I went to Birks to buy my engagement ring. I scheduled an appointment for their design expo and took my family diamonds to be reset into a different setting. There was a ton of selection, the assistants were excellent - knowledgeable, polite, not pushy for a sale, and attentive - and I found my setting fairly quickly. It took about 2 hours for the jeweler to set my diamond on site and the quality of the ring is above and beyond. I went back for another design expo to have my wedding band made to match my engagement ring. I placed the order and received exactly what I ordered about 8 weeks later. The ordering experience was painless, took very little time, and went very well. I suspect, after some research since my wedding, that I overpaid for the materials of my wedding band, as I've seen similar rings or been quoted for a design exactly like my band at about 40% less than what we paid.

We decided to not buy my husband's ring at Birks because of the exceedingly high prices. My husband has a tungsten ring, which was purchased for 1/10th of the price as it was listed at Birks. Yes, 90% less than Birks.

Overall, I'm extremely pleased with my rings, despite paying way too much for them.

Birk's can be a bit expensive since they are a brand much like Tiffany. However, I would say that it is worth it. How can you say no to BIRKS BLUE® Classic Collection (hint, hint to all the guys :p). It is unique and beautiful all at the same time.

There is also a lot of professionalism of the workers as compared to other places like Ben Moss and Ann Louise. Also, you don't feel like you are "not rich enough" like at Tiffany's.

I highly recommend Birk's for a memorable wedding.

Firstly, the customer service has been nothing short of exceptional. Above and beyond what i experienced at cartier and tiffanys. What I am clearly disappointed with is the quality of craftsmanship after receiving my resized ring. The first time it came back, my diamond was completely loose, so we sent it back appalled. The second resizing was done poorly, having practically ruined the band with uneven thickness and poor polishing and the diamond was still loose. Sent it in a third time and we will see. Pricing compares with cartier and tiffany's, why can't they just hire master craftsman jewelers like they claim? With all their recent promoting of the highest quality jewelry, Birks should be prepared to deliver.

I purchased my wedding ring and engagement ring at the same time. One of small diamond fell off from my wedding ring in 2011, so I paid for repaired it. And last year it happened again.
    It's my wedding ring.
I'm not gonna recommend BIRKS products.

I will never buy from Birk's again, and will recommend everyone I know looking to buy jewelry the same. Terrible customer service (not to mention terrible value - if you buy from them - you ARE getting ripped off)...I do not know how they stay in business. They could care less about their customers. In this economy one would think they'd care, and would try to make a customer for life. They ruined my excitement over my wedding band; I will NEVER forget how disappointed I was.

Don't waste your money at ANY Birks store. Our experience with them was awful. Bad customer service, shitty product, and discriminatory staff. Make sure you look like a millionaire when you go in there otherwise they won't give you the time of day. They've sucked all the romance and magic out of wedding and engagement ring shopping for me.

I never thought I'd have this experience at Birks, had I known, I would If I had any clue how horrible this experience would be, I would have never gone there! We bought a $6000 18k white gold solitaire engagement ring there and had some of our other jewelry serviced there. Well, the white gold solitaire stunned us - within 3 weeks (!!!) the so-called white gold fade completely into a dirty looking grayish yellowing color. I am not exaggerating, all it took was 3 weeks. We had white gold before, and for several years it stayed white as it was supposed to. We were aware that the white color of the gold is actually a result of plating with a metal called rhodium. But three weeks?? So, we go in to the store and raise the concern. They tell my wife it's her "body chemistry"!!! What a bunch of bull!! Yes, perhaps it does affect the plating, but three weeks??? We're healthy folks, not ill with anything. And what a way to make a person feel like crap! We had the ring replated, heavy this time. The process takes 4 to 5 weeks because Birks does NOT have any service done in the city - everything has to be taken to Montreal! So we wait. And wait. The ring was supposed to be re-sized as well as plated. Finally it arrives. Shiny and white again, yes, but resized? No! So, now it will be another 5 weeks before the ring is resized, because the service stuff wrote the wrong thing on their order? No way! So they sped it up and had it done in a week. Wow. Wonder how they did that? Finally, we get the diamond back . Unbelievably, it started to turn yellow with the week again. Unbelievably! This time, we are asking them to just take the piece of junk and keep it. What sort of product are they selling? And what sort of explanation is it to say that the it's the wearer "body chemistry"? It's like telling an owner of a new car that the fabric of the seat in the car is ripping because of his "body chemistry"??!! It's crap! That's the real reason here! But the store refused to take ANY responsibility for the problem. They blamed my wife's body chemistry, they even blamed her other ring that the "white" gold was touching up against. Any stupid thing to excuse the fact that the white gold plating is of very poor quality. That true fact didn't even cross their lips. Finally, after, many conversations with the store manager, the agreed, very reluctantly, to reset the ring in a different gold all together. BUT THAT'S NOT THE END! Remember the other jewelry we had them service? Well, they returned the resized wedding band with strange blotches and spots on the inside, around where the resizing was done. Typically, a normal competent goldsmith will cut a line in a ring to resize it. NOT so here. They left clouds, blotches of yellow gold (on a white gold band), spots and dots around the resizing. When said we were not okay with that, that it looked like really poor quality work, the service staff tried to say that it was normal? Since when? Apparently at Birks it is! They did send it in, the ring came back without the blotches but the clearly incompetent folks over in Montreal took a part of a small inscription off entirely!!! This inscription overs one third of the band, but they somehow couldn't do their resizing and fixing elsewhere. And they did not repair it! Oh no! It was take another 5 weeks or longer, they told me. And plus, apparently we were informed that this might happen! That last bit is a straight out lie. Would you expect to be lied to by a sales or service rep at the reputable jeweler like Birks? We sure as heck didn't! We ended up taking the ring elsewhere and paying ourself to have the inscription fixed up. But, no, that's not the end of the saga... So, we start wearing the wedding bands after all that... and... well, no the ring is making a black line of on the ring finger!!! Unbelievable. Can't wear a wedding band from 10 years of being married now because it's been services by Birks. We tried to talk to them about it. The service staff's response was that since we are "the only ones" with the issue, I guess it doesn't matter? Plus, she said, all Canadian gold smiths use the same materials... Yeah, except this ring was resized several times in the past, by various Canadian goldsmiths, and it's never made my finger black before!

Bottom line: do NOT shop at Birks at The Core, and consider avoiding Birks entirely. I also highly recommend taking your jewelry to be serviced anywhere ANYWHERE but at Birks.
