I cannot say enough amazing things about Kate and the Rice Mill. Kate was available at anytime leading up to wedding and was there to make the process as stress free as possible. She allowed us to be honest during our tasting without feeling guilty- which made for the best food that our guests STILL talk about. The Rice Mill offers Good Food Catering as their vender and WOW. The apps, dinner stations, desserts were outstanding and the staff were extremely professional. However, there were some negatives- mainly with the bar staff. We had 2 bartenders for around 130 guests and it was one of the bartender's first night ever bartending. They ran out of cold beer and glasses for drinks with 2 hours left. We had a bourbon bar outside that was only open for an hour. They didn't prep the bar at all with cups or ice and the groom's father had to bartend it for the first 20 minutes. BUT with that being said, we wouldn't have chosen a different venue or catering company!

I cannot express in words how thankful we are for finding Historic Rice Mill and having our wedding there. The day turned out to be absolutely perfect and we were able to have our wedding outside under the beautiful trees and brick background, with the water-front side set up perfectly for photos. We hired Kate as our day of coordinator and I cannot compliment her enough. She was such a pleasure to work with and made our day go completely seamless! I walked into the building with everything set up and was completely awestruck at how it all turned out. Everyone is still raving about how perfect and fun everything was and we completely agree. Highly recommend!!!

We’re eternally grateful for not only the work that Kate did but especially for the way that she and the team there did it. Her communication with us and willingness to do whatever she could to eliminate as much stress as possible was amazing. The venue and Good Food Catering were everything that we had hoped and prayed for in the planning process. When we were searching for a venue for our wedding and we came across Historic Rice Mill, it was exactly what we had envisioned. My husband and I planned to have our wedding in Charleston since it is our favorite place. The Rice Mill gives you all the Charleston feels. On the water, exposed brick, etc. and GREAT FOOD! We hired Tristan as our day of coordinator and she was amazing. She knows the space so well and offered so many great suggestions. She responded to questions I had quickly. When it came to our wedding day she made it go so perfectly! I would not have changed a thing and she made my vision come true. If anything went wrong, we had no idea about it . The food was absolutely amazing. We had so many foodie guests and literally everyone raved about the menu. Everyone we dealt with who was apart of Historic Rice Mill crew was great. I highly recommend this beautiful venue and Tristan for you special occasion!

The Historic Rice Mill was absolutely our dream wedding venue! We used Tristan as our Day-Of coordinator and she made the entire process go so smoothly. From the beginning, she was in contact to help us plan our meals and floor plan and to answer any questions that came up. When I walked in on my wedding day, it felt like walking into my Pinterest board! Everything was exactly as I imagined. All the guests could not stop talking about how beautiful the views were and how good the food was. The bar makes for such a great dance floor setting. Throughout the night, Tristan and the staff were so accommodating and flexible to make sure everything went as planned. I wish we could get married there all over again!

I would definitely recommend this the HRM (and Tristan!) if you're looking for a waterfront venue, there is so much charm in every room and there are incredible harbor views on the patio and through all the windows.

The food was incredible, we couldn’t have asked for anything better. Everyone was raving about it the next day.

We hired Tristan to serve as our day-of coordinator and she absolutely CRUSHED it. She quickly responded to all of our questions and requests, she helped us with vendor recommendations and just general recommendations about the timeline for the wedding day. She was able to make the day go off without a hitch completely stress free for us, if there was a problem, we never knew about it. She did a fabulous job setting up the items that we brought for decorations and made she that we were on track and taken care of throughout the day.

Words cannot explain how happy we are that we chose HRM as our wedding venue!!!! Tristan & Kate literally made everything so stress free for us & we got the wedding of our dreams!!! The food, the views, the space is just perfection & our guests enjoyed everything about it!!!! Can we get married again? Lol!

We had our wedding reception at Rice Mill in July 2019. We worked with Jenna & Eve as the wedding coordinators - it was definitely worth the extra money for the day-of coordinator because they saved my sanity! Both were extremely easy to work with and they responded quickly to my texts/emails/phone calls to answer all of my questions. The venue itself is GORGEOUS and quintessential Charleston. Most of our guests were out of town so they loved getting the Charleston experience. The food was incredible and the whole staff was extremely polite. The bartenders were fast so there was never a long line at the bar.

The Rice Mill is a stunning venue that genuinely captures Charleston's beauty. We couldn't have asked for a better venue. Our guests gave us many compliments. The staff and our main coordinator at the venue, Eve, were incredible from beginning to end. Good Food Catering was delicious. There were many "foodies" at our wedding, so it was a tough crowd to please. Good Food Catering surpassed our already high expectations. Anytime our wedding is brought up, people still rave about the venue and the food. You can't go wrong with this venue!

Even with a 5 year engagement, we knew from the start we wanted to get married at the Historic Rice Mill. The venue alone is stunning with its ornate ceilings and brick walls. The view takes it over the top. It's truly stunning. My coordinator, Eve, was FANTASTIC!!! Everyone kept saying how amazing she was. She took care of us and made sure everything was on track and going smoothly. The food was also amazing. People are still telling us how much they loved the food. I can't say enough good things about the Historic Rice Mill. It was the perfect spot for our wedding and we're so glad we chose it!

