Rogier is extremely professional about his work.
He knew my expectations, and went beyond expectation. I did not have a wedding planner, I was the wedding planner, Rogier was very flexible with working with my inexperience planning my own wedding. Highly recommended, and would hire again!
Married May 31, 2025.
The rain made me nervous, but Rogier gave me hope!

I made the life altering decision to propose to my girlfriend of 6 years atop Cadillac Mountain in Maine last week.
I'm from Florida so finding a reliable photographer in the area for the big day was a real concern at first. I reached out to several with little to no response before coming across Eager Eye Photography.
Within 10 minutes of reaching out via instagram, I not only received a text message but also a nine page FAQ packet sent via email!
Rogier from Eager Eye Photography went over and beyond to answer any and all questions I had related to our special moment, making suggestions along the way.
I found out that Eager Eye specializes in surprise engagements, even though I elected to propose in advance the morning of the shoot followed by the photo shoot - (my lady made it CLEAR several years ago that if I were to propose that she was to be properly dressed, makeup'd up, etc, if there were photos taken and I tend to listen because I enjoy breathing...).
Rogier recommended Sands Beach for the shoot, and it didn't disappoint!
The location was beautiful and gave the impression of several different locations along the shoot.
Rogier felt like an old friend, going out of his way to make us feel comfortable in every way possible.
We all found ourselves genuinely laughing the entire time!
My now fiance : ) is actually a photographer herself and was very impressed with the flow of the shoot and style of photography.
Oh - She asked if there was any way to receive just one photo that night to send to family members and Rogier said there was usually a two week turnaround time and that he would see what he could do.
WE RECEIVED ALL OF OUR PHOTOS THE VERY SAME NIGHT!!!!
Such an amazing experience.
So much so, we're planning on flying back to Maine every other year and redoing the shoot with him!
Didn't plan on this review being this long, but there is just so much to say about the wonderful experience.
Overall, I'd recommend Eager Eye Photography to any and everyone looking to make that special moment even special'er (is that a word??? Don't care, it works!)

Had a shoot with Rogier in October for a proposal in Acadia. Rogier was upfront, made suggestions as to location and timing (he was right), and everything went smoothly without a hitch. Turnaround time was fantastic as well! -

Just Wonderful!
Rogier/Eager Eye Photography did an amazing job capturing our wedding. Rogier communicated well and professionally prior to the wedding day and then throughout the actual day-of. Him and his colleague captured both of us getting ready, every piece of the ceremony, and all of the special moments throughout the reception. His specialty is candids and we recently received all of our photos from the day and that specialty really shows. We couldn’t be more happy with the photos we have been given. We were on the fence with hiring a photographer because of the cost. I will tell you that Eager Eye is well worth the cost, you will not regret it! -

I found Rogier online because of his abundance of glowing reviews. I was planning a surprise proposal on top of Cadillac Mountain and wanted someone to capture the moment.
Rogier's communication was world class. We spoke via email, and on the phone twice, before the day and I felt like he clearly understood what I wanted and made sure no questions were unanswered.
The day of the proposal, Rogier was stealthy and discrete, and captured some phenomenal photos as we were walking to the lookout.
My girlfriend, who is now my fiance, and I are amazed at the quality of the images that Rogier took and edited. We plan on ordering several prints to hang in our house.
Everyone we have shown the pictures to echo our thoughts that they are world class.
If you need a wedding or proposal photographer, choose Rogier for your special day. You'll know that you made the right choice once you see his work. -

Sand Beach Wedding

Rogier captured our family so beautifully during our 15-year vow renewal service. After checking out his website and reviews, I booked him and asked for his suggestions for a spot! Not only did he recommend the PERFECT place, it was private, secluded and more than we could have imagined. He was very professional from inquiry to booking to event, and even delivered our photos within a few days (well under his promised delivery date). I absolutely love our photos and would highly recommend him to anyone looking for gorgeous shots. He even captured my 11/13yo boys (despite their hesitation for the camera)! Thank you Rogier! -

Made my surprise proposal effortless and perfect
Working with Rogier was truly special. He was very professional and experienced with doing surprise proposals out here on MDI and it showed. His knowledge of the weather and island made it seemless to plan out and execute the perfect proposal time and location. His communication with me was effortless and helped ease my anxieties and stress while trying to excute the perfect memory for my girlfriend and me. His pictures capturing the beautiful moment are breathtaking and have generated many tears of joy with us and as we share with family and friends. We will have these to look back on forever and I’m grateful for his great work. It’s not everyday you propose to the love of your life and it happens in such a short window of time and he captured it perfectly. The photo shoot afterwards was very fun and enjoyable. My fiancé said she felt super comfortable the whole time, when she normally doesn’t like photo shoots, which says a lot about Rogier! -

