A work of art (and delicious!)
Choosing our wedding cake was one of the most fun parts of wedding planning! Rachel has crafted a sensational collection of cakes, creams, curds, and frostings that makes picking one or two such a challenge. Everything from the tasting to the design process to the finished cake was exceptional. She is a true artist and our finished cake exceeded every hope we had - it was beautiful and delicious! We are counting down the days to our first anniversary so we can enjoy the top layer of our cake! -

Working with Cakes by Rachel was an absolute dream! Rachel created the most beautiful and delicious wedding cake we could have imagined, it was by far the best cake we’ve ever had. Our guests are still raving about the desserts! We had almond cake shooters, caramel apple and strawberry rhubarb pies, chocolate chip cookies, cream cheese brownies, and vanilla macarons. Not only was everything stunningly beautiful, but the flavors were incredible. She captured our vision perfectly and was such a pleasure to work with throughout the process. We cannot recommend her enough! -

Absolutely incredible
Rachel and her team at Cakes by Rachel created the most amazing wedding cake imaginable! When we walked into our venue and saw our cake for the first time, we were absolutely wowed. Rachel had captured and elevated our vision perfectly (in particular, the sugar flowers were truly a work of art). And of course beyond its beauty, the cake was absolutely delicious. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how yummy it was (and I can't personally remember ever tasting a wedding cake that good), and we loved it so much we ate leftover cake for breakfast the next day. Rachel and her team were also an absolute joy to work with throughout the entire process of designing the cake. They made everything so easy and fun, and our cake tasting was a total blast. Rachel is truly an artist, and from start to finish, we felt like we were in the best hands possible with Cakes by Rachel. I cannot recommend Rachel highly enough for any couple looking for a wedding cake that is both stunning and delicious!! Go book Rachel if you are lucky enough to have the opportunity! (She was literally the first vendor we booked because were just that excited that she was free on our wedding day, and you should do the same :)) -

Rachel is great!
Rachel is a true artist! She was so amazing to work with for our April 2024 wedding in Charlottesville. The tasting and design meeting was both so much fun and also very informative as Rachel really knows her craft. She executed the exact vision I had for a cake and made it even better than I had imagined. Our wedding guests were lining up for more cake and everyone was raving about how delicious it was. Do yourself a favor if you are in the Charlottesville/Crozet area and hire Rachel! -

We used cakes by Rachel for our Wedding and its was wonderful. The cake tasting experience was so much fun and they did a phenomenal job of helping us identify options for making a truly unique (and delicious) cake. Since our wedding was in December we ended up going with a gingerbread cake that was so much better than I would have expected. We Highly recommend them! -

We asked for a grooms cake inspired by the blue ridge mountains and my sons love for the forest & outdoors. We could not be happier with how it turned out. We got the almond cake w strawberry filling and maple buttercream frosting and the flavors together were amazing and all my sons favorite flavors. Very professional and highly recommend for your special occasion. People are still taking about the cake! -

Delicious cakes & desserts
The Cakes by Rachel team could not have made the process easier for us and our December '22 wedding. Everyone we interacted with was professional, knowledgeable, and passionate.
We knew we wanted a small 2-tier cake with amazing flavors and texture, but we also wanted to provide a dessert table for our guests as well. Rachel & team created a fantastic sampler box with cakes & buttercreams for us to put together on our own, along with a few things we knew we'd want on the bar. Everything was delicious, fresh, and not overly sweet! When it came to cake design, when it's hard to put into words what you want, and Rachel is able to capture it perfectly, what more can you say?? We got so many compliments on all our tasty treats we couldn't have been happier.
In addition, the option to utilize display items from the bakery was an added bonus, as it meant everything would be plated in an aesthetically pleasing way. We're so excited that the bakery is local, and we will certainly be back for our anniversary cake(s)! -

Rachel was amazing to work with, and her design for our cake was beautiful! I had a few design things in mind but had no idea how they could be executed - Rachel made it happen! She took the time to meet with us to discuss flavors, designs, etc., which made the process so easy. We got ton of compliments on the design and taste! The other desserts her and her team provided were simply delicious too, as wanted to have a variety of options. We would use Cakes by Rachel again! -

Rachel's team was fantastic to work with. I changed the design I wanted like 2 months before the wedding and she took the direction and changed and it was so beautiful - not to mention delicious! We even had a second cake made (it was the groom's father's birthday) that all we told her was "he likes golf" and it turned out so cute! -

