So personal. So perfect.

If you have a chance to hire Barbara Watts as the celebrant for your wedding you should do so without hesitation. Barbara transformed our wedding day into something extraordinary -- a day even more full of warmth, love, joy and laughter than it was already.

It's hard to describe how effortless she makes it all look. We met at a coffee shop, hit it off immediately and hired her on the spot. She asked each of us to fill out a pretty lengthy questionnaire ('how did you meet', 'what do you love about your spouse-to-be', etc.) and submit it to her directly without sharing the details with each other. It seemed like a bit of a chore -- until we started writing, and then the words just flowed.

Barbara took this volume of information and through successive collaborative edits and markups, forged it into a written narrative that both of us loved. (She is also extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the more mundane mechanics of wedding licenses, etc.)

But the real magic happened when Barbara stood before all our family and friends at our wedding. In her words that day, she didn't just bring our romance to life -- she brought the room to tears (and laughter) and had the same effect on us. We honestly were bowled over. I've never seen anyone take a story written by other people and so wonderfully retell it in her own calm, clear voice. It was simply beautiful. And funny. And perfectly us.

Many of our guests remarked on what an amazing ceremony it was. But the best compliment came several weeks later when a friend, reminiscing about our wedding day, said: "Oh, that ceremony felt so personal, I figured she (Barbara) had known you both for years, and that you had asked a close family friend to be your celebrant."

You would be very lucky indeed to have Barbara Watts as your family friend and celebrant.

Ms. Watts has so many positives in her favor, but the one that stood out for us was her insistence that she tailor our wedding to our preferences, and that the ceremony be a symbol of our love for each other.

We thoroughly enjoyed having her officiate at our wedding.

We were absolutely delighted with Barbara as our officiant! She crafted a wonderful, personalized ceremony for us based on our responses to her questions and her meeting with us. She added elements to the ceremony that were so right for us - where she had clearly absorbed all our information, and chose just the right things that reflected us so well. She also incorporated areas of humor that went over very well. We received many compliments on our ceremony. She was great at our rehearsal and had everyone knowing how and what to do for their role. She gave thoughtful suggestions for our wine ceremony such as getting a lower table so we wouldn't be blocked by it thereby improving our pictures/video. Even the cards she provided for our vows were first class and professional. She was so easy to work with and very responsive. She worked with our vendors ahead of the ceremony including providing music cues to our string quartet. Barbara was the one thing we were not at all worried about before our wedding day. We knew she would be there in plenty of time and would make sure she did her part to ensure we had the best wedding ceremony possible. We know she made our wedding her priority. We could go on but suffice to say that having Barbara officiate at our wedding was the easiest and best vendor decision we made and we can recommend her without reservation or hesitation.

Barbara was just wonderful to work with, and we were extremely pleased with our ceremony. Barbara was open to all ideas and offered wonderful guidance on creating our own ceremony, tailor made to fit everything we wanted, especially including our 4yr old son. Barbara was responsive and easy to work with throughout the process. During the ceremony she took her time, and even when my poor husband almost completely passed out (!) she kept everything going very smoothly. Even with that "dramatic event", it seemed like our ceremony was hardly disrupted, and for this we truly appreciate her, and our ceremony has become unforgettable!

We love Barbara!! She is absolutely fabulous and so easy to work with! We wanted a short, non-religious ceremony, and she delivered beyond our expectations. She is super detail-oriented, organized, and communicative. She is also punctual, patient, and flexible. She created a customized ceremony based on our answers to her questionnaire that is unique to us. Our guests LOVED Barbara and her funny stories during the ceremony and said it was the best wedding ceremony they ever been to. We highly recommend Barbara!

Choosing Barbara as our officiant was the BEST decision we made. From the very first e-mail, Barbara made us feel like family. She was so involved in our personal story and made a ceremony personalized to us. She was incredibly communicative and organized. My husband and I felt so comfortable with Barbara from the beginning. She made sure we had everything for our ceremony submitted and designed well before our wedding so we had absolutely nothing to worry about. She ran our rehearsal, and made sure everyone was on the same page. Our ceremony was the most beautiful half hour of our lives, and our guest could not stop talking about it at our reception. Barbara is a dream come true. We chose Barbara as our celebrant and it was the best decision we could have made. She met with us and got to know us as a couple and as individuals. After completing a questionnaire for her, she created the most beautiful personalized vows I have ever heard. The vows captured our story and the love we had for each other in the most perfect way imaginable. Barbara is kind, thoughtful, professional and responsive. Barbara was an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. My husband and I really wanted a very personal ceremony and Barbara executed that perfectly - I've had so many people remark on how beautiful and personal our ceremony was. She provided us with an extensive questionnaire that my husband and I really enjoyed filling out, and then took pieces of that and crafted a beautiful ceremony. Barbara made the whole process easy - from the initial meeting, to the planning and writing process, to the rehearsal and execution of the day we could not have done it without her. She was very flexible and accommodating , we had several last minute changes and added/removed pieces of the ceremony multiple times throughout the process and it was never a problem and she always had another draft ready for us within a day or 2. Barbara is truly amazing and it was a pleasure working with her throughout our wedding planning process!

