Above and Beyond

Our cake was amazing and just what we asked for. When I told Adam I wanted a carrot cake, he drove over to my house with samples! It was fantastic! The cake was delivered as expected. I can’t thank him enough for his on point baking skills. Highly recommended.

We wanted the European Bakery to make our cake so much that my dad picked up my cake from Maine and drove it to New Hampshire -- they packed it securely for him and it was awesome!

I still dream of this cake

I was hesitant when I went to my tasting and saw that it was not a fancy bakery and no one was pouring champagne (I mean I kind of thought that is what a cake tasting was about, right?) but once I tasted the cakes and the magic that is honey buttercream (it's what dreams are made of!) I had a change of heart. No, the bakery isn't fancy, it's on some highway in the middle of nowhere and no, they don't roll out the red carpet for brides doing cake tastings. But what counts is they have endless options and will work with you to create your vision. Do not look at the book, as all of their cakes look like they are from 1987 - just send them photos of what you want the cake to look like and they will make it happen. Our cake was gorgeous and even more importantly, delicious! Also, pro tip - take the cake samples home with you! They do not bake the cakes the same day as your wedding in most cases - and we totally liked another cake the day of, but after trying all the cake samples the day after (and again the day after that!) we found the European Bakery cakes were even more delicious and one of the other bakery's cakes had totally dried out. Our cake was perfect and I can't wait to have the topper on our one year!

European Bakery did a fantastic job on our wedding pies and cupcakes. We had apple and cherry pies and three kinds of cupcakes for 115 people. We wanted a Boston Cream cupcake, which was not on the menu, but the team created a delicious cupcake that fit the bill and everyone loved it. Great job team!

European Bakery did a wonderful job with my wedding cake! Even though they changed ownership in the period of me placing my order and them making my cake, they still did a wonderful job. The new owners sat down again with me to go over everything and make sure they had everything right. Cake testing was the best part! I had no need to worry when it came to be my wedding day. My cake was delivered and was beautifully what I dreamed of!

Cake tasting is the best part about wedding planning! European Bakery gave us so many options with cakes, frostings and fillings. We decided on three different flavors for each tier and our guests loved all the them! The cake was light and spongy, while the frosting was creamy and sweet. While planning our cake, I was worried the cake would look to short. The staff was helpful and suggested to add a extra layer to each tier. I am so happy they were there helping make the cake of my dreams. They delivered the cake to the reception and used the flowers the florist left for them. It looked stunning! We would definitely order from them again.

My husband and I were lucky enough to have our cupcakes/cake for our wedding from the European Bakery! The cakes/cupcakes were not only DELICIOUS, but decorated to a perfect 10. Our guests could not stop talking about our desserts and thought the world of the bakery. 5 stars by far for this bakery! Cannot wait to book this bakery again for a future event!

So let me start by saying I am a cake person. I love cake. I look forward to holidays and events because of cake being served at some point. Helen and European Bakery were recommended to me by the venue I had my wedding at this previous weekend. Because I live in Ohio, my husband and I weren't able to do any cake taste testing, but trusted the recommendation. After having my wedding cake, I wish I did live closer so I could cake taste test at European Bakery as a past-time hobby. Our cake was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. And lucky for me (I mean us) -- there were leftovers aside from our 1 year anniversary slice. And I absolutely ate another piece the day after the wedding! Everyone complimented not only the incredible flavor, but the beautiful design. Helen, do you ship cakes? My birthday is in a month :) XO

We ordered quite a variety from Helen for our wedding: various fruit pies, two kinds of mini whoopie pies, wedding cake, and bread for blessing. Everything was delicious. We went for a tasting before we ordered and just couldn't stop eating everything. For our cake, we ordered a yellow cake with lemon buttercream and fresh blueberries. It was so light and delicious. Helen is very sweet and easy to work with.

The European Bakery was an absolute dream to work with. After the tasting we knew we had chosen the perfect bakery to create our dream wedding cake. We chose a very simple, white cake with whipped cream cheese filling with fresh blueberries and strawberries, topped with butter cream frosting. The cake design mirrored our wedding day theme which was simple elegance. It was breathtaking especially with the addition of the flowers from our florist. Thank you for the most beautiful wedding cake and we can't wait to come back in a year to have you whip us up some anniversary cupcakes!

