Highly Recommend!!!

Julie absolutely nailed it! I’ve mostly known Julie for her incredible music at festivals and NYC parties, but she brought the perfect blend of Brooklyn dance-party energy and polished wedding flair to our reception and cocktail hour. She also helped us curate an amazing niche playlist for our ceremony.

I can’t express enough gratitude for how on top of things Julie was from the very beginning of our chats. She guided me through the entire schedule, ensuring everything flowed seamlessly, and even double-checked that all names were pronounced correctly.

It was an early daytime wedding and I was afraid that would mean people would be more timid on the dance floor. Not the case! Julie had everyone—young, old, and everyone in between—on the dance floor. And her new speakers sounded amazing!

DJ Shakey rocks!

DJ Shakey was one of the first vendors we booked for our wedding. From the very beginning, she was exceptionally helpful, communicative, professional, and fun! Our venue had a tricky sound system and layout, and DJ Shakey worked directly with the venue's sound person to figure out a solution that worked beautifully for music and toasts. She also helped us to plan for the parent-child dances and hora, drawing on her deep knowledge and experience to provide tips that we would never have known (ex. How long *is* too long for a parent-child dance?). And then, on the day of, DJ Shakey crushed it, nailing the vibe from cocktail hour to witching hour. Can't recommend enough. 5 stars!

Wedding spectacular

DJ Shakey really made our wedding great. it was so humid that the venue had to take up the dance floor but DJ Shakey got everyone dancing anyway and spared no expense with the sound system. We truly appreciate her professionalism and she made everything easy from start to finish. If we could give her 7 stars we would! Hire her!

Awesome Vinyl DJ

DJ Shakey was great! She played our welcome party. We specifically wanted a vinyl DJ and she did such an amazing job! We worked closely together to determine our song tastes ahead of time and she did a lot of pre-work to make sure she had the vinyl records that we wanted! DJ Shakey set the tone for the evening and our guests had a great time. Thank you DJ Shakey!

The Wedding DJ you absolutely NEED!

Choosing DJ Shakey was one of the best decisions for our wedding! I've known of Julie and her epic background in the NYC music scene for some time and what she delivered was nothing short of amazing! She took our eclectic music tastes/requests and fashioned an amazing journey throughout every part of our wedding celebration--from arrival, ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing! Our wedding audience are very much into music with a range of genre's and eras--from Edith Piaf, to Black Sabbath, Dua Lipa, and Drum n Bass/electronic tracks. Julie was able to cater to everyone while also reading the crowd on the fly and being flexible with changing logistics and requests. All of our guests mentioned that she did an incredible job and they particularly loved the music she played. DJ Shakey is the BEST!

DJ Shakey was incredible to work with from start to finish. She really was a wizard in terms of blending our different styles of music, and kept the dance floor lively all night. If you're thinking about booking her, DO IT!!! Our wedding was amazing and we would book her again anytime!

Hired Dj Shakey for my wedding after years of attending events when Dj Shakey performed

I’ve known Dj Shakey for years and have attended numerous events with Dj Shakey on the lineup or solo. When it came it my own wedding, it was a no brainer for me to hire her, not only for our shared music sensibilities but Also for her 1) experience as a wedding Dj 2) professionalism and responsiveness and 3) incredible music versatility. While I may like a specific genre a lot, Dj Shakey helped balance the wedding playlist flawlessly so that everyone had a great time. She was thoughtful about the details for venue considerations and gave a lot of guidance on that as well.

Flawless execution, then rocked it on the dance floor

I always loved DJ Shakey, and she didn't disappoint at our wedding! Our pre-wedding discussions on what we wanted were very clear and straightforward. She did everything right with the processional, recessional, announcing speeches, etc. And then completely rocked it on the dance floor; quite a few of our guests complimented us on our DJ choice

Whole Lotta Love!

I cannot thank DJ Shakey enough for all her hard work and positive energy throughout the process of pulling off our beautiful, but complex, international wedding. I’ve been a fan of hers in the underground music scene for many years but never had the pleasure to appreciate her DJ work from the perspective of a wedding client until now. Seeing her take a ridiculously hodgepodge collection of requests and turn them into a coherent (and frankly awesome) soundtrack to get married to, AND expertly deal with all the hassles that go along with the general role of wedding-DJ, I now have a much greater appreciation for her deep musical knowledge, skill, and wisdom. I heard so much of what I adore about all of Shakey’s music (the desire to rock a dance floor, educate some ears, and to share a bit of her loveable musical identity) in all the mixes she did for our wedding. Shakey Made the Night

We've known Shakey as a party DJ for years, and so when we decided that a typical wedding DJ just wasn't going to cut it, we knew exactly who to call. She is a true master. So many of our guests told us how blown away they were by the music and the dancefloor energy. One couple that we invited hired her on the spot to play their wedding. DJ Shakey Rocks!

