From start to finish, everything was exactly what we had hoped for and more. Our wedding cake was red velvet, and not only did it look beautiful, but it tasted absolutely incredible.
To this day, our guests are still talking about how delicious the cake was, which says everything. It was one of those standout details that people genuinely remember, and we find ourselves still dreaming about it!
If you’re looking for a bakery that can bring your vision to life while delivering something truly unforgettable in taste, we cannot recommend Cakes by Donna enough. They were such a special part of our day! -

I loved our wedding cake by creative cakes by Donna! It was baked so deliciously and decorated so beautifully for our Valentine’s Day wedding. We had a chocolate and vanilla cake with raspberry cream filling and raspberry jelly filling. The fillings weren’t too sweet which we liked. I would definitely recommend them for your wedding cake! Our cake was included with our wedding venue (society room of Hartford) -

My husband and I were not only lucky to have our wedding cake included in our Society Room package, but also to have one of the most delicious wedding cakes we’ve ever had! Creative Cakes by Donna truly takes the cake when it comes to wedding cakes (pun absolutely intended!). Any flavor you choose is guaranteed to taste like a real cake- like the one your mom bakes for your birthday. You can feel the love, nostalgia, and sugary goodness in every bite. We had guests going back for seconds and even thirds, all declaring it was one of the best cakes they’d ever had! Even more importantly, the team was amazing to work with: prompt, detail-oriented, and incredibly creative. They made this part of the process completely seamless, and we only wish we lived closer to Hartford so we could order their cakes more regularly. Creative Cakes by Donna was a hit at our wedding!! We loved the buttercream frosting, it was light and fluffy and not gritty like some can be! Lots of flavors / options to play around with but we ultimately went with funfetti with a French vanilla Bavarian cream filling and it was delicious!! Donna was super easy to work with and explained the process seamlessly. We couldn’t recommend her and her team enough! -

We had our fall wedding at the Essex Steam Train and our cake was from Creative Cakes by Donna. We had the apple spice cake with buttercream frosting and fall colored flowers. The cake was absolutely beautiful and tasted like heaven. All our guests loved the cake and we highly recommend Donna and especially the apple spice flavor if your having a fall wedding. -

We hired Donna for our wedding in July of 2023. She was one of the cake venders included with The Society Room wedding package. Donna was friendly to work with and quick to respond to all of our questions. She gave us a delicious sampling of cakes to take home. We decided on the strawberry shortcake with buttercream frosting. I had emailed her a picture of my vison for the cake and she nailed it! It was a tall beautiful and tasty work of art. My gests were very impressed by the display and flavor of the cake! I would recommend Donna for all of your wedding cake needs! -

Amazing !!!
I got married on 12/23/22 and Donna did two cakes for me. My wedding cake and a grooms cake. Working with her was amazing she saw my vision and made it even better than I got ask for. No only did the cakes look amazing it was one of the best wedding cakes I’ve ever had and all my guests love it and asked about it. I could not have asked for more. Everything was perfect!!!!! 100% recommend

Amazing Cake, Easy to work with
First and foremost this cake was absolutely delicious and we had lots of friends who are getting married ask us where we got it from because it was amazing. But also, just as importantly, Donna was so easy to work with. We didn't have a very specific vision and so we told her a few things and she rolled with it and created something beautiful. Additionally, she was so thoughtful and it showed she clearly loved everything about weddings as she was freely giving advice and thoughts around décor at our venue, etc. Loved working with her! -

August 2021 Wedding
We worked with Donna as a part of our wedding package through Saybrook Point, and she was fantastic. We are currently living out of state, so she coordinated with my in-laws to provide more tasting samples to them. Donna was flexible with our rescheduled date one year out due to COVID-19. She was responsive to both myself and my planner, and incorporated our design ideas perfectly. Our cake was ornate and the lemon raspberry flavor was incredible for a hot summer night. Usually, you see lots of leftover pieces of cake at a wedding; however, almost everyone finished their serving and complimented us on how tasty it was. We highly recommend Donna!

Beautiful & delicious wedding cake!
Donna did a fantastic job with my wedding cake! Right from when I first called her she was friendly and accommodating and took the time to go through different options with me. She gave us lots of samples to take home when we went in for a tasting and was up for any design and decoration we wanted. She followed up with us as the wedding date got closer and was also really flexible when we changed our minds about the design 10 days out. Donna worked with our venue and florist to pull of the logistics of the cake delivery without a hitch, which also made our lives easier on the day of. Our cake was gorgeous and so delicious! We did chocolate with chocolate mousse with light raspberry filling. Many guests remarked that it was the best wedding cake they had ever had. We intended to freeze the top for our anniversary but the cake was so good we had it the next day with family!! Would highly recommend Donna to bake your wedding cake! -

We found Donna after a horrible experience with another cake vendor we had been looking at. Feeling discouraged, we took a recommendation from a friend and I am so glad we did. Donna has been such a pleasure and it feels like you're chatting with a friend when you speak with her. She made us up a take home cake testing kit due to COVID restrictions and it ended up being such a fun little date night My fiancé wanted me to try and call to get a second round because the sample cakes were THAT GOOD. When we found out Donna actually made my fiancé's mother's wedding cake, we were sold! What a fun history to share. I am so excited to see our cake from Donna, I know she will not disappoint. She really has been a ray of sunshine in what has been a dreary COVID wedding planning experience! 10/10 -

Delicious!

