Work with Sabine, seriously.

We wanted a very unusual flavor combination for our wedding cake, and we could not find any other baker who could execute it, but we would have chosen to work with A Love For Cakes regardless. Sabine was so patient, explanatory, and conscientious throughout the process. She instinctively understood the style that we were looking for, and we felt completely comfortable trusting her judgment. We immediately understood that she truly cared about us instead of trying to push a sale. The cake that she executed was elegant, beautiful, and so delicious and moist - exactly what we wanted. The strawberry buttercream was unique in that it captured the flavor of real fresh strawberries, and our matcha sponge cake had a perfect flavor. We made our own cake toppers, and Sabine took great care to preserve and present them exactly in accordance with our wishes. Our guests continuously complimented us, and we even ended up ordering extra servings for the sole purpose of taking them home so that we could keep eating it even after the wedding! We also ordered extra servings so that our wedding staff could try it, and they all loved it as well. I would not hesitate to work with Sabine again or to simply order more of our wedding cake!

Beautiful and Delicious

Sabine is definitely a gem. She is pleasant, professional, accommodating; and her cakes taste as delicious as they look! She was able to design my cake to perfection! I initially asked for a three tier cake, but after the taste tasting, I was so torn between which flavors to choose that I ended up getting a four tier cake instead of the three tier. I would most definitely recommend this company anyone looking for beautiful and tasty cakes!

Delicious and beautiful

I contacted Sabine a week before my party hoping that she would be able to make the cake I wanted. She was prompt with her responses which I truly appreciate. I provided her a picture and she was able to accommodate me.
The cake was a big hit. Everyone loved the look and the taste. I would definitely use A Love for Cakes again.

Sabine was such a kind woman! She really works out the small fine details of exactly how I wanted my cake. I trusted her completely and was over the moon the day of my wedding. My cake couldn't have looked or tasted better.

My God. The cakes were beautiful!!!!!!!!!!! We didn't want to cut them. Thank you so much for everything from the beginning. PROFESSIONAL and COURTESY. Whatever questions I had were answered very promptly. I love that they reach out to you for clarification MANY times to ensure what you are asking for. My vision came to life with this company. I called the business maybe 2x and they were very nice, helpful and informative. Lastly the cakes tasted so good. Thank you again. I would definitely use this vendor again.

I had such a wonderful experience with Sabine and her team at A Love for Cakes. After two cake tastings, we came up with what we knew to be the perfect flavors for my 2-tier birthday cake. It came out beautifully, and everyone in the shop was very warm and welcoming. I would definitely purchase another cake here!

My review is really for Birthday cakes...some how the page directs me to review a wedding cake but anyway,
I contacted Sabine a week and a half prior my son's 1st birthday party...On such a short notice Sabine agreed to take my cake order. She worked with me with the cake design and delivered an impeccable cake to my doorstep. The cake was not only designed beautifully but tasted just perfect! We received many compliments on the cake from our guests. I look forward to continue business with Sabine for my son's many more birthdays to come. :)

Sabine totally nailed my wedding cake! I wanted a wonder woman/batman themed wedding cake that also served as a gender reveal because I was 5 months pregnant at the time. I did a tasting just to get an idea (I’m a first-timer all around). I was stuck between the vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and fresh strawberries and the coconut cake with the vanilla buttercream. Sabine suggested to do both favors since I couldn’t decide and with good reason! It was absolutely delicious! I didn’t want a very sweet cake because I have family members who are diabetic and I wanted them to actually have a piece of my wedding cake without having to worry about the sugar content (this is my opinion – not Sabine). Sabine’s cakes are semi-sweet which is perfect all around even for me I must say. The strawberries gave that bit of a kick that I was looking for in the vanilla cake and the coconut definitely hit my taste buds the right way without the vanilla buttercream overpowering it. I chose to do 3 tiers (top: coconut cake, middle and bottom: vanilla cake with strawberries). Sabine was open to do the gender reveal (without additional cost) in any way I wanted, so, I decided to do the bottom tier only. My husband and I chose to use our favorite colors to reveal our 1st child’s gender as personal touch (His: red for boy and mine: purple for girl). I was not sure how Sabine was going to nail either of these colors (she said she will do her best) because I wanted the color to be vibrant but she did it and she reassured me over the phone that I was going to be blown away. She was right! We saw a vibrant red color and it was a spectacular! Sabine’s attention to detail is beyond of what I expected. The wedding cake was also a surprise for my husband (he thought it was a floral themed cake) and she remembered that when he dropped off the envelope of our baby’s gender. The cake was delivered on time and she attached the envelope to the box for confirmation.Thank you Sabine for everything!

