We cannot say enough amazing things about Shawn!! From the moment we met him, my husband and I knew this would be an awesome partnership. Shawn was so kind and quick to accept our music requests. We wanted to start out with family friendly “classic” wedding music and then transition into true club music with lots of fading between songs. We were blown away with how he completely understood the assignment!! He really has a passion for music and DJing and we were lucky to have him at our rave in the woods.
We had a fairly spread out venue with our ceremony, cocktail, dinner, and dance floor all in different places. I was really concerned with how Shawn would navigate this but he was so professional and easy and ended up setting up his equipment in two different spots!! It was perfect and really was such a relief.
Not only was Shawn professional and talented, but he was also such a fun guy to have around!! Our guests absolutely loved him. They’re all still talking about “Sexy Shawn: dopest DJ in the PNW”
Our wedding reception was awesome and we really owe it to Shawn for giving 110% effort and throwing us a damn good party at an incredibly reasonable rate.

We had an amazing experience with Groove on Hyde Street! We had DJ Shawn as our wedding DJ and he did a wonderful job - no complaints at all. All songs for our ceremony & dances went smoothly and he cut the songs that needed cutting exactly as we asked. They used an app that made the process SO smooth and also helped us to understand just how many songs you need to consider for all parts of a wedding, which was helpful as we had no clue lol. We had a call the week before our wedding as a sort of vibe check, and he definitely matched the vibe on the big day. We had a blast on the dance floor and that’s all we could ask for! We also used their photo booth & uplight services which was a huge hit - highly recommend that as an add on. Darius manned/assisted with the photo booth to ensure it was running smoothly throughout the night and that people were having fun with the props. Everyone loved the photo booth and the uplights made a bigger difference in the venue than I could have imagined. We also got all the photo booth pics sent to us digitally afterwards (in addition to the prints that everyone got), which was awesome. Definitely recommend booking Groove on Hyde Street if you’re looking for a wedding or event DJ! -

Darius and his team are punctual, organized, and completely self-sufficient! They set up seamlessly, managed transitions perfectly, and knew exactly how to orient their equipment for smooth event flow. His setup looks sharp, the sound quality is fantastic, and his professionalism stands out.

Artem was our DJ/sound guy and he did a phenomenal job. He was very profesional, on time, easy to reach and very easy to work with! He fulfilled everything we asked of him for our music on our wedding day and we couldn’t be more happy with our choice of hiring him. Artem also provided us with a photo booth that we wanted and both me, my husband and my guests loved it! It was such a fun touch to our wedding and we have absolutely no regrets! We were incredibly lucky to have David from Groove on Hyde Street as our DJ for our wedding on August 23, 2025. Not only is David an amazing DJ, but he's also an amazing person.
Here’s a bit of backstory: we had originally booked a different DJ, who backed out about two months before our wedding due to moving out of state. He promised us a replacement — and that’s when David entered the picture. Just a few days later, we found out that the original DJ had filed for bankruptcy and taken off with our money. At that point, David could have walked away too — and honestly, no one would have blamed him.
But he didn’t.
David is a man of integrity and his word. He honored the agreement, showed up on our wedding day, made sure the music was perfect for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception and absolutely crushed it. The vibe was perfect, the music was exactly what we wanted, and everyone — including the kids — had an amazing time. He brought great energy and made the night unforgettable.
If you're looking for a DJ who is professional, reliable, and genuinely cares about your event, David is your guy. We can’t thank him enough and would highly, highly recommend him for any occasion!

Dwayne was our DJ/emcee for our wedding banquet out in the Bay Area, CA. He responded promptly to messages and requests for phone meetings leading up to our big day. Dwayne also mentioned scouting our venue, prior to our wedding day, to ensure there would be no issues with his equipment. On the day of our banquet, Dwayne was professional and on schedule with announcements, and played music requested with good song transitions. We also received good feedback from our guests. DJ Artem and Blake DJed and brought the photo booth for my daughter's birthday. It was the best investment for my party. Everyone used the photo booth several times and everyone told me how cool it was to have a skilled DJ playing music! Oh yeah they also brought the bubble machine which was huge distraction for the young kids (in a good way LOL)

