Five Stars Isn't Enough

We are still hearing from our guests that our “wedding of the century” was the most fun they’ve ever had, and we know that’s largely thanks to DJ Tobler. The dance floor never slowed down and stayed packed the entire night—exactly what we hoped for, and delivered even better than we imagined.

From the start, he was an absolute pleasure to work with. He took the music vibes and selections my husband and I shared and carried the energy perfectly from beginning to end. Everything flowed seamlessly, and he somehow knew exactly what the room needed at every moment.

Completely recommend!

Really enjoyed working with Derek! Good communicator and had a great time with him as our DJ on the day of. Music was exactly what we wanted. He was also very flexible with the rain plan and last minute change due to weather. Definitely recommend!

The best DJ!

Derek was the perfect DJ for our June wedding at Keswick Vineyards. He was prompt in communication, helped to cut/clip songs for dances, gave suggestions for reception music, and made planning easy leading up to our big day. Day of, he ran our ceremony music and mic’ing seamlessly, and kept our dance floor packed and FUN all night long. The best dj

From start to finish, working with Derek was an absolute pleasure! He is hands down the best DJ I have ever worked with. Derek really took the time to understand the vibe we were going for, and more importantly, he respected what we didn't want, which was a huge relief. The dance floor was packed all night long—guests were so into the music that we didn’t even need the fire pit or s'more bar we had set up as a backup! It was clear that Derek knew exactly how to keep the party going. If you're looking for a DJ who listens, knows how to read the room, and makes sure everyone has the time of their lives, Derek is the one!

Look no further!

Derek was part of our wedding dream team last week, and we can't recommend him highly enough! He was super easy to work with throughout the planning process. On the day of our (outdoor) ceremony there were some *brisk* 35mph wind gusts that posed some challenges, but the sound was perfect throughout! Our dance floor was full all night long, and Derek perfectly read the room and kept the good vibes going. Oh and he even was able to beautifully clean up and make usable a youtube karaoke track that my sister-in-law sang to during our ceremony. Seems like there's nothing he can't do! Highly recommend!

Dance Floor Never Empty

DJ Tobler did the music for both our ceremony and reception. He was right on queue for all of the music changes during the ceremony, and the dance floor was never empty during the reception. Hiring DJ Tobler should be a no-brainer for your special day!

The perfect DJ!

Derek was the perfect DJ for our wedding! He was incredibly easy to work with and flexible throughout the entire planning process, taking all of our requests and executing to perfection on the day of the event. He worked very well alongside the rest of our vendors and built a perfect playlist from the directions we provided to him. He was clued into the moments throughout the entire day and the dance floor was packed the entire night! Derek knows how to throw a party!

Derek was our DJ for our 11/5/22 wedding!

He spent a lot of time prior to the wedding editing songs and ensuring he had all the information needed for the day of the wedding. He has a lot of experience and gave helpful suggestions and recommendations for us when choosing songs. On the wedding day, not one name was mispronounced and he was on time for all of the announcements! We even got to dance together during the reception which was super fun and the guests loved it!

If you are looking for a DJ definitely consider Derek! I can't recommend him enough, He is the best!

Best DJ Ever

When Steven and I talked about which vendors to prioritize for our wedding, having a great DJ was our number one priority. We love to dance, and we couldn't wait to bring all our loved ones together on the dance floor. After researching and interviewing many DJ's in the Charlottesville area, Steven and I decided on DJ Tobler, and we could not be happier with our decision!! From the onset, Derek was always extremely timely, kind, and professional in his communications with us. We were able to witness his DJ skills before our wedding at 2 different events, and we were incredibly proud to say he was our chosen wedding DJ. At both events, he brought people of all ages to the floor and took great pride in his job. A few months later, we met again for a dance lesson to help us choreograph our first dance. He was so fun to work with, and we had a dance we absolutely loved by the end of the lesson! He even edited our song to match our moves and incorporated a lift. We met with him again for a combined father-daughter dance, mother-father dance, and final first dance practice lesson, and it went so well! He made us all feel comfortable and have so much fun. We were all confident in our dances by the end of the lesson. The evening before the wedding, I was very stressed to see rain forecasted during our ceremony. I emailed Derek asking if there was any way that he could be a last minute backup music plan for the ceremony in case the string quartet couldn’t play with the rain, and he quickly replied that he would be more than happy to. During the wedding, he clearly took our music tastes and requests into consideration and curated a playlist and energy of our dreams. The mics and sound system functioned flawlessly, and all his announcements were wonderful! The dance floor was full of our loved ones of all ages. To top it all off, he even planned a private dance for Steven and me at the end of the night before our sparkler exit to one of our favorite songs. I give Derek my highest recommendation!

