Where do we even begin in expressing our gratitude and admiration for everything Cate did for us on our special day?! Not only did she capture the most breathtaking, exquisite photos that we'll treasure forever, but she also navigated some slightly complicated family dynamics with grace, empathy, and professionalism.
From day one of meeting Cate via Zoom, we knew that she was special and had to be a part of our wedding day. She always went above and beyond, making us feel like we had a true friend in our corner, rather than just a vendor. Her kindness, warmth, and calming presence put everyone at ease, even in the most tense moments.
Her talent, creativity, and attention to detail are undeniable, but it's Cate’s exceptional people skills and heart that truly set her apart. Our dream photographers! We were so excited to work with Cate and her assistant Kieran. We had an absolute blast taking pictures on our wedding day! They made the process feel so natural and easy—all we had to do was show up and be in love and Cate took care of the rest. They were both especially fantastic at always being in the right place at the right time to capture every planned and impromptu moment. They didn’t miss a single part of the day. And all of the photos are STUNNING. We were blessed with a beautiful fall day and Cate and Kieran knew exactly how to use that to make the pictures even more spectacular. Cate is simply the best, outside of just being a wonderful human, she is an extremely talented and experienced photographer. She was exactly what we needed as a wedding photographer, she captured every bit of emotion and happiness on our wedding day. She was our biggest champion day of, making the entire process stress free. She is very experienced in wedding photography and just does so much in the background to take care of every detail of the day. Her photographs are AMAZING, she somehow manages to be everywhere at once, and all her shots are just raw moments, nothing feels posed or staged and as a result you are left with beautiful photos that just showcase every emotion of the day.
Honestly, I cannot recommend Cate enough, she is one of the best in the industry. -

Beautiful photos, wonderful photographer!
We can’t say enough good things about Cate and why she is simply the best photographer you could find. We are delighted with the photographs from our wedding. We received a huge sneak peak just 5 days after our wedding. Cate’s photos beautifully capture all of the warmth and joy and wonderful moments of the day. More than that, Cate brings a great energy with her. She is an absolute professional when it comes to managing time and large, unruly families. She is also a fun, calming, easy presence to have around on a day with a lot going on. Her second shooter Kieran was equally professional and took some truly phenomenal photos of the groomsmen. Cate’s dedication to making wedding photography inclusive and comfortable for everyone truly shows through in her photographs. I will start my review with this: Cate is the reason we chose a wedding date and began to plan our wedding. The only thing I knew for sure we wanted on our wedding day, was Cate photographing us and she exceeded every expectation we had. From day 1, she put our mind at ease of her entire process and timeline. She made recommendations that 100% fit our personalities and vibe.
We are not people that know how to be photographed, we are awkward and silly. Cate celebrated the silliness and helped us not feel awkward at all. Before our wedding, we snuck away to take 1 on 1 photos, and it was such a gift she gave us. A few moments of peace and love before the real celebrating began. HUGE SHOUTOUT to her second shooter as well, they had such amazing attention to detail (caught that I had my hair tie still on my wrist LMAO)
After our posed shots on our wedding day, I feel l didn't see Cate or her assistant for a long time because they melded into the background and caught so many amazing beautiful candid photos that I treasure so much already.
Cate went above and beyond for us. She had fun with us, laughed with us, encouraged us when we felt awkward, and made us feel so special. She even knew how to capture the attention of our three dogs for a family pic.
Thank you Cate and team! If I could give you a million stars and planets, I would. -

Cate is incredible! She photographed our wedding in June of 2023 as well as our engagement shoot in May of 2022. Two of the main reasons we hired her were because of her intense inclusivity of the LGBTQ+ community and her candid photography style. She was not uncomfortable at all with us as an LGBTQ+ couple in front of the camera, which made us more comfortable too, and she was able to capture such special moments throughout the day that photographers who focus on posed and “traditional” wedding shots wouldn’t have.
Our engagement shoot was the first formal photoshoot we had ever done together as a couple, and once we told Cate this, she did such a good job at giving us direction on how to pose and where to look. She even has certain prompts of things that, for example, she had one of us whisper into the others’ ear to elicit certain emotions. Our top priority in our engagement shoot was variety, since we wanted to use the photos for our save the dates, our website, etc., and Cate took that priority very seriously. We shot at a park with a ton of different backgrounds/vibes and even did an outfit change mid-way through.
The day of our wedding, Cate came prepared with notes and a plan. She arrived on time and stayed on time throughout the day. She captured all the shots we asked her for specifically, plus a lot of special ones we weren’t expecting. She did an especially good job taking the large family photos we asked for, even with a whole bunch of people running in different directions! She also brought on a second shooter who had an incredibly similar style to hers, which was great for consistency across our photos from the day.
If you’re looking for a calm, passionate, detail-oriented photographer with a knack for catching the small, intimate moments throughout your wedding day (in addition to the big, exciting ones of course), Cate is your person! -