We were able to get a cake from Creative Cakes by Donna for our wedding at the Pond House Café and are so glad we did! We really enjoyed the tasting where we got to try a variety of cake and fillings. We ultimately decided on a chocolate cake with cookies and cream filling. We also got to talk through some design ideas with Donna while she sketched out our vision of a winter cake inspired by a cable knit sweater. She was so friendly and easy to work with! When we saw our cake at the wedding, it was so beautiful and exactly what we had envisioned. The only thing better than how it looked was how it tasted – it was hands down the best wedding cake I’ve ever had! We had so many of our guests tell us how good it was. Donna is fantastic. When we met her she had such a great personality. So many cakes and flavors but never made you feel overwhelmed. My wife and I knew what we wanted and she executed. Cake was so tasty that when I dropped the topper off she even let me has another sampler of our flavor. The only issue you will have is that it is so beautiful you don’t want to cut it. Thanks so much to Creative Cakes by Donna, and Donna herself for an amazing wedding cake that not only looked phenomenal but also tasted incredible! When we were looking at cake vendors I was worried because I didn’t know what kind of a timetable was necessary and we were only looking a couple months out from our wedding. Donna is a baking rock star! She assuaged all of my concerns and helped my (now) wife and I to design a cake that really fit our personality. We walked into the tasting thinking we’d be going with something chocolate and after trying all of the different options decided instead to embrace our fall wedding and go with the spice cake!
Day of the wedding I was blown away by how beautiful the cake was! It surpassed all my expectations! Truly a work of art! A delicious work of art! We got so many compliments on the flavoring! Everyone loved the spice cake and agreed that it was the perfect wedding cake for the event! Thanks Donna for making a cake that made our special day even more wonderful!

Having spent 30 years in the food industry, I can say Donna and her cakes are the REAL DEAL. From the first phone call, Donna made sure to get to know us. Throughout the entire process she was very helpful and communicative. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in her shop and chatting about cake (and food and drink!) and our lives and what brought us together. We chose a lemon cake with lemon filling with alternating layers of strawberries and blueberries. Our loved ones are still raving about the delicious moist cake! There is a reason that she has been at this for such a long time. Her talent, passion and ability to really connect with her clients are all reasons that Donna is such a gem. My experience Working with Donna to create my wedding cake was wonderful. She had great suggestions. The wedding cake came out even better than the picture I showed her. Beautiful and delicious cake
As part of our wedding catering package, we had the pleasure of working with Donna to create our wedding cake. Setting up the appointment was very easy, and Donna was incredibly accommodating when my now-husband and I got stuck in literally *hours* of traffic and were very late to our tasting appointment. She stayed open late for us and didn't make us feel rushed at all (in fact, we were there for nearly 2 hours). It was so fun to taste all the combinations, and everything was delicious. We settled on an almond cake, with a layer of pistachio and coconut in between. Neither of us were really fussed about what the buttercream frosting looked like - we pointed to a picture she showed us and said that looks good! Donna said she would provide some fall florals to accent the cake. We left our cake topper with her and went on our merry way!
Donna called a few days before the wedding to confirm guest count, flavors, and delivery.
Arriving at the wedding venue, the cake is the first thing that I saw on our wedding day. My jaw literally dropped. It was THE most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Donna went above and beyond anything I could have expected. The cake was perfect- 5 layers of textured buttercream and the most stunning flowers ever; not to mention it was the best wedding cake I've ever tasted (is that bias, because it was my wedding!?!). Our guests loved the cake and my family enjoyed the leftovers for the rest of the week!
I should also mention my mother and sister purchased a cake for my bridal shower from Donna. It was funfetti flavored - my request! Donna nailed that also - guests were (and still are) raving about this cake! I'd recommend Creative Cakes by Donna to anyone. -

