Ryan’s personality, professionalism, creativity & attention to detail make him a go to photographer! We had the pleasure of working him for our engagement & wedding photos and we couldn’t have been happier we found him through I DO OBX. From the moment we met Ryan he made us feel comfortable & at ease, Kyle & I were out of our comfort zone but he had a way of posing us in a natural, un-staged way. Ryan was easy to communicate with and listed to our vision and made it reality with photos we could have only dreamed of. He’s go with the flow & down for anything! We are SO happy we chose Coastal Shots as our wedding photographer! From the moment we did our engagement shoot, we knew we made the right choice. Ryan showed his creative skills and quickly made us feel comfortable in front of the camera.
On the wedding day, he was just as amazing. He kept such a calm, reassuring presence and made sure we stayed on our schedule without ever feeling rushed. His second photographer, Valerie, was incredible too. She had an eye for detail and clearly knew what she was doing.
Both of them went above and beyond to capture the most perfect moments of our day, including drone arial shots. We really couldn’t have asked for a better team, even our guests loved them! We highly recommend Coastal Shots to anyone looking for a photographer who is talented, fun to work with, and genuinely cares about their clients. -

Ryan and his wife couldn’t of did a better job! They were amazing and even got some shots we decided we wanted last minute the day of. The quality of the pictures and the amount we got was more then I could of imagined. We stayed at the Black stallion and they made sure to get us over to the sunset bridge to get some amazing sunset shots and even gave us a ride in there own car to do so. I’m so in love with our pictures and 100% recommend. If your wanting amazing photos and the perfect price then book them! -

If you are considering hiring a photographer in the OBX, Ryan with Coastal Shots should be it! When we got our photos back, my cousin said "I said it once and I’ll say it again, we need to hire them for every 👏🏼future👏🏼event!" Ryan and Valerie were so sweet, patient, talented and fun. They made us feel so comfortable, especially my husband, who doesn't love getting his picture taken. The best thing Ryan did was take a photo of us with all of our guests as we were processing out. I will treasure these forever! -

His experience, professionalism, and humor helped guide us through our special day despite the chaos or our lack of experience. August Wedding 2021
Ryan and Val made our day stress free. When we met with Ryan the first time, he was very easy to talk to and he understood what we wanted. I told him I really wanted beach pictures at sunset, and he made sure that happened. He got to our venue around 2:30 with Val. They did some inside shots of tables, decor, rings, my dress. We got some bridal party shots in our outfits we got ready in, my bridesmaids and mom helping me get my dress and jewelry on, and groomsmen pictures. Then, we did our first look. We got some family pictures done before the ceremony, so we had more time to enjoy cocktail hour ourselves. We were way ahead of schedule and all of us ( me, my husband, bridesmaids, groomsmen, parents, Ryan, and Val) were able to just relax before the ceremony. We walked to the beach and got our pictures at sunset, which turned out perfect. They also took so many pictures of us dancing, singing, and having fun with our friends and family. While these aren't necessarily the pictures I would frame, these are the pictures that make us remember the night. To end the night, we did a glow-stick send off. Ryan and Val stayed until everything was over. About 3 weeks later Ryan emailed me the link to our photos. Then a few weeks later he sent me a USB via mail with two folders, the highlights of the night and all the other moments throughout the day. Ryan and Val truly made our wedding day amazing. My husband and I don't like being center of attention and don't like taking photos, but Ryan and Val made us comfortable and stress free. I couldn't have asked for a better duo. -

Ryan and his team were beyond amazing. They were super laid back and relaxed, which made me relaxed.
I had told him some key moments I wanted imaged and he went above and beyond. You do NOT need to look any further than him! They stayed the whole entire day to make sure every moment was captured, even the ones I missed, (being the bride).
The photos came out absolutely stunning! I am so excited to hang these in my house. I will be using him again for family portraits years to come.