Working with Rachel was such a fun and delicious experience! We started off by signing with her, per our planner’s recommendation -- she swore she had the tastiest cakes around, and that’s what mattered most to us! As it turns out, her cakes are also GORGEOUS. What a huge bonus!
After that, we moved on to the part we were looking forward to the most: the tastings. We placed an order for a variety of mini cakes in to-go cups (this was during a bad part of the pandemic, so it couldn’t be in person). Each cup could either be from a preset menu, or our own custom creation from a huge selection of layers, fillings, frostings, and even liqueur flavors…I’m sure I’m forgetting even more options. While they were all delicious, the signature “Lindsay” flavor stole the show with its white chiffon layers, creme and strawberry compote filling, and white chocolate frosting. The tiramisu-style preset option (I forget the name) was a close second. Once we picked the flavors, it was time to start on the design. We came in with no clue how we wanted it to look, other than “simple,” “white,” “organic texture,” and “totally surrounded by flowers installed by our florist.”
As you can see from the photos, Rachel totally nailed it, and delivered something above and beyond what we were expecting! You can even see my husband saying “WOW that’s SO good” after we fed each other our first bites our Lindsay wedding cake. To our surprise, my mom worked behind-the-scenes with Rachel on a custom groom’s cake filled with the tiramisu flavor and styled to look like a frat cooler I made him in undergrad (IYKYK). It looked JUST like the real thing…we were astounded! Thanks Rachel for your amazing contribution to our wedding. Our only regret is not eating it even more!! -

We loved our wedding cake from Cakes by Rachel! Working with Rachel and Brittany in selecting our cake flavors and design was such a fun and collaborative process. Brittany was so thorough and organized and walking us through the entire booking and ordering process and Rachel was so creative and really helped us narrow down exactly what we wanted for flavor combinations (passion fruit! chocolate!) and design elements (macarons, ombre, rose gold) and ensured that everything worked together perfectly! We thoroughly enjoyed our take-out tasting and follow-up sessions with Rachel and were thrilled with how our cake turned out on our wedding day! We also ordered some gluten-free cupcakes to accommodate guests' dietary restrictions and heard they were awesome. Thank you so much, Rachel and Brittany, for the modern, fun, and crazy delicious wedding cake--our guests loved everything about it and we were so happy to have a cake that really represented us as a couple! We'll see you next year for our anniversary cake! :) -

We cannot recommend Cakes by Rachel enough! My husband and I originally had a June 2020 date, but because of COVID, we postponed not just once, but twice. Rachel and Brittany were professional and understanding throughout the process, and never made us feel guilty about our decision to postpone. My husband and I LOVED the tasting process, and Rachel helped us create the most delicious and most beautiful cake. She also helped us create a dessert bar because our favors were cookies that guests could pack up on their own. Everything was delicious and beautiful. Thank you Brittany and Rachel for making our day extra special! -

The Most Delicious Cake
The cake that Rachel made for our wedding was beautiful, of course, but it was also the most delicious cake we've ever had! Our guests raved about it and we can't wait to thaw out the tier we saved for our anniversary. The process of designing our cake and getting to taste different combinations of cake, filling, and frosting was amazing and helped us be absolutely sure of what we would be getting on our wedding day. And the shop in Crozet was adorable and so cozy! Rachel and Brittany were great to work with and were very accommodating when we had to postpone our wedding twice (!) due to Covid. Just be sure to nail them down and schedule your tasting early as they are in high demand (for good reason). -

Rachel’s cake was a work of art! She’s amazing at what she does and we highly recommend her for your wedding or celebration. Our wedding cake was absolutely gorgeous and tasted amazing too. See attached photo (from Aaron Watson Photography). Everything was on time and went smoothly. We had 3 different flavors in our tiered cake and they all tasted great. The pre-wedding tasting was probably my husband’s favorite part of wedding planning- LOL! Thanks for being part of our day Rachel! -

Cakes by Rachel provided us with a wedding cake and mousse cups for our wedding day. Everything was unbelievably delicious, and our guests kept raving about how beautiful the cake was! Rachel brought our rustic/romantic theme to life! The set-up on their tree-ring cake stands were unbelievably stunning and exceeded every expectation I could possibly have. In addition, Rachel and her team were so easy to work with during the planning process, especially with the constraints of the COVID-19 pandemic. The cake tasting was one of the best parts of our wedding planning experience. We really appreciated the variety and quantity of options we got to taste! We 10/10 recommend working with Cakes by Rachel for your wedding or event! -