A couple of years before getting engaged, my fiancé and I had browsed some Charleston venues to see what we were working with. The Rice Mill had everything we both wanted, an indoor ceremony space for him - which was crazy how few venues here have an indoor space available for ceremonies, as well as beautiful and private outdoor spaces for me. After getting engaged and we started looking at places with pricing it made me so happy that we were able to swing booking the rice mill. We went with a Sunday wedding as it was much more affordable than a Saturday, and we booked the Sunday before Memorial Day since most people are off the next day. We used Jenna, the in-house coordinator and she was phenomenal. At the rice mill you also have to use their in-house catering service, but the food was exceptional and restaurant quality. The day of our wedding was seriously my dream. The building is so beautiful, all of the staff was pleasant and professional. Several people came up to us that night and said it was the best wedding they’d ever been to (we did have open bar so their opinions could have been influenced by that but hey still!!). I wouldn’t change a thing about that day. Not to mention South Carolina had record breaking heat that weekend, so we were sooooooo happy we had a space with AC!!

I loved pretty much everything about the Rice Mill. There are gorgeous views outside of the water which is particularly pretty for a sunset ceremony. The inside is full of historic charm and not a lot of extra decor is needed. They work with a wonderful caterer and have a lot of thing provided in house, so it really is a great deal! Jenna was great to work with!

We are so happy we chose the Historic Rice Mill as our venue! We were specifically looking for a place with outdoor space with historic charm (ideally downtown) and the Rice Mill filled all of those categories. We only had our reception here and we hired Eve as our event coordinator; she handled our menu, all of our rentals, and of course, day-of management. It was nice to work with her since she knew the event space extremely well and could direct us regarding different arrangements, event flow, etc. Our event had full seating for 130 people and food was served at stations. The menu is selected a-la-carte, and we initially had trouble figuring out what would be included in the set-price, but Eve worked us through it and explained that we should pick what we wanted, and then we could adjust based on our budget. As a local bride, Eve let me stop by during set-up for other weddings so that I could see different arrangements which was really helpful for decor ideas. The reception ran perfectly and it absolutely confirmed our choice to have Eve coordinate - there were no issues and she took care of us the entire night! I especially appreciated that she made sure that we ate by getting us dishes from each station! Speaking of food, it was delicious! Prior to the tasting I was worried that the portions wouldn't be large enough but I was very wrong, there was plenty of food and it was amazing - I highly recommend the mac n cheese station and the make-your-own ice cream sandwiches! Crowd favorites! Wish we could do it again!

The Rice Mill is a beautiful, romantic, unique venue that was perfect for our wedding!! We had a sit-down dinner for about 185 people and we used both the indoor and outdoor space! The food was declious as well! I had the pleasure of working with both Jenna and Eve and they were both so kind, super helpful, and extremely knowledgeable! They made the whole planning process really easy! Overall, it was a fantastic venue that helped make our wedding a truly magical day for us!!

We worked with Jenna from the Good Food Catering company when using the historic rice mill as our wedding venue. She was absolutely wonderful and did a great job as a day of coordinator. I would highly recommend Jenna and the historic rice mill for future weddings. She was very accommodating for all of our requests and ensured the wedding ran smoothly and on time. The Historic Rice Mill, Good Food Catering, and our INCREDIBLE day-of coordinator Eve were all perfection from start to finish. The venue is gorgeous, the food delicious, and the service exemplary. We were a bit clueless walking into our wedding planning and Eve was patient, communicative, and accommodating throughout the process. It's a bit of an undersell to call Eve our "day-of coordinator" because she was active and helpful from the day we called about viewing the venue all the way to after the wedding. Her creativity, warmth, and solution-focused attitude helped us create the perfect wedding day and to feel supported throughout the process. This venue is beautiful and incredibly charming - you won't have to do much to it. And the food is to die for. We did buffet and had 100 guests...there was more than enough space for everyone to sit. We embraced the low country cuisine and our guests were in awe of how tasty it all was. All in all, our wedding was such a wonderful experience. Our guests raved about it from start to finish and we were able to enjoy it ourselves. Eve, the Rice Mill, and Good Food Catering made it easy to create a personalized wedding day that left everyone feeling that they had experienced something special. I can't stay enough about how highly we recommend them!

Eve and the staff at Good food Catering helped to make our wedding not only perfect for my husband and I, but an event our guests will remember. As if the building and location weren't fantastic enough, the food is to die for. 100% worth every penny, so glad we went with the Rice Mill as our venue/caterer.

I had my wedding reception at the Rice Mill with Jenna Tito as my coordinator and I could not imagine a better night or more accommodating planner or staff. The food from Good Food catering was a hit and each and every request I had went off phenomenally. Jenna and the staff made all my wedding visions come to life seeming so effortlessly. Jenna went above and beyond with each and every question I had the entire year that I was engaged and planning my reception at the Rice Mill. She coordinated with other vendors, had the greatest connections and recommendations, and even coordinated all of my rentals (lighting, linens, etc.). My favorite part was that Jenna and the staff took the time to surprise my husband and I with a white table cloth dinner set up by ourselves to give us a special time to enjoy each other away from the crowd and have our first meal as husband and wife and this actually allowed us to eat at our reception. All the guests and the wedding party had such a great evening that we even extended the reception. This staff and venue is phenomenal and any event that you could have here, I would highly recommend.