This was for my parent's 50th Wedding Anniversary. Luckily, I found Sabine by chance. She took the time to discuss what kind of cake we were looking for and gave me a lot of options for cake and filling flavor combinations. I did not have time to schedule a cake tasting, but I did taste a lemon mousse she had just made and it was delicious. We decided on a 3 tiered cake, and she even suggested in making different flavors for each tier. Our top tier and lower tier were vanilla cake with dulce de leech filling and the middle cake was chocolate with white chocolate mousse and raspberries. We also ordered a dozen cupcakes and a dozen cake pops. She was able to deliver it on the date of the event. And everything was a big hit!

Working with Sabine was a wonderful experience. Her cake flavors are unique and very tasty. For our wedding, we opted for cupcakes with a 6 inch cake for cutting. The cupcake flavors were chocolate cake with white chocolate mousse filling (my favorite) and the 6 inch cake was yellow cake with raspberry mousse filling (my husband's favorite). The guests LOVED the cupcakes. Sabine's rates were very reasonable and they arrived on time as promised. I highly recommend A Love For Cakes for any occasion.

We will be forever grateful for the custom cake we ordered from "A Love for Cakes". It was for our 2 year old son's birthday and it was in the form of Noah's Ark which turned out to be a perfect master piece!!! It made our day extra special as we skimped out on his 1st birthday. The beautifully detailed cake was of such quality and completely enhanced our decoration and atmosphere. All of our guests raved about how beautiful it was and where I found the vendor, etc. I'm not sure about everything else but this art piece will definitely have a lasting memory for us! We made sure to take tons of pictures before devouring it.
We also appreciated the impeccable service from my first contact with Sabine, the baker, to the day of cake delivery. You cannot ask for more professionalism and grace that I am so thankful for as she made everything so easy and worry-free for me - that's a huge deal, THANK YOU!!!!!

Sabine's cakes are AMAZING! We ordered a 4 tier cake with 2-tiers being red-velvet, and the other 2 tiers being lemon. My goodness they were sooo moist and fresh! Not too sweet but just right. Our guests could not stop raving about how great the cake was. I am sooo happy we saved the top layer for our one year. Thank you Sabine for working with us in creating the amazing cake designs.

I was in a pickle! I needed a cake in a week because my mother was getting married. She was going to city hall and didn't make much of a big deal about it but as the date was getting closer she wanted the perfect dress, the perfect bouquet, the perfect shoes, and of course the perfect cake!! Who could blame her?! it was her big day after all! I found A Love For Cakes online and they were one of the MANY vendors I asked to assist me in such short notice. Most vendors didn't reply, said they could not make it in time, or said it would cost extra overtop of super expensive prices because of the short notice. But Sabine was great to work with, she answered right away, she gave me INCREDIBLE pricing and assured me she could make the cake of my mothers dream! (I had a picture) unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to meet Sabine but my boyfriend picked up the cake and said the place smelled like heaven, she was working on other sweets and walking in there he felt like confident the cake was going to be beautiful....then he saw it! A MASTERPIECE!! Better than we even imagined. Wonderful detailing...just gorgeous!!! My mom was blown away, she didn't expect it to be so perfect and when we tasted it...delicious!! This was my first experience purchasing something like this and it was just amazing! Gorgeous and delicious! Sabine was a part of making my moms day that more special! I'm so grateful and pleased with the cake masterpiece from A Love for Cakes.

I ordered my daughters- baptism cake from A Love for Cakes. I had a pic of what I wanted and Sabine was able to replicate it perfectly. The price was reasonable and tasted great.

Sabine (the owner) did a fantastic job on our wedding cake. She took my vision of a snowflake cake and made it a reality. The cake was delicious and looked gorgeous. Our cake tasting was amazing, not to mention delicious. At the tasting, Sabine was very accommodating and had it all nicely set up for us. She is also a very lovely person. Because we loved three different flavors, we wound up having each layer a different flavor. We even ordered cake bites for each table (which was amazing); small individual one-bite cakes. Sabine was always responsive to my emails. The cake was delivered without any problems, and she even emailed me to let me know it was delivered (which makes a bride happy to know all is going smoothly.) We were, also, able to rent a cake stand from her; which helped make our cake stand out even more. Overall we were very happy with our wedding cake and experience with A Love for Cakes.

My Great Gatsby cake was so beautiful, the flavors I chose were delicious. So many of my guests complimented me on the cake and sugar cookies I purchased for our special day. The taste and texture were great.

We planned a dual first birthday party for two little boys. Sabine helped us with only a week prior to the event when we decided we could not make 100 cupcakes by ourselves. She was totally creative, made a beautiful custom cake for our cowboy themed party, and helped us think through options for sharing the cake experience with two babies. Delivery at the event space was on time and the cake was fantastic. The price was reasonable too. I highly recommend A Love for Cakes.

Our experience with A Love for Cakes was wonderful. Sabine was so easy to work with and was fine when we had to change our cake concept only a few weeks before the wedding. Also, the cake was delicious, which doesn't seem to happen all that often. And it's still delicious a week later! Just a great experience.