My husband and I live out of state, so sent my parents to do our cake tastings for us. After they met with Rachel they knew immediately that we had to hire her, and I’m so glad we did!! We chose two different flavors and both were absolutely delicious, and the cake looked so beautiful on the outside as well. In addition to incredible cake, Rachel was also wonderful to work with. We had to downsize our April 2021 wedding due to Virginia gathering restrictions, and Rachel worked with us to make sure we got exactly what we wanted. We also used one of her cake stands, which helped make the whole process a breeze. Highly recommend hiring Rachel! -

I have lived in some of the biggest cities in the world (e.g. Chicago, Singapore) and I can honestly say Rachel's cakes are among the best. When our month-of wedding planner first said, "I have not known anyone who has tried Rachel's cakes and went with someone else". I was skeptical and wanted to be the exception. However, after trying Rachel's cakes, my now husband and I happily (and easily) went with the general consensus.
Since signing on with Rachel, she has also made my husband's birthday cake. His friends in Pittsburgh were raving and, to this day, still reminiscing about the Polina (Chocolate Sour Cream Cake filled with
Raspberry Curd, Chocolate Mousse and Fresh Raspberries).
For our wedding, we had both the Tamara (Coconut Cake filled with Passionfruit Curd, Coconut Whipped Cream and Fresh Strawberries) and Polina (see above). The day after, everyone could not stop raving about Rachel's cakes.
If you're ever in the market a cake for any occasion, go to Rachel. I know I am going back to her for our birthday and anniversary cakes. I love cake, and Rachel makes cake dreams come true. -

We are so glad we picked Cakes By Rachel for our wedding cake! I’m not usually a cake person but goodness gracious our cake was phenomenal. The cake tasting was definitely one of the best parts of the wedding planning experience. Rachel has so many amazing options and it was a blast to get creative with flavors. Well, the most important part is that our cake was delicious. And the second most important part is that it was beautiful. I will quote my grandmother in saying “I do not usually like wedding cake, but this cake is AMAZING!” I truly hope that, as a first anniversary gift to me, my husband gets me another cake tasting as Cakes by Rachel. The only reason we had a hard time picking our flavors was because everything Rachel makes is delicious. We also came into the tasting without the faintest idea of what we wanted the cake to look like but Rachel asked us about our venue and our vision for the entire wedding and then sketched for us the most beautiful cake. The real life cake was even more beautiful than we imagined, an absolute piece of art. The pictures speak for themselves! -

Beautiful and delicious!
Working with Cakes by Rachel was one of the easiest parts of our wedding! We worked together via email since we were a bit of a drive from her location and everything turned out beautiful and tasted delicious. Rachel makes cake dreams come true!
Rachel and her team are incredible! Some of the most fun wedding planning my mom and I had was mixing and matching different cake flavors, fillings and icings with Rachel. During our consultation, I had big dreams of a cake that had a huge macaron display on top after seeing a few pics on Instagram. Without hesitation, Rachel said she could do it and seriously over-delivered. I was THRILLED to see our cake on our wedding day and it was better than I ever could have imagined (and tasted good too)!! Thank you Rachel and team for everything! -

GO WITH CAKES BY RACHEL!
Rachel made a dessert bar and wedding cake dream for us. We started with a very simply design, but as I sent her inspiration pictures, she evolved our design and vision and made the perfect cake. Subtle and elegant.
She also worked with dietary restrictions (gluten free) n our dessert bar. Our dessert bart was a hit including, pecan pies, fruit tarts, cupcakes, brownies, and chocolate bites. -

The best cake
We were so lucky to work with Rachel for our wedding cake. The tasting was one of the highlights of our whole wedding planning experience. It was a really special time shared with our parents on both sides, tasting so many different cakes, buttercreams, and fillings to decide on our favorite combinations. Every combination was amazing and it was tough to pick just two for our cake. Leading up to the wedding, the cake was honestly one of the parts we were looking forward to the most and we made sure we got to actually eat our cake that night! The two combinations we picked were perfect: chocolate sour cream cake with cream cheese icing and buttermilk cake with local peach compote and bavarian cream filling. Typing this, I wish I could eat some now! We will definitely be back one day to have Rachel make us an anniversary cake :) Now beyond the cake actually tasting incredible, it was also such a beautiful centerpiece in our reception room. Rachel is very talented! -

Rachel made a 3 tiered cake for our wedding made up of two varieties (one vanilla buttermilk with raspberries & lemon and one chocolate sour cream with espresso & salted caramel). Our guests loved the combinations and Rachel & team were great to work with. We especially loved the tasting on a rainy winter afternoon in their cozy dining room.

