Great Outdoor Space
We were able to book Alverthorpe Manor at Abington Art Center last minute in August 2020 for our October 10, 2020 wedding. We were looking for a place to accommodate our guests outdoor due to COVID. We were able to host our ceremony outside and the reception under their covered Pavilion. Jeanne was really great with helping us as we booked the venue from out of town. She was able to give us a FaceTime tour of the venue and answer any questions we had. They had a bridal suite upstairs and also a room for the guys to hang out downstairs before the ceremony started, which gave us and our bridal party a space to hang out and put our things before the ceremony. We were able to use their white chairs for the ceremony and round tables for the reception, cutting some of our costs on rentals. They had plenty of parking for our guests. There was a slight issue with a main break the week of the wedding which put the bathrooms out of commission, but they were able to rent a high end portal bathroom at no cost to us. The grounds make for some really gorgeous photos.-

Amazing venue-beautiful landscape- ability to have wonderful wedding despite some rain!! Guests loved the place and beautiful pictures using the windows in the bridal suite, the woodsy areas, the staircase down in the lobby. Amazing areas for open bar and apps. Thank you to Samantha (coordinator) for making the magic happen! Affordable, but lovely place! -

Abington Art Center was the first venue we viewed and we immediately fell in love. Sam was fantastic to work with and helped us with every request. Sam was willing to work with our timeline, helped run rehearsal/the wedding day and any time we needed anything (including things we forgot at the hotel) her and the team found a solution. Our guests loved the Center, the art, and the surrounding nature. We did a lot of our own decorations including the flowers and the Center was more than happy to work with us. We could not have been happier with our selection. -

We had our rehearsal dinner and wedding at Abginton Art Center and it was absolutely perfect. The location is beautiful and provides a lot of variety if you're interested in an outdoor wedding with a good rain back up plan. Our guests raved about the space. Kimesha was our wedding coordinator and was very responsive and accommodating. She allowed us to drop off our wedding items a few days before the wedding which made set up so much easier. Kimesha was also helpful in setting up our laid-back rehearsal dinner the night before. We wanted something low key without having to deal with a restaurant. This was perfect and site fee was very affordable to allow us flexibility. The space has a bridal suite and groomsmen lounge. We were able to get our hair/makeup done in the bridal suite which negated the need for a limo. Just perfect. We had a blast
A slight hiccup with some billing issues and I think that may be related to a change in wedding coordinators mid-way through the process. However, Kimesha was eager to get the issue resolved and it turned out to be fine. Overall, I definitely recommend Abington Art Center to couples how want a unique space and are interested in an outdoor ceremony that has some structure to it. -

We absolutely loved everything about hosting our wedding reception at Abington Art Center. Their outdoor pavilion is a wonderful space with so much potential to create whatever atmosphere you are looking for. We kept it simple with our décor and used the lighting the center provides, including the bulb lights that are strung from the ceiling, which we loved. It was a little chillier that day (October 11) that we had hoped but the outdoor setting still worked because it has a solid floor and ceiling, and the open windows have curtains that can be pulled over and snapped so light is still let in but your guests are protected from the elements, and they can go back and forth undercover between the pavilion and the manor. The galleries inside the manor are great for your guests to explore, as are the sculptures on the grounds. We LOVED the sculptures as a backdrop for our photos, especially the proscenium arch from an old theater (aka the gold picture frame). The event staff was wonderful to work with and always available and helpful throughout the process. They have several preferred caterers to choose from - we used Curds and Whey and I couldn't recommend them more highly either - amazing food and service! We love being able to return to our venue for different events that they hold throughout the year - not everyone has the opportunity to go back to the place where they shared so many amazing memories. We can't wait to be there for their concerts this summer and reminisce about our perfect day. -

Abington Art Center was our last stop on a daylong tour of wedding venues, and it was---in every way---a breath of fresh air! We loved the building and especially the grounds immediately, and the staff's flexibility and friendliness put us at ease. Jody was a pleasure to work with, going out of her way to ensure than everything ran smoothly for us.
We held our wedding ceremony outdoors, with dinner and dancing in the pavilion---while the kids enjoyed lawn games. Our guests are still talking about how gorgeous and special the setting is. This is a wonderful place to get married, and an amazing value. -