Our cake and dessert bar was amazing, it was everything I envisioned and more. The flavors were spectacular, and the mini desserts at the dessert bar were a huge hit! My cake and mini desserts were customized to fit my fall farm theme, everything from the flavors to the design fit perfectly. So happy :)

So the cake wasn't for a wedding but for my step daughter's Sweet 16. I found her shop during my daily commute back home from work. After reading wonderful reviews we decided to give her a try. Sabine was super sweet, accommodating and professional. Quick to reply and helpful in designing cake. We were able to coordinate and communicate via telephone, E-mail and in person. Her price is reasonable but most importantly the cake was beautiful and delicious. Everybody complimented the design and taste. Most people at my table couldn't help but to ask for seconds :0) I am currently working with Sabine for my other daughter's Sweet 16 birthday cake which will be Great Gatsby theme cake. We are very excited to see and can't wait to see end result.

I found "A Love For Cakes" while doing a google search for a baker in Queens, for my twins 1st birthday cake, and "smash cakes" (mini individual cakes for each baby to eat on their own). I saw on weddingwire.com that the bakery received a 5 star rating from 23 reviewers, so I thought it would be worth a shot to see what they had to offer. I emailed Sabine, the owner and baker, with the request for a brightly colored circus-themed birthday cake, and matching "smash cakes". She quickly responded asking for more details about I needed. I emailed her pics of what I liked for inspiration. She quickly responded with a reasonable price quote. Sabine graciously gave us a cake tasting at her storefront in Maspeth. She is very welcoming and pleasant. Her cakes were moist, fresh, and delicious. We decided on chocolate cake with a raspberry cream mousse. After tasting Sabine's creations, and seeing that she also made cookie favors, cupcakes, and cake pops, we added lion and elephant shaped cookie favors, and almond cake pops that matched our theme, to our order. All of our guests complimented not just the artistry on the outside of Sabine's creations, but the quality and deliciousness on the inside as well. My husband's aunt commented, "Often, when a cake is gorgeous on the outside, it's not that good on the inside, but this was fantastic!" Everyone couldn't stop raving about the taste of the almond cake pops. The cookies were also a big hit as well! The "smash" cakes made great 1st birthday photos. My boys loved them! My experience with "A Love For Cakes" was so much so an excellent one, that I just placed another order for my husband's birthday cake. Highly recommended!

Sabine is a wonderful baker and very accommodating. Like most people in their thirties, I've attended my share of weddings and had my fill of terrible cakes. Since my husband and I were having a small wedding, we particularly wanted the cake to be good. Contacting Sabine via wedding wire, she set up our appointment and prepared a cake tasting. We went with a vanilla butter cake infused with lemon and raspberry mouse filling. Besides saying I Do, the cake was one of my favorite parts.

Sabine is just absolutely amazing! I'm so happy that we found her on weddingwire. As soon as I emailed her and told her my ideas, she immediately responded. She was very mindful of our budget which we really appreciated. Sabine made us the most delicious 3 tier Coconut/ Lemon-curd filled "Naked" wedding Cake with coconut scented buttercream and fresh berry decor. It was a total hit at the reception! I have to admit, I was very nervous about it coming out the way I envisioned it. But Sabine did an amazing job, we couldn't be happier with how it looked and how it tasted! Also, I have to mention that she was very accommodating and patient throughout the entire process. After our initial cake tasting, we decided to reach out to her for an additional tasting because we were unsure about our initial choice. Sabine was totally understanding and at an additional cost she allowed us to choose from 4 new flavors, and that's when we picked our final one. She's GREAT!

I found A Love For Cakes from online reviews and I must say I am so thrilled that I listened to the reviews and checked it out for my bridal shower cake! I sent an email and received a reply right away! Sabine was very professional and accommodating! She offered a free cake testing... It was so hard to decide which flavors to choose that I had 3 different flavors for each tier. The chocolate with raspberry mousse was so delicious!! And of course the chocolate with chocolate mousse and vanilla with chocolate mousse were superb!! The cake was absolutely beautiful!!!! So elegant and one of a kind!! I definitely recommend and will absolutely be a returning customer! Thank you Sabine!

