I had a multi event Indian wedding with many different outfits-Crystal worked with me to figure out the best makeup for each event. She came prepared and so patiently did everything. The makeup lasted, and looked amazing in the pictures. She also really helped me swap makeup/looks between events efficiently and was so friendly. 100% recommend!Drake Artistry Collective's reply:

There are not enough words to express just how amazing my experience with Crystal was! One of my favorite things about the experience was the trial beforehand! It was nice to go in and talk through all of my likes/dislikes when it comes to my makeup and hair. I didn't just show her a picture and say "Okay this is sort of what I want." She actually took the time to break every single detail down with me. She wasn't just "recreating" a photo that I liked and applying that to my face and hair. She was creating a look WITH me. One that made me feel so beautiful and still like myself at the same time :) She is an expert at enhancing the beauty that is already there. ALSO! I know myself and I am an incredibly anxious person who gets stressed easily. The morning of my wedding was no exception. That is, until Crystal arrived. Because we had already done the trial, I knew what to expect and that made me feel so much better. Also! She was just such a calming presence to have with me that morning. Always checking in with me to see how I was doing, making sure I had water, etc. I truly have never felt so beautiful than on the day of my wedding. I owe SO MUCH of that to Drake Artistry Collective. I will ALWAYS recommend this company! -

Crystal and her stylists were wonderful to work with! They worked well within our vision and brought levity and professionalism to the preparations and the day itself—keeping us primped, hydrated, and laughing. We had some small scheduling hiccups in the weeks heading up to the event and things were rescheduled and fit in immediately without batting an eye. Everyone's hair and make-up held perfectly throughout the evening without every feeling restrictive. The perfect choice to help our wedding feel and look effortless! -

During my preview, I didn't have a clear vision for what I wanted, but knew I wanted a natural style. Crystal listened closely and helped me think through options to find a look that felt like me (only better! :)) Crystal is organized, dependable, and also fun to hang out with. The day of my wedding, I felt comfortable and confident, so I could focus on the fun! -

Crystal is exceptional
I found Crystal through my wedding planner. I wanted to hire a small business where I could talk to the actual person who was going to be doing my hair and make up. Crystal was great, she was quick to respond and was very specific on what information she wanted to know. She asks many questions to make sure you will have a great relationship. I really appreciate her questionnaires to make sure we would be compatible and for her to really understand your vision. Your wedding is important and the HOURS you spend getting ready really sets the stage for the day. Crystal created a great timeline, the timeline worked perfectly, my hair and make-up began and ended on time and her assistant was amazing with my family and bridal party. I felt like Crystal was my friend and knew the ins and outs of what needed that day.
She is not just there for your hair and make-up she is there to make sure you feel like the bride and everyone else knows you are the bride- its your day, its your money and you deserve to have a stress free morning.
Crystal and I had many back and forth emails as I live in Arizona and got married in Detroit Michigan. She was willing to schedule my hair and make up trial while I was home in the summer - this lined up perfectly with my photographers to do our “engagement” shoot on the same day. My trial was great, she made sure she looked through all my photos and chose what would work best for my skin/face and personal preferences. If there was something I wasn’t sure about she was honest in her suggestions. After the trial my hair and make up had a real test. While doing our photoshoot there was a HUGE storm- rain sideways, trees and trash flying through the air and intense wind. My hair and make up help up exceptionally. I was fully confident after this trial run everything would be great for a Michigan wedding.
We did our make up at the Ren Cen- the front desk was not helpful in setting things up but Crystal was prepared for that and had great communication to make sure we knew where she was and when to grab her to make sure she got up to the room.
She brought each person a personal bag with their make up in it and I had an attendant stay with me through the reception. This was a great option. It helped having someone there to fix any make up after I balled on my first look, someone there to give me water during photos, someone there to fix/add more lip stick and assistance in putting my gigantic veil on before the ceremony. There was even a fly that got into my veil and thankfully with an extra set of hands we were able to avoid a freak out !
Crystal is understanding, honest and specific. I really appreciate all those things and I would hire her again in a heartbeat. -

