From the start we hit it off with Darcy, she made us feel at ease, and we knew that we were on the same page. We interviewed with a bunch of photographers and none came close to the warmth and calmness we felt from her. She prioritizes the moments and capturing emotions over exhaustive posing and run of the mill wedding pictures. I think my mom said it best "There are so many poignant memories captured so artfully that evoke physical reactions and words could never illustrate the range as well as Darcy did." Darcy and her assistants did a phenomenal job. They kept us laughing, nothing ever felt forced or fake, and after our more intimate portrait shots they somehow faded into the background while still capturing all the amazing details of our wedding and guests. Since sending a few of our pictures around people are constantly blown away by the shots. We will treasure these forever and going forward we will include Darcy in every single life event that we need to document. -

I cannot recommend Darcy enough! She was an absolute joy to work with from start to finish, and we are still amazed at how beautifully she captured my husband and me on our wedding day. She didn’t just photograph us, but all of our loved ones as well, and every image feels full of warmth, joy, and genuine emotion. Darcy has such a calm, pleasant presence and put us at ease immediately, which really shows in the photos. We never felt awkward or overly posed; instead, she guided us gently and let the natural moments unfold. Because of that, our gallery feels like a true reflection of our day and our relationship. Where do I even begin with how much we loved having Darcy as our engagement and wedding photographer. We were looking for a casual and natural style and loved that she has an eye for capturing people just how they are. In her materials, she says she tries to make her work capture what it felt like to be there and she delivered exactly that! In addition to loving her photographic style, she was my first choice for an engagement and wedding photographer because of her beautiful family and pet portraits. Darcy was an absolute pleasure to work with during our wedding! She took the time to really get to know my husband and I before hand, and she was able to capture our personality super well in our photos! She was very responsive and kind! enough and we would recommend to her anyone. After coming across Darcy's website and chatting with her by phone, we knew immediately that she would be a special part of our big day. Darcy sees the magical details and the candid moments you didn't even realize were there. She took the time to learn about who we were as a couple and captured the fun, funny, and loving tone of our wedding day magnificently. She was warm, communicative, and wonderful to work before throughout the process and I felt secure knowing our wedding memories were in her capable hands. The moment we received our photographs, the usual anxiety I have about getting photographed melted away. They're absolutely stunning...we've gone through them over and over again and know we'll cherish them for life. We had an amazing experience with Darcy!
I just got my final photos from Darcy today, and they're so amazing, I had to leave a review right away! First off, she was exactly what we were looking for. We had some specific priorities when looking for a photographer, and she met all of them. Our priorities were:
1. Finding a photographer who we'd be at ease with for photos. We're two introverts who don't like being the center of attention. She made us feel so comfortable when we first interviewed her and the day of the wedding.
2. Having more candid shots than just typical posed photos. She told us that was her style too, and she definitely delivered on that. Of course, she did great traditional group shots too.
3. Having a photographer who was willing to let us get a smaller, custom package so we could save money. Her typical package is 7 hours, but she was willing to do a 5 hour package for us.
The day of the wedding she was spectacular. We had rain before the ceremony that slightly derailed our picture plans, but she pivoted quickly. She still got almost all our pictures done either before or shortly after the ceremony so we could enjoy almost all of the cocktail hour with our guests.
Now, that I have the photos, and I'm so happy with them. There are so many amazing ones to choose from. Thank you so much Darcy! -

It could not have been more perfect. Darcy was magical as our photographer for our DC wedding. She expertly managed our family and friend photos and was able to capture our special day. We worked with Darcy for our engagement photos and were blown away, so we knew the wedding photos were going to be special.
Darcy was so kind, professional, and wonderful to work with during the day of our wedding. She was able to snap amazing photos of the first looks, the ceremony, and other special moments throughout the day. My husband and I cannot say enough amazing things about Darcy! From the very beginning we chose her after reading her blog and looking at her photos - we didnt want any structured, staged photographs of our wedding but instead wanted a photographer who would focus on documenting the day as we will remember it. We talked multiple times before the wedding day and she was so open to our vision of the day. My husband feels terribly uncomfortable as the center of attention, and Darcy was so open, understanding, and interested in thinking of ways to make him feel more comfortable. She was dedicated to learning the names of important guests, understanding some family drama, and made me feel at ease.
On the day of, she was INCREDIBLE! She was so friendly and so open that we immediately felt comfortable around her. She was super flexible and went with the flow while maintaining control over different groups of people for photos. She even got my dog to pose and look at the camera! When the photos arrived (in like a week or two max), we literally screamed at each photograph because of their beauty and the way they captured our special moment. 100000% recommend for your photographer if you are interested in documenting the day and not just the details. Extraordinary photographer, incredible photos
We will cherish Darcy’s photos of our wedding day. She truly captured how we and our guests FELT, not just how we looked — from my dad seeing me in my wedding dress for the first time to our surprise at an unexpected thunderstorm during our outdoor ceremony. Darcy is an extraordinary and talented photographer and a wonderful person. I loved working with her and I can’t recommend her highly enough! -