Julie AKA DJ Shakey performed at my now sister-in-law's wedding back in 2009 and was tremendous and my now wife and I knew when planning our wedding she was the first vendor we needed to book. She was both professional and thorough along with laid-back and encouraging of what music we envisioned for the day.

Moreover, she worked great with our other vendors - the venue especially - to figure out sound solutions. Day of went perfectly from the ceremony and cocktail hour to microphones for the speeches and extra hour of music to cut loose.

Ultimately, we couldn't have asked for a better DJ for our wedding and we are excited to have been the first wedding DJ Shakey managed that included the Minutemen and Three 6 Mafia in the setlist. We wholeheartedly recommend her for your special day. Thanks again, Julie!

Shakey knows how to get things shaking

I have known DJ Shakey for some time. She is a veteran DJ in the NYC underground scene. I hired Shakey to DJ my wedding in up-state NY. She arrived on time and proceeded to play exactly the tunes we wanted to hear for the first part of the set. For the second part of the set, she let loose with the kind of beats that got things moving, including a somewhat reserved retired federal magistrate that found her way to the dance floor. I can wholeheartedly recommend DJ Shakey for your wedding. Whether you prefer the classics or cutting edge EDM from the underground, Shakey has what you are looking for.

Amazing all around! Book ASAP

Julie / DJ Shakey had our wedding party on the dance floor all night.! She was extremely responsive from the first moment of outreach and a true professional. We had a few calls leading up to the party discussing run of show and some of our thoughts on music. Everything went off without a hitch as she would be right on cue timing wise for everything we spoke about.

DJ Shakey delivered from the first dance to the Mr. Brightside closer! She even put together a few custom mash ups based on the varied taste of my wife and I. Everyone could not stop raving about the music. We could barely find anyone with pictures and videos of the evening since everyone was breaking it down.

I could not recommend her enough for your future wedding, bar/bat mitzvah or casual party!

Julie was one of the first vendors we booked for our wedding. From our initial phone conversation, we really liked Julie's vibe: low-key, kind, calm, flexible, reliable, etc etc. This was so helpful, particularly planning a wedding during the rise of the Omicron variant. (Also, we are from NJ and were wary of the super-macho, cheesy, Jersey Shore wedding DJ--but she's not like that at all). We are so grateful and happy we found DJ Shakey, she was absolutely amazing at our wedding. We were looking for someone who wasn’t your classic “wedding DJ”, and Julie was exactly that. She was so easy to work with leading up to the date, and took the time to make sure she understood what we were looking for. We had some special requests for Israeli music which she was totally open to and did an amazing job incorporating throughout the night at the wedding. We were recommended DJ Shakey (Julie) after our DJ realized she had double booked herself just a month before our wedding date. We are SO grateful that Julie was able to step in at the last minute and drive up to the boonies from New York, first of all because we needed a DJ, and secondly (and more importantly) because she did an awesome job, was really thoughtful about making sure she was putting together a good play list for us, and was really communicative. So so many compliments from our guests on her music choices and mixes, and she is a really chill and cool person to boot :) Highly recommend!

Julie (DJ Shakey) is a consummate professional. She is extremely responsive and incredibly easy to talk to. Julie is an expert at what she does yet she doesn't have ego. She also goes the extra mile: my venue wasn't being responsive or helpful. Julie offered to reach out to them directly and delicately (and persistently) communicated with them until they were able to supply the information she needed. She is personable; talking to her feels like talking to a friend. It's no surprise that she is respected member of the DJ community. We'd recommend her in a heartbeat.

Shakey rocked the party!

DJ Shakey did a really amazing job at our wedding. In addition to playing an awesome selection of songs, she handled a lot of logistics like coordinating different songs during our ceremony, setting up speakers in multiple locations, and introducing the speeches. When the dance party started DJ Shakey really rocked it and people went wild (there was line dancing, a mosh pit, and crowd surfing, but if you want something more peaceful we're sure she can deliver that too). Shakey is really easy to work with, super nice, and very professional - we definitely recommend her for your wedding!

Perfect Collection of Music We Loved and Could Dance to!

We met DJ Shakey at another friend’s wedding two years ago and knew we had to have her at our wedding! She took the time to discuss the schedule of the night with me and made sure all our favorite songs were played. My guests and I danced ALL night and had the BEST time on the dance floor. Shakey was an absolute dream to work with. I've danced to her DJ sets many times and knew she had a reputation as a top shelf wedding DJ. When time came for me to find a wedding DJ she was the first person I reached out to. Shakey not only made it incredibly easy to articulate our musical vision for the reception, she also thoughtfully educated us on what works best, musically, for a wedding like ours. Hard to put a value on the confidence that came from knowing that we were working with someone who has thousands of hours of experience doing something so important as setting the vibe for our wedding.