The venue was exquisite, especially to see the total eclipse of the sun on August 21, our wedding date. Jenna was FANTASTIC, we couldn't have had a better experience. She was always responsive, shared good ideas on decor, vendor options and had a calm about her that made me feel confident. I am from Toronto so I relied on her for early deliveries, long distance coordination, and meetings. She understood our vision and helped execute it into reality.
Good Food Catering was excellent, the only dish we didn't love was the fish. The appys, the filet, and the chicken were outstanding! The ambiance was complimented by the eclipse and we had transformed this quaint old historic building into a romantic paradise. The team was also very accommodating; when we moved up the guest arrival time and opened the bar, it was not a problem. When we extended the wedding an hour the night of, it was not a problem. I would highly recommend this venue and team to help make your wedding day one of your best ever memories. Thank you to Jenna and the team for all your help.

The Historic Rice Mill is a magical location for a wedding. We originally booked the venue for our wedding scheduled Sunday 10th of September. However as this was the weekend hurricane Irma had decided to head towards Charleston, we ended up bringing our wedding forward by a day and hosting our welcome party at the HRM instead on the Friday before.

As a destination wedding party we’d only been able to see the venue from the website, and as soon as we did we knew it was the right place for us. Throughout the planning process I communicated with Jenna, the lead sales manager, a lovely person who was very professional and patient in answering all my questions! When we went for our first (and only) visit to the venue for a menu tasting we were blown away! The food alone is so amazing that it would be worth renting the venue! Seeing the venue in person just reaffirmed that we’d made the right choice, it’s such a beautiful space with all the historic architectural details and commanding views over the water.

During the stressful time of reorganizing our wedding in the wake of the hurricane Jenna was a true star. She went above and beyond to help us salvage as much of our wedding as possible, tirelessly communicating and coordinating with our vendors. She was absolutely amazing, calm, professional and supportive throughout the entire process. We ended up having a beautiful welcome party!

The Rice Mill is SO beautiful and Jenna was so great to work with. They can basically do anything you want with food! And the food is so so good. Our guests are still raving about it! They are very flexible with everything and just want to make your dream day come true. I cannot recommend the venue highly enough!

We booked the Historic Rice Mill for our son's rehearsal dinner and welcome party. We hosted 125 guests and every single guest raved about the gorgeous venue, the food, and the attentive service. Jenna (the event coordinator) answered every single question that I had in a timely manner and was incredibly patient and helpful when decisions needed to be made. She advised us wisely in the event set-up and timeline so that our bride and groom could enjoy a relaxed but fun evening with their friends and family. She checked in throughout our event and her staff was amazingly friendly and attentive. The stations she suggested were FANTASTIC and all of our guests enjoyed each and every one. The Oyster Roast on the patio was a hit!!! I rated the value aspect only slightly lower because I think that the venue costs and prices are right in line with other Charleston wedding venues. There is no extra charge however for the beautiful view and sunsets!! And for our particular evening, that was priceless!

Everything about The Historic Rice Mill was perfect!! The location was stunning, the staff was so friendly and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious. Jenna was our wedding coordinator and we couldn't have asked for a more seamless experience. Our wedding was a destination wedding and because of Jenna's expertise and dedication it made the whole event flawless. She was extremely responsive and helpful with each question we had leading up to our big day and made sure everything was perfect day of. She set everything up beautifully, made sure we were fed and drinking (which we now understand how hard that can be) and even suggested switching our timeline up as the night progressed to make everything feel natural and maximize our time on the dance floor! We cannot say enough good things about Jenna and The Historic Rice Mill!

My reception was at the Rice Mill, first word amazing! We wanted the Charleston feel for our guests, as most were out of town guests, they are still raving about the wedding. Jenna is the best! I worked with her from day 1 and she made the planning experience so simple. I truly had no stress or worries going into my wedding weekend! Jenna was also my day of planner, I owe her the world, she was amazing!

The Rice Mill is so beautiful, and it is great for pictures! It is big enough for about 200 people with great space outside. When decorated it is stunning!

This venue is PERFECT! We had a smaller wedding with about 75 guests which ended being the perfect size for the venue. We had our wedding on the outside dock at 3:30 p.m. and the sun was just started to go down towards the end of our ceremony which made for some beautiful lighting. We loved taking our pictures on the docks in front of the Rice Mill! The inside reception space was nice for dancing and eating! Jenna helped answer all of our questions along the way and made the whole process a breeze! Thank you, Historic Rice Mill!!

The Historic Rice Mill and Eve with Good Food Catering did their absolute best to make sure our wedding was everything we wanted it to be. Seriously the BEST food, smooth coordination and flow of our day, and great (fast) communication throughout the planning process. Eve made planning from out of town so easy. She also arranged all of our rentals, gave very straightforward and helpful advice, and even stayed super late after a wedding the night before mine to set everything up for our morning ceremony. Could not recommend Eve and the Rice MIll enough!!

I had a good feeling about the Rice Mill before our venue tours even kicked off, so it felt totally right when they emerged as the obvious frontrunner. We were working with a relatively modest budget and without question Rice Mill had far more to offer in terms of beauty and wow-factor than other venues in the same price range. Jenna and her team were fantastic to work with and all their help and guidance throughout the process was invaluable. The event itself went off without a hitch just a week after Hurricane Matthew. The Rice Mill Staff and Good Food Catering (their in house catering company) took such care to make it a beautiful event. Strongly recommended!

Spectacular venue for rehearsal dinner. Plenty of room to handle 150 people. Eve, our coordinator, along with all of the staff made it a night to remember.

Our wedding was beautiful here!! Not only was the setting beautiful, but the staff from the servers to the bartenders, to our wedding coordinator Jenna were all amazing. The food was fabulous! They made our day wonderful!