A True Professional

With many factors otherwise out of our control, Derek was the one person we could rely on throughout the wedding process. He was the one true professional we worked with, someone who was responsiveness, insightful, flexible, friendly, and clearly experienced. Not only did he help us choreograph a beautiful first dance (with a lift!) with just two lessons, but he helped execute our special night to perfection. By far and away, he was our favorite person to work with in the Charlottesville area, and aside from all the logistics that he assisted in, he helped make our dance floor ~electric~. Seriously could not recommend any vendor higher than Derek; he is a class of his own in Charlottesville.

Derek is incredible - Hire him!

Derek is amazing! He is calm, confident and such a source of ease on your wedding day. He was there through our many music requests and COVID related wedding changes and we are so grateful for him. We also used Derek for dance lessons for our first dance and we absolutely recommend it to everyone! He is a natural teacher and makes that fear of awkwardly swaying in front of all your guests disappear. Hire him now, you will not regret it!

A Total Pro!

Derek is one of several vendors who we needed to reschedule with once our wedding was pushed back a year due to COVID. Derek was completely understanding and, once we were finally leading up to our big day, was just so easy to work with. Both my (now) husband and I have a musical background so the ceremony and reception playlists were of particular importance to us. Derek listened to our vision, made suggestions where needed, and expertly improvised throughout the reception based on how our guests were engaging on the dancefloor. It was a nonstop party with just enough of our preferences injected into the repertoire. He also coordinated perfectly with our wedding venue (Veritas Vineyard & Winery), videographer (Ian's Creations), and the bluegrass band we had playing during cocktail hour and part of the reception (The Whiskey Rebellion). Derek is a total professional and working with him was an absolute pleasure!

Awesome DJ!!

Derek did such a great job DJing our wedding ceremony and reception! He was really easy to work with and made the experience so seamless. He barely needed any direction and did a great job reading the room. He did a perfect mix of music that was fun for all ages. Derek was absolutely wonderful!!

Derek was wonderful to work with! He is a very talented DJ! Even before we spoke with him, we heard so many great reviews of his work. He is very personable and a really great dance instructor! He came to us in Richmond and taught us how to dance in our first dance. It was SO helpful, and he gave easy directions to follow and practice. 10/10 Wedding Experience

We cannot recommend Derek enough! My husband and I originally had a June 2020 date, but because of COVID, we postponed not just once, but twice. Derek was professional and understanding throughout the process, and never made us feel guilty about our decision to postpone. He was organized and checked in with us periodically to make sure we all were on the same page. Derek provided amplification during our ceremony and worked with our officiant and duo to make sure our guests could hear everything during the ceremony which was just beautiful. From the beginning, we told Derek we wanted a big dance party and he sure delivered! His song choices were a great mix of old and new songs, and it didn’t sound like a playlist that was played at another wedding. He catered it to my husband and me. Thank you Derek for making our day a blast.

Now We Know Why Everyone Loves DJ Tobler!

My husband and I agreed that Derek was, by far, our favorite vendor. He was flexible, professional, and extremely knowledgeable - and that was just leading up to the wedding! Derek let me design as much of the day's music as I wanted and seamlessly filled in whatever gaps remained, based on the vibe I was going for throughout the different phases of the wedding day. Derek provided small, wireless mics for the groom and our officiant to wear during the ceremony and also a microphone stand for those coming up to do a reading. He was fun, but not obtrusive or annoying like a lot of other DJs out there. He even got on the dance floor for part of my favorite dance song to help show guests how to do 'The Wobble'! He also fastidiously adhered to our Do Not Play Or I Will Unplug You list of songs. It's no wonder his actual initials are D.J. Tobler. :)