In the above and beyond category: she also rented us the DJ equipment and soundsystem, set everything up and coordinated with 2 other DJs we also had to make sure that the night flowed smoothly. And it really did. First dance was perfect, the hora was beautiful chaos, and the dance party afterwards had all 3 generations from both of our families shaking it on the floor. I really couldn't be happier with how the music turned out. I'm also not surprised at all, because I knew from the start that Shakey was a true master.

DJ Shakey is an absolute force!!

It was super awesome to have a DJ with such a broad range of music that could find a balance between our eclectic taste and music for a good portion of our guests who are more top-40 centric. A few months before the wedding, she sent us an extensive list of music styles, bands, and wedding/party standards to choose from. She consulted with us after, making sure we had enough sit-down and dance options for her to work with. She did such an incredible job with what we gave her, as well as accommodating the requests of our guests. And, to top it all off, she worked in a MISFITS song, which myself, so many of my guests, and photographer, were super surprised by and excited to dance to.

She was also super flexible, as we were still uncertain the day of where to fit the first dance, and was able to accommodate the change in schedule. There was an issue with the volume of her microphone, though it may have been because of the sound system in the venue. It made some of the transitions (first dance to reception, cake cutting, etc.) confusing, but we were able to work with it, and she remained totally calm throughout.

DJ Shakey is a gem. She has an encyclopedic knowledge of music, and is really excellent at integrating your personal taste with songs that keep your guests happy. We gave her a list of about 8 or 10 "must plays" and about 25 other suggested songs so that she could get a sense of what we liked -- she played many of the songs we suggested, blended them perfectly with her own selections, and kept the dance floor packed all night. She is also super chill -- she made a few bare bones announcements, but otherwise let the music speak for itself, which is exactly what we wanted.

Julie is awesome! From the start she told us her goal is to get everyone up dancing and having a good time, and she totally mastered it! She started with a music worksheet where we defined what genres and bands we like and don't like, and she went from there. She is able to read the mood and the vibe of the party and to really make the music fit and enhance the event.

We were referred to her through a friend who was at a wedding where she DJ'ed and are so happy we were able to get her for ours! She is a lot of fun, knowledgeable, professional, responsive, and overall fantastic. 100% recommend

DJ Shakey is incredible. She is very easy going, and happy to work with whatever playlist you give her. On top of that, she plays a great set and will have your guests dancing all night long.

DJ Shakey is absolutely deserving of her Top Rated status. She's professional, buttoned up and easy to work with.

She DJed our entire wedding: the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, dancing and the after party. The music was flawless throughout.

Julie's great about getting to know your music tastes and putting together a perfect song list for the party. Her extensive music guidelines worksheet is a perfect starting point for anyone concerned about identifying their own taste (which can be overwhelming for many people!). We also shared a few sample Spotify playlists with her to illustrate what we often play at parties and what our guests are interested in. From there, she put together a seamless setlist for the whole event. She even took into account many of our guest's requests during the party.

We're both in our late twenties and had a large-ish wedding with 165 guests of a wide range of ages. Julie's music catered to all of them without resorting to 'just standard wedding fair', which was fantastic. Our tastes are varied: 90s pop, Pitchfork style Indie, Mid 2000s hip hop, classic rock, etc. She played everything from Kanye to the Beach Boys without missing a beat. The dance floor was full all night, even after we extended the part another 90 minutes beyond the scheduled end time.

We couldn't have been happier with DJ Shakey playing our wedding. She's top notch. If you've been hunting for a DJ that'll handle your musical taste or someone to get the dance floor bumping, you've found her.

Music was super important to my partner and I, and we researched a lot of bands and DJs before making a decision. Based on reading the stellar reviews about Julie, we felt pretty confident that we'd made a good choice. We knew we didn't want the cheesy top 40 wedding DJ or an emcee announcing us, and she understood that perfectly. Plus, her services are so reasonably priced, especially compared to some of the other folks we reached out to. Even other DJs we had contacted told us we absolutely had to go with Julie if she was available (essentially praising the "competition" over themselves), so, more positive affirmation. It was straightforward to book with her, and leading up to the day, she was very easy to reach. We ended up giving her a ridiculous list of songs and genres that we liked, which she used as a guide. As an additional complication, we had hired a band to play outside earlier in the evening, so she worked with them to create a seamless transition so there was always music playing. When it came time to the move the party indoors and dance, she straight killed it. It was exactly what we were hoping to achieve - a sweaty dance party with friends and family who didn't want to leave the dance floor (and were actually chanting, "one more song! ten more songs!" when she finished up). The owner of the B&B where the wedding took place didn't even want it to end and asked her to play longer, which she happily obliged. If it's not already apparent, we could not have been more happy with our decision to hire DJ Shakey. She is brilliant! Thanks so much for making our event an incredible and memorable party.