Perfect wedding photographer
We are just blown away by everything!! From the day we reached out to Ryan he made the hiring/paying process simple and easy!! We ended up having to postpone our wedding an entire year due to COVID and Ryan just went with the flow of any changes that were made!!
The day of the wedding Ryan was SO laid back, relaxed and calm - which made for a stress free day of photos! We never felt pressured or awkward through the entire day even the few times he posed us - he honestly just felt like a friend/guest at our wedding!
We received our photos within 3 weeks of our wedding day - again we are BLOWN AWAY at how amazing they all are! He captured every single little detail and didn't miss any of the special moments! Scrolling through the photos truly makes me feel like I'm living my special day all over again!

Hi guys! Seriously, let me save you some time with your Photographer search. Ryan and his team are absolutely amazing. Our original wedding day was of course postponed because, well COVID happened...so we pushed it out to 10/15/20. Ryan was very flexible in working with us to make our new date work, which as you can imagine rescheduling an OBX wedding 5 months later can be quite stressful...but he made everything so easy.
As for our wedding day itself, absolutely perfect. Ryan and his team captured every moment that we could've possibly imagined...and then some. His creativity and attention to detail just absolutely blew us away, so far beyond anything we had imagined or hoped for. He somehow even managed to make me not look like the blubbering mess I totally was...and that had to have been a feat in itself. I warned my wife ahead of time that I was going to be a mess...and I wasn't wrong, for that Ryan, thank you! When I logged in to write this review, I saw he even has our first dance photo as his main photo, what an amazing shot...that in itself shows his creativity. The man was standing on about a 5ft fence ledge, and captured what is by far our favorite photo of all, this is the kind of stuff you get with Ryan...original outstanding work.
I promise you that you will not be disappointed if you get the opportunity to hire Ryan to capture your day, I know we will be forever grateful. Ryan gave us the chance to relive our special day, the absolute best day of my life...over and over, so vividly...and there's no price tag on that. Do yourself a favor and grab Coastal Shots if you can. I’ll add a few of our favorites.

We hired Coastal Shots for our wedding 10/24/2020. Ryan came recommended to us from our wedding planner, and we loved getting to work with him! With a "COVID Wedding" Ryan was super easy to talk to and flexible with changing the date of engagement shoot and then later changing our wedding venue. Our wedding day was super smooth and easy going, Ryan and his team were very time efficient while remaining incredibly thorough, easy going, funny, and so pleasant to be around. He went over the top to make sure we got every shot we wanted as well as all the ones he could possibly think of in all the combinations - yet making sure we had plenty of time with our guests! I was so excited to see the email from him 4 short weeks after the event, the pictures turned out amazing. We were so impressed with how he caught the magic of our day on film. Highly recommend Ryan and his team, absolutely wonderful. If we ever get back to OBX, will definitely be using him again! -