I am that bride that actually really doesn't like weddings, so I wanted a short, sweet ceremony that was sincere but authentic to my partner and I. Nothing sappy. Short and to the point in a way that reflected what getting married meant for us. Barbara was incredible. She was receptive to our ideas and responsive to our suggested edits. She had great ideas for how to incorporate our son into the ceremony in a way that was meaningful to all of us. She didn't try to push any ideas on us that we didn't like and in the end we had a ceremony that was pitch perfect and totally us. Our small group of guests commented several times after how perfect the vows and readings were for my husband and I and our relationship. Barbara also made things very easy and didn't require a lot of back and forth. Very efficient, reasonably priced, and just a lovely person to work with. I highly recommend.

Barbara was an absolute joy to work with! We live in a different state so did not get to meet Barbara face to face until a week before the ceremony. This was not an issue at all for us though as she was so kind from our first conversation that we felt like she already knew us. She understood that while neither of us are religious we really wanted a meaningful and memorable ceremony that was more than just the 5 minute legal stuff. She had us both fill out extensive questionnaires separately to really get to know us individually and our relationship. She then sent us lists of potential readings, ceremonies, and vows. We were nitpicking details up until the last few days and she was very understanding. The final product was more than we could of excepted, we got plenty of compliments on how special our ceremony was, and plenty a happy tear were shed all around. If you are looking for someone you will feel comfortable with, who will help you craft a unique, touching, and memorable ceremony I recommend Barabara with no reservations!

Barbara was great to work with. She helped us with ideas, but was also very receptive to the changes and ideas we had. We even ended up with some last second changes that she incorporated seamlessly. In the end, the ceremony really reflected our relationship perfectly.

Barbara delivered a ceremony for us beyond anything we could have expected. We still have guests saying to us how well they think Barbara did. She drafted such a complete and thorough proposal that captured everything that was important to us, but then also respected our input as we worked together to make the final product exactly what we needed. During the event, everything went so smoothly. The entire time, we were assured that we were in the capable hands of a professional. Barbara takes so many things off your mind as a couple planning an amazing day. We could not have been more pleased.

We were so lucky to find and book Barbara especially because our wedding was fairly last minute. She was easy to work with and her rates are better than the other two officiants (who are also featured on this website) that I got quotes from who were not as personable, responsive, patient, or flexible. From our first contact I knew she would make our ceremony warm and personal. She had a lot of great ideas and readings for us to consider which was nice since we were a bit overwhelmed at first. There was also not much homework on our part which was a relief. From a quick questionnaire Barbara was able to put together a ceremony script that was absolutely perfect for us. The rehearsal was quick and painless. I'm so glad we had that time to go over all of the day of logistics the night before. And on the day of the wedding Barbara was early and ready to go. She was also dressed professionally but not stuffy. Our friends and family had nothing but rave reviews for her. We could not be happier with our decision to go with Barbara.