Perfect for our wedding

Derek knew exactly how to execute the right music for the right crowd on the dance floor. The lighting, the monogram, and his ability to get the crowd on their feet was second to none. Working with Derek before the wedding was a total joy and everything was set before the big day. No worries- all fun! The guests (young and old) gave many compliments. I am long overdue for this review. Derek made our wedding so perfect. We spoke on the phone briefly, sent the songs we wanted for the main events and then let him do his thing. Best DJ in Charlottesville

We found DJ Derek Tobler through our venue & I am so thankful! We unfortunately booked last minute but he was so quick & efficient with all phone calls & emails! I don't have good taste in music, but Derek made a good night of dancing despite it!

Derek is beyond the average wedding DJ. He is truly thoughtful and talented.

He honored an entire Spotify playlist that was mismatched, random, and cliche. Against all odds, he made it fun. Not only that but he creatively used songs that I was interested in to transition people between dances and toasts. I do not necessarily remember every song he played, but I remember thinking, "WOW! What a great time to play this song." (It was a time we were waiting for people to transition in for the father daughter-dance, and he played a Heaven by the Walkmen, which was a request.)

He does not belittle your music requests, but enhances them with his own. He was such a great vendor, and I cannot recommend him enough.

Great Music!

Derek did such a great job with our music for our wedding! We didn't give him much guidance but he was able to read the room and get people dancing. We come from two different cultures and have different music tastes but Derek was able to blend the two together in a way that definitely felt like it was OUR wedding rather than cookie cutter wedding music. He was also able to add uplighting for a very reasonable amount! Thank you Derek!

The best DJ you can find

I'm not sure what else I can say about Derek Tobler that hasn't already been said in all of this 5 star reviews here. Every good thing said about him is absolutely true.

I reached out to Derek to DJ my Oct 2019 wedding, and he was very quick to respond. Right off the bat, he was super chill and friendly. I already felt less stress just by talking to him. We had a call with him a couple of weeks before the wedding so he could get a feel for what kind of music we’d like. We really only gave him the basic answers (first dance song, father daughter song, etc), but he immediately knew what kind of crowd we would have based on our personalities and what not. He handled all of our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception music. He was on point with everything. All the music was on time, and there were absolutely no snags.

The reception was a hit. Seriously, every song was perfect. I say this without any sort of exaggeration, our dance floor was never empty. He kept guests dancing all night. I cannot recommend Derek Tobler enough.

Innovative, fun, professional. Dance floor full all night.

Derek was excellent in every way. He helped us do a silent disco at our venue for the first time, which our guests loved. He choreograph our first dance to a unique song. He made an awesome playlist that kept everyone dancing and that appealed to people with diverse music tastes. He seamlessly emceed, making all announcements and keeping important moments (like speeches and cake-cutting) on schedule. He was also flexible, at one point shifting the order of events to get everyone dancing sooner. And he effortlessly coordinated with other vendors, such as our planner, to ensure he had a minute-by-minute plan for the night. Best of all, Derek gave candid advice whenever we asked for it based on his experience and expertise and was a joy to work with.

Dancing it up All Night!

Derek was our DJ for our June wedding at the Market at Grelen. He did such a wonderful job throughout our wedding day. Derek was easy to talk to about the details leading up to our big day. Our dance floor was full the entire night!!!

People are still talking about our wedding and a big reason is Derek!! He is the best DJ we could’ve hoped for. Derek spent time getting to know us and what we wanted. DJ Tobler was by far one of the best decisions we made for our wedding! He was kind, respectful, professional, punctual, and organized. Amazing DJ

Derek was so great at our wedding - he had the crowd, both young and old, on the dance floor all night and all of our family and friends were raving about how much fun they had for days after the wedding! Derek was a huge player in keeping the evening running smoothly, which we greatly appreciated. Also, even though we had a string quartet during the ceremony, Derek helped out SO much with sound, making sure ourselves and our rabbi were heard by all.

I also wanted to mention that Derek was so easy to work with during the planning process. He listened to all of our requests, cut our first dance song perfectly, and helped us choose the perfect last dance!

Best DJ!!!

