Devon Sent on 05/31/2013I was 100% happy with my wedding cake. Ordering the cake was easy - I stopped in the Tarzana location on my lunch break and Jack had my cake ordered in about 20 min. They had great samples and options which made it easy to choose. The cake was beautiful and tasty. Jack was very helpful and insisted I take a bunch of samples home for my fiance.
Hansen's was one of 2 cake vendors included in my venue package. I see other reviewers experienced issues due to this, but I did not. I told Jack my venue and he handed me the book to pick a design. I picked the design, which was beautiful. I told him we would have 175-200 guests as the wedding was a month out. He showed me the size he would make for that guest count, which was huge. He told me to call him if I ended up closer to 200 and he would gladly make me a bigger cake. I did have 200 guests but i didnt bother calling for a bigger cake because not everyone eats cake and we had a ton of food and a choc fountain as well. He also took extra time to explain to me how I could correctly wrap and freeze the top tier so it would taste as fresh as the wedding day.
He never tried to upsell me, which actually surprised me because the other "included" vendor with my location did. It was great to have one vendor I didnt have to pay or discuss price with :). I got my perfect cake as part of the package with my venue. Many of my guests commented that it was the best cake ever - especially the carrot cake tier and the marble with choc chip filling. -

Ana M. Sent on 12/09/2008Hansen's Bakery provided a beautiful cake for our reception! We had 3 layers of different flavors/fillings, but our favorite was the red velvet with cream cheese filling. The other layers were good, but not exceptional - but the red velvet was definitely noteworthy. Our experience with our cake-tasting was underwhelming; it was obvious they do this all the time, but just didn't wow me. Our cake was included in our package with City Club on Bunker Hill, but for a "package" cake we had a wide selection with lots of options so I thought it was a great value! -

Morgan Sent on 03/27/2012We LOVED the cake we finally got--- absolutely wonderful-- but we had some problems with the ordering process. Hansen's was the preferred bakery of our reception venue, and a cake came with our package.
I definitely felt like a second class customer when I walked into Hansen's and told them I had a package with my venue for a cake. The woman helping us escorted us to a corner of the bakery, pointed out a few cakes we could choose from that were included in our package, and quickly ditched us. When I flagged her down and asked about other designs (I offered to pay to upgrade the cake to a design I really liked) she quickly dismissed me. I ended up picking one of the original designs included in the package.
Fast forward to two days before the wedding, I got a call from the bakery telling me that they had lost the color swatches I had given them for the cake, and that I needed to tell them what they should do about it. I didn't have time in my schedule to drive thru LA traffic on a Friday to the bakery, so I ended up telling them to simplify my color scheme (my custom colors were out the window). They weren't apologetic-- they just blamed the woman who took my order and said she was no longer with the bakery.
Like I said, the cake turned out beautiful and it was absolutely delicious cake. I'd order from them again. But I really wish the service had been better. -

Caitlyn Sent on 06/24/2009Cake (taste/quality) was good, but the colors didn't turn out as I wanted. If you're more specific you can likely get what you want.