It was a beautiful event, perfect venue - everything about the Abington Art Center was perfect. It was beautiful, elegant, perfectly situated, easy parking, wonderful staff. Steven, the young man at the front desk during the event was helpful, charming and delightful. Jody was easy to work with - and the catering selection (Curds n' Whey) was perfect. A perfect evening. Looking forward to hosting future events at Abington Art Center. -

We held our rehearsal dinner at the AAC on November 8, 2013. We absolutely loved the venue and were so happy to kick off our wedding weekend there! Jody Brookman was very helpful and responsive, and she always responded to my 4838474 emails within a few hours. She opened up one of the galleries that isn't usually used for parties to accommodate our many guests. I didn't have to worry about a thing and we are so appreciative. Thank you! We'll be sure to recommend the AAC as a venue to our friends and family. -

The Abington Art Center (AAC) was the perfect venue for our corporate event. We presented the first in a new seminar series from Discover My Potential (www.DiscoverMyPotential.com)... a lecture with three top speakers on Child Communication, Autism and IEP Review.
The entire team at AAC was incredibly professional and flexible. They did all the setup, provided a projector and screen, presented a full spread of refreshments and a table for registration. They attended to our every need and were incredibly accommodating when we needed to change some logistics as the size of the event grew.
Whether an indoor or outdoor event, AAC is a superior facility, offering amenities not found in other venues. I would recommend them to anyone hosting an event that wants to impress. We'll be back! -

I needed to find a very small venue to fit about 30 to 50 people, I came across the little abington meeting house and instantly fell in love with the place. It's small rustic and romantic and the price was right! Jody was fantastic and even allowed us to come in the day before the wedding to decorate which made our wedding day go by smoother. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a intimate, romantic setting on a small budget. -

We absolutely loved this place! The staff members are extremely helpful, pleasant and cordial. All our guests liked the place even though the weather wasn’t nice. There is plenty of space for the children to play around which makes it a very good place for kid’s parties.
Our event was my son's first holy communion. Please add that to in the event list -

Abington Art Center was the perfect location for our wedding! It was a really beautiful setting at 30-50% of the cost of the other venues we looked at in the area. The outdoor space is fabulous and we took some fun pictures in the sculpture park.
The team there is also great to work with -- Sharon was really professional and has great relationships with all of our vendors, making the day run seamlessly. -

Abington Art Center was the perfect venue for our wedding. Sharon, the event coordinator, was fantastic. The building itself was gorgeous, and the grounds are beautiful. The pavilion outside makes it easy to have an outdoor wedding without the hassle of having to rent a tent. We chose to have our ceremony out in the garden, the leave the patio untented for cocktail hour and have the reception in the pavilion. It was beautiful and all I keep hearing from guests was that this was "the best wedding I've ever been to"! Thank you Sharon and Abington Art Center! -

We chose Abington for our ceremony only. It is a beautiful location, and very reasonably priced! We did have a couple issues with communication, and that was during the transition in management of the art center. We had booked the venue very far in advance, and when the new company came in we had a few issues transitioning our event over. With that being said, everything went off without a hitch. They were very easy to work with and gave us extra time before and after the ceremony to set-up and breakdown. During the rehearsal Samantha was fantastic to work with, and she was great at coordinating everyone the day of our ceremony! -

We're still in the planning stages, however Abington Art Center is a lovely venue!! The team has been extremely responsive and helpful with all our questions and concerns.
One drawback so far. The events coordinator I had been working with for months is no longer at AAC and nobody called or emailed to inform me! However, as soon as I had questions or needed help with anything, Samantha (who is the new events person) was instantly helpful, introduced herself, and reassured me that they'll be able to take care of everything on the big day.
I'll update this review once the wedding has happened. :) -

I attended a Bat Mitzvah on Saturday night at the Abington Arts Center, I was impressed on how beautiful it was.
The party was setup with a large tent outside, a pavillion, and the inside rooms too - all very stylish and fun.
I thought the way the dining area was decorated was very tasteful. The food was good! There was a special menu setup on a cart, and a bartender to the side serving guests mixed drinks.
I took a picture of one of the signs at the party, this was a really creative way to show everyone where to go. If I was hunting for an event space, I would definitely consider this venue.

