We loved A&B!

We had our wedding at McKay Ballroom. Everything was super affordable, Sammy was wonderful to work with -she helped a lot with planning and was very professional.
The staff was great, we loved the pesto chicken and potato gratin!

Best Wedding Caterer!

Highly recommend Above and Beyond! Booking with them was easily one of the best choices we made for our wedding. Sammy made everything so easy for us, and the food was incredible!

Great job- it was a pleasure

Sammy and the staff is a pleasure to work with. Her willingness to be flexible, take into account our special need for guests with allergies and recommendations made our day special. We served 165 starting with the antipasto skewers(big hit), mini panini sandwiches and bacon wrapped chorizo stuffed dates. Dinner was the Lake Harbor Buffet with the beef medallions in bordalaise ( big hit with the meat lovers) and Tuscan grilled chicken( a must for chicken lovers), broccolini w/ garlic butter & red pepper flakes and garlic mashed potatoes (both were incredible). We had the coffee bar on the side and the clear gold beaded chargers which really made the place settings.
We received tons of compliments regarding the food and the service. If there would be one thing I might say is the food could have been a little hotter, but no one else said that. The food was fantastic. Strongly recommend A&B for your wedding.

I've never had better pot roast.

My spouse and I got married Oct 2024. We had Above and Beyond cater our reception and oh my lord the food. Everyone couldn't stop saying how great it was. Everything was awesome. You'd think getting buffet style pot roast it'd be dry, right? Absolutely not. Melted in your mouth tender. My biggest regret from the reception was not getting more food for myself with everything going on.

Totally recommend!

Working with this company was such a breeze. They responded timely to my emails and made sure I was always aware of what was going on. Bonus: They coordinated amazingly with my wedding planner!! The food was to die for. I would 100% recommend booking with them and would do it again.

Great experience!!

We had a great experience with Above & Beyond Catering! From the beginning Sammy was so helpful and responsive, and was able to quickly provide us multiple different quotes for our wedding. We did a take-away tasting which was very helpful in deciding what to serve. Everyone loved the appetizers and the meal, especially the stuffed dates and the bourbon glazed beef brisket. Would recommend!!

Wonderful Experience!

Above and Beyond catered our wedding in September of 2023! Sammy was an absolute pleasure to work with from beginning to end. She was very communicative and made the whole process very easy and answered any questions that we had. The day of the wedding went very smoothly and the food was wonderful. I as the bride only heard good things from our guests, and did not hear about any issues later on. We definitely recommend their services for any occasion!!

Excellent in every way!

We got married in August 2023 and used Above and Beyond for our caterer. We both agree that they did go above and beyond our expectations! We worked with Sammy from start to finish, she guided us through the menu options, prices, timeline and addressed every detail. In addition, she was quick to respond to any questions we had along the way, and she really made the process very easy. The staff members at our reception were friendly and professional and did an amazing job as well! In addition to all that, we are still hearing from our guests how delicious the food was! We would not hesitate to use Above and Beyond catering again and highly recommend them to anyone who has an upcoming event. Above and Beyond Catering is simply excellent in every way!

Incredible!

Absolutely GREAT food! The service before and during my event was exemplary as well. Sammy was great to work with setting everything up and Archie and Kylie were wonderful servers for the day. The prep area they used in my home was spotless when they left. I could not be happier. Just a fantastic experience!!! 5+ STARS

Such a wonderful experience,great food.

I was very nervous about the food. Having never had their food before I wasn’t sure what to expect. We had a rather large wedding so it was our biggest expense. It was absolutely delicious! Everything was first rate! Our guests were extremely complimentary regarding the meal. Everyone at A and B was very professional and very accommodating. I would definitely recommend them.

Their Name Says It All!

They are Above and Beyond Catering for a reason - they truly went above and beyond for us! The food was absolutely exceptional. People raves about the spinach artichoke stuffed salmon all night. The decor they provided for the buffet went perfectly with my vision. The service was phenomenal. You seriously can’t go wrong with this company. This is not your average wedding food and service!

Above & Beyond our expectations ;)

The Above & Beyond team LITERALLY went above and beyond and we are so grateful for them. First off the food was AMAZING. We chose various stations, each serving different types of food, and it was a big hit. We also had a s'mores bar with real heat, real fire! Our guests loved it and we are so happy the team was able to make that aspect work for us. Second, the decor pieces they incorporated onto each table...was not expecting them to be as beautiful as they were! Fit our theme to a T! Highly recommend this team as they blew our expectations out of the water.

Amazing food and service!

