November 2025 Wedding Castle Hill
I would recommend the Colonial Florist to everyone getting married. I wanted a fairytale feeling at our wedding and gave Donna inspiration pictures and she completely made my vision come to life! I truly cannot say enough amazing things about our florist. From our very first conversation, she was unbelievably warm, kind, and genuinely invested in understanding our vision. She didn’t just hear my ideas, she got them, refined them, and somehow turned them into something even more beautiful than I imagined.Every single detail was thoughtful and intentional. To say she WOWed our guests is a huge understatement-people are still talking about the welcoming of the ceremony space, the warmth of the dining room and uniqueness of our flowers. They completely transformed the space and set the tone for the entire day.She was also incredibly flexible and patient as I made numerous changes (as brides do 😅), and never once made me feel like a burden or rushed. Working with Donna was absolutely incredible. She was very quick to respond and was so helpful in helping our vision come to life. From the very first phone consultation to wedding day, Donna was amazing. I actually started to tear up with I saw our Chuppah on wedding day, as it was everything I was envisioning and more! She made our tables look fantastic with greenery, candles, and flowers. And the flower collar she made for our pup was so sturdy and is still together months later!! Donna helped make our vision for our wedding florals a reality. Going in, we knew a few variations of flowers that we wanted in our bouquet and a rough color palette. Thank goodness we found Donna, because she heard our rough description of what we wanted and knew how to turn it into something even more beautiful than what we had imagined. Our budget was small, but we were so pleased with what we got and the level of service quality we received. I gave a general idea and they delivered a gorgeous and lasting product that was highly complemented at the wedding. To top it off, it was affordable and they delivered everything promptly. Wonderful Florist for a Wedding!
Working with Colonial Florist and Donna was a wonderful experience. We received exactly what we wanted including bouquets, boutonnieres, table greenery/flowers, small bud vases for the cocktail tables, extra flowers for the cake, and candles. Donna was responsive to my emails and phone calls. She spoke with us before we had picked a florist and described what she could do and would recommend. As we got closer to the wedding she was able to make adjustments to the number of table decorations and arrangements we needed and sent me an updated invoice each time. On the day of the wedding, they drove to Leesburg, VA (2 hours away!) to do all of the setup. They returned after the reception was over and cleaned/got their items. The long drive did not cost anything extra. Donna even put live flowers in my cake since my bakery was not able to. I was so happy with how all of the lovely flowers turned out and would recommend Colonial Florist to anyone in search of a wedding florist.Colonial Florist's reply:

She was affordable and extremely flexible by letting me change up the entire floral colors & selections last minute (not that I recommend you do that :) ). She communicated promptly and clearly and helped make the hectic process of planning go smoothly. Donna at Colonial Florist was incredibly helpful, flexible, and accommodating. My husband built a custom beam on which we wanted a large garland of our wedding flowers. We sent the dimensions and a photo of the beam to Donna and the garland she made was a perfect fit and brought our vision to life. I made additions during the planning process and she was very accommodating. She even brought extra greenery and flowers and placed them perfectly to add extra warmth and color. Donna truly exceeded our expectations. I would not have entrusted my wedding flowers to any other florist and highly recommend Colonial Florist.Colonial Florist's reply:

Donna took all my ideas and put together the most mesmerizing flowers and decor for our wedding day. She absolutely blew out all of my expectations and delivered what I can only described as the images of my dreams. There was a moment in the evening where my MOH pointed out certain table details and I am so happy she did that, for it caused me to really take in the masterpiece that Donna put together. The candles, flowers, centerpieces, variations of colors; it was all breathtaking. I truly have no words. Donna made everything seem so simple and effortless, seriously a true queen. If fairy godmothers were real, she would honestly be the closest thing to them.

Seriously amazing florist!