DJ Shakey (Julie) recently DJ'd our wedding at the Housing Works Bookstore Cafe and she was AMAZING! So easy and fun to work with. She seamlessly included the handful of songs we requested and developed an incredible playlist with a huge variety of music. DJ Shakey was awesome! She did an amazing job DJ'ing our Halloween wedding. She played everything we wanted, came up with lots of great songs on her own, and got into the Halloween spirit (she had a great astronaut costume). You can tell that DJ Shakey is a super-legit Brooklyn music person (she DJs at all kind of hip events including Burning Man, owns a personal collection of thousands of vinyl records, hosts a month record swap meet, even appeared in the video for Big Freedia's "Excuse" which blew my mind). She's the farthest thing away from your conventional boring and/or corny wedding DJ (without being any less competent or responsible) and we love her for it!

I hired DJ Shakey for our NYC wedding reception in December. She was so easy to work with and did an incredible job getting everyone dancing at our reception! Everyone loved her! From setting up a special mic for the ceremony to picking a perfect last song from our playlist to a lightning fast response time in the planning process and stunningly careful review of the songs we picked, D. If you want the best dance party of your life, DJ Shakey will give it to you! This part of our wedding was the most important to us and we're so thrilled that we worked with her. My husband and I both love music and had a lot of specific ideas in mind for what we wanted played - concentrated mostly on oldies and 80s pop. She completely accommodated our every wish. She was also a real joy to work with along the way; we had a great time chatting with her. Her love for music shines through and she is so knowledgable about it and can pull off any genre or theme you can think of. Julie also helped us deal with any sound system needs with our venue which was extremely helpful. Our guests - young and older - were all really pleased with her choices. We hope to attend another party with DJ Shakey in the near future!

DJ Shakey really made our reception a party! Our guests were really engaged and on the dance floor! Even my mom was out busting a move. From dance circles to conga lines that looped around the entire venue (beyond dance floor), our guests were feeling the music and told us what an amazing time they had ("best wedding ever!").

Julie was awesome to work with from start to finish, from engaging us and working in our songs (from some pop faves, to Nigerian and Ukrainian music for our respective heritages). She also worked with us to arrange for our entrance dances and made some ad hoc adjustments when we realized a few forgotten details day-of. Highly recommend her!

DJ Shakey is awesome. We wanted a full on dance party at our wedding, and we shopped around a bit for DJs, only to find a lot of commercial companies. Shakey is a one-woman show, was great at feeling the vibe of our party, and did a great job of satisfying all the various age groups. Everyone had so much fun! DJ Shakey did such a great job at my sister's wedding after party last year that I asked her to do my own! She was extremely easy to coordinate with and very responsive. She provided a music worklist, allowing you to request songs and artists, which she stuck to during the after party. She had everyone dancing until the last song!

Julie was super professional. Playing to a variety of age ranges and tastes, she was able to pack the dance floor almost immediately and was able to keep people there. Julie was accommodating to guests' requests without derailing the overall inclusive and banging vibe she established. She instructed the crowd to join in after the first dance had reached it's emotional peak and at created an unexpected moment where my wife and i looked up and were surrounded by loved ones. BEST. DJ. EVER.

My husband and I have very eclectic and non-mainstream tastes in music and pretty much despise modern dance/pop music, so we were wondering exactly how this whole process would go. We know we wanted an awesome dance party with music that people knew and would dance to, but didn't want to resort to the stuff we didn't like. PLUS, it was on a farm, so we really wanted to keep a laid back, Americana folk kind of vibe during the cocktail hour and dinner, so I knew our DJ really had to be comfortable with more than the mainstream playlists. I knew DJ Shakey because she had spun at a bunch of parties for my roller derby league, played great eclectic music and was always able to keep people dancing until the wee hours.

When it was time to make a song list, she sent us a 4 page list of bands/songs and asked us to highlight a sampling of the kinds of music we liked... and our choices were all over the place. We had reggae, Motown, Parliament, bluegrass/folk, The Rolling Stones, Price, T-Rex, RUN DMC, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Led Zeppelin, Loretta Lynn. Seriously. All over the place. I was waiting for a phone call from her telling me that we'd have to mainstream a bit if I wanted it to be coherent, but the opposite happened! She called to check in a few days before the wedding, and told me how excited she was to work with such a unique mix of music, and that it wasn't often that people veered this way. Phew.