Coastal Shots started photographing my family in 2016. The first year it was just my boys and I. Our extended family was so jealous of our pictures that Ryan has been stuck with photographing all of us ever since. It was only fitting that he photograph our wedding. We were so thankful, especially this year. With the pandemic, we weren't even sure it was going to happen. It was so reassuring to know we had a photographer we knew and could trust. Ryan was not only flexible, but patient and reassuring. Not only does Ryan take excellent photos, but he does an amazing job capturing our son Berney who has autism and often will only pose for a brief moment for pictures. All of my favs of him have been shot by Ryan and he surprises me every year with these. I almost never feel the need to take more photos throughout the year and my boys know now this is the one thing they have to do for me every year! Ryan, I can never have too many of these and even if there comes a year we can't make a trip down for the full vacation, I will try and figure out a way to come just for pics! Thank you for also connecting us to Ashley. Because of that Brian and I really were able to celebrate our 27 years together and even amongst the pandemic, it was perfect! We really do consider you part of our family. Wish I could share all of the amazing photos you have taken of us over the years but sharing some of my favs! We don’t have enough nice things to say about Ryan. My husband and I are from NY, so we chose Ryan after reading though reviews and a suggestion from our planner. We were NOT disappointed! Throughout the entire process, from choosing him as our vendor to the wedding day, Ryan was quick to respond and helpful in all aspects. He creates an atmosphere where he’s able to capture the most perfect candid photos, and the most beautiful silhouettes that felt genuine and natural. Easiest wedding related decision you'll ever make!
Choosing Ryan to be our wedding day photographer was a no brainer. When my husband and I first met Ryan, we loved the vibe he emitted. It was the perfect mix between being confident in his work yet relaxed in his approach. Safe to say we booked him immediately. A few months later we met with Ryan for our engagement shoot. We had a blast and he encouraged us to be ourselves. When we received the photos we were blown away by his ability to capture so many beautiful moments in an authentic way. Those engagement photos were something fun to hold on to in waiting for our big day to arrive. Before we knew it a global pandemic emerged and we had to completely change our wedding plans. Ryan was so accommodating. Not only did he happily make our new date work but he also traveled from the OBX to our hometown in Virginia for the wedding. The wedding day arrived and Ryan was on time and ready for a full day. Again he managed to capture moments which we will cherish for a lifetime. So many family members/friends were unable to attend our wedding due to restrictions but when they look at the photos they feel like they were there. Timeless photos!!
We met Ryan and Hayley at the OBX Wedding Expo and instantly clicked with their laid-back personalities and style of their photography. At the Expo, they borrowed the engagement ring, took a photo of it and printed out a professional photo, all while we were casually talking with them. Ultimately, we decided to go with them for their great packaging of options and their expertise of OBX weddings. After getting the contract started, we met with them to discuss the timeline, engagement photo shoot options and what we were looking for in our wedding photos. When it was time to do our engagement photo session, Ryan had some great ideas of where to go and made sure to get our opinion of what we wanted and didn’t want. We did half of our photos in the Downtown Manteo/Roanoke Marshes Lighthouse area and the other half in the Elizabethan Gardens. Ryan was incredibly efficient and thorough while only taking two hours total. The best part was Ryan knocked out the edits and had the entire gallery available to us in about three days! As our wedding got closer, we could easily email back and forth with updates to the schedule and what the day was starting to look like; Ryan would offer suggestions to make things run smoother on our big day. On the day of the wedding Ryan and Hayley showed up right on time and went to work right away. Ryan got the guys getting dressed and some great pictures of the Groom with his brothers and mom and dad. He also captured some amazing moments of the Bride and bridesmaids as they put the finishing touches on hair and makeup. We did a first touch and read letters we wrote to each other, which was a very special moment for both of us. And, of course, they had some amazing photos of the first look between the Bride and her father. Getting married at the First Colony Inn, we had a specific picture we wanted of the wedding party on the back deck and everyone else on the balconies, which they made sure to get and we even used the photo on our thank you cards! After the ceremony, Ryan and Hayley took us across the street to the beach for photos of just the bridal party. Once the reception started, they grabbed us to go take sunset photos on the Sound, which turned out amazingly well. For the rest of the evening, it was almost like we didn’t even notice they were there because of the way they blended in to get so many special moments from the night. We can’t forget to mention the photo booth we used from Coastal Shots, complete with our custom design for the night and album of all the photos that were taken in it that night. The online digital album of all our photos from our wedding day were available almost exactly a month after the wedding, which was a bonus gift for us! Ryan also sent us a flash drive with all the photos they’d taken as well as the photo booth pictures. We can’t say enough about Ryan and how much he made our wedding day that much more special by capturing the memories we will cherish forever! -