Hire Colonial Florist. Working with them was amazing. I had a vision for using local florals for my tablescapes and they were able to match my bouquets and decor flowers perfectly. They also showed up on-site to help set up about 1000 bud vases and really help my vision come to life. They were reasonably priced and just such a pleasure to work with.Colonial Florist's reply:

Donna & team was AMAZING from the consultation all the way to wedding day. She was responsive, suggestive, and so easy to work with. Unfortunately I never got to meet her in person on the big day from all the craziness happening, but just from phone calls alone I knew I didn’t have to worry about choosing her as our florist. I am a bride that wasn’t too picky with my vision but had a general idea of what I wanted my flowers to look like and she hit it out of the park! Stunning flowers
GORGEOUS flowers and incredible vendor. We hired Donna for our wedding at the recommendation of our wedding planner. Donna was fabulous to work with and the results were amazing. She really listened to my vision of how I wanted the flowers to drape, the colors, the “vibe” (for me I wanted it to look like I had just picked the most beautiful bouquet of wildflowers and WOW she surpassed my vision) and even particular flowers I wanted in it. She also really worked with us to be respectful of our budget and had great suggestions like reusing bridesmaid bouquets and centerpieces to save money! Donna gave me a preview bouquet to look at and give feedback on months before the big day, which was great for envisioning and helping me pull everything together. As I said the results were incredible: from the boutonnières to the archway flowers to the bridesmaid and bridal bouquets, each detail was carefully done and I was so in love with the flowers day of. Donna brought the most beautiful wedding flowers of my dreams, and they make every photo pop!
After speaking with at least a dozen local florists, I decided to go with Colonial Florists for several reasons, and I am SO happy that I did!! From the very beginning, Donna responded in a very timely manner, and was incredibly sweet. She met with me, my mom, and my mother-in-law in person at her adorable shop to go over my vision for the flowers. I also met with her to do a trial bouquet. Each time we met, she was so kind, patient, and incredibly talented at putting together flowers that matched my vision! She puts off warm, kind energy, and you can tell she loves her job! On my wedding day, she showed up with the most beautiful flowers of my dreams, and they make every photo pop! Donna is a masterful florist who's arrangements really brightened up our wedding! She was so flexible and easy to collaborate with for my changing vision for floral design. I appreciated her taking the time to meet with me in person so I could see flower options. That definitely made planning from out of state easier! We picked up our wine barrel and mantle arrangements the day after the wedding and reused them for events the rest of the weekend. Working with Donna was an absolute pleasure. I am one of the most indecisive people I know, and I changed my mind a lot throughout our wedding planning process. Donna was so patient and receptive with every change, and I truly felt that she wanted to make sure everything was perfect. For me, envisioning what my bridal bouquets and floral arrangements would look like on my wedding day was challenging, as I don't know much about flowers and there's not really a trial run you can do like you can with dress fittings, hair and make up and even rentals. I knew I just had to trust Donna to bring my vision to life, simply by just giving her the colors I wanted, and she definitely did not disappoint. Our guests were raving about the floral arrangements days after our wedding was over. We were surprised our flowers lasted over two weeks! We cannot recommend Colonial Florist enough! My husband and I originally had a June 2020 date, but because of COVID, we postponed not just once, but twice. Donna was professional and understanding throughout the process, and never made us feel guilty about our decision to postpone. Since we initially planned for a June wedding, I had more pink and fluffy tones, but because we pushed it to September I wanted to incorporate more neutral tones and pampas grass, and Donna did a beautiful job with all the florals! I kept changing my mind a lot (sorry Donna!) and she was accommodating with every request. For example, I initially was going to do an arch full of flowers, and then as it got closer to the wedding, I decided I want pedestals and floor arrangements, and Donna brought my vision to life! Colonial Florist provided us with stunning bridal bouquets, as well as floral decorations for a wedding arch, wine barrels, a sweetheart table, fireplace mantle, wedding cake, and baby’s breath for table centerpieces. Donna had me send her few inspiration photos and colors of what I was thinking of, and her final flower arrangements exceeded every expectation I could possibly have. She perfectly brought my dusty blue romantic vision to life! Throughout the planning process, Donna was extremely helpful and flexible, especially after we decided to postpone our big event from 2020 to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Early on in our planning, we had considered doing our flowers ourselves. How hard can making a bouquet or vase arrangement be, right? But then the bride decided she wanted a cascading bouquet and we decided we wanted flowers on the arch at our ceremony site, neither of which we felt comfortable handling ourselves. We chatted with a bunch of florists in the area, getting quotes for just those items and for everything. One of the major reasons we ended up deciding on Colonial Florist was actually Donna’s attitude—she was willing to work with us to make our plans a success, even as we were still entertaining options like doing the setup ourselves to try to cut costs, while some other florists were dismissive or unwilling to even consider such options. Ironically, ultimately, the costs at Colonial Florist were reasonable enough that we ended up just having them do everything anyway!