The whole experience from beginning to end was, honestly, perfect. Christi was wonderful to work with and handled any requests quickly. The food was amazing and the servers went above and beyond. The DJ missed some queues including having the bride and groom getting their food first. This team quickly assessed the situation and before we even knew what was going on they retrieved their plates and filled them up for them. While it is always the big picture expectations it really always comes down to the details. I highly recommend Above and Beyond Catering-their name truly says it all. I would hire them again without hesitation.

Above and Beyond Service

I hate to use these words, as I'm fully aware of how corny this sounds, but this catering team went way above and beyond the call of duty at our wedding.

We had some miscommunication about the desert delivery and service from another vendor, and the Above and Beyond staff got us through the whole ordeal even though it was outside of their original scope. Additionally, we were allowed to pick up the linens several days in advance (which really helped with decorating) and drop them back off to the caterer several days after (they were very accommodating).

The food was great, presented nicely, and absolutely no one went hungry. They were one of the few vendors we found who would do plated meals also. I love that linens, flatware, plates, and glasses and water table service were all included at no additional charge. There were gluton free and vegetarian options easily available. Overall, service was spectacular.

Above & Beyond Catering was an absolute dream to work with. They were so friendly and accommodating to our every need. The food was absolutely delicious and I am still getting compliments from guests to this day. Shellie and Kylie are the sweetest ladies you will ever meet... they really made my wedding day a dream. We are so happy that we chose Above and Beyond to cater our wedding. It was a joy to work with Shellie as we tasted and settled on the menu. She has such a wealth of knowledge and experience and is overall just a lovely person. We chose to serve a plated dinner with a choice of Beef Medallions with a Pinot Sauce, Bruschetta Chicken and Bean and Kale stuffed Portobello. We received so many complements about the food. It was delicious! She also helped us to set up the desert and coffee stations. The whole experience was exceptional! I would strongly recommend Above and Beyond for all catering needs.

Wow! This company truly went above and beyond to make our daughter’s wedding reception wonderful! Kylie M. was fabulous at taking care of our needs and nicely taking care of several changes made along the planning route. She was so professional and so very kind and personal, always with sweet words and always accommodating to help me plan the wedding in two short months. So glad I got to meet her on the wedding day! The food was fantastic and beautifully presented. Their service was excellent. The staff was so nice and helpful. Our guests loved the food and complimented it for days after the wedding. I will certainly be booking something with Above and Beyond again! You must do the same!

Mother of the Bride: We were over-the-top in love and impressed with Kylie M wedding catering coordinator! After researching many different catering companies for my wedding I decided to go with Above & Beyond and I am so happy I did!! Kylie Martolock and the A&B team were amazing!! Kylie was very responsive and organized during the entire time we worked together. She answered all of my questions quickly and updated our proposal several times as things changed throughout the process.

I received multiple compliments from guests at our wedding that the food was phenomenal! I would definitely recommend Above & Beyond to my friends and family. Thank you for all you do!

We worked with Above and Beyond (GR location on Knapp) for our wedding in April. Kylie and the staff was great to work with! Very responsive, professional, and helpful. They even went outside of catering and Shelli (the owner, i think) helped us figure out our bar to best help save us money, even though we did not use their bar service. They went beyond the catering and worked with our venue to help coordinate everything. The food was great. We went with a buffet and it was hot and we came no where close to running out! I would use them again!

If I could give this company one million stars, I would! They were EXCELLENT from top to bottom - food, service, setup, creative displays, event management, customer service throughout the planning process, ideas and excitement for my wedding theme...I can't say enough good things about them. Would absolutely 100% recommend to anyone who wants a catering service who provides exactly what they say they will, and can work with whatever budget you have! Love them!

We loved working with Above and Beyond Catering. Their name definitely speaks to how they handle business. We worked mostly with Dave, and he was so responsive to emails. The tasting was fun and almost an event in and of itself. The food was delicious - and we got to bring the leftovers home :). Multiple servers kept checking on my husband and me to see if we needed anything, and they even helped us get our food and carry it back from the buffet. It was nice little touches like that that made for a wonderful experience.

We loved Above and Beyond!!! We worked with Dave and Chelci and they were both fantastic!!! We did a family style dinner which everyone thought was so unique and easy. The food was amazing especially the beef medallions and mac and cheese!! Everyone was so full and said it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding!! We would absolutely recommend them!!

I had such a great experience with Above and Beyond! I especially enjoyed working with their event planner Dave. Everything from the initial tasting to the actual event was seamless, professional, and, of course, delicious. The weeks leading up to the wedding I was very busy and appreciated their ability to take the reins and put together such a beautiful event.

I have been told that the Bride and Groom never get a chance to eat at their own wedding. The food was so good I can tell you that not only did we make time to eat, but we also had seconds!