And the night was STELLAR. She played all the random music we had picked and put it together FLAWLESSLY. I don't think anybody (young or old) left the dance floor, including my 90 year old grandmother! She was also very accommodating in setting up more than one set of speakers for the different locations on the farm.

Accommodating, super friendly, professional, very reasonably $, and she even got in the photo booth! :) I still have people asking me who the amazing DJ was and that it was the best wedding they'd ever been to.

A friend recommended Julie to us after attending a wedding that she DJed, which she said was an awesome all-night dance party - exactly what we were looking for. We met with her, and we definitely felt like she got what we were looking for. We've been to bad weddings with really cheesy DJs who are constantly talking to the crowd and out on the dance floor, and we wanted the opposite of that. Julie was super professional, made the few announcements that we asked her to make and just let the music flow. She did a great job switching between low-key dining music and the dance sets. We didn't give her much specific guidance - we named some artists and songs we wanted, but I basically told her that I wanted people to keep getting up and saying "I love this song!" and that's exactly what happened. She was responsive to my emails, including my last-minute ones. She also did special edits of our first dance/parent dance songs on my request, which was awesome. She had our must-play and must-not-play lists, and I know at least one of our guests tried to get her to play a must-not-play song and she held out for us. Everyone was out on the floor and didn't leave because the next song she would play would be just as great as the last. We even had several dance-offs! I definitely recommend her completely.

Julie was an amazing DJ. I had originally booked her for our September wedding but had to move the date up 3 months at the last minute. She was totally understanding and also happened to be free for the new June date. Even though I never met Julie until the actual wedding, communication with her was seamless. She completely understood everyone's tastes in music - which was tricky considering the guests ranged from 1 - 90 years old and were a mix of Indian, Pakistani, and American. Her transitions from Bollywood music to popular dance music to the Beatles and Frank Sinatra were awesome. All the guests loved her. Julie was even super accommodating with my extremely last minute requests (as in a few hours before the wedding) when it came to introducing people, speakers, etc. For the cocktail hour, I sent Julie some youtube clips of what I was looking for and she quickly understood the vibe and downloaded even better songs than what I suggested. I definitely definitely definitely recommend her!

Working with DJ Shakey was a great experience. We were married in a private home, and the owner was understandably concerned about having quality vendors in her home and also late-night noise affecting the neighbors. DJ Shakey quickly took care of our owner's concerns and made the entire process so much easier.

My partner and I didn't want to map out the entire night of music, but with just a few suggestions, DJ Shakey turned out songs that were perfect.

Additionally, DJ Shakey worked well with all the other vendors, and rolled with the flow. In any event, details change, and not a single feather was ruffled. So great.

In closing, my partner and I wanted to work with someone that was talented, professional and level-headed. DJ Shakey is all of those things. I would recommend her for any occasion. She contributed to one awesome wedding.

We hired Julie for our two-hour afterparty and she killed it! We first heard DJ Shakey when she DJed a friend's wedding, and we kept remarking on what an excellent job she did. When we sat down to plan our own wedding, we immediately knew we would like her to DJ. We are a same-sex couple, and got married in a City Hall ceremony with our wedding party following the next day, and DJ Shakey was totally flexible and open to the slightly non-traditional structure of our event. She was very responsive to our email inquiries and always easy and pleasant to talk to as we worked out the details. After sending her a list of artists and songs we liked, we touched base a few days before the wedding to finalize selections, and it was clear that she had thoughtfully reviewed our list in order to best understand our goals and tastes. She asked all the right questions (things we would never have even thought to bring up) and it was clear that she is super organized and experienced. Going into the wedding, it made us feel completely at ease.

At the actual wedding, the music was PERFECT. We arrived and DJ Shakey was all set up and organized, helping establish a great mood during our cocktail hour. The dinner music fit the tone perfectly, and she gladly facilitated things when we switched gears (like having guests seated for dinner, toasts, etc). It was very important to us to have a fun dance party following our dinner, and in this regard, she completely delivered. We'd talked a little bit about intergenerational dynamics, and she put together a playlist that got EVERYONE on the dance floor. As the night wore on and the older folks tired out, she seamlessly transitioned to continue the flow of the night.

DJ Shakey is amazing. She effortlessly responds to changing dynamics, and was integral in shaping the mood of our wedding. It was a pleasure having DJ Shakey DJ our wedding. She was super easy and professional to work with during the prep, and really helped make our party perfect.