Our wedding cake could not have been more perfect. In both execution and taste, it was exactly what we had envisioned! From the first stage of the process, Rachel was eager to learn exactly what we wanted and even more excited to play a small part on our wedding day. The tasting process was very organized and she helped to walk us though what each flavor was, what may blend well together, and to help answer any questions that we had.
The final result was grander and more beautiful than either my wife or myself could have ever imagined. Our cake was two layers—with each layer being a distinct flavor combination—and had gorgeous ornate decorations on the outside. MOST IMPORTANTLY, the cake tasted absolutely incredible! Even weeks after the wedding we had people reaching out to us to tell us how great the cake was. Overall, Rachel did a fantastic job and I would absolutely recommend Cakes by Rachel for a wedding or any event that requires a cake!

My husband and I absolutely adored our wedding cake. We went with a smaller cake and supplemented with other desserts, and Rachel totally knocked it out of the park. Rachel is a dream to work with!! Her cakes are insanely delicious, and designed so beautifully to exactly what we wanted. As a 'foodie' and someone obsessed with dessert, the cake was very important to me and it really could not have turned out better. It was beautiful but so delicious that I had 2-3 slices at our wedding, ha! She made the whole process so much fun and stress-free, from visiting her shop for our initial tasting (which was incredible - she brought out each cake flavor, frosting, and filling combo we could possibly come up with) through the designing and coordinating with our venue, florist, and planner.
We froze the top tier and had some at our 6 month anniversary (we couldn't wait!) and it was still one of the best cakes I've ever had. Luckily my husband is from the Crozet area, because I'll be wanting to order a mini version once we're all out!
Rachel - thank you so much for everything! Your cake continues to be one of my favorite parts of our wedding. Xoxo

Rachel and her team really brought our cake dreams to life. We wanted something smaller and simple, yet elegant and delicious! Man, did she deliver! Our cake was stunning, and was literally the most delicious wedding cake I've ever had. Last minute we asked her to design a specialty groom's cake, made to look like a pizza, and she nailed it! My now husband was overwhelmed by it! We'd highly recommend working with Rachel and her staff at Cakes by Rachel! And we'll be coming back for our anniversary to have our wedding cake again! -

Rachel was recommended to us by our wedding planner, and I'm SO glad we listened. From the beginning, Rachel was extremely kind and easy to work with. Our tasting was one of the highlights of wedding planning for my husband and me! We had so much fun trying all of the different cake and filling combinations in Rachel's adorable bakery.
Rachel really blew us away with the desserts she created for our wedding. She made us a stunning wedding cake - it seriously looked like something from a magazine. Not only was it beautiful but it tasted amazing. Rachel also made as these incredible mini pies to compliment our cake. These were such a hit with guests! Everyone especially loved the chocolate bourbon pecan pies. Rachel also makes the PERFECT and I mean PERFECT chocolate chip cookie. In fact, everyone loved them so much, I wish we had doubled our order!
At the end of the night, each of our guests left with a beautiful box of heart-shaped shortbread cookies, courtesy of Rachel as well. Again, not only were they beautiful but they were absolutely delicious.
Rachel is a kind, good-hearted person who was so fantastic to work with. Her desserts are not only gorgeous, but amazingly delicious as well. Her prices are very fair, which is rare to find in the wedding industry, and I really admire her for that. THANK YOU SO MUCH RACHEL!!!! -

Our wedding cake was to die for. My only dissapointment was that I didn't get to eat enough of it. Rachel and her crew did a fabulous job with our cake. It was a simple 8 inch vanilla chiffon cake with pumpkin mousse and cognac buttercream frosting. The cake was simple and elegant, just what we had hoped for.
We also ordered gluten free cupcakes and vegan cupcakes for a few guests, and they said they were amazing as well. Rachel was a joy to work with and I highly recommend her creations for your big day. -

Diana Sent on 12/15/2017If you're even debating between a different bakery and Rachel for your wedding cake let this be the review to sway you. Designing our wedding cake with Rachel was one of my favorite parts of wedding planning. For our first appointment she invited us to come to her shop to do a tasting. The most unique and best part of the tasting was that she didn't offer us a prepared cake, rather, she offered us various different types of cakes, icings & fillings that we could mix and match and play cake maker ourselves to develop the flavor combinations we loved the most. It was from here that she sat down with us and proceeded to free hand draw our cake (I've included her sketch in a picture below) and as you can see, what she drew was EXACTLY what we wanted and was exactly how it turned out. She's hands down is one of the most talented people I've ever met and really made our dreams come true with this cake.
If you're looking for alternative desserts, we also had Rachel bake us mini pies for our wedding.....our guests are still raving about them! :) -