Barbara is not only an incredible wedding Officiant/Celebrant, she is also one of the most kind and caring people my husband and I have ever met! I wish more life events required officiants as I would choose Barbara over and over. Such a master and professional. I will be sad to not have to frequently chat with her! She crafted the most personable, beautiful ceremony we could have ever hoped for! Creative, engaging, responsive and brilliant are some of the many ways I'd describe Barbara and her service. She compiled information from my now husband and I individually and gave options for content and created the most beautiful ceremony I've ever seen. My friends and family continue to compliment how fantastic the ceremony was even today two weeks post ceremony! Barbara is a joy to work with and she is beyond genuine and caring in her regard for the couple, what they want (since its their ceremony) and she's a complete pro at the rehearsal with the family and friends and of course on the big day! My (now) husband and i definitely lucked out finding Barbara on weddingwire. She was the best officiant for our wedding and we couldn't be happier with the decision. Barbara was professional, responsive and most importantly, understanding of our needs and ideas to make our ceremony the way we wanted it to be. Barbara's process for creating the most customized wedding ceremony is impeccable and thorough. She provided questionnaires for us to fill out separately and also met with us to learn everything she can in order to craft a story, weaving in our important values and characteristics. The first thing we heard walking out of the ceremony into our reception from our guests and family was, "WOW!" Our family loved how personal and utterly unique our ceremony was, and that is precisely why we chose Barbara to do it. No one else offered to build us a ceremony from the ground up to make sure it was 100% our own. From our first conversation, it was clear Barbara is dedicated to her brides, super flexible, and highly empathetic with the right degree of firmness to make sure your family stays on task on the day of. She spent many hours with us crafting our ceremony, and she was quick to offer her time for a rehearsal, sitting in hours of traffic on a late night to get there without a second thought. She provided us with handy printed versions of our ceremony for the day of, so we didn't have to worry about a thing, and she also sent us a keepsake version, which was a wonderful final flourish. Thank you, Barbara! You are a gem.

What an amazing experience we had with Barbara! She is so sincere, personable, and professional. She answered calls and responded to messages immediately; met with us face-to-face to get a real sense of who we are, what we were looking for, and how she could best meet our needs; collected additional information through individual questionnaires; and then took all of that information and wove it into a beautiful, personal ceremony that was perfect for us. We had ample opportunity to review and make any tweaks we wanted. And then she delivered the ceremony with just as much personality and professionalism as she'd shown throughout the process. We have had many, many compliments on the ceremony. Another thing we appreciated was her active attention to involving and engaging both of us. In planning the wedding, so many vendors focused only on the bride, but Barbara was inclusive from the beginning and made sure we were both represented in the ceremony. We highly recommend her as a Celebrant!

I can't say enough positive things about Barbara! She is kind, warm and so loving - and I got all that from the first moment I met her. She is also incredibly passionate about what she does, and providing the best possible ceremony for the couple. She is flexible and works within your needs/wants, time frame, location, and desired communication methods. She is completely professional, but makes a personal connection as well, which is super important. I got SO much positive feedback about Barbara's ceremony from family, friends, and even the venue staff! And importantly, her fees are much less than other officiants I spoke to who don't give nearly the same level of service - which says to me that she is in this business because she loves it, not to make money. I am so happy we found Barbara, and so thankful for the unforgettable ceremony she delivered.

Barbara was a delight from the very beginning, she gave us a questionnaire that my now husband and I filled out separately and it asked questions that actually made my love even more profound. I also was able to articulate how much he meant to me and how much my family meant to me as well. I was stationed overseas for several years and my first marriage was in Korea, far away from loved ones and she grasped how special it was for both of us as veterans to have our families and friends in attendance. She took our words and made them into a lovely ceremony. So lovely, that many at the wedding said it was the best wedding ceremony they had ever been to. She was elegant and professional but also profoundly down to earth, a "kindred spirit." It isn't often you meet someone that you can feel comfortable sharing personal details with about your future spouse but with her sweet nature and kind words she made me feel as thought I had made a friend. I would chose her again and again. If you want a wonderful person, a wonderful ceremony and a sweet voice to conduct your marriage vows, I would highly suggest Barbara!!

Before I say anything else, let me tell you we got WAY more compliments on our ceremony than any other aspect of the wedding. It was totally "us," modern, non-religious, and perfect.

We loved working with Barbara during our wedding planning process. She was so warm, open, and understanding of all our wishes. She was the first wedding vendor who chose a date, place, and time for the initial meeting (at the Clarendon Whole Foods). To plan the ceremony, she gave us questionnaires to fill out, and that's where most of the ceremony material came from. She also incorporated all the aspects we wanted: passing of the peace, breaking of the glass, tribute to those not at our wedding, etc. She turned the first draft around promptly and made all our requested changes very quickly. On the day of our rehearsal, she was there before we were (!), listened to all our concerns, and smoothed over rough family edges. On the day of the wedding, she was early, in control, and ready to work, and she executed the ceremony perfectly.

In conclusion, we're so glad we hired her. She was a perfect professional.

