Genesee Country Village & Museum is where my husband and I got married. I've always loved the GCVM since I was a little girl and we would go for school field trips. When I found out they hosted weddings, there was no doubt in my mind that I had finally found the place I wanted to get married. Everything about the GCVM is just absolutely jaw dropping. The entire village is stunning, the trees, the gardens, the houses, the farms, etc. For those who have never been you must check it out because it is just an incredible place to be! Some people know of the GCVM because they've been there once or twice in their lives, and others have never been there at all. It was so nice to have a spot where we could have the ceremony and reception all in 1 location, and still have time between to take so many pictures and your guests will not be bored! They have the opportunity to walk through the village and check out all it has to offer before making their way to your reception location. The wedding coordinator, Tammy was such a pleasure to work with. She is so quick to respond and is on top of her game! She is the biggest sweetheart and will do any/everything you need her to do to ensure your day runs smooth. I cannot say enough great things about the GCVM and Tammy!-

Flawless from beginning to end!
Our day was flawless from beginning to end and we cannot thank the staff and Genesee Country Village Museum enough, for helping make our day that much more special.
I had my wedding at GVCM on 6/8/19. Our ceremony was in the yard of the Brooks Grove Church, and we were given the rain option of having the ceremony inside the church. Our guests were given directions at the entrance for back to the church and the staff provided transportation to guests who were unable to make the walk, which put us at ease! The wedding coordinator was at our beck and call for whatever myself, wedding party/ family, or guests needed. She helped with the flow of the ceremony and assisted in the layout and organization of the reception.
Our ceremony was held in the Carriage Barn; the Carriage Barn gives you the rustic feel and the carriages and string lights hung above makes it all the more romantic. -

Tammy is fantastic, beautiful venue!
My husband and I have always been fan of GCV&M, and when we found out we could get married there we were surprised and excited. Tammy made everything so easy - fair warning she will give you a big hug when you first meet her, but that just made the experience all the more inviting. She treated us like we were family from day one. She was so helpful with any of our questions and made the day run so smoothly. We cannot express our gratitude to Tammy and the staff at the Museum. If you want a wedding in a unique setting and a coordinator that will be honest, and helpful and sweet, then you'll want to check this place out! -

We had three options for where to have our reception here: the carriage barn, the bigger barn, and the inside area. We choose the carriage barn because it was smaller and already mostly decorated. The inside to both barns have fairy lights and the carriage barn has all the carriages hung up so it truly is very very beautiful. I would definitely recommend this place! They offer package deals for those who have 120 guests or more. We only had 85, but everything was still super affordable. They are on the cheaper side for plate pricing, we had a buffet, compared to other venues we looked at. This is a great option if you want a barn wedding because you don't have to worry about renting tables and chairs because they provide them for you. Also, your guests can walk around the village/museum and check out everything... the village is beautiful and quaint- really transports you back in time. The photo opportunities here are awesome as well. Tammy, the wedding coordinator, is also so much help. She is easily reached by email and will respond very quickly. She is so nice and supportive as well. You can also choose to have your ceremony here as well, although we did not do this. -

We held our wedding at the Carriage Barn and cocktail hour at the Pavilion Gardens. We have nothing but great things to say about the facility and staff. This was exactly the wedding location we wanted and the team made our wedding perfect. -

We held our daughter's wedding and reception at the museum, and I have NOTHING but praise and thanks for our entire experience!!! The week before our daughter's wedding, the wedding consultant fell and injured herself to the point she was unable to do our daughter's wedding. Sean, from D&R Depot contacted us immediately, and told us he personally would be handling our whole event himself, and promised our day would be wonderful!!! He totally kept that promise! Our entire wedding party was taken to the wedding sight by horse and carriage giving our 4 little flower girls (who rode with their daddies) the opportunity to wave to patrons of the museum like they were princesses, and when it was our daughter, the brides turn to ride with her dad....many patrons waved, told her how beautiful she was, and even took her picture! She felt like royalty! The wedding ceremony itself was so romantic in the garden behind the Backus house (which was our choice of location, we had many offered to us including two different churches, an apple grove, and another garden to name a few)......and the reception (which we chose to have in the exhibition barn which gave us the rustic setting our bridal couple wanted) was outstanding with delicious food catered by D&R Depot, and incredibly friendly and helpful wait staff always right there to do anything for us. I would recommend that anyone thinking of a wedding should definitely go there!!!!! -

SallyAnn was beyond helpful and we never had to worry about anything.

The GCVM is a gorgeous setting in which to have a wedding. We used an outdoors location at the museum and the day was perfect. There are indoor options in the historic village, as well. I hardly had to use flowers because the grounds are so beautiful I didn't need to add anything more. The picture-taking options are endless. Tammy, the wedding coordinator at the museum, was so kind and so helpful, I can't imagine not having her there. When the day finally came, she was there from well before start until after finish and it was like having another member of the family. The contracted catered, D&R Depot isn't absolutely required, but there is a fee to use an outside caterer. Luckily, the D&R Depot did a fantastic job with our BBQ and pies menu and there was only a very, very small amount of leftovers. They priced and portioned perfectly, and allowed us to request specific beers and wines to be served, which was a huge hit.
The only very minor down side is that, if you can't or won't use the historic churches (for religious reasons like us, guest list size, etc), the indoor option can't really compete with the outdoor option. It's lovely inside, with antique decor and historic touches, but the outside options are so picturesque, so stunning, so perfect, it's really not fair to compare the indoor back up option. And that is literally the only reason I didn't give it a total 5 for value; if we could have counted on a church as a back up it would have been a 5/5. It was, however, the perfect location for a reception- beautiful, large windows, air conditioned, large room(s) that make it easy to have a bar/social area, the reception, and dancing/photobooth without any crowding, and with fully modern plumbing easily accessible.
The best part was that it felt very, very good knowing that our money was going to help a museum that both of us feel is worth preserving, instead of a random (but of course) lovely hotel or golf course. -