Rogier photographed our surprise proposal in Acadia and the whole experience was absolutely magical. He took us to several of his favorite (breathtaking) spots on the island to take photos. Rogier was kind, creative, and made us laugh and smile throughout. He is clearly very talented at what he does! Exactly what I wanted
Rogier had great suggestions for ideal spots for the engagement shoot. Settled on sand beach and it was perfect. He was exactly where and when he said he would be to sneakily follow my fiancé and I onto the beach and perfectly favorite our special moment. 10/10 -

My fiancée and I really enjoyed working with Rogier. He gave us exactly the right amount of guidance - we felt confident letting him worry about the poses and just got to relax and enjoy the moment. My husband and I were so lucky to meet Rogier the week before our August 2021 wedding- our original photographer had to cancel due to a funeral that would be on our wedding day, and by some miracle, the wedding that Rogier was supposed to shoot that day had also been cancelled and he was amazingly available! He immediately jumped on board with us, Life in Focus, and the rest of the team that made our wedding possible with such grace, flexibility, enthusiasm, passion, professionalism, good humor, and hard work that made it feel like he had been working with us for just as many years as the rest of our vendors. Rogier reached out promptly and thoughtfully, and was always responsive and generous in his communications. His thoughtfulness, kindness and patience from those first phone calls reassured us that everything would be amazing, and it certainly was-- something we know was no small feat that day! On our wedding day, it was hot and humid all day before thunderstorms during our ceremony that caused us to move our ceremony indoors inside a barn. Rogier worked hard to complete our shot list for our first look and photos with the wedding party and family outside before the ceremony, racing the approaching storm with calm and humor. He made this look easy and kept everyone laughing through what we know was a physically demanding task in the heat and humidity. He then tackled shooting our ceremony and reception inside the dark barn through the downpour, and shooting outside after it cleared and people wandered outside into the sun again. We are indebted to his flexibility, patience, and sense of humor throughout this marathon of a day- Rogier was such a pleasure to work with, and is such a lovely and wonderful person who not only made this day fun, but captured it so beautifully, we were truly amazed. He holds himself to high standards of excellence in his professionalism and quality of work, and we were surprised and so excited to receive many of the photos the very next day. They were stunning (our family and friends agree!), and we will certainly cherish them for the rest of our lives! We are so grateful. -

Amazing!
Rogier is incredible!!! Our wedding photos are absolutely beautiful. I am not very comfortable being photographed and Rogier made the entire process effortless for me. Without a doubt, Rogier is the best wedding photographer available. Run, don't walk to book him. Pictures are the most valuable tangible item from the most special day in a couples life together. -

Rogier with Eager Eye Photography came highly recommended to me from the Bar Harbor Inn. I could not be happier with him. First, he is one of the most reasonably priced photographers in the area. He was also the only photographer I contacted out of around ten that was flexible and willing to only come for a few hours and take pictures during the ceremony. Most importantly, he was extremely fun to work with, took absolutely STUNNING pictures and made them available the next day. He also offered more pictures than specified in our contract. I would absolutely recommend Rogier to anyone. Far exceeded my high expectations. And when I say stunning pictures I mean it. They truly took my breath away. I also wanted to remake that it was a really windy that day, yet not a single picture had everyones hair blowing around in their faces. -

Choosing Eager Eye Photography was the best decision I could have made for our engagement! My (now) fiancé and I were traveling to Acadia National Park for the first time and Rogier was able to tell me about great locations in the park, offer recommendations, and even remain flexible with scheduling around weather changes. Most importantly though, the photographs he produced were wonderful and I can't recommend his work enough! -

Rogier photographed our wedding in Maine. Despite crossing my fingers for sunny skies, the afternoon was dreary and rainy. However, Rogier still managed to make the outdoor photos look full of life and dramatic beauty. For the indoor photos in the evening, we asked him to take pictures against a window, which created an extra challenge to avoid reflections on the glass. Yet again, Rogier worked magic. Our photos came out looking wonderful and warm. He even got my nieces to smile! Rogier is a true artist. -

Throughout planning leading up to our big day he was very helpful and communicative. Rogier took beautiful photos in our favorite spots in Bar Harbor/Acadia and was super easy to work with. We recently got married in Northeast Harbor, and he captured our day so beautifully. Leading up to the wedding, Rogier's communication was great - he is very responsive and friendly to work with. We are absolutely thrilled with the photos - we have a perfect mix of staged family/bridal party shots, wonderful images from our ceremony, and lots and lots of candids capturing the spirit of our day. Our photos were received well before the deadline in our contract (3 weeks vs. 8!), and he nearly doubled the promised amount in the contract. Overall, hiring Rogier was one of the best decisions we made in planning our wedding!"

