Deric shot my wedding in November 2015 and I cannot sing his praises enough! He took the time to understand our vision and style, and he helped us put together a thorough shot list for the big day so we were all on the same page. I really love candid, captured moments in wedding photos, but was worried I wouldn't feel comfortable really being open and myself with a photographer right there. Deric made all those worries disappear--he was so easy to be with and he instantly made me feel comfortable. He was the perfect combination of falling into the background to capture everything, and then being right there when I needed him--whether that meant corralling my family or popping up with a plate of food when he noticed I hadn't eaten yet. He's a good person and an incredibly talented photographer--what else could you ask for? I highly recommend Deric! -

Hiring a photographer for my wedding was a very daunting task for me. I'm a very low-key person and not very photogenic, I'm awkward and make funny faces that are not pretty or sexy. Having said that Deric Mendes made me look beautiful, he took some of the best photographs of me of my entire life. My backyard family wedding was beautiful but the pictures make it look like it was done by a professional team of wedding planners. In no way did I have to direct him to take certain pictures of the setting, the rings, the venue, he did all of that intuitively on his own. And he worked with my absolutely no timeline or giving specific direction which I'm grateful for because what I needed was a low-key low stress day and Deric didn't add any stress to my wedding he only relieved it. Now enough about him as a person and how amazing he is, THE PHOTOGRAPHS turned out so amazing I cried buckets, he got every amazing moment, I didn't even realize he was still there taking pictures at the end of the evening. My wedding was magical and Deric caught that on film I don't even know how to thank him for how much my photos mean to me. I couldn't recommend Deric more, I'm so glad that he photographed my wedding. If he ever needs a reference I am so absolutely there! And if I ever need a photographer again he is my first choice!!!

Having Deric shoot our wedding was the best decision we made in all of our wedding planning. We decided early on that we could settle for a lot of things, but not photography. It was important to us that the feeling of the day was captured in our photos and he delivered! Deric was able to make us, and our guests, feel at ease and it shows in the photos. The pictures show personalities in a way that I don't think we would have had with another photographer. Deric took time to get to know us and our friends and families. He understood our style and he honored that AND elevated it. He gave us all the shots we requested and so much more. He did some amazing work with the kids (there were many) and captured some amazing moments. We feel like we got some heirlooms from his photography. And this was just the wedding day. Deric also did our engagement shoot so that he could get to know us and we loved the whole process. Even my (now) husband got into it. Prior to meeting Deric, every picture of my husband featured him doing the "blue steel" pose from Zoolander. Thanks to Deric, I know have enough pictures of my husband being his handsome, non-Zoolander, self to fill albums. I cannot recommend Deric highly enough. We feel truly fortunate to have worked with him. You feel like Deric is your teammate and there is no one else we would rather have on our team. -

Deric deserves 6/5 stars! In short, he became both friend and family while photographing our groom's dinner, ceremony, and reception. His work speaks for itself (I mean, come on. Look at it!), but know that the man behind the camera is definitely someone you want by your side at your wedding. We were drawn to his vivid, journalistic style, and got exactly what we hoped for. He took time to get to know our guests, and captured candid portraits with personality, ephemeral and pivotal moments, and all the joy and love of our family and friends on that special day.
Deric arrived early to our groom’s dinner to photograph our families meeting for the first time, which was priceless foresight. He was accommodating and patient the morning of our wedding as our schedules constantly changed, and managed to be in 2 or 3 places at once. Deric was attentive to photographing our families, wedding party, and our 'dog of honor’. He even offered to drive me and my husband-to-be into the desert for the landscape portraits we wanted, shooting in the 110 degree sun, and keeping us smiling and enjoying every second. He was nearly invisible during the ceremony, maneuvering professionally. As the celebration turned from banquet, to dance, to pool party, Deric never missed a beat saving our memories – and some he even helped to create.
He delivered all the photos to us within a few weeks on a beautiful custom USB drive, which made them super easy to share with family and friends. Deric also makes the process of ordering prints and books very simple, although we haven’t yet chosen which of them we want to print — there are just so many we love!
Deric is the most friendly, intuitive, and professional photographer to have by your side on your special day. He comes with my highest recommendations. Hire him and you’ll get more than photographs – he’ll tell your story. -

Deric shot both our engagement photos and wedding photos and we couldn't be happier!! Deric takes the time to get to know you and then caters his photography to your personality. We didn't want staged photos. We wanted our wedding to look real so we could remember it the way it was! Deric managed to capture so many beautiful and wonderful moments. He was probably the hardest working person at our wedding and at the same time was completely unobstrusive. We can't give him enough stars!! Thank you, Deric!! -

He is amazing! I did my professional headshots with him back in May. I was really happy with the results and on top of that, he is really fun and easy to work with. It can be awkward to take pictures and he made me feel really comfortable. I would definitely use him for any of my events or if I wanted to re-take my headshots. I HIGHLY recommend him! -

Cannot speak highly enough of Deric Mendes Photography. At Working Wardrobes we have worked with him for a number of our client events and each time he has captured the essence of our work! His photography is amazing! He is so disarming to those on the other end of the lens and the emotion and moments he captures is amazing. There should be a "HELL YES I would recommend Deric" button. Deric met with us, we talked styles, traded photos and we knew we could not have found a better fit for a wedding photographer. We were specific about what we wanted, lots of candid moments and less posed artificial "portraits". We wanted families interacting, people mid-laugh, folks telling stories, reunions, kids falling asleep held by adults also trying to juggle their cake...the beautiful moments that happen when people are at a special event.
And not only did he take photos the day of our wedding, but came to our family meet and greet the night before to snap pics. He fit right in - not only does he have an amazing eye for moments, he's the kind of guy you're happy to hang out with. The day of the wedding he was cool, calm and collected and we have some drool-worthy photos. Friends and family, when they see the pictures, they're first response is invariably, "Who took your photos?," followed closely by "These are the MOST AMAZING WEDDING PICTURES I'VE EVER SEEN!" We could not have been more thrilled with the results. Thank you, Deric!! -

We had a phenomenal experience working with Deric! He shot both engagement and wedding photos for us, and we could not have asked for a better person to work with. Deric makes what can typically be an uncomfortable situation into a easy, fun adventurous experience. He took the time to understand us and clients and then created original and unique work that really felt like "us". We can not recommend him highly enough! -

Deric has a great eye and provided us the perfect mix of beautiful posed and candid shots that we were hoping for. He was incredibly nimble and responsive to our needs, and he made himself perfectly available to us. Being married to an actor and working for an elected official, I've had a lot of experience around photographers and know that some can take up a lot of energy in the room. Deric knew exactly how to hang back and let us have our private moments, but still capture them appropriately. He's such a warm, caring person and he was an incredibly calming influence on what can be an overwhelming and sometimes stressful day. -