It was a beautiful location, easy to work with and a super help to making our day go beautifully!! Tammy Saeva was a huge help in the planning. There were some details we were unable to change due to museum rules, but they were minor, and not a problem to work around. The weather was perfect for our day, but they allowed us to have a weather back up plan! -

Tammy, the coordinator, was great. She ran our wedding very professionally, and was always there to answer any concern or question. There are many places to hold the ceremony, including gardens, churches, and fields. They also have a few different places to hold the reception. We held the wedding behind the Hyde house (octagon house) and in August, the garden backdrop of the ceremony was beautiful. We held our reception in the meeting center, and it was perfect. The meeting center has three rooms to use. One room was where the bar/entrance was. Another room held the DJ and dinner, and the third provided tables and seating. IT was very spacious, and people could mingle without being interrupted by the DJ's music. -

Issues with Wedding Coordinator
Although I would not change our wedding for the world, and overall we were extremely happy, we left not feeling very happy with the staff and wedding coordinators. The communication was extremely poor and as a result a lot of things went wrong on our wedding day. The invoices are not itemized, so after paying for the venue we thought that the horse and carriage had been ordered and paid for, since we had discussed it during our first meeting with the coordinator and she stated it would be included in the invoice. I should have double checked earlier, to be fair, but it was never ordered and we ended up not having it as a part of our wedding. The ceremony, for the most part, was perfect. I would not change anything about it. The reception dinner ended up being a bit of a disaster. Our wedding package did not include plates… we did not know this. We handled our own catering, having a family member pick up the food for us. The venue stated that they could set it up on the buffet with the included sterno, without any issue. After realizing that we did not have plates, no one from the staff said anything to my family or my husband and I for two hours. We were getting photos taken, but someone could have let us know so we could send someone out to get some. It wouldn’t have been a big deal if someone had communicated with literally anyone in attendance. By the time we realized, it was too late to send someone out to get plates which made it very awkward. The staff rallied around and got us something eventually, but they copped an attitude with us from this point on. Also, most of our food was burned because no one put water in the basins below the food. So the sterno started to burn through the aluminum, nearly ruining the food. If I had known the staff wasn’t familiar with how to set this up without this happening, I had family members that would have done it for us. But this was not communicated, and so they burned our food and made the reception hall smell like burning aluminum. Since the staff was angry with us by this point, they started acting passive aggressive. All of us had gotten ready in separate buildings from the reception. I had asked if we could leave our personal items there and go back for them after the ceremony, and was told yes. While I was getting photos taken with my husband, everything was packed up haphazardly and quite literally tossed on the floor in a room off of the reception area. We could not find the cash we had set aside for tips and various things - literally thousands of dollars - for over an hour. My husband and I were going through a silent panic thinking that the money had been taken or lost. We found it, but that was not a nice way to end the evening. There are still items we never found, a few items were thrown out without my permission, and other items were dirty or damaged. It was generally just unkind, or maybe just careless I’m not sure. I don’t believe that our extra hour we requested was ever billed to us, so I’m going to have to reach out to them to make sure. So I also got the feeling that the staff didn’t know we had until 9pm (with the extra hour) before we had to start cleaning up and getting ready to leave. So we left feeling a bit strangely toward the venue, because I had a few things go wrong that could have been preventable or at least fixable if there had been better communication. I’m still really glad we had the opportunity to get married here, it has special meaning to us because my great grand parents attended and were married in one of the churches on the property. I was able to get married where my family has so much history, and I loved every second of it. We had the most perfect weather, and the golden hour made for such a gorgeous backdrop for our photos. It was truly magical. My recommendation to anyone getting married here, document everything and hire your own wedding planner. Because although I still recommend this as a venue, their lack of communication could make for some issues on your big day. -

Brides take note
My stepdaughter booked gcv last year for her wedding and Tammy was great to work with in the beginning. The location is beautiful, however, Tammy did not do a final check of all the paperwork and permits until 4 hours before the close of business the day before the wedding. An issue with our DJ was found out at that time and we were left scrambling trying to find a replacement less than 24 hours before the wedding. The DJ we were going to use was a friend of the family who had done work at gcv before without issue and was going to charge us a very minimal amount. Because of the fact that we were not made aware of the issue with his insurance until that Friday we were left with hiring whomever was available at whatever price they charged us. Thankfully we found someone but it was a huge added stress to my stepdaughter and a huge extra expense that we were not anticipating. When I emailed gcv to talk to someone it took three days to get a response from someone other than the very nice lady who runs the general email account. So disappointed in how this was handled and as such can not recommend this place to hold your wedding. -