I was so impressed with European Bakery for my daughter's wedding. The cake was absolutely gorgeous and delicious. The whole experience started when we were invited for the first consult and cake tasting. I recommend you go to the tasting with an empty stomach. You get to taste so many different kinds and the tasting pieces are quite large. The cake on the wedding day was absolutely gorgeous. Best of all... Wedding guests could not get enough of it. They said it was the best cake they ever tasted! Should you decide on European Bakery you will have fun at the tasting in their little bakery cafe bistro and also be amazed as you browse through her wedding cake portfolio as you TRY to decide on cake design! Remember to go on an empty stomach and Bon Appetit! As far as pricing goes... We paid the same for this cake as we did for our own wedding cake 37 years ago!!!!! We expected this cake to be so much more expensive.

We ordered cupcakes in 5 flavors from a wide range of options, and a small cake for cutting from European Bakery and all were delicious! And it was a great value for the cupcakes as well, as the cost of our tasting went to the final cost of the cake & cupcakes.

Our wedding cake was absolutely wonderful. The flavors were perfect. We had a great time going to the bakery and picking out what we wanted. They were perfectly willing to work with us, find exactly what we were looking for. The finished cake was beautiful, and exactly what we had asked for.

They also were willing to work with us to create something that was beautiful, tasty, and reasonably priced. Instead of insisting on a larger cake to feed all of our guests, they suggested a smaller "display" cake and a sheet cake out back. It allowed us to save a little bit on the cake while not sacrificing the flavor or quality. Definitely a plus!

The cake was delicious. Everyone loved it. The only problem was we had too much!

We had other dessert at the wedding and we were worried there would not be enough- so we made sure to order more than was recommended.

The prices were reasonable and everything was great!

We actually ordered a croquembouche (traditional French wedding pastries) from European Bakery. They were absolutely fabulous and flexible, especially since we placed our order with less than a week before the wedding... eek! Up until that point we had been getting the run-around from a lot of bakeries that were uncomfortable committing to making the croquembouche. When my fiancee (now husband) called European Bakery, the response was completely different, "We have all had experience making 'the croquembouche.'" Amazingly, the time frame didn't seem concern them at all.

It was so nice to be able to do the traditional kiss over the croquembouche and the pastries themselves were a HUGE success with our guests. We loved them so much that my husband has pledged to put in a small order every year to celebrate our anniversary. Thank you so much European Bakery!!!

European bakery went well above and beyond in their solutions for our cakes for our wedding. They really made our experience fun from the cake tasting event with our kids to having a couple of brainstorm sessions on how to decorate the cakes. We picked 3 totally different flavors and they worked their magic to make them all look similar on the outside even though they were all very different. The cakes were fresh and gorgeous. We chose tortes and were told they would transport very well for the 3 1/2 hours to our venue (even though we chose to save a few bucks and bring them ourselves) and they were right! Everything went great and the guests were blown away by the beauty and the excellent taste!

Helen and Emil created the most beautiful and delicious wedding cake for our daughter, Kristin's, wedding. Everyone raved about it . Having been a customer at European bakery since it opened, they have never disappointed and surpassed all expectations .

My husband and I chose to have three separate flavored tortes/cakes rather than a traditional wedding cake - our favorite cake in the world is European Bakery's Kahlua torte so we chose that, amaretto, and lemon/raspberry, all of which were a hit with everyone. Each was beautifully decorated. We had a brunch in the morning at the same Inn where the reception had been held the prior evening and one of the guests asked if there was any leftover cake - it was so good that was what she wanted for brunch (and that was exactly what she ate)!!