Amazing photographers, even better people!
Ryan and his team were amazing to work with! We got both our engagement and wedding photos done through Coastal Shots, and we are in love with all of our photos!!
Ryan keeps things very casual, which was so helpful to us so we didn't feel awkward. I highly recommend taking advantage of the engagement shoot so that on your wedding day you are already acquainted and know what poses/angles work best.
In addition to amazing photography skills, Ryan was a huge asset to helping things run smoothly on our wedding day. He and his partner took the lead on directing us when needed, his partner pinned on all of our boutonnieres (she was the only one who knew how!), and he was even on the phone with our lighting vendor trying to fix a strand of lights that went out for us towards the end of our reception. You won't find another photographer as committed to your wedding day as they are!
They are truly amazing photographers, and even better people! 10/10 would recommend them to all family and friends for their weddings/special events! -

Blown away!!
As the groom I honestly was not that excited or frankly on board with the photography aspect however I have never been more wrong. Ryan was so much fun to work with from the very beginning throughout the event. He was super responsive and informative as well as helpful from the very beginning and throughout planning. He and his assistant were both so much fun to work with and I'm someone who frankly does not like having photos taken of himself. Additionally throughout the event he was available for group photos and at the same time near invisible to get action and event shots. Then we got the results... and a better writer could describe the joy and surprise that both I and my bride are feeling since seeing them.

We are so incredibly grateful we hired Coastal Shots, Ryan and Hayley played a huge role in making our day perfect and captured every special moment in absolutely stunning photos! We booked with them because I loved Ryan's approach of being there for the whole wedding day and not limiting it to a short number of hours, and also that the photography style was so focused on capturing the candid real moments of the day and the details, along with traditional posed shots.
Ryan was responsive to emails quickly, and made me feel reassured he would capture everything we wanted with little to no direction needed from us (huge stress relief!) He and Hayley were a joy to have as part of our wedding. It felt like we’d known them for much longer than we had— they integrated seamlessly into the day and always made it feel natural and non-imposing. I loved their enthusiasm and positive energy, and they made us feel comfortable and we actually had fun taking photos.
Describing the photos as magnificent would be an understatement. They captured us in several different scenes at Sanctuary Vineyards, giving us such variety in our album-- and so many special candid moments in the background that didn't even see on wedding day. Ryan sent us a flash drive afterward with all of the photos in our online gallery and so many additional ones... it's been weeks and I still can't stop staring at them. We couldn't have hired a better photographer!! -

Ryan was amazing, fantastic, and wonderful! He was great to work with, friendly, personable, and attentive. He was there to capture our special moments and knew how to coach us into perfect shots, better angles, and genuine expression. He was helpful and responsive during the planning process and weeks leading up to the wedding, answering my questions and providing feedback. The day of the wedding he went above and beyond to make sure no moment was missed and every smile was captured. He gave off a relaxed energy which allowed everyone to feel more comfortable and have fun. The pictures came out gorgeous! Of course there were the posed pictures I was expecting to see, but there were also pictures I didn’t know were taken, different angles and perspectives on us and our guests, and moments I totally forgot about. Every picture was clear and beautiful. I am so thankful to have these photos to cherish as we look back on our wedding day. I would highly recommend Ryan as your photographer! -

We had a wonderful experience with Ryan! He captured our OBX wedding on 3.30.19 and we couldn't be happier with all the precious photos we received. Coastal Shots did an amazing job capturing our wedding day. We loved working with this husband & wife team. They responded to our emails very quickly, and were very professional. They thought of every little detail. I am beyond impressed by their work! Our wedding pictures turned out AMAZING! They were able to get our pictures back to us within two weeks after our wedding. We decided last minute to add the photo booth to our wedding day services, and Coastal Shots was able to provide that and create a unique photo strip logo just for us. They were a pleasure to work with, and we highly recommend them. We hope to use Coastal Shots for family photos in the future! -

Ryan and Hayley are absolutely lovely!!! When we were on vacation, we met with them (only photographers we met) and my fiance's words when we left were, "I don't need to meet with anyone else!" They are both personable and just fun to be around. We didn't have engagement pics done right away, so when we were down on vacation the following summer, Ryan found time and worked us in. I couldn't of asked for a better couple to capture our special day then both of them!!!! They definitely are the perfect pair for your wedding day!!!! -