Sabine designed a beach themed cake for my husband's Retirement Party and it was fabulous! The attention to personal detail that I requested was amazing. The quality was top notch and transporting it was so simple. Best of all, the cake was as delicious as it was beautiful! It was the hit of the party and everyone loved it! These are the best desserts I've ever had, EVER. Sabine is just a genius. We couldn't pick a cake flavor, they were all so good, so we had multiple small cakes in various flavors. And we also had three other petit fours to round out our dessert table. I highly, highly recommend Sabine and A Love for Cakes to everyone getting married in the New York area. So after the beautiful and scrumptious cake Sabine made for my Son's first birthday we have not stopped ordering her cakes. To date we have ordered three cakes (all in less than a month). All three have been perfectly designed and made with a secret ingredient that I'm assuming must be "love" because at all three of my events everyone can not stop complimenting how rare it is to find a beautiful cake that taste soo delicious! I'd like to thank you for the third cake, because it was an AWESOME surprise! Since I wouldn't stop raving about how much I loved Sabine's cake, my husband contacted Sabine himself to have her design a cake for me for my birthday. Lets just say that when the waitress brought my cake out (a fondant covered red velvet cake designed & sculpted as a Chanel bag), the entire restaurant was in awe of the perfection. The design was so flawless that people kept coming over to get a closer look because they couldn't believe it was a real cake. Your work is simply extraordinary! Thank you again!!! and again!

Although, this is not a wedding review, lets just say that in two more years when my husband and I renew our vows we know EXACTLY who will be making our cake :)

I can not thank Sabine enough for the beautiful and delicious cake she made for my son's Circus themed first birthday. I found her on google only a week before the party, called and left a voicemail. Within an hour Sabine had returned my call, and asked that I send her any ideas I had on how I wanted my cake designed. The next morning I sent an email with pictures and boom shortly after I had a proposal that included a qoute and was pending a meeting to confirm the details. Two days later we met with Sabine in her bakery. It was pretty hard to pick with cake and filling as everything was soooo good. Ultimately we choose the chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream filling for one tier and blue velvet cake with cream cheese frosting for the bigger tier. Let me just say I RARELY ever give reviews, as honestly nothing really wows me. But for the first time EVER in my all my years of throwing and planning parties ALL the cake was gone! My guests could not stop raving about the how pretty it looked and how amazing the cake tasted. Thank you soo much for all your help and patience ( I was and hour and a half late picking up my cake) and she still was gracious and even brought the cake to my car since I had my daughter with me. Can't wait until next week to order a cake for my daughter's birthday! I'm soo excited to get to eat more cake.

It's been a while since this event, but ever since then, I think of Sabine as a terrific baker and that she knows how to run her business. I first tasted her cake at another birthday party earlier in 2008, and I got her information from the hosts.

The cake was for my boyfriend's birthday, and to respect requests from his family members, we decided to ask Sabine to make certain modifications with the ingredients. She was accommodating and made a very good cake: a petite round eight-inch cake to feed ten people, decorated with cow spots made of fondant, as requested. From start (inquiry) to finish (picking up and paying for the cake), communication with Sabine was by phone and e-mail. It was very efficient and the delays that came up were natural, since Sabine was also working with other events at the time of my initial inquiry.

We will certainly turn to this vendor again in the future, when we find ourselves back in her company's local area.

I organized an event for engaged couples in NYC, and A Love for Cakes provided all the dessert. I work in the wedding industry, so I taste wedding dessert pretty much every day. Sabine provided cakes and custom made cookies for several of our community events and fundraisers. All her products are super fresh, taste amazing and are works of art at the same time.

Her theme cakes are also great for the "adult palate", as they are not as over-sweet as some store-bought cakes sometimes are.

The German cakes and "Torten" taste exactly as home!

Sabine was great to work with for our wedding. My husband and I didn't want a traditional wedding cake. We wanted various flavors and all different size cakes. During our tasting, it was difficult to narrow it down to four flavors because each one was so delicious! Sabine was able to use images that we sent to her from Pinterest to create our dream cakes. I was looking for a tennis-themed cake for a birthday party and am so thankful I found Sabine and her bakery, A Love for Cakes! Sabine was extremely pleasant, efficient and professional. I sent her various photos of what I had in mind and she ultimately replicated the cake that I settled on (shape of a tennis racket with a tennis ball on the side). Her prices are very reasonable as is her delivery fee! The entire process was seamless and the result was absolutely incredible! We ordered our wedding cake from A Love For Cakes. Sabine was very attentive and helpful in her suggestions when we first met with her to discuss our order. I really appreciated the quality of her work, especially the attention to detail that she paid with regards to a specific decorative feature I had specially requested to be added to the cake. We ordered a two tier cake; one was a lemon poppyseed cake with white ganache filling and cream cheese frosting and the other was a chocolate sponge with chocolate ganache filling and chocolate buttercream frosting. Both of the cakes were moist and flavorful and tasted great. I also appreciated that the sugar paste was not too thick, and therefore not cloyingly sweet. I would happily return to Sabine’s A Love For Cakes for any future cake orders.

the cake was very delicate. It was a perfect desert after dinner. Not to sweet, moist, and simply delicate. Sabine was very helpful and flexible in what I wanted exactly.

Sabine was quite accommodating with all the changes, especially since all of this happened during the blizzard and all our arrangements were changed last minute.
