The food was incredible! We had an array of delicious appetizers for cocktail hour (pimento cheese with spiced pecans, fresh fruit, and sausage and cheddar biscuit balls). For dinner we went with a buffet, set up with a beef tenderloin carving station, herbed chicken breasts, fingerling potatoes, grilled veggies, a light and refreshing apple and fennel salad with artisan bread and butter. They also provided late night trail mix snacks to help keep the guests fueled! Everyone absolutely loved the food! I have been told by several guests that it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had! AJ cooked the meat and veggies on site over an open fire which ensured everything was fresh and delicious. The tenderloin was so juicy, perfectly cooked, and the horseradish sauce sent it over the top! One guest couldn’t get enough of the spiced pecan pimento cheese and has been raving about it ever since! Everything was so well thought out and executed. We would absolutely recommend AJ and Autumn for any catered event! They take a lot of pride in what they do, are responsive, courteous and very professional! Thank you for helping to make our day unforgettable! Love you guys! -

We used Black Bear to cater our wedding for appetizers, dinner, and dessert for about 70 people and couldn’t recommend more!! From the first communication figuring out the menus and amounts it was such an easy process. AJ helped with recommendations based on travel and what would serve well which I so appreciated the guidance. On the day of it was absolutely delicious. We served dinner buffet style and the food was hot being served for all the guests. Also for my (bride) and my now husband’s plate they made our plate with generous servings and brought them to our table first - so incredibly kind and thoughtful. AJ also helped me work through several food allergies from our guests. Truly enjoyed working with them from start to finish - such a kind team of people with a true talent for delicious food!! Absolutely recommend any day!! -

Black Bear BBQ was amazing to work with from the beginning to end of our wedding planning journey! They were flexible in what we wanted, our guests needs, and the food was so delicious people didn't stop eating! So thankful so the staff at our wedding too as they made sure to make separate platters for my husband and I, recognizing that we had not slowed down to eat yet, then they reheated it for us later when we were actually ready to eat.
Highly recommend going with Black Bear BBQ for any event and will definitely use them again in the future.

AJ and his team were absolutely incredible additions to our bachelor party. Their punctuality, enthusiasm, and seamless communication made the entire experience effortless and enjoyable. They were highly attentive to the group's needs, ensuring there was plenty of food for everyone and that everyone had a fantastic time. The highlight was definitely the full pig roast, which added a memorable and delicious touch to the celebration. Overall, they exceeded our expectations and contributed to a truly unforgettable event! -

We had Black Bear cater our wedding welcome party and they absolutely blew us away! As serious food lovers, we had high expectations—and they exceeded every one. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about how delicious everything was. The team was punctual, organized, and incredibly professional throughout the evening. One especially thoughtful touch: they made sure to set aside plates for us, knowing we’d be too busy to eat during the party. We absolutely loved working with Black Bear BBQ for our wedding in Black Mountain! The food was incredible—so flavorful, beautifully presented, and a huge hit with all of our guests. Everyone was raving about how delicious everything was, and we loved that there were so many great options to choose from.
One of the best parts of the experience was visiting the restaurant beforehand, trying a few menu items, and getting expert recommendations from the owner. They are so easy to work with! Their passion for great food really shines through, and it made the whole process so enjoyable.
We will definitely be visiting the restaurant whenever we’re in town—it’s just that good! Highly recommend them for any event or just a fantastic meal. -

Black Bear BBQ provided the best food for our wedding day. We originally booked with them because they somehow make truly delicious pulled pork AND vegetarian pulled jackfruit, AND a superb kale salad, AND to die for cornbread. And I'm very grateful we did, because not only were they extremely flexible when our guest count reduced after the hurricane, but they also went above and beyond to make sure our food was delicious even though they were dealing with water shortages and recovering from the hurricane themselves. -

AJ, his wife, and the rest of their team were fantastic to work with. AJ is an extremely impressive chef. He knows his stuff and is creative in his cuisine. I'm not typically a big BBQ person, but I trusted him and loved his menu, and it did not disappoint. He was very communicative and easy going. The food was delicious and the service provided by his crew was outstanding. They were friendly, professional, kind, and overall great. I highly recommend! (Go to their restaurant, too. It's delicious!!) -

Amazing food!
AJ at the Black Bear BBQ in Asheville was incredible to work with! He created a custom menu to include everything that my husband and I wanted which blended my husband's Cuban culture and my Southern likes. He listened to everything that we wanted, was always responsive, and was extremely flexible with our needs. Every guest of mine loved the food and my husband and I couldn't have been happier. If you're looking for flavorful food and want to ensure you're staying within your budget- AJ at the Black bear BBQ is the place to go! -

We hired them to cater our luncheon before our wedding rehearsal. Outside BBQ with Ribs, Chicken, cornbread, collard greens, baked beans, mac&cheese. Oh the food was delicious. They made our day perfect. We hardly had anything left over especially the ribs. They were just falling off the bone. They would be the one company we would hire again for catering. We wouldn’t go anywhere else for BBQ. -

We are delighted with the quality of food and service Black Bear BBQ provided for our wedding. From the incredible and beautifully crafted appetizers for our cocktail hour to the incredibly delicious main course selections and the helpful and friendly staff Black Bear BBQ was excellent. We would highly recommend them for any event, big or small. We will be using them again in the future for other events we host! The review from our wedding guests was that it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding!! We could not be more grateful for the entire experience of using Black Bear BBQ. -

AJ and his crew catered a wedding that I coordinated recently. The food was AMAZING but there's many more good things to say about Black Bear BBQ so keep reading! Some of the guests were vegan and some had Celiac's but AJ's spread offered something tasty for EVERYONE - which can be difficult for BBQ. He satisfied all of the couple's requests and more. He and his team overcame weather and layout challenges effortlessly and with professionalism. Definitely recommend these guys! -

We could not have asked for a better experience than working with AJ and the Black Bear BBQ Team.
My wife and I wanted something slightly different than the normal wedding cuisine. Our theme was Chic County Fair. We didn’t exactly know what that would like like at the time either, but a few conversations with AJ and we had the food all figured out. Our menu included mini corndogs, funnel cakes, smash sliders and grilled pineapples for hors d’oeuvres followed by the brisket (the best that anyone has had), jerk chicken and salmon for the mains. All cooked to perfection.
If you’re planning a wedding or event, you’re probably stressing about the food as food is quite literally the thing most people will walk away remembering, so we really can’t put a value on how helpful AJ and the team were at making this portion of the wedding so easy. Speaking of value, the prices were extremely fair. AJ doesn’t have price gouging in his bones, very much wants to please and will speak honestly about the pricing of the ingredients and what his service costs. No surprises. On the day of your event there is nothing more welcomed than compliments about your food and just about everyone took the time to rave about Black Bear BBQ.
If we ever plan another event of some sort, Black Bear BBQ is getting a call. Until then, we’ll be hoping for an invite to a wedding where Black Bear is catering.

Blackbear BBQ catered my wedding ant the end of August and I had a great experience! They were very professional and handled manning the buffet for all the guests as well as supplying the food. Dinner was absolutely delicious- we got pulled pork & chicken, sausage, Mac and cheese, potato salad and cheddar biscuits. They also serviced our cocktail hour with apps and it looked great set up, and the pimento cheese was amazing!! It was all delicious and everything stayed warm and I would highly recommend Blackbear BBQ.
