About
Sperry Tents Southeast Values:
What makes Sperry Tents Southeast different from other tent companies is that we prioritize what matters most, you, the customer. We guarantee this by providing our customers with the best products, for example, Sperry Tents (the only authentic sailcloth tent on the market), original handcrafted hardwood flooring and stages, finer details, and customer experience instead of volume. This means we take on a limited number of jobs to ensure this. Other companies focus mainly on volume, taking on 15 events per week, letting jobs slip through the cracks. You will work with multiple people throughout the process, and the sales rep is not on the job causing unnecessary confusion and wrongdoings. Our Sales Reps will be with you through the entire process, including the set-up and take-down of your job; nothing is left unfinished or without care!
We look forward to speaking with you and creating your dream Wedding!
Sperry Tents History:
Sperry Tents is an authentic family-owned company. It began with Steve Sperry, a skilled sailmaker who began his career in the 1960s working at Hood Sailmakers under the famous Ted Hood. In the mid-1970s, Steve established Sperry Sails in Marion, Massachusetts, where he and one employee made sails and did custom canvas work for local sailors. Over the years that followed, Sperry Sails’ much-loved, colorful sun logo was often seen up and down the coast of New England, and the Sperry Sails brand became known and respected among sailors.
One weekend, Steve was going to a party and decided to try making a party tent. He had everything he required to hand: sailcloth, sewing machines, grommets, and nautical lines. He even created the wooden support poles at his sawmill, where he milled the lumber to build his house. For an extra flourish, he sewed in a huge version of the Sperry Sails logo, put it in his truck, and went, unaware that he was starting a revolution in the world of event tents.
From that day on, the “Sperry” tent became increasingly popular, with many tents made by the sailmakers at Sperry Sails and rented to locals throughout southeastern New England. In the beginning, Steve and his crew invented a variety of unique and creative designs, including a ribbon, dragon, landscapes, and the signature navy sailcloth adorned with white stars (our “Blue Star” tent is still widely available today) – all of which made the tents stand out even more from the traditional striped canvas and white vinyl tents of that time.
The Sperry Tents Story In 1996, Steve’s sons, Tim and Matt Sperry, returned from circumnavigating the globe on a 41-foot sailboat with three other friends. Tim joined his father’s company and established Sperry Tents as a separate rental entity. Meanwhile, Matt remained on the Sperry Sails side, working on sails and tents and directing and enhancing the family’s signature fabric designs.
Tim Sperry is still president of Sperry Tents and leads the original office, Sperry Tents Marion. Meanwhile, Matt took over from his father as Sperry Sails president. He launched a sister company Sperry Fabric Architecture, which manufactures every Sperry Tent and custom fabric structures for commercial venues and private homes.

Hi everyone! My name is Andrew McCoy, and I am the proud owner of the brand-new Sperry Tents Southeast.
Sperry Tents is a family-owned company through and through. It began with Steve Sperry, a talented sailmaker in 1979, heading to a party and decided to try his hand at making a party tent. He had everything he needed on hand: sailcloth, sewing machines, grommets, and nautical lines. He even crafted the wooden support poles at his own personal sawmill, where he also milled the lumber to build his house.
Fast-forward to 1996, when Steve's sons, Tim and Matt Sperry, returned from circumnavigating the globe on a 41-foot sailboat with three other friends. Tim joined his father's company and established Sperry Tents as a separate rental entity. At the same time, Matt stayed on the Sperry Sails side, working on sails and tents and directing and enhancing the family's signature fabric designs.
In 2014 I started in the event industry working for Tim and Matt Sperry out of the Mystic, Connecticut branch. I was introduced to Sperry Tents during my final year at the University of Rhode Island by two complete strangers, Ryan and Warren Gross, who was renting an apartment from my parents at the time. I saw the passion and hard work that they were putting in week after week, creating final products that amazed me. The craftsmanship, elegance, and natural glow the Sperry Tents brought, got me hooked. At that point, I decided I wanted to join the family-owned company.
Ryan, Warren, and I worked together for three years, dreaming of opening up our branches of Sperry Tents. We started our journey with Sperry Tents working as crew members hand sanding and staining the beautiful wood poles from Steve Sperry's sawmill, assembling tents in the sun, rain, and cold wind, loving every minute of it. We worked our way up the ranks; Ryan and Warren moved on to open the very successful Sperry Tents Colorado, and I was to follow suit.
In 2018 I called my fiance, Hannah, and told her my plan to open Sperry Tents Southeast. So we packed up our tiny apartment, got our dog Dodger in the car, and drove to South Carolina to start the rest of our lives. I knew my fiance thought I was crazy when I asked her to move her whole life while she was in the middle of obtaining her doctorate in physical therapy, but she did not hesitate to jump on board. Much like the original Sperry Tents, we focus on family values. Hannah and I sat down and had many conversations about how we wanted to run the business, and one thing we always agreed on was making customers feel like a part of our family. Sperry Tents are a part of significant life moments, such as weddings and graduations, to name a few, and being a part of the client's big day, start to finish, makes it all worth it.
Today, Sperry Tents Southeast has resided on the beautiful Hilton Head Island, SC servicing South Carolina, Georgia, north Florida, and surrounding states. I am ready to dive in head first to provide beautiful sailcloth tents, arches, and custom fabric structures for venues, party planners, and other individuals looking to plan outdoor tented events.