We have known Ryan and Hayley for a while now, so it was only natural to ask them to be our photographers. They truly took it to the next level. Considering we had to move our wedding date up a day due to weather, Ryan replied with no stress at all and made it happen. They made us feel at ease when taking pictures considering Michael and I are not huge fans of getting a lot of pictures taken of us. I would recommend these 2 to anyone. We absolutely loved all the photos despite the crazy high winds we were dealing with. Love these 2 to pieces. -

Ryan and Hayley of Coastal Shots Photgraphy not only produced phenomenal photography for our engagement pictures and our wedding day, their calming and kind presence helped set the tone for our wedding day and keep everyone at the event having a great time. We lived in the Outer Banks at the time of our engagement shoot, and had to reschedule THREE times due to the weather, and Ryan was so accommodating and flexible through it all. As soon as we met him, we were immediately at ease and knew we were in good hands. Then the day of the wedding, some of my favorite memories are of Hayley helping to have my dress fall just the right way in the pictures, or looking up at Ryan on the dance floor taking great action shots of all our guests and smiling and singing along like an old friend. Our guests favorite thing at the wedding was of course their awesome photo booth (it's so worth it to add on everyone!!) and we have the photo booth album on our coffee table to look through and laugh and smile at every chance we get. Our favorite shots of the day (both from the engagement shoot and the wedding) are the sneaky ones that we didn't even know were happening - like the shot of us and the clouds, or through the bushes in the Gardens when we had just walked away from the ceremony as man and wife for the first time and were stealing a kiss before everyone else caught up to us. I honestly can't say enough good things about Coastal Shots, we love every picture they took and will hold them close to our hearts forever, and we loved working with this amazing husband and wife team. If you have any doubts please just trust me, it will be the best decision you make for you wedding. Thank you so much, Ryan and Hayley!! We are going to miss working with you! -

We had met Ryan once prior to our wedding the year before and since that initial meeting we knew we were in good hands! Ryan was always quick to respond and stayed in contact all the way up to our wedding. We received our wedding pictures 2 weeks after our wedding which I thought was unbelievable, and the quality of the pictures were absolutely AMAZING! We loved each and every one of them. Ryan and his team captured every special moment and then some! All of our friends and families loved the pictures as well and couldn't believe how perfect they turned out! I will also say that Ryan and his team made the experience comfortable and fun at the same time. We were not put in awkward positions and everything felt so natural which we feel made for better pictures. If you are on edge and unsure of who to use for wedding photos, engagement pictures, or simply family portraits we would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Ryan and Haley for the job! Then I booked my photographer and was able to meet with Ryan a few months prior to the big day! From the first time we met with him, we knew he was going to be awesome to work with. We just got our gallery of photos and needless to say I am absolutely blown away! As we are going through the day he gave us a sneak peek on a few, so I knew they were going to be good! But going through all of the pictures now, not only do I feel like I’m back at my wedding, but I am seeing all these amazing moments that happened throughout the day that I didn’t see at the time! Ryan and Haley are an amazing team and truly capture every moment, Really focusing on the candid moments that make for the best pictures! If you are looking for the best photographer to hire for your wedding hands down this is the best choice!

Kylie Sent on 08/16/2018Ryan and Hayley were honestly the best photographers I have ever worked with. We used them for our engagement session which was supposed to be scheduled during our wedding planning visit in March 2018 but there was a storm in the Outer Banks so we were not able to go on the beach for the shoot. Ryan and Hayley immediately suggested that we still do the shoot when we come down the week of our wedding, so we did! It was the perfect way to start a week of vacation. We ended our vacation with the wedding which Ryan and Hayley also shot for us. Ryan was so easy to communicate with during the wedding planning process I never had to worry about a thing! He had so many ideas when the time came to take pictures and you do not feel pressured or awkward. I loved that they both took pictures of things that you don't always catch at a wedding. Your wedding day is such a whirlwind there isn't possibly enough time to see and look at everything - but they made sure they captured it! The pictures came out beautiful, there isn't one that I do not love! I also love that you can download and print the pictures right from the gallery link that Ryan sends you, that is a huge bonus! Overall, my experience with them was perfect, they are two very great people who love what they do. I plan to use them for future shoots, as we will always visit the Outer Banks!

