Annie and David are amazing and we are so fortunate to have had them as our engagement and wedding photographers last year. I rarely take any photos but Annie and David made the process so natural and fun. They directed me and my husband for poses that felt whimsical and turned out so beautiful. They also coordinated so well with all our vendors from our wedding planner, MUA, to DJ. They really were on top of all communication and helped the day run smoothly.
Annie and David definitely went above and beyond in every way possible. My husband and I didn’t have a specific spot designated for sunset photos on wedding day. But Annie and David had come prepared w a backup plan just in case we needed it. They planned a route to drive to from our venue for photos at bodega bay. It wouldn’t have been easy to find on our own. But of course they made it all feel so natural. The photos came out amazing, and it was all thanks to their planning and coordination. Oh, and during our get ready photos, I had lost one of my wedding earring posts, and was silently super bummed I couldn’t wear them. But Annie was on her knees crawling to find them. i kept telling her it was okay, but she was lovingly persistent and of course found them and made my day. I’m so thankful for Annie and David; they truly made a lasting impact full of fun memories on our special day.
We just picked up our wedding album and the photos look even more amazing in print. Annie and David were so patient with our tardy and indecisive photo selection process. I’m so stunned by the quality of the all the photos. They even gifted us a beautiful glass usb so we can keep the photos forever.
I can’t wait till our next big event so we can be honored to have them as our photographers again. Thank you Annie and David!

Look no further!
We had a truly flawless experience working with Annie and David for our wedding photos. Our initial meeting had the casual nature of a conversation so that we could get to know each other while also being thorough in terms of the overview, expectations, and options they shared with us. They went above and beyond to get to know us, including asking for our engagement photos as well as photos we loved so they could gain an accurate sense of what we wanted our wedding photos to look like. As we approached our wedding date, they asked us about lots of day-of details that we hadn’t even thought about so we left well-prepared heading into our big day. And on the wedding day itself, Annie and David were magical: they were invisible at the times when we wanted to be immersed in our special day and yet they were impeccably ushering people about, giving us timely reminders, and, of course, capturing every memorable moment. And if all of this hadn’t already justified the cost to work with them, once we received more than 500 edited photos, we knew without a doubt that we had made the best choice in picking A Tale Ahead. Our pictures are perfect! Thanks to Annie & David, we can relive our perfect day over and over again every time we see our pictures on the wall, on our phones, or in our albums. We couldn’t be more thankful for all their hard work. -

Annie and David were an absolute delight to work with. From our very first meeting with them all the way to even now as we are selecting photos for our wedding album, Annie has been incredibly responsive to our (many) questions and inquiries. It is a quality that we truly appreciate from a vendor as it definitely made our wedding planning process less stressful. We also had a blast with Annie and David on our wedding day, as they just felt like friends that we were hanging out with the entire day. It goes without saying that their work is phenomenal; one thing that we really liked about Annie and David's work is that they are great at working with lighting, and our guests also commented on how beautiful the lighting turned out in all the photos! We also love how they captured so many candid, happy moments not just of us but also of our guests. We'd highly recommend working with Annie and David as your wedding photographers! -

Photos of my dreams!
Annie and David were everything I could have asked for in a wedding photographer team and made my dream wedding photos come true. I highly recommend Annie and David and I would love to work with them again in the future.
During the wedding: They were fast, quick to respond to the event schedule/timeline, professional in their interactions with my family and friends, and captured every single moment of our wedding. They made sure to capture all the events and moments we discussed ahead of time and those that we did not anticipate (like signing our marriage license). They had all the best equipment and lighting ready for daylight, shaded areas, and nighttime. Annie and David know how to manage a crowd, and how to help couples pose, and look best in their photos.
Before the wedding: My wedding was planned and canceled due to COVID and we finally settled on a venue and date for Sept. 2020. Annie and David were flexible during these challenges and accommodated all of the changes in dates and venues.
After the wedding: I know how long post-processing of photos can take, and I was so impressed with how quickly and efficiently they got my photos to me with GORGEOUS post-processing applied. Their stylistic choices with photos (lighting, hues, poses, angles, mood) is what originally drew me to hire them. My photos arrived in an online format so that I could download and share all the photos with friends and family with options to physically print any of them.