Crystal is absolutely the best hair vendor, must hire for south asian brides!!
Crystal Drake Artistry were the best hair team I could possibly imagine working with during our wedding weekend!!! As soon as I met Crystal during our trial and watched her nail all 3 of my looks, I knew she was the perfect fit for me. Throughout the process, she was timely, organized, and so accommodating to all the last minute changes in the timeline. During a chaotic Indian wedding weekend, Crystal had the BEST attitude and brought so much ease when I was sitting in her chair (which was probably close to 5 hours total). She truly goes above and beyond and clearly cares about her brides - for example, giving me ice packs when my knuckles were sore from all the bangle changes :), helping with mid-ceremony outfit changes, etc. Most importantly, Crystal’s skillset is exceptional as she was able to create the perfect South Indian braid that I envisioned. She is well-experienced in all the accessories Indian brides wear and made the day-of process seamless. Her looks for our moms were also spot on! I cannot recommend Crystal enough, especially for any South Asian brides!!! -

Fun and reliable!
Crystal Drake was wonderful to work with for our lively Indian wedding festivities! She was flexible and supportive during the trial as we tested out different looks and ideas, came prepared with a water bottle and touch up kit for me to keep during the long wedding day, and made sure I was happy with my look. I am Chinese American and typically don’t wear make up (and have never worn foundation before). I obviously wanted a full face of makeup on my wedding day, but knew that a heavy full face would make me look silly instead of glamourous. I specifically wanted to look at portfolios of MUA that have done make up on asian eye shapes as I have struggled with eyeshadow and eyeliner on my own eyes watching generic YT clips. I was so happy to find Drake Artistry Collective. They have a portfolio showcasing their capabilities doing natural make up on Asian Americans and their capabilities of doing heavier makeup as well.
I shared my concerns of not wanting to “feel the heaviness of makeup on my face” and the fact that my hair is extremely thin/fine and gets oily very easily. Crystal listened to these concerned and told me exactly how she would handle it. She was great in her explanation on what she does and how she differs from other vendors. I had reached out to several before finding her and after speaking to her on the phone, I knew to move forward with her.
Trial run went perfectly - she even took some pictures in a “professional” setting to show me how the makeup would look like in certain lighting. We touched base after the trial to ensure everything lasted as it should and any tweaks that were needed. On the day of, her and her team arrived on time and were professional the whole time. I had a large bridal party of 8 people as well as my mom and MIL AND the flower girl. And they were great in timing things out and leaving space for any touch ups that were required. They even thought to schedule out each of my girls according to hair thickness and etc. Everything was perfectly planned. I would 100000% recommend them to anyone looking for a MUA.Drake Artistry Collective's reply:

Crystal and her team (I worked with Sarah, Angela, and Maddie) were AMAZING! From the initial inquiry to my wedding day they were so helpful and kind. The trial that they offer is wonderful and Crystal even takes professional quality pictures to send to you so you can look it over and see if you want to change anything about your look. The day of the wedding was perfect. Everyone arrived on time and they were very professional. I booked the retain service in case I needed touch ups before/after the ceremony but my hair and makeup looked great literally all night. I was extremely impressed because typically my hair doesn’t hold curl that well. I am so glad that I had Drake Artistry there for me on my wedding day. Crystal is amazing!
Crystal and her team did an exceptional job with hair and makeup for me and my bridesmaids! It was so nice to not have to worry about getting everyone ready in time, and the end result was absolutely stunning. She puts so much care into her work, which was evident even from the initial consult. It was also so sweet that she provided each of us a little bag of brushes! Crystal stayed with us during photos up until the ceremony, and helped us with touch ups, the dress and veil, and by fixing heels that were slipping through muddy grass. Looking back on pictures from the day, I am just so thankful that we booked Crystal. I cannot recommend her enough!Drake Artistry Collective's reply:

Professional, Personalized, & Thorough!
Like many others, we ended up having to change all of our original wedding plans and ended up going with a much smaller family event. I first reached out to Crystal less than two weeks before my wedding, and she was nothing but professional from the start. Her process included an initial phone call, questionnaire, highly detailed brochure showing different customized packages, and a timeline for the day. Despite the wedding being so close, Crystal was also able to make time for a trial, and took photos to make sure everything was perfect. She was thorough and organized, and put me at ease immediately. Everything went extremely smoothly the day of the wedding. In addition, she has gone above and beyond to take the necessary measures to keep her clients safe during the pandemic. Crystal is a pleasure to work with. I am the kind of girl who wears minimal make up and often times looks like a clown with heavy make up on. I was nervous going into the experience. Turns out Crystal is a pro with the minimal-make-up look. She even managed to match my ethnic skin tone perfectly! I felt beautiful. I still looked like myself, but a crisp, polished, royalty-level version of myself. During my trial session, we couldn't find the right lip color. She sent me ideas to try on at the store and offered to mix up a custom color if we couldn't find one color that worked. To top it off, she is a punctual, mildly-OCD (in the best way possible for a wedding vendor, seriously, you want someone who has a plan/schedule and sticks to it), wonderful human. Fantastic!
Crystal and her team were awesome!! I sought her out because I really wanted airbrush makeup, and she was one of the only people I found who offered it. She made me feel really comfortable even though I don't know much about makeup, and I LOVED the result! It lasted all night, but she left me a really nice touch-up kit too (including the entire lipstick she had used on me earlier!). The most amazing thing was that she had a minor emergency the morning of my wedding, and she was still there on time--to my wedding FOUR HOURS AWAY. Beautiful August Wedding in Ann Arbor
Crystal did an amazing job with my hair and make up for my big day. I received so many compliments on how beautiful I looked. I felt beautiful but better! The look on my husband's face when he saw me was priceless. But I need to rave about the service she provided. She came with me and my bridal party carrying my purse and shoes while we took pictures with the photographers. She also made touch ups whenever my make up needed a little fix (which barely was needed. It was nearly flawless!) And she carried everything from our bridal suite to my hotel room by herself! She went above and beyond to make our day special. I highly recommend having Crystal for your wedding day or any special day. You won't regret it!Drake Artistry Collective's reply:

Crystal is incredible. From the makeup and hair trial through the big day itself, Crystal made my experience enjoyable and stress-free. My makeup and hair both lasted the entire day/night, and I received so many compliments!!! The products Crystal uses are high quality and felt good on my skin, and her skill is second to none. My original hair and makeup person actually fell through last-minute, and Crystal stepped up to save the day! I got so many compliments on my hair and makeup and felt so confident! She is also a great person to have around on your wedding day, very cool and calm--you know you are in good hands. :) She did a great job with my sister/maid of honor's makeup and hair as well. Working with Crystal and her team was a breeze! We chose make up only services and they really did make our visions for the day come alive! Sarah did my make up, and she made me feel like myself but with a much better make up job than I could have dreamed of! The make up was lightweight, so I didn’t feel it on me at all! I never wear foundation so normally that doesn’t feel normal to me, but I couldn’t even tell I had it on. My bridesmaids all looked amazing and cohesive, which was important to me. I booked the retaining services for the time between first look photos and the ceremony starting and I am so thankful I did. One of my bridesmaids forgot her shoes in her car at the hotel about 15 minutes away. Sarah jumped up and volunteered to go get them and she was out the door before I even noticed she was gone. The retaining services was more than just making sure everyone’s make up stayed put, Sarah held my bouquet, fixed my train, and made sure I had everything I needed. She was a godsend on my wedding day. I cannot thank her and Janay enough for making everyone look perfect and thank you Crystal for having such a great team!Drake Artistry Collective's reply:

Crystal was amazing and I couldn't be happier with the results! She was so fun to work with and worked with me to give me exactly what I wanted. Being East Asian, I was concerned about getting "panda face" and finding a makeup & hair artist that knew how to work with my skin and hair type. As someone who doesn't wear makeup regularly, I was also concerned about the makeup being "too much". Crystal knew exactly what products to use and was able to make me look beautiful without changing my appearance drastically! Both the hair and makeup lasted all day from 9am to when I finally got back to my hotel room at 1 am.
I loved her work and her assistant Kyle did quick and amazing work on my bridesmaid's hair! She also rented out a gorgeous hair piece to me at a small fee (extra bonus to not have to pay for another thing). Absolutely loved everything!Drake Artistry Collective's reply:

Crystal was so easy and flexible. She offered me extra trials to perfect my wedding look (at no additional charge!). She was very easy to get a hold of and happy to work with me to figure out exactly what I needed. We had a large group (10 bridesmaids) and Crystal made sure we had enough artists to cover everyone quickly and beautifully! I will definitely recommend her in the future. -

I had such an awesome experience with Crystal and her team! Starting from the very beginning, she is very professional and has her stuff down on lock. Her website is awesome and lets you provide enough detail to be confident that your hair/make up trial and wedding day will be great. My bridesmaids and Mom also felt really comfortable with her and her team. They were not used to getting their makeup done but Crystal made sure they looked awesome and comfortable. I am so satisfied how the hair and make up turned out. I would definitely pick Crystal again for future events. -

Hair and Makeup Artist Saves the Day
My husband and I hired Crystal and her team to do hair and makeup for our wedding. One thing I really looked for in an artist is a diverse portfolio, as I am a POC. Looking through Crystal’s work, I instantly knew that she had the experience and technique to work with anyone. The services we booked were: Hair and makeup for Bride and MOH, Hair for Groom, and Hair change for Bride and Groom at reception. I was impressed with everything, but mostly how Crystal was able to tame my husband’s long hair. It was his dream to wear his hair down for our wedding and even in the middle of July, hot n’ humid Michigan, his hair was frizz free. The whole morning getting ready was as relaxed as could be, and it really set the tone for the whole day. She also SAVED THE DAY when the zipper on my dress broke. Crystal was quick to react and sewed me into my dress using weave thread! She was over prepared and that’s exactly what you want when looking for a H&MU artist. I initially was looking for make-up artists that wouldn't break my wedding budget, and chose Crystal because not only were her prices reasonable that allowed me to cover the services for 2 moms and 2 wedding party attendants (and no minimum service cost!), but also she was experienced with Asian hair and makeup, which can look too overdone or orange-y due to the undertones. I appreciate that she has two local sites that I could do a trial in - Troy and Taylor - and was very flexible to schedule with and discuss my plans; even when I decided to do a second hairstyle, she added on a second hair trial for no cost. She listened to my desires (natural-ish look with a strong lip color) and worries (ie have oily skin, esp eye lids, hair needs volume but loses it in the heat) and created a great look during the trials that I was able to see how to the hair and makeup held throughout the day - I told her some of my thoughts, then she perfected it the day-of!! Communication was great throughout the entire planning period - which is such a relief considering all that was being put together! The Day-of, she and her team came on time to our hotel site at 6 AM and we actually ended earlier than expected with our timeline and even squeezed in an additional service for my mom, much appreciated! She got one hair style completed as planned for the AM cultural ceremony and I retained her to be with me for a few hours for touch up and hair re-style for my PM ceremony, and all went smoothly and both were such a beautiful look! I appreciated her experience, which is helpful for an indecisive bride as I was, and her sense of humor and of course, her skills. She even provided a bridal gift bag with lipstick and a thank you gift afterwards....Thank you Crystal!Drake Artistry Collective's reply:

Crystal and her team are absolutely amazing. The experience I had was phenomenal from start to finish.
They genuinely believe in helping you look your best without changing the way you actually look. The makeup is natural looking and feels light on your skin - the finished product has such a "WOW" factor and stayed on all night.
I absolutely loved how honest Crystal was - she was very open to my ideas on how I wanted my makeup done and offered great suggestions that would take me from a potential corpse bride look-a-like to glowing goddess.
The customization based on beauty needs and wedding party size was key and having access to the invoice where I could easily make monthly payments made everything so easy. If I have any makeup needs in the future I absolutely know who I'm calling!Drake Artistry Collective's reply:

Crystal was absolutely fabulous to work with. From the time I contacted her, she was responsive and professional. Her 'getting to know you' process was easy, and she achieved the look I wanted for my special day. I chose to do a trial, and it was awesome. It set my mind at ease that she fully understood what I wanted and that everything would hold up well. On my wedding day, she and her team arrived on time and had my Mom and Bridesmaids looking stunning in plenty of time for our pre-wedding photos. Crystal focused on me and I couldn't have been happier with the way it all turned out. She gave me a touch up kit to get me through the evening, but honestly (other than a little lipstick) I didn't need it. I never got shiny, mascara never ran and my hair stayed in place perfectly. Amazing Experience SO helpful
Let me start this off by saying that my wedding was WHIRLWIND of a day. It was 100 degrees the limo had no air, my regular makeup artist didn’t show up until two hours after schedule. Crystal was doing my tattoo coverup, she got to my house before expected (which was already like 7 in the morning). She dealt with my insane emotions over not knowing what was going on with my makeup artist, Crammed Into my tiny apartment with all my bridesmaids and two hairdressers. In the midst of all this she managed to pull off the most FLAWLESS tattoo coverup ever, I have a big tattoo across my shoulder, and was wearing a strapless dress. This thing stayed covered through the next day with NO indication there was makeup on it at all AND it was 100 degrees (literally). Crystal was already booked to do someone else later in the day but offered to help me not have a wedding nightmare by doing my face makeup too (luckily my hired mua showed up... eventually). I am eternally grateful for the incredible job she did and will return to her for any future events hands down. Thank You Crystal! The most amazing experience!!! Crystal is so personable, professional and down to earth. Her and her team gave me and my bridesmaids the best experience ever while getting ready for my wedding. Christine Sent on 07/15/2018Okay brides, your wedding day is the one day you HAVE to look fire. When Crystal was doing my trial, I told her that if my entire wedding goes up in flames, at least I'll look good (and I meant it - she made me look REALLY good). Crystal is awesome and you can close all 30 tabs you have open right now of other make-up artists/studios you're considering (yeah, we all know how wedding planning goes lol).
I hired Crystal and her team for hair and make-up for me and my five bridesmaids. I had a 10AM wedding so the start time was 6AM. I was so impressed when her team got to the church EARLY and was ready to go by the time we arrived at 6AM. Honestly, I thought I was going to be an anxious hot mess the morning of my wedding but her presence was so fun and calm that I actually felt relaxed the hours leading up to the grand entrance. Crystal had made a detailed timeline of the rotation of me and my bridesmaids getting hair and make-up done so the whole process was very smooth and professional. All of my bridesmaids and I don't usually wear make-up or do the fancy hair so we were glad Crystal and her team knew how to make each of us look good. They even took into consideration what the bridesmaid's dresses looked like (since they were not matching dresses) when doing my bridesmaids hair. Oh also I had many times when I ugly cried during the wedding and none of the make-up ran! Woohoo!
Crystal is also freakishly organized and made the whole process of payment and signing documents really easy. She is seriously the best at making you look your best.Drake Artistry Collective's reply:

She, and two assistants, did hair and makeup for myself and my 5 bridesmaids as well as the mothers of bride and groom. She requested pictures beforehand of styles so she would know all the tools she needed ahead of time and when we got a little off schedule and had to improvise a styling station in the house, she accommodated us amazingly! I was so happy with how my hair and makeup turned out, she made me feel beautiful and everything lasted well into the night! I highly recommend!