The photoshoot itself was so much better than we anticipated, as we have never gotten professional photos done before. We felt so at ease and he made the experience such a positive one. He got all of the great poses and shots that we had in mind and had a great creative eye. All of our photos are gorgeous, natural looking and were emailed to us within 24 hours! Lorraine Sent on 08/06/2018Ryan & Haley shot our wedding. They were great to work with from the first email inquiry to the final correspondence, when they sent us all of the photos (digitally). As we were deciding on a photographer & then getting organized for our big day, Ryan was quick to respond to emails & helpful with suggestions. The contract & arrangements were all simple & straight forward. When we wanted to do something out of the ordinary, he explained why it hadn't worked well for him in the past, but cheerfully agreed to it when we still wanted it that way. During the wedding, they were great at sticking to the schedule & getting all the desired shots, but also keeping it all relaxed fun; they quickly got the feel of our event & worked with it. We especially like that we paid for their photography services & then we own & can access all of the photos to make as many prints as we like, & can share the online gallery with friends & family. Ryan did a family shoot for friends of ours, & we are so pleased & grateful that they recommended him. He & Haley were so professional & a complete joy to work with.

Everyone was very impressed with the professionalism and attentiveness to our expectations. Considering how hot it was outside and the chaos going on, no one noticed in the pictures! They came HIGHLY recommended by two friends of mine who also used them for their own weddings in the OBX. (Both of their photos were incredible, so I had no doubt they'd knock it out of the park with mine!) Ryan and I had all of our communication through email prior to the wedding, and he was always SO responsive to any questions I had. They are the most friendly duo, and made our entire wedding party feel so comfortable throughout the day. Many of my bridesmaids commented how easy going and professional both Ryan and Hayley were, and I honestly couldn't agree more. They told us that our photos would be ready in 3-4 weeks, and we got them ahead of when they promised! We are absolutely in love with the photos, and are so thrilled we have these to cherish forever. Your biggest mistake would be not booking them!!

I was really anxious when looking for a photographer – I have been in enough weddings to know the crucial role they play in your wedding day (and not just because of the lasting memories they create visually) – but from the first email I received from Ryan, I knew I was in the BEST of hands. Ryan is extremely responsive and very detailed. He answered all of my questions before I could even ask them. He was so easy to work with and very flexible. Since we lived out of state, we decided to plan a fairly last minute trip down to OBX to do some pre-planning. We asked Ryan if we could do an engagement shoot during our time down there (to get comfortable with him and the camera) and he was so accommodating. He was willing to schedule the shoot immediately following my hair/makeup trail to ensure I got the total experience. The day of the wedding went off without a hitch!! Ryan and Hayley were SO fun to work with and made us feel so comfortable (not to mention they are the cutest couple ever!). They were patient, comforting and overall just genuinely wonderful people. Our photos are breathtaking!! I wish I could share the entire album because there is not one photo we don’t love (even the ones later in the night after we’d been drinking and dancing). They caught so many special, candid moments – those are the memories that last a lifetime. I cannot thank them enough for making our day one to remember! When we received our photos from Ryan I knew before we even clicked the link that they would be amazing and he did not disappoint. We are in love with every single photo from our wedding and it will be are to chose which to put in our album. Ryan and Hailey were on point with their ideas of different poses and were even willing to take a ride with our bridal party and us to Bodie Lighthouse to take photos after the ceremony. They were truly a delight to have at our wedding and we would recommend them to anyone and everyone. We hope to have them take our photos again someday when we start our family.