As a wedding coordinator I have tasted a number of wedding cakes, sweets and desserts so I knew where I wanted my wedding cakes to come from. With that being said I wanted my fiancé to know that we would be getting the best so I took him to a different bakery for our first tasting. It was fine, nothing special and then we went to European Bakery. He was astounded at the difference and I have to admit although I knew which would be best I was even a little surprised at how vast the difference was. Light fluffy cake (obviously not from a mix or frozen) delightful frostings (especially the buttercream, OMG!) and friendly, personable owners. We were in wedding cake heaven!

I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted (brought pictures) and when the cakes arrived they looked JUST like the pictures! It was true perfection start to finish. I can’t wait to have our cake again for our first year anniversary and I’m so glad we live close enough that we can order more each year!!

We got our cake (2 flavors) and mini-wrapped whoopie pies for the place settings from European Bakery. From the tasting to the cake, European Bakery was easy to work with, professional, and delivered the best cake! We tried a couple of other vendors in Portland, South Portland & Kennebunk, but we had issues with each (cake didn't taste great, business was extraordinarily disorganized (wrong date/place/flavor in quote)etc.) --it ended up being a really easy decision for us and I'm so glad we went with European Bakery. The cake was pheomenal and our guests that forgot the whoopie pies were very sad they'd done so!
European Bakery delivered the cake on time and without any issue-they were very easy to work with. Unfortunately, the venue did not put out the sheet cake that we'd ordered instead of a 4th tier (EB's suggestion to save some money)--while a great idea & cost savings, it's the one thing I think I'd do differently next time around as the venue didn't realize that they were supposed to put it out and so many guests didn't have a chocolate option, which was a shame - it was delicious (as I can attest for having done some damage to the sheet cake the week after the wedding).

I have never tasted a better cake in my life and was so happy to hear that over and over again from our guests. The folks at the European bakery even delivered it to Sunday River for us!!

It was a pleasure to work with Helen while making our cake and dessert selections. She was friendly, helpful and let us try an array of both cake and pastries. When then final details needed to be reviewed I worked with Tammy who was just as great. I was particularly impressed with the value and how delicious the cake was!

We cannot stop praising European Bakery. We love them just on random days to stop by and get a treat...but their wedding service was unbelievable. It was affordable, professional, and friendly. They made sure to find out exactly what we wanted- and when we changed our mind, they made sure it happened. Everything looked flawless and tasted even better!

European Bakery did a tremendous job with our wedding cake. We worked with Helen and had a consultation when we visited Maine a few months before our wedding. Helen was great at making suggestions and listening to our preferences. I showed her several pictures of sample cakes to give her a sense of what I wanted for the decoration, and she and her staff turned it into reality perfectly! The cake was delicious, beautiful, delivered on time, and very reasonably priced. We're very happy to have chosen them as our baker!

Let me start by saying I was a little worried about not doing a cake tasting before we decided to use Helen's services. Since we were a 2.5 car ride from her it wasn't easy to make our schedules work to get up there.
After one cake tasting at another establishment that I was not happy with we decided to take a leap of faith and use European Bakery on its reviews.
We were beyond happy and blown away with the cake!!! We went on Helen's recommendation of a vanilla cake with butter cream frosting, lemon butter cream and raspberry preserve filled. It was a huge hit!
The cake was moist, full of flavor and beautiful! So many guests kept saying how "Oh my god delicious" it was!
Helen is so easy to work with and for a busy woman she is quick to get back to you... unlike some other bakeries who I did not hear from for days/weeks after contact.
Her cakes a delicious and her prices are VERY reasonable! Thank you Helen! We LOVED our cake.

I had heard great things about European Bakery before I went in for a tasting - and we were not disappointed. Helen was fantastic when we went in for a tasting and we were able to taste a full variety of different cakes and frosting options. We decided on two types and both were used for our cake. Our cake came out beautiful - exactly how I wanted it, and it tasted delicious. Much better tasting than fondant, yet still they can do a clean look if you wish that looks as good if not better. We did a basket weave design which was beautiful. I highly recommend European Bakery if you are looking for a Wedding Cake bakery in southern Maine!

