I couldn’t have asked for a better hair and makeup artist for my wedding. Both my mother and I were so happy with how beautifully she did everything—it turned out even better than we had imagined! Our hair and makeup lasted perfectly the entire day, from morning through the end of the night. We received so many compliments from guests saying how natural and beautiful the look was. She also took care of the groom's light hair and makeup and it came out great, with his hair secure for the photos as well!
Akiyo is incredibly friendly, professional, and talented. She always responded to my emails promptly, which I really appreciated during the busy wedding planning process. She is also excellent at doing makeup for Asian features. She did my first hair trial exactly as I had requested, and when I decided to change my hairstyle before the wedding, she kindly accommodated a second trial as well. I highly recommend her to any future brides looking for someone skilled, reliable, and truly wonderful to work with! -

Akiyo is a true Van Gogh for bridal make-up and hair. She truly listens to all the critiques and makes a true vision come to life. Akiyo was recommended to me through my matron of honor, who had Akiyo her big day two years prior to my big day on 09/20/25. I had my pre-wedding trial with Akiyo right after coming back from Cabo San Lucas, and she truly took into account that I had been tanning and not taking care of the canvas she was supposed to be doing a trial on. She listened to what I had in mind along with the hair extensions that I had wanted to use. The trial came out BEAUTIFUL, but we both felt like something was missing. Now granted, I had no idea what I was looking for and Akiyo guided me to looking my very best.
A few days leading to the big day, being the Type A bride I had come up with different looks, totally different from what we had agreed on during the trial. Akiyo, again the exceptional and patient woman that she is, took it all in great stride and said " Let's go for it but let us see what else we can do. If it doesn't look it right we will go another direction." I agreed with her 100% and knew she wouldn't let me down.
The BIG DAY- Akiyo and her team showed up bright and early as communicated and ready to tackle all 9 women (including two young flower girls). Let me tell you something.. Akiyo worked a true miracle on me and I couldn't even believe that I was looking at me. She held my hand when I was so nervous and I thought it was just because my stomach was upset and had nothing to do with getting married. Akiyo was not only my MUA but she had become a true friend that day. She stayed with me until 6pm for touch-ups. I couldn't be more proud of her, her team, and her true artistry.
She is so laid back and her team is just the same. Cool, chic, and very professional. Akiyo is someone you want there for your biggest day.

Absolutely amazing!!
I booked Akiyo for my wedding hair and it was beautiful!!!! She really took my inspo pics and brought them to life. She created EXACTLY what I wanted!! The hairspray was something else because it stayed the whole night—despite the humidity! It also survived all 4 of my outfit changes!!
I was absolutely amazed and cannot recommend her enough. All 7 of my bridesmaids and my mother also loved their hairstyles. It makes me so happy to know I am supporting an Asian Female owned business in this industry! -

We had a great experience working with Akiyo for our wedding. My husband, mother, and mother-in-law got hair/makeup done with her and all turned out beautiful. My mother was a last minute day of add-on but Akiyo was able to accommodate since we had time and made her look amazing! I've never seen my mom look better and now we know what kind of makeup suits her! My updo hairstyle was different than what I had tried during my trial session with Akiyo (which she specially scheduled farther in advance for me because of her vacation). My wedding day hairstyle turned out gorgeous with fresh flowers from our florist - so glad I chose this more elegant style (modern french twist). Communications with Akiyo were super smooth/easy and it was so easy to work with her for scheduling, questions, day-of set up, etc. I'd recommend her to anyone looking for more natural makeup looks (that's why I chose her after a friend recommendation who also worked with Akiyo)! Thanks so much Akiyo for making us all look/feel beautiful on our special day! -

Akiyo was a pleasure to work with. From the very beginning with our first email exchange, all to way to my wedding day, she communicated effectively and made sure that she understood exactly what I wanted!
I don't wear makeup regularly, and I can be quite particular. Akiyo listened to me deeply, respected my wishes while also providing her professional advice when she felt that it aligned with my desired outcomes. She not only helped me find my desired hairstyle and makeup, but she also took the time in brainstorming with me which location to get ready on the day of! I had originally thought that my apartment was too small, but thanks to Akiyo, who clearly listed out what she and her team would minimally need to do their work, we realized that the apartment was a possibility after all. This plan turned out super well, and we were able to save a decent amount of money from not needing to book a hotel suite!
Akiyo and her team are very skilled in their work. My mom and my three bridesmaids, who all wanted different things, were all super happy too. -