Hiring Darcy was one of the first decisions we made when planning our “micro wedding” last fall, and we are so happy we made that decision! Our engagement photos turned out beautifully, and she made us feel comfortable in front of the camera. On our wedding day two weeks ago, Darcy was a calming, professional presence. I was a nervous wreck and Darcy’s energy really helped me calm down. I was anxious about pretty much everything but I was never nervous about how the photos were turning out because I really trusted her. She handled organizing our large families for portraits after the ceremony with such ease, and was so helpful directing us for our couples portraits. We can’t wait to see the wedding photos and know they will reflect such a happy day. You can’t go wrong choosing Darcy to photograph your wedding. Hopefully we will work with her again someday for family photos! -

We absolutely love our engagement photos. We were a little camera shy at first but Darcy was very patient and put us at ease. She replies very promptly to emails, makes the entire process clear, and really takes time to get to know her clients. We even had to reschedule our shoot at the last minute and she fit us right back into her calendar immediately. We can not wait for Darcy to photograph our wedding. She is a great photographer and just a truly nice person to be around. -

We cannot say enough amazing things about Darcy. Not only were our photographs beautiful, working with her from the moment we first set up a meeting with her was amazing. She's warm, friendly and professional all at once. She was also understanding as we went from big wedding to small wedding and cancelled and uncancelled our date.
On the day of our wedding, she took charge and put us in the right spots and helped us through the awkwardness of posing for photos. Our families also thought she was wonderful to work with and we all absolutely love the photos. Truly, I know I'm gushing but I can't recommend her enough. -

Darcy was the first vendor I booked after finding the venue! I was in love with the way she is able to capture beautiful moments without doing all the posing all night and making people not act like themselves just to get a shot, which is what we were looking for! I had to reschedule my wedding multiple times #coronabride and on the date we settled on for the final time, she wasn't available for, but went above and beyond to help me find another photographer in a similar style to hers! We got engagement pictures done with Darcy, which I'm so glad we did, because it was such a fun date day and was so easy and natural with her! We've gotten so many compliments on them, and they are my favorite pictures of us from the last 4 years of dating. Thanks for the fun afternoon, amazing work, and beautiful shots!! -

Darcy was a pleasure to work with for our engagement and wedding pictures.
We were not used to getting our picture taken as a couple, but Darcy made us feel comfortable and made the whole process feel much more natural. Darcy was very responsive and flexible, which was especially helpful while planning a wedding during COVID-19.
Darcy and the second shooter, Nina, captured our wedding day beautifully. Our wedding pictures show the myriad of emotions and the series of small events that created our wedding as a whole. The photos of the candid moments will allow us to remember all parts of our wedding for all years to come.

Darcy could have not done a better job capturing our wedding. The photos she took really capture all of the emotion, love, and fun that made up the day. This is so valuable to us as we had to cut our guest list by 100 people. My extended family and friends who were unable to attend absolutely loved the photos. Darcy was amazing to work with and was so flexible rescheduling our engagement photos a million times and for the change in venue! All of my guests loved her and she is incredibly professional. Mike and I are incredibly awkward in front of a camera but we felt so comfortable with her and the pictures prove it! I would 100% recommend her!!!! -