Above and Beyond really lived up to their name. We had our reception at the Oak Ridge Golf Club under a beautiful white tent. It was a great price, and great food. Honestly I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I felt like everything was as beautiful as I imagined, and having a plated dinner instead of a buffet made the whole reception feel so elegant.

I had my wedding in May of 2014. I chose to work with Above & Beyond because my cousin used them for her wedding and they did a glorious job. Whenever I had a question about anything during the planning process, from guest lists to decorating suggestions, I was eagerly assisted. I sent out invites and counted up my RSVP's, and I was suggested to assume several more would show up so that we didn't run out of food. Cut to the day of the wedding. A&B was at the hall first thing in the morning with staff, prepping food. They brought table linens and chair covers that matched our colors perfectly. Then, the worst happened. A lot more people showed up without RSVPing than we had expected. Shellie handled the situation like a champion, and everyone got fed. I was immensely impressed with not only the food that we had ordered, but the set up, and how fluidly a tough situation was handled. I know I will be recommending Above & Beyond to anyone looking to show their party guests great food, excellent presentation, and staff willing to do whatever it takes to make they special day a truly memorable experience.

We recently worked with Dave and team for out wedding. I have to say they truly live up to their name and went above and beyond to ensure that we had an excellent day with no stress!

What can I say about the food? Well, I've never been to a wedding where people literally Dave about how good the food is. At our wedding, we heard raves. They worked with us to create a menu that encompassed the classic (prime rib) to the fun (cheeseburger sliders and sesame chicken skewers). Everything was done to perfection and our only regret was that we didn't eat more (but what bride and groom actually get to eat enough at their own wedding?).

I highly recommend Above and Beyond and will certainly use them again if the opportunity occurs! Thanks so much!!

Above and Beyond did an exceptional job catering for our daughter's Feb. 20, 2015 wedding at St. Cecilia's in Grand Rapids, MI. The food was great, the service amazing, and the presentation was lovely. We can't say enough about the level of service provided by Shellie and her team at Above & Beyond. Our friends and family are still raving about the amazing food at our wedding! Shellie was beyond accommodating in creating our menu. She was also very responsive, as I never went more than 24 hours without hearing back from her. Her friendliness and professionalism was evident from the first conversation we had about our reception. Her willingness to try new things and add unique, custom items to our menu was so appreciated. She truly did go "above and beyond" in making our wedding reception perfect. Thank you!

Above & Beyond catered our event at The Event Center at Fricano Place, and we could not have been more impressed. When meeting with potential caterers, Above & Beyond truly stood out among our other options. They were professional, extremely organized, and totally willing to accommodate our personal preferences. At our first meeting with Above & Beyond, we received a detailed print with cost estimates and break down based on the number of guests we wanted, the buffet option we chose, and even included our appetizers. This was HUGE for us! We worked with Mary Beth throughout most of the planning process. She was fun, easy to get ahold of, and very organized. She responded to my emails within 1 business day and made our planning very easy. She even accommodated our last minute changes without any problem or fuss. During the event, the buffets looked great, and matched our wedding colors. We had TONS of compliments on the food, and had a really good variety of options for all tastes (including vegetarian). We elected to do the "kids plates" and they were a huge hit with the kids, and were actually served early which was great, as the kids were hungry! The onsite coordinator was very helpful and was attentive to our needs at the head table. Overall, we were very pleased with Above & Beyond, and would highly recommend them!

Above and Beyond is the PERFECT name for this catering company! From the first time my husband and I met Shellie (owner) we knew this was our catering company. We felt like family right from the beginning. Shellie knows her stuff, is funny, honest, and caring. The head chef, David, is also great and truly talented! He took great care of us during our food tasting. Amanda, one of the site supervisors, was equally as wonderful. We had absolutely no worries for the day of our wedding. We knew we were in GREAT hands! The food was EXCELLENT! Our guests are still raving about it. Although we got married in Holland, we actually live near Detroit....But if we lived out that way I would use Above & Beyond for all of my catering needs! I cannot say enough good things about this company. Their prices are great for the quantity and quality of food received.

Shellie and her team put together a beautiful dinner at Camp Blodgett for our recent commitment ceremony. Response time from Shellie was always quick, and she was truly enjoyable to work with. The food was delicious...we received so many compliments for the the brisket sandwiches, and the mashed potato station. People couldn't get over the chicken and waffles for sober hour either! Shellie was very understanding, and worked with it as we tweaked our menu to meet our budget.

