The BEST wedding caterer!
Kate and the entire team at Common Plea Catering are amazing! They made the whole process of planning the food and drinks for our wedding at Heinz History Center so easy. Kate was so easy to communicate with and she ensured that we got exactly what we wanted. They were so accommodating with any requests we made. And the food was OUTSTANDING! We knew the food was good at the tasting but it was just as good if not better for the actual wedding! We had people coming up to us all night raving about how amazing their meals were! The bartenders were fabulous and so efficient while also making delicious drinks. We are so grateful for all of CPC for going above and beyond to help make our special day a dream come true! -

Review for July 2025 Wedding
Commonplea Catering was the catering vendor for the Heinz History Center. We still hear from our guests about the food and how tasty everything was. We wanted some seafood options at the cocktail hour and they were able to accommodate that outside of the passed appetizers we had. They had a tasting event a few months before our wedding where we got to try everything before choosing our menu options -

Out of the Ball Park
Our guests GUSHED over the food at our wedding. The presentation was stunning and the stations accommodated all our guests without creating long lines or tables waiting forever to be called. Common Plea helped us create a varied menu and were open to adapting to our needs. The extremely polite and efficient staff made it all seem effortless. -

We are huge foodies, and wanted fun and delicious foods to be incorporated into our wedding. We could not be happier with how wonderful the food was at our reception. We had compliments from the apps to the presentation of the cookie table (very important to my family). I worked with Stacy who was excellent!!! Our favorites were the charcuterie station, shrimp appetizer, and the taco bar. People thought they were awesome, and thought it was the best food they’ve ever had at a wedding! We had a few guests that work as chefs and manage restaurants, and they were blown away. We could not be happier! -

You can't go wrong with this vendor! Throughout the whole process, Stacy at Common Plea was at our side, coaching us through it and was extremely attentive and supportive. People are still raving about how amazing the food was. It's a little pricey but you absolutely get above and beyond what you pay for. I would do it all over again with them. They are phenomenal and a must if you want fabulous food and excellent service at your wedding. -

We worked with Maggie and she was phenomenal. The detail she took towards making the whole day perfect was more than appreciated. Especially when I had a minor freak out two weeks before the wedding about a dessert vendor possibly falling through...Maggie called me and reassured me that they would be able to make everything work out fine even if my original plan didn't work (it did, so all was fine). We had stations at our wedding and enjoyed the simple flow of how everything went. Maggie specifically made sure my special request of white queso at the Mexican station was met and it was delicious. The staff who helped bring food to our table were accommodating, kind, and quick. On top of everything, the fact that Common Plea coordinates everything with The Heinz History Center makes things seamless and simple. As people planning a wedding from out of town, this was a huge help to us! -

Our venue was the studio on fifth which was a hassle to work with but martin and denise from common plea took every worry i had away! I dont know how many times i emailed them but they always got back to me with quick responses.. everyone at my wedding said how wonderful the food was and that it was the best they ever tasted! -

Because of our wedding venue (Heinz History Center) having a contract with Common Plea, we were locked into our catering choice by default. This isn't a negative because working with Common Plea was really wonderful. Stacy was very helpful throughout the whole process, answering any questions that we had along the way. My wife and I were really pleased with all of the unique options that we were able to choose from when narrowing down our menu. Normally at a wedding, you eat and forget about the food soon after. This wasn't the case for us. We had a few dozen guests comment to us that their meal was the best one they've ever had at a wedding. -

My wedding was just last weekend at the Heinz History Center and Common Plea is the exclusive caterer for Heinz. From top to bottom, my experience with CP was fabulous and I highly recommend their services to anyone looking for an exceptional caterer. I worked exclusively with Maggie at CP throughout the planning process and she was INCREDIBLE. That girl is on top of her game and I never worried about anything with her! When some of my family and I went to do the food tasting, we were so impressed with Maggie's professionalism and knowledge of CP's food. Everything we tasted was wonderful and we left with very fully bellies! Maggie was wonderful with offering us suggestions for our food selections and was also honest about what she thought would be best. I trusted what she had to say and she never steered us wrong. Fast forward to our wedding reception and Maggie and her team did not let us down. The food was great and we received so many compliments. The servers were also very friendly and did a great job. Maggie even came up just to say hello which I thought was very nice. Maggie also did a great job of coordinating with the florist for the table arrangements and the linen company for the linen specifics which was a great added perk. You will be in good hands if you book your wedding reception with Common Plea.