The best!!
Akiyo is amazing! She’s so talented and I couldn’t have asked for better hair and makeup for my wedding. I wanted soft, natural glam and she did just that. My face looked flawless, even up close, and the makeup stayed on all night (and even through the night because I didn’t have the energy after my wedding to take it off haha). It also felt lightweight, adding to the natural vibe. I have thick wavy and sometimes frizzy hair — that night, my curls lasted through the evening and didn’t drop, and there wasn’t one piece of frizz to be found! Akiyo was super nice, organized, on time, and really thoughtful about her work. She made my mom, sister and friend look great too. 10/10 recommend! -

Akiyo and her team were the absolute best to work with. Akiyo was super responsive to all of my emails starting from my initial inquiry, ideas for the trial, modifications for the wedding day, scheduling, and checking in about final logistics. She not only was super organized logistically but she was also incredible with the hair and makeup. The best for Asian faces in particular.
During my trial my hair didn’t hold the curls well so she recommended using extensions for the wedding, and it made so much of a difference. She made the extensions look so natural and beautiful. She was super detail oriented and the curls and makeup lasted the entire night despite me crying so much throughout the wedding. I felt the most beautiful I’ve ever felt.
And lastly, her and her team are so sweet, wonderful people. You can’t go wrong hiring her - it was one of the best decisions. -

Guys, when I tell you Akiyo is talented, she's really talented. As an Asian woman it's very difficult to find someone who does makeup that works for my features. I met Akiyo when she did my engagement makeup, and she ended up doing my wedding makeup as well. She was so amazing the first time around I didn't even feel I needed a trial - in fact I didn't even have a hairstyle picked out until I was in the seat. Personality matches her skill level - 10/10. I found Akiyo online and am so grateful that we found her. We were prepping for my stepson's wedding and were flying in from overseas for the wedding. Akiyo arrived on time, with the most professional looking gear I had ever seen. It was amazing to watch her get ready to "make us beautiful". She did the makeup for myself and my eldest daughter (15) and the hair for all four of my daughters. We all looked beautiful, and all the girls were thrilled with our hair (no small feat for teenagers!). My eldest received so many compliments on her hair and makeup the whole evening, she was glowing. I cannot thank Akiyo enough for getting us "wedding ready" and for making us all look beautiful. Akiyo is so amazing! From when I first contacted her to my wedding day, she was responsive, professional, and kind. We scheduled a trial, and afterwards, I had a few changes I wanted to make; Akiyo understood my vision and executed it to perfection. She was also flexible when a family member of mine wanted to get her makeup and hair done as well the day of. She made me feel so comfortable and made me look exactly how I wanted, staying true to myself. Makeup and hair stayed no problem throughout the day and lots of dancing! I would 100% hire her again! -

I unfortunately did not move forward with Akiyo for logistic reasons on my end; otherwise I would have. She was my first choice. She was responsive, very detailed in communication and technique, very patient, polite, and has a great portfolio for both hair and make-up (just look at her instagram).I would highly recommend Akiyo for any bride. Hopefully I will be able to work with her on a different occasion.

Akiyo is amazing! Love!
Akiyo was such a joy to have as a hair and makeup artist for my wedding. From start to finish she was fantastic and flexible! I don't do makeup that often, so during my trial I asked her to do what she felt would look best for my face shape and skin tone. She was very patient with me and open to my preferences as well. A few months after the trial, I asked to change my hair style, and she was very understanding! On the day of, she and her team traveled very early, and were very friendly and professional. She did hair and makeup for me, my mother, and my MIL. Despite not having done a second hair trial for my change request, she nailed it perfectly! She also did a fantastic job with my makeup - I got so many compliments on how she used the makeup to compliment my facial features. My makeup lasted the whole day and night (over15 hours) and even survived me crying during our vows. Akiyo was truly amazing both in personality and in her skills. Love her so much!! Highly recommend!
Akiyo is an incredible hair and make up artist! I’m so glad we hired her for my brothers wedding. She did the make up for my mom (mother of groom), my sister in law, and me. Each of us have a very different preference when it comes to our hair and make up styles (mom and SIL prefer more subtle make up) and I’m so grateful to have had someone who understood our style and tones so quickly and made everyone look so great! Everything stayed on perfectly all night despite the hot and humid NYC weather. -

Money well spent
After rigorous browsing and searching for a hair stylist and make up artist for East Asian skin, I found Akiyo. I do not regularly wear make up or style my hair and Akiyo made me feel comfortable, confident, and beautiful throughout the entire process of achieving a natural look. At the hair and make up trial, she made recommendations, asked for my opinion and my preferences. On the big day, my husband and I had hair and makeup done by Akiyo and everyone loved it. It was money well spent. -

Akiyo is extremely talented, meticulous & so good at listening to your preferences. She is very detail oriented, remembering every preference item I put down in the forms, to what I liked at the trial and didn't. She is fantastic, she was so flexible in our wedding trial, and then wedding day of. We switched our eye color since I was a bit more tan than wedding trial, she NAILED the hair too. Everyone was amazed in our wedding party of how talented Akiyo and her team was. I still can't get over how great I looked - natural but amplified, and MY MAKEUP STAYED ON ALL DAY from 10AM - 2AM (at the after party) still looked amazing.