DJ Tobler is the BEST!! We are so thankful he was available for our big day. He plays only the best music that keeps the party going. He was so easy to work with, really helpful with song choices, and always very quick to respond. I would highly recommend him for any event. We thoroughly enjoyed working with him and our wedding wouldn't have been the same without him.
He also offers dance lessons, which I HIGHLY recommend. We had a wonderful first dance and our guests couldn't stop talking about it. We are so thankful and happy we did the dance lesson because he taught us how to dance and we now have dance moves that will always remind of us our first dance.

We have only great things to say about Derek. He was phenomenal to work with. From our first meeting, Derek was engaging and offered great suggestions about the playlist. On the day of, he was responsive to last minute changes (including bad weather) and played an amazing set of songs. when you are planning a party, you know that you absolutely want to be sure you have great music to keep the atmosphere energetic and to get people moving, and a wedding reception is no exception. If you are looking for someone who will make sure to play the music you love and balance that with keeping your guests entertained and moving on the dance floor, you need look no further then Derek Tobler! My husband and I cannot say enough good things about his wedding DJ skills! During the booking process and leading up to the wedding, he was very attentive to our wishes and requests and made sure we felt comfortable with his process. We met with him ahead of time, and he was very organized but also very flexible. We had a very specific song list we wanted and he made sure to let us know he would absolutely play those, but also that he could create a great mix based on our music preferences if we wished. So whether you have a very specific song list or would rather have someone do that for you, you are in very good hands! We booked a string trio for our ceremony and cocktail hour, so we only asked for him to do the dinner and dancing, and he was phenomenal! He knew exactly the right moments to introduce people and events and was a fabulous MC, leading people politely and succinctly from entrances, to toasts, to cake cutting and then out to the dance floor for first dance. He also let everyone know when it was last call, when the garter/bouquet toss was going to occur and closed the night with our last song. He brought in all his own equipment, as well as did all the set up and tear down, so it was hassle free for us. We could not have been more pleased with Derek! We highly recommend booking him to any couple hoping to make their wedding a roaring success!

Derek Tobler performed superbly in providing the sound and music for my daughter's wedding. He was so incredibly easy to work with (especially with dealing with rain plans, which required flexibility and speed to respond to changing weather). DJ Tobler worked with us to craft a selection of music that appealed to our tastes and the those of our guests. From #1 singles to obscure B-Side hidden gems, DJ Tobler was able and willing to help find us the right songs for all of our most memorable moments. DJ Tobler kept the party going, made amazing intros for the bridal party, played classic rock; all the while being extremely professional, curtious and helpful. Derek was amazing! We had quite a mix of people in our wedding. We varied ages and varied languages, however Derek was able to get LITERALLY everyone on the dance floor. He was on time, courteous, incredibly attentive with the timing and he made sure the party went on for as long as possible. Derek helped make our wedding the best party ever! I've had so many people tell me during and after the wedding how great the DJ was and how he did such a good job playing songs that got all generations up and moving. Worth every penny, without a doubt - Derek had to set up in two separate areas at King Family Vineyard: (1) outdoor wedding on the lawn, and (2) indoor reception in the hall. In both cases, the sound was clear and flawless - we were worried, based on weddings in other states, that the sound for the outdoor wedding would be a challenge. Instead, it was clear and unobtrusive.

The reception, moreover, went smoothly thanks to Derek's professional guidance throughout. He deftly helped with transitions, toasts, cake cutting, etc - always in the right place with the mic but never the center of attention.

The dancing (and the music, of course) was a HUGE hit. He got a playlist from the bride and groom, and simply let us enjoy the evening. He worked well with the photography team and the wedding coordinators. A real pro, would definitely hire him again.

Derek was the first vendor I booked because I knew I wanted the best. Hiring him was such a good call. Don't hesitate when choosing Derek as your DJ because he was easily one of the best choices we made for our wedding. Leading up the wedding, he was easy to get a hold of and great to work with. He even handled last second changes with complete ease and left me completely worry free the entire day. Derek is the best of the best and you will not be disappointed! I've worked with many DJ's over the years, and been to many weddings with sub-par DJ's trying to emcee the event--not the case with Derek. He's top notch and fun, and kept the pace of our reception moving along. Derek considered our playlist 100% and added extras to keep the party hopping. His equipment is also upscale and did not take over the venue. Added bonus was working with him as an awesome dance teacher and his patient coaching with my new hubby as we learned our first dance! Derek was a true joy to work with. During the planning process he was extremely helpful in helping us figure out what music we wanted to have and met with us in person to figure out a perfect plan. A few days before the wedding he gave us a dance lesson for our first dance. Everyone was super impressed by our dance moves! We were both very excited to show off our moves and after our lessons with him my husband was interested in doing more!

