    It was magical


    I’m having a difficult time writing this review because there does not seem to be words to explain just how amazing my daughters wedding was. We decided to rent the venue for 48 hours so we could stay there and enjoy the entire weekend. It was AMAZING! There is something magical about this place. Kathy and her assistant Whitney went above and beyond for me. They even stepped in and helped me during the planning when I had some stresses with other vendors. We had a downpour of rain (even flooding) in the days coming up to the wedding, including the night before. And they still supported my decision to have the ceremony outside and they had a plan to move it in at the last minute if it came down to that. It was amazing staying at the cabin on the property for 2 days. We got to have our rehearsal and rehearsal dinner there. We also got to enjoy the saloon the night before the wedding and just relax and have fun with family. The pictures are amazing. The DJ stayed late and we just danced in the barn for hours into the night celebrating my daughters wedding. I can not say enough about this amazing place. I’ve never been to a venue that offers so much and a huge part of that is Kathy and Whitney. I recommend Chisholm Trail Rustic Venue for any event! I hope to be able to rent it again in the future.

    Beautiful Venue, Perfect Weekend

    Highly recommend this venue! I love the western town vibe. It was perfect for my sunflower wedding. The owner is extremely professional and takes great care of the property. I could tell that she truly loves what she does. I highly recommend picking some of the vendors from the venue's list of recommended vendors. Those vendors are on that list for a reason!

    Best Day Ever!

    This place was absolutely perfect for our wedding! We knew it was where we wanted to get married as soon as we stepped foot into the old west town. It just fit us so perfectly. We loved that we could decorate exactly how we wanted, and we could bring in our own food/beverages. Kathy was super sweet, and really worked with us. I definitely recommend this place!!

    The Best Day

    Everything about the venue was perfect!! The accommodations were the best fit for our wedding party and guests who stayed the night. Everyone loved the saloon, and the yard space. Being able to play cornhole and the kids enjoyed the play set and swings.

    Your Dream Venue

    The day before the wedding can be chaotic! But with this venue you can set up the day before and stay the night! Kathy and her husband were great host and made sure I had everything I needed for my big day.

    Best day ever!!

    Where do I begin? It was a wonderful weekend! We booked for 48 hours, I was able to have some girl time with my bridesmaids the day and night before, rehearsal dinner and then wake up at my wedding venue!! Our big day was rescheduled due to COVID, and Kathy was so helpful and understanding! When we did have our day, it wasn’t how we planned due to the pandemic, but in our eyes it was even better! We had half the guests but way more time to enjoy those who came! Kathy was so wonderful in every part of the wedding process and the venue is absolutely gorgeous! Thank you Kathy! We love you! Chisholm trail rustic venue will always hold a special place in our hearts!

    Love This Place!

    Amazing venue

    Me and my husband absolutely LOVED this place!!!It was amazing and so cute and rustic the log cabin we stayed in was beautiful!My kids didn't want to leave when the weekend was over lol.Cathy the owner is so sweet and laid back and just an amazing person and made everything super easy for us! And you can't beat the prices here!

    Absolutely Fantastic

    We had our perfect wedding here. I would greatly recommend for anyone who is wanting the rustic theme. You don’t have to do much to get it perfect for your day

    My son’s wedding was held at Chisholm Trail Rustic Venue in November of 2018.

    Chisholm Trail Rustic Venue is a unique gem! Everyone in attendance had a great time! Our parents, grandparents, people young & old raved that it was the best wedding ever! We are going back soon for a company Christmas party & we are counting the days!!! I recommend this to everyone as there is no place like this around! Thank you Kathy! You’re a fabulous host & we love Chisholm Trail Rustic Venue!!!

    Mother of bride

    We would recommend this venue. It is very unique has lots of options. The owner was very flexible and helpful in every way to make our special wedding day the best. If you are looking for an outdoor venue with alot to offer this is the place.