Akiyo did my wedding makeup and hair for my special day!
I got the makeup&hair package for me, my sister-in-law, and my mother-in-law. I love my makeup and hair a lot. Did lots of awesome wedding photos, and all of them looks great! Akiyo was doing what exactly I expected, NATURAL~~!
I have dry skin, and I sweated a lot when I was dancing during the reception dinner. At end of night, no makeup breakup at all! It stayed as it was when I just finished my makeup and hair :))) Not saying that, Akiyo was super friendly and patient. My mother-in-law does not apply any makeup at all, and Akiyo was very patient to explain steps and makeup tips to her ( which I appreciated it a lot), made her very comfortable and happy! My sister-in-law showed her the hair and makeup she liked when she got married. Akiyo did a good job that makes my sister-in-law looked exactly like in her wedding photo!

Akiyo did my hair and makeup for my elopement at the Manhattan Marriage Bureau. When I contacted Akiyo, she was immediately responsive and gave me all the information: price, address, timing (at least 3 hours for bride). She suggested a trial, but because I live in DC, we had to skip it. I sent her photos in advance of my face without makeup and my hair the way that I wanted it done.
When I arrived on my wedding day, she had clearly looked at the photos and remembered everything that I was looking for. She did a really phenomenal job on making the makeup look natural. We had a photographer with us for the day, and he was really impressed by the hair and makeup (he would definitely know better than me). Akiyo was also a lovely person to talk to for the three hours that I spent at her apartment very early in the morning.
I highly recommend! I could not have had a better experience. -

I never wear makeup and I was so nervous about the wedding, but Akiyo is so professional and friendly that she made my wedding wonderful.
Akiyo was able to create a schedule for my wedding party, including 7 different services for 4 people, in addition to my bridal makeup and hair. She arrived at my home in Queens from Brooklyn by 6 AM and everything was on time for our 11:30 AM ceremony.
Not only that but everyone was gorgeous! Akiyo and her team are amazing. -

Amazing hair and makeup experience for my wedding!
Akiyo and her team were so incredible from start to finish. She was responsive, open to feedback and flexible and made me and my bridesmaids and moms feel absolutely stunning. Asian features and hair need specific attention when doing hair and makeup and I was super happy that I was able to feel so beautiful and confident on my wedding day without feeling like I was wearing clown makeup or caked on layers. I normally hate getting my makeup done but this was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had not only because Akiyo and team were extremely talented but also just such a warm and lovely set of people. Definitely recommend for people who are looking for softer natural look while feeling extremely glamorous! -

Perfect Hair/Makeup for the Perfect Wedding!!
Akiyo and her team did an amazing job for our wedding day! I wanted an updo with a loose braid and a "natural" makeup look and Akiyo truly exceeded my expectations! She told me exactly how to cut my hair so that it would be easier for what I was going for and when we recreated the look for the day of my wedding, it was just perfect. Literally EXACTLY what I wanted!! My makeup was perfect too, and the whole look stayed all night! I never felt so beautiful in my life! My guests are still talking about how stunning my whole bridal party looked. Akiyo is simply a great vendor as well, she was super professional and easy to communicate with. I’m thrilled I got to work with Akiyo! She is super talented and gives you the perfect glowy, long lasting, but natural look. I changed my hairstyle from my trial and she video chatted with me before my wedding day to ensure a seamless process. On the day of, I trusted her to do whatever she thought was best and I was blown away by the results. My hair and makeup lasted all night long with no touchups! I am so glad Akiyo did my hair and make-up for my wedding. She made it easy for me to share my inspiration, references, and goals for my look, both in writing and through a video call prior to the big day (I opted not to do a trial session). I wanted a "natural" look (which, I know, can mean so many different things to different people), but it was really helpful that Akiyo had a range of different interpretations of "natural" on her own Instagram account, ranging from other brides to fashion photoshoots. When we spoke, I also felt she listened with care and understanding and really made sure to get aligned with my vision for a natural, bohemian, soft, romantic, matte look. On the day of, Akiyo arrived early (at the crack of dawn, 6:30am), and we stuck to the schedule we'd set out beforehand. She was efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly, and as someone with skin concerns like acne and combination oily/dry skin, I felt very well taken care of and confident about my coverage, while not feeling super heavy or caked on with make-up. I also LOVED what she did with my hair, playing into my hair's natural volume, doing a beautiful half-up-do with braids and curls, and incorporating a last-minute "tiara" accessory that was really a necklace. By the end of the long day and night (I got my make-up done at 8am), I was pleasantly surprised to see that my make-up and hair had survived the cold (30 degrees), the wind, the tears, and the dancing. And it all came off really easily with my True Botanicals make-up remover. All in all, I'm really glad I booked Akiyo! The last thing I'll note is that I'm Korean, and the women I invited to have their make-up done by Akiyo were either Korean or white American, and Akiyo very gracefully handled all our looks, including looks for moms in their 60s who wanted very subtle, light looks. We all felt great! -