Annie and David are amazing people and photographers :) The pandemic changed up so much of our plans, but they were so flexible and were willing to change up what we initially agreed upon to something that made sense for our (much smaller) wedding. David also helped us livestream our wedding on YouTube so that all the 100+ family and friends who couldn't make it could also watch in real-time. They also take the best photos, sometimes when you're not even realizing that you have a photo taken of you which is perfect for people like me who freeze up in front of the camera. They're also great with getting little kids to look at the camera for group photos :) The photo editing is also very professional, and they won't do anything that makes the photo not look like you, but take a lot of care into editing out accidental eyeliner smudges and scratches on a shiny surface so everything looks picture perfect! -

Annie and David did a great job from day one! We met via facetime for our initial consult and they were both so easy to talk to that we knew they would be a good fit to make us feel comfortable on our big day. They were both enthusiastic and willing to work with whatever we needed: distance planning, recommendations for engagement photos, travel to the wedding site, and even include our beloved German Shepard into the photos! I would highly recommend this duo for anyone that wants to capture memorable photos from any event. This talented couple did a phenomenal job of capturing the beauty, ambiance, and feeling of the whole event. -

Annie and David are so talented and incredible that the GROOM is writing this review. Let that sink in for a minute.
Now that the shock has worn off, here are two versions of the review: one for the “executive summary” crowd and the other with quite a bit more detail.
Short version:
My wife and I could not be happier with our decision to work with Annie and David for our recent September wedding in Sonoma CA. Most highly recommended! If you’re looking for experienced, talented, and fun to work with photographers who deliver incredible, natural photos and have a knack for capturing the little moments in between the main story beats of a wedding, then look no further than Annie and David. We could not be more thrilled with our photos or our experience working with them for the 15 months leading up to our wedding, as they are friendly, helpful, professional, and very fast to respond to emails.
Longer version for those detail-oriented folks:
We discovered Annie and David (A Tale Ahead Photography) by combing through local photographer pages on wedding websites. If you’re going through their website, be sure to check out their blog (https://www.ataleahead.com/blog/) for a great collection of their work. It certainly helped us get a better sense of their style and portfolio.
My wife (who has a far better eye for photography, composition, design, etc. than I do) instantly loved their style and ability to convey the feel of the weddings they shot. We wrote to them and almost instantly received a response (Annie is incredibly fast at email, especially at night). We drove over to Pacifica to meet them and chat / see if we felt they would be a good fit for us (and vice versa).
We instantly felt comfortable with Annie and David and loved getting to know them. We felt that working with them would be fun and low stress, and we appreciated that they have complementary styles as photographers, and would be able to capture multiple angles / compositions for key moments at our wedding. Additionally, we appreciated their flexibility in negotiating a package that was right for us. We opted for a custom package that included both Annie and David, an engagement shoot, and a bit of extra time shooting the wedding.
Throughout the months leading up to the big day, Annie was extremely helpful and available by email. She and David offered suggested for engagement shoot locations, weighed in with opinions on where to do the first look photos (based on lighting, time of day, logistics and timeline, etc.), and generally helped us keep the wheels on. They worked seamlessly with our wedding coordinator to make sure the wedding timeline worked for everyone and would allow them to capture key shots that we requested (e.g., sunset photos in the vineyard).
Annie and David are communicative, punctual, and create a relaxing atmosphere on the day of your shoots. I felt very comfortable working with them both, and I believe that comfort translated into very natural looking photos. After shooting the wedding, the process is pretty straightforward. Annie actually sent us a handful of “sneak peak” photos shortly after the wedding. When I say “shortly after the wedding,” I mean literally 5 hours after they left the venue. Annie can be a bit of a night owl, and sent over a half dozen photos at about 2am. It was an incredible surprise to wake up the morning after the wedding and be able to show our family a few of the shots! About 5-6 weeks after the big day, Annie sent us a link to their blog post covering our wedding, which included ~80 photos to whet our appetite (see: https://www.ataleahead.com/2019/10/br-cohn-winery-wedding-glen-ellen/). A week or so later (roughly 7 weeks after the wedding), we got the long-awaited email with the full gallery link to hundreds and hundreds of finished photos.
To summarize, we strongly recommend working with Annie and David! We could not imagine a better experience, and their photography perfectly captured our special day and elevated our memories (and home) with beautiful, lively photos.