Darcy was the first vendor I spoke with over a year ago, and I knew from one phone call she was the right photographer for my husband and me. We completed our engagement photoshoot with her months before the wedding day, and it was a great way for us to feel more comfortable in front of the camera. I told her right off the bat that photo shoots are not our thing, and she kindly walked us through every step. I love when she tells me to let her know which photos I like best from the albums (engagement and wedding) because they are ALL incredible. She is so talented, and can somehow get emotions to shine through a photo. My family and I ended up having a small COVID safe wedding instead of the original plan, and Darcy was so easy to work with and supportive during this transition. Our "plan B" of a wedding, ended up being the perfect event we could have ever dreamed of, and Darcy was a huge reason for that outcome. Photos are more important than ever now to share with our family friends since only our parents and siblings were physically with us. I am so excited to share our photos with the rest of loved ones. As a bride that planned TWO weddings (small & and hopefully we will have our larger one post covid), I know picking a photographer can seem daunting. Let me help you make this easier for yourself - Go with Darcy if you want one less thing to worry about on your day. I am so grateful to work with her again for our larger celebration in 2021. -

We loved working with Darcy! She is truly an incredible professional and person. First of all, her beautiful photos speak for themselves. (We are SO happy with our photos!) But additionally, Darcy as a person and professional is highly skilled and amazing! Working with Darcy has been perfect so far! She shot our engagement shoot a few weeks ago and had a quick few week turnaround for getting us pictures which was perfect for us to get our Save The Dates. Darcy is an absolute dream to work with. My husband and I booked her for our wedding at District Winery and she captured every detail of the day. We decided to also book he for an engagement shoot several months prior and were equally impressed with her talent. If you are looking for a photographer to capture beautiful candid moments, Darcy is your girl. She has such an eye for seeing the "in-between" moments. Looking back at her photos it makes you feel like you've been transported right back to that day. I should mention that Darcy had not photographed at our venue before, so she wasn't entirely familiar with the neighborhood or venue. Well, this wasn't an issue at all because Darcy took the time to actually visit the venue beforehand and get the lay of the land. She also scoped out the surrounding neighborhood and got several ideas for cool places to take photos. A couple days before the wedding, Darcy and I had our final check in where she rattled off ideas for the first look, etc. I FELT SO TAKEN CARE OF. From the beginning, it was clear to me Darcy was going to take gorgeous photos of our wedding. But it felt especially safe knowing she had been thinking about our wedding and planning how to help execute it in the most special way. I truly cannot say enough good things about her! Darcy is an extremely kind, down to earth and sweet person. She made working with her such a JOY. She's the kind of person where you meet her in a professional context but you think to yourself "I could totally grab a beer with you one day". Needless to say, when my husband and I decide to grow our family, we will without a doubt be booking Darcy for pregnancy and family shoots. Not to mention, I plan on recommending her to every bride I know in the DC area. Darcy, we love you! Thank you times a million!! -

When we started the hunt for a photographer, we took to Instagram to see if hashtags would reveal any gems in the DMV area. Fortunately, our hashtag hunt led us to Darcy! Darcy’s photographic style is just what we wanted: she will document the heck out of your day, but focus on the moments (and people) that matter to you most. Darcy will take all the small detail photos—the dress, the décor, the rings—but you will get a gallery that is full of faces and fun, rather than place settings. Darcy is super bubbly and fun to work with; her prices are very competitive, and when it came to scheduling conversations or an in-person meet-up, she was very flexible. Darcy happily joined our venue walkthrough, as it was a new venue for her, and we got to watch her brainstorm place for couples photos on our wedding day. She knows what she is doing…and it shows! She made us feel very comfortable leading up to our wedding, and throughout our couple and group photo sessions. Her turnaround time was super quick (7 weeks!), and all of the photos are made readily accessible for online viewing, uploading to various cloud platforms, or downloading directly to your computer. If you are questioning whether Darcy is the photographer for you, trust us…she is!! -

If you are looking for an incredible photographer AND an amazing, kind, compassionate person, Darcy fits the bill. She went above and beyond in every single way to make our wedding day special. Leading up the the event, she was supportive, kind, and open to any vision we had for the day.
She was very flexible in meeting with us leading up to the wedding and immediately put our minds at ease by knowing all of the right questions to ask about the photography at our wedding.
By the day of the wedding, we felt like we had a good friend having fun with us and taking pictures. She was so considerate of all of our guests, making sure they had a great time while still finding the perfect opportunities for incredible shots.
After the wedding, Darcy was way ahead of schedule in giving us a sneak preview of our pictures and in delivering the final album - which countless people made a point of telling us were the best wedding photos they have ever seen. They are truly remarkable.
My wife and I both enjoy art and photography - so we were picky about photography and this was an important decision for us. We looked through dozens of photographers before contacting Darcy. We couldn't be happier that we did!