My daughter had a 2 year engagement before getting married at this wonderful venue. Never once did I call during that time that I wasn't treated like I was their only client. Great location in the heart of Charleston. Fun venue that is perfect for parties, large or small! It was perfect for our wedding!!

Consider the number of guests and utilize the space wisely. Prepare for inclement weather. Hire a wedding planner and/or coordinator. Do as much as possible as far in advance as possible.

I highly recommend the Historic Rice Mill for your event. Jenna was so easy to work with and she made sure that everything was set up perfectly. Our guests loved the uniqueness of the venue and they all made the comment that the food was amazing!

For our 105 person plated dinner this venue was PERFECT. This was the only venue we toured in Charleston and we immediately fell in love. We wanted a venue with a history and something that felt like traditional Charleston. Eve was very pleasant to work with, was great at corresponding and took our adjustments/changes very well. The food from Good Food Catering (in house catering) is simply amazing and the portion size was wonderful too. Every option we had at our tasting was delicious. They are so great at customizing a menu that is perfect for the bride/groom preferences. We ended up with a split plate crab cake/pecan encrusted chicken. The rustic brick walls, dark wood floors and mahogany bar were beautiful. I was stunned by the beauty of the venue once all our flowers/tables were set up. I couldn't imagine a more perfect venue, better food, and nicer people to work with. I would highly reccomend this to anyone wanting a unique classic venue for their wedding!

Everything was absolutely perfect! The Rice Mill was such a beautiful location and worked closely with me on planning. Eve was wonderful to work with and very quick to respond. The food was very good too. All of our guests mentioned how much they enjoyed everything. We had a larger guest count for the Rice Mill (almost 200) and we had to put several tables outside. I was worried about seating people out there but you couldn't beat that view and people sitting outside actually really liked it. I would absolutely recommend this venue to anyone!

We had our wedding 4/23/16 at the Rice Mill with about 100 guests and we cannot say enough good things about this place! Starting with Eve Gray, she was amazing from day 1 when it came to answering questions, giving me suggestions and helping with my rentals. She was so responsive and professional and we really enjoyed working with her throughout the year. If you are looking for a different venue instead of your typical hotel ballroom, this is perfect! We wanted something different to really "wow" our guests but also something that fit our personalities. The exposed brick and dark mahogany wood throughout the venue gives this place so much character that just adding simple floral arrangements can turn this place into something fabulous. We turned the covered patio into a lounge for guests and had our ceremony outside on the other patio. The one good thing about this venue is that the rain options are great as the indoor marina room is just as beautiful, if not MORE beautiful than the outdoor patio. It definitely makes it less stressful worrying about weather the day of! On to the food...we cannot begin to say how great the food was! We had several passed hors d'oeuvres and guests raved about the she-crab soup shots and asian beef skewers. Our sit down dinner was fantastic too! Truffle potato soup is a must!! The wait staff and bartenders were awesome and provided great service. We could not have been happier with every aspect of the venue. The responsiveness throughout the year, to handling our rentals, setting up, food and service the day of, was top notch! Several guests commented that it was the most beautiful wedding venue they have ever been too. With a sunset on the water to complete a perfect day how could it not be?!

We just had our ceremony and reception at the Historic Rice Mill, and it was absolutely perfect! Eve is the BEST! She was super flexible and offered great suggestions. She ordered all of our rentals for us so we didn't have to worry about it. And the food...oh my goodness...everyone keeps talking about how great it was, and they are correct! The mac n' cheese bar was to die for! My husband really liked the fact that he could choose some craft beers to have at the bar, so it wasn't just your typical beverages. The layout is wonderful. The building has so much character, so you don't have to spend a ton on decorating...it's already beautiful! I would recommend the Historic Rice Mill and Good Food Catering over and over again!

Absolutely the best place for weddings. I worked with Eve Grey and she was great to work with throughout the entire planning process. Our tasting was my absolute favorite thing when planning our wedding at the Rice Mill. Food is fabulous. Guests are continuing to tell me how much they love the food. I cannot wait to see our pictures of this lovely wedding venue.

The Rice Mill was the perfect venue for us, complete with a rustic look (exposed brick and tin ceilings) and a view of the marina, which made for the best sunset photos. Because the venue is so pretty, we didn't have to spend as much on decorations. Also, Eve was so helpful and patient with us through countless emails and phone calls to select food and set up a floor plan. Food must be catered through the venue, which made me nervous at first to limit our options, but it turned out to be really helpful to work through one vendor. (They also handled the chair and linen rentals for us too.) We heard so many compliments on the food and the crepes were so good that we skipped a cake and served a few flavors of crepes for dessert instead.
Overall, if this venue is in your price range, I would highly recommend it for it's beauty and the ease of working with their staff. The only downfall is that you can't safely walk from the venue to any of the hotels that are nearby so we hired shuttles for our guests.

Where do I begin?! We could not have picked a better venue for our wedding! Jenna is amazing and so easy to work with! She makes the process so smooth and stress free and all of the staff is amazing as well! The venue is beautiful and everyone kept commenting on how they love the layout with both outside and inside areas. The food is also amazing and got many compliments! HIGHLY recommend!!!

To anyone having a destination wedding in Charleston, this is the place for you! We had our ceremony and reception at the Rice Mill which made it easy for our guests. We worked with Eve and she was fantastic! She made everything so easy, from her flexibility to add things we had wanted to her quick responses to our many questions. The food is delicious and our guests raved about it. The staff was very nice and went out of their way to make sure everyone was happy. The staff made sure the wedding party got hors d'oeuvres and drinks when we were taking pictures after the ceremony. We highly recommend the Rice Mill to anyone having a wedding in Charleston!