The Abington Art Center was the only place we could imagine having our wedding. Small enough to feel intimate, but tons of space for people to walk around and not be in a shoebox. We had about 75 people and it was ideal. They are not flexible at all with their policies, but it is outlined upfront in the contract. We were do it yourselfers, so it was a big undertaking to get everything done the day of the ceremony and then broken down and carried away directly following. Even with that, we would book it at the Art Center all over again. -

We received so many compliments from our wedding guests on our beautiful choice of a reception venue, and we couldn't agree more! We knew as soon as we walked into the pavilion that it was exactly what we were looking for - beautiful grounds to explore during the cocktail hour, and a classy (covered!) outdoor space for dinner and dancing. We communicated with Sharon and, after Sharon retired a few weeks before our wedding, worked with Brooke - both ladies were responsive and helpful. The day-of could not have gone better! We arrived at the Art Center after our ceremony to find all of our decorations set up (I believe the AAC worked with the florist to coordinate it all). They even figured out how to set up things that I did not leave instructions for, and when the night was over they had already packed most of our things away so we didn't have to waste more time than necessary getting everything taken down. It's a very DIY-friendly venue, and they help you facilitate it. They let us use the kitchen the day before the wedding to assemble our frozen desserts, and were happy to let us set up lawn games on the grounds.
I give them a small ding in points for value, simply because it was very expensive to rent the venue - especially since we weren't having both our ceremony and reception there. But, at the same time, we're really happy that our money supported such a worthy nonprofit. As for a half-point deduction for flexibility... truly they were SO flexible overall, but the one thing that was frustrating was that we had to clear out absolutely everything the night of the wedding - it couldn't wait until the next morning. It would have been much more convenient for us if we could get everything in the morning, but of course we do understand the policy.
Overall, we had a wonderful time and are so pleased that we chose the Abington Art Center as our reception venue! -

We received tons of compliments on how beautiful this venue was! Everyone loved the building, the artwork in the galleries, and the sculptures. The staff was amazing, courteous and professional. Sharon (venue coordinator) answered all my questions quickly and was there the entire night to oversee. The price was very reasonable and worth it. Only drawbacks - we had to take all our decorations (etc) away that same night (11:30/12:00pm), which was rather inconvenient. -

My wedding at the Abington Art Center was absolutely beautiful thanks to Jody Brookman and Joshua's Catering! I promise that if you're a bride that wants an original wedding that's not a cookie-cutter carpeted ballroom disaster, then THIS is your place. The art galleries are beautiful and the grounds in and of themself are simply stunning for a spring, summer or fall wedding!! -

Right from the start, everyone at the art center was helpful. If i ever had a question, someone was there to answer it or point me in the right direction. The venue is really flexible and i was able to bring in as many of my own decorations as i wanted. We only had one down fall, which were the rain covers in the pavillion. No one knew how to tie them down securely, so it was semi chilly. We got married in the end of May, so who would have figured it would have been cold! The workers also couldnt figure out how to use the heaters... Other than that, everything went smoothly! The grounds are beautiful for pictures, and the inside is as well! The caterers were aweomse! We used Curds-N-Whey and loved them! We had countless compliments about our food, and venue! It is a truely unique place that we all enjoyed! It made our day super special and different! Perfectly tailored to our tastes and styles! -

The venue needs to be freshened up prior to a venue rental. The trashcans were overflowing, toilet paper was on the floor, dirty paper towels on the sink, and personal items on the counter. I asked the receptionist to refreshen the bathrooms which was done right away. I wish it were done from the start. I felt weird asking someone to clean a bathroom.
Overall the venue is great with a covered pavilion in case it rains which it did. Plenty of space for our 120 seated guests. -