Derek was truly amazing throughout the whole night. He did an awesome job mixing in the oldies and the new songs, just like we wanted and he kept the party going! Both our photographer and videographer said to us that they don't usually see that many people on the dance floor all night long and we know that a large part of that was due to Derek! Everyone kept coming up to us after the wedding to tell us how much they enjoyed the music.

On top of all of that, Derek is just a great person. He is extremely warm and easy to talk to and just overall a very nice guy. Even during the planning process, when other vendors would ask us who we booked for DJ, we would tell them that we had booked Derek and every single one of them said "Oh yes! Derek! He is by far the best! GREAT choice!" This literally happened at least 3-4 times! We HIGHLY recommend Derek as your DJ.

Derek was an absolute delight to work with and he made our wedding so much fun! During our first meeting, we knew within 5 minutes that he was "the one" for us! He was easy to talk to, listened to our requests and gave us lots of options and recommendations. He even offered dance lessons!
We held a few meetings with Derek to discuss our style and requests. We provided him with a basic list of first dance and ceremony selections, along with "must play" songs, and let him take charge of the rest. We had zero reservations about handing over the reigns because he made us feel so confident of his abilities. He was extremely helpful when it came time to make the timeline, giving us ideas on how to keep the party flowing without awkward pauses or down time.
Derek set up both indoor and outdoor equipment, providing us with music and microphones for the ceremony and his setup was pleasant to the eye, not detracting from the look and decor at all. He arrived with plenty of time to meet with our officiant and get things ready to go. His announcements were great and his voice was perfect! Derek kept the party going and we had a GREAT time. Planning my October 2016 Virginia Wedding from Rhode Island wasn't easy. Vendors that were flexible and professional made all the difference. Derek was one of those people. Derek came recommended to us by our officiant (Reverend Gaye Einstein), who is also out of Charlottesville. Derek was such a fantastic DJ for our wedding. When we first met with him we knew right away that we wanted him to do the music for our wedding. DJ Derek Tobler is the best. We got married in August 2014 with an outdoor ceremony. Derek set up the audio for the ceremony and it was crystal clear and did not sound like a bad PA system. Having attended other weddings where this was an issue, we were very thankful. Derek worked with us to give dance lessons and choreograph our first dance, which was perfect. He also added some lighting to the event at a reasonable price. Most importantly DJ Derek Tobler was an amazing emcee and provided great music for the entire evening while we and our guests danced the night away.

Derek did a tremendous job. He helped us construct our playlist beforehand, made suggestions when we did not know what songs were played, let us know what was popular at the time, and what genre of music everyone of all ages would appreciate. On the day of, he performed his MC duties better than we could have imagined. He directed everyone around and made sure the reception didn't miss a beat.

Derek rocked our wedding! His song selection was exactly in line with what we wanted and he was very easy to work with throughout the process. He also didn't miss a beat playing the correct song at the correct time for the various reception events. We got great feedback from our guests after the wedding too. All in all, you can't go wrong with him!!

We could not have been happier that Derek was our DJ for our wedding. He was always responsive, helpful, professional, and was willing to meet with us twice leading up to the wedding in order to talk through details. He provided and set up all equipment, and played beautiful music during our ceremony and cocktail hour, and great party music for the reception that got everyone dancing. We strongly recommend working with Derek!

Derek, hands-down, was the best vendor at our wedding! He was an absolute pleasure to work with! We would recommend him to anyone! He has a wonderful personality and really reads the crowd on the dance floor. He is incredibly fun, organized, and simply AWESOME!!! Derek was absolutely AMAZING!! He was unbelievably professional and everyone was dancing the night away our whole wedding. He provided audio/music for our outdoor ceremony, cocktail hour music, announced the bridal party (pronouncing everything perfectly), and kept the music going the entire reception. He can really read a crowd and knows what would be a great mix for the young and old alike! He even got the party started after we took a large Virginia Tech Hokies picture by playing Enter Sandman knowing that would literally get us all jumping! He also provides dance lessons and I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend them. We had an hour session two nights before our wedding and our first dance looked wonderful all because of him! You must have Derek at your wedding!