We held our ceremony and reception at the Rice Mill in October. After looking at several venues in the Charleston area I am so glad we chose this location. We had the ceremony outside on the waterfront patio and moved over to the covered patio for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. We loved having everything in one location so no one had to drive anywhere since we had a lot of out of town guests. We used Good Food Catering and the food was outstanding! In the time since our wedding I have been told by everyone how wonderful the food was. They have raved about the Fried Turkey and gravy! The staff was all fantastic and made the evening perfect. I highly recommend the Rice Mill and Good Food Catering.

Jenna and her crew at the rice mill are absolutely fabulous! She was so quick to respond to me and help me with anything that I needed. We were constantly dropping by and asking questions and they were always so supportive and offering suggestions. The food, staff, and the venue are incredible. Our night couldn't have been more perfect or beautiful.

Destination Weddings are a little scary BUT not if you deal with Jenna at the Rice Mill. We only did the reception here. My daughter was the direct contact and relied on all Jenna's suggestions and advice. There was not one complaint to be had it was just wonderful. The venue is "Charleston" at its finest with a view and a half. All went so smoothly. The value was amazing we had 70 guests, 4 hours open bar, combined farmers market, appetizers, meal, sweets, late night snacks......... THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Jenna was a pleasure to work with while planning our reception at The Rice Mill! As someone who has never planned a big event, she was incredibly helpful, patient, and professional. In my opinion, the venue is tough to beat and was perfect for our 135 guest reception!

We had an amazing wedding reception at the Historic Rice Mill! Eve and her staff were friendly and professional and always answered our emails and phone calls in a timely manner. The food was absolutely amazing - guests are still talking about it! The Rice Mill is close to downtown and provides amazing sunset photo opportunities for an afternoon/evening reception. Would definitely book this venue again!

We got married at the Historic Rice Mill in February 2015. My now husband is a Chef and I am a Catering Manager so we had nothing but the highest expectations for our wedding day. Everything was perfect. We worked with Jenna who was so helpful, quick to respond to questions, flexible and accommodating. The food and service were outstanding and our guests raved about everything which means even more to us as many of them are chefs and in the food and beverage industry. I could not be happier with the entire process and outcome! If only it had not been so abnormally cold outside!!

Excellent food, great venue. The catering service had a large choice of food, imaginative parings, good bar service as well.

Perfect venue for a reception of 100-150 people. The atmosphere was relaxed, the layout is comfortable, building has a classic look that needs little additional decoration (money saver!), and there is a beautiful marina view (great sunset pics!). The event staff was amazing and management was flexible and made the event easy to plan. The menu selection can't be beat! I had the wedding of my dreams and the Rice Mill in large to thank for it.

This venue was so beautiful and versatile! I initially wanted a beach wedding but then saw this place along the water, with the exposed brick and pretty tin ceilings and changed my vision for it. It also basically has a built in back-up plan in case of rain (there is a covered patio in addition to an uncovered patio), which we almost had to rely on for my wedding.

I worked mainly with Jenna. She was so nice and professional. I felt like I sent way too many emails about changing the menu and bar service... each time she would have to draft a different proposal with the changed costs... but I never felt like she was annoyed or anything.

We chose the Gourmet Mac and Cheese bar and it was a HIT. Everyone raved about it at our wedding. My father also said their pecan crusted chicken was the best chicken he had in his life. A groomsmen said it was so crispy yet juicy inside. (I don't eat meat so I'm relying on their comments for that!).

The staff was fantastic. They brought me and my bridesmaids a fruit and cheese platter while waiting for the ceremony to start and they heard me make a comment that I was afraid guests might be able to see me before the ceremony and brought over several folding screens which made me feel way better. They also brought me and my husband(!) hors d'oeuvres while taking pictures outside, and food to our table so we didn't have to get up. I feel like they went above and beyond to make us comfortable.

I also feel like everything was super reasonably priced compare to everywhere else I looked at, especially for the bar prices. My only negative was that I got charged a $250 cleaning fee for a guest who threw up in the bathroom. A friend of ours who worked as a hotel event manager said he thought that was pretty steep - so keep an eye on your friends!

Overall, if I could go back and do everything over I would still choose the Rice Mill.

Jenna DeSavino and her team at the Rice Mill were amazing to work with throughout my entire wedding. She was warm, friendly and always responded in a timely manner anytime I had questions. They were incredibly flexible on the day of as we had to have multiple backup plans in case of rain. The day turned out beautiful and so did our wedding. Her staff was extremely attentive to all of our guests, not just me and my husband. Everyone raved about the food, the venue, but also the incredibly hospitable staff. I would highly recommend this venue for weddings, rehearsal dinners or any party for that matter. We couldn't have asked for a better wedding day!

Such a beautiful venue and Jenna was great at making everything run very smoothly. The food was beyond amazing. Everyone I spoke to was obsessed with the Mac n Cheese...OBSESSED! This place and the people there helped make our day absolutely perfect. Couldn't have been happier with our venue and the food...PERFECT!

