we used for food and alcohol, as well as having the option to add seats closer to the date of the wedding as your guest list becomes clearer. This is definitely the place to get hitched!

Bob was very accommodating as we figured out how many guests would attend and where we wanted to places things. He came during the rehearsal to make sure we had what we needed and came the morning after the wedding came to pick up chairs and such with a smile on his face as music was still playing from the night before. Such an easy and sweet place to get married. If I could change one thing it would have been to have a wireless microphone for speaches but that’s it. Horning’s hideout 10/10!

We had a last minute rain scare, and when I was unable to find a tent to rent from any of the companies in town, Bob took time out of his busy day to pull some strings and get us a tent to cover all of our guests. That's top notch customer service! We enjoyed every aspect of working with this awesome vendor. -

My husband and I had our wedding here last week, and we have no regrets! The Creekside venue is *gorgeous*--for natural beauty, you really can't beat it (especially for how relatively close it is to Portland). Bob was a helpful and responsive presence--he answered all of our questions leading up to the wedding, and he helped with some last-minute moving and other arrangements on the day-of.
We had a couple of miscommunications around what was/wasn't allowed at the venue, but I don't see that as anyone's "fault." For those reserving a venue: if you're not 100% sure whether a specific activity or item is allowed, I'd recommend checking with Bob in advance. Other than that, everything went really smoothly, and all of us had a great time. Overall, I would definitely recommend Horning's Hideout! -

We wanted an outdoor wedding in the woods and this venue not only fit that requirement, but also offered tables, chairs, table clothes, a covered patio for the reception, and a private bathroom building. The venue was clean and beautiful. We were very pleased. Bob is a joy to work with and very knowledgeable. The venue cost more than I wanted but included a lot and was worth it in the end. -

Hornings is reasonably priced, very responsive and pretty accommodating. The grounds are gorgeous. We were married at the Lakeside. The trees, flowers, waterfall and lake were beautiful. All of our guests were in awe of the beauty. Bob was easy to work with and we saved money by being able to bring in our own caterers. We used the building that he says is for changing as our drink bar. It has openings with shutters like windows for serving through and was perfect. Kept the drink line separate from the food line. We had a photo booth and cotton candy set up next to it as well. Some of our family, guests camped as well that night which made our evening after the wedding so special and fun. I highly recommend this place. -

We chose the stage setting for our wedding and it fit our needs perfectly. The are was able to be personalized and decorated to our liking and have plenty of space for all our guests. Bob was always very responsive and supportive, offering suggestions that we never even considered. Our wedding was truly a magical and special time for us and we could not have chosen a more perfect location. It was everything I hoped it would be! Rachel Sent on 09/25/2017Beautiful venue! We were at the Creekside location. The grounds are kept up very well and parking is near by. It's so magical with all the trees and the creek right next to the ceremony space. Exactly what we were looking for!
I would advise renting your own table cloths as the ones they supply are removed at 10pm even if your reception isn't over yet. So just work that into your overall budget. Also, set up is allowed as early as 11am. So make sure you have a lot of helping hands to get that done quickly as 11 is a late set up time.
Other than that- no complaints. It was a wonderful day- beautiful venue! Highly recommend! -

Jennifer Sent on 06/25/2009We searched and searched for outdoor venues for at least a couple months before we came across Horning's Hideout in North Plains, Oregon. The Hornings own some beautiful property located down in their very own canyon. There they have a good size lake, with fishing and paddle boats, camping sites, and a herd of peacocks they care for.
The site has three options for weddings: the stage, lakeside, and creekside. We chose the stage because it was the largest area (we had about 100 guests), and also provided a back-up space on the stage if the weather was inclement. The stage is also along the lake, providing a beautiful backdrop for our photos. All our guests could not stop talking about how beautiful it was out there.
Bob also provides the wedding couple with an arbor, 100 chairs, 12 banquet-style tables, and 12 white tablecloths, included in the cost of renting the venue. He is very lenient when it comes to set-up and tear-down, allowing you to start decorating on your rehearsal day, and taking down the last decorations the day after (as long as there aren't other events scheduled). -

When we first went to hornings it was great! We chose the lakeside area and it was filled with flowers and the grass was very green and the area HAD Wi-Fi and connection. Fast forward to wedding day. The grass (that he specifically said we couldn’t play game on due to grass being ripped up) looking horrible. We went to some of the bushes and the flowers actually look like they’d been cut off. We understand the venue is his place but during the wedding I found it extremely unprofessional to be riding down the hill on a golf cart driving very fast! Fast enough to start kicking up dirt and make the venues air dusty. I found it also annoying that Bob didn’t tell us about the need to purchase Wi-Fi until 5 days before the wedding. Which in the email he said. We should purchase atleast a week in advance…
Bob was nice, the venue was nice. But it wasn’t amazing. We are disappointed and the only thing that made the area beautiful was the decorations we set up ourselves.Horning's Hideout's reply:

The only game that I said could not be played on the grass was corn hole, something I had said from the very start, not sure why you thought you could not play other games, I'm sure it was a miss communication with me talking with other folks setting up your wedding!
You are correct, this has been a terrible year for lawns with all the heat and no rain. Although watering every week and fertilizing, the heat has taken it's toll on the lawn. While not ripped up, there were many dead patches, I'm sorry.
Two things though, one is I was not trying to speed at all, in fact I tried to keep it down because of the dust, and two is we don't control the wifi here, a company does and we are glad it's here for them, and yes, they do charge for it, not us. I did notify you of that during the check list email I sent out to you on August 2nd, just over two weeks before your day, not 5 days. Again, sorry for any miscommunication and thanks again for letting us host you two, you are a beautiful couple!!! -

The grounds themselves are very beautiful but there are a lot of negative things to consider before booking.
First off, Bob (the owner) is only about that money and he will add on a bunch of extra fees to the base price before the wedding. And even after the wedding, I think we left of couple of items behind and he was emailing us early the next day saying we were going to get charged some sort of storage fee if the items weren't removed that day by 12 noon or something.
Second; you would think for all the money you pay to rent the grounds, you could pretty much do what you want with the place (within reason). Not a Horning's Hideout, you can't. Because Bob will be there on your big day in his golf cart to enforce an insanely long list of rules. His presence just felt very invasive on a day that should just be about friends and family. Absolutely do not put any money down until you've read all the paperwork.
As far as more practical matters go... There's nowhere to get dressed. I'm the groom and I had to get dressed under the stage with no cover while standing in inches of mud. One slip, and my suit would have been ruined for the day. There is one tiny room under the stage that my wife used for getting ready but it's really nothing to even speak of and there's no running water in it. Which leads me to...
The bathrooms! The only bathrooms on the site are rustic and and a good 50 yard walk (at least) uphill and away from the site of the ceremony. This is not ideal for anyone trying to do any last-minute primping. And if there is anyone (elderly or otherwise) who might be in a wheelchair; I just don't see this working at all.
The location of the grounds is, in itself, remote. But sometimes that's sort of the point.
And lastly, I know this has nothing to do with anything the hosts can control but do heed my warning. We got married on June 17th and it was an absolute torrential downpour the first half of the day which left the grounds in such a muddy condition that people were slipping and sliding all over the place. I would personally recommend waiting until July to book any outdoor wedding in Oregon so that it's not so much of a crapshoot weather-wise.
To sum it up, put Horning's on your 'maybe' list. But I'd keep looking around.
P.S. Bob, the grounds owner, is the one who contacted me and asked me to write a review... Which obviously I did. And because the review was only mediocre, he contacted both The Knot and Wedding Wire and tried to dispute it! I'm only including this because I want you to truly know who you're dealing with here and just what type of person he is.Horning's Hideout's reply:
Hi Zachary and Jobi,
I am rather shocked by what I consider a bad review, we never get them and sorry that you feel this way, had no idea. I will address all your grievances by simply going down the list:
The only extra fees are when you wanted more than the base package of 80 chairs and 10 tables, and you wanted to add camping, which you did. You added 25 chairs, 2 extra tables, and camping, for a total extra cost of $340. Chairs were $3 each, tables were $20 each, with linens, and group camping was only $225. None of this was hidden, you knew from the very beginning that if you wanted to add things there would be some additional minor costs.
You left a table behind, no issues, and we stored it till someone picked it up. The "storage" fees you mentioned in your review are clean up fees if you did not leave your area clean, you did, so you mistook this totally.
As far as rules, you and other weddings pretty much come in and have your day as you please, just don't tear the place up. Not a lot of rules, so again, don't know where you got this.
As far as driving around in the golf cart you saw me throughout the day as I was checking the garbage, making sure your area stayed clean for you and garbage bins not full, sorry if you thought I was intrusive!!!
And as far as dressing areas, at the stage the "tiny room" is a 10 ft x 14 ft room equipped with power, mirrors, table and chairs, a nice dressing room. The stage area also has a very large shower building, tiled, mirrors inside, that's where the grooms there usually go to change, not sure why you chose to change where you did. Grooms also many times will use the restrooms. The restrooms are not "rustic," they are flush toilets and nicely tiled, not pit toilets.
Zachary, it sounds as if you were not involved much in planning your day, for all this again is a huge surprise and it sounds like that you did not know about certain things, like me simply stopping in to check garbage. It also sounds as if the unprecedented wet early summer we had put a damper on your day, though luckily you had all the coverage that the Stage area has to offer. All the other couples that wet, early summer, knew we were having record rains and knew that the weather is something that you could not control and adjusted and still had a great time, I'm sorry that it seemed to have damped your day.
In fact, here is an email after your wedding where you claimed to have a wonderful time. Also is an email showing where your wife doesn't know what you said here, but that you are having a bad day. I do wish you both all the best! Take care!!

Hi Bob! I’m not sure what Zach wrote you but please ignore it. We’re in the process of moving and our buyers have been really difficult and just down right awful to deal with so he’s just stressed. The only thing that was left behind was one of our tables and my grandma went and picked it up as soon as she found out. We didn’t have anyone camp as it was raining so everyone just went home after the wedding but that was it. I will write my own review so please don’t take Zachs as apart of mine!