Julie was amazing. She edited a song so we could walk in as husband as wife to our FAVORITE part of the song. She smoothly incorporated our random list of "Must Play" songs and nailed the energy of the room- whether the chatting at dinner or tearing up our dance floor, the music was always perfectly appropriate. We were looking for a non-traditional wedding DJ and when we met with Julie, we knew that she would be exactly what we were looking for.

First of all, Julie is extremely professional, organized and responsive. I want to emphasize this because even when a wedding vendor may be talented, they are often missing these essential qualities, which are necessary when planning a wedding that requires so much coordination. I never had to wait for a response to a question or request for longer than a day. She knew exactly how the evening should function and had great suggestions about announcements, order of music genres, etc. Julie arrived at the venue early and there were absolutely no glitches in her execution of cocktail hour and reception music or her announcements throughout the night.

Secondly, we love to dance and it was important that our wedding always had a full dance floor. My family is Russian, and our guests included people from a few generations. It was great to see a wide selection of Russian songs she had in her collection! We provided Julie with a selection of songs we wanted to hear (from her very detailed music document) and let her choose the rest. Julie was successful in keeping everyone on the dance floor the entire time. She was also very respectful of the types of music we did not want to hear. The guests were having such a great time that they had to be told to sit down for their main course! As per our request, she included all types of genres (which she has an unlimited selection of) - everyone had an incredible time! Even friends who never dance were on the dance floor.

Overall, it was a pleasure to work with Julie. I would recommend her to everyone looking for a wedding full of energy, dancing and smiles!

Julie DJ'd the after party of our wedding. She was awesome! The music was perfect. So many people told me that it was amazing. Any time anybody ever asks me about a DJ in the future, I am going to give them Julie's name. Thanks so much!!

For a wedding that had a lot of stress leading up to it, DJ Shakey proved to be the one exception. Throughout the booking process and in the weeks leading up to the event, DJ Shakey was extremely professional and responsive in all of our dealings. When we had issues with the venue regarding spacing, DJ Shakey was more then willing to speak with them directly (on several occasions) in order to make our lives easier.

On the day of the event, the DJ's execution was seamless. She knew just the right mix of music to play in order to keep the party going from start to finish. After the party was over, we received many complements from our guests. Overall, we were extremely pleased with our selection of DJ Shakey for our wedding.

Apparently, it is possible for someone to please every single person on the dance floor! Julie had spent time trying to understand what we would like for our wedding beforehand. She was very professional, sweet and accommodating in order to satisfy everyone from my traditional Greek dad to my rocker friends. Everyone was dancing the entire time!

We booked Julie early on and never regretted it! Her music list is so expansive and was so receptive every step of the way. She kept the party going the ENTIRE night - we could not have asked for a better DJ. Very reasonable rates and she does travel.

DJ Shakey was incredible - she played only music that fit our style, but managed to keep everyone dancing until the end of the party. We couldn't be happier with our choice and we HIGHLY recommend her.

I just hosted my daughter's bridal shower this weekend. She was adamant that she did not want a traditional bridal shower ..rather a bridal shower/dance party. The emphasis was on DANCE PARTY..... and that was exactly what DJ Shakey gave us!
From the 1st conversation I had with Julie until the last song was played.. my experience was nothing short of extraordinary.
Julie spent a great deal of time speaking to us about our music preferences.. She was so professional ,reassuring, and low key. When the day of the shower arrived I knew it was going to be a party to remember ..and it was, thanks to Julie.
Her understated confidence and her ability to "read the room" without drawing attention to herself made our experience amazing!
I can't wait to have another party .. and Ill make sure Shakey is the 1st person I call!

While I was interested in the food being good and place looking nice, my number one priority on wedding day was the music. I met with Shakey well before the wedding and we immediately hit it off, talking about everything from Lady Gaga to Swedish death metal shows. I was feeling good but have to admit that, as the wedding crept up, I got a little nervous. Could she ever pull off what I had pictured in my head?

Well, for anyone questioning whether he/she should go with Shakey, don't. I gave her an extensive list of songs to be played during cocktail hour and dinner and then asked for an epic dance party, with no interruptions, for the last 2.5 hours of the wedding. Not only did she do all of that, but the dancing blew my mind. High school friends who would never dare step out on a dance floor we're swinging their ties in the air. The floor was shaking. The variety was awesome.

At one point I thought maybe I should have Shakey slow it down for the older crowd. As I started to walk over to her to ask for some slow jams, I stopped in my tracks when I saw a dance floor of people 60+ acting like it was a rave. She got on a roll and couldn't be stopped.

Maybe best of all, she managed to fold in Metallica, my favorite band, without sending anyone for a loop. She threw it on at the perfect time and even my mother-in-law (not quite a metal head) was bobbing.