This venue was extremely flexible with my ceremony and reception. They also assisted me during my rehearsal. Great landscape and great people to work with for your special day. -

I grew up in the Abington area and I never knew of this little gem. I just got engaged on Valentines Day of 2013 and I had my wedding at the Art Center 4 weeks ago at the Art Center. My engagement was 100 days long and the Art Center was quick to adapt to my steadfast needs. The grounds were beautiful and made for a relaxed, fun wedding! All of my guests were so impressed with how beautiful the facility was. My husband and I love that it is a BYO because our options for alcohol were nearly limitless--which makes for a great time! We used one of their exclusive caterers, Curds 'N Whey and could not have been happier with the menu and service they provided. I would absolutely recommended the Abington Art center as well as Curds 'N Whey! -

We had a rare experience with the Abington Art Center for our wedding, they changed staff many times throughout the course of two years. This made the professionalism and communication very inconsistent. However, once Lydia became the event coordinator she graciously fixed any outstanding issues we had of inconsistency. She was very easy to work with, helpful and professional. We worked with Joshua's Catering company who not only was extremely talented in cuisine, but also very accommodating. The venue itself is unique, gorgeous and allows you to have a personally special event. The value of the space is amazing and we were very happy with our wedding. -

The space at Abington Art Center is gorgeous and our wedding came out beautifully. 2/3 of the way through our year of planning, the Event Coordinator at the venue changed and we were not pleased with the outcome. She was frequently rude and very unorganized. She would often follow up with me several times and ask the same questions over and over again. She also did not show up for our rehearsal and really had no idea what was going on the day of the wedding. She was extremely unhelpful but we were still thrilled with the way our wedding turned out! I still recommend the venue, just beware of Sam Mower, the event coordinator. -

We absolutely loved the building, the location, and the stunning photos we were able to capture despite our wedding day being so rainy. The pavilion worked great for our ceremony and reception area. We rented heaters (for an additional $400) since it was quite chilly. The best part was that the Art Center had recently undergone quite a transformation, having been painted and renovated a bit right before our wedding. It looked really amazing with those additional touches!
Unfortunately, we were not happy with Sam, who we did not originally book with. She tried to nickel and dime us for every little thing. We were fined $100 for having cigarette butts in the flower beds when the smoking locations were both located in areas that were not covered. Were our guests supposed to get soaked in the rain in their formal attire? Additionally, my cousin went around and picked up every cigarette butt that could find in order to help us out, dirtying his hands, and Sam still fined us. It was very unprofessional. She was often not dressed professionally when we had meetings with her, and was very forgetful about important details of our wedding day (that my bridal party would be arriving in the morning to get ready... which she also tried to charge us for). I am in the business, and I was not impressed with her.
Ultimately, we would absolutely book at the Art Center again based solely on how beautiful and unique the Manor House is. The spiral staircase is incredible for those brides that want a great shot as they come down the stairs for their ceremony. There are so many rooms with such character that there are so many opportunities for beautiful photos. Although our ceremony had to be inside due to rain, the view of the Manor from the bottom of the hill alone is worth it to book here, and is what ultimately sold is on the venue. Not to mention the woods on the property filled with beautiful artwork. There are just countless opportunities for some really unique wedding photos! -

The venue itself was beautiful. Unfortunately, it rained on our wedding day, but the pavilion was still beautiful and our guests enjoyed everything.
We were a little disappointed with the service. The event coordinator told us some conflicting information when we toured with her vs. on the actual wedding day (e.g., the location of the bridal and groom suites).... nothing major. I was a little surprised when she did not show up for our walk-through the week before (the caterer was also surprised). It would have been nice if she had shown up as or at least told us she wasn't coming.
At the actual wedding, she became very annoyed when my friends/bridal party wanted to help set up the space. I understand that it is her job, but it was our day and we wanted to be a part of the setup. She also seemed annoyed in general every time I asked her a question. She charged us $100 for a handful of cigarette butts. Honestly, if she told us about it beforehand, we would have picked them up ourselves.
Overall, their staff seemed a bit disorganized. They did not send our security deposit back 15 days after the event as stated. It was mailed over a month later (and after I sent multiple emails). However, they were very apologetic for the delay. I wouldn't hold another event there myself, but it is still a very beautiful location. If you do choose Abington Art Center for your wedding, I would suggest asking many questions for clarification on all details. -