Jenna was wonderful in making our wedding day absolutely perfect! In the months leading up the event, she was extremely responsive to all my emails and questions, and made very helpful suggestions. She and the entire staff are very experienced, and were happy to accommodate requests. The venue was fantastic - we did both the ceremony and reception at the site so our guests wouldn't have to travel. Due to a last minute change, we had to move the ceremony to the outdoor deck under the awning and the staff handled it beautifully. The food was great, too! We highly recommend the grilled salmon station - it was a favorite with our guests. Another thing I really liked is she handled all our vendor orders for us, and was very familiar with what would work in the space and what wouldn't. I would highly recommend Jenna and Good Food Catering's services to any bride!

The Rice Mill and Good Food Catering were AMAZING to work with! All the guests at my wedding commented on how friendly and helpful the staff and bartenders were and I had a great experience working with Jenna to coordinate the event! As soon as we stepped off the trolley we were literally chased down by two servers with drinks and appetizers. Hands down the best service of any wedding I've been to. :)

We just had our destination wedding at the Historic Rice Mill last weekend and it was beautiful & fun! The venue is gorgeous with exposed brick, a huge dark wooden bar, and white tin ceiling. It was an overcast rainy day so we had our ceremony under the covered deck side which was able to fit our 105 guests in a cozy way. We then did pictures on the covered deck as well. So I was relieved I went with a venue that was rain-proof vs some of the other venues I had looked at. The food by Good Food Catering was also delicious and our guests raved about it.
We couldn't have been happier with how things turned out.

The Historic Rice Mill was the PERFECT place for my daughter’s wedding reception. Jenna was wonderful to work with and very patient with all the little nuances and difficulties of this particular wedding. She was always very positive and helpful. Good Food Catering’s food quality was up to its usual high standards and its presentation perfect. The staff was professional, even the young lady who was inundated with guests at the very popular Oyster Shooter bar. The Rice Mill itself is that perfect backdrop for a romantic Charleston event. The water front view and patio made for some fabulous sunset pictures!! Add in the fabulous décor and flowers from Branch Design Studio, the great music of Permanent Vacation and the wedding coordination talent of Amanda Lewis and it was really a magical night for the bride and groom. The Rice Mill and Good Food Catering were an excellent choice for our 100 guest wedding in August for waterfront Charleston. The location was perfect for what we wanted with the old, classic interior, BIG bar and dance floor and a porch/deck overhanging the water/overlooking the boats and docks out back. Jenna and her staff were perfect.

The Historic Rice Mill was the perfect venue for our wedding. We wanted a location to have the ceremony and the reception. Not only did the Rice Mill accommodate those needs, but we were able to have the ceremony outside overlooking the water and they took care of all of the catering needs. The food was excellent and the staff was very professional. The Rice Mill provided the majority of the tables and chairs. Any other rental needs were taken care of by Jennifer at the Rice Mill. She was amazing. She knew who to contact and always provided multiple options. She made it very easy to stay on budget. We are not from the Charleston area, but because of Jennifer we were able to pull off the perfect wedding for us without the need to hire a coordinator.

We had a destination wedding in Charleston, and picked all of our vendors without actually meeting any of them in person. I definitely was not disappointed in Good food catering. Our wedding at the historic rice mill was amazing! It was even more beautiful in person than in the pictures. The food was outstanding and the service was superb! We worked with Jennifer Payne and she was an excellent coordinator. She responded very quickly to all of my emails and was really helpful since I was doing the planning from out of town. Everything ran very smoothly on our wedding day and our guests had a wonderful time!

We worked with Jennifer Payne of Good Food Catering. She is WONDERFUL - THE BEST! She is not only professional but accommodating and flexible with any changes. Her suggestions and guidance are always "spot on"! We so appreciated her "can do" attitude and spirit. She listened closely to our every wish and desire, understanding our "attention to detail" plan for the Reception. We wanted to use every part of the Historic Rice Mill - not only the beautiful interiors but all the outside areas. The 40 ft mahogany bar is simply elegant, easily decorated - bartenders exceptional! We used the credenzas in the room for pictures or displays making the room feel like part of our home. Also nice is the Rice Mill has tables and chairs for use so you don't have to rent them. The room overlooking the dockway and marina can be used for the cake table or for guest tables or seating with sofas like we did - another "feels like home" touch everyone enjoyed. The covered porch is especially nice draped with fabric - another gathering area for guests with cocktail tables or to place chairs and ottomans for seating. The dockway leading to the uncovered patio is perfect for chairs to watch the sunset, as we did. The uncovered patio we lit with overhead string lighting and used as a satellite bar area with teak and brass cocktail tables from the Rice Mill - perfect place for a photo booth, too. The entrance to the Rice Mill is even more inviting with lanterns in the oak trees! This venue made for a magical evening! The food was exceptional and constantly kept pace with our guests' appetites! We still receive notes and calls about the food and venue. We had a variety of some of the best food in Charleston – crab cakes, Mac N Cheese station, Pork Loin - not only did it taste fantastic, but was displayed beautifully! In summary, Jennifer Payne of the Historic Rice Mill and Good Food Catering helped make this "the wedding of our daughter's dreams"! We could not have been more pleased!

My experience with The Historic Rice Mill Building was stellar. I was very impressed with the layout of the space, it was wonderful for entertaining. The food was spot on and exactly what we had envisioned. I have to mention, Jennifer Payne a fairly new addition to the facility, but the reason that my experience was 5 stars. She is their coordinator, runs the events and knows her stuff. She was extremely professional, such a breath of fresh air and delivered. I would recommend this venue to anyone that it looking for a true Charleston wedding; it is affordable, not to mention very elegant.