In the end, I felt like my wife and I had the best wedding ever, and I can't begin to explain how much of that is due to Shakey. Now I just need to figure out how to have some other huge event in my life when I need a DJ.

WHAT EXTRAORDINARY TALENT!!! My partner and I came from vastly different backgrounds, he is Irsih/Czech and I am Caribbean of East Indian decent. We were looking for a DJ who would understand and appreciate our ecclectic taste as well as the diverse sociodemographic, ethnic, racial and cultural make of our guests. DJ Shakey exceeded our expectations! When we met with her initially, she already had an incredible collection of songs from various selections, types, decades, and countries. She was sensitive to our audience and keen to their behavior throughout the wedding exoperience. She was the glue that piece the event together to make it a magical experience, playing tunes from big bands to calypso to rap to house music to Indian music and even the unforgetable polka dancing. Her love for what she does and her ability to move with the beat of the audience was unparallel. SHE WAS AN INCREDIBLE SUCCESS!

As I told DJ Shakey, she knows it's a success when my husband dances more than two half songs! Not only did he have fun, but most of our guests commented how on how great the music was and how they enjoyed dancing. The icing on the cake for us is when she played "Wonderwall" at the end of the night, at which point our friends spontaneously formed a circle around us and sang to us...maybe it's one of those you-had-to-be-there moments, but it was really touching and speaks to DJ Shakey's ability to read the crowd and almost psychic-pick the right tune. We will always remember that.

She's friendly, laid back, extremely professional, and a great value. You can tell by her library that she has diverse and eclectic taste in music and she's so willing to work around your preferences. We skipped most traditional reception events (first dances, announcement of bridal party, etc) but I could see she would do those things well if you needed. I can't rave about her enough!

Shakey was an amazing DJ. At first, our families were hesitant to throw a party without live music. They worried that the music would not be responsive to all guests. Shakey's choices of music and willingness to be flexible according to crowd response made our party. Shakey knew how to get and keep the party going and all guests felt included in her musical choices

Shakey is also incredibly easy to work with. Upon meeting the day of, Shakey was easily able to work together with all the vendors, thus creating a fantastic wedding.

We feel so fortunate that she was our DJ and we think she rocks for all types of occasions.

DJ Shakey was pitch-perfect! She is incredibly reasonable given her extensive resume and wonderful reputation in the press and DJ scene. She took care to understand what we wanted, how we envisioned the wedding, and even worked with us on pacing the evening. We had an Art Deco inspired wedding, and we wanted to evoke the 1930s...but we didn't want to sit in that era all night. DJ Shakey transitioned us into contemporary music as seamlessly as possible, and somehow had our young crowd dancing to swing music! There were no cheesy moments, no surprises, and she isn't a "talky" DJ -- unless you specifically ask her to be. She's extremely responsive and easy to talk to. You'll feel like you're in very good hands!

DJ Shakey was awesome to work with! My husband and I are still kind of shocked at how affordable she was.

We met with her based on great reviews on Wedding Wire, and she lived up to the expectations. She was really nice, easy to work with, and is a true professional. She has a great sense of what music to play to keep the crowd happy and on the dance floor.

During dinner she played some light jazz and some mixed other songs as background music. When it was time to dance, she revved things back up very smoothly. She handled announcements (first dance, cake cutting, etc.) well and she was really friendly with my father, who made some requests and hung out with her, chatting for a while.

D.J. Shakey was exactly what we were looking for in a wedding dj: she accommodated all of our requests at thoughtful moments, she kept the crowd dancing the entire night, and she didn't call attention to herself but ran the party very smoothly. I would definitely recommend her skills!

DJ Shakey did a great job at our wedding reception. We had a mixed crowd, half American, half Mexican, with a good dollop of indie music kids, and wanted someone who could please all ears. She seemed to really understand our guests, and several people have commented on what great music she chose. The real winner was "Hang On, Sloopy," in Spanish. What fun to see all of our guests dancing and singing along with whichever lyrics they'd grown up with! She was a total professional but also patient with us amid all the planning madness. We recommend her highly.

DJ Shakey was amazing.
When we were in the planning stages, I was concerned that a DJ would be 'typical', and people would dance minimally. I thought a live band was the only way to create excitement in the room.

We went with DJ Shakey, and I was very happy. She is a master at her craft. People got up to dance for one song, and they never left the dance floor. My photographer was going to leave at a pre-arranged time, and decided to stay because there was so much fun happening on the dance floor that she wanted to capture.

I don't know how she fit in our favorite songs, but she did. We did not want an out of control DJ on a microphone. She announced the items that we needed, and held her audience captive with the amazing music she played. She appealed to all age groups, from my mother to my teenage nieces who kept raving about how cool the music was.