Derek did such a great job with the music for our wedding. He was easy to reach by email and phone. He did a great job picking music for the assortment of guests based on a phone conversation and a few "must plays" I gave him. He also gave me an outline of musical selections I should have for the ceremony and reception so I didn't forget any special moments. We danced all night and loved every song he played!

We recently had Derek DJ our ceremony and wedding and he was absolutely perfect. I was a little nervous at first without experiencing him on the job before and meeting for the first time at our wedding but as soon as he started playing the first song, I turned to my friend and said "this guy is good!". He was very professional, played every song that we requested and he really had a feel for the group and what songs to play and when. I couldn't be happier with using him as our DJ. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND.

DJ Tobler is amazing! He was a highlight of our wedding, and all of our friends are still commenting that it was one of the most fun wedding dance parties that they've ever been a part of. He is extremely professional, fun, and flexible, and he catered to our every wish! He made the music flow perfectly, and he made it all seem effortless. Derek was perfect! DJ, emcee, and dance instructor: he does it all. Not only was the dance floor filled all night, but our guests were blown away by our choreographed first dance. He was professional and organized, and a blast to be around. He kept everything moving smoothly from ceremony to last dance. We worked together to come up with a playlist of songs, and Derek made the perfect suggestions and changes to keep all 150 of our guests happy and dancing for hours. We got endless compliments on our party, and much of it was thanks to Derek. I cannot recommend him more highly. He is a must have for any central Virginia wedding!

Derek was awesome. Derek did the music for our ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. Having great music and a giant dance party were really important to us for our wedding. We really liked Derek's style and he was professional and great to work with. We had a very short must-play list and that was about it - he took it from there and everyone had an amazing time. He was also really flexible and was key in a last-minute rearranging of events at our wedding due to weather. Our guests and other vendors have also commented on how great he was. We highly recommend him!

Derek was a pleasure to work with for our wedding at Trump Winery. He made us feel comfortable from the first meeting to the wedding day and we could not have been happier. He didn't say anything cheesy like we have all experienced at someone's wedding and showed professionalism throughout the reception. As Charlottesville was a destination wedding for us, we really relied on reviews for our vendors and they did not steer us wrong with Derek. Book this guy!

DJ Derek Tobler was our DJ for our wedding at Pippin Hill on May 1st 2015. From the first initial meeting to the final song, Derek was professional and helpful throughout. He helped my wife and I think about things to consider that we would have never thought of it if wasn't for him. He was extremely flexible in what songs we wanted to hear, and which ones we didn't in case some crazy Aunt started requesting things we would prefer not to hear. He handled our ceremony, worked with the Bag Piper we hired for right after the ceremony and our videographer as well, and of course he handled the cocktail hour and reception. He knew our venue, all of our vendors, the whole process appeared seamless to us and we're really thankful for that. He was able to take our suggestions and add songs around our style of music. One highlight I still find myself laughing about because I didn't immediately realize it when it was happening was a broken glass incident on the dance floor. As I was helping the staff pick up the broken glass I noticed in the background "Walking on broken glass" was playing, I thought it was the funniest thing, and it even cheered up my buddies date who was rather upset about dropping it. Not a bad song to play at a wedding either so most guests didn't even notice why the song was funny.

All and all my wife and I both would absolutely recommend Derek for any event. If anyone is torn between a band and a DJ, go with Derek for a DJ and take away 1 stressful thing about wedding planning off your plate.

Sorry I have not put this in sooner. The services you provided for Christina and my wedding on October 27th, 2014 was phenomenal. I had briefly spoke to DJ Tobler about what we were expecting the days previously and on the day of the wedding I lost my phone. I was so tied up with pictures and other ceremony obligations I did not have a chance to communicate with anyone on set up. Luckily Derek went above and beyond any expectations I had. The music was on point to what we had asked for. I am still receiving feedback 3 months later on how that was one of the best weddings for our guest to ever attend. Derek you were a major part of our ceremony, and reception and we thank you dearly for making it happen. I am so glad that we chose you to be a part of special day, and you made it even more special by being awesome. I would recommend Derek to anyone and everyone that is need of DJ services. This guy is second to none.