Our reception was in the garden tent in Above and Beyond's Norton Shores, MI location. It was beautifully decorated and everyone at Above and Beyond was amazing! We had smooth sailing all the way from the initial deposit down to the wedding day! We did a lunch buffet and they even blocked off the evening slot so that we could have more time for our reception! They were truly amazing! I would recommend 1000 times over!

Everyone we worked with was so wonderful. Very helpful through the whole process. Office located in our venue (Goei Center) so very convenient. Food was AMAZING!!! We had so many compliments from our guests after. Staff was professional and courteous. Would highly suggest!

Dave was great at helping us decide on the menu. We did the duet plate which was perfect as one, we did not have to worry about asking everyone which dish they wanted for dinner. We served chicken and beef and our guests loved it.
The service and food was great. We selected them based on reviews as we are from out of state. We wouldn't have changed a thing.

We used Above and Beyond as our luncheon/reception venue after our noon ceremony.
Overall, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food we chose was outstanding, many of our guests went back for a second helping! Our son in law needs gluten free food, and the chef prepared a special meal for him! We were very pleased with the cost, incredibly reasonable. We would most definitely recommend Above and Beyond!

Thank you for a perfect reception. Even though you had to come 83 miles to serve all of us, everything was great....the food (and plates) were hot, the service was prompt and friendly, the staff was helpful and responsive to all our needs, and you accommodated the bride and groom's request to serve family style. The food was delicious and we got many compliments on the meal. The whole staff was friendly and helpful, friendly and kind. Thank you for all your work to make the evening one to remember.

Excuse my cliche, but Above & Beyond really did go above and beyond to make sure that our wedding was everything we wanted and more. First of all, the food was WONDERFUL! They had a tasting for us, and that was great to be able to get a sample of what the food was going to be like. Their menu is extensive and offers many different options - both foodwise and pricewise. We did the buffet with 1 entree and we received so many compliments on the food!

The wedding coordinator was also extremely helpful. He answered our emails and phone calls VERY quickly, and it was obvious that he had worked with many brides before because he had answers to all of our questions and made accomodations for everything!!

We had both our ceremony on the golf course and then our reception inside the main lodge and both were beautiful and everything that I could have ever dreamed of. A perfect venue and a great company to work with!! Also a great price for rental.

We were able to attend a large tasting event where we got to try all the food they can provide - and through that chose the food for our wedding reception. Dave was so helpful in helping us plan our event. I just wish there were better places in the building for the bridal party to get ready. We used the coat room, since we ended up with a beautiful 70+ degree day in March, no one needed to hang up a coat. I also wish that the bathrooms were bigger. You have to squeeze in the stall and rub up against the toilet to shut the doors (or the stall doors should open out). I'm a germ-a-phobe but I was not the only one with the complaint that "my dress touched to toilet when I shut the door." The bathrooms were visually clean, but it's just the thought. The bride would never fit in one of those bathrooms- I had to basically go outside to use the bathrooms that the golfers use for the handicap stall.

Working with Dave was great! His responses to my numerous emails were usually prompt and always thorough! He offered us some pretty phenomenal deals as our wedding was "off season" and we were also using Above & Beyond for our beverage service. Because of this we were able to offer our guests a choice of entrees (we had a plated dinner and the Above & Beyond staff did a wonderful job of serving each guests the entree of their choosing .... it took a bit longer than we would've liked for everyone to be served, but that may just be the nature of the beast when you have a plated dinner) as well as offer a signature drink. Dave did a great job of researching our specialty cocktail and offered us samples prior to serving them to our guests. They ended up going over much better than anticipated and we really appreciated Dave's help in making that happen! We also appreciated how closely Dave worked with our other vendors so that we didn't have to worry about any of the small details on our big day!

I received so many compliments on the site at the Butternut Event Centre, both in appearance, food and service. Many guests commented on how attentive the staff were to their needs. They also raved about the food, which was flavorful and well-prepared. The staff was supremely helpful during our preparations and for our rehearsal. I would absolutely recommend both the venue (as well as the one in Muskegon) and the catering (the staff caters many West Michigan venues).

They did brunch for dinner!

Above and Beyond really lived up their name! When I reached out to them, they quickly agreed to provide their brunch menu for dinner at our wedding reception. Homemade quiches, stratas, a waffle bar, potatoes, plus a delicious chicken and apple chutney dish, which was perfect for fall (and for those who can't get over having breakfast for dinner!). The hors d'oeuvres we picked were the chimichurri beef skewers, southwest chicken firecrackers and the tomato jam and goat cheese dip. They must have all been a hit because the only thing left by the time my husband and I arrived at the reception were a couple of the beef skewers, which were delicious (even cold!)!
Our guests were so excited to have breakfast for dinner and they gave rave reviews on the sugar waffles! Sammy was wonderful to work with, and quick to respond to any questions or requests/changes we had. The only thing I would say was a surprise was that we had to pay extra to have "dinner service" which included real china & silverware, and water service at the tables since the brunch package doesn't include this. The quality and taste of the food, plus the rave reviews from our guests made the extra cost well worth it!