Our wedding was at the Heinz History Center, where Common Plea is the assigned caterer. At first, I was a bit bummed that we only had one option of who to work with, but quickly realized why the History Center selected Common Plea as their preferred vendor (and why I was so thankful that they were!).
From our first phone call, Martin was a true professional. He has vast experience that he is happy to share, and is continually working to make the entire planning process and the Big Day a special one, while working within your budget. Additionally, Martin’s assistant Denise was also a pleasure to work with. They make a wonderful team and are on top of all of the details. The group tasting event was a fun and great experience where we got to see and taste numerous dishes to help select the menu for our day.
Martin and Denise also acted somewhat like wedding coordinators leading up to and on the day of our event by assisting with the timeline and set-up of the event. Additionally, they partnered well with all of our vendors, from the cake baker to the DJ.
In addition to the first-class level of service, the food was superior! Our guests continue to rave about the (Pittsburgh themed) hors d'oeuvres, dual-entrée dinner, and dessert display. Everything was presented beautifully and tasted amazing! I highly recommend Common Plea if you are looking for a top-notch event at a reasonable price!

We were very fortunate to work with The Common Plea for our catering company for our wedding. We had actually signed a contract with La Creme Catering last year, but they merged with The Common Plea. While we were very nervous about this, they honored our original contract and menu, even though the prices we had agreed to were much lower than those offered by The Common Plea! From start to finish, we were greeted with kindness, support, and enthusiasm. Stacy Stroller, the woman we worked with primarily, was always available and willing to discuss our menu and service options. She and our wonderful chef worked with our venue site, and scheduled a meeting with me a month before the wedding so that we could review our timeline, details, and the space so that everything went smoothly on our wedding day. Stacy was so wonderful, and really made it so that we had nothing to worry about! She was even willing to help us with our cookie table and to take some extra steps to help us with our cake centerpieces so that we didn't have to run around before the ceremony. She was wonderful! Beyond the service, the food was wonderful as well! We received so many compliments, and we could that the combination of passed and stationary hors d'oeuvres with a buffet dinner was perfect! While our budget only allowed a buffet dinner, we were worried that there would be long lines. Stacy managed this so that we barely saw a line at all and no one had to wait long at the buffet. In addition, as my husband and I didn't have much time to eat ourselves, they packed us a really wonderful to-go dinner that we could enjoy after the reception. I cannot recommend them enough - we had such a wonderful experience! -

We worked with Jessica and the Common Plea Catering staff for our wedding at the Heinz History Center. I will admit we weren't the easiest clients to work with (as we had high expectations for the food, service, wine, etc.), but we couldn't have been more pleased with Common Plea! They exceeded our expectations, whether it was having an extra tasting or bringing out a few surprises at our reception. I would absolutely recommend them for their food, service and willingness to work with us. Over a year later, our friends are still talking about our dinner! -

We were very happy with all that The Common Plea did to cater our wedding. We worked with Maggie and she was great at guiding us and putting us at ease with all aspects of the decisions that go in to the menu. The food was served promptly (which was very important to us). If you are considering a cookie table, they couldn't make it easier for you - people dropped the cookies off the night before and they took care of putting them all on platters and arranged them beautifully! The filet that we had as our main plate was the delicious and the best meat that we have had at a wedding. They were great with accommodating the shellfish and gluten allergies. Overall, The Common Plea is a terrific choice for catering your event. They clearly know their stuff and make sure that everything is top notch. -

The Common Plea did an amazing job at our wedding. We worked with Linda-she is so professional and thinks of everything (so we didn't have to!) Both the food and the service was wonderful and they paid special attention to the bridal party. They also host an amazing tasting event where you can try everything before finalizing your food. I would highly recommend the Common Plea! -

Absolutely perfect! Our guests were raving about the food! I worked with Maggie for our reception and I couldn't be happier. She was so incredibly helpful and made me feel so at ease. She responded quickly to any questions we had and helped with multiple last minute changes. She accommodated for kids' meals and multiple food allergies. She even had one specific meal made for one guest with multiple allergies. She just went above and beyond what we expected and the food was awesome on top of it. Don't forget to bring 2 friends to the tasting! You'll all be rolling out of there stuffed to the brim. -

Maggie was our rep at the Common Plea and we simply could not have been happier. She worked with us to plan a wonderful dinner for our wedding reception. We had an amazing tasting evening where the Common Plea hosted a party for everyone with spring and summer events. We were able to taste the exact food we had at the wedding and were able to make adjustments to suit our needs. Maggie is organized and there were no snags. She works to ensure that you can enjoy your special day without needing to worry about the food (other than enjoying eating it, of course!). -

I was a little worried b/c I had to use commonplea b/c it was the only caterer that Heinz Hall used. My worries were washed away as soon as I started working with Martin. I absolutely loved working with him and Commonplea catering. I was on a budget and he worked with me to plan a gorgeous wedding and menu. My husband and I don't like cake and he helped me plan a unique and special dessert fos us to share. I was planning my wedding from 2 states away, and he made it so easy. My guests said that is was "the most elegant wedding they've ever been to." I would work with him and Heinz Hall again and again! -