Derek was fantastic. Music was a huge part of our big day and Derek was better than we even could have expected. We had somewhat of an older crowd and he played appropriate music while they wanted to dance, and age appropriate music with our friends toward the end of the night. When people seemed to be vacating the dance floor, he put on songs that drew people back in. He is a phenomenal DJ and we are soooo lucky to have found him.

It is my pleasure to write this review for Derek Tobler, Mobile DJ and Emcee. My husband and I were married at King Family Vineyards this November, and we could not be happier with how our wedding day turned out. Derek is a huge part of what made our day so great.
Derek is very professional but is also a lot of fun to work with. In our first conversations with him, he made us feel comfortable and he really listened to what we wanted for our reception. After meeting him in person, we were even further convinced that we were in good hands. We wanted everyone dancing—and Derek absolutely went above and beyond in making that happen! I can’t believe I was ever even concerned that people wouldn’t dance at the reception. Derek really got a great feel for the crowd and played music that kept everyone on the dance floor all night long. He brought such a fun energy to the evening, and we all had a fantastic time. We loved that he took the time to show our guests the steps to some dances—it was great that everyone could learn and join in! Derek was also a wonderful emcee for the dinner portion of the evening. He made sure he had the pronunciations for all of our family and wedding party member names correct, and he kept everything running smoothly. Everyone knew what was going on at all times and everything was very organized.

Derek was amazing to work with! We told him we wanted a huge party and he delivered! All our guests complimented us on how awesome the DJ was and everyone danced all night! Derek was great! He was so much fun to work with and is a really good and being able to pick music that works for a diverse crowd - which we certainly had! He gave us suggestions that were brilliant and put up with our chaotic and off-beat wedding. Derek is a great balance of being professional but also so much fun with a big personality - but he is definitely NOT one of those sleazy, cheesy DJs. He is the real deal and you would be crazy to not book him for your event.

In coming up with our list of 'most importants' for the wedding my husband and I both agreed that we wanted an epic dance party. Derek was instrumental in making this possible: all of our guests from little cousins to college buddies to parents tore it up on the dance floor!
He was organized, professional and really easy to work with. We appreciated how he made sure to cover the details for us so that we didn't have to stress over them. The ceremony ran flawlessly thanks to Derek's hard prep work. He also nailed our personal style for the cocktail hour and dinner portion of the reception with very little input (stress) on our end. He made sure to get our 'must play' and 'do not play' lists but guests loved how quick he was to play their requests. Luckily, we planned ahead for more time and Derek was a great sport about staying later. Even with an extra hour no one wanted to leave!
Just a few weeks after the reception we are still hearing our guests rave about their time on the dance floor. We got so much more than we bargained for in Derek and would absolutely recommend him to couples in the area!

Derek was wonderful to work with! He had tons of suggestions when we asked for them and he kept the reception running so smoothly! The music was perfect and he filled the dance floor. Prior to the wedding he talked through the schedule of events with us and helped us organize the evening. Derek was Awesome!!! He DJ'd for our September 12 wedding at King Family Vineyards and was a huge hit! Everyone loved all the different kinds of music we requested and he took what we said and turned it into a memorable day and night! He tweaked what needed tweaking and made it work for that time (ceremony, recessional, wedding party entrance, etc.) I would highly recommend booking him as soon as you have your venue selected and your date! He books up quickly so jump on it!

