The Village Baker

The Village Baker serves handmade artisanal bread, pastries, and a robust variety of baked goods made with high-quality, locally sourced ingredients in our local Northeast Pennsylvania storefront. We strive to focus on our customer's satisfaction and offer a quaint cafe designed "living-room" style and appointed with plush furniture to enjoy your purchases, meet with others, work away from home or the office and take advantage of free WiFi. We also focus on supporting our community through consignment items offered from local artists.

BUT, YOU ARE HERE FOR WEDDING CAKES! Creating a perfect wedding experience to compliment your special day is just one of Chef David Knight's culinary talents. Chef David Knight has been a chef for over 35 years. He has an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts and a Certificate in Baking and Pastries. He has been a culinary educator and full-time instructor for over 10 years and The Village Baker is the second European influenced bakery he has owned after closing The Village Patisserie in Colorado so he could move his family back to the East Coast where he grew up.

We would be delighted to be able to create the perfect cake for your wedding! If you can dream it, Chef Knight can make it. Whether you are having an intimate or large event, we can customize your cake to fit your order.

We offer traditional or contemporary cake decor using advanced piping methods such as quilt, stucco, stacked royal icing and ruffle. Any flavor combination is possible -- you’re only limited to your imagination. We start with vanilla buttersponge cake or chocolate ganache cake as a base. Our most popular choices are champagne, chamomile, lavender and honey almond. We can do savory blends such as adding rosemary to the chocolate cake or fresh basil to the vanilla buttersponge. Our icing is a true Swiss buttercream that can be flavored or complimented with fruit flavors. Gluten free options available.

The most popular options that our customers have to choose from are tiered cakes, each level with different flavor combinations, groom's cakes, sheet cakes and dessert boards.

Chef Knight does not believe in saving the top tier of the wedding cake in a freezer. We offer a *FREE* 6" 1st Anniversary cake of your flavor choice.

We have a variety of stands and wood coins available for use in the presentation and cake toppers and serving sets for sale as well. Because all of our cakes are custom designs from the filling and cake flavor to the decorations, we can generally make adjustments to fit any budget.

We offer complimentary custom tasting for the couple after confirming your date is available. Additional guests are welcome to join for $10 per person. Our unique tasting arrangement offers you a wide selection of filling, cake and icing combinations. Chef Knight will guide you in creating your perfect combination of flavors - truly in the spirit of his motto "You're only limited to your imagination!"