We loved the Common Plea. Maggie was there to help us every step of the way. No matter how small the question we always received a prompt response. We did a tapas-style reception which turned out to be amazing. We let Maggie guide us and it really paid off. The food was delicious and unique. Not a typical chicken or beef wedding. We had everything from thai pumpkin soup sips to sushi plates to cheesecake lollipops. We couldn't have been happier in the planning process and how everything turned out. Maggie will really take charge of everything if you let her and you should because she is an expert and will make your day run smoothly. -

Our guests could not stop raving about the food at our wedding. The presentation was amazing and the food itself was delicious ... and that's not something you typically hear about wedding food. My husband and I were amazed at the service. At the cocktail reception, servers sought us out to make sure we ate and the supervisor, Maggie, took the time to figure out my troublesome bustle AND get me a drink before she returned to make sure our reception room was perfect. My uncle, who works for a company that supplies fresh products to restaurants and who is extremely picky about the quality of food, gave the Common Plea an A+ for the wedding. We do, too. -

Maggie Nicholson was our rep and she did an amazing job in ensuring our wedding reception was a huge success. From big items like the food and booze (most important part) down to smaller details like the candy table and late-night mini-milkshakes w/ cookies, Maggie and the Common Plea impressed us and our guests big time. -

We like most of the others worked with Common Plea since we had our wedding at Heinz History Center. It was expensive which is a downside, but it was amazing.
We had a huge private tasting and I feel like we tasted the majority of the things on their menu. We ended up going with a plated dinner which happened to include a custom trio of three salad choices.
We received so many complements of how amazing our food was and I am happy we were forced into this choice. -

We didn't have a choice in catering for our wedding because Common Plea was our venue's exclusive caterer. At first I was annoyed because Common Plea was by far our largest expense. However, I have to say that for the quality of the food and the customer service, Common Plea turned out to be a great deal. Suzy worked with us to strike a balance between offering great food but still managing the expense. The food was all delicious and they were flexible in any adjustments we wanted to make (ex: changing the brands of beer we provided). What I was most impressed by was the day-of service we received. They set up a special set of drinks and appetizers in our prep-room for our wedding party to eat during cocktail hour while we were all taking pictures. Our servers for the bridal table were so attentive and never let our glasses get even half empty. They also checked in to make sure that my husband and I had enough to eat before removing our plates. It really made us feel like we were being well taken care of. I would recommend Common Plea without any hesitation. -

Overall the amount of raving compliments we got on our wedding food was incredible! Guests could not stop talking about how yummy everything was. Suzy was so easy to work with at Common Plea and went out of her way to ensure everything was to our standards and liking. She went above and beyond with her staff on the night of the wedding to make sure everything ran smoothly. Even though they are a more expensive vendor, you won't be disappointed with the quality of the food and service you receive. Top notch!! -

Common Plea catered our wedding at Heinz History Center on 10/18/14, and we couldn't have been happier with the service. From start to finish, we worked with Suzy, and she helped us customize a menu that was exactly what we wanted. I'm aware that their catering service is more expensive than some other places, but we thought it was definitely worth it and all of our guests praised how creative and delicious our wedding food was. -

Such a great experience! Martin was amazing to work with as was Stacy with the set up. They really allowed me to relax when it came to completing the venue. Since we had our reception at The Studio on Fifth, we had to have everything setup and Common Plea took control. It was like we had our own wedding planners through them. They made it a great experience. And oh yeah... I've never had some many compliments on the food. People loved it! -

We were extremely happy with the food & beverages served at our wedding. The passed appetizers were delicious, our favorite was the cozy shrimp. For entrees, we selected the salmon and the beef, served with an Asiago gratin potato plank and broccolini. Everything was cooked perfectly, and we received many compliments from our guests.
Stacy & Amanda were wonderful to work with, and went out of their way to accommodate some creative requests we had. They were professional, responsive and super helpful throughout the process.
The only drawback was the pricing - it's expensive vs. industry standards, and they charge an exorbitant fee if you want to offer a choice in entree for your plated meals.

The food from the Common Plea was absolutely delicious! We decided to go with the food stations. They were very unique and our guests loved the food. They only thing we wish was that the bridal party would have been able to eat first. As soon as the food stations were announced as being open, the lines started immediately. We were getting pulled in so many different directions, it would have been nice to be able to eat first and then be able to walk around. -

My guests are still not done raving about the food. Almost every staff member was polite, professional, and accommodating. -

The quality of food at common plea is fantastic! We had our wedding at the Heinz History Center, so they were our exclusive catering vendor! We had a few problems due to the rates changing between when we booked and when we were doing our menu selections which led to a much higher cost than expected. We did work out our issues and we had a wonderful event! The food is fantastic and service on our wedding day was great! -