Creative, kind and inclusive!
We loved working with Cate and highly recommend her as a wedding photographer!! Something we really appreciated about her right away was that she wanted to get to know us both as people and really wanted to understand our vision for our wedding. We had an engagement photoshoot with her, which also gave us a chance to get to know each other and she gave us lots of prompts and creative ways to feel comfortable in the photos which made the session really fun! On the day of the wedding, Cate and her assistant Mimi were so supportive, flexible, and fun to work with! They captured intimate and emotional moments of our wedding as well as the general landscape/ layout of the wedding, which was exactly what we wanted. Something we really appreciated about Cate is her ability to capture the emotions and interactions among people and we really like that she took photos of the typical wedding moments (first dance, etc) as well s the more unique moments (the kids playing, the flowers, guests emotional reactions, etc). She also sent us a sneak peek video slideshow of the wedding photos only about a week after the wedding which we enjoyed sharing with our guests. Many of our guests have commented on how much they like the photos and also on Cate’s positive and unobtrusive presence during the wedding. She is not only a highly skilled and creative photographer, but she is also a genuinely caring and very inclusive person who strives to capture all people authentically and joyfully through her photographs. -

Cate is truly talented, from her warm personality to her artistic eye, she’s everything you need to capture the biggest day in your life. When choosing a photographer it is so important to pick someone who you feel comfortable with because they’re essentially spending the whole day with you, and from our first phone call I knew she was the one! You won’t find anyone more passionate and thoughtful than her. Even when we had a small blunder at the venue she stepped in and helped us out without hesitation. She captured the essence of our day and I’m so happy with how our wedding album turned out. I would hire her again in a heartbeat! -

It's hard to put into words how amazing Cate and her team was at our wedding in July 2022 and throughout the whole process. From the first zoom call with Cate we knew she was the photographer for us - she was warm, inviting, genuine and really wanted to get to know us. From there we never looked back. Cate was open to helping with all "problems" during wedding planning, we definitely leaned on her for advice related to photography and not because she has seen it all. I cannot thank her enough for listening to our silly ramblings, offering advice and helping to iron out details to make sure our day ran as smooth as possible. I even included a thoughtful piece of advice she gave us in my vows because it was that meaningful. The actual wedding day was a complete dream. I'm sure Cate makes all of her clients feel like superstars but from the moment she arrived she was my hype woman - I already felt great about the day but Cate just took it to the next level. Cate had such an impact on us that by the time we got to the wedding we could not imagine her not being there, she truly rounded out the day and gave us the best gift of all - pictures that we will treasure for the rest of our life! Cate and her crew were phenomenal! We met Cate and saw her work firsthand at a friend’s wedding. The photos came out so well that we hired Cate for ours, and they came out great as well. Cate is an incredibly kind and warm person with a great eye. Not only did they catch the right shots, but the post-processing was really great too. Cate has an eye for contrast and color. At our wedding, two of our dear friends are professional sports photographers and they were commenting very positively on everything Cate was doing too. You can't go wrong - THANK YOU! -

Oh where to even begin!!! From the moment we met Cate we felt immediately comfortable and deeply connected. Right out of the gate we laughed so hard and felt like we had know her forever. Cate took the time to get to know us individually and as a couple and made us feel seen and celebrated in a way that is so rare. Cate is a genius at evoking genuine emotion and capturing moments of connection. During our engagement shoot and at our wedding she was able to document the full spectrum of our experience in a way that made the ordinary become transcendent. Every one of our wedding photos rekindles a feeling. Cate noticed and photographed moments between guests or aspects of the day that we didn’t get to appreciate at the time because we were, ahem, focused on getting married. Going through the wedding album allowed us to relive that day from so many different perspectives. What a gift! I truly can’t recommend Cate highly enough. When my wife and I were looking for wedding photographers I kept thinking that so many of the pictures looked either like stock photos or the Goodfellas poster, and Cate perfectly matched the exact opposite of that energy. We literally rescheduled our wedding around her availability and would do it again in a heartbeat. She was a delight to work with; if she weren’t photographing the wedding, we probably would have invited her as a guest after the first few times we chatted over Zoom. And the pictures, of course, were incredible—both in quality and in sheer numbers. -

Cate Barry is the best, hands down
You must hire Cate immediately to photograph your wedding! She is an incredible photographer and perhaps more importantly a wonderful person to know and work with. We booked Cate for our August wedding and she made the entire process from planning to execution and follow-up so smooth. With few directives and limited group portraits (our choice) Cate took it upon herself to capture tons of intimate and fun moments with our friends and family during the celebration. Her and her assistant’s presence was unintrusive yet they were available whenever we needed them. When it came to our couple’s portraits, Cate gave us fun cues rather than poses that prompted us to be silly and romantic with one another. Rather than pulling us out of the festivities this gave us time to connect and honestly provided some of our favorite memories from the whole day. And that’s definitely reflected in the photos. Cate Barry is AMAZING at what she does! Her photos are so beautiful, and she truly has a talent for capturing real emotion and moments of connection between people. On top of that, she is so kind, genuine, and fun. My husband is not at all comfortable when cameras come out, and hates having his photo taken. Through her own brand of magic, Cate was able to get so many photos of his real smiles and expressions, and he felt relaxed and comfortable the whole time. When my husband and I look at Cate's photos of us, we can see and feel all the emotions we had in those moments, and we're not in the standard or cliched poses, we just look like us, having fun and being in love in a gorgeous setting. If you are looking for beautiful candid photos that center emotion and show you authentically, and a photographer with crazy talent, true professionalism, and infectious enthusiasm, I would 110% recommend Cate Barry! -

TL:DR - Cate is the absolute best wedding photographer and she was a joy to work with every step of the way.
As anyone reading this review already knows, looking for wedding vendors is not an easy task. Not only do you have to find folks that are available, but you need to navigate the waters of having the right fit to capture your special day. We originally had contracted with another vendor to do both video and photography, but thankfully that vendor double-booked us and bailed.
When Cate first reached out I could tell that she really cared about us. She asked about us as a couple, what this day meant to us, what our story was, and what our vision for the day was. Most vendors we spoke with got right to business talking about pricing and packages, and it was all very transactional. Not once did we ever feel like Cate cared about anything more than helping us make the right choice to capture the day.
Working with Cate was a delight from start to finish. She was organized, on-time, and always calm + collected during some of the more hectic moments. Not only did she help us get all the family pictures we wanted, she kept us so efficient that we even had time for more photos we didn’t think we would have time for. Cate was gracious with her time and even more gracious in her follow through. We received our photos quickly, and they were nothing short of perfection in every single way.
I cannot recommend Cate enough, and want to thank her so much for being such a wonderful person to work with. Thank you so much, Cate! -

Cate made us feel beautiful and seen throughout our wedding planning process, not just on the day itself!
I was lucky enough to meet Cate at a friend's wedding, and after chatting with her and then seeing the photos from that wedding, I knew I wanted to hire her for ours. I am by no means a model, and I'm more often than not taking photos rather than posing for them. So to find a photographer who made me not only comfortable in front of the camera, but made me excited to have my photo taken is pretty special. Cate was also super flexible regarding the scheduling of our wedding: our original wedding date was in August 2020, then we changed it to August 2021, and finally we changed plans completely and had a small wedding in May 2021. Throughout the process, Cate was encouraging, reassuring, and enthusiastic. I can't imagine our wedding being nearly as successful without her. In addition to being our photographer, she was our ally and has become a true friend. -

Our October 2020 wedding was postponed a year, but we couldn't wait to get married, so our mothers put together the most beautiful intimate backyard wedding for our immediate families. I originally told them that hiring a photographer was not necessary for such a small event but boy was I wrong!!
Cate made our day so incredibly special from our very first encounter with her all the way through post event. First, she recommended a Zoom call to get to know us/our families and lay out an agenda for the day, including a portrait list. When she arrived to the house she was patient, flexible, professional, kind, and overall just lovely, bringing such a light to the day. She was encouraging, making me feel like the most beautiful bride, and very thoughtful, knowing exactly which shots to recommend.
Cate is extremely generous. Her pricing is more than fair for the quality of service, she even stayed a bit longer than contracted and did not charge extra. When I decided to order a portrait she delivered it to my parents 20 minutes away to avoid shipping costs.
Cate is talented!! The photos are TO DIE FOR! My mom and MIL did such an amazing job setting up the most beautiful day and Cate captured it all wonderfully, not just the setting but the joy.
She then set up another zoom to walk us through our options for prints and albums. Her level of attention to customer service and ease of communication is unmatched.

I mostly despise having my picture taken, I always feel so cheesy. But Cate made us feel so comfortable! We had a blast during the engagement shoot, giggling the whole time. Trying to plan a wedding and do “normal” things during Covid was hard, but the engagement shoot was the perfect break from reality we needed. Cate is also just a really freaking cool chick. She’s down to earth and has a way of making you feel good about yourself without being over the top. Our pictures were beautiful. My parents came along to watch our dog and they kept commenting on how much fun it was to watch. 100% recommend. I can’t wait for our wedding! -

Cate made our small Covid-ized wedding a memorable experience! While is was only a few guests and the ceremony was short and sweet she made sure to remind my husband and I to savor the special moments. This truly made all the difference! Cate was so great to work with! We met up with her for our engagement shoot in March at the start of the pandemic, thinking things would be fine for our May wedding. Working with Cate was a dream come true. She did our engagement photos and our wedding. We loved her work so much that when we had to reschedule our wedding due to COVID, we picked our new date around her! Cate incorporates lots of natural movement into her photo sessions, which helps even those of us who feel awkward being in front of the camera feel more comfortable. The photos she made of our wedding not only perfectly capture the spirit of our wedding, but are beautiful works of art. She asked us in advance of the wedding about important aspects of the ceremony and other details that we wanted documented and sure enough, she got them all beautifully. She thinks about everything - from detail shots, to sunlight, to wind, to family dynamics, to COVID personal-space boundaries. The second-shooters she works with are also top-notch people and photographers as well. Nothing about her work cheesy or cliche like so much out there in the wedding industry. With Cate’s work, every single photo in the album is stunning which makes it so hard to choose what to print, frame and share! -

My wife and I did a photoshoot with Cate for our fifth wedding anniversary. She is amazing to work with and really put us at ease. We were worried about figuring out poses and things, but she gave us super-specific directions that led to absolutely magical photos. As a queer couple, we love that she found ways to position us that didn't play into gender stereotypes. I especially love how her directions actually helped us connect with each other — all the emotions in the photos are genuine, and it's so gratifying to have photos that feel like they really reflect who we are individually and as a couple. My wife and I met Cate through an engagement shoot promotion she was having at the time. Both of us really don’t enjoy having our pictures taken and we were so nervous! Cate made us feel calm and it was so natural. She was able to talk us through different poses and also just capture us being ourselves. We really enjoyed the pictures and asked her to shoot our wedding as well and we were sooo happy we did! She traveled to NJ for us. She somehow ended up being my sense of calm and stability while everything else was a moving part. She was always at the right place at the right time. 6-20-20 vineyard wedding
My husband and I were fortunate enough to be able to have a small wedding this year. We were supposed to get married in California but relocated to CT and met Cate through my sister in law who is a wedding planner. I have to say Cate was the BEST photographer I've ever met. She got people laughing and found joy in every moment and captured each one. The pictures we received made our wedding day, I can not say enough about her. She has a beautiful eye gets the beautiful candids and you can actually feel the love and like your in the moment in the picture, they actually speak 1000 words. Our family loved her and couldn't say enough about how comfortable they were. She made my husband and I smile like no other. I highly recommend her and will absolutely be using her for all my future photo sessions! She made our day so special and even more so with memories that will last a lifetime! -

My fiance and I won a free engagement shoot from her in 2019, and she was amazing to work with! We're a bit unconventional and are doing a pirate wedding and thus wanted to do a pirate engagement shoot, and she totally rolled with it! She found a spot in the area that was a great backdrop for our pics. We were comfortable with her the whole time. She's also LGBT-friendly. We ultimately booked someone else for our wedding due to our major (I'm talking major) budget restraints, but she was our second choice - her prices are fair, and had we an extra few bucks to spare, we would have hired her. I would definitely recommend her to anyone. -

Neither myself nor my fiancé has ever felt particularly comfortable in front of camera. Cate made us both feel completely at ease, spent most of our engagement session laughing and hugging and kissing and just having the most wonderful afternoon with each other. I don't know if I can begin to express how pleased my husband and I were with Cate Barry! We had Cate photograph us for both our engagement session and wedding. My husband is notorious for not being able to take a picture with his eyes open; he is also unbelievably shy. We knew Cate was the one when we left our session and he could not stop talking about how much fun he had. And that is what is so great about Cate-- she is so nurturing, calming, funny, validating. My friends and family are still talking about how wonderful she was to work with and made them feel, as well. Magical photos and a beautiful experience
We loved working with Cate!
My wife and I are queer, so it was important for us to find a photographer who would affirm, not just tolerate us. With Cate, we found so much more: someone who truly saw us, celebrated the uniqueness of our love, and intuitively understood our individual gender identities. It brought us so much joy to be photographed on our wedding day by someone who valued all of who we are -- and it comes through in our photos!
Our photographs are gorgeous: from the sunset couple portraits to joyous dance-floor candids, each one is a frameable piece of art that makes us smile every time we see it. We're already looking forward to having her photograph the next big moment in our lives. Thank you, Cate! -

She. Is. INCREDIBLE. Katie shot most of our candids for our wedding weekend in California in 2017. She is incredibly talented, infinitely patient, brought light into every space she occupied, and she LISTENS to people, not just hears them. She has a unique ability to capture the heart and soul behind every shot. There were so many joyous and beautiful moments she captured that we didn’t even realize happened—and we can *feel* the things our friends and family felt in those moments just from the pictures. Our third anniversary is coming up and as I revisited our photos, I was reminded of the joy of not just having her pictures afterwards, but the true kindness and care she brought to the weekend. She gave us the greatest gift we could have asked for: Seeing US and making sure our pictures reflected that. -

Wonderful and engaged wedding photographer
I cannot recommend Cate Barry enough! She is not only an incredible and creative photographer, but a wonderful person who cares deeply about the couples she works with. She is professional, friendly, and very communicative. She knew the right questions to ask us to get a sense of our vision for our wedding photographs. She also focused on us as a couple, trying to capture us as we interact naturally. She also helped us laugh and loosen up on a very stressful day. She was also quick to send us a sneak peak of our photos—we hadn’t even gotten back from our mini-moon! She was very clear about when she’d have photos done and ready and was wonderful to work with on our album. I could not have dreamed up a better wedding photography experience! -

My wife and I have had the privilege of having our photos taken by Cate several times! One of things we loved the most about her the first time she took our photos is how she made us feel so comfortable and at ease. She didn’t have us take staged photos and instead she asked us to interact with each other to help capture how we are as a couple. When my wife and I decided to get married, we knew we wanted Cate to be our wedding photographer! She is such a joy to work with, and we knew she’d capture our wedding the way we wanted to remember it! She took beautiful photos of our wedding that have been featured in a local LGBTQ magazine! We have recommended her to all of our friends who are getting married, and we are excited to continue to see her at all of our friends’ weddings :) -

I wish I could give you 1,000,000 star rating, but 5 is the upper limit. I can't thank you enough for capturing the most beautiful photos on our wedding day, and at the Terrace. You are so talented, and it shows in our photos. We will have so many amazing photos to look back on and cherish, and we have you to thank for that. I hate taking photos, but you made it comfortable, easy and enjoyable (maybe the margaritas helped too). I'm so happy Brandi recommended you to us. Cate Berry was awesome! We had planned on a certain date and due to COVID had to push it off multiple times to which she was very understanding and flexible. We picked the place and she showed up early to scout out the location so when we got there she had ideas of the areas that would work best for us. I was also 8 months pregnant and she was nice enough to include some maternity pictures. She was super easy to talk to and because we are armatures she helped us with poses, arm placements, and background/natural lighting. We were super pleased with the results and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for high quality, affordable engagement/wedding photos.
