My partner and I got married at GSL end of June 2024. It was the most perfect day! We worked mostly with Cherry and a bit with Kate. When we first secured our date, the gals made sure we booked a side by side cabin far in advance so we didn’t have to compete with the summer rush. This served as our getting ready spaces and much of our wedding party stayed with us. We made a weekend trip over the winter to do our catering tasting and really got to visualize our event in the space. The food was delicious at the tasting and even better on the day! Cherry was so helpful coaching us through our selections and roughly how much we might need for our event (a tad over 100 ppl). I would recommend couples come prepared to talk through all the details during this time. We were able to provide a list of all our vendors and vision for the day which made our correspondence regarding the day much easier! The day we got married was a rainy one, and I was concerned we may need to move our event inside. Cherry told us we could decide last minute and even swap around cocktail hour if needed. She also had many many umbrellas if we wanted to be brave! The weather cleared up and made for the pinkest spectacular sunset. But I so appreciated the venue’s flexibility and Cherry’s calmness over the whole event. The reception space transformed with the ceiling display and bistro lighting. We hosted beer, wine, coffee and pop for our guests and hosted a smores bar outside. Their catering staff was so respectful and professional, we received so many compliments on the buffet food, Cherry got me a glass of wine while the gals bustled my dress - it was those details and service that made GSL stand out. If I had to do it all over again I would always choose this venue and location. It was pure magic getting married with Lake Superior in the background and such a stunning venue for our “destination” wedding. This was the best experience anyone could have planning their wedding. -

Incredible and a Dream
We started planning our wedding a year before the date. Everyone kept asking if we were stressed and the answer was always NO. Kate and Cherry were absolutely phenomenal at their job. They made everything so easy. Our wedding was far more amazing than we could have ever dreamed. It’s a day we will truly never forget. We will recommend Grand Superior Lodge for anything. For the food, the views, and most definitely for a wedding!! Everything was amazing and I’m so sad it’s over. -

The experience we had with the Grand Superior Lodge was nothing less than PERFECTION! From our first visit to the tasting and every change that came with getting married in 2020, the GSL staff was kind, helpful, and so professional. The kitchen was able to provide us with our dream wedding meal of a build your own burger bar and provided the appropriate accommodations for our guests as well. The space was clean and tidy and everything we hoped it would be. We cannot thank the GSL staff enough for all the work they put into our event! -

The most perfect day!!!
We had our wedding at the end of June and it was absolutely perfect. Kate and the team was incredibly easy to work with. The day was beautiful and the venue was perfect! Not to mention the food was amazing. Everyone couldn’t stop talking about how great of a time they had. I can’t wait to go celebrate our anniversary here! -

The weekend was PERFECT!!! We couldn't ask for anything better!! Everyone is saying how amazing Grand Superior Lodge is and how welcoming and helpful the staff are! People were blown away by the venue!! The space was perfect for our wedding!! The size worked out perfectly! Cocktail hour was amazing with the lawn games and the fire pit, that continued after dinner! I can't rave enough about how helpful you were through the whole process and during the big day! -

Erin Sent on 07/13/2015My husband and I recently got married at GSL. The north shore has always been incredibly special to my husband and I and this seemed like the perfect spot. From the very beginning staff was very helpful and friendly. Even right before the wedding some things started happening and the staff at GSL was flexible and eager to help in any way they could. All we heard from our guests the whole evening was "this was the perfect wedding" and guests couldn't stop telling us how beautiful the resort was. We worked with Nancy and she was absolutely amazing. My husband is a big craft beer drinker so when it came time to pick kegs she was on top of getting us prices and lists of local craft brews. I cannot thank GSL enough for making our wedding perfect! -

Hannah and Kate were wonderful to work with. I live in the Twin Cities area and felt that the communication about timelines, visits regarding tours and tastings, and settings such as place settings, food choices, extra lighting, and room design were well listened to via email and phone. The Lodge had everything we wanted for a more-casual setting than your typical wedding, and was very open to our ideas. We were able to have all-night appetizers rather than a formal dinner setting (buffet or plated), had the availability to use the patio for the ceremony and continue utilizing the space throughout the night for a cigar bar, bonfire, sparklers, and smores. GSL was the perfect place for my long-awaited fairytale wedding. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who wants a quiet get-away, not too far from Duluth or the North Shore, and an absolutely gorgeous setting. -

Beautiful wedding day at Grand Superior Lodge
I cannot tell you how many people have said how beautiful Grand Superior Lodge was on the day of our wedding. The ceremony space on the patio was stunning. There were wildflowers, butterflies, and hummingbirds. The view of the lake from the ballroom is exceptional. Everyone was wowed by the food, many saying it was the best wedding food they'd had. And let's not forget that when the power went out, the staff made sure the party went on. They worked so hard to make sure the outage did not drastically impact the wedding and I appreciate it so much. It was a wonderful, wonderful day. -