Dave was soooo wonderful and helpful when I was planning my wedding! He always called me back and was soo flexable! The room was beautiful and we got it a good price. The food was good, it didn't come out exactley how was had discussed, but it still tasted good. By far the best part was working with Dave! Above and Beyond Catering did a wonderful job catering our wedding. The food was fresh and delicious, people are still taking about how good the food was. The only thing I didn't like was that we weren't allowed to take the food home with us which was a bummer because as the bride I was so busy I didn't have time to enjoy the food as much as I would have liked to. We rented the Garden Tent for our reception - the tent is beautiful and is overlooking the golf course. Again, even though the food was amazing during our tasting, I was worried, as we have all had wedding food and I have had some pretty awful wedding food! But not the case here - on our wedding night, it was just as good as when we had our tasting. The chicken was super moist, the beef was super tender and all of our sides were delicious! All of our guests commented on how amazing the food was all night and that made us really happy, because the food was a huge part of what we found important!

Beer is VERY over priced... $245 for a 1/2 barrel. We were originally given the "wrong" price list for alcohol. When we mentioned the proce difference on the menu we got and our banquet orders we were told those were the prices for off site service.... we were given these prices a year prior and had saved and budgeted based on the prices we were given.

2 Minors were served at our reception.

We were not told until 3 months prior to our wedding that we could not do shots for our dollar dance. We had been working with them for over a year!

Maribeth and Belinda were very unrepsonsive, we finally started working with Dave and things were better.

We are still waiting for a response from them regarding the issues we had had with our reception. It has been over 2 weeks!

My daughter had above and beyond catering for her wedding in November. The service was acceptable, but the food wasn't great. chicken was dry and mac and cheese was very over baked and clumpy. I would diffinitly not recommend above and beyond catering especialy for the price we paid and for what we didn't receive.

I hired Above & Beyond to cater our wedding on June 6, 2010 in Holland, Michigan.
We had met with Dave Hoogterp three times before the event, and each time he showed up unprepared with little explaination. (Example, he didn't have the wedding menu selection, the tasting didn't go as planned due to the fact that he couldn't warm any of it up for us to try) Furthermore, we had a tiny wedding (of about 50 or so people) and Above & Beyond ran out of alcohol!! They really seemed unprofessional and satisfactory at best with service. Lastly, the food at the wedding was mediocre. Overall I was unsatisfied, I had hoped the food/drink portion of the evening would go very well due to the small crowd, but I was disappointed with the level of professionalisim and service. Our guests had to be turned down for their first and second beverage selections. Think twice before hiring them, I had gone on previous testimonials saying they had award-winning service. Brides--Wedding planning is stressful, find yourself a reliable catering service!!

Signing up with A&B was easy and reassuring. That was the last easy part. A change in staff caused us to be forgotten (which they admitted). We did the preliminary stuff: payment, head count, timeline, and no complaints anywhere on either end. The day of the wedding: While lining up to enter, my MoC tells me “if we don't change the timeline for cake cutting, we are going to be charged extra" our photographer telling me, "A&B staff were complaining about staying an hour after dinner is done to cut the cake, they didn't want to stay that long." We changed the timeline for them. Service sucked! My plate (Bride) was taken from me before I had a chance to eat. After talking to several guests, their plates were also cleared before dinner was finished. We had a vegan plate created for my MoH, and when I asked for her plate, I was told "she will get it after the bridal party goes up." obviously a member of the bridal party, but had to wait. Second offerings were announced by staff, but no plates were available. They ran out of Chicken, even with having 20 no shows on first pass! Every vendor we had that night greeted us and gave their names; we never were approached by A&B. The other vendors saw the poor service, lack of emotion, of friendliness, and I had several negative comments from our guests. Our reception location offered 2 caterers. We choose them over the other caterer, though they were more expensive by $2-3 PP because we felt like they knew what they were doing. When I complained, I was basically told I was lying, and was given excuses. Then I was told "there was nothing they could do to make me happy, so they were just dropping the matter." They never tried to make me happy. Their performance was one of new company, not one that is to be established as they are. We paid for great quality, and we got less than mediocre. Not worth the money, not worth the hassle! Anyone would like to see emails; I have them for all to see, to prove the "I don't care" attitude!