Working with Donna was easy. She proposed a variety of flowers that she thought would fit with our general desires, so we could look them up and make sure they matched our vision. We also went into the store once and discussed everything, and we flipped through some catalogs to look at pictures and see if there were any additional flower types we might want. After that, it was hands off (other than confirming numbers) until the week before, when we delivered the wine bottles we planned to use as centerpiece vases.
The flowers turned out stunning, and the bride’s bouquet and the arch florals were perfect. Donna delivered everything early enough that we didn’t have to stress and could use the bouquets for first look and early bridal party photos. She even left a few complimentary extras for our baker to use on the cake. A lot of our flowers were brought home by guests and lasted for weeks! WOW! Absolutely stunning flowers. She gave us flowers that looked exactly like the pictures we showed her. They were so beautiful and SO fresh! Better than I could have imagined. Our boutonnières went missing at some point during the delivery and went unnoticed. I reached out to Donna after discovering that all of the "preferred" vendors on the list our venue gave us required high minimums that were beyond what we needed. Donna was very responsive and easy to work with - I explained my vision to her in one phone call and she quickly drafted a proposal which was very reasonable. She was also very amenable to last minute changes - I think I was adding on things after the deadline but she was able to accommodate everything I asked!
All of her arrangements were SO beautiful. We received so many compliments on how everything looked. I had a fairly specific vision for the tables and it came out EXACTLY as I had envisioned in my head. We decided to add a sweetheart table fairly last minute and I emailed Donna with no specific instructions, only to make it look like it fit with everything else. I was so happy with my wedding flowers! From the start, Donna was so easy to work with. We only spoke on the phone since I live out of town, but I immediately felt at ease as if I was talking to an old friend. Throughout the whole process, she was flexible, responsive and helpful to the point where I emailed her just a week out from our wedding and asked if she could make a separate stop in dropping off my bouquet on the way to the venue and she agreed. We heard about Colonial Florist at a Bridal Expo and were extremely impressed by the examples provided at the booth. We had talked about doing flowers on our own, but Donna was friendly and really took a huge weight off our minds. We wanted "wildflowers" and Colonial Florist not only had the perfect example to show experience in and understanding of exactly what we wanted, but they were able to work with our price range to ensure that we were getting beautiful arrangements at a price that would work for our budget. Great value and incredibly talented florist!
Donna was fabulous–a fantastic communicator and she took my vision and brought it to life. We only wanted fresh flowers for wedding party bouquets/boutonnieres, and Donna was the only florist in the Charlottesville area that would do that for us (all the other florists had outrageous minimum spending requirements for weddings). We really appreciated that Donna was willing to work with us, no matter how small our request. She also really listened to what we wanted and made it happen! She was very respectful of our budget concerns and made it work!
The flowers looked BEAUTIFUL and they were exactly what we wanted. They were also SO scented! I can't normally smell flowers but these were very fragrant! My bridesmaids and I kept sniffing our bouquets because they smelled so good.