    Beauty is more than just skin deep

    At a first glance it is a very beautiful venue but, the neglected property management almost ruined my wedding day. The power went off at 10:45 that morning and would not stay on. My wedding coordinator contacted the property manager, to which she did not answer and my matron of honor basically had to handle it all to where I couldn’t spend time with all my bridesmaids the day of my wedding. When my Matron of Honor called and the property manager didn’t answer she left a message, asking her to call back asap. Which she then immediately called my coordinator back. She never gave my Matron of Honor the common courtesy to even let us know she was going to fix it or that she would be coming there. She finally showed up and she sat and flipped the breaker off and on for 4 hours. She did not bother getting a generator till 30 minutes before the wedding which filled up the barn with a gas smell. I did not get to have my grand entrance the way I wanted to due to the electricity being off. The fog machine I wanted to use did not have time to heat up. The electric outlets and all wiring all need to be replaced before there is a fire or someone gets electrocuted.

    The air conditioning couldn’t keep the rooms cool to where the groomsmen’s were covered in sweat while they were getting ready. The electricity was off and on every 15 minutes and we did not know if the food would be ok to eat. My cake fell due to the electricity being off. Almost all my guest left immediately after dinner due to the heat. A lot of my guest got over heated and even myself to where I almost had to change to enjoy my reception.

    There are nails sticking out of wood to where my dress got caught on one and there are nails and screws all over the ground. I was skeptical about letting my child run around.


    The guest house-the mice added to the rustic touch

    The property manager was told by the Bridesmaids, there was a mouse problem she stated I had it sprayed, and then the following day I saw the mouse on the kitchen counter, eating the chips, which the rodent problem was another reason why my guests didn’t want to stay. The whole point of us renting the place for the weekend was so that everybody could stay. On top of that her complimentary condiments were expired. The beds need to be replaced.
    The hanger to hang your bridesmaids dresses is only meant for short dresses not long.

    The fridge in the saloon had to be used by the caterer for food, so there is not a fridge available for keeping drinks cold for the bar, I had to go buy big tubs to keep the beer cold. So there needs to be a commercial refrigerator for caterers only as well as one in the saloon.

    The extra parking is up the hill so all the extra cars that are parked will show up in your reception pictures.

    -Chairs for ceremony and reception
    I was told the day before to assign people to help move chairs in from the ceremony to reception area. I mentioned this to my wedding coordinator who contacted the property manager to which the manger stated that her and her assistant could move the chairs. After the ceremony one of my guests was seen moving chairs, while Kathy sat and watched. When my coordinator mentioned to Kathy about moving the chairs, she started yelling at her. My guests should not have to move chairs, some of them were in their 80s and 90s. If she is going to accommodate 120 people she needs to have 240 chairs.
    When I addressed all these issues the following day, she tries to bribe me with a free girls weekend at the venue, stating “I don’t want you to write a bad review”.

    Thank you for taking the time to send your comments. First, let me say that I am sorry your day did not go as you had planned, and it is our desire that our guests have a great experience.

    After being in business for over 7 years and hosting well over 250 successful weddings, I am proud to say that I've had an almost perfect record of excellent reviews....until this one.

    In response into Kristen Slay's review, I want to say that I'm so disappointed that this bride didn't have a great experience at my venue. This is very upsetting.

    My crew and I do our best to anticipate issues. Still, with all of the challenges & curveballs in this type of business, unfortunately, unforseen problems happen occasionally. In this case, there was no way to anticipate that the main electrical circuit breaker was failing.

    Please allow me to explain how things went that weekend:

    Friday 9/22/23
    2 pm- Kristen & her family/friends arrived at the venue, had their rehearsal, and spent the night. No problems at all.

    Saturday 9/23/23

    11:42 am - I received a call from the coordinator that the electricity was off. I figured it was just a breaker, so I asked the coordinator if she could reset it, but she couldn't, so I jumped in my car. NOTE: I didn't receive her matron of honor's voicemail until later because I was en route to the venue. I spoke to her upon arriving and assured her I would make it right. She did not have to do anything extra at all, and she was with the bridal party in the Guesthouse the whole time (thankfully, the Guesthouse was never affected).