Bridal Hair & Make-up
Akiyo did my bridal hair and make up last Friday, January 14th. I was looking for a stylist in Brooklyn and found Akiyo through greats reviews online. I liked her hair and make up work on her clients posted in Instagram too. It was so easy to communicate with Akiyo and book my appointment. She replies promptly and provides detailed suggestions on preparations before the big day. I provided her sample hair styles for the low updo I wanted and also the natural mauve look for the make up. You have the option to book a trial hair and make up session too. My mother and several other guests complemented my make up and how natural (not cakey) it looked. Akiyo used an air brush technique for the foundation, highlights and bronzer… so happy with how it turned out. Will definitely book with Akiyo again in the future… Thanks Akiyo!🙂 -

Excellent Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist
I had Akiyo do my makeup and hair for my wedding day and it came out beautifully! Everyone kept commenting on how stunning and beautiful I looked. She has a warm, personable, sunny disposition that made the whole experience that much more pleasant. Her work is impeccable and I could not have been happier with the results. She cares and takes the time to listen about how you imagine you would look on your big day. As I was running out of the door, she was right behind me pinning a few loose strands up. Akiyo exceeded my expectations with her professionalism, kindness, patience, and high quality of service. She listened to what I wanted to achieve in terms of the hairstyle and makeup for my wedding. I was transparent that I hardly wear any makeup regularly and have limited knowledge about makeup. I was happy that we both worked together to find the best style that suited me during the trial. Akiyo did an amazing job with my hair and makeup and with my bridesmaids. As someone who doesn't wear a lot of makeup ever, the makeup looked natural and glamorous! She was even mindful to make sure I was comfortable with the fake eyelashes! Her pricing is reasonable and she was easy to book for the trial. Akiyo did both my hair and makeup for my wedding and I could not have asked for a better, more personable, kind, and awesome hair and makeup artist. Before the trial, Akiyo asked me about my preferences and for inspiration photos and she replicated and incorporated a couple of styles I loved that suited my style, hair type, and skin type. For the trial, and the day of the wedding, I truly felt beautiful and I had a great time talking to and getting to know Akiyo and her team who also did a fantastic job with the wedding party. If you want braids, flowers in your hair, natural make-up, or anything else, Akiyo is certainly your go-to person! She is incredibly organized and communicates via e-mail and phone - I always knew what to expect and felt very comfortable from signing the contract to waving goodbye right before my first look! Funny enough, I had experience getting my hair and makeup from Akiyo before my wedding day. She did the hair and makeup for my sister’s wedding a few years ago so I knew that her hair and makeup would last all day and all night AND look good. I was thrilled to find out that Akiyo was available for hair and makeup on my wedding day.
She was a dream to work with and I loved that during the entire process, she would listen carefully and adjust based on our preferences for hair and makeup, and make sure it worked for the texture of our hair or our skin tone. She really knows her makeup inside and out and was able to use that knowledge to make us look our very best and have it last all night.
It was a hot summer city wedding in a venue with no AC. My hair and makeup stayed intact the entire night. She was flexible with me adding more services as I got closer to the date and throughout the whole process. I would definitely book her again for any future events where I needed hair and makeup done.

I am so glad that I found Akiyo. I am half Japanese and really wanted someone who understood my Asian face to do my makeup. She listened to me and was incredibly meticulous with everything. I was also eloping so it was just me and her, and she was a really nice, easy going person to talk to while I was in the chair getting everything done.
My hair and makeup lasted the entire day (about 12+ hours) and I got lots of compliments, everywhere I went, from friends to strangers. Even when I took my hair down and removed all the bobby pins, my hair looked great haha!
If I ever need makeup and/or hair again I would absolutely go back to Akiyo. -
