    Cozy, forest weekend celebration

We are so glad we chose to get married at Big Sur Lodge - it was one of the few venues we found that allowed all of our Guests to stay on property together for the weekend. We were able to host a Friday night welcome pizza party for everyone to get to know each other, which was one of our favorite parts of the weekend. Our ceremony took place in the peaceful "Redwood Grove" just outside the restaurant, and we used both the indoor and outdoor spaces for our reception.

Best of all, they agreed to partner with us on an all vegan wedding. We had a taco bar and brought cinnamon rolls in for dessert.

Worth noting that the Lodge overall has very poor cellular and Wi-Fi service, which made it challenging to reach vendors. We also had some challenges with the responsiveness of the venue contacts through the planning process.

Overall we LOVED having our wedding here, our guests had nothing but wonderful things to say about their weekend, and the flexibility we were able to have made for the perfect wedding :)

Charming, Beautiful, and most of all... Delicious!

Holy cow! Dana at the Big Sur Lodge was the most kind, patient, and understanding vendor we worked with throughout our whole wedding. We had a very small, DIY-style day in mind that Dana got immediately. She’s got decades of experience in Big Sur’s wedding industry as a caterer and it showed. Her wealth of knowledge of the area’s vendors, caterers, parks, and other locations was a crazy bonus for us folks from down south that fell in love with the beauty of the central coast. Seriously, when we told Dana we realized our ceremony site was not going to work she immediately suggested the perfect place that we would’ve never found on our own. It made our big day perfect, we’ll forever be grateful for that. After the ceremony, we returned to the Big Sur Lodge for our reception on the Redwood Patio next to the river. We were blown away by food, it was incredible, people are still telling us they can’t believe how delicious dinner was. Dana’s giant special salad is not to be missed. Dana herself was there and helping us as well as guests to make sure everyone had what they needed and was having a great evening. Seriously, we can’t thank Dana enough for going above and beyond what anyone ever could for our wedding. If you get a chance to celebrate your big day at Big Sur Lodge, you won’t be disappointed.

Our rehearsal dinner on the Big Sur patio turned out just great! The food was good. The help was nice and responsive to our group. Dana, the event manager, added some flowers from her garden, which was a nice touch, for our out of town group. Prior to the event, email communication was not quick, but we had time and got all of the details worked out. The setting was lovely.

    Big Sur Lodge's reply:

Thank you so much for sharing your gathering with us. We hope to welcome you back to this beautiful redwood filled valley again.

I WOULD NOT suggest any bride ever use this lodge as their reception venue.
I should have know from the start when their event coordinator Sarah did not find my wedding important enough to give me the time of day. I got engaged in December of 2014 and started planning and trying to talk to Sarah in January of 2015 for a January 6, 2016 wedding date. She informed me on a number of occasions that she did not have time for me because I was a 2016 bride and she needed to worry about 2015 brides. I would let things slide because I knew that i had a year. But as time went on and she refused to be responsive I started to get upset. The GM tried to smooth things over, but it turns out there is no one at that resort who is competent.
They didn't get our room block together until June, when guest called to book in the room block most our guest stated that the front desk couldn't find our room block and they spent 20-40 minutes on the phone with the front desk staff trying to locate the room block and place my guest in the right rooms.
We went in August for food tasting because we wanted a Taco Bar which was not on their buffet options. The food we tried was great. The food at our event was not. Plus an entree was missing and they ran out of food, and never brought more to replace it. we had 65 guest at our wedding.
We prepayed for an open bar up to $2500 and requested only two types of beer and one red and one white wine be served to our guest. By 5 pm they had Already ran out of the beer we requested and they started just replenishing it with whatever they had. Which is not ok. When someone has an open bar and wants a specific beer, the venue needs to make sure that there is enough beer for at least that much money. They ran completely out of alcohol by 9, we had not hit the $2500 limit. Our event went until 930.
Our reception was from 3pm to 930. Not ONCE in those six and a half hours did a manager, banquet captain or GM come up to our event to check in with us.