We LOVED our cake from Donna. She was one of the 2 vendors that Pond House gives and an option. We tried her cake during the open house, and was amazing! So flavorful and moist.
We called to book our tasting this past spring. I had also requested to try the spice cake, as I was told that was not always on the tasting sample. (They made a whole cupcake in that flavor for us, I was impressed! )
When we arrived, we sat with Donna, looked around the showroom and some photos of past cakes she has made. I definitely suggest doing some research first on her Instagram and website to see a few styles, and get an idea as to what you may want. As we talked through the process, we settled on a very classic 3 tier round cake. Each layer with a different buttercream texture. We had her also add flowers from her garden in out color scheme (small extra charge, as that is not included in the venue package.)
Then comes the tasting! My husband and I polished the whole plate! We ended up with the spice cake, with an apple pie filling, and a lightly spiced BC (Great for a fall or winter wedding!) A few other options we liked were the Almond cake with pistachio BC. There is also a lemon cake with fresh strawberries we loved.
We were thrilled with the look and taste of the cake. The guest loved it as well. We made the decision as well to NOT have a dessert table at the wedding, so people would eat the cake!

Donna is unbeatably the best wedding cake designer this side of Connecticut. She made our cake for our wedding at A Villa Louisa in Bolton, CT. The cake came with the venue package. It was a lemon cake with raspberry and vanilla cream filling. She responded to every text, email and phone call. I love her! She customized the cake to our liking and our flower designer added the flowers. In the end I cant stop eating the cake she made. It is still so moist and its after day 4 thank you so much!! Donna provided many scrumptious samples of cake and frosting during the tasting. She is very friendly, professional and flexible. My husband and I changed the design of our cake a week before the wedding because I saw a previous cake she had made for a wedding and we knew we wanted it for ours. Donna was completely open to our change and she even found the snowflakes herself to put on them. Our cake was a 5 tier, almond flavored cake, which to our surprise was amazing, with a chocolate mousse filling and Nutella, with buttercream frosting. It was absolutely one of the best cakes we have EVER tasted! Our cake was beautiful and perfect in every way. We look forward to ordering cakes from her in the future. Thank you Donna!!

Our wedding cake was delicious, beautiful, and such an amazing addition to our perfect day. During the cake cutting ceremony, we couldn't stop eating the slice that we cut. We knew from our first bite at our food tasting that this was the cake for us! The attention to detail was flawless. I highly recommend the strawberry shortcake! -

Hands down the best wedding cake I've ever eaten! You may think I'm biased, but we honestly heard that from nearly every guest at our wedding. To compliment our Christmas theme, we chose a spice cake with a cinnamon & nutmeg whipped cream filling and buttercream frosting. It was to-die-for delicious. The only problem was that it was so beautiful it was almost a shame to cut into it! Donna created a stunning three layer cake with perfect horizontal striations, topped with white roses, holly berries and evergreen sprigs. It was a centerpiece of attention at the venue, until it was gobbled up. If you want a wedding cake that is equally delicious as it is beautiful, hire Donna. -

Donna is truly talented and helpful when it comes to making delicious cakes and decorating! My mother and I met with her for a tasting to try all the flavors ... so much fun!!
I decided on a buttercream cake and showed her various pictures on IG of what I was envisioning. She not only created the cake exactly as we planned but she helped with suggestions as to how to decorate our venue (I believe she has a background in interior design as well!). As you can see from the picture, it turned out lovely. Cannot wait to eat the final layer on our anniversary! -

She worked with us to create the PERFECT flavor combination that we knew our friends and family couldn’t resist! Our 4-tier cake featured alternating layers of Chocolate Mousse and Cookie and Cream filling between Marble cake. It. Was. DELICIOUS! Not to mention, Donna and her team made the cake look absolutely amazing with perfectly executed scrollwork directly from my Pinterest board! I highly recommend Creative Cakes by Donna! Our cake was not only gorgeous but was so delicious!!! Donna was so easy to work with & so helpful when offering her opinions on what would look best! I chose chocolate with raspberry cream and fresh raspberries for 2 tiers and almond cake with coconut cream for the middle tier. I wish I had 2 tiers of both!!! Holly Sent on 08/26/2018Our wedding cake by Cakes By Donna was absolutely perfect ! She was the only tasting experience we had / needed and booked her the day of our tasting. We were blown away by how delicious multiple cake flavors /fillings of hers were.
Prior to our tasting I had it in my head that chocolate cake wasn't a "wedding " cake but when we tried her signature chocolate raspberry cake that thought went right out the window. We picked that flavor as well as the strawberry shortcake.
To top it off it tasted amazing and looked even better then I couldve imagined. It perfectly fit our waterfront venue.
I froze our topper and am already dreaming of eating it again at our 1 year anniversary!
Thank you for everything Donna we will definitely be getting cakes from you again in the future ! I can easily see this becoming an anniversary tradition :) -

We choose pistachio and coconut fillings as we wanted something different and all our guest couldn’t stop raving how good it was. Donna made our cake perfectly and it was delicious! We got so many compliments and we accidentally ate the cake topper within a week after the honeymoon because it was sooo good.