Responded quickly to all my emails, listened and understood everything that I wanted and all of my bridesmaids wanted to take her home with them lol and Ryan who did our hair for the wedding party was great! Christie Sent on 12/16/2017Crystal was more than I originally budgeted for hair and makeup, but I think she was worth every dollar. I found her portfolio very professional and as an East Asian woman, I was specifically looking for someone whose portfolio demonstrated an ability to work on people with my features, which Crystal's did.
She is very thorough, which made me feel more secure after I'd paid my deposit. The questionnaire on her website asks for examples of what you like and want to try, and she refers to the examples you provide while she works on you. I didn't expect her to replicate what I wanted exactly, because I know that random pictures cherry picked from the internet can be unrealistic to expect, but Crystal did a fantastic job and her work is as good as the images I asked her to replicate.
She tries her very hardest to deliver what you expect. On my wedding day she did not have a piece of her airbrush equipment that had gone missing the night before through no fault of her own. In between doing my makeup and hair she was contacting everyone she knew to get a replacement ASAP because she knew the airbrush was what I preferred. She pulled through despite the unexpected snag. The day would have gone on regardless, but I am so appreciative that she went through the hassle of getting me what I wanted. That is exceptional service!
Her makeup stayed put through several hours of outdoor photography on a hot summer afternoon, and then through the rest of the night. The airbrushed foundation looked so natural, felt incredibly light, and held up to a lot of sweating!

She was willing to travel to my location on my wedding day, which was really important to me because our venue was pretty far from any salons. I was really happy with the investment I made with Crystal. She made me feel more beautiful than I ever have in my life. After my trial with her, I had no doubt in my mind that she would do an incredible job. She really knocked it out of the park. She took her time and even gave me a little kit to have with me during the day for touch ups. Book her and don't look back. She's the best I've found and does both hair and makeup exceptionally well. She did my hair and make-up for engagement photos, an extra hair trial and her and Kyle (Who was equally as awesome) did hair and make-up the day of the wedding for our Moms, Flower Girls, Bridesmaids and Junior Bridesmaid. She felt more like a friend every time we spoke or saw each other and I felt so comfortable having her there the morning of the wedding because I knew she would get everything done on time with a professional and fun attitude.
Everyone looked so great and was asking how I knew her and how they could get her for upcoming events that they have =) She never made me feel ridiculous when I asked questions and made sure my ever watering eyes wouldn't ruin the masterpiece she was making of my face. Kimberly Sent on 08/30/2016I booked Crystal for my wedding about a month out because I'm the most last minute person in the world. She got back to me very quickly and booking was very easy. I really like the client site and the questionnaire I filled out because it really made me feel like she was committed to being prepared and getting to know my wishes right away. Her website was very thorough and I truly felt like I hired a professional from the very beginning. At my hair and makeup trial she had an assistant whom she was mentoring and was talking her through everything she was doing to my face and hair and why she was doing it. We discussed the inspiration photos I sent her for hair and makeup and she also requested photos of my dress and accessories to help create a cohesive overall look. I love that we were able to collaborate and she helped me understand what would look best with my skin tone and hair type (Olive skin and dark dark brown hair). I wanted this long fishtail side braid, which required hair padding and extensions and not only did she make it happen. It was gorgeous. She made me look beautiful and I could not be more thrilled with everything she did. She also did hair and makeup for my mom and sister. She asked questions about their hair and skin and requested inspiration photos for them as well. She truly cares about all her clients not just "the bride" and I loved that my mom and sister were taken care of and not seen as an afterthought. I have been in weddings before where the bridal party was rushed through to get to the bride and this was not like that at all. You are in great hands with Crystal.