We got married - So I guess good job
Overall they got the job done. But they said they would have plastic walls up, but the day of they said that they were in storage and basically Joshua catering and Alverthorpe kept passing the blame between them. When I don’t care, I just wanted insulation during February. The heat lamps you sold us were useless without walls.
I wouldn’t recommend them. -

We had our wedding at AAC in September 2013.
During a visit to AAC a few months before the weeding we noticed that they installed a large, intrusive banner with their corporate sponsor’s logo on it on the side of the outdoor stage. Who would want this visible during their wedding ceremony or in their wedding photos? We asked and AAC was unwilling to take it down for the wedding. We had to settle for an alternative ceremony site within their campus.
Our next problem was discovered the week before the wedding during an onsite visit with the caterer. We found that a 3' x 40' strip of grass right in the middle of our new ceremony site was missing! Apparently there was a wedding there over a month prior and they laid a runner down to create an aisle way which killed the grass and turned the area into a mud pit. I attempted to contact the Private Events Manager but her office was closed at the time. I was able to reach the Executive Director of AAC and she understood the situation completely and assured me that new sod would be installed before our wedding and that the Private Events Manager would see to it. The next day the Private Events Manager called me and after I offered to help source and install sod, she became very disgruntled and threatened to hang up on me! She also said that until she received our final payment, the problem would not be resolved. How unprofessional! They never even sent us an invoice for this payment! Later that day we went down to AAC and paid our balance in full and met face to face with the Private Events Manager. She never once apologized for the way she spoke to me on the phone but told us that they were attempting to find someone to install sod and if they couldn't get anyone they would remove the banner on the outdoor stage so we could have our ceremony there as we originally planned. If they would have just removed the banner in the first place, the whole mess could have been avoided!

We had such a bad experience in planning our event, that we moved it to another venue despite losing our deposit in full.
Our problems were centered around flexibility, expectations, professionalism and costs, and related to both AAC and one of its exclusive caterers. A large part of our problem tied to AAC's lack of support when we had a conflict with this caterer.
I should have done my due diligence before booking this venue. It turns out that our problems with both the venue and caterer were not unique.

My fiancé & I had met with the Sam back in August to view the property to have our wedding ceremony there. She went over the cost & showed us the ceremony sites she even mentioned that we could decide on the ceremony location 2 days prior to the event & the backup location would be the pavilion in case of rain. In November I spoke with Sam again & asked to pay our entire balance of the contract in full. Based on our conversations the contract was paid in full months in advance.I contacted the art center again in March to find out when I could drop off the Arch we bought for our ceremony. At this point in time I found out that Sam was no longer employed at the center. The new coordinator Lydia had trouble finding the information to our event. Not only was she not aware of the type of even we were having but she now said that if we wanted our ceremony at the concert location we would have to pay additional fees &rent chairs. If this was the case how could we possibly rent chairs 2 days before our wedding? I informed her that we paid in full & our contract even stated that chairs were included & no additional fees were communicated to us. She said that Sam probably agreed to those terms but they could no longer honor that. My finance & I were so upset that this was being communicated after we had spent so much time discussing our event and planning it. Now they were no longer willing to honor the contract. They even told us they weren't willing to honor anything Sam had agreed to with us. We had a contract how could you add additional fees especially being 4 months away? The worse part was they couldn't even tell us how much more they wanted to have our ceremony outside. They gave us a range for a setup fee & said we had to rent chairs. I even specifically remember asking Sam to see the chairs since we looked at a different site earlier that day & that was one of the reasons we picked this site. We ended up canceling & finding a more accommodating and organized site -