Hiring Annie and David as our wedding photographers was easily one of the greatest decisions we ever made. Aside from being incredibly talented, they are two of the most kind and generous people we've ever met.
We had to postpone our 2020 wedding date and they were so understanding and made the process incredibly easy during a very stressful time. Leading up to the wedding, they put up with an incessant amount of annoying questions from me as I struggled to walk through the logistics and timeline of our wedding. Then, a week before our wedding, when the weather forecast turned quite unfavorable, Annie and David were right there to brainstorm ideas with us and reassure us that even with a little rain (or a lot of it), our day (and our photos) would turn out amazing. And they were right.
They were extraordinarily responsive and helpful (I seriously don't know how they do it!). On the day of our wedding, they went above and beyond and transcended their roles of photographers. I'm so grateful for Annie - she was right by my side, keeping me and my dress dry, helping me navigate where to go and what to do. Both Annie and David braved the elements for us, standing outside in the pouring rain and wind for hours. At one point, we're pretty sure David backed all the way into a bush just to get the perfect angle during our first look.
I could go on and on about how amazing they are and all the ways in which they made our wedding day more special. My husband and I both agree that we are so lucky to have had Annie and David as our photographers and we cannot get over how amazing the photographs came out to be. -

I contacted A Tale Ahead to capture our proposal. David was super attentive and worked with me to figure out exactly how to get the best shots. After seeing their amazing work we pretty much knew that we would be contacting them again for our wedding! You will not be disappointed if you choose A Tale Ahead. Annie and David were amazing and we were constantly impressed by their teamwork, knowledge, and professionalism on the day of our wedding. The photos turned out PERFECTLY. Every time we show people our photos we get tons of compliments and our friends who are into photography have said that their work is top notch. Bottom line: Annie and David are pros (the approachable kind), their work is fantastic, and they are fantastic people. I can't rave enough about them--it's to the point where we yell "Ayyyyyy!" whenever they show up in video from the wedding. -

We hired Annie and David after they shot our proposal in San Francisco and they graciously traveled up to the Seattle area (where we live) to shoot our wedding – and boy did they deliver! Not only were both of them extremely thorough and easy to work with long distance to prep for the big day, it was so much fun to have both of them there the day of our wedding, shooting away! Since we’ve shot with them before, we were no strangers to working with them. After making the trip all the way to Seattle, they were flexible to meet at our ‘getting ready’ location on morning of, and then coming later to our venue to shoot the rest of the day until after our sparkler end off (which are some of my favorite photos!) – they made sure they knew what shots or locations meant most to us, including getting some row boat shots which I was dying for - and our photos are just beyond gorgeous and romantic!! They truly captured our day with such beauty! Aside from their talent, they’re incredibly fun and easy to work with; after our wedding I realized how important it was that you are comfortable, you enjoy and you get along with your vendors (mainly photographers) because you’re with them the whole day and their excitement and enthusiasm rubs off on you as well! Annie and David were all of these things and more which made it SO much more enjoyable for us. We had a blast “hanging out” with them the whole day and they really made sure we got everything we wanted out of this day! They kept us calm, moving, and Annie could always fix my train perfectly to get a fantastic shot! We got our entire set of photos back and we are beyond grateful and amazed at how beautiful everything was captured!! We couldn’t be happier! Also, we’re so grateful we had both of them there – they were able to shoot from two different angles, and cover more ground by having two photographers so that we didn’t miss a moment! You won’t regret booking them for any occasion! They're fantastic!!

Ai Sent on 07/05/2018Annie photographed our civil ceremony and wedding portraits at City Hall, and we were absolutely amazed at how the pictures turned out! I’m camera shy, so I was hesitant about even hiring a professional photographer for the wedding. I’m glad we found Annie! She was so friendly and easy to work with, and gave us clear instructions on how to pose. We picked a very busy day at City Hall, but she was polite in asking people to move out of the frame to capture incredible photos. We ended up having a lot of fun in our session. Thank you, Annie!!

Kelly Sent on 10/21/2017When looking for an engagement photos/wedding photographer, we knew we wanted someone who specialized in candid photos and would be able to capture the essence of our beautiful venue in Sonoma County (The Highlands Estate). As soon as we saw Annie and David's website, we were sold and crossed our fingers that they were available for our date which was a year or so out..thankfully they were! We met them in person and it was like talking to old friends. Aside from being beyond talented, they are incredibly professional, easy to get ahold of, and most importantly they love what they do! Their love between each other is so beautiful and they make the most wonderful team! We highly recommend booking them as a team for wedding photos because they are able to work efficiently and they are always on the same page on how the shoots should go. We have only gotten a couple pictures back for a sneak preview but they are so beautiful that people gasp when they see them! Several friends have said they they are the most beautiful photos they have ever seen and we agree! We are so thrilled with their work and would highly recommend them to anyone who places an emphasis on photos capturing the love, joy and beauty of your event.. be it wedding, engagement, family or newborn photos. Annie and David are incredible!!