Andrew Sent on 07/25/2018Ten years ago Rogier van Bakel (Eager Eye Photography) photographed our wedding. We love the pictures he took, literally enjoying them every day on a digital frame and printed in a gorgeous album on our coffee table and felt we should thank him again with a review.
When we hear a friend is getting married, after congratulating them, the first thing we advise them to do is to book Rogier as their photographer!
Before our wedding we looked at the websites of a couple of dozen Maine photographers and choose Rogier based on his portfolio and a conversation we had with him on the phone. We were very lucky, he was easy to have at our small wedding and we love his pictures! Having worked for years as a professional photographer (and being a bit of a perfectionist) I had very high expectations. Rogier was wonderful to work with, met with Jen and I, listened to what we wanted and did a spectacular job of capturing the day. Rogier did a fabulous job of editing the images, and presented us with the final pictures before we had time to leave for our honeymoon! If you need a great photographer Rogier van Bakel is an outstanding choice! -

Rogier was not only the most professional of all the vendors we worked with, but the final product far exceeded our expectations. He managed to get every great moment and create a few on his own. It's been nearly 7 years since our wedding in Bar Harbor, Maine and we still so much enjoy looking through these beautiful images he took that day. He just did my daughter’s wedding at the Bar Harbor Club and he had our pictures to us to review in less than a week even taking the time to meet my daughter to review them and help her pick her album. The pictures are artistic, loving and just absolutely beautiful. We’ve had numerous friends who’ve used other photographers comment that our photos are far superior and much more unique. Tim Sent on 10/01/2017Rogier is absolutely amazing. We were a bit unique and had him take photos for our engagement in Acadia National Park. Not only did he capture the moment, we did an engagement photo shoot afterwards for an additional hour. He kept us in touch the entire process, even drove out the day before to the spot to make sure he wouldnt miss sunrise at the park. A true professional who's talents radiated from the shoot. He even went over almost an hour to make sure we got all the best parts of the park at sunrise. The quality of the images were absolutely stunning; I am a photographer myself and the work he did with the lighting that we had, was unbelievable. I still do not know how he did what he did with that camera. Finally, we were fortunate that he took time out of his morning and edited the photos that day. We can't say enough about Rogier and his work and would highly recommend Eager Eye photography; they are well worth the cost!

All of out guests complimented us on our choice of photographer, as he was getting all of the shots, knew exactly how to position everyone, captured the perfect lighting and always knew just where to be. The photographs are so beautiful, especially the candid shots and breathtaking sunset photos! We even threw a curveball and wanted to do a sparkler send off, which I know can be difficult to photograph, and Rogier was great and the pictures turned out perfect! -

Lauren Sent on 08/11/2016When planning your wedding, one of the most important things (to me) was the photographer. Pictures last forever and I think finding the best wedding photographer should be a top priority. I was lucky enough to have met Rogier van Bakel years ago at my sister’s wedding. Back then I was a bridesmaid. I’m sure I can speak for all the bridesmaids (and bride) and say that we absolutely loved working with Rogier. I was so impressed by the quality of his work, that as soon as I got engaged I told my fiancé I wanted him for our garden wedding. I excitingly emailed Rogier and soon after I had booked him for the big day.
Rogier and I mostly communicated through emails. He was always quick to respond, pleasant, and very helpful in answering my questions. On the day of the wedding, Rogier and his assistant Doug arrived right on time. I greeted him but was quickly pulled away by my flower girl/stepdaughter who needed help with her dress. Rogier immediately started snapping pictures of the two of us and I ended up with a sweet picture of my stepdaughter and I. Rogier truly has an eye for capturing precious moments.
Most of the time, you don’t even notice he’s there. He is so fast in capturing those in-the-moment shots. Not one single picture felt posed or inauthentic. His photos were artistic, candid and above all, fun! My favorite photo was when Rogier took us through the Maine woods. As we trudged through bushes and branches, we finally came to a clearing. Standing in the middle of wild grass that reached our elbows, Rogier snapped away. The result was a breathtaking and visually stunning picture.
I received my photos only ten days (!) after the wedding. My husband and I absolutely love our wedding pictures. Whenever we look at them it puts a big smile on our faces. I cannot recommend Rogier enough. His talent speaks for itself. He truly captured the joy, laughter and love of our special day!
