The University Club is a Greek Revival style home built in 1834 by James H. Dearing. After a succession of owners and a brief stint as the Governor's Mansion by Governor Arthur Pendleton Bagby, The University of Alabama purchased the home in 1946 after then president, Raymond Paty convinced Mr. and Mrs. H.D. Warner to aid in the acquistion to create a social hub for university faculty and staff.

Today, the University Club is a private dining and special events facility that serves the university community and surrounding Tuscaloosa area.

This is an historic mansion with many rooms. They provided floor plans and suggestions on crowd-flow, conversation areas, food areas and ideas for the photo booth and DJ. The selection of menu items was extensive and gave a wide range of taste choices. One guest told us later, "I'm having that potato bar at my wedding!!" The food was laid out beautifully and in such a way around the room that there was no congestion as people tried to get food. The staff was great and really kept the place tidy while we partied. I've been to receptions where there is a huge congestion problem in certain areas and the empty plates and glasses seem to pile up. Because of the way the staff hustled and the way the layout was, there was no congestion, no waiting, and the house never had a messy look to it.

The University Club staff was amazing. True professionalism and hospitality. Perfect for a southern wedding. Guest raved about the dinner and almond ball! Would highly recommend the U Club to anyone.

I loved having the wedding and reception at the University Club. We had the ceremony out front on the lawn and the reception inside. The catering was delicious...even though we ate it out of to-go boxes that were made for us. I love the club.