Derek was just incredible and did an awesome job DJ'ing our wedding. Derek made a point to ensure he knew what our vision was and gave us exactly what we wanted on our wedding day. From ensuring everything was set up,perfectly EARLY, to playing our requested playlist to getting on the dance floor to teach various line dance.....he was exceptional. AMAZING! Derek was so fun, outgoing, and was great to work with. He created such an amazing time for our wedding guests. Not to mention, my entrance was flawless and just beautiful! :) It was just perfect. Our guests just loved every moment of our wedding and they just danced the night away! DJ Derek Tobler provided all of the music for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, including microphones and additional sound equipment in all locations. The music was fantastic and we danced the night away. He was willing to add music to his library and was very open to all of our suggestions/wants. DJ Derek is the best! We researched DC/MD/VA-area DJs very carefully because we wanted to ensure our wedding reception would be an absolute blast with a packed dance floor all night. We interviewed a bunch of folks, and even though Derek was a phone interview he still stood out as the best in the bunch. We are so glad that we chose Derek! He was so professional and he really knows his music. He was extremely responsive over email and was available for several phone calls before the wedding and seemed truly invested in getting to know us as a couple and even communicated directly with our parents and bridesmaids (who organized a couple of surprises on the wedding day). Derek was helpful with our wedding timeline too and had great tips for keeping the flow of the event smooth and fun for everyone.

On the wedding day he was totally calm and collected and made us feel like we didn't have to worry about anything and could just enjoy the day. He set up the sound system for our ceremony, which was perfect. He played fun music for cocktail hour and dinner, but not too loud so folks could still talk to each other easily inside the venue. When it was time for cake cutting or toasts etc, Derek navigated smooth transitions -- we knew we were in good hands. Plus we really danced our hearts out to some fantastic music during the reception!! He was able to weave together a fantastic mix of music that appealed to all of our wedding guests -- from funk and motown to 80s/90s and current music. We couldn't have asked for a better wedding DJ!

Derek was one of the very first vendors we booked for our wedding and it was one of the best decisions we made! Derek was so great throughout the whole planning process, super responsive, helpful and fun! Our guests were blown away at the variety of music that he played. He kept the evening running smoothly, we didn't once worry about what was coming next, Derek was all over it! It was hard to see the night end, we could have danced all night thanks to Derek!

DJ Derek is THE BEST! The DJ makes or breaks the wedding (in my view) and Derek turned our day into an event nobody will forget! Derek is friendly, responsive, full of excellent and creative ideas and both old and young danced ALL night to his perfect blend of oldies and modern music! I contacted Derek because he had DJ-ed a friend's wedding and I was blown away! All of our guests, who hailed from Argentina, Brasil, France, Germany, Australia and beyond LOVED HIM!! And beyond the music, Derek was always helpful, always available to talk, a wonderful person to work with!

dj tobler has a very good reputation in charlottesville, and he definitely has earned it. he was a fantastic wedding dj. my mom commented that he was the perfect blend of MC- kept the party going, guided guests thru the evening's events, and didn't talk too much or make corny jokes. :) he was extremely professional and we could tell our guests (of ALL ages- from 3 to 89) loved the music and were out of their seats the entire evening. our families come from pretty diverse backgrounds and the mixture of music represented that without feeling choppy. my husband i met at a latin dance class, and dj tobler even did an impromptu 5-minute merengue class with our guests so everyone could participate- SO FUN!
he also provided our lighting- which was placed around the corners of the reception area to create a soft glow, and also provided us with a monogram that was projected onto the wall behind our sweetheart table, which looked really classy.
our entire experience with derek was incredibly fun, personal, and professional. if he's not already booked for your wedding, book him now! :)

Derek was AWESOME. He was very professional and did a great job not only providing an excellent choice of music for the wedding/reception- but really helped keep the flow of events going smoothly during the reception. He made announcements about each event (first dance, cake cutting, etc.) at appropriate times and was extremely courteous and responsive to the wedding guests- if they had music requests, etc. He had really cool lighting too that really made the mood of the reception perfect!! He did a fantastic job- would recommend him to anyone I know in the Cville area that is getting married :)

I can't say enough good things about Derek. He was so easy to talk to at the beginning of the process and I had heard so many good things that I just couldn't not book him. His setup was discreet and professional and he played the kind of music that we all could enjoy, from age 18 to 85! He found some French artists that we had requested for the reception and our first dance easily and was able to cut them down to a manageable length. We would have loved to have him stay but unfortunately the noise ordinances in the town where we got married say that the loud music has to stop at 11 PM. We set up a playlist for after this time, so Derek very professionally and discreetly took down his equipment and slipped out and left the party going, just like we asked. Really great service all around from a nice and personable guy.