Dream engagement photoshoot experience!
Engagement photoshoot success!! My fiancé and I had been very nervous about our engagement photos. Neither of us is particularly comfortable in front of the camera, but we really wanted to have the chance to take photos prior to the wedding day. Darcy had the best solution to calm our nerves and give us the relaxed, laid back shoot that we wanted... She suggested that we make our shoot into a fun "date day" that my fiancé and I would go on together on a regular weekend. She met us outside the National Gallery of Art, and we walked around the museum together, went through the sculpture garden, got ice cream, and then ended at a random cocktail bar (yes, she joined us for ALL of this, including our random impromptu walk on the National Mall with ice-cream cones and our trip to the cocktail bar)! We ended up having the BEST time and just got the pics back (SUPER quickly, too!)... we are in love! I would recommend Darcy to ANYONE and EVERYONE in the DC, Virginia, or Maryland area... She is phenomenal! She answered emails, texts, and phone calls leading up to the shoot and took the time to make sure we were comfortable and relaxed. She captured us perfectly without us even really knowing she was there. -

Darcy was simply incredible. She was recommended to us by my now sister-in-law and seeing her "photojournalism" style online, we knew she would be a good fit.
From our first meeting, we were at ease and comfortable with Darcy, and appreciated the way she tried to get to know us and our personalities, what we valued and who we were as a couple, and what we wanted to remember about our day. She was super communicative, and responsive to our questions, concerns, and suggestions. My husband was especially nervous as he is not a big fan of posed pictures, but she made him feel super comfortable and let us call the shots on how many posed pictures we did.
The outcome was breathtaking. It captured everything we hoped and so beautifully. From the little details and pure snapshots in time, like our flower girl trying on one of the bridesmaid's shoes, to candids of our friends and family greeting each other and spending time together that we wouldn't have otherwise seen but warmed our hearts, to party and dance pics that emanate energy and joy, and of course shots of my husband and I that are so natural and perfectly convey exactly how we felt in those moments. The gallery brought tears to my eyes.
My mom wrote on facebook and I totally agree, "I can’t say enough about this photographer-Darcy Troutman. She 'got' our families, but you’d never know she was there!" -

I was getting very distressed over how much wedding photogs appeared to cost, thinking about what we were going to cut in order to afford someone decent - and then along cam Darcy, recommendation from a friend. She is AMAZING! Darcy is low pressure, very organized, extremely professional and always thoughtful. She even went to our location on her own time to test out the light by photographing her kids since it was a new location for her at the time. Based on that experience, she made thoughtful suggestions to us about the time of day for the ceremony and pictures to make the most of everything. We are trying to adopt a child now and sweet Darcy even offered to do a family photo shoot as we prepare our adoption profile. We can't wait to have Darcy photograph our entire family once it is complete!! -

Best Decision!
I am SO glad we chose to hire Darcy Troutman for our wedding and engagement photos!! We literally couldn't be happier with the results. On top of being an incredible photographer who captured each aspect of our wedding perfectly, Darcy is extremely professional and conscientious. 5/5! We reached out to Darcy after seeing her documentary/candid-style photography and she responded quickly asking to meet up for coffee to discuss our wedding ideas. In person Darcy is a wonderful wedding professional to interact with in the lead-up to the big day. She is warm, friendly, and makes the experience very personal, sharing her own suggestions but also being very flexible to the couple’s desires. She provides a very helpful questionnaire early in the process to gauge the nature of what kinds of photos you’re looking for, who to include, who or what to avoid photographing, and what kind of ‘feel’ you’d like to come away with when all is said and done.
On the day of, she and her assistant, Alan, were very helpful in organizing the important photos and ensuring that we were satisfied with how everything was shaping up. She had worked at our venue before and was familiar with the best places to photograph, which only made the photo sessions run more smoothly. On top of that, she and Alan recognized opportunities for good lighting as they presented themselves and were pretty creative with the shots.
Lastly, but certainly not least of all, she doesn’t charge an exorbitant amount and really delivers in terms of the quality of the photos.
Overall, we would recommend Darcy in a heartbeat to anyone looking for an excellent wedding/family photographer.