    12:06 pm - I arrived at the venue, flipped the breaker & the power came back on. However, the breaker popped off again 30 minutes later, so I knew there was a problem. I immediately called an emergency electrician, who was there within 43 minutes.

    12:49 pm - The electrician arrived and told me the whole circuit panel was going out and there was nothing he could do right then without shutting off the electricity the rest of the day to fix it. This was not an option.

    It was a sweltering day, and my mission was to find a temporary solution to sustain power so the wedding & reception could go on as planned.

    2:15 pm - I called around and was able to rent two gas generators, and my assistant went to pick them up. In the meantime, all I could do was flip the breaker back on every time it popped off (which happened about every 30 minutes).

    3:30p.m - The generators were delivered and set-upset up outside. The electricity was off for about 40 minutes (not all at once) and another hour before I arrived = so in total, the electricity was off for less than 2 hours total during the 48-hour venue rental.

    The electricity never went off again after the generators were set-up at 4pm.

    4:45 pm - I hired a 2nd electrician to come and assess the situation. He was able to switch some things around that were double plugged in by the caterer & the DJ, which helped alleviate some of the electrical burden so that we could unplug one of the generators. The generator behind the barn was only used from 4 pm-5:15 pm. It was turned off before the ceremony started at 5:30pm and never turned on again. The second generator (on the other side of the venue) was only needed for one additional hour after that.

    6 pm- While not perfect in the eyes of this bride, the wedding and reception did go ahead as planned and all the air conditioners & lights were working perfectly. The wedding & the reception were both beautiful and her guests seemed to have a wonderful time too.

    Sunday 9/24/23

    11:37 am - The bride & bridal party left the property.

    Please allow me to address the other items that were mentioned in the review......

    We are a 'rustic' venue (it's in our name), and the venue was built with historic materials from the 1860s, and that is why people love the authenticity of the venue.

    I will review and discuss your concerns with my staff to see that they don’t happen again.

    This property is FAR from neglected. The venue is consistently serviced by a monthly pest control company and a weekly cleaning crew that thoroughly cleans the venue. Additionally, we employ a maintenance crew four days a week to keep up the entire property.

    The electric outlets and all wiring are routinely inspected to maintain the building code standards and meet Cleburne requirements.

    Because we are a rural venue that sits on over 4 acres of fields, we actively service the property and buildings for pests on a routine basis. Still, nature can elude us. As a result of Kristen’s feedback, we’ve increased our efforts by installing sonar pest control devices. This has never been an issue before but we are closely monitoring it.

    I have alerted my maintenance crew to be on the lookout for any nails/screws on the property.

    Unfortunately, I wasn’t notified of the cake concern until later in the evening, or I would have suggested the cake be moved the cake into the Guesthouse refrigerator if it was starting to fall. Thank goodness the cake was still so beautiful for the pictures.

    Our venue has always offered 3 options for chairs at our weddings, just as I did for this bride: hire my crew to move the chairs for your event for the very reasonable fee of $50, assign someone in your group to help move the chairs, or have each guest bring their own chair into the barn (my least favorite option).

    We are making a change to alleviate any issues going forward. So, all future weddings will include the nominal $50 fee, so my crew will move all the chairs in & out for guests.

    As a conscientious owner, my job is to assess the problems and try to fix them as quickly as possible so my guests can hold a successful event. This is what we tried to do for Kristen.

    The bridal party enjoyed the venue for 48-hours, from Friday to Sunday. We attempted to support them as a team and did everything possible to make the wedding weekend successful.

    I was surprised to receive a call from Kristen one week later (not the next day) asking me for a full refund or I would receive a bad review.

    As a reasonable concession, I offered a free weekend and even a partial refund for any troubles....but she declined.

    I am so disappointed that this bride was not fully satisfied. Looking back however, there was nothing we could have anticipated in advance or done differently that would have changed this bride's level of satisfaction.

    I wish Kristen & Jeremy all the best in their new marriage.