Great DJ!!!
We are a DJ company named Puget Sounds and Darius assisted us at a wedding this past weekend. Our Bride and Groom requested more uplighting than what we have, so Darius brought uplighting and set them up. The Bride and Groom were also event planners, so their expectations were high. They loved the uplighting and also the new addition to our DJ booth (the white facade with uplighting). I can’t say enough about how organized, professional, and enthusiastic Darius is as a DJ. Works great with planners!
I'm Jen, the owner and lead planner at Piper & Sloan. I worked with Darius at a recent wedding held at the beautiful Viansa Sonoma winery in Napa Valley, CA. Darius was responsive, helpful, professional, and had a truly great playlist (which isn't always so easy to find). He kept the dance floor full ALL night, and was quick to respond to timeline changes, last minute announcements, and made my job as planner easier. I'd definitely recommend Darius of Groove on Hyde St! -

Wow where do I begin. We were searching for the right wedding DJ. I have been told that Hiring the right DJ could make or break such a memorable day.
My wife and I spent a ton of time finding the best entertainment company that would meet our needs financially, professionaly and well versed in music from the 80s and 90s.
We found bunny on Hyde street and met with DJ Darius. We felt extremely comfortable with him and booked him for our special day.
He was attentive to our needs, schedule and song request during the whole process. We got so many compliments from our guest when we got back from our honeymoon at how much fun they had. From our grandma and Grampa dancing on the dance floor to my young nephew he really knew how to make it special for everyone.

We booked Groove on Hyde Street for our wedding in July of 2023 at Craven Farm and are so happy we did!! We started out working with Darius, who then connected us with DJ Shawn, who was our DJ and MC at the wedding.
Darius and Shawn had a great flow sheet for us to fill out with our timeline, must play songs and must not play songs, as well as other details for the run of show (including names of people giving toasts, genre preferences, cocktail hour and ceremony music - EVERYTHING). Shawn was SO receptive to our flowsheet, he was accommodating and super pleasant in our prep meetings, and we knew from the beginning that he was going to be a great fit for us.
The day and night went exactly as it was supposed to - thanks to Shawn! He was fun, funny, energetic, and once we were on the dance floor, we barely left! Thank you to Groove on Hyde Street and Shawn for making our special day so much fun!Groove on Hyde Street's reply:

I hired Groove on Hyde Street to DJ & MC our wedding at Hovander Park up in Ferndale, WA. My husband and I were expecting to have DJ Darius but I'm not sure what happened -- perhaps he was double booked -- but we found out last minute that we'd just be working with David. I really liked that they had us fill out a detailed spreadsheet of our wedding flow, special songs, absolute "must plays" and "must not plays," and that we had a call a few days beforehand to discuss everything. David did a great job during the ceremony, but I do have to be honest that I was a little bummed about the music selection. I heard from other guests that they quite enjoyed the DJ, and while the music was find and good, it just wasn't what I wanted or expected. We requested jazz and Michael Buble/Frank Sinatra music for our dinner music and as far as I could tell, none of that had been played, which was a little disappointing. But for me, the real bummer was that not all of our top 10 "must have" songs were actually played and one of my bridesmaids had to go up and request the songs I had wanted. We also have a list of other songs that we preferred be played and not a lot of those were played either. He played a few of the wedding classics and it was still good upbeat dance music but, it felt like it was just his own music mix list or a generic one they play for weddings that wasn't as customized as I was expecting based on previous phone conversations. It seems that if you are going to ask the bride and groom to create a "must have" list, then you should play those songs because I was really looking forward to hearing them. All in all, everyone danced and had a good time, and Groove on Hyde was professional and communicative throughout most of the process, they just didn't quite deliver an exceptional experience for our wedding.Groove on Hyde Street's reply:

This review goes out to DJ Dwayne.
Darius and Dwayne seemed easy to work with and we gave them a well organized timeline to follow for our wedding reception. When we had our phone meeting with Dwayne, he seemed enthusiastic and sounded professional. We even gave him a crowd-pleasing song list with about 150 songs to play. We were even detailed on their flow sheet. Dwayne had assured us that our information looks great and it was all complete, along with assuring us that he would be announcing everything on our timeline, throughout the evening. My husband and I felt really confident and super excited to have Dwayne host our reception.
On the day of our reception (9/19/2021), we got something completely different. For starters, Dwayne forgot the dance lights, which were stated in our contract. He ran the dinner music long after than what we stated on our timeline for the dinner timing. He did not announce any of our timeline activities as a wedding DJ usually does and like he had promised us.
For almost every activity, we had to go up to him and remind him to announce it. When he did, he would just say ir in a monotone voice and with lack of enthusiasm. Because we had to manage him, while we also tried to visit with our guests, our reception ran behind. Even my grandfather had said, “It’s 9:00, aren’t we going to do our father-daughter dance?” Dwayne also ran behind with our cake cutting, bouquets/garter toss by almost 1 hour behind. He forgot to even play our last dance song. We pretty much had to manage DJ Dwayne, or else he would’ve just sat there and let the music ply. Even one of our groomsmen went up to him to remind him and we need to do our toasting does he’s. Dwayne had even forgot to announce 2 people from our wedding party, so they didn’t get to do their speeches.
We spoke to Darius the owner and he wasn’t willing to compensate for much, just for forgetting our dance lights, which was the least of our concerns. Dwayne did half the job that was promised, so we thought it was only fair to get our deposit amount back to us. We paid $1,350 so that we could have a professional wedding dj, so that everyone can enjoy the night, without any worry. We feel very let down and disappointed, and all that money wasted on someone who did only half of the work.Groove on Hyde Street's reply:

This is a customer service job that requires the utmost level of service and professionalism for your Big Day and it is always an honor to be trusted with this duty. Over communication and preparation is our standard. Luckily it is very rare we do not meet expectations but when we don’t we are able to learn to adapt to the many expectations in this business.
What you mentioned is usually the job for the coordinator and we do our best to make sure your timeline is followed and we promised to do that and appears we failed. We should have also mentioned we do not have enough time to play 150 songs, a typical wedding is around 40 songs. We are super happy that you had no complaints about the dance party that went to midnight on a Sunday : ) You and your friends and DJ Dwayne seemed to totally be in sync there. While I did credit you some money, spoke on the phone for 45 minutes and now a surprise morning social media blast - we hope we can now make room to celebrate all the wins and happy times during the beautiful wedding and all the hard work Dwayne did to prepare to do an awesome job playing your favorites.

We got married this September and worked with Groove on Hyde Street to be our wedding DJ. We thought that we were working with a professional but who we got instead was DJ Shawn.
We filled out an app with all of our preferred music for the different sections like the ceremony, dance floor, and reception. My mother had a song that is very special to her that we wanted to play for her grand entrance, so we included that with notes in the app.
We had a phone call with the DJ to go over the schedule for each section and it seemed like he was on board. There was a shoe game we wanted to play and have the DJ host for us but they didn’t sound too confident so we ended up asking a friend instead (which went great!).
Reception entrance - it was a TOTAL MESS!!!
He completely skipped announcing my parents at all and went straight to the groom’s parents, playing my mom’s song! The song order was messed up, so he played the groom’s parents' song to introduce the groomsmen. After the groomsmen had already sat down, he introduced them AGAIN instead of the bridesmaids. For our entrance song we wanted it to start 2 minutes in (which I put in the note in the app), but he played from the beginning which is when I got frustrated. Why have us put all of this into the app if you aren’t going to read it at all!
We walked out with the song and just wanted to make it to our first dance, which we had practiced for several months to a version of ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’. We got up to the dance floor and he played a different version of the song and we froze. My husband asked him to replay it from the start and we decided to just dance the second-half, but it completely threw us off balance and ruined our first dance. All of our hard work for this moment was just thrown away.
During the rest of the night he was gone so often our friends didn’t see the DJ, leaving our playlist on autoplay. At this point we really wondered why we didn’t just bring our own speakers and play Spotify instead.
We never heard any apologies, maybe they think that is normal.
I would give 2 stars for Groove on Hyde Street, 2 stars for add-on services they provided. The fog machine and monogram were really nice, they personalized the venue and we both liked them a lot. If you are looking for a DJ to be present at your event, please look elsewhere.Groove on Hyde Street's reply:
