    We utilized Carriages of the Capitol as our 'exit strategy' leaving our wedding reception.

    I had inquired with several similar businesses who offer horse drawn carriages in the Capitol area. Carriages of the Capitol were incredibly responsive and the most cost competitive (one vendor wanted $1500 for 30 mins!).

    We talked by email and phone on the details, and they worked with our venue on their parking needs. They were very flexible on our timing needs (we departed at 11:30 pm), arrived early to set up the carriage and ready the horse. The carriage was fairy tale beautiful and the horse was a sweetheart.

    The staff was great to work with and dressed the part.

    After leaving the reception, we rode through Capitol Hill and to our hotel. Honestly, the carriage ride was the most peaceful part of the whole day. We were done with our big day; we were married. We relaxed for the first time all day and let the horse do all the work.

    I rented a horse drawn carriage for the ceremony part of the wedding. Marcia was very responsive to my emails and knew all the details of what needed to be done at Stone Manor, so I basically wrote the check and didn't have to worry about anything. The poor horse got a little overheated before the ceremony, but recovered enough for the ceremony, and all of my guests LOVED that I arrived to the ceremony on a horse drawn carriage. This may have been one of my favorite parts of the wedding. I felt like a princess :)

    I hired Marcia and Carriages of the Capital for an Indian baraat ceremony. She was really helpful with navigating the process of getting DC street permits. On the day of the ceremony, she and her staff arrived early, were extremely professional, and knew exactly what to do - I'd definitely recommend Carriages of the Capital to others!

    I really enjoyed being able to have a horse drawn carriage for my wedding. Marcia answered all of the questions that I had regarding the service. I was very happy with the way that everything turned out.

    Terrible!

    I hired Marcia and her company to be my entrance and exit for my special day! What I did not know is that you need to get permission from venue as well as the city or municipality the event is taking place in order for it to be allowed. My BIGGEST mistake was trusting that such a company that is in business to perform such a service actually knows the ins and outs of the business and would have me (the consumer) covered on these types of things. Again, I am a consumer. This is not my business. Long story short, at the last second, we had to cancel the service because the vendor and city would not allow it. Marcia should have either checked this on her end, or at the very LEAST, informed us to check. And she should have a document for consumers to sign and/or the venue to state we checked and it is allowed. Once I found out it wasn't allowed, I contacted Marcia and told her, as we had already put down the deposit of $475. Even though she stated the deposit was non-refundable, I thought she would be a FAIR Vendor and refund our money since we were canceling due to no fault of our own. But NO, Marcia was not compassionate at ALL and REFUSED to refund our money. Instead, she offered to allow us to apply the credit towards a future horse and carriage. Are you kidding me?!?!? For WHAT other occasion would anyone want a Horse and Carriage!??!?!?! Just ridiculous! So now, Instead of enjoying my honeymoon, I am writing this review because of how she had a major hand in all but ruining my day! Unfortunately now, I will have to seek my refund through the court systems. Businesses that try to take advantage of consumers never win! Folk, do your own research before you hire this woman and her company! Because all she does is take your money...she does NOTHING as a business to inform, educate you, or cover you on her end!!

    I am sorry that Katrina feels this way and wishes to smear our business in this unfair manner. It was a great surprise to hear that the venue would not allow the carriage to deliver her via the driveway (have never encountered this in 20 years of carriage service) and upon further investigation I suspect there was an anti-carriage bias at play with the venue manager. Certainly if I were a bride and a carriage were an essential part of my special day I would have selected a venue that welcomed this part of my vision. It is not something I would necessarily expect my vendor to know - just as I would not expect my caterer to know the food sensitivities of every one of my guests if they were not otherwise told.
    When Katrina booked our services she was well aware that the retainer was not refundable, but I specifically authorized that if the wedding were cancelled or if the date was changed, that I would allow transfer of the retainer to an alternate date/occasion. Further, when this issue arose a few short weeks before the wedding and it became apparent that Katrina did not want us to deliver her to the street in front of the mansion (where Maryland law absolutely permits us to travel), and that she wished to cancel, I also agreed that if I were able to book her date, that I would refund her nonrefundable retainer. Due to the short time frame, this did not happen - though I had previously turned away several other events after she booked our services. This is more than most other carriage vendors would do.
    For the record, our carriages are in great demand for a number of other occasions - whether it be for the holidays, a birthday party or a neighborhood celebration - limited only by the client's imagination.
    I hate to disappoint any client, but Katrina's review is not a true reflection of our business. Our 20 successful years of excellent customer service are a much more accurate depiction.