Barbara Watts is amazing. I was planning a wedding while may dad was battling making cancer. She wrote the most perfect personalized ceremony. My father passed right before my wedding and she included his memory in the ceremony. If you want the perfect celebrant... She is the one 110% hands down. Words cannot describe how truly wonderful Barbara is. From the moment I first contacted her, I knew I made the right choice. I contacted her only a few weeks before my wedding. Despite being given a short amount of time during the holiday season, she was prompt and prepared. Our ceremony was absolutely beautiful and would not have been the same without Barbara's help. She is so passionate about what she does, and genuinely cares about her clients. Barbara was everything we could have wanted in an officiant. We selected her after seeing her a friend's wedding. It was the best ceremony we had ever seen. She talked about the couple and how they knew each other. I even went up to her pre-engagement and told her how great the ceremony was. As soon as we were engaged and had a date, she was my first phone call. She gives you a questionnaire to fill out and writes the ceremony based on that. Everyone loved it and raved that it was so nice to hear about the couple and how they met and fell in love. Even with the threat of rain, Barbara went slowly and made sure that the ceremony was not rushed. She was so responsive pre and post wedding and helped answer any questions we had. I would recommend Barbara to anyone getting married.

We contacted Barbara a couple weeks before our wedding day. She was able to accommodate us
on short noticed. She replied to all emails promptly and courteously. She provided us with many options , allowing us to get the exact ceremony we dreamed of. She was on time and performed professionally and our wedding day was perfect because of her.

We found Barbara online and chose her because she had a picture on her website which looked exactly like our chosen wedding location. Barbara was just amazing and accommodated all our ideas and wishes. She was always available for us before the wedding and the ceremony turned out just great. Many of our guests asked how we found her because the ceremony was so nice. Everything was well worded and we actually had fun during the ceremony. Everything turned out exactly the way we wanted. We are so happy that we found her.

Truly amazing!!! I got started late in the game. I literally found Barbara 3 weeks before our wedding on Wedding Wire. I read the reviews and decided to take a chance. Barbara made us feel as if we already knew her. We were very comfortable with Barbara. She listened to our vision and offer great ideas and suggestions for our vision as a couple. Leaving the meeting we knew we didn’t have to look any further. She was our first and only choice.

Barbara is very professional and good at what she does. She was always in constant contact with us and even when she had to leave town she kept me informed. We were both given questionnaires to complete and from that she created a ceremony that truly fit our personalities. Before the ceremony she met with everyone involved to go over the details so we could all be on the same page. As a bride I didn’t have to worry about anything. She took away all the stress and worries. Any last minute adjustments were handled by Barbara.

After the ceremony our guests were asking where and how did we find Barbara. They had never seen a ceremony performed the way Barbara performed it. She truly made it special. The guests learned more about us as a couple through the ceremony. Our guests are still raving about the ceremony to this day. A guest called and said they had been to plenty of weddings where people have spent so much money that are not memorable but ours is one they’ll never forget.

If you’re looking for an officiant who’s not in it for the money but has your best interest at heart then choose Barbara Watts. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. Barbara was God sent to us. We will never forget her.

We are SO glad we found Barbara! I wish I could give her 6 stars on responsiveness - she was the most responsive vendor we worked with through the entire wedding. We were very late in the process when we found Barbara and she already had a morning wedding our date but she was still willing to work with us! From the start we felt really comfortable with her (more so than with the others we met by a magnitude of a thousand!) and she worked really hard to get to know us and wrote the most beautiful ceremony. We got a lot of compliments on our ceremony and we heard a lot of people cried it was so touching. I loved that Barbara was very helpful with our rehearsal and was comfortable taking charge in a pretty laid back group. She was exactly what we needed and I would recommend her to anyone and everyone! I was sorry I missed her to say goodbye and thank her - Barbara, you're the best!!

Barbara was a joy to work with! My husband and I consulted with quite a few officiants before we found her, and before we had even left the meeting my husband was sure he wanted her to officiate our ceremony.

She is very personable, caring and considerate of your wishes as a couple. Barbara understands that the words she speaks are some of the most important in your whole life, and she aims to ensure that they are just what you want.

Barbara sends a questionnaire to ensure that she has enough of a background basis of information about the couple to formulate a thoughtful, heartfelt ceremony.

She sent us multiple readings to choose from, as well as let us find our own to use if we preferred them. She sent us the completed ceremony well before our wedding date so that we could read over and make any changes we desired.

She was involved in our rehearsal and early to our ceremony, and she got us the completed copy of our marriage certificate within a week of our wedding date.

Timely, professional, considerate and caring, the best qualities in an officiant we could have asked for!

