My husband and I had both our wedding ceremony and reception at Tates Creek Ballroom, rented by Lexington KY Parks & Recreation, and I couldn't be happier with our choice! The ballroom is just lovely and is perfect as a wedding venue, with beautiful wood flooring, an entire wall of mirrors, a built-in bar area, and a spacious room available to get ready in. We wanted to have the ceremony and reception at one place for the convenience of our guests, and the ballroom was perfect - plenty of room for our ~60 guests and could have easily accommodated double that. The location is also well suited to those who are self-catering or have a specific caterer in mind, as there is no required caterer to use, and there is a kitchen area with several tables, a large sink, two refrigerators, and an ice machine available, as well as an area off of the ballroom that is perfect for setting up a buffet. Monica, who manages this location and who was present at both the rehearsal / set-up and during the wedding and reception, was just SO friendly and easy to work with. She was very flexible with the decorations she allowed us to have (basically, as long as we didn't damage the ceiling, walls or floors we could do it), had all the tables and chairs we had requested set up exactly how we wanted them when we arrived, showed us a convenient place to keep all our extra boxes for clean-up after the wedding, got us an extra table at the last minute, found a ladder for us to use to hang decorations, chatted with us about our wedding planning, and was overall a joy to work with. Also, after the wedding we took some pictures out on the adjacent golf course, and no one appeared to have any problem with it at all - our photographer was able to get some really great shots there. For what it is, the room is good. It is a big open space where people can move around and mingle. However, this room has no personality. It is your typical room. If you are serving any type of alcoholic beverage here, you will need to obtain a temporary liquor license. The parks and rec people do tell you how to do that so no worries. Plus a lot of caterers know the place. It also has a kitchen and a place for a bar set-up.