The caterer asked for DJ Shakey's information because he was so impressed with her mixes.

A friend recommended DJ Shakey to us, and I am so glad she did -- and I, without a doubt, will recommend her to others! She was so helpful and on top of things, especially in those last couple of days when we (the couple) were stressing about last-minute details.

As for the music itself -- let's just say the moment when our first dance finished and she immediately segued into "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" by Whitney Houston, I knew it was going to be a perfect night. Her transitions were flawless. The dance floor was full all night, and everyone has been raving to us about how great the music was.

It was a perfect night, accentuated with perfect music from DJ Shakey. (By the way, her prices are extremely reasonable!)

Julie was the best DJ we have ever seen at a wedding (we are so lucky it was ours!), we still have people telling us how amazing she was. Every single song was a favorite and she was able to accomodate a last minute request of a soundtrack to a speech. People did not want to sit down! Also, she was really cool to work with!!

An expert DJ!

Julie aka DJ Shakey is phenomenal. She is not your typical wedding DJ. She has a deep knowledge of music and knows how to read the room. Shakey created the exact vibe we were after for our upstate barn wedding, keeping guests dancing all night long while honoring our particular musical tastes. Everyone noted how it felt more like a nightclub than a standard wedding. If you are looking for an old school DJ with flair and expertise, DJ Shakey is for you. Highly recommend!

Fabulous DJ

DJ Shakey was amazing to work with from start to finish. She had helpful tools for us to think through the kind of music we wanted at various parts of our wedding, and her input was invaluable. She was also really helpful in thinking through some logistics of the schedule, and the flower of the event. The music was so fun and our dance floor was wild - more than I expected! Huge thanks to her and highly recommend.

Shakey isn't just a great wedding DJ, she's a great DJ. We gave her a huge list of songs and pretty much told her to do whatever she wanted. She did an outstanding job and a lot of our guests complimented her work. I've never danced so much in my life- she kept me on the dance floor for almost five hours straight. I had a blister on my foot and no complaints about it. We couldn't be happier we chose her and we'd recommend her to anyone else who is looking for a great DJ.

DJ Shakey (AKA Julie) was one of the only Dj's we spoke with, after a recommendation from our photographer. Her prices were reasonable, and we loved that she wasn't a cheesey-macarena-party favor kind of DJ. She totally understood what we wanted, and asked us questions about our music that we hadn't even thought of.

By the end of the night, we had our friends and big Italian family in a huge circle singing, "When the Moon Hits Your Eye (That's Amore)." It's one of my favorite memories of the whole day (besides actually getting married), and we owe it's spontaneous wonderfulness all to Julie.

We've had so many guests remark on how our wedding was so fun, and the best dance party. Mission accomplished! Thanks Julie!

Julie has awesome music taste and knowledge (and a huge library). She was understated, professional, and kept the focus on the music and kept the party going strong. She was also responsive, friendly, and on top of all of the little details before the event. Our guests kept complimenting our music selection, and we had to admit we didn't choose almost any of it! Julie was awesome. She helped prod our collective musical memory to figure out what our tastes really were and how the music should go for the evening. She made every guest at the wedding happy with her choices over the course of the evening (from the 76 year old father, to the 8 year old niece). She took requests (where appropriate) and she helped pace the night. She was just awesome to work with. Couldn't have done it without her.

DJ Shakey is a very profession DJ. She handled our wedding entertainment so well, I have guests come to me at the end and said they loved all the songs that were played during our wedding. Our song list was also very diverse and custom-made and DJ Shakey was able to plan them all out so smoothly. Thank you for a wonderful memory.

We had a blast dancing the night away at our wedding thanks to DJ Shakey! She made a great playlist for us that got everyone moving. We had an eclectic mix of music picked out from her survey and she did a good job making everything flow together. Great value and service.

When we booked DJ Shakey, we were psyched- the only vendor we booked with 5 stars across the board. I'm writing this based on my wedding and maybe she was having a bad day. We spoke at great length a few days before my wedding. I made it very clear we wante dance music during the entire wedding, with few slow songs throughout. The first two hours was filled with music that, while we liked it, was not danceable. Half way through she put on the music we wanted but this was after going up to her SEVERAL times and asking for the music. I gave her the schedule which she did not adhere to. She messed up our announcement, our first dance & cake cutting. The day of she seemed very disorganized and many of the guests noticed this. It didn't ruin the night but for the amount of money we paid, I expected to here the music I clearly stated we wanted to here. She was really easy to work with and very nice but she is one of the few parts of my night that I wish I had done differently.