In a word, Barbara was perfect! I had been having a really difficult time finding to someone to officiate the wedding and by some miracle, Barbara came into our lives. We could not be happier with the way our ceremony went - it was so absolutely us. Barbara was really able to capture who my husband and I are as a couple and convey this to our guests. Our ceremony was so personal, so special, and so one of a kind. Barbara was wonderful to work with. Look no further then Barbara Watts for a wedding officiant!!! I couldn't be happier the we found her. After having many issues with another officiant we were going to hire, we decided to look elsewhere. The moment I met her I knew she would be perfect for us. She was kind and heartfelt. She understood what we had gone thru and promised us we would have no issues with her. And she proved that above and beyond!!
Barbara will make your ceremony YOUR ceremony. She will send a questionnaire to both you and your spouse to be. You both fill it out separately and send it back to Barbara. From that she creates a ceremony that fits your personality to a tee. You have a chance to add and edit to make it even more true to you and what you want. My family and friends are still talking about our ceremony. How they learned more about my husband and I and how they took something away, learned something, from what Barbara said at our ceremony.
I don't know what I would have done if I didn't find Barbara. She was and angle to us. Every word that she said made me feel calm and relaxed. We had constant contact with her from the moment we decided to use her to the moment of the ceremony. Any question I needed answer, I heard from her is less then a day. She payed attention to ever detail, from the ceremony space all the way down to the DJ and the music that was being played. I couldn't have been more pleased with everything she did. She will always have a place in our hearts!
I promise you, you will not be disappointed in Barbara. HIRE HER!!!

Barbara was a dream. An absolute dream. We found her late in our planning (we had about 6 weeks to plan) and she made everything … stress-free, beautiful and most memorable. She even stepped up to the plate for some last minute tweaks when she found out that the wedding ring (that was en route via airplane) ended up in the wrong state. Joy. BUT. We immediately came up with a plan B and it was seeeeeeamless. And, actually, much more "us" than it would've been with the ring.
I'd recommend Barbara for any and every wedding. She's a lovely human being that truly has your love, your memories and making the most out of your special day at heart. She's definitely renewing our vows one day ; )
She was a God-send and a total gem.

We talked to several officiants, but knew from the start that we wanted to work with Barbara. She wrote a beautiful, personalized ceremony for my husband and me. Our guests couldn't stop talking about how lovely the ceremony was. She was also very organized and made sure that the DJ, photographer, day of coordinator, parents, bridal party, etc. knew exactly what to do so that the ceremony would go smoothly. She wore a lapel mic in our outdoor ceremony; I was worried that the guests would hear her stage whispering our vows to us, but no one did. Perfect ceremony.

Barbara absolutely SAVED us! We had scheduled with another officiant who then became non-existent and did not return a single email/call, and about a month before our big day we were scrambling, searching on Wedding Wire and came across Barbara. When I saw that she lived just up the street from our venue, we decided that this had to be fate! My now husband gave her a call, we set up a meeting and the rest is history. She took the time over a few meetings and a personal survey to get to know us, what we were about and what kind of ceremony we wanted. Barbara personalized the day and our guests noticed! We sat with her on more than 1 occasion and read thru the ceremony she had written for us, made edits and really got a feel for how things would walk thru on the day of our wedding. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone as a first choice! Those that do several weddings a week, pass by them and choose Barbara who is focused on the quality of the ceremony she is performing versus the quantity that others are concerned with.

What can I say about Barbara that would do her justice? Barbara saved our wedding. When we found out two weeks out that there was a mis-communication which resulted in a scheduling conflict for our wedding day, we started to panic. We needed someone fast. Same day I found Barbara and called her. She met with us that afternoon and graciously agreed to work with us despite the short notice. She stayed in constant contact, designed a ceremony just for us and made our day very special. I highly recommend Barbara to anyone getting married in the Northern Virginia/DC area. Barbara was absolutely wonderful! When we first met her, she was so genuinely friendly and wanted to help us with our wedding. She is EXCELLENT at responding to emails quickly. She has a wealth of knowledge but ultimately listens to what you want for your ceremony-just be sure to speak up so you get what you want. She wants it to be your day so you need to let her know. I felt like I didn't have to worry about anything as she took care of it all (it was nice not to have to worry about submitting the marriage license).

Barbara was an amazing officiant. Once we met her, we knew she was the one to do our ceremony. She made it very personal and we received many compliments on her ceremony. Even one of our vendors complimented what she did. There was not a dry eye in the house. We cannot thank her enough for such an amazing ceremony.

We worked with Barbara to officiate our wedding in Mount Vernon and she was wonderful! Our first meeting with Barbara she was eager to know us as a couple, and know our story even before she was hired. She was very prepared, providing us everything we needed to make sure our ceremony went smoothly.