We hosted our son's Rehearsal dinner at the Historic Rice Mill. Jennifer Payne was our event coordinator and was absolutely fabulous! Our event went so smooth and Jennifer was able to meet with us to answer questions any time we needed her. She also helped with the menu and made suggestions for substitutions. We went with the low country menu and added a chef attended shrimp and grits station. We did a pre -tasting , which was a very nice option, and changed one of our server passed trays in which Jennifer helped us choose another.

I cannot say enough about the quality of service we had including all of the suggestions from our event planner. The food was raved about from each and every guest, which I knew would be excellent because of Good Food Catering! Exclusive to this venue and represents Rue De Jean, Virginia's on King,and Coast Bar and Grill in the heart of Charleston,SC.

Where to begin… Oh my gosh, They were so helpful, kind, and courteous. Not to mention the venue itself was breathtaking. Right on the Charleston City Marina. with spectacular views of the Ashley River. We had mostly out of town guests so I wanted to have a venue that real said CHARLESTON. Well, I couldn't have found a better place than if I built it myself. It's the actual facade of one the three antebellum rice mills that still stand. It also is rumored to have been A Navy minesweeper base. Of course the interior has been seen many different changes from restaurants to office suites, but the exterior remains very close to its natural state. If I had to do it Over I would pick the Rice Mill ever time!!!

I cannot say enough about how wonderful Good Food Catering/The Rice Mill is. Emily Weidle is their main contact person, and she was so easy to get in touch with, very flexible, and incredibly helpful with details and recommendations. Even though she wasn't my coordinator, she helped contact my vendors to make sure all the logistics worked. My fiance was unsure about the place, and she let me visit several times until I could convince him it was the right location! There was also a dish I wanted that wasn't on their menu and they re-created it perfectly! We got so many compliments on the food and the building. They were really the best part of making our wedding awesome!!

This venue is absolutely perfect for anyone wanting a downtown wedding near the water. Absolutely beautiful location! Emily was fantastic to work with and made planning fun and easy. It was so nice to have someone to take care of meeting vendors the day of.

The food at our wedding reception was absolutely phenomenal! Our guests have continued to rave about the food since the wedding! The quality and presentation was just perfect and the staff was extremely conscientious and accomodating. Lots of menu choices as well. Would definitely recommend to other brides, definitely worth the money!

I visited many venues before deciding on the Rice Mill Building, I absolutely fell in love with the building the minute we walked in. Emily at GFC was amazing to work with, she was full of great ideas and helpful advice, tailored the menu to our preferences, and coordinated the day flawlessly. She even helped me work through the few un-forseen details on the day of. The food portions were huge, and guests were raving about the location and the food. I had read several reviews saying the building can get hot, but for my April wedding the temperatures were perfect. I just cant say enough nice things about GFC and the Rice Mill building!

The ladies at the Rice Mill & Good Food Catering were nothing but professional, skilled and all around great. From the very beginning, they were only interested in our well being and our wedding being fabulous. Of course things went wrong, but they handled everything professionally and always had our best interest in mind. The coordinator the day of the wedding was amazing, and everything went smoothly. Our May 2010 wedding at the HIstoric Rice Mill was perfect! Since my husband and I met in culinary school the food was a huge part of our wedding...and we knew our guests were expecting big things. Our guests are still talking about "the best wedding food ever." We appreciated being able to meet and taste may menu items and then customize each dish for our event. I could not be more pleased!

This is a great place for a reception. Lots of room, the chance to taste the menu and meet vendors and see the variety of choices available if not using any outside vendors. Choice of rooms for reception depending on size of group. Nice setting, nice rooms, friendly staff, good price for wedding block of rooms. I am so thankful that I chose them for our location. They continuously put my mind at ease & helped give me the wedding I had always dreamt of!

My husband and I were married at the Rice Mill Building in 2006. I am a professional wedding planner who was living in Atlanta, GA at the time that we were married. We looked at several sites, and interviewed many catering companies. This was the only one that fit our (very picky) criteria. We were elated with how professional everyone was, and how well they handled our event. The most important aspect of our wedding was definately the food, and GFC rocked it out! Three years later we still have guests reminding us of how amazing our reception dinner was.

We were looking for a reception site that would share some Charleston charm with our mostly out-of-town guests. We toured 7 venues before selecting the Historic Rice Mill for our reception (and Good Food Catering), and we definitely made the right decision. Throughout the entire planning process, the staff there was extremely helpful and responsive, especially once I started working with Jennifer. She coordinated the tasting and all of my other visits, took care of all of the rentals, and went above and beyond on the wedding night by setting up our favors, centerpiece candles, etc. (she basically saved me from having to hire an outside wedding planner!!). The indoor/outdoor space of the Rice Mill is perfect for a wedding, and the view is unbeatable. Our guests RAVED about the food--especially the mac and cheese bar, it's a MUST! The only drawback with the Rice Mill is that you have to use Good Food--so no negotiating on any catering costs. But Jennifer was super helpful with making sure I made the most of my food/drink budget. I couldn't be happier with our experience with the Rice Mill and Good Food!

Of all of the locations we looked at in Charleston for our destination wedding, we never thought we would have chosen the Rice Mill building, but the space just blew us away and the folks from Good Food Catering were the best around. The space give you so much flexibility to have indoor and outdoor parts of the day and gives a bride like myself some ease to know that if the weather were to turn bad, everything could be shifted to the indoor space. Our ceremony was outside and I could not have asked for a better space or a better day. All of our guests raved about the look and feel of the building and how you could never find anywhere so unique in Boston (where we are from). Our guests also LOVED the food, almost as much as we did. From our apps (lobster mac and cheese, duck, and buffalo shrimp skewers), to our dinner selections (short ribs, pork loin, and pasta) and late night snacks (french fries), everything was delicious! Special thanks to Catherine and the staff for our wedding, they were all so GREAT and took care of everything!