Gorgeous Venue
Gorgeous venue and Great Food! A month later we are still getting compliments about the food and view! We've been told a few times that our buffet was way better than plated meals at the DECC. We were lucky to have the most gorgeous leaves for our day in October.
As for the issues, the event coordinator was amazing to get a hold of until the day before the wedding. I didnt hear from her until an hour before our ceremony. She never set up the table for our ceremony. Through all the crazy my personal attendant and brother in law had to run to get a table during the ceremony and then set it up. Had the table been there I don't think we would have had an issue. I was told I would receive instructions for early set up and never did. I was also informed I would receive her cell number for the day of which never happened. We also forgot a tote with some of our most important possessions in the hall. Instead of calling or emailing in the morning it took until we got back from our honeymoon and we had to reach out. There was a binder with our names in plain view inside the clear tote and my mother had asked the day after if anything had been left. Luckily we only live a little over an hour away and we're able to go back quickly and not lose anything. This is just another example of her lacking communication when she is not setting up the bill. We were also made to feel bad when we considered only one entree for the buffet. ("Oh is that an option? No one ever does that. I don't even have the price written down")
Another large downside was the lack of a bridal suite. This could not have been remedied but should be kept in mind. A friend of mine had a suite and had a much more relaxing hour before her ceremony. We did have a cabin to get ready in but when guests started to arrive there was nowhere to hide from them. Even if we could have made it back to a cabin (couldn't because of the rain) we would have been spotted by the guests parking. Bathrooms were also in an inconvenient location for this issue. We spent some time running between floors. There is also only one alternative for bad weather which is moving into the Ballroom. This would be okay if the Ballroom was not so congested as it is. We had 130 guests (max was 150) and could barely walk between tables. Definitely cannot fit 150 even close to comfortably. It makes sense that you have to do buffet if you have that many because staff could not walk through with trays.
Overall we had a great experience. Three stars is considered pretty good. The original event booking coordinator we met with was amazing! I was very sad to have to switch from her to the event coordinator. Hotel staff was sweet and actually gave advice for the weather for when I saw the event coordinator. The biggest reason to book here is for the pictures but don't be shy. You will be walking through the back yards of cabins to get to the good rocks.
It ended up being a beautiful day and absolutely loved the bar and waitstaff. Desserts and food were great as well. I wouldn't change a thing about how our day turned out but wanted to make sure others are a little more aware than we were! -

The venue is absolutely STUNNING. We had the most gorgeous sunny day and it was absolutely breathtaking. Our guests commented again and again how beautiful the resort is. The patio is a perfect spot to get married, as long as there is good weather. The only issue we had was with the wedding coordinator, Kate Smith. There were multiple occasions where the communication was poor and it caused lots of confusion. When answering our questions, she was short with us and gave different responses to a variety of groups of family which made it difficult to coordinate. Beyond that, Grand Superior Lodge was the perfect place for our big day! -

Perfect Lake Superior Winter Wedding!
We LOVED GSL for our winter wedding. It was a perfect winter wonderland location right on Lake Superior! The food was absolutely delicious and we LOVED that we could have our ceremony, reception and lodging all in one place for the weekend! -

Shannon Sent on 09/19/2012Overall this is a great place and very beautiful. We loved having our wedding their and all of our guests liked it as well. Our only complaint is the lodges event coordinator was hard to get ahold of and did not volunteer info and guidance along the way. We had to ask about everything. Also on our wedding day, we did not feel she was around and checking on things to make sure everything we had ordered and were paying for was there and ready. There were a few things that got missed that could have been easily corrected before hand. Otherwise we love Grand Superior Lodge, just the event coordinator needs to be a little more involved or needs more help. -

Emily Sent on 08/21/2024Wildly stressful weekend exacerbated by Grand Superior Lodge
The food was really good and the location is beautiful. But the venue made my weekend much more stressful than it needed to be. Unfortunately, we were put in a room that had no AC and was so hot that my dogs were crying and my makeup was melting off my face. The 2nd room we were put in also had no AC. by the time we got into our 3rd room it was around 8 or 9 PM. I couldn't unpack anything that I needed to get ready because the next day we had to move into another new room. We couldn't do a proper rehearsal because we were trying to figure out the room situation and you also don't have access to the patio the night before if your wedding is on a Saturday and there is a Friday wedding. I ended up having to get ready for the wedding in my parents room and was crying and freaking out for much of the time before the ceremony because stuff was scattered everywhere and nothing was unpacked and ready to go. It rained during our ceremony and there wasn't a good understanding of what we would be doing since so much had to change because of the weather. I was ready to walk down the aisle and making changes to the ceremony because we couldn't do the full walk we were planning for but I wasn't aware of that until I got to the main lodge. Cherry, the coordinator at GSP, was minimally available throughout the weekend. My other vendors were amazing and kept me from completely losing my mind. The contract says that you have to have all personal items removed from the ballroom by last call, so I had to stop enjoying my own party to pack up decor and couldn't enjoy the song that I selected to be the last song of the night. Considering that we paid a lot of money to have our ceremony there, I would think that the service we got would have been significantly better. We didn't get our new room keys until about an hour before the ceremony started so I couldn't get our stuff moved up to our new room until after the ceremony so nothing was ready to have a comfortable night and unwind from a very stressful day. We got a very small refund for the rooms, but not enough to make up for how bad the venue made our whole weekend. I would not recommend that anybody get married here.