Helen was wonderful. We scheduled a tasting with her a year in advance (we live 2000 miles away and we were there to visit). She kept all of her notes from that tasting to make ordering the cake super easy (only needed 2 weeks notice to order the cake). I had no idea what I wanted for flavors, cake decorations, etc when I went to see her for the tasting. She showed me a book of photos of cakes that she had done, and I fell in love with her tree and bird design (which ended up setting the theme for the whole wedding). We tasted numerous cakes, and couldn't decide between three flavors - so Helen said we should just do all three! So we did! We had 1 tier chocolate raspberry, 1 tier chocolate mocha, and the bottom tier was white cake with lemon buttercream, a thin ribbon of raspberry and fresh blueberries - yum! Delivery charge was a bit expensive ($95) but well worth it. Helen did not try to up-sell us. She gave us estimates for different sized tiers, including sheet cakes or not including sheet cakes, how many each would serve, etc. Fabulous overall. No disappointment here!!

The European Bakery has always been my favorite bakery to grab delicious pastries and truffles. I was shocked to discover that their wedding cakes are actually very affordable. We selected their carrot cake with cream cheese and buttercream frosting. It was such a crowd hit at our wedding, even our dinner caterer couldn't stop raving about it.

Helen at the European Bakery is fantastic!!! Our wedding cake was beautiful, unique, and DELICIOUS! What more could you want for your wedding cake?! She really works with you to design exactly what you want, we were thrilled and got many compliments. She even design a special surprise grooms cake for my Star Trek loving husband - a 3 dimensional Enterprise ship - he was psyched!

My cake was so delicious!! Cake wasn't important to my husband, but that is one tradition I didn't want to go without. We chose a marble cake with mocha buttercream filling. My only regret is I didn't get enough of it.

This was the best cake I've ever had. All my guest loved it and I received so many compliments on its design. Eurpoean Bakery did a wonderful job and were very helpful is suggesting what type of flavors would pair well together. Our topper even tasted great 1 year later!

Helen from European Bakery made choosing our wedding cake extremely easy. She is very friendly and helpful, and our cake turned out brilliantly. My wife was more concerned with the cake than myself, but she was extremely pleased with the options we were given, and the price was even with competitors.

Absolutely wonderful and the cake was delicious. We were able to taste test the all the cakes as well as take home the left overs...which my husband loved. We ended up getting the 3 tier square cake. The bottom layer was an almond cake with raspberry ganache and the top two tiers were carrot cake. The outside was a champagne colored buttercream frosting. They also prepared a delicious flat sheet cake seperate from the actually wedding cake. That was chocolate with chocolate ganache in the middle. Amazing and very delicious. They drove the cake all the way up to Bangor from Falmouth....and it survied the trip.

Helene at European Bakery was the best! We tried all different types of cake & frosting combinations flavors to get the perfect match for our wedding cake....All the while she just sat smiled, was very patient & waited on our decision.
We wanted anchors on our cake to match the design on the front of our invitation. Helen's cake decorating skills were a perfect match, as if she had designed the anchor originally.

Helen from the European Bakery was so sweet (no pun intended) and the cake was just what I wanted, both visually and taste-wise (yummy chocolate raspberry ganache). She was able to use cage-free eggs, organic sugar, and it was delicious! Even as we were eating it three days later!

We had a wonderful experience with European Bakery. Helen was great answering all our questions and doing a fantastic job with the cake tasting. We honestly couldn't decide on one cake flavor, so we had three! The cake was beautiful and so yummy! We do regreat that we didn't get any of the chocolate peanutbutter layer!

In addition to doing our wedding cake, Helen also made a groom's cake. I went in a special request for a Jack Daniel's shaped cake. It came out unbelievable! My groom was totally surprised and very pleased. The cake was a work of art. It was delicious.

European Bakery made two different cakes for our wedding at Helen's suggestions because all of the flavors were so good and we couldn't decide on just one! She was also very helpful suggesting one be a sheet cake to save some money - she is very honest about prices and provides options for all different price ranges. Both cakes were delicious and we received a ton of compliments! European Bakery was very easy to work with and I would highly recommend them!

If you want a simple light cake, this is the place for you. If you are looking classic french baking ala martha stewart magazine it's not.
The staff was so NICE it was as though they were made from sugar! They were very helpful in the tasting and straight forward about what they offered. With there prices you really can't go wrong! We opted for a swiss dot round cake and it was elegant and delightful. We also order mini whoopie pies that very good.

Our cake from European Bakery was a layer of vanilla cake with cream cheese filling, fresh blueberries & strawberries, another layer was carrot cake with cream cheese filling and the third tier was chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling and raspberry preserves!!
It was VERY reasonably priced, absolutely beautiful and we were told that it tasted amazing!! We were so busy talking and dancing at our reception that we didn't get a chance to eat a piece of our own wedding cake! We'll be back for our first anniversary to order a mini-version of our cake for just us to enjoy.
They're best reached by phone, just ask for Helen. I would highly recommend them to any future Maine brides!

The cake was more beautiful in person than we could've imagined, and so so delicious! We provided our own cake topper, which was delivered with the cake without incident, and everything was as we had discussed in our communications. Guests raved about how good the cake was! Our cake from European Bakery was absolutely delicious and beautiful as well. The only complaint we have with them is that our coordinator at the Union Bluff told us that the bakery delivered the cake very late – like, it arrived during the cocktail hour. This could have been a fluke Labor Day weekend traffic/busy wedding day situation, so I would still recommend them. The cake was delicious and much more reasonably priced than other options.

Tasty cake!! They worked with our budget creating an exquisite cake to show and a sheet cake for eating to be more cost effective. Were able to create a few different flavors for us. Even the event staff said it was the tastiest cake they had all summer!

Helen was a pleasure to work with, responsive and professional. We enjoyed our cake tasting so much that we had three different flavors in our cake! The cake itself was delicious, but I could not help but be disappointed by the way it looked. We had given them a picture to try to replicate and paid them extra to do it. They said they could reproduce the cake in the picture, but the result looked somewhat sloppy and haphazard. I have no doubt that it was a difficult design to execute, but I wish they had let us know they could not complete the design so we could pick something different.

My aunt made pies for our guests so I used European Bakery to make a small ceremonial cake for just the two of us. It was beautifully decorated the way I wanted and it tasted much better than other places I tried, but it did not stack up to homemade pies. It didn't have as much flavor as I would have liked but it was very reasonably priced.

bottom line is the cakes are FABULOUS, but the bakery's customer service ethic could use some work. They came highly recommended, and I'd communicated with them a bit, but in the couple weeks before my wedding emails weren't answered. i called several times, and the line was frequently busy (just one line and no voicemail service). Twice they picked up, and two different employees gave me the same response: call back tomorrow when Helen is here. No offer to take my number and have her call me back, no other staff that could possibly help. At that point I was starting to think I needed to find another option, and told them so--indicating that this was not okay. When I emailed that to Helen, she did jump into action, providing me cell phones, etc. I'm glad I stuck with them, as the cupcakes were a big hit at the wedding, but I will credit European bakery for pushing me as close to bridezilla as I got. Get voicemail service! return phone calls! and maybe train a few more staff to discuss wedding orders. . .

My wife and I hired them to make our cake for our May 28th wedding.

The wedding day came, and when we entered our own reception we were greeted by the WRONG CAKE! The European Bakery was extremely negligent in the fact that they delivered some other poor couple's cake to our reception.

Nothing the EB can do will ever make up for the fact that our pictures and memories are ruined because of their inability to pay attention to details. Beware.

Never brought my cake

I ordered a cake with the European Bakery months before my wedding. I went there to taste test, made my order, and confirmed the delivery. They called weeks later to discuss the exact time it would be delivered. When we asked if we needed to give a deposit, they told us "not to worry about it, we could pay later." Then, on the day of my wedding the cake NEVER SHOWED UP. The bakery stated we hadn't paid so they never made the cake. They took the time to call me to finalize drop-off details but failed to mention we still owed them money. The cake never showing up was the biggest disappointment of my wedding day and completely unprofessional for them to just not show up with the cake at all with no forewarning. I would order my wedding cake from anywhere else in the Portland area before ordering it from them.