I absolutely loved our reception at the Rice Mill Building. The view of the harbor is breathtaking at night and yields beautiful pictures. The long bar inside means that people don't have to wait for drinks. Emily and the other ladies are extremely responsive and helpful - ready to help in any way they can to make your day the best ever. Only downside is the dance floor/bar area gets very hot if people are moving and shaking.

the Rice Mill was the perfect venue for us because it was downtown AND on the water, which were two things that were important to us. We also loved the historic feel of the building and it fit our vision for a more dramatic, moody color palette. The team at the Rice Mill was excellent. They responded quickly to emails (often within just a few hours) and always went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. They were flexible with what food options we could put on the buffet, which we really appreciated, and the food was a huge hit! They also allowed us to choose local beers from Charleston to serve instead of the usual domestic options, which made it more personal. they accommodated my request to have all my guests in the main room for dinner, rather than spread out, even though it meant being creative with where the buffet would go. The night of the event, multiple guests came up to me with compliments for the bartenders and said how nice the staff was. Overall, we were very pleased and had a beautiful wedding. Would recommend this venue for sure!

We went to visit the HRM on a scouting trip to Charleston for our destination wedding. With an off season wedding, it was by far the most affordable venue but wasn't my favorite online as it was difficult to get my head around their layout. As soon as we got there and we walked in to see the harbor through EVERY window in the venue, we fell in love. After we met with Eve and toured it, we were sold. We hired Eve to serve as our day-of coordinator and she absolutely KILLED it. I have a big family that can need a lot of direction and she did it effortlessly. She responded to all of my questions promptly and helped us manage our budget so we could spend in areas that were most important to us and save in other spots. Eve showed up with our favorite drinks and apps as soon as the ceremony ended- she put our needs first all day, which is exactly what you want on your special day. The Southern hospitality was REAL here! All of our pictures off of the docks and in front of the building were beautiful. You do need a professional day of coordinator to book here. I loved that they let us use actual candles (with covers) through out. I would advise using all of their recommendations for vendors- they really know what they're doing! I did deviate to work with some vendors I liked and they did a great job communicating with them. We got into town a few days early and were able to drop off our decorations early (we didn't have many, we mostly did flowers). We took advantage of their Friday/Sunday discount and the off season discounts in July that some venues offer. We did the ceremony outside at 7 pm- it was hot but not unbearable and there was nice breeze off the water. The AC was super helpful inside for the rest of the party! I would definitely recommend this venue (and Eve!) if you're looking for a beautiful waterfront venue that has all the charm and hospitality you would want from a southern venue.

The Historic Rice Mill was an amazing backdrop for our day. It was the perfect mix of new and old, inside and outside. Jenna and team were responsive, easy to work with, and very helpful! Their on-site caterer provided amazing food that we chose from a huge selection. Some of the rentals were included in the rental fee (like tables, high-tops, dishes, silverware, glasses, etc), which was helpful while budgeting. The bar was super cool and provides the perfect backdrop for an awesome party! We loved how there were various places for our guests to hang out...they could go outside if they get hot from too much dancing, there's a lounge area for hanging out and a beautiful dining space. We did ceremony and reception at Rice Mill and couldn't be happier with our decision!

We had our wedding reception on May 4th at the Rice Mill and could not have been more pleased with the service, food, location and set up. From day one when we were first looking at the venue we were blown away by their professionalism and personalized care. Jennifer is wonderful to work with and accommodated all our needs. The whole night went seamlessly and the service was impeccable. Not to mention the food! We still have guests telling us that they have never had such tasty food at a wedding - it was all cooked to perfection. Could not have asked for a better venue to host our big day.

As a destination bride, I didn't even get to SEE the venue until after it had already been booked! The pictures just don't do it justice. It's a BEAUTIFUL space! Exposed brick, natural light and right on the water--very romantic setting! This is not a cheap venue, but it also doesn't need much decoration to look fabulous. It also looks fantastic in photographs! We had both the ceremony and reception there.

As for the food? WOW. Everyone was raving about how delicious the filet was! Even some of my more picky relatives cleaned their plates! You definitely get a lot of food--the portions were huge! I'm a vegetarian, and Good Food Catering had a lot of non-meat options and were willing to customize the food to meet my dietary needs.

As a college-level Lecturer in Communication, "effective communication" was a #1 priority in selecting wedding vendors. Emily at Good Food Catering was prompt, patient and professional, and she went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with our menu and venue specifics. She even recommended a wedding coordinator (Megan at Mingle) and DJ (Easy Breezy Entertainment) to me! She was a pleasure to work with and was incredibly helpful! On the day of the wedding, the waitstaff and bartenders were super polite and very respectful.

The food was amazing at our May 2010 wedding. All our guests commented on how wonderful the food was. The catering managers, servers and bartenders were attentive and fun. Everything we could need was thought of and addressed. The only thing I wish I would have realized before the date was how hot the building would get. It makes sense being a historic building without insulation I just hadn't planned for it. The staff was more than accommodating and kept making sure the AC vents were pumping all night to try and cool it down.
